Hop onboard at Abersoch Boat Trips, Our 9m Humber Rib seats up to 12 Passengers. Sit back, relax and enjoy an amazing sightseeing trip along Abersoch bay, St Tudwals Islands and Porth Ceiriad.

On Arrival please head over to Abersoch Land & Sea to get your lifejacket, lifejackets are mandatory and provided. You will then head down towards the beach opposite to board the boat.

Keep your eyes open for any of our regular dolphin visitors!

We’ll try our best to keep you nice and dry whilst on the boat but please do dress accordingly for both the weather and the boat. It’s always cooler when underway on the boat so we do recommend wearing some warm clothes, a waterproof layer and some sensible shoes. Sunglasses are also a good idea!

Please remember that Abersoch Boat Trips is a physical activity, if you have any concerns please do get in touch for guidance and advice. We do strongly advise against participating in the trip if you are pregnant or have any back problems as it can get quite bumpy! Please do consult your doctor or midwife before booking a trip.

Fun Sea Fishing in Wales for the Whole Family

These 2 and 3 hour trips are ideal for the absolute beginner and suitable for the whole family, with a view of Puffin Island and mackerel for tea! Our helpful crew will be at hand to help you throughout the trip. Free rod hire on all trips!

What could I catch?

Whiting and mackerel are the main species caught on 2 and 3 hour trips, with herring during their season and a chance of dogfish, gurnard and pollock depending on tides.

Whiting: All year

Mackerel: June to October

Herring: November to June

Rules: All trips depart from Beaumaris Pier and you will need to collect your boarding cards at least 20 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. Failure to be at the right place in time will result in you missing the boat and your seats being resold.

All trips are weather permitting, details of how to confirm your trip are included in your booking confirmation email. We attempt to contact all passengers to advise them of cancellation or significant changes at the earliest opportunity but this cannot always be guaranteed, especially in the event of multiple cancellations. The easiest way to let you know of any changes is by text so make sure you opt in for text message updates.

Top 10 things to do in Abersoch

The stylish seaside village of Abersoch has been a popular spot for holidaymakers for generations. 

This little slice of heaven on the Llyn Peninsula often feels like you’re abroad. Abersoch has a wonderful, sunny microclimate and you’ll often find the weather here is much nicer than the rest of the UK! You’ve also got those gorgeous golden beaches, beautiful seas and incredible views across to the Snowdonia mountains. There are so many things to do in Abersoch to keep you busy all year around, whether you want action and adventure or stylish relaxation! 

Unsurprisingly, most of the activities in Abersoch revolve around the great outdoors. Make the most of the stunning blue flag beaches and those pristine seas with activities like surfing, bodyboarding, paddle boarding and boating. Walking and hiking are also popular things to do in Abersoch and you’ll have easy access to the Welsh Coastal Path where the most beautiful walks in the country await.

Abersoch is traditionally a fishing village so make the most of the abundance of fresh seafood available. You may choose to visit one of the fantastic local seafood restaurants or pick up your own from the seafood van and cook it at your holiday cottage.

Here are some of our favourite things to do in Abersoch.

Go to the beach

Of course, at the top of the list is a trip to the beach which is the main attraction and one of the very best things to do in Abersoch.

There are three beaches to choose from. Abersoch Main Beach is the biggest and is the one you’ve probably seen in photographs with the colourful beach huts. There’s a large Pay & Display car park located near Abersoch Golf Club. You’ll find basic toilets and outdoor showers as well as a great little cafe on the beach. To the left of the slip is a dog-free area and it’s arguably the nicest yet busiest area of the beach.

If you walk to the right along Abersoch Beach you’ll come to Machroes Beach where you’ll find Mickey’s Boat Yard and The Little Tea Rooms cafe. This is a quieter, dog-friendly area and there’s a grassy area with picnic benches near the toilets. The car park here is small so I highly recommend arriving early if you plan to drive.

The third beach is Abersoch Harbour Beach where you can watch the tractors pulling the boats in and out of the sea. We like to grab coffees, cakes and ice creams from Two Islands cafe and walk down to the benches overlooking Harbour Beach. If the tide is out, the kids can run wild and this is also a great place for crabbing!

Dine at the incredible restaurants

Abersoch is home to some of the best bars and restaurants in all of Gwyndd so you have to sample the local cuisine! Whether you’ll be having fresh seafood at The Potted Lobster , Mexican street food at Manana , champagne at The Cove at The Yacht Club, stonebaked pizza at Crust , Brunch at Kin & Co or sandwiches at The Little Tea Rooms , it will always be a meal to remember.

During busy times you will need to book ahead for most restaurants, sometimes more than a week in advance so get your bookings in quickly!

Plas Yn Rhiw

Plas Yn Rhiw is a National Trust Manor house with the prettiest gardens and views across the Llyn Peninsula. You can visit the rooms within the house which were restored in the 1930s and many are said to be haunted. The estate is made up of 400 acres and any gardeners out there will love a wander around Plas Yn Rhiw Garden. Walk between the flowering shrubs, ornamental gardens, formal box hedges, woodland and wildflower meadows as well as a cottage-style vegetable garden.

There is also a charming tea room where you can have a traditional Welsh Cream Tea.

Note that Plas Yn Rhiw closes for the winter so it’s best to double check the opening hours before visiting.

Go paddle boarding or surfing

If you’re lucky with the weather you’ll find some great surf spots around Abersoch. The swells aren’t always reliable but when the weather reports are good you’ll find plenty of surfers lining the shore! Porth Neigwl , or ‘Hells Mouth’ as it’s often referred to, is a popular spot for surfing.

If you’d prefer a more gentle activity in Abersoch then try paddle boarding. You can paddle board from any of the beaches in Abersoch and there are plenty of shops around the village to hire a board and equipment. Check the tide timetables before you head out. If the tide is out you’ll have a very long walk across the beach to the shore so wait for the tide to come in! I like an early morning paddle when the water is calm as there’s a good chance you’ll spot dolphins!

Abersoch Golf Club is ranked as the 16th best course in Wales by Golf World magazine. It is open to the public who are welcome to join the members at this friendly 18-hole course. The course takes you over natural sand dunes with views across the beach and over to those beautiful Snowdonia mountains. 

The Clubhouse will be waiting after you round and this is actually a lovely place for an alfresco lunch, whether or not you’ve been playing golf!

Walk from Abersoch to Pwllheli

There are lots of lovely little walks around Abersoch but if you’re looking for a longer walk to fill your day then you can’t go wrong with the 13km walk from Abersoch to Pwllheli. 

This walk will treat you to some of the best views in Abersoch before making your way to a famous local landmark, the Tin Man. This sculpture is 132m high and the views up here are stunning. Stop at the beach cafe in Llanbedrog before arriving in Pwllheli. 

Enjoy the bustling town of Pwllheli before jumping on the local bus or into a taxi and heading back to Abersoch. You’ll find more details about this walk on Walk the Wales Coast Path. 

Go bodyboarding at Porth Ceiriad

Porth Ceiriad is a National Trust beach with a huge stretch of golden sand. It’s a great place for dog walking, kite flying, exercising, surfing and bodyboarding. The surf isn’t always reliable but bodyboarding is almost always guaranteed.

This family-friendly activity is one of my favourite things to do in Abersoch as the whole family can have a go. Wetsuits and booties are highly recommended, as well as a flask of tea waiting for you when you get out of the sea!

Visit Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw

Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw is a new cafe development and art centre. It is in Llanbedrog so it’s about 3 miles from Abersoch but it’s so beautiful it had to make the list! 

This incredible mansion house was built in 1857 and, after falling into disrepair, was bought by an artist in 1979. The artist and her husband saved the mansion and it was later taken over by a charitable trust.

Plas Glyn-y-Weddw now attracts over 140,000 visitors each year who come to enjoy art exhibitions, theatre productions, the gardens and woodland and the lovely cafe with lots of outdoor seating.

The rear wing of this impressive building has been lovingly converted into self-catering accommodation which you can see here .

Abersoch has fishing on the beach and the harbour.

The beach is mainly sand with some shingle.

The harbour is clean and sandy with a channel, formed by the River Soch, running through it.

Fish caught include flounders, rays, whiting, mullet, dogfish, bass, dabs, mackerel.

Car parking is available at both ends of the beach and is signposted from the village centre.

The harbour is also signposted with some parking available.

Day out: Abersoch, Llŷn Peninsula, Gwynedd

The Llŷn Peninsula is one of the best places in the UK for spotting dolphins. It’s also home to endearing fishing villages, not least Abersoch with its sandy shores and river-fed harbour

Abersoch sits in a sheltered spot on the south side of the Llŷn Peninsula, a slender finger of land reaching out into the Irish Sea at the north-western tip of Wales.

Like many other settlements looking out on to the vast blueness of Cardigan Bay, the village once relied heavily on fishing for its income, with herrings a particularly lucrative catch. Small-scale fishermen still operate out of the harbour, mostly bringing in lobsters and crabs, and you can book fishing trips with local boat operators.

A wander around the village is a slow affair, with visitors repeatedly being lured from their explorations by the many bars and cafés lining the street leading down to the harbour. Once you reach the point where the river, the Afon Soch, opens out into the sea, you’ll need to stop again, this time to take in the jagged skyline along the eastern horizon: the mountains of Snowdonia.

Things to do in Abersoch

Beyond the small harbour beach is a longer, more popular stretch of sand, backed by dunes and home to a line of colourful beach huts. One sold for a record £153,000 in 2016, despite being in need of some TLC. Grab yourself an ice cream and sit awhile here, watching the paddleboarders and windsurfers out on the water. You might even be lucky enough to spot a bottlenose dolphin , since Cardigan Bay is home to one of Britain’s largest populations.

For something more energetic, take to the Wales Coast Path. Following it south from Abersoch initially, you pass over the top of rugged cliffs and across open heath where crow-like choughs, their red bills and matching legs conspicuous, swoop and dive exuberantly. From the four-mile surfers’ beach at Hell’s Mouth, leave the coast and complete a 10.5-mile circuit by walking quiet lanes and farm paths back to Abersoch.

Fishing at Abersoch

I am taking the family for a week to Abersoch next week from 17/2.Any advice please for sea fishing which does not involve bait digging and long trips?Any advice be very welcome.

Going back 30 years there used to be a good boatman there. Used to specialise in tope fishing, got bitten one day and had to have 30 -odd stitches in his arm. Best bait seemed to be razorfish then or squid as a second best. Big skate and monsters were believed to be around Bardsey sound if you can get that far up. Millions of jellyfish too. That bay is a natural trap for them, and leatherback turtles.  

BAZ (Angel of the North)

They used to do 'short' boat fishing trips at one time, you will have to ask around when you get there, or look in the sea fishing colummns of the angling mags. Penohmn Point not sure of the spelling, or Black point as some people call it might be worth a go. But be carefull as the rocks are very slippy there. I would suggest one of the charter boat trips. They were insured for 12 anglers. But usually there would be the odd couple of spaces vacant. Ask at the harbours.  

Sorry, Penohm Point (Black Point) is on Anglesey. Try the charter boats.

If you walk to the right of the small jetty, there are, or used to be some lug beds at low tide, if you can get a boat out to the muddy hollow take it, there are some big fish there. The tope fishing is good, and there are some very good ray not far offshore. Good luck, the fishing should be OK.  

Sun June 23 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a not too bad of a day of fishing on the Viking Starship. We faced some difficulty with conditions today that seemed to throw the bite off a bit, each drop would start off strong for the first few minutes until it dropped out and we repeated this for a few drifts catching mixed sizes of Porgies. After a bit of fishing this area we went offshore to one of the wrecks and it was loaded with SeaBass. Opening day prevailed and in between picking through some smaller stuff a lot of anglers found their limit on keeper sized SeaBass. To end the trip we went to one of our usual spots and finished off with a few more SeaBass and some large and jumbo Porgies. The Porgy pool winner went to Frank Ortiz from Madison, NJ with a 3 lb Porgy. The SeaBass pool winner went to Paul from Englewood, NJ with a 4 1/2 lb SeaBass. We WILL be sailing again tomorrow (Monday, June 24th) at 5am for our Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and SEABASS. The ticket office will be open at 4am.

any tips for getting off at Abersoch?

Next week , weather permitting I will hopefully get a float "somewhere in North Wales " . Fancy a bit o' Breaming , Abersoch may be the spot . Anyone confirm or deny ? Also any tips for getting a launch with a tractor or whatever - any good/bad experiences to relate ? Was also considering Puffin Island for some wrassing after reading a recent post on here , looks a bit shallow on the east side , anyone know if this be the case , or what state of tide to aim for ? Thanx guys, in anticipation. Tho' the weather ' ll mebbeez stuff it all up. FB-D.:boat:  

I would advise you not launch at Abersoch this time of year, the main beach gets so packed out the they lock the gates and the car park gates.it is very difficult to get your boat out of the water as the sand is very soft, we used to go there for many years and found it nothing but a headache. now we launch at Pwllheli it only costs £20 and there is plenty of bream around that area as jon law has said. its an easy slipway with no sand, hope this info helps.  

Thanx guys !! I had sort of decided after looking at charts that Pwhelli might be the best bet . I did pay a visit to the slip there a couple of years ago , and now with a good lot of practice at launching with the car , reversing the trailer etc , even launching single-handed , it should be fine . It is nice to have the advice from youse guys to give me a bit more confidence. I also visited Abersoch on the same trip , peak summer it were , and boy are you right about it being busy . I did see 2 boats launching from the beach , and the recovery with ropes taught me a little more ..... if you can find a nice solid slip, do it ! I remember loads of boats being tractored up the local roads , like Piccadilly Circus it was ! The beach was full of speedboats and jetskis . Will be out tomorrow (Tuesday) from New Brighton , I have a pal there who stored my boat for me when my storage went tits-up after the guy took everyones rent and disappeared up his own arse with it -thievin' scrote . Got me out of a right pickle , so I'll be jus' cruisin' on the Mersey with him , maybe out the channel a ways if time and weather permit to see if there be any fishing going on . Will give Pwhelli a go later in the week . Typical innit tho'?- weather forecaster on the box sez next week warming up good-style . Me back at work , WAH! £35,000 price tag for boat parking spot in Welsh seaside village

A parking space for boats or cars in a Gwynedd seaside village is being sold for an eye-watering £35,000. The price reflects the popularity of Abersoch and the wider Llŷn Peninsula with boating and watersports enthusiasts.

The tarmacked plot measures around 6m x 5m (19.7ft x 16.4ft), equating to roughly £4.7m per acre. It’s available near Abersoch Land & Sea, a boatyard that’s been at the centre of the area’s boating culture since the 1970s. The space is said to be "ideal for boat/watercraft storage or vehicular parking".

The former fishing village has long attracted the smart set lured by sand, scenery and sailing. Property prices have shot up as demand exceeds supply and Abersoch’s famous beach huts have followed suit – last year an 8m x 3m hut went on the market for £250,000 .

Anyone eyeing up the parking spot for their 4x4s, Titan yachts or Bayliner power boats, should be aware of the restrictions. Abersoch-based Elvins Estate Agents, which is handling the sale, said: “The Title deeds state that no building is permitted on the land and no vehicles, caravans or boats on trailers are to be visible above the neighbouring fence and hedges.”

As well as high-end shopping and a thriving bistro scene, a key attraction for residents and visitors is the village’s pretty harbour, which offers easy access to easy tides, sandy beaches and some of the best sailing waters in the UK. Abersoch has long been a noted dinghy sailing centre and this year’s raft of summer regattas will hold special significance.

South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club is currently celebrating its centenary anniversary, having been established in 1924. Among the regattas scheduled is the British Dragon Association National Championship on July 7-11 featuring 25 boats from Britain, Ireland, Portugal and Japan. Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated event will be the 52nd Abersoch Dinghy Week, from July 21-26. With races starting just a few hundred yards from the beach, it’s a spectacular event both for sailors and spectators.
