eto jobs on cruise ships

Careers At Sea

Engineering & electro-technical officer, engineering officer.

As an Engineering Officer, you operate and maintain all the mechanical and electrical equipment on board the ship. You’ll be responsible for power generation and distribution, lifts, refrigeration plant, pumping and ventilation systems.

Using a bank of high-tech instrumentation, you’ll monitor hydraulic and control equipment, and take charge of sophisticated engine management. There will be many opportunities to put your engineering problem-solving skills to the ultimate test. After all, at sea, if something goes wrong you can’t just pull in to the nearest garage. It will be up to you to diagnose the fault, get the equipment dismantled, repaired, reassembled and back into operation.

Once you’re a Senior Engineering Officer, you’ll lead and supervise a team of professional engineering personnel at sea and in port. You can then set your sights on the top position in the engineering department – Chief Engineer.

Electro-Technical Officer

As an Electro-Technical Officer (often abbreviated to ETO) you’ll maintain a wide range of complex onboard electronic and electrical equipment. Look forward to regularly dealing with technical challenges and equipment as diverse as the main electric generation plant and electronic communication systems.

As well as making good use of your maintenance skills, you’ll monitor all electrical equipment onboard to maximise the operational safety and efficiency of the vessel.

Right now the Electro-Technical Officer role is fairly new. So depending on the company and the type of ship, it might play a significant part at Junior and Senior Officer levels. While on other vessels it’s not such a big requirement and may be part of Engineering Officers’ jobs.

Career of Electro Technical Officer on Ship

Having chosen a marine career (good choice!) as your field of work, here is some information to help make your search wider. You are determined to find a job at sea then we offer you a suitable option for that- an electro technical officer.

An electro technical officer is one of the most important people on a vessel, especially when it comes to his/her expertise of handling electrical equipment of the vessel.

For those who are interested in maritime jobs , a ship officer handling the electrical supervision of the vessel can be a suitable career choice. As an electro technical officer, your main duty would be to ensure functioning and maintenance of electrical equipments on vessel.

Electro Technical Officer

What does an electro technical officer do?

An electro technical officer handles several responsibilities on vessel mainly related to electrical systems. Like most jobs at sea, as a ship officer handling electronics on a vessel, you are most likely to work under a chief engineer who supervises everything on a ship. And while under a chief engineer, your ship jobs would include the following things.

  • Maintenance and working of electrical equipments on board
  • Working of electrical parts like engine rooms, radio communications, electronic navigation needs like echo sounders, Gyro compass, Weather Fax, auto pilot, RADAR system , Broadcast and internal aerial system, telephone and talk back system and satellite communications
  • Look into basic electric needs like refrigeration , bridge systems and control rooms
  • Maintenance of emergency systems including emergency switches, fire alarms and detectors
  • Vessel’s electrical components like navigational lights , battery backups and electrically operated propelling machinery
  • Assist chief officer in handling routine works especially related to electrical handling
  • Coordinate work with on shore technicians
  • During emergencies, an electrical officer plays important role like every other ship officer. You would be required to handle the emergency situations and ensure all the equipment needed for safety is always ready
  • An electro technical officer looks into electrical and technical aspects on a vessel. Hence working of computer controlled machinery would be supervised by an ETO.
  • An electrical officer is immensely important on cruise ships and passenger vessels which have huge electrical requirements and unmanned technology handling them. Everything from refrigeration to air conditioning on such vessels would come under your supervision as an electro technical officer.

What are the knowledge and skills needed to be an ETO?

An ETO can be seen as a higher version of anelectrical officer. The qualifications and qualities needed to become an ETO are

  • A foundation degree in electrical/engineering/electrical engineering/marine engineering  field
  • An electrical engineering degree- a minimum Bachelor’s level qualification
  • Electro technical training like STCW 95 basic safety training course including fire fighting, fire prevention, elementary first aid course training
  • ENG1’ seafarer’s medical certificate and/or certification for physical and mental fitness
  • Training for handling electrical, navigational and communication equipment
  • A course in Electro Technical engineering (optional but not necessary but may come as an added advantage)
  • As Per New STCW-2010 Manila amendments, Elector technical officer has to obtain certificate of competency from Maritime Authorities  by applying for exams conducted by them.

Besides a simple Bachelor’s degree in engineering, as an aspirant of an ETO post, you can also take up additional short term diploma courses of full Bachelor’s courses dealing with electro technical handling and maintenance. Besides these qualifications, for a person seeking careers at sea, you must possess following qualities too.

  • Physical strength to handle heavy duty on board work
  • Mental fitness
  • Ability to stay away from family for long intervals
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to handle practical situations
  • Independent decision making capacity
  • Task prioritization and organization
  • Ability to keep calm and not panic under emergency situations
  • To be able to work under a senior while maintaining a team of your own
  • Flair for circuits and wires ( a must)

What is tentative remuneration?

Like most jobs at sea, the salary of an ETO greatly varies with the experience you own, the kind of responsibilities you handle and the rank that you work on. However, even with so many variables, ETO remains a highly paying job among all careers at sea. As an ETO, you can expect a salary of $3000 to $5400 per month. Those working on bigger cruise ships can expect even up to $10000 per month depending on the size of the cruise ship and the duties handled.

The biggest advantage with this particular option among all maritime jobs is that it is a new field. Since electrical aspect and IT on vessels has combined on recently, not many people have been duly trained to handle them both together. With increasing need for such people, there are immense opportunities for people to make use of their knowledge and skills. Work handled by an electrical officer now needs expertise of an ETO now. Considering that, it seems viable that this option among all marine careers should be seen as a highly lucrative choice by most mariners.

You forgot to mention there is no promotion available for this kind of officer,so no salary increase during your life time as others do.

@ Martin: Yes. This post does not have any promotion aspects but there will be salary rise as per the industry standards but not like engineers or deck officers who will be getting salary as per their promotion.

Electrical Officer is most degraded Job on Merchant Vessel .He undertakes job may be slightly less than an oiler.Full career he is doing operational level unlike the other engineer who barely know Electrical /Electronic sits on top as Chief Engineer .The present Manila amendments dosen’ do anything good for the Electrical officer .The designation changed and more lengthy process to get struck in that job .So I would say that Electrical Officer /ETO doesn’t offer a career progression. So aspiring person who like to join Merchant navy look for a Mariner Engineer ladder and not Electrical ladder .

Sir may i joine E.T.O ,iam B.Tech Electronics communication Engineering please explaine about ability and qualification

ETO are the best when it comes to electrical troubleshooting and prevention of damages. Unlikely chief engineers hiding problems until someone get injured or the damage is too big to be handled simply because they don’t want to show their weakness in competence and do not understand in full the electrical theory. ETO should take major decisions onboard on the electrical side in agreement with chief engineer and not being subordinate, that’s why he is onboard. It will be always too late until IMO recognize that ETO carrier is no different from the engineers career because the have the same technical background and study and spend the same time at sea!!!!!

do not take ETO route: they pay you next to nothing, expect you to troubleshoot every system that is moved by signals/sdensors/electrons ….on board with no help whatsoever. You are left alone.

and then dump you like a garbage when the technology progresses and they will double the systems like on an aircraft to cut costs on wages.

believe me, shipping industry is very very short sighted, and least considerate to the human being

exemple of technological redundancy is th on board Radio Officers. Those technicians were very qualified in electronics, and the industry did not manage to retrain by simply update a little with the high voltage electrical systems/generators in the engine room and some CPU controllers update.

I am current ETO officer that knows what he is talking about.

Good luck and choose a shore based industry.

@Dickson: You need to apply for a 4 months E.T.O course as you are eligible with the given background.

Dear Career makers !!!

today’s date much more job shortage and cadets are comes in this merchant navy line, special ETO,GME Batches, don’t joint merchant navy career. The Bachelor & post graduated holders are comes to here with much more career hopes & they are also invested lots of money in this line, sometimes for middle class family that much of money is not affordable, but due to fake agents easily traps to aspirants/students regards job prospectus & unnecessarily agents also takes money from it. also agents are gives much more sailing waiting period for that cadet, those gay’s whose expended total money & age of career.

HI, can I join cruise ships after completing ETO course and not container ships… I finished my EEE in engineering. Also which is the best collg in South India to join ETO course? What is the career scope after 3years in this field?

Helo sir iam working as a assistant refrigeration engineer in cruise ship i have 9 years in this field is that possible to to do eto caurce i did air conditioning and refrigeration diploma caurce

@Chiranjeevi: Cruise ship companies will only take experienced ETOs. It will be difficult to get into a cruise shipping company. You will be joining as a trainee ETO and post 3 years you will be working as Sr. ETO.

In case of eto will they get the salary promotion according to their experience

Can an eto become chief engineer

@Nidheesh: No, he/she cannot. However, an ETO can shift to engine department by applying for Class IV exams to become a 4th engineer. After that, you can proceed on a career of a marine engineer to become chief engineer.

You will be joining as Trainee ETO and after a certain experience, you will be promoted to ETO. ETO is the only and the highest position on the ship for an electrical officer.

I’m from the field of Instrumentation and control engineering. Is it possible for me to undertake ETO course?

@Kavin: Yes, You can.

May cousin is a license electrical engineer on the vessel. It is posible he is apply for to be a captain of the ship? Even he ddnt study a marine transportion course but he has working as a ETO. In merchant vessel. Thnx in advance if ever you ever you answering my question

Is doing ETO course a good option for a long term ?

@Manoj: entirely depend on your career interest. even if you become successful ETO, but do not enjoy the job, I will not consider it as a long term option. Practically, the job market is yet to improve for a new joiner (be it engineer, deck officer or electrical engineer)

@Louis: No, he cannot.

Hello I am nitin grover, basically from india. Currently pursuing MBA in Canada. I have taken bachelors of electronics and communication in 2010. After that i have 2 years experience in translink metro as project engineer in india. Then i joined merchant navy as electrical officer for 5 years with reputed company. Further i moved to Canada for higher studies. I have done ETO course from india and STCW courses. Now i am looking for shipping jobs in canada. Can someone guide me how and where can i apply for job in shipping industry to continue my career in same field in canada.

Regards Nitin

Which institute is better for eto according to you ? which give 100% placement after complextion? Eligibility creteria of eto?

Sir, I have 2 years job experience in DG systems …will it help me to get high pay job if I go for merchant Navy course now?

@Saurabh: You need to have a CDC to get a job on the ship. Also, you need to fulfill the age criteria too. Looking at the job market, it is very difficult for a fresh marine engineer or deck officer to get job on ship.

I want to join Trainee ETO AT cruise ship. Is it a better option than Cargo ship . What are the salary of ETO on cruise.

Sir I got 67% in 12 but in PCM only 48 % and completed b.tech in electronics instrumentation with 65 % so I am eligible or not. And in maths 33% in 12th.

@Athrav: If you want to pursue an ETO career, you can enter with your b.tech degree.

@Ahamad Khan: It will be extremely difficult to get a trainee job on a cruise ship. You need to complete your training in a cargo ship. For entry-level, there ain’t any difference.

sir I’m completed grd after completion of eto course u will provide 100% placement for me.or give me suggestions how to get placement as traine ero

Sir I completed my diploma in EEE 3 years course with 74%. Now I want to join in marian as eto. So I have to complete the 4 months course in eto . What is the fee for 4monts course.

@Harish: You are eligible to join the 4 months ETO course to become a certified ETO and work on the ship. The fee may vary depending upon the college/ institution and may go up to INR 3,00,000 /-

Sir i have completed diploma in EE 3years can i join the Eto course…. I have called a lot of colleges all are saying degree is needed to join the eto course

@Prajjal: HIMT Chennai does accept diploma as per their eligibility requirement. Google search HIMT ETO for more details

How much can we earn after completion of ETO course …

sir i have completed b.e in electrical engineering. my age is 31 i wants to join merchant navy as eto. is there would be any problem about age in future for permotion. and which college is better for placement. what about the placement in tmc shipping college after eto course….

Kullai: Depends on the company you join. As you will be joining as trainee ETO first, you will be earning USD 200-500.

Hi I am IT I fitter also done apprentice ship Nctvt ship repair companies I have indian cdc with stew certificate. How can I get job in marchant navy.

Sir after the eto course how do i get the job in the ship

I done ETO Course Secured with 68% I Went Bombay to search job around 2 Months I stayed there went around 80+ Companies Reputed companies are not hiring fresher and some companies are asking Money…I don’t have money to pay them.. I’m feel depressed now I wanted to move on field job it’s better to move or I can barrow money and pay to agents to get job in Marine filed… Guid me plz sir…

Hello, I’m still a student taking Bs Electrical Engineering. I found this ETO career very interesting. Is it possible for a fresh grad student to be an ETO? or do I still need an onboard experience first?

@Ajay: The seafaring industry is going through a hard time in terms of jobs and freshers are most hard hit by it. The wise option would be to find an alternative job for the time being and continue searching for the ETO jobs side by side.

Yey: You need an onboard experience as Trainee ETO along with Certificate of Competency for ETO.

Sir, i hv completed diploma in mechatronics .. am i eligible for ETO Course

@Navin: Yes, you are.

Sir which is good eto college other than AEMA, TMI, anad GEIMS?

@Anubhav: That institute which is giving sponsorship for the training.

Sir, I completed my b.tech in EEE and have an experience of 3 years in my field. Now i wanted to switch so i thought of joinining eto course. will it be helpful? Am i going to get any benefit of my experience? Or getting a sponsorship will make any difference?

@Sandeep”” You are eligible to join the ETO course. Your experience will help you understand the field. Sponsorship is important looking at the current job scenario as freshers are not getting jobs and they are kept in waiting for more than a year to get the ship experience.

Sir, i have completed my 12th with 50% and diploma in electronic and telecomm with 75% and BE in electronic and telecomm( with a gap year with 55 % am i eligible for the ETO course ? And if yes what are the job prospect after completing the course ?

@Tanmay: Yes, you are eligible academically for the ETO course.

Hye, i had finish my study in bachelor marine in electric and electronic tech.. and i have a cert ssa, bt, btoct, dsd, and bsom.. what type of ship can i joint? And can u suggest a best company for me to start my new job? 🙂

@Nassie: You also need to do basic STCW training courses. You can join any type of ship which needs ETO on ships.

Hai sir i completed my diploma in electronics and communication engineering i eligible for eto course ?

@Arjun: Yes, you are eligible.

Most Filipino Electro Technical Officers are actually Electrical Engineers and Electronic Communication Engineers But before we can get certified as Electro Technical Officer at MARITIME INDUSTRY AUTHORITY here in Philippines, They require a lot of training’s for ETO. WAKE UP ALL ETO, We are educated during our college degrees, we studied Bachelor of Science in Engineering, we studied a lot from Electrical Engineering but these does not credit on our Marine Profession. And what sucks most even English course are included for the very expensive training’s , why won’t they evaluate and compare ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CURRICULUM to lessen the gap in marine electrical profession. We already studied controls and instrumentation, motor design, electrical designs, programmable logic control and etc. We studied Electrical Engineering for Five years and our diploma and License as Engineers must be credited on board.

sir which good carer between eto and g.m.e or fourth engneer

Sir I have completed 4 months eto training from BP MARINE Belapur Any vacancies for Trainee ETO??

@Swarajkumar: We are not into job palcement or assistance.

I’m a building electrician for 3years…and I’m interested to be an ETO.. can I take it?

If you have a degree or diploma, than you can pursue ETO course.

sir i’ve a degree in electrical and electronics eng. what should i do next if i have to pursue this career

You need to take courses for STCW certification. Few institute provides training to get the required qualification.

Sir, I have C&G levels 1,2 &3 respectively in Electrical Engineering.

Can put in for ETO.?

I have done my B. Tech in 2012 and my age is 30 Can I join marchant navy as eto

The Age limit for the ETO course is-35 years…Yes you can.

Yes, you can.

Romeeta – 3rd Electro-Technical Officer

eto jobs on cruise ships

As the first Indian ETO (Electro-Technical Officer) on board Britannia, Romeeta is a proud role model for women in maritime.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m from a close-knit family of four and live in Mumbai, India.

Before joining the Carnival UK maritime team I worked for four years as an ETO on cargo ships responsible for all electrical and electronics equipment, power management system, control and automation system, marine and deck safety equipment, lighting system, along with refrigeration and ventilation.

I also worked as a electrical superintendent for two years involved more in daily electrical support, navcom support and I was handling an LED project where I had 64 vessels to manage.

eto jobs on cruise ships

How does your job on Britannia compare to your previous roles?

Life is completely different! Here the Electro-Technical team is part of a bigger technical team which itself is a dream team to work with. Compared to cargo, cruise ships are huge so there’s much more equipment and machinery spaces.

I love the way my team support me for my betterment and improvement each day. Every day is different and there’s always something new to learn here.

What are you responsible for as 3rd ETO?

I maintain the crew and guest lift system through daily inspections and i’m also responsible for maintenance and testing of the fire detection system – we have lots of sensors installed at different locations as it’s an important part of the safety system onboard .

I also support the 2nd ETO Marine, 2nd ETO Hotel and 2nd ETO Engine with tasks and they support me with my learning and development.

I’ve always wanted to work on a cruise ship and was so thankful I got this opportunity.

What’s your proudest career moment?

When I got to know from my team on Britannia that I am the first Indian ETO; that was really a proud moment for me and it also shows the company is making sure everyone has an equal opportunity.

eto jobs on cruise ships

Why did you want to work for Carnival UK Maritime?

P&O Cruises and Cunard are two of the best cruise lines in the cruise industry. I can say they treat everyone equally, the work culture is so nice and you never feel alone in the team – line managers are always ready to help and guide and listen to your concerns and support you.

I feel Britannia now is my second home. I am really proud and lucky to be part of the CUK family.

W hat’s it like being a female in maritime?

When I was sailing as ETO on cargo vessels people judged me on the basis of my gender. The workload for an ETO on cargo ships is physically and mentally very challenging so I had to push myself more to prove my abilities.

However on Britannia everybody has been so welcoming and supportive and I’ve always felt part of the team.

eto jobs on cruise ships

Do you have any advice for someone starting out in the same career as yo u?

Be prepared to challenge yourself each day to grow in this field. And once you are in an ETO career always remember; “Never be afraid of electricity, but do always respect electricity”.

What’s your favourite port?

Southampton; that’s the best port for me as I joined my first cruise vessel from this port. There’s also a wonderful Indian restaurant I always visit!

What do you do to unwind and look after your wellbeing and mental health?

I love reading books which relaxes my mind. Onboard Britannia we have really good library where you can sit and read a lot of books and spend your time well. I also work out for 30/40 mins each day which keeps my body and mental fitness well – we have super cool gyms onboard. And I do play indoor games like table tennis and foosball.

Do you have any favourite moments from living and working on a ship?

My first team dinner at the Glass House Restaurant. It was so special because I was able to get to know everyone more.

What makes a #GoodDayAtSea?

When at the end of the day you can say it was a productive day and you learnt something new. I’m really looking forward to progressing my career with Carnival UK Maritime.

How to apply for Cruise Ships? | Guide to become an Officer on Cruise Ships

  • By Praneet Mehta
  • September 21, 2023

What is a Cruise Ship?

A cruise ship is like a floating hotel and vacation resort on the water. It’s a massive ship designed for people to have a relaxing and enjoyable time while travelling to various destinations.

On a cruise ship, you’ll find comfortable rooms, restaurants, entertainment like shows and games, pools, and even shops. You can think of it as a fun and convenient way to explore different places while having all the amenities you need on board. If you want to be a part of this amazing career then you are in for a treat as we discuss how to join the Cruise Ship as an Officer.

How to Join the Cruise Ship as an Officer?

Joining a cruise ship can be an exciting career choice, and there are two common routes to get started.

  • Applying Offline

Firstly, you can apply offline through certified agencies approved by cruise companies. These agencies specialize in connecting aspiring crew members with the right opportunities.

  • Applying Online

Secondly, many cruise lines offer the convenience of online applications directly through their websites. You can also explore job listings and connect with recruiters on platforms like LinkedIn to find your perfect cruise ship job.

Steps to Join Cruise Ship

  • Step 1: Complete your educational qualifications, such as DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science)/ BSc in Nautical Science or GME / B.Tech in Marine Engineering.
  • Step 2: Gain practical experience by completing a cadetship program.
  • Step 3: Successfully clear the MEO examination which is in itself a tough nut to crack that’s why we have MEO Class packages so that you can clear your exams in one go.

  • Step 4: Begin your job search by applying online through cruise companies’ websites or via LinkedIn.
  • Step 5: Prepare for a HireVue or video-based interview as part of the initial screening process.
  • Step 6: Undergo a Vienna Testing Scheme assessment to evaluate your skills and compatibility with the role.
  • Step 7: Attend an HR interview to discuss your qualifications and aspirations.
  • Step 8: Proceed to a final interview with a fleet engineer or a higher-ranking officer.
  • Step 9: Successfully pass the medical examination as the final step in the recruitment process.

Why Should ETO Join Cruise Ships?

An Electrical Technical Officer (ETO) should consider joining a cruise ship because the salary offered in this role is often equivalent to what one might earn on an LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carrier.

Furthermore, Senior ETOs can earn upto the salary of a Chief Engineer on board. This competitive compensation, coupled with the opportunity to work in a vibrant and dynamic environment, makes a career on a cruise ship an appealing choice for skilled ETOs seeking both financial stability and professional growth.

Benefits of Joining Cruise

Party on a Cruise Ship

Joining a cruise ship as part of the crew offers a range of unique benefits that go beyond just a paycheck. Here are some compelling advantages:

1. Higher Salary and Contract Flexibility: Cruise ship crew often enjoy a higher salary than their land-based counterparts. The typical 4-month contract, followed by 2-3 months off, allows for extended vacation time and personal pursuits.

2. Flexibility in Sign-Off: Crew members can delay their sign-off with a valid reason or even make a request to join a specific ship or sign off earlier, providing a level of flexibility not often found in other careers.

3. Port Visits and Travel Opportunities: More port visits mean more shore leave and the chance to explore diverse destinations. It’s a dream come true for those who love to travel, although it’s balanced with watch duty responsibilities.

4. Multicultural Environment: Working on a cruise ship means interacting with people from all over the world. It’s a great opportunity to learn about different cultures and forge lifelong friendships.

5. Vibrant Social Life: Cruise ships are like floating communities, with lots of crew members and tourists onboard. This lively atmosphere means parties, gatherings, and a happening social scene. There’s even a dedicated crew bar and lounge for unwinding.

6. Culinary Delights: The food on board is often of a high standard, with options ranging from continental to Indian cuisine. Officers may enjoy complimentary meals in the officer mess, while crew members may have access to special crew mess restaurants.

7. Medical and Insurance Benefits: Cruise ship companies typically offer robust medical benefits and insurance policies to ensure the well-being of their crew members.

8. Varied Work Environment: Crew members get to work with a variety of machinery and technology, providing valuable skills and experience.

9. Connectivity and Internet: While internet usage may incur a charge, the availability of social media and good internet speed helps crew members stay connected with loved ones.

10. Work Hours and Interactions: The working hours can be demanding, often involving 10-hour shifts with no Sundays or traditional holidays off. Crew members also need to maintain a professional demeanour when interacting with guests.

In sum, joining a cruise ship offers not just a job but a lifestyle rich in unique experiences, personal growth, and opportunities to connect with people from all walks of life. It’s a career choice that promises adventure, camaraderie, and the chance to see the world while earning a living.

Drawbacks of Joining Cruise Ship

Limited Opportunities for Indian Officers: The cruise ship industry historically had fewer opportunities for Indian officers, which could limit career advancement.

Dominance of Italian Influence: Some cruise lines may have a strong Italian influence in their management, potentially affecting the diversity of the workforce.

Slower Promotion and Savings: Advancement and savings potential can be slower in the cruise ship industry compared to other maritime careers, affecting financial growth.

During the Russian river cruise you will not only visit the two largest cities of Russia, but also small towns and villages along the route and you will have a chance to participate in master classes, learn a little Russian language and dive into local Russian culture and hospitality. For those who prefer custom-made programs and more free time in the cities of their choice we recommend a land tour, both are excellent options. To find out more about the differences click here .

Cruise ship worker accused of attacking, stabbing people with scissors on board vessel

FILE -- The Norwegian Encore is docked at downtown Juneau, Alaska, on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022.

JUNEAU, Alaska ( KTUU /Gray News) - A South African citizen was arrested by the FBI in Juneau Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed a cruise ship passenger and several employees who attempted to stop him.

A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Alaska said 35-year-old Ntando Sogoni was employed on the Norwegian Cruise Lines ship Encore and was observed by other staff attempting to launch one of the ship’s lifeboats. He was then taken by security to the ship’s medical facility for an evaluation.

In the medical center, Sogoni reportedly physically attacked a nurse and a security guard. He then allegedly entered an examination room, grabbed a pair of medical scissors and attacked a woman receiving treatment, stabbing her in the arms, hand and face. When two security guards intervened, the court documents allege he stabbed one in the head and one in the back.

Once he was under authority’s control, Sogoni was held in the ship’s jail before being taken into custody and being charged with assault with a deadly weapon in maritime and territorial jurisdiction. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A federal district judge will determine the total sentencing.

Court documents say that the employee had just joined the ship’s crew at its Seattle port of call on May 5. The incident occurred approximately 16.5 miles from Vancouver Island. There is no word on whether the incident has delayed the ship or on the condition of those hurt.

The FBI Anchorage Field Office and FBI Juneau Resident Agency, and the Coast Guard Investigative Service are investigating the case.

Mount Pleasant committees agree to bring cruise ship and disembarkation issue to council

The police, judicial and legal committees of Town Council for Mount Pleasant met Monday morning to discuss cruise ships docking.

During the meeting, representatives for Patriots Point said there is no land available for any ships relating to cruises and that all land is spoken for.

Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie vowed that imminent domain will not be used for cruise docking.

READ MORE: "Mount Pleasant discusses cruise ship docking and disembarkation at Monday meeting"

In a social media post Hayne said, "I believe the citizens of Mount Pleasant overwhelmingly oppose cruise ship traffic in our town, and state law prohibits such at Patriots Point, yet the cruise ship industry has a town-registered lobbyist who continues to approach council members and Patriots Point to allow this. Recently, Patriots Point discovered that some cruise ship lines had an arrangement with the tour boat company (under new ownership) to allow small tenders to ferry passengers to and from Patriots Point with their busses picking them up and taking them straight to downtown Charleston."

The International Longshoremen's Association however claims they are losing jobs and need the cruises.

Town Council member Gary Santos filed a petition to anchor the ships behind Fort Sumter and to bring the passengers to Patriots Point by a smaller boat.

A motion to bring this resolution to council was made and carried during Monday morning's meeting.

Moscow cruise port

Region Russia Rivers

Local Time 2024-05-08 15:54

Moscow is a Volga River cruise port, Russia's capital and largest city (population over 12,2 million, metro 17 million). Moscow City covers a total area of approx 2610 km 2 (970 mi2). By population, the city is ranked the world's 14th largest. Moscow is one of the Russian Federation's all 3 federal cities - together with St Petersburg and Sevastopol .

Being Russian Federation's capital, Moscow is a major economic, political, scientific and cultural center, as well as Europe's biggest city.

According to Forbes 2013, Moscow has been ranked as the 9th most expensive city in the world by Mercer and has one of the largest urban economies, being ranked as an alpha global city according to Globalization and World Cities Research Network. It is also one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world according to MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index. Moscow is the northernmost and the coldest megacity and metropolis on the Earth. It's home to Ostankino Tower, the tallest free-standing European structure; the Federation Tower, the tallest European skyscraper; and the Moscow International Business Center.

Moscow is situated on Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, which makes it the most populated inland city in the world. Moscow city is well known for architecture, particularly its historic buildings like Saint Basil's Cathedral. With over 40% of its territory covered by greenery, it's one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world. Moscow is the seat of power of the Russian Government, being the site of Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is now the residence of the President of Russia. Moscow Kremlin and Red Square are among the several World Heritage Sites in the city.

Moscow has 2 passenger terminals, North River Terminal (Rechnoy vokzal) and South River Terminal. The regular ship routes and cruises along Moskva and Oka rivers are used mostly for entertainment. North River Terminal (1937-built) is currently the main hub for long-range routes along the river. There are 3 freight ports that serve Moscow.

In late-July 2021 the city announced plans to incorporate a fleet (unspecified number) of fully electric passenger ferries into its public transportation network from summer 2022, the goal being to reduce the dependence on cars.

  • The boats are designed with length ~22 m (72 ft), passenger capacity 42, modern amenities (Wi-Fi, USB charging points, tables for working commuters), spaces for storing scooters and bicycles.
  • Moscow Transport confirmed that two routes (with max daily capacity ~16,000 passengers) have already been mapped out.
  • Passengers will be able to pay via bank cards, the city’s Troika card (smart card for travel by any public transportation) or biometric payment cards. Those with monthly/yearly public transit tickets will use the boats at no extra cost.
  • The new electric ferry service is up to 5 times faster (in comparison to other city public transports) and ~2 times faster than by car.

Moscow cruise terminal

Moscow's cruise terminal is called North River Terminal or River Station  ("Rechnoy Vokzal" / "речной вокзал").

The terminal was opened in 1937 and is one of 2 passenger terminals (the other being South River Terminal) of the city's river transport. North River Terminal is the main hub for long-range (including cruise) shipping routes.

South River Terminal (above photo) was opened in 1985.
