The brake light bulb is an important part of your vehicle's tail light assembly, and is responsible for alerting other drivers when your vehicle is slowing or coming to a stop. The brake light bulb is housed in a bulb socket, and is connected to the wiring harness. A brake light bulb's wiring harness receives signals from your brake light switch, which is activated when you press your brake pedal and completes the circuit to activate the brake lights. There can be several reasons your brake light bulb is not working. Brake lamps can wear or burn out over time and become dim with use and age. If your brake light bulb is flickering, dim, or not turning on at all when your brakes are used, the brake light bulb might be burned out or damaged. Your brake light bulbs might also not receive the power it needs to illuminate if the bulb socket is corroded, the wires connecting the bulbs, switches, and fuses are loose or damaged, the fuse is blown, or the relay system that sends the proper signals is not working as it should. To address these issues, you might need to simply replace your brake light bulb, or you may have to service or replace the brake switch, locate and rewire or replace loose wires, or replace a blown fuse in your vehicle's fuse box.
