Best of Central Europe

It was my very first Intrepid trip and I enjoyed every moment of it. It was more than I expected! I loved the chemistry of the group (I miss them dearly), the accommodation location as well as the included activities. Being in a small group also has a lot of advantages like getting to know each of them personally and build friendships even after the trip. I was just so glad I took the trip through Intrepid!

I would have wanted the Rila Monastery included in the itinerary. Our tour leader, Vlad, was everything (and more) that one can ask for in a guide. It was evident that he was well-read about the history of the places we saw. He even included images to show in his talks. On a personal note, he made every effort to address each group member's questions and concerns in a friendly yet professional manner and go out of the way, if necessary, to attend to them. The local guides, Peter and Ibrahim, were likewise very knowledgeable in their particular areas.

The Best of Eastern Europe Tour

The Best of Eastern Europe

This was a great tour made wonderful by our tour guide Zdenka. She knew these countries so well, she wanted us to see everything possible and she made it happen! Our bus driver, Gaspy, kept us safe and on time. Would recommend this tour, you learn so much and the countries visited were so beautiful and welcoming. This is the first time that Globus gave us a couple small, quirky new hotels that were not comfortable. Please Globus stick to regular hotels that have great staff. if the hotels are far from city center please give us transportation there and back on our afternoons off whenever possible.

Wonderful way to see Europe. Staying 2 nights in most places gave us time to explore on our own. We had a great Tour Leader and Driver who made the trip so special. My absolute highlight was the UNESCO listed Wieliczka Salt Mine. It was an amazing experience that I never tire of telling people about.

Such a fun and alternative trip to take! We went to Prague, Poland, Budapest, and Austria. Even though it was one of the coldest weeks, our tour guide made it beyond enjoyable. She had so many suggestions of places to go and all were great. My favorite stop was Krakow, Poland, what a beautiful city and so much fun. I had an absolute blast while on this trips, the tour guide were energetic, fun, and knowledgeable, the trip was well run and flexible which I enjoyed, the company had optional activities set up for us which was nice to not feel pressured to do them if you wanted to explore on your own. The accommodations were always comfy and clean and the buses we took for all the trips were enjoyable and filled with fun movies to watch. I would highly recommend traveling with Euroadventures, their attention to detail, responsible yet fun guides, and flexible, activities filled schedule are all beyond worth it.

What people love about eastern europe tours.

To be honest, part of what made the trip fantastic was our group of 12- could not have had a better group to travel with- which is clearly luck, but a piece of our group being so cohesive was Nejca, our guide. She was perfect! Available but not pushy. Laid back, but willing to assert herself to make our experience the best. She made each person in the group feel special and appreciated. Thank you, Nejca! The itinerary was quite good as well. Although there were places I could have stayed for a day longer, I think it’s important to not stay too long and feel like time is wasted on a certain place on the tour. Transportation was efficient and Nejca did a great job getting us to our destinations easily and without rushing. Accommodations were very good- with the exception of Prague. Although our apartment was nice, it was clear that the residents of Prague feel that their space is being taken over by tourists- which is clearly true. I would have preferred to have stayed in a hotel in Prague-honestly, I would have paid more for it. Other than that, cannot day enough good things about the trip! Thank you!!
Wonderful cities, well-organised, and great value. Shout out to our guide, Jacob, who was as informative and professional as you'd expect, but also adaptable when things out of his control were going wrong (traffic, weather, etc.) And the driver, Nathan, who was always helpful and reliable - almost like a second tour guide.

Day 1 (Mon) Frankfurt – Prague  (~530km) (No Meal) After boarding the luxury coach in Frankfurt , sit back and enjoy a scenic ride through some classic German countryside en route to the Czech Republic. Prague , one of Europe’s most ornate cities, is your first destination. You will arrive in the evening, ready to discover this charming capital city with its fairytale architecture, the following morning. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Prague or city nearby

Day 2 (Tue) Prague -  Bratislava (~330km) (Breakfast) Your Prague adventure begins with a spectacular walk along the Royal Route , following the traditional coronation path of the kings and queens of old Bohemia. You’ll start from the top of Castle Hill in the Hradcany district, famous for its views over the red-roofed old city, and then tour Prague Castle . The castle has been the historic seat of Bohemia royalty since the 9th century, as well as home to the nation’s presidents in recent times. Your exploration then heads off around the imposing gothic St. Vitus Cathedra, the Old Royal Palace , St. George’s Basilica and along Golden Lane , an ancient thoroughfare lined with some wonderful traditional buildings. Later you will stroll across the iconic Charles Bridge , which arches gracefully over the Vltava, and on through the winding alleys to the Old Town Square , where you can see the City Hall and one of Prague’s most well-known sights, the Astronomical Clock . After lunch in the square, you will make the scenic transfer from Prague to the Slovakian capital, Bratislava – home to another glorious Old Town. Here you will pass through the heart of the city by coach, with views of the magnificent Bratislava Castle and St. Martin´s Cathedral . - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Bratislava or city nearby

Day 3 (Wed) Bratislava  -  Budapest (~200km) (Breakfast)  Arrive in Hungary, the fourth country of the tour. Its capital, Budapest, is known as the Pearl of the Danube, and is essentially two different cities joined together: Buda on the west of the river, Pest on the east, each with its own distinct characteristics. One of the best ways of seeing this unique location is by taking a river cruise, which many people choose to do. After a morning of activity, you will relax over lunch at Buda Palace , and then have a chance to look at the exhibitions in the Budapest History Museum and Hungarian National Gallery , or do a spot of souvenir shopping. Next you will explore both sides of the city on a cultural and historic tour. Highlights on the Buda side of the Danube include the towered terrace of Fisherman’s Bastion , the medieval Matthias Church and a walk up to the summit of Gellért Hill for panoramic views. While over in Pest the sights include the expansive Heroes’ Square and Hungary’s dramatic riverside Parliament Building . In the evening, you can choose to round off an eventful day with an optional dinner in the heart of Budapest, where you can sample traditional dishes such as goose liver, goulash, duck leg and local wine, accompanied by Hungarian folkdance and music. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Budapest or city nearby

Day 4 (Thu) Budapest  -  Vienna (~250km) (Breakfast)

Today starts with a short journey to another of Europe’s grand capitals, Vienna, where you’ll get to explore the Austrian city’s resplendent palaces, striking churches and prestigious art museums. Your Vienna adventure begins at one of the city’s most popular attractions, Schönbrunn Palace , the Rococo-style summer residence of the Habsburg dynasty, rulers of Europe and the Church for many decades. After lunch in this refined setting, you will take a driving tour past many grand, famous buildings, including the City Hall , the Austrian Parliament , Hofburg Palace and Heroes’ Square . In the afternoon, you have some shopping time, before adding the Wiener Staatsoper (opera house) to your checklist of key Vienna buildings. Later, opt for dinner in the heart of the city or visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral , before taking a stroll in Stadtpark, which is known for its range of sculptures, including the famous gilded bronze statue of Johann Strauss II . In the evening, we recommend the option of attending a Viennese waltz concert , which will allow you the unforgettable experience of hearing the music of Mozart and Strauss in the place where it was composed. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Vienna or city nearby

Day 5 (Fri) Vienna - Mondsee  -  Munich (~440km) (Breakfast)  From Vienna it’s on to another Austrian gem, Mondsee. Mondsee is a town located on the shore of the Lake Mondsee . The town is home to the historic medieval Mondsee Abbey . The cloister church was used for the site of the wedding in The Sound of Music. After lunch you will continue to cross the German border to Munich. After arriving in Munich, you'll visit the Marienplatz and the New Town Hall . Marienplatz is a central square in the city centre of Munich since 1158. The New Town Hall is at the northern part of Marienplatz It hosts the city government including the city council, offices of the Mayors and part of the administration since 1874 or you can enjoy a German beer in one of the beer gardens before going back to the hotel. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Munich or city nearby

Day 6 (Sat) Munich  - Vadus -  Mt Titlis  -  Lucerne  -  Zurich (~505km) (Breakfast)  You’ll leave the big cities behind today. Before you head for one of the world’s most famous mountain ranges – the Swiss Alps – you will make a photo stop in one of the smallest countries in Europe – Liechtenstein . The small picturesque city Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein with little boutique shops and the famous Huber shop for all your fine jewelry and watches.  The next destination is Engelberg , the stunning Swiss resort. From here you can opt to board a cable car that takes you to the summit of the impressive Mount Titlis . To reach the top of the permanently snow-covered Mt. Titlis you take three different gondolas. You’ll ascend the last stage by the world’s first revolving gondola, the Titlis Rotair , which delivers spectacular views of the valleys, glaciers, lakes and forests below, and 360˚ vistas of the surrounding mountains. At the summit the sun terrace is the perfect place to pause and appreciate the breath-taking panoramas. Other highlights include walking across Europe’s highest suspension bridge for more phenomenal views from Mt. Titlis. Your next destination is Lucerne . Lucerne is a picturesque city of bridges and towers located in what many people believe to be the “true” Switzerland – picture-postcard Mountains, lakes, cowbells, Alpine villages and meadows full of edelweiss flowers. Here you will have time to wander through the charming streets, and see the famous Lion Monument, which Mark Twain once described as “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world”. This is a great place to get souvenirs like Swiss watches and fine chocolates, before travelling to the overnight stop of Zurich. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Zurich or city nearby

Day 7 (Sun) Zurich  -  Rhein Falls  -  Titisee  -  Frankfurt (~450km) (Breakfast) The final day of the tour begins in Zurich, a city with a reputation as a leading global financial centre. There is chance for a picture stop at the impressive Lake Zurich , before moving on to Rhine Falls , Europe’s biggest waterfall. Next you will cross back into Germany and the Black Forest , the ancient fir-covered mountain range which is famous for its creepy folklore and mythical tales. Here you will see the beautiful Lake Titisee , where you can stop at one of the many lakeside cafés to enjoy some of the region’s best Black Forest cherry gateaux. Cuckoo clocks are made in Titisee, making this the ideal place to pick up a few souvenirs from the local shops and you’ll also get to see a demonstration of how these magical mechanisms work. You will head back to Frankfurt, where for some members of the group it will be time to say goodbye to new-found friends, while others will opt to stay another night in this major German city before picking up the Red Line tour the next day.

Day 1 (Sat) Paris -  Lucerne (~650km) (No Meal) After boarding the luxury coach in Paris, sit back and enjoy a scenic journey across classic French countryside en route to mountainous Switzerland.  You’ll pass through Basel, which is located at the point where the Swiss, French and German borders meet, before arriving at the picturesque lakeside city of Lucerne, nestled at the foot of the snowcapped Swiss Alps. Here you’ll get a chance to shop or take pictures. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Lucerne or city nearby

Day 2 (Sun) Lucerne - Milan - Venice (~400km) (Breakfast) Head to south from Lucerne through spectacular Switzerland and into northern Italy, where your first stop will be Milan , fashion capital of the world. Your orientation tour will introduce you to the city’s iconic sights, including the vast Gothic cathedral (Duomo) . You’ll also see the planet’s oldest shopping mall, the 19th-century Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II , where you can wander among the boutique shops and have lunch in one of the refined cafes. After enjoying the many delights of Milan, you’ll head to another vintage Italian city: Venice. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Venice Island or city nearby

Day 3 (Mon) Venice - Rome (~550km) (Breakfast) Spend the morning with the local guide as you explore Venice, the most magical of cities. Begin with a waterbus ride to San Marco Island , a memorable crossing of the lagoon that gives you a real taste of the city’s charm as you approach the dreamy spires and distinctive waterside buildings. Once on the island you will be led around some of Venice’s best-known locations, beginning in the Piazzo with the Basilica di San Marco , a stunning piece of Byzantine architecture.  You will also see the legendary Bridge of Sighs , which appears on many a postcard or picture of Venice and connects the old prison to the interrogation rooms in the Doge’s Palace .  Afterwards you will have a chance to see some traditional Venetian craftwork at close quarters with a demonstration by Murano glassblowers ; their exquisite creations make excellent souvenirs. Of course, the ultimate Venice activity is to ride through the warren of waterways on a gondola, and for most people this optional excursion is a must. Step aboard, relax and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Transfer to Rome in the afternoon. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Rome or city nearby

Day 4 (Tue) Rome - Vatican - Arezzo (~280km) (Breakfast) Your day in Rome starts with a visit to the smallest country in the world, The Vatican City , which lies at the heart of the Italian capital. Here you will marvel at St Peter’s Basilica , home to Pope Francis and arguably the most significant site in Christianity.  The exquisitely beautiful Basilica has been present here for almost 1,700 years and contains a bewildering collection of paintings, frescoes and design crafted by some of humanity’s most famous artists, which you can explore.  Alternatively you can choose to add on the optional Sistine Chapel tour to view Michelangelo’s famous painted ceiling. Next you will see the famous Coliseum , built in AD 72, a highly recommended must-see destination in Rome. History comes to life as you imagine yourself witnessing gladiatorial combat inside the spectacular Amphitheatre , or alternatively you can walk at your leisure around the outside to admire the facade of this ancient wonder. After the Coliseum, get up close to the nearby Arch of Constantine , which dates back to the fourth century AD, then spend some further free time enjoying Rome, sampling the rich and creamy delights of “gelato” Italian ice cream. - Accommodation: 3* hotel in Arezzo or city nearby

Day 5 (Wed) Arezzo - Florence - Pisa - Genoa nearby city (~250km) (Breakfast)  Your voyage of cultural discovery continues as you get to know Florence, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and home to some fabulous architecture and fine art.
