AJP Tour In Numbers: Check Out The Achievements From Season 2022-2023

After an extraordinary Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, with over seven thousand athletes competing in the capital of the UAE, the season that began last year finally came to a close. From 2022 to 2023, the AJP made Jiu-Jitsu a highlight around the globe, reaching six continents and historical milestones with its events.

During the last season, the organization welcomed over 123 thousand athletes in its tournaments, which in turn took place in 115 cities across 65 different countries. Fighting for those precious ranking points, competitors left their home countries and broke new ground with AJP, totalizing over 160 nationalities present in our events, proving once and for all how global Jiu-Jitsu has become.

In the sport’s relentless advance through the world’s most prominent capitals and cities, all of which continuously evolve in the competitive scene, AJP has not only met athletes and professors but also new gyms and teams. Over six thousand teams worldwide registered to fight with us, each one ready to fight for glory and the improvement of the martial art.

For our next season, the AJP team is aiming even higher for its numbers, with plans to reach new cities and welcome both newcomers and veterans of the sport, all with a single goal in mind: to tell the world that Jiu-Jitsu will show you your best form and that competition will shape that form into reality.

Don’t miss the new and exciting season 2023-2024, which has already begun.

Check out our calendar on AJPTour.com , choose your next tournament, and fight knowing that you’ll be stepping onto a big stage and putting on a great show alongside Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro, the well-known AJP.

Abu dhabi’s ajp tour returns to the u.s. with gi and no-gi orlando international pro events.

Danny O'Donnell

The AJP Tour 2021-2022 season rolls on with the first 2022 event on U.S. soil taking place in Orlando, Florida on April 16th and 17th. The Dover Shores Community Center will play host to the gi and no-gi event that will undoubtedly draw some of the top athletes in the sport from all over North America. These athletes will compete not only for a gold medal, but also for rankings points that will play an important factor in the remainder of the AJP Tour season.

The 2021-2022 season started on November 20, 2021 and will run through November 19, 2022, ending with the prestigious Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. With the most comprehensive and rewarding ranking system in all of sport jiu-jitsu, the AJP Tour has consistently drawn many of the best jiu-jitsu athletes to its events. Reigning champions include Beatriz Mesquita, Micael Galvao, Pablo Lavaselli, Gabrieli Pessanha, Gutemberg Pereira, and Isaque Bahiense, among others.

AJP Tour events reward points based on the classification of the tournament, ranging from International, National, Continental, and Grand Slam events. Rankings are intended to award the participation and achievements of each athlete, and incentivize them to compete in as many AJP events as possible. The AJP Tour Orlando International Pro is an International event. As such, athletes will earn 600 points for a 1 st place finish, 400 points for 2 nd , and 300 for 3 rd .

Points earned in International events will be accumulated along with points from other events to determine Best of Season champions, Best of Continent champions, and to qualify for Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour events, where athletes are eligible for more ranking points and prize money. These rewards are vital to the professionalism of the sport and have kept athletes competing in these events since they were founded in 2009.

The AJP Tour held two tournaments in North America in 2021 that were part of the 2021-2022 season. These events, both held in Miami, included a Grand Slam in August 2021 and an International Pro in November 2021. The AJP Tour plans to continue to grow and develop in the U.S. and Canada, as the organization is committed to continuing to expand its global reach and grow the sport on a larger scale.

Global expansion of the AJP Tour events and the prizes awarded to athletes have continued to raise the bar for professional jiu-jitsu. Other organizations have followed suit and have implemented bigger financial rewards for their top athletes. The 2021-2022 AJP Tour season is another step towards increased professionalism and in turning Abu Dhabi into the world capital for sport jiu-jitsu.

Where To Begin? A Guide To The AJP Tournaments You Can Participate In Throughout The Year

admin

Kickstarted mid-November, the season 2023-2024 has only just begun and will go on providing thrills to fight fans and athletes all the way to the next ADWPJJC. Given that we now stand at a sort of starting point of the season, this is arguably the best time for a refresher course on the many competitions that AJP promotes all around the year.

With Grand Slams, Continentals, Nationals, Grand Prix, and all the other titles flying around in our organization, it’s worth setting the time aside to explain how each tournament differs from one another and how all of them will help you gain fighting experience and, of course, those coveted ranking points and prizes. So without further ado, let’s get down to it!

Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Championship (1st place – 4000 points)

This is the biggest tournament available in the AJP and it acts as both a closer for the previous season and an opener for the next one. Always held in Abu Dhabi, the organization’s birthplace, the ADWPJJC is highly regarded among the Jiu-Jitsu community and it frequently draws competitors from across the world, all hungry to add the most important title to their grappling records. Kids, Youths, Amateurs, Masters, and of course, Professionals are all welcome to put on their gis, join the championship, and make a name for themselves in this grand finale. The competition ends with a closing ceremony and the unveiling of the season’s Heroes, the very best athletes who competed with us that year. Giving out the most points out of all tournaments, this competition can make or break your season, so be sure to register.

Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tour (1st place – 2000/3000 points)

As hinted by the name, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tour is a traveling show. With the UAE’s capital always on the roadmap, the ADGS also visits key locations around the world, usually favoring countries with deeper connections to the gentle art. Rio de Janeiro, Miami, and London are just some of the locales that have received the ADGS over the years, and the tour is always looking for new places to land and spark the fires of competition. It’s worth remembering that the Grand Slam is a gi -only tournament, typically only a limited number of these take place in any given year, and it usually attracts the best athletes Jiu-Jitsu has to offer, so keep your eyes peeled and don’t let the chance to experience this level of competition pass you by.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix No-Gi (1st place – 2000 points)

If you’re looking for a chance to score major points and prefer fighting without the gi, this one’s for you. Whether you’re a colored or a black belt, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix No-Gi welcomes all to put on their rashguards and fight for gold and glory in the AJP mats. With a whopping 2000 points offered for gold medalists, this can be the tournament that will land you at the head of the rankings. However, it’s worth noting that the Grand Prix No-Gi isn’t around all the time, so it pays to keep your ears to the ground and make sure you’re ready to register whenever the next installment pops up.

AJP Tour Continental Jiu-Jitsu Championship (1st place – 1400 points)

Another global competition promoted by the AJP, the Continental has a more predictable schedule, as the name suggests. Once a year, the tournament lands in Asia, Africa, and Europe, with the American continent usually receiving separate editions for its northern and southern counterparts. The Continentals used to be a Professional-only competition, but as of the 2022-2023 season, Masters, Amateurs, and even Youths are now also able to compete, increasing the tournament’s reach and giving athletes the chance to gain even more points. If you need further motivation to take part in one of our Continentals, it’s worth noting that the points gained here make up a significant part of your final ranking score. Finally, these are usually fought in the gi, but there have been instances of No-Gi Continentals, so stay sharp for any announcements regarding your area.

AJP Tour National Jiu-Jitsu Championship (1st place – 1000 points)

Still providing a good amount of points and taking place more often than the previous championships listed here, the Nationals provide a good chance to earn some bang for your buck while easing on the travel expenses. This is because these tournaments have a broader list of places that they visit, with events being hosted in big and small countries alike, providing athletes with a chance to fight closer to their homes. But make no mistake, there are no additional requirements to fight in Nationals, meaning you can fight in one even if you’re not from the country that’s currently hosting it. The accessibility coupled with the schedules and the points awarded make the Nationals one of the most cost-effective championships on AJP’s roster, so stay tuned to know when we’ll be closer to you.

AJP Tour Regional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (1st place – 800 points)

While Regionals have been around since the 2021-2022 season, it wasn’t until last season that it really gained traction and became a key addition to the AJP’s repertoire. Awarding 800 points for division champions, the Regionals are a solid chance to accrue some points and, like the Nationals, not spend a lot on traveling. Athletes of all ages, graduations, and nationalities are more than welcome to register and test their skills in yet another high-level AJP tournament. Check out the calendar to find out when the next Regional will be in your area.

AJP Tour International Jiu-Jitsu Championship (1st place – 600 points)

Internationals are a constant throughout the year. While it offers fewer points than all the other events listed so far, the Internationals make up for it with consistency as new editions pop up all around the world during the entire season. If you’re looking to compete, odds are there’ll be an International ready to welcome you in its mats on that weekend. Whether you’re a newcomer athlete aiming to gain experience or a battle-hardened warrior looking to keep your skills sharp, the International is always a safe bet when it comes to schedule. Register for an International now and take this chance to see the world through the eyes of Jiu-Jitsu.

AJP Jiu-Jitsu Festival (No points awarded)

A low-stakes tournament that doesn’t give any points and allows athletes to focus solely on their Jiu-Jitsu, Festivals are a great starting point for competitors. Usually reserved for Kids and Youths, these also sometimes welcome Masters and provide athletes with a less stressful environment while still giving the thrill of competition. It won’t do your ranking position any favors, but it might just be what your Jiu-Jitsu needs, especially if you’re just starting to compete or if you’ve been away from the mats for a long time. Register your kids for a Festival and witness the beginning of their journey through the gentle art.

It’s worth noting that, while almost every weekend has some action going on, not every tournament you fight will be weighed in for your final ranking score. For more information on the rankings and how points work in the AJP, click  here !

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA
