About the Disney Fantasy

One year after the maiden voyage of the Disney Dream , her twin sister, the Disney Fantasy set sail on March 31, 2012, joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet of ships (including Disney  Magic and the Disney Wonder) .

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship: Minnie Mouse Statue

How Big is the Disney Fantasy?

Over 130,000 tons in weight, the Disney Fantasy is 1115 feet long from bow to stern. The ship was made to be the twin sister of the  Disney Dream.

CAPACITY Passengers: 4000 Staterooms: 1250 Crew (aka "Cast Members"): 1400

The Crew-to-Passenger ratio equals out to one Cast Member for every 2.8 guests!

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

  • The Disney Fantasy is 1,115 feet which is longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and longer than the height of New York City’s famous Chrysler Building
  • The interior is decorated in art nouveau style, characterized by geometric designs and bold, solid colors
  • Each of the 4 DCL ships has a unique statue in their atrium lobby. Disney Fantasy's Statue is Mademoiselle Minnie Mouse
  • Mariah Carey is the Godmother of the Disney Fantasy
  • Disney was granted special permission by the U.S. Coast Guard to paint its lifeboats yellow – rather than the traditional regulation color of orange – to preserve the Mickey Mouse color palette of red, yellow and black
  • Staterooms are 25% larger than the current industry average
  • On the carpet in the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream stateroom corridors, a ship’s wheel encompasses a map of the world and nautical flags spell out the name of the ship
  • The stern (back end of the ship) features Dumbo and Timothy
  • The bow (front end of the ship) features Sorcerer Mickey

Is that included, disney fantasy dining, main dining, about disney fantasy restaurants.

Like the other ships in the DCL fleet, the Disney Fantasy features "Rotational Dining."

To mix up your dinner dining enjoyment, guests rotate between three main restaurants, offering a  unique dining experience every night. Your server, assistant server and the rest of dinner staff will move with you.

Here are the Disney Fantasy restaurants that are part of the rotational dining.

Enchanted Garden Restaurant on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Image: Disney Cruise Line

Enchanted Garden

Enjoy dinner in a backdrop that simulates a French conservatory. During the meal, the ceiling changes colors, starting with a vibrant blue color to serve as daytime, transforming to a golden red color to mimic the setting sun, finally finishing in a brilliant night sky full of starlight.

The light fixtures in the dining room will "bloom" during your meal. It's the subtle effects of this dining room that make it so delightful.

Royal Court Restaurant on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Royal Court

Dining in the Royal Court places you smack in the middle of a Disney fairytale.

The room's design showcases the classic settings of films such as Snow White , Sleeping Beauty , and Beauty and the Beast.

The wall murals are opulent, classic, and gorgeous. Take some time to gaze at each one.

Disney Fantasy Animator's Palate

Animator's Palate

My favorite interactive dining experience of all Disney themed dining rooms takes place here in Animator's Palate. Disney animations come to life before your eyes. We won't reveal too much of the secret sauce here, but check out my Animator's Palate tips here - make sure to read tips #43-46.

Casual Dining

Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship Cabanas Buffet

Cabanas is the main buffet restaurant. It tends to be the most highly visited place to eat because of the flexibility in schedule (you can eat pretty much whenever you want) but there is usually plenty of capacity. Cabanas serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (in case you'd like to skip your rotational dining or you're late to the Main Dining seating). Entrees, appetizers, salads, snacks, and desserts of so many varieties are available. Some offerings will change from meal to meal, while others are regular mainstays on the menu. If you find a favorite dish, (Mickey Mouse pancakes anyone?) this can be a nice go-to option for finicky eaters, especially your little ones.

EYE SCREAM TREATS

Disney Fantasy Frozone Smoothies

FROZONE TREATS

Disney Fantasy Flo's Cafe

If you don't want to wander too far from the pool, these three foods stations are covered with shade and serve pizza, burgers, chicken nuggets, and chips.

Disney Fantasy Senses Juice Bar

SENSES JUICE BAR

Just like its name implies, purchase fruit & vegetable juice combinations. Found next to Senses Spa and Salon.  Additional fees apply.

Disney Fantasy Sweet on You

SWEET ON YOU

Premium ice cream, decadent milkshakes and hand-crafted gelato are highlights of this "sweet shop" that is themed after Mickey and Minnie Mouse shorts. Additional charges apply for the goodies sold here.

Disney Fantasy Beverage Station

BEVERAGE STATION

The drinks here are FREE. Your options include water, soda, juices, coffee, tea, milk, fruit punch, lemonade, and hot cocoa.

The bars and lounges on board will charge you for sodas, but it is free here. Check out tip #48 on my Disney Cruise Tips to enjoy more free soda.

Disney Fantasy Room Service Menu

ROOM SERVICE

Brought to your stateroom

Disney Fantasy's room service menu is impressive. It is almost completely free, and options available at any time of the night or day.

To get more advice about room service, read tips 54-59 of my 101 Disney Cruise Tips .

Exclusive Dining

Looking for an adult only meal? Or something that will make your little one beam for days on end? The Disney Fantasy offers exclusive dining opportunities to fulfill those wishes.

Palo Restaurant on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Image: Brownie Bites

This is a signature Disney dining  experience and it is available only for adults.

In our opinion, the Northern Italian menu is worth the premium fee you pay for it. When you top off the delicious kids-free meal with gorgeous seascapes, you have a brunch or dinner to remember.

Reservations are required and there's a dress code as well, please  refer to our Disney Cruise packing list for suggestions on what to wear.

Remy Restaurant on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

This is the Disney Fantasy's finest dining experience and it is available only for adults.

Dinner at this Parisian themed restaurant is made up of multiple tasting courses. Remy also offers a champagne brunch, a 5-course dessert menu, and Petites Assiettes de Remy featuring small plates and fine wine (only available on the first night of your cruise).

As with Palo, reservations are required and the dress code is mandatory.  Refer to our Disney Cruise packing list for clothing suggestions.

Royal Court Royal Tea on Disney Fantasy

Royal Court Royal Tea

Deck 3 at Royal Court

Little princes or princesses (3 to 12) can join their favorite Disney characters for a tea party. While this tea party has an additional fee, it includes a chance to meet one-on-one with the princesses and take home a few royal gifts.

DISNEY FANTASY ENTERTAINMENT

Every evening on the Disney Fantasy, an exciting entertainment event will be put on in the Walt Disney Theatre.

Guests get to witness performances that are truly Broadway-level in quality. Also frequenting the stage are musicians, jugglers, ventriloquists, hypnotists, or comedians. Sometimes they put up a feature movie on a massive screen. The movie is usually a Disney-owned film that is new or due to theaters.

The Walt Disney Theatre is located on Decks 3 and 4 Forward.

Aladdin the Musical on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Aladdin - a Musical Spectacular

The classic songs and scenes of Disney's adored  Aladdin come to life on the stage in the Walt Disney Theatre on every  Disney Fantasy voyage.

Frozen the Musical on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

This Fall: Frozen, A Musical Spectacular

On October 26, the Fantasy will enjoy showings of the theatrical production of Frozen. Coincides perfectly with the release of the movie "Frozen 2."

Disney Wishes - shown on Disney Fantasy cruise ship

Disney Wishes

This engaging musical tells the story of three high schoolers who are just about to graduate. Together with beloved Disney characters from classic movies, they learn how to remain a "kid at heart" even while moving to young adulthood.

Pirate Night

Don on your best pirate outfit (puffy shirt, anyone) to get ready for a fun day of pirate activities , character meet and greets, and the best deck party that Disney Cruise Line has to offer.

The night finishes up with a bang, as Disney Fantasy shoots fireworks into the night sky.

Note: some sailings (like some Alaska) don't do the fireworks.

Character Greetings

Meet and Greet Characters on Disney Fantasy

Meet and Greets

I guess we're just big kids, because some of our favorite moments on a  Disney Cruise is meeting our favorite characters.

Pack an autograph book ( see our packing list ) and see how many signatures you can collect.

They mix up the times and characters to meet each day, so keep your eye on the DCL app each day.

Frozen Meet and Greet on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Free Ticketed Events

These events require tickets (they're free at online checkin):

  • Frozen Meet and Greet
  • Princess Gathering
  • Heroic Encounters
  • Star Wars Character Experience

Tickets are limited so reserve them during online checkin . If they are sold out, visit Guest Services as soon as you get on the ship; there are often tickets available there.

Disney Fantasy: Disney Character Breakfast

Character Breakfast

On select 7+ night cruises, you can eat breakfast with Disney and Disney Junior Characters. They go from table to table, posing for photos, giving high fives, and saying hi.

Tickets are FREE, but they are limited. Again, you'll want to jump on these during online check-in .

Midship Detective Agency: Disney Cruise Interactive Game

Midship Detective Agency

This interactive game will take you all over the ship trying to solve a fun mystery.

On Deck 5, pick up a badge at the kiosk. You'll get clues that lead you to artwork around the ship that comes to life when you wave your badge at it.

There are various stories and randomized possible endings.

D Lounge on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

The whole family is welcome to party the night away at the D Lounge. We have had some legendary Karaoke moments here as a family. Music, games and live entertainment are just a few of the attractions you’ll find here.

Disney Fantasy: Buena Vista Theatre

Buena Vista Theatre

Disney Fantasy: Funnel Vision

Funnel Vision

Funnel Vision is a giant screen that shows Disney movies while you chill on Deck 9 or swim in Goofy’s Pool.

Called “Funnel Vision” because it’s mounted onto the forward funnel of the ship.

It's a huge LED screen, totally state of the art.

DISNEY FANTASY POOLS

Goofy Pool on Disney Fantasy

Mickey's Pool & Slide

Shaped like a Mickey head, this freshwater kids pool is just 2 feet deep, making it a safe place for little ones (ages 3 and up) to splash.

Close by is spiraling Mickey's slide. The slide is approximately "one deck tall" and is available to kids 4-14 years old and in the range of 38"-64" tall.

Donald's Pool on Disney Fantasy

Donald's Pool

Rectangular in shape, Donald's pool sits directly in front of the big Funnel Vision screen. It will be a busy hub on days at sea, with deck chairs surrounding it.

AquaDuck on Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

Truly a Disney innovation, the AquaDuck was the first "roller coaster at sea".

To ride, start at Deck 12, climb a flight of stairs to Deck 16 (the highest point you can reach on the ship.)

Sit down in an inflatable plastic raft and get launched for a wet ride through a 765-foot-long clear tube track that will have you circle the ship.

Single riders must be at least 54" tall, but children that are 42" tall can ride with someone ages 14 and up.

Disney Fantasy: Nemo's Reef

Image: Youtube

Nemo's Reef

Splash pad with a fun Finding Nemo theme for kids ages 3 and under. Water spurts all over; coming up from the floor and jetting from replicas of characters from the movie.

Disney Fantasy: Quiet Cove Pool

Quiet Cove Pool

This adult-only area is reserved to be a quiet sanctuary for grownups to escape the kids...err, relax and unwind. It's much quieter and they serve cocktails. Must be age 18+.

Disney Fantasy: Satellite Falls Pool

Satellite Falls

My escape literally every day at sea. I took a book and loved just gazing out at the endless horizon of sea. A shallow pool surrounded by comfortable deck chairs - with your choice of sun or shade. Must be age 18+.

DISNEY FANTASY CONCIERGE

Concierge lounge.

Concierge guests will enjoy this luxurious, chic escape from the rest of the ship.

The Concierge Level Lounge allows guests to access the internet, drink a cocktail, watch news or sports on a huge TV, and partake of complimentary beverages and food served throughout the day.

The Concierge staff is always here to answer any questions or provide additional personal assistance with anything you need.

Concierge Sundeck

Connected to the Concierge Lounge, you'll find a sundeck available only to Concierge level guests.

Head up a short flight of stairs from the Lounge and you'll find a premium sunbathing location unavailable to the rest of your shipmates. Perched above the Quiet Cove Pool, it's a quiet area for sunning and relaxing.

It has plenty of shade if you want or sun if you prefer in comfortable chairs. You can also step out onto Satellite Falls if desired, and simply pop back into the private area with your badge. If you want a quick snack, just walk the steps down to the Lounge.

Towels and sunscreen are provided.

OTHER ONBOARD SERVICES

Health center.

The Health Center is available when you're feeling sick, need first aid or have a medical emergency.

The clinic keeps regular daily hours to offer care for non-emergencies. If you have an emergency, the ship has a doctor and nurse on call 24/7.

Tender Lobbies

Guest services.

Got a question or request? This is your place. I have found the crew that manages Guest Services to be very responsive and caring.

They can help you make spa appointments or dining reservations, plan your vacation by explaining activities, ship amenities, and the ship schedule.

Questions with your bill are handled here. You may also request a free crib or diaper genie here. Book these when you first arrive to make sure you get one.

Port Adventures Desk

Onboard sales desk.

Plan and book future Disney Cruises. Why would you book a Disney cruise while on a Disney cruise, you ask? You’d be surprised by how many people do!

It’s all about the perks. It’s pretty much the only way to get a Disney cruise for a discounted price.

Here’s the low down:

  • 10% discount on prevailing rates on your next cruise (concierge-level excluded)
  • Stateroom credit of $100 (3-6 nights) or $200 (7-night cruises or longer)
  • Reduced deposit on 7-night sailings or longer

You don’t have to decide on a date while on the ship. Just put a $250 deposit down as a placeholder for a future cruise and sail within the next 24 months.

Laundry Facilities

Decks 2,5,6,7,8

The Dream’s self-serve laundry facilities are located on the following decks:

  • Deck 2 Forward
  • Deck 6 Forward
  • Deck 7 Forward
  • Deck 9 Forward
  • Deck 10 Mid

Or if you prefer, full-service laundry and dry cleaning is available as well. Just contact Guest Services for pickup.

Disney Fantasy: A Complete Guide to What’s On Board

by Jenna Saxton | Nov 3, 2023 | Disney Cruise Line , Disney Fantasy

disney fantasy tour youtube

Discover the staterooms, dining options, entertainment, and more that await cruisegoers sailing on the Disney Magic.

Are you getting ready to set sail onboard the Disney Fantasy ? Setting sail for the first time all the way back in 2012, the Fantasy is one of the biggest ships within Disney Cruise Line’s fleet and is full of fun for the entire family. We’re breaking down everything you need to know about this ship, from staterooms to all the dining options to what entertainment you can enjoy onboard.

About the Disney Fantasy

  • Entertainment

The Disney Fantasy is the fourth ship within the Disney Cruise Line fleet and first set sail on its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral on March 31st, 2012. Now, over a decade later, the ship is known for longer itineraries (including 7-night sailings) to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. It also stops at Castaway Cay, Disney’s first private island, in nearly all of its voyages and it will soon also sail to Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point when it opens in early 2025.

Nearly identical to the Disney Dream structurally, the Disney Fantasy is truly a luxury ship. It weighs 130,000 gross tons and spans 1,115 feet in length. And, with 1,250 staterooms onboard, the Fantasy can host up to 4,000 passengers in addition to its 1,458-person crew.

Once onboard, you’ll be welcomed into the Grand Atrium by a golden statue of Mickey Mouse and many of his friends are hiding around within the architecture. The ship is themed to encompass a variety of fantastical, magical Disney stories and you’ll notice that much of the design and decor in the atrium takes inspiration from a peacock

On the stern of the Disney Fantasy, you’ll find Dumbo, the Flying Elephant, and Timothy Q. Mouse. And, you can explore 14 decks including staterooms, restaurants, lounges, entertainment venues, pools, recreational areas, and more. Learn more about them all below!

Where Does the Disney Fantasy Sail?

The Disney Fantasy is based out of Port Canaveral, which is the home port of the Disney Cruise Line. From Port Canaveral, the Fantasy takes guests on longer voyages including 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10-night itineraries.

Current destinations of the Disney Fantasy include the Bahamas, Mexico, Grand Caymen, Jamaica, the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Martin, Puerto Rico, Antigua, St. Lucia, and Dominica. Every sailing also includes a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, and will also stop at Disney’s newest private island, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, on select sailings in 2025.

Staterooms on the Disney Fantasy

There are 1,250 staterooms on the Disney Fantasy with a total of 10 different room types to choose from. So, whether you’re looking for luxury, a suite to fit the whole family or a smaller interior room, you’ll likely have no difficulty finding a stateroom to fit your needs. And, of course, wheelchair-accessible staterooms are available as well in all the different room categories.

Here’s a look at the different types of staterooms you can book to help you find the room that best fits your needs:

Inside Staterooms

On the Disney Fantasy, there are a total of 150 inside staterooms. When booking, you’ll have the choice of two different options: the Deluxe Inside Stateroom and the Standard Inside Stateroom. As Disney Cruise Line’s base accommodations, you won’t have a view of the exterior or ocean. However, these rooms do include a Magical Porthole that shows real-time ocean views featuring animated Disney characters.

All inside staterooms sleep up to four adults.

Oceanview Staterooms

There are a total of 199 oceanview staterooms on the Disney Fantasy, offering similar room sizing and layouts to the inside staterooms with one big difference – you get a porthole window that offers views of the ocean as you cruise (some rooms even include two!).

disney fantasy tour youtube

You can choose between the Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom or the Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom, depending on the size of your travel party. The Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom sleeps 3 to 5 guests, whereas the Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom is slightly smaller and sleeps 3 to 4 guests.

Verandah Staterooms

If you plan to spend a lot of time in your room and want your own private deck to take in the ocean, a verandah stateroom will give you just that! The verandah staterooms take up most of the Disney Fantasy, with a total of 901 available onboard including 21 suites. Each room comes with its own private verandah just for you and anyone in your room, plus, you can even have the barrier between rooms removed to expand your verandah if you are staying in two neighboring rooms.

disney fantasy stateroom

There are three verandah stateroom options including a Deluxe Family Ocean Stateroom with Verandah (which sleeps 4 to 5, except Category 4E staterooms which sleep 3 to 4 guests), a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah (which sleeps 3 to 4 guests), and a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Navigator’s Verandah.

Concierge Staterooms

The most luxurious staterooms onboard the Disney Fantasy are the concierge staterooms. These rooms take your cruise experience up one notch offering the most square footage of any stateroom on the Fantasy and concierge services that are similar to what you receive in a club-level room at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. These are also the most expensive room types onboard, though you’ll receive more personalized service, access to an exclusive concierge-level lounge, and other perks.

There are three different types of concierge rooms on the Disney Fantasy including:

  • Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah
  • Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

Each room type offers a unique layout and room for families of 5. Both the Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah and Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah are decorated with original Disney artwork and vintage hallmarks, while the Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah features some designs that take inspiration from Peter Pan.

Dining on the Disney Fantasy

Whether you’re hungry for a mid-afternoon meal, a quick snack, a sweet treat, or something more formal, there’s a restaurant to satisfy any craving on the Fantasy ! With sit-down formal dining options as well as large buffets, room service, and casual grab-and-go choices, you certainly won’t go hungry when you sail with the Disney Cruise Line.

disney fantasy dining

Enchanted Garden. Photo by Danny Shuster

The most unique part of any Disney cruise is the rotational dining service for dinner each night of your voyage. This means that you’ll try all three of the main restaurants onboard during your sailing, though you can always opt to skip a night or two of the rotational dining for a more casual meal or a reservation at one of the adult-only restaurants that are not included with your sailing (at an additional cost). Here are all of the formal dinner options on the Fantasy:

  • Enchanted Garden (Deck 2)
  • Animator’s Palate (Deck 3)
  • Royal Court (Deck 3)
  • Remy adult-exclusive fine dining (Deck 12) – reservations required

You can also grab a quick bite at the following casual restaurants:

  • Cabanas (Deck 11)
  • Flo’s Café: Luigi’s Pizza (Deck 11)
  • Tow Mater’s Grill (Deck 11)
  • Fillmore’s Favorites (Deck 11)
  • Eye Scream (Deck 11)
  • Frozone Treats (Deck 11)
  • Sweet on You (Deck 11)

There are also a variety of nightclubs and lounges including:

  • Currents Bar (Deck 12)

  • Cove Bar (Deck 11)
  • La Piazza (Deck 4)

A Theme Park Fan's Guide to the Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship

disney fantasy tour youtube

Arthur Levine

The fourth ship in the Disney Cruise Line flotilla, the Disney Fantasy is jam-packed with things to do. That is by design. After all, passengers need activities to keep them occupied.

But, it's not just the quantity of things to do, it's the nature of the activities that distinguishes the Disney ships, and the Fantasy in particular. Imagineers, the fabled designers who conjure Disney's park attractions , also bring the cruise ships to life. So, it should come as no surprise that there is plenty of crossover between the two. That's not to say that guests should expect a ride aboard the Tower of Terror or a spin on Dumbo as they sail the seas (although there is an honest-to-goodness coaster on the Fantasy—more on that later), but Disney fans will find plenty of the same kinds of whimsy, charm, and pixie-dusted technological magic that make visits to the parks such a joy.

There is wonderful food offered on the ship, the staterooms are great, the level of service is top-notch, and the Fantasy excels at other things you'd expect from a high-end cruise line. But let's take a journey around the ship and explore the many highlights that will delight, thrill, and amaze theme park fans.

Quack Up on the AquaDuck

Arthur Levine

Other cruise ships have water slides, but the Fantasy's sister ship, the Disney Dream , was the first to introduce a water coaster . The wet and wild fun continues aboard the Fantasy, which offers its own AquaDuck (great name!).

If you start hyperventilating at the mere mention of the term, "coaster," have no fear. Well, have a tiny bit of fear. The AquaDuck is relatively tame, and all but the most thrill-averse should be able to handle it. On our thrill-o-meter scale (0=Wimpy!, 10=Yikes!), we give it a 3 for mild bursts of speed.

Because it is so popular and it is slow loading, there are often long waits of 30 minutes to an hour or more. But the views on the stairway leading to the ride, which is among the highest points on the ship, are spectacular, so who cares about waiting? Passengers need to be a bit agile to climb into (and out of) the two-person rafts. There are no safety belts; riders hang on to the raft's handles to secure themselves.

A short conveyor belt deposits each raft into the ride's enclosed tube. After a small drop, the rafts enter a banked curve and travel a straightaway along the port side of the ship. Gravity and a steady stream of water keep the rafts moving at a fast, but not out-of-control clip. They pick up a bit of speed when they hit a small dip in the tube and accelerate slightly when jets of water propel the rafts uphill. There is a second dip/blast/uphill element during the port-side run.

The speed, acceleration, drops, banked curves, and uphill blasts are quite mild compared to most uphill water coasters, such as the Crush 'n' Gusher at Disney World's Typhoon Lagoon. Some water coasters actually deliver abbreviated moments of airtime as riders crest their hills, but the toned down AquaDuck lacks the requisite oomph. Still, the coaster does feature a clear acrylic tube which provides passengers with a thrilling view as they travel 14 decks above the ocean.

At the far end of the oval course, the AquaDuck briefly enters one of the ship's stacks, and Disney provides some Space Mountain -like effects with colorful bursts of light that make it appear as if the rafts are moving faster than their actual speed. Reemerging into the light on the starboard side, the rafts slow considerably to an almost lazy river pace. The more relaxed speed allows riders to soak in the views of the vast ocean, wave to their shipmates on the deck below, and consider just how crazy it is that they are riding a water coaster— aboard a ship.

The rafts take a final small drop down one deck to deposit passengers in the unload area. Many riders make a beeline to the stairs up to the loading platform for a re-ride. It's no wonder the lines are always long.

Conduct Watery Experiments at the AquaLab

In addition to the AquaDuck water coaster, the ship offers plenty of other ways to enjoy water park-like fun, including the AquaLab water play area. Unique to the Fantasy, AquaLab offers all kinds of interactive sprayers, water cannons, and other gizmos to douse those triggering the effects and everyone around them.

The area is quite cute as is its backstory. Donald Duck's nephews, the interchangeable Huey, Dewey, and Louie, designed the AquaLab as a way to generate the water pressure needed to keep the AquaDuck flowing. There is even a pipe leading from the lab to the ride with crude lettering and arrows to indicate how the whole contraption is supposed to work.

Finding Nemo's Reef and Other Watery Fun

Passengers of all ages can find water park-style fun on the Fantasy. Nemo's Reef allows little squirts to get in on the action with a collection of colorful sprayers and small slides themed to Finding Nemo . There is also a twisting water slide that is propped up by a giant Mickey Mouse hand, a pool for families, and a pool for younger children.

It's not all family fun, all the time on the ship. An adults-only area offers the appropriately named Quiet Cove pool. And the Satellite Sun Deck, a Fantasy exclusive, features Satellite Falls, a small wading pool with a steady, soothing water curtain.

This Ship Has Plenty of Character

Of course, no trip to a Disney theme park would be complete without meeting the Disney characters . Likewise, having some face time with Mickey and the gang is a must aboard a Disney ship.

There are a multitude of characters at multiple locations throughout the ship, many of them dressed in their finest nautical gear. Captain Mickey looks especially sharp in his outfit. The times and locations are published daily in the Personal Navigator that the crew leaves in each stateroom. With so many opportunities and a limited number of passengers, everyone is virtually guaranteed a minimal wait and some quality hang time with the characters.

Near the ship's Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, little princesses can meet Disney's princesses. The royal characters seem to be particularly patient and indulge their little subjects with a more generous amount of time than they typically are able to provide in the parks.

Make sure to have your camera handy for the character meet-ups. But don't fret too much if you forget it. A Disney photographer is always at the ready in the meet-and-greet areas—and around the ship. The Fantasy crew prints all of the photos and places them in a folder for the guests in each stateroom to review. Disney is only too happy to sell passengers the photos (along with imprinted frames, folders, and all kinds of other accessories) for fairly hefty fees. With its family focus, Disney is one of the few major cruise ships that does not include a casino. But it may be making up at least some of the gambling revenue with its photo sales.

You Are the Animator at Animator's Palate

Animation has always been front and center at the Disney theme parks. From the storybook castles that provide their focal points, to the characters that walk the streets, to the stories that inspire the attractions, Disney's animated classics are in the spotlight. Pavilions at both Disney California Adventure and Disney's Hollywood Studios takes guests behind the scenes to learn about the animation process. The Fantasy gives guests the opportunity to actually become animators in a stunning, utterly unique presentation.

On one of the evenings that they dine in Animator's Palate, one of the three main dining rooms on the ship, guests are given markers when they arrive at their table and told to draw a character on their placemats. For inspiration, scenes about food culled from classic Disney animated films (the "Be Our Guest" dining room scene from Beauty and the Beast for example) play on large monitors throughout the dining room.

The waitstaff collects the drawings. About midway through the meal, Mickey Mouse appears onscreen to inform diners that something special will be coming shortly. A few minutes later, the lights dim, and, incredibly, the characters that guests drew begin dancing, skating, and engaging in other activities in an animated production. It simultaneously delights and baffles the audience of would-be animators.

"There's nothing more exciting than when you see your animation come to life," says Joe Lanzisero, senior vice president, creative at Walt Disney Imagineering, and one of the chief designers of the Disney Fantasy. As a former animator, he certainly knows about the joys of watching his sketches first dance and skip across a screen. It is no less of a thrill for amateur animators.

Arms flail, legs articulate, bodies rotate, and other movements occur as the cast of characters perform one amazing choreographed scene after another. It doesn't matter whether the drawings are simple or highly refined. Somehow, the show's impressive technology seamlessly blends everything together. A minute or so into the presentation, the characters begin interacting with Pinocchio, the Genie from Aladdin and other Disney stars. That's when Animation Magic really turns on its magic. Channeling Walt Disney, who once said something similar about building Disneyland, Lanzisero says that creating Animation Magic is "one of those things that proves it's fun to do the impossible."

The signatures that diners provided on their placemats appear as the credits roll. At the end of the (delicious) meal, the waitstaff returns the drawings, which are adorned with gold "Official Animator" labels to the artists.

First introduced on the Fantasy, Animation Magic is a striking Imagineering breakthrough and one of the highlights of the cruise.

Dudes and Dudettes Can Meet and Talk with Crush

One of the most underrated Disney attractions is Turtle Talk with Crush, which is presented at both Epcot and Disney California Adventure . The character from Finding Nemo , who is known for his laid-back demeanor and his surfer-dude patois, interacts live with guests in an astonishing display of real-time animation.

You can also see Crush and the technology that brings him to life on full display aboard the Disney Fantasy. Crush actually drops in for visits in two different places. He makes the rounds at Animator's Palate and chats up dinner guests on their second night in the dining room. He can also be found in the Oceaneer Club, the Fantasy's hangout for children. (There are all kinds of other interactive, technological marvels that kids can play with in the club room.)

Hey! An Elephant Just Flew Past My Porthole!

Let's cheat a bit on this highlight from the Disney Fantasy, because there is no theme park equivalent to the ship's "magical portholes." Essentially, Disney has taken a liability–a cruise ship's windowless inside staterooms—and has turned it into an asset with its whimsical portholes.

Like the enchanted art throughout the ship, the portholes are actually monitors. In this case, they broadcast transmissions of cameras placed on the exterior of the ship. While they are not real windows, they do offer a real-time view of what is happening outside. Every few minutes, however, fantasy interrupts reality when an animated Dumbo flies by , a starfish from Finding Nemo crawls past, or some other animated character makes a fleeting appearance.

The portholes are enchanting and really open up the otherwise claustrophobic quarters. They have become so popular that Disney says guests who could otherwise afford to upgrade to the pricier outside rooms opt for a chance to stay in a room with a "magical porthole."

Take the Plunge at Castaway Cay

The water park fun doesn't stop when the Disney Fantasy docks at Castaway Cay, Disney's beguiling private island in the Bahamas. Pelican Plunge offers a couple of water slides with a unique twist: They plunge into the ocean.

Located on a floating platform a few hundred feet from shore, riders have to swim out (and back) to enjoy the plunge. The body slides, one enclosed and one open, aren't particulalry tall or fast, but they are fun. In addition to the slides, there is a small bucket atop the platform that spills its content without making the usual big splash associated with water park dump buckets. There are also a couple of water cannons that guests can aim at bouys to make propellers spin and trigger other events.

Wet and Mild at Castaway Cay

Small children can have water park fun on Castaway Cay as well. The water play area, Spring-a-Leak, features fountains and jets that offer wet fun and respite from the tropical heat. It's also a great place for kids to expend some energy and stay cool at the same time.

Princess (and Pirates) Makeovers

Hair, makeup, costumes, nail polish: Put it together and what have you got? Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The beauty salons that transform little girls into princesses at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom has proven enormously popular. Royal makeovers are also available on the Disney Fantasy.

The boutique offers packages that include options such as hairstyles (will that be a Snow White bob or a flowing Jasmine look, young lady?), sashes, wands, tiaras, shoes, and more. The salon also offers pirate makeovers for both boys and girls, although they seem to be far less popular.

Be a Goofball

The Fantasia Gardens and Winter Summerland miniature golf courses at Walt Disney World are a hoot and combine traditional mini-golf fun with Imagineering ingenuity. The nine-hole Goofy's Golf on the upper deck of the Fantasy isn't as elaborate or inventive as Disney's land-based courses, but they are still fun (and, in case you forgot, located on a cruise ship for crying out loud).

Playing a round doesn't require any additional fees. Players pick their own "goofballs" and choose a putter from a bag labeled "Max's Country Clubs." The themed course has to do with Goofy offering tips (in his inimitable Goofster way) about how to play golf. The holes are strewn with oversized props including lawn mowers, broken eyeglasses, and textbooks. There's even one with a kitchen sink. We are not sure why it's there (maybe because the course contains everything but the...), but it's certainly eye-catching and whimsical. While we didn't see it happen, we wonder how often errant balls are hit over the side of the boat and lost at sea.

3-D attractions such as It's Tough to Be a Bug at Disney's Animal Kingdom have long been theme park staples. But 3-D films have been showing up with greater frequency at neighborhood multiplexes. There is no dedicated 3-D attraction aboard the Disney Fantasy, but the plush Buena Vista Theatre shows first-run films (from Disney and its studio affiliates naturally), including 3-D movies. You won't get the theme park "4-D" experience), but you will get the goofy glasses and the latest Hollywood attempt at adding dimension to films.

Experience Star Wars at Sea

Sure the Disney parks have Star Wars: Galaxy‘s Edge , but you could have some intergalactic fun aboard the Fantasy on select sailings. The special cruises, which include what Disney calls “ Star Wars Day at Sea,” include meet-ups with characters such as Kylo Ren, Darth Vader, and R2-D2, live shows, activities, unique food, and a finale deck party.

Fireworks? On a Ship? Yup.

There is perhaps nothing more iconic at any Disney theme park than fireworks exploding over a storybook castle. Nearly all the parks have a pyrotechnic-filled kiss goodnight show. And wouldn't you know it? The Disney Fantasy has a fireworks show as well.

The only cruise line to offer fireworks at sea, the Fantasy lights the sky on the night that it features pirate-themed fun. In true Disney fashion, it isn't a few random bursts fired into the air, but part of a choreographed show. Passengers get into the yo-ho spirit during dinner by donning 'do rags and other pirate gear distributed in the ship's dining rooms. They assemble on the pool deck (with floorboards placed over the pools to accommodate the large crowds) and watch a film presentation on the Jumbotron screen that kicks off the Pirates IN the Caribbean celebration.

Human pirates than emerge from behind the screen to take over the ship, but are thwarted by Captain Jack Sparrow . He rises out of the top of one of the ship's stacks and rides a harness down to engage the menacing pirates in a corny skit that involves swordplay, Poseidon, and a golden goblet. When Jack takes possession of the goblet, he tosses it skyward to launch the Buccaneer Blast fireworks.

By Disney park standards, the fireworks aren't all that spectacular. But, the fact that they are even included on a ship is pretty amazing. Flares fired from both of the funnels accompany the firework blasts on the starboard side of the ship. The whole shebang is synchronized to music. While the show isn't worthy of a Disney castle, the finale is nonetheless impressive. The show is followed by Club Pirate, a themed dance party on the pool deck.

Disney Fantasy Itineraries

Disney fantasy review, review of disney fantasy.

The 2012-built MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship is Walt Disney 's second (Dream-class) liner with sistership Disney Dream (2010).

The vessel (IMO number 9445590) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311058700) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

DCL-Disney Cruise Line is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company (shipowner). The company was incorporated in 1996 as "Magical Cruise Company Ltd". Walt Disney also owns the Bahamian private island Castaway Cay (exclusive port of call - for Disney ships only) and an exclusive Cruise Terminal at Port Canaveral (Orlando Florida) . Disney cruises are marketed as "family vacations" and feature unique and exclusive activities, such as costumed Disney Characters, adults-only deck areas, dedicated facilities for teens, kids and infants-toddlers, signature (trademarked) shipboard facilities and activities, themed live entertainment.

MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship

The 4000-passenger ship Disney Fantasy is no exception with its primary market being families with small children (especially with kids younger than 8) - the major revenue provider for the unique Walt Disney company. MS Disney Fantasy is almost 50% larger, 2-deck taller and with 44% bigger passenger capacity than the older fleet mates Magic and Wonder . The ship design is inspired by traditional 1920s ocean liners. The vessel features a navy blue hull, 2 bright red funnels, elegant Art Deco decorations and some of the most innovative technologies and fun ideas at sea, including:

  • 22 pieces of "Enchanted Art" adorning the walls of hallways - paintings and pictures that are actually framed LCD screens with a technology to recognize guests present and proceeding with one of several animations;
  • wave phones in every stateroom (used to call or text other guests) and effectively replacing the old onboard beeper system (now the counselors' messages come directly to the parents' phones);
  • the Magical Portholes on the walls of all Disney Fantasy Inside cabins (LED screens showing a real-time view of the ship).

The CLIENTELE consists almost entirely of North American travelers (the USA and Canada). The new Disney Lines approach to teens and young couples (by age-related activities and limited access onboard venues) adds a really strong appeal for multi-generational cruisers.

The DRESS CODE is similar to that of the Disney luxury resorts - day casual and evening resort casual (men - jackets (no ties) and pants, women - summer dresses). All Disney Fantasy sailings include one pirate and one semi-formal night. On 3-day Disney Fantasy cruises, one night is casual, 4-day sailings are with 2 casual evenings and on 5-day voyages 3 nights are casual.

Disney Fantasy TIPS (totaling the US $12 PP per day) are given to waiters (including the assistant waiters) and to cabin attendants. Additionally, a 15% gratuity on all drinks is automatically charged to guests' shipboard accounts.

Decks and Cabins

Most Disney Fantasy staterooms (1250 total, in 28 grades) are 205-255-ft2 Balconies. The ship has 21 Suites, 887 Balcony, 199 Oceanview and 150 Inside cabins. The largest accommodations are the Concierge Royal Suites (900 ft2 / 84 m2 plus 885 ft2 / 82 m2 terrace).

Disney Fantasy ship cabins are very well planned and equipped. Like on all Disney ships, Disney Fantasy staterooms are some of the industry's largest standard cabins, most of them designed to easily accommodate four passengers. Some of the best Disney cabins features are the ample closet space, the normal-sized living space and the split bathrooms (1 room with shower-bathtub-sink and a separate toilet and sink). Beds on Fantasy are raised to allow storing 2 medium-sized suitcases underneath, staterooms also got 2 vanities, a 22-inches smart HDTV, an iPod docking station and 2 rechargeable "Wave Phones" to be used ship-wide. The Disney Fantasy Inside cabin has a most innovative feature (and the industry's first, for that matter) - the Magical Portholes, which are LCD screens (above the beds) in the shape of portholes, projecting a real-time view outside the ship (provided by cameras). Veranda cabins feature 2 chairs and a small table on the balcony.

Concierge Suites and Concierge Family Cabins (Deck 11-12) are new for the line, offering direct access to the ship's concierge facilities (1 small lounge, a private sun deck area with chairs, free food and drinks). Most of the 1-bedroom suites are with connecting doors (1 queen bed, a sitting area with a double convertible sofa, 1 pull-down bed in the living rooms, a walk-in closet, 2 bathrooms (one with a hot-tub).

The largest Disney Fantasy stateroom, the Royal Suite, adds to all previously mentioned a living room, a wet bar, a kitchenette, media library and a Jacuzzi on the balcony.

The boat has 14 decks , of which 9 are with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The Disney Fantasy three themed main restaurants are called "Animator's Palate", "Enchanted Garden" and "Royal Palace". There are 2 adults-only specialty restaurants - "Remy" (named after the "Ratatouille" movie star, French cuisine) and "Palo" (Italian cuisine) as alternative dining options. The line's Rotational Dining system allows you to rotate to each of the three main restaurants each night while your servers follow you. The Animator's Palate has screens showing animated Disney characters and themes from "Finding Nemo" movie. The Enchanted Garden is a Versailles-inspired room, featuring lighting effects, transforming day into night. The Royal Palace is princesses-themed with numerous portraits of "Cinderella" and the "Sleeping Beauty" movie characters (even the bread baskets are shaped as the Cinderella's coach). The food quality is very good, the service staff is amicable and timely.

MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship

The Remy specialty restaurant is a classy place to be on any special occasion, offering a marvelous French menu and charging serious prices - a service fee of $75 PP (reservations are required, along with the formal dress code), drinks and wine are additional. The Palo restaurant is an Italian (Mediterranean) eatery with $20 cover PP (serves dinner and on selected days - Champagne brunch). Superb fish and seafood entrees, a cold buffet (meats, cheese, shrimp, salads and desserts) and several hot made-to-order items. The "Cabanas" casual dining complex on Deck 11 has several food and drink stations for hot and cold buffet items (including made-to-order omelets and sandwiches). The "Flo's Cafe" offers burgers, chicken fingers, wraps, pizza, salads.

Follows the complete list of Disney Fantasy restaurants and food bars.

  • Enchanted Garden Restaurant (696-seat forward Dining Room, inspired by the gardens of Versailles; serves as a buffet for breakfast and lunch, full service for dinner 5:45-8:15 p.m.)
  • Royal Palace Restaurant (696-seat forward Dining Room, offers complimentary French cuisine; specialty coffees and drinks are extra)
  • Animator's Palate Restaurant (696- seat aft Dining Room, animator's studio design, features favorite Disney-character dinner shows; serves complimentary drinks; Rotational Dining with two fixed Dinner seatings - at 5:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.)
  • Flo's Cafe (quick service restaurant with 3 food stations: "Fillmore's Favorites" (lite lunch, complimentary), "Tow Mater's Grill" (burgers bar, complimentary) and "Luigi"s Pizza")
  • Cabanas (self-service complimentary restaurant with American cuisine, pasta, sushi)
  • Remy (reservations-only, adults-only French specialty restaurant for lunch and dinner; aft location, bookings via the internet or onboard)
  • Palo (144-seat Italian specialty restaurant; adults-only, reservation-only; aft location; bookings via the internet or on board).

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The Disney Fantasy kids cruise fun clubs are the main reason for the line's high loyalty passengers ratio. Besides all the Disney characters and most innovative technologies and fun attractions on ships, the Disney children counselors are a pretty big reason many families to repeat their visits. Always smiling and friendly, they are hugely experienced, all college-educated, attentive and downright. The Oceaneer's "Club" and "Lab" facilities (ages 3-10) are connected, thus doubling the fun space. The "Oceaneer's Club" features the "Andy's Room" (with oversized Disney characters for kids to climb on) and the "Laugh Floor" (with its "laugh-o-meter" and Mike and Sully of "Monsters Inc"). The "Oceaneer's Lab" is maritime-themed, featuring an Animator's Studio and a small Sound Studio. The new Disney approach allows all kids ages 3-10 to access the same clubs with separate rooms and age-related activities.

The Fantasy ship children club is called "Edge" (ages 11-13) properly secluded on Deck 13 in the funnel. Best attractions here are the 18 ft (5,5 m) tall LCD wall, the video karaoke, and numerous interconnected PCs. The teen-only "Vibe" club (ages 14-17) is of 9000 ft2 (836 m2), with a fountain bar and its own sun deck and pools.

MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship

Public spaces are decorated in deep blue and red, with numerous "Mickeys" just about everywhere (cabin, artwork, dinnerware, railings). One of the ship's most memorable places is the 3-deck high Atrium lobby with its golden hue, the wide royalty-style winding staircase, and the Donald Duck bronze statue. The Fantasy Atrium is a hub area connecting restaurants, theaters, and shops. You may check emails in the Internet cafe, but there's also a Wi-Fi coverage throughout the ship. Like all Disney ships, Fantasy has no casino.

  • Fun activities on board

All Disney stage shows feature intricate sets and Disney themed captivating performances, and the big place for grand entertainment is the Disney Theater with goldies like the "Golden Mickeys" and "Villains Tonight", new amazing stage productions, like the "Disney's Believe" (directed by Gordon Greenberg) and all the best Disney movies in 3D. The themed Disney characters onboard have always been the greatest sensation of all, and there are countless opportunities to meet and greet Mickey and company around the ship - in contrast to Disneyland, here they all are accessible and will always stop for a hug and a photo with you. Another big success is the "Pirates in the Caribbean" kids party divided into two programs - the sing-along called "Mickey's Pirates in the Caribbean" followed by the "Club Pirate" (with many special effects) and great Disney fireworks between the shows.

  • SPA and FITNESS, pools, waterslide, technology

The "Senses" Spa & Salon offers all the usual treatments (haircuts, manicures) and more exotic choices (hot-stone massages, mud baths). The "Chill" is a teen-only Spa within the facility. The Fitness Center along with the usual equipment offers at additional fee Yoga and Pilates classes. The Sports Deck has a small sports court, a mini-golf course, Ping-Pong tables, a walking/jogging track.

Disney cruise water park slide Aquaduck

The pool deck has a large area for family fun water activities, featuring 2 hot tubs and 2 kids pools - "Donald's" (5 ft deep) and "Mickey's" (with a spiral slide). A big attraction here is the big LED screen mounted on the funnel. There's a toddler splash area (Nemo themed) located in the center on Deck 11 with huge glass panes for parents to monitor their kids.

The AquaDuck waterslide. The ever first water-coaster at sea is located atop the ship, featuring a 765 ft (233 m) long 4-decks high transparent tube, reaching the incredible 150 ft (46 m) above the ocean (there's a 42 inches (107 cm) height requirement). The "Nemo's Reef" is a small kids waterpark. And while speaking of water and pools - the adults only "Quiet Cove" pool area is a great place to hide from all the little angels and devils around the ship.

Follows the complete list of Disney Fantasy lounges, clubs and other entertainment venues for kids, teens, and adults.

  • Walt Disney Fantasy Theatre (1340-seat, offers live shows, aerial acrobatics performances, grand-style productions, 3D movies; with two evening shows - at 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.)
  • Fantasy's Atrium (3-deck high central ship area, featuring marble-carpet flooring, grand staircase, and panoramic glass elevators)

Disney Fantasy Wiki

The Walt Disney ship Fantasy is the company's fourth (currently newest) liner, with sistership Disney Dream . Each vessel is 40% larger in size than the 2 older Disney ships Magic and Wonder . While its capacity (at double occupancy) is 2500, Fantasy can accommodate up to 4000 passengers at full/max occupancy (all berths).

The vessel (Mayer Neptun yard/hull number 688) is powered by MAN B&W marine diesel engines (3x 12-cyl, 2x 14-cyl) plus diesel generators (3x 14,4 MW, 2x 16,8 MW) with total power output 76,8 MW. The propulsion system is electric (based on two converteam propulsion motors) with total power output 26 MW, plus two FPPs (5-blade Fixed-Pitch Propellers/inward-turning).

The vessel was ordered on February 22, 2007. Ship design was announced on Oct 29, 2009, and the first steel cut was in March 2009. The vessel's construction started with the keel-laying ceremony held on February 11, 2011. The launch (float-out from drydock) was on January 8, 2012, and the ship was officially delivered to The Walt Disney Company on February 9, 2012 (at Port Bremerhaven ).

The inaugural call at Port NYC New York (first arrival in the USA) was on February 28, 2012. The liner was christened in NYC on March 1st (2012) by Godmother Mariah Carey (1970-born US singer, actress, record producer, entrepreneur). The hull's stern character is the Flying Elephant Dumbo.

The Disney ship's namesakes are Carnival Fantasy (1990-built) and the cruise ferries Color Fantasy (2004) and Moby Fantasy (2023).

Fantasy vs Magic (ships comparison, new features)

"Bibbiti Bobbiti Boutique" (the 1st at sea, similar to those at all Disney land parks where girls transform into princesses). The ship-Boutique is also transformed into a Pirates League (during the Caribbean Pirates-themed night party) where kids get transformed into pirates. Aqualab is another feature (was, because now they added it to the Magic during the 2013 refurbishment). The nightclub "districts" area ("Europa") transforms into several different "districts" representing famous European cities & countries. Among those - "Tube" (London, UK), "Ooh La La" (France), "O'Gill's Pub" (Ireland), "La Piazza" (Italy). "Satellite Falls" is the Fantasy's adults-only deck. The "Animator's Palate" dining room's dinner show is themed "Sorcerer Mickey's "Animation Magic". Guests may draw their own characters to be presented by Mickey the Sorcerer Mouse.

One of the most visited attractions on MS Disney Fantasy is the AquaDuck. This water park with a slide will throw you into the swimming pool after a craziest spin in a long tube over the very ocean. Fantasy was also the debut for the "Muppets at Sea" show. Muppets participate in an interactive game full of mysterious clues for the passengers.

The vessel's last drydock (for regularly scheduled maintenance works) was in 2020 (at Damen Shiprepair Yard in Brest France ).

Disney Fantasy Cruise Tips: Check-in, arrival, and boarding

  • O nline check-in is open to first-time guests 75 days prior to your sail date.
  • When doing online check-in, select the earliest possible port arrival time. An earlier port arrival time will yield an earlier boarding group number when it comes time to board the ship.
  • You may arrive at the cruise terminal early despite your designated port arrival time.
  • Boarding group numbers (the order in which you get to go on the ship) are not assigned until you check-in at the cruise terminal.
  • Boarding typically begins at 12:00 PM noon.
  • Despite your extensive Disney Cruise planning and preparation , you will still be overwhelmed (with excitement!) when first getting onto the ship.
  • There is no one directing you where to go or what to do first once stepping foot onto the ship. My recommendation is to print off a map of the Fantasy ahead of time. Then, make your way to the lunch buffet at Cabanas restaurant immediately upon boarding.

Disney Fantasy Cruise tips: Sailing away

  • In cruise terminology, “Forward” is the forward part of the ship, and “Aft” refers to the back of the ship.
  • In cruise terminology, “Port” is the left side of the ship as you face forward. “Starboard” is the right side of the ship as you face forward.
  • Your Disney cruise stateroom will not be ready for you to use until around 1:30 PM. You will be informed via a general overhead announcement. This means having to make your way around the ship with your carry-on items and continue wearing the clothes that you came in until allowed into your stateroom.
  • For this reason, pack swimsuits and sunscreen if you hope to lounge around outside on the pool deck until your stateroom is ready.
  • Disney Cruise staff will be walking around before you are allowed into your stateroom selling water bottle and drink packages (beer and wine) that will then be delivered to your room.
  • For the best view, watch the Sailing Away party that is held on the main pool deck from the deck above the party. Deck 10 on the Magic and Wonder, Deck 12 on the Dream and Fantasy.
  • Disney Cruise staff walk around handing out drinks during the Sailing Away Party but take note, they are not free. We found the drink packages unnecessary when considering the carry-on alcohol policy .

Disney Fantasy Cruise tips: Your stateroom

  • There is plenty of storage space once inside your stateroom. Dresser drawers are deep, the beds are high enough to fit/store a suitcase underneath, and the ottoman top comes off and has storage inside.
  • No need to worry about assembling additional sleeping space each night. Turn down service is performed every evening and your beds will be all ready for you upon returning to your stateroom each night.
  • The porthole windows in the Oceanview staterooms are HUGE, provide excellent views, and let in lots of sunlight (the window sill is actually a bench that 2 small children can sit in). Do not shy away from these rooms if you don’t want to pay the price upgrade for a stateroom with a verandah.
  • On the Dream and Fantasy, your cabin light switch is activated by your Key to the World Card. You can also place a library card or other card in it for convenience.

Disney Fantasy Cruise Tips: Getting around

  • Most people tend to use the large, main stairways instead of the elevators to travel between floors on the ship.
  • Even though the ship is huge, you will get a general feel for the layout once you’ve been on it for 2-3 days. I would not let kids roam alone however, for it can be confusing how to get to and from places.
  • Make your own or purchase personalized door magnets from an Etsy shop to put on the outside of your stateroom door. Most people do so and you will regret not doing it if you don’t. This also helps children recognize your stateroom door among the thousands of other look-alike doors.
  • We did not participate in the ‘fish extender’ tradition and didn’t feel that we missed out, or wish that we had.

Disney Fantasy Cruise Tips: Dining

  • Main Dining reservations begin at 5:45 PM with evening showtime starting at 8:30 PM. Second Seating dining begins at 8:15 PM with even showtime starting beforehand at 6:15 PM. (Double-check exact time per your itinerary.)
  • You may make requests for your dining time preferences through a Disney reservation agent, as well as again when you check-in at the cruise terminal.
  • Your Key to the World Card is coded with your reservation information and table number, as well as has an acronym on the front that depicts the order of the restaurants that you have been assigned to visit i.e. AERA (Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, Royal Table, Animator’s Palate).
  • You can also speak with a Disney reservation agent to request which restaurants you’d like to repeat eating at during longer itineraries.
  • Many little girls dress up as princesses for dinner.
  • The non-alcoholic drink that you order for dinner the first night of your cruise will be automatically waiting for you at your table upon arrival to a restaurant on consecutive evenings. i.e. If your child orders lemonade on the first night, a lemonade will already be on the table for them upon arrival to evening dining the next night.
  • Disney Cruise Line serves Coke products.
  • Soda is free 24-hours a day at the soda stations on the pool deck.
  • Room service is quick and Mickey Ice Cream bars are the most popular item to order. We ordered them every night before bed.
  • Remy and Palo are great ‘date night’ options but do know that the food costs are extra and are not included in the Disney cruise fare .

Movies, Shows, and Celebrations

  • The evening shows are as amazing as everyone says. Do not miss one despite being tired at the end of the day. In my opinion, the evening shows are just as good, if not better, than versus Disney World !
  • Watching a movie in the Buena Vista Theater is a great way to take a break during a hot and sunny day.
  • The popcorn and snacks available outside of the movie theater are very tempting but do cost extra money (and are spendy!).
  • You can bring food from elsewhere on the ship (pizza, chicken strips, snacks, etc.) into the theater.
  • Every cruise has a pirate night and most people dress-up. A red pirate bandana is placed in your stateroom for each member of your party. If you don’t have a costume, wear the bandana somehow (hair tie, necktie, on your head, etc).
  • Kids love the self-guided Midship Detective Agency game that is available on the Disney Dream and Fantasy. There are two locations where you can start the game at a Detective Agency booth; Deck 2 near Enchanted Garden, and Deck 5 near “It’s a small world” nursery.
  • Make note of when the evening Captain’s Reception is and be sure to attend. Kids can attend too. (Adults are given a free alcoholic drink.)
  • Do not miss pre-booking a Disney Character VIP Breakfast during online check-in. Though it costs extra, it is well worth it! Kids can take photos with all of the Disney characters.
  • On the day of departure, be sure to attend the See Ya Real Soon Farwell party . It is awesome! (Strange how not many people attend, probably because they’re busy getting packed up.)

Castaway Cay on Disney private island.

Activities and Excursions

  • The pools on the cruise ship are not big and are mostly shallow. They are more like ‘wading pools’.
  • Long waits accumulate for the Aquaduck waterslide . Get in line 10-15 minutes before it opens each morning for little to no wait.
  • On port days, many announcements regarding shore excursions, etc. will be read via an overhead speaker system. Listen carefully as valuable information is shared, as well as when guests are required to return to the ship.
  • As you get off of the ship to spend the day on Castaway Cay (pronounced ‘key’), there will be beach towels to grab as you get off of the ship.
  • Purchase the Castaway Cay Getaway Package . It is well worth it. We found the bikes to be the best as there are family-friendly biking trails that take you around the entire island.

Disney Fantasy Cruise Tips: Departure

  • You have to place your suitcase out in the hallway the night before you get off of the ship. MAKE SURE you save out clothes to wear the next day as well as all of your carry-on and necessity items.
  • Bring a spare emergency credit card in case your company freezes yours (if seeing international charges).
  • Settle your on-board account the evening before departure. The line for doing so on the morning of departure gets very long.

Cost of a Disney Fantasy Cruise

Being a premium cruise line, Disney Cruise Line prices are higher than most mainstream cruises.

This is because the price is more all-inclusive of many on-board foods, amenities, and activities than what other cruise lines offer.

It is important to understand what is included in your Disney Cruise fare   in order to understand the charges and to comfortably budget for the final price.

How my family of 4 spent $10,000 on a Caribbean cruise — and what we'll cut next time even though we had a blast

  • My family of four splurged on a seven-night Caribbean cruise aboard the Disney Fantasy .
  • We stayed in an inexpensive class of stateroom, but paid $7,000+ to cruise during spring break.
  • We didn't watch our onboard spending and money spent on excursions, which quickly added up.

Insider Today

My family of four – my husband, two teens, and myself – sailed on the Disney Fantasy this spring. Our cruise was seven nights and left from Port Canaveral , Florida, near Orlando.

Our ship stopped in Grand Cayman, Falmouth, Jamaica, Cozumel, Mexico, and Disney's island, Castaway Cay . This was our first time sailing on the Fantasy and our ninth Disney cruise.

Our trip cost just over $10,000. Perhaps surprisingly, this is on par with the higher end of what a family can expect to spend on a seven-night Caribbean cruise: about $270 to $2,600 a person .

Here's a rough look at what we spent:

Cruise: $7,300 (includes interior room, meals, and entertainment)

Excursions: $1,160

Alcohol: $334

Bingo: $152

Here's the value we felt we got and what we might do differently next time.

We got the cheapest room type but would've saved by sailing at a different time of year

Even though we stayed in the cheapest stateroom category — interior cabins — our cruise was still pricey because we sailed during spring break.

We could've saved $3,000 on the cruise if we'd went in September, which is during hurricane season and while school is in session for our kids. In the end, we couldn't justify our sons missing that week of school.

Related stories

Sadly, there's not much getting around this cost in the next few years. It's hard for us to travel during cheaper times since cruises almost always cost more during spring break, summertime, and over the winter holidays when most kids are out of school.

I don't regret our WiFi or bingo budgets

We bought an intermediate WiFi package for $490 and spent $152 on bingo.

We don't usually spend money on WiFi while cruising, but decided to get a package since this was a longer sailing . This allowed my kids to play their online games at night and me to keep an eye on my inbox.

No one was glued to their device, and even though this was quite a chunk of change, I'd consider it again for a longer cruise like this one.

The bingo turned out to be an OK investment since we won $145 and almost broke even. We usually play at least one round of bingo and usually don't win much, but my kids enjoy it, and it's something we do as a family.

Still, excursions, spa treatments, and drinks added up

We booked excursions in Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Cozumel, and my husband and I had a couple's massage on the beach at Castaway Cay.

We didn't book super elaborate excursions, but costs added up for four people. Even so, I don't regret any of the experiences or the time spent with my family.

We could've cut back on our excursions budget by not booking directly with Disney Cruise Line or finding a spot to snorkel on our own, but I liked the ease and security of booking directly with the cruise line.

We've heard a lot of horror stories lately about cruise-ship passengers getting left behind in ports , and we always figure our odds are better if we're on an excursion arranged by the ship.

Next time, we might cut back on drinks and spa treatments

Since we're limited by when we can travel, we're honing in on alcohol and spa treatments as areas we can spend less money on.

We're not huge drinkers, but my husband and I enjoy having a glass of wine with our dinner and a couple of cocktails on deck or while lounging on the beach at Castaway Cay.

On future trips, we may cut back. When we looked at our bill, we saw that some of the wine we ordered was as much as $18.50 per glass!

And, as much as we loved the massages on the beach, they cost $289 a person (including automatic gratuity). Getting a massage in a beachside cabana while on vacation was super relaxing, but we can get massages at home for a fraction of that price.

Overall, we loved our cruise and have no regrets

The longer cruise with four ports of call was pricier than we realized, and we got a bit of sticker shock when we saw the final bill with our onboard extras.

I don't have any regrets since my family has always been more focused on experiences than stuff : We don't drive fancy cars or wear expensive clothes, but we prioritize nice vacations.

Although we know we need to curb the spending in a few areas and be a little more aware of what things cost when charging things to our room, we came away with fond memories that were worth every penny.

Disney Cruise Line reveals ship deployment plans for late 2025, early 2026

P ort Canaveral, Florida, will get to keep three Disney Cruise Line ships in late 2025 as the sailing plans for six of what will be eight ships in the fleet were revealed.

That includes Disney Treasure, set to debut this winter, and 2022’s Disney Wish as well as older ships Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy trading off sailing duties.

The new homeport and sailing plans for Disney Destiny, a sister ship to Wish and Treasure, were not announced, but they're slated to be delivered to the line at a yet-to-be-revealed date in 2025 and could end up at DCL’s new second Florida home in Port Everglades.

Also debuting in 2025 will be the Asia-bound Disney Adventure, but for now, DCL only revealed sailing plans for its two original ships, Magic and Wonder, its two decade-plus-old ships Dream and Fantasy and its two most recent ships, Wish and Treasure.

Port Canaveral will continue to host Wish sailing short three- and four-night Bahamas trips, while Treasure will continue with seven-night Caribbean sailings.

Disney Magic, which arrives to the port in summer 2025, will remain through October and then be replaced with Disney Fantasy in November, doing a four- and five-night set of itineraries through May 2026.

Wish, Magic and Fantasy all have some trips that visit Disney’s newest private Bahamas destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which welcomed first guests this month. Some sailings visit both Lookout Cay and the line’s original Bahamas private island, Castaway Cay.

Many of the September and October sailings will take on the popular Halloween on the High Seas theming while November and December sailings will have the Very Merrytime holiday theme.

Disney Magic has not sailed from Port Canaveral since 2016, and as the line’s oldest ship has been tasked with bouncing around the world for short-term stays at various markets. It will do so again after October, first heading to Puerto Rico for a series of seven-night Caribbean sailings, and then making its way to Galveston, Texas, for four- to seven-night western Caribbean trips through May 2026.

Disney Dream will keep sailing from its new year-round home in Port Everglades, which opened for business last fall. It will tackle three- to five-night Bahamas trips visiting either Lookout Cay, Castaway Cay or both, as well as some stops in Nassau through May 2026.

After a summer of Alaska sailings, Disney Wonder will continue its late 2025 duties in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, returning to the West Coast homeporting in San Diego beginning in March 2026 for three- and four-night Mexican Riviera sailings. This will be the third season Disney Wonder has sailed from Australia.

Bookings for the new itineraries open to the public June 28, with earlier dates available for the line’s variety of club-level members, but details can already be found on disneycruise.com.

Protesters with smoke bombs tackled after interrupting 72nd hole of 2024 Travelers Championship

Play was only delayed a matter of minutes in connecticut.

police-travelers.png

Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim approached the green on the 72nd hole of the 2024 Travelers Championship with the same goal: winning the final signature event of the PGA Tour season. Seconds later, their focus changed to avoiding a handful of protesters who charged the green with smoke bombs.

Police and security on the scene quickly contained the situation, tackling the protesters and removing them from the field of play as fans chanted "U-S-A" and "ass-hole."

Still, white and red powder remained on the green as Scheffler, Kim and Akshay Bhatia looked to complete their fourth rounds with rules officials deeming that play would continue despite the interruption and change to the surface.

PROTESTORS STORM THE 18TH AT TPC RIVER HIGHLANDS @NUCLRGOLF @PGATUOR @GolfDigest pic.twitter.com/JSjcYidOaR — TrackingScheffler (@SchefflerLegion) June 23, 2024

In total, the disruption only lasted a few of minutes with Scheffler's ensuing birdie putt landing within inches of the hole. Kim, who trailed by one stroke entering the expected final hole of the tournament, drained his birdie to force a playoff with Scheffler, a five-time PGA Tour winner already this season.

The PGA Tour determined that it was in the best interest of players and the event to cut a new hole for the playoff -- which started on that same 18th hole -- to avoid any lingering debris on the putting surface. Unfortunately for Kim, he could not keep his momentum going. He scored bogey in the playoff, while Scheffler won for the sixth time on the PGA Tour this season with a par.
