WATCH: Couple marries at Game of Thrones studio tour in Northern Ireland

14 Feb 2023 5:18 PM

game of thrones studio tour wedding

Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day at the world’s only official Game of Thrones Studio Tour, where two former background actors from the hit HBO TV series tied the knot.

The couple, engaged during filming for Season 8 of Game of Thrones, also work as Studio Tour Guides at the visitor attraction.

Located at one of the acclaimed series’ original filming locations at Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge, Northern Ireland, Game of Thrones Studio Tour invites visitors to come up close and personal in the heart of Westeros to see breathtaking imagery, captivating sets, original props and costumes, and more behind-the-scenes elements.

The Valentine’s Day wedding between Miguel Cabrerizo and Marzenka Kochanowska took place in the authentic King’s Landing Map Room and courtyard set. The couple exchanged vows in front of adoring family and friends before dining at a themed banquet in the authentic Great Hall of Winterfell where the cast and crew of Game of Thrones once filmed.

To mark the first-ever wedding at Game of Thrones Studio Tour, the couple also wore authentic costumes from the series during their ceremony.

Much to the surprise of Game of Thrones actors and crew at the time, Miguel proposed to Marzenka on the set of Kings Landing, during filming for the series in Belfast in 2018. Miguel had played the role of an Unsullied soldier, while his sweetheart Marzenka played several roles including a Wight, a Wilding, and a King’s Landing citizen.

After the series wrapped, the couple decided to become Tour Guides at Game of Thrones Studio Tour.

Miguel said: “Marzenka and I are huge fans of the show and books, so we made the journey to Northern Ireland to become extras on the show. We learned about the exciting plans for an official Game of Thrones Studio Tour when filming ended. We just had to work there.”

Bride, Marzenka said: “We are huge Game of Thrones fans, so it was special to have our engagement on the set of the show, and then to be married in the world’s only official Game of Thrones Studio Tour. To have the first wedding at the visitor attraction is very special too.

“We love our jobs as Studio Tour Guides. We get to share our knowledge and passion for Game of Thrones with visitors, so every day for us is fantastic.”

To continue with the theme of romance, Game of Thrones Studio Tour recently launched a temporary wedding-themed display, bringing new costumes worn in the series to the Studio Tour.

The wedding costumes on display will run until April and includes costumes worn by Sansa Stark for her marriage to Tyrion Lannister, Lysa Arryn for her marriage to Peter Baelish, the dress Lyanna Stark wore for her secret wedding to Rhaegar Targaryen, and Roslin Frey’s iconic dress worn for her wedding with Edmure Tully.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour officially opens to the public

Game of Thrones  stars Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), Kristian Nairn (Hodor) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) were on hand today to officially open the doors of the  Game of Thrones  Studio Tour, which is essentially a  Game of Thrones  museum built in Linen Mill Studios in Northern Ireland, where the show did a lot of actual shooting. That means that some of the sets available for fans to check out — including the Great Hall of Winterfell and Castle Black — aren’t just recreations, but the actual sets where the actors shot scenes for years, unmoved since they were last in use.

Visitors will get to explore 110,000 square feet of  Game of Thrones  goodness, each corner packed with with props and costumes from the show, including Jon Snow’s sword Longclaw and Sansa Stark’s wedding dress. Folk can even sit on a replica of the Iron Throne if they like. There are also interactive workshops and live re-enactments of makeup, prosthetics and costume sessions.

“It will blow the fans away, I’m absolutely certain of that,” said actor Ian Beattie, who played Meryn Trant; he was at the museum earlier this week. “I was involved in the Game of Thrones series experience, which I thought was fantastic, but this blows it out of the water, everything that people will see during this studio tour, these were the outfits we used, those were the swords, the props, that was the set we walked on.”

Lord Mayor @CllrGlennBarr at the official opening of @gotstudiotour in #Banbridge . “This truly is a remarkable occasion, with the world’s only Game of Thrones Studio Tour officially open for visitors, right here in Banbridge" More: 👉 https://t.co/UzTmWGYSaj #GameOfThrones pic.twitter.com/z31XfGEVAd — ABC Council (@abcb_council) February 4, 2022

How  Game of Thrones  impacted Northern Ireland

Beattie, a Northern Irish native, also talked about the effect the show had on the area. “When Game of Thrones came to this province to start filming here, it was the biggest gift ever given to this province, HBO spent 250 million over eight seasons and that was just the direct cost of making the show,” he said.

"In 2018, 300,000 people spent 50 million pounds in this province specifically to come and see Game of Thrones attractions around the north coast, Belfast, etc. And now they have a permanent exhibition, it’s the gift that keeps on giving and it has turned into one of the leading film and television locations in the world. We now have crews that can vie with anybody in the world."

Time to plan a vacation…

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Northern Ireland is the first permanent official Game of Thrones tourist attraction in the world. Located in the Linen Mills Studios, the original filming studios for Game of Thrones, the tour offers visitors a unique behind-the-scenes look into how the show was filmed. The tour includes a host of original sets along with the original costumes and props used in filming.

The tour is one of the best Game of Thrones filming locations in Ireland and is a must-visit for any fans of the show. Having visited the studios we’ve put together this guide to help anyone planning a trip, including how to get there, what to expect on the tour and any tips we found useful.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Table of Contents

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour opened in the Linen Mill Studios in February 2022 as the first permanent officially licenced Game of Thrones tourist attraction in the world. Visitors take a self-guided tour through the original studios which includes 12 of the original sets used for filming.

When we heard of the studio tour opening we took the first opportunity to visit and visited the opening weekend in February 2022.

We’re huge fans of the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones. We’ve visited many of the Game of Thrones filming locations around Europe, you can check our guides to:

  • Game of Thrones Filming locations in Malta
  • Game of Thrones Filming locations in Croatia
  • Game of Thrones Filming locations in Ireland
  • Game of Thrones filming locations in Dubrovnik
GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS AHEAD! As you might expect, parts of the tour described below contain massive spoilers for the show!

How to Get to the Game of Thrones Studio Tour

The Studio tour is located at the Linen Mills Studios outside Banbridge in Northern Ireland. Visitors must park at the designated car park at the Banbridge shopping outlet, The Boulevard, and take a shuttle bus to the actual studios. The Boulevard is around 90 minutes by car from Dublin or 30 minutes from Belfast.

After parking in the designated car park, there is a ticket office where you can wait for the bus. Once the bus arrives the staff will scan your ticket and it’s a 10 to15 minute bus ride to the studios.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip: there are a limited number of parking spaces for Blue Badge holders at the Linen Mills Studio. You must reserve in advance.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

How much are tickets for the Studio Tour?

There are various ticket options available for the studio tour. Standard individual tickets are £39.50 per person with child tickets (5-15 years) costing £27.50. Students are £31.50 with a valid ID. Children 4 and under go free.

Family tickets (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children) are £115 and £109 respectively.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip: Ticket prices are expensive, however having visited the studios we found the entrance is well worth the price. The wealth of materials from the show and sets make it well worth the entrance price.

There are also ticket and transfer ticket packages that include return transport from Dublin and Belfast. Tickets for the tour must be purchased in advance from the studio tour website here .

How long is the Tour?

The studio tour will likely take at least 2 hours, including the shuttle bus from the Boulevard Shopping Outlet at Banbridge. We spent around 3 hours in total and could easily have spent another hour exploring all the exhibits. Based on this we’d budget around 3 to 4 hours to really enjoy everything the studio has to offer.

Game of Thrones Studio tour tip: The Shuttle bus from the parking lot takes around 15 minutes each way so you’ll need to factor this into your plans.

The Studio Tour

We’ve included a brief summary of each of the main areas of the studio tour.

Game of Thrones Studio tour tip: We highly recommend downloading the Game of Thrones Studio Tour app ( iOS / Android ) prior to your visit. You can store your ticket QR code on the app and the app has the free studio map and audio tour (for an additional cost)

On arrival at the studio, there is a cloakroom and a stall to pick up audio guides (these can be purchased in advance when ordering tickets) or ear protectors for young children (there are some loud parts of the tour).

Before starting the tour there is a cafe in the lobby for snacks. The tour starts after you leave the lobby.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

1 | Theatre

The first stop in the studio is a short Game of Thrones and studio introductory video in the auditorium. After this visitors start the self-guided tour around the studio.

2 | Beyond the Wall

The first section of the tour after the auditorium is all things North of the Wall. Character costumes include the Free Folk (the wildlings), the Night King and his henchmen and the life-sized giant, Wun Wun.

It’s incredible to see the actual props and costumes used in the show and the level of detail is incredible.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip : Make sure to check out the prosthetics section of the tour where staff outline how the actor wore the giant suit. It even had its only air conditioning to counter the heat of the suit!

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

3 | Production and Set Design

The tour progresses to a section on production and set design. This was one of our favorite parts of the tour as it gave a behind the scenes look at the concept art and set designs for many of the shows iconic scenes. There are many original scale models of various sets, including Winterfell and the Great Sept of Baelor.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

4 | Castle Black and The Night’s Watch

Next up is Castle Black and the home of the Night’s Watch. As the set designers envisioned, Castle Black was not a pleasant place. Characters on display include Jon Snow, Sam Tarley, and Melisandre (the priestess).

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

5 | Set Decoration and Props

The props section of the tour includes a myriad of props from the show. From small items such as weaponry and dragon eggs to larger-scale ships this section is packed with instantly recognisable props from the show

It’s worth looking at all the display cabinets in this section as there are some real gems hidden away, like the original “petrified” dragon eggs that were a wedding gift to Daenery’s Targaryen in season 1.

There’s also a fun interactive exhibit where visitors can design their own shield and crest.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip: For those who fancy a break there is a studio cafe located just before the Winterfell Crypts. The restaurant serves food throughout the day from breakfast until close

6 | The Crypts of Winterfell

Fans of the show will remember the crypts that lie under Winterfell castle. They feature in many scenes in the show and some of the most impressive tombs can be viewed on the studio tour.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

7 | Winterfell

The Great Hall of Winterfell set is the only set at the studio that has remained in the same place since season one of Game of Thrones. As the location for so many iconic Game of Thrones scenes, it’s no surprise that it was our favorite set on the tour! It really feels like you are in the world of Game of Thrones when you enter the Winterfell set.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Many of the show’s best-known character costumes are lined around the hall walls, including Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Sansa Stark, Sandor Clegane (The Hound), Tyrian Lannister, and Brienne of Tarth to name just a few.

Visitors can easily spend over 30 minutes just looking at all the costumes in this set.

8 | Dragonstone

The feature set in the Dragonstone section is the Chamber of the Painted Table which has a detailed map of Westeros engraved on its surface. The characters depicted here include Tyrion Lannister and Olenna Tyrell.

9 | Costume Design

One of the most impressive aspects of Game of Thrones was the intricate and diverse range of costumes that the actors wore. From heavily armored outfits to sleek, flowing dresses, the costume design section follows the Dragonstone sets and shows visitors exactly what it took to design all of the costumes, including displays of many of the iconic outfits.

10 | The Hall of Faces

The Hall of Faces is one of the most recognisable sets from Game of Thrones. The designers of Game of Thrones had to make over 600 individual prosthetic faces for the Hall of Faces set.

There is a really cool interactive exhibit where you can appear on one of the pillars of the Hall of Faces.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

11 | The Armory

The job of designing and making the vast array of weapons in Game of Thrones fell to master craftsman, Tommy Dunne. Tommy is a master armorer for movies and tv shows and worked previously on the movie Braveheart, Gladiator, and V for Vendetta.

Most of the signature weapons are on display, including Jon Snow’s sword, Longclaw, Ned Starks swords, Arya’s Needle and the dagger used to slay the Night King.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

There is also a fun interactive game where visitors can “shoot” a bow and arrow to kill the Wights attacking Winterfell.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

12 | Kings Landing

While the real-life city of Dubrovnik was used for Game of Thrones filming locations of Kings Landing, the studio was used for most of the internal shots. One of the most recognizable sets, the Map Courtyard is on display and featured in many important scenes.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip: The map was handpainted on tiles by two scenic painters, Dave Packard and Greg Winter, at the original set in the Titanic Studios.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

13 | The Throne Room

The final stop on the tour is the remains of the Throne Room after Daenerys Targaryen destroyed Kings Landing. The centrepiece of the room is of course the Iron Throne. Although there was a debate at the end of the show whether Drogon destroyed the throne, the original is here for everyone to see.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

The tour finishes in the studio gift shop which holds a really impressive selection of merchandise from the show.

Is the Game of Thrones Studio Tour Worth it?

So is the Game of Thrones Studio worth the trip? We say yes! Any fan of the Game of Thrones series will love the studio tour. The variety and number of sets, costumes, and props on display are amazing and it’s also cool to walk around the studio where many of the show’s iconic scenes were filmed. Although the entry cost is high, we guarantee that fans of the show will really enjoy the tour and we found it worth the cost.

Available until April, the new display includes the gown from the ‘Red Wedding’ .

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour is celebrating its first birthday – and Valentine’s Day – with a new display featuring some of the show’s wedding dresses.

Located at one of the HBO series’ original filming locations in Banbridge, Northern Ireland, the studio tour attraction is home to imagery, sets, props and costumes.

“We’ve had an amazing first year with visitors from all over the world, and even some  Game of Thrones  cast and crew members have come to see this amazing studio tour,” said Gail Warke , the attraction’s marketing manager.

“It’s an epic day out for all the family – whether you’ve seen the show or not or want to learn more about TV and film production.

“Nowhere else will you get to see so much skill, craft, and secrets that made  Game of Thrones  a global success.”

Available through April, the display unveils a selection of the gowns worn in the series’ weddings, which all ended terribly.

These include the gold wedding dress worn by Sansa Stark in season 3 for her marriage to Tyrion Lannister, and Roslin Frey’s dress from her wedding to Edmure Tully, known as the ‘Red Wedding’.

The display also showcases the velvet gown worn by Lysa Arryn in season 4 for her marriage to Peter Baelish, as well as Lyanna Stark’s dress worn for her secret wedding to Rhaegar Targaryen.

‘Red Wedding’ gown on view

Since opening in 2022, the Game of Thrones Studio Tour has become “an important asset for tourism in Northern Ireland”, said Niall Gibbons , the chief executive of Tourism Ireland.

“Overseas visitors regularly tell us that their holiday in Northern Ireland has surpassed their expectations – and a visit to  Game of Thrones Studio Tour  is certainly now a very popular choice on visitors’ itineraries.”

The world’s only official Game of Thrones -themed studio tour houses authentic sets of King’s Landing and the Great Hall of Winterfell, as well as more than 140 costumes, and weapons, jewellery and prosthetics.

After being delayed for more than a year, the Game of Thrones official studio tour is finally here, and it’s right around the corner .

The attraction recreates some of the key settings – including Dragonstone, the castle on the island off the east coast of Westeros. The Chamber of the Painted Table has been recreated with a vast and intricate map. Visitors will be able to walk through the actual film set for the Great Hall at Winterfell, which the new attraction has been built around.

The centerpiece of the Game of Thrones Studio Tour is the original set for the Great Hall at Winterfell, where the aristocracy and heroes gather. In the crypt of Winterfell, you can get up close and personal with characters such as Jon Snow, and inspect the giant skulls of ancient dragons that populate the depths of the Red Keep at King’s Landing.

Game of Thrones fans, did you know that there is a Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Northern Ireland?

It’s a completely immersive experience where you can walk through authentic film sets, and see costumes, props, and prosthetics from the show.

It’s based in Linen Mill Studios which was used to film much of the 8-series production that took us on an epic journey through the seven kingdoms of Westeros and Essos.

You cannot miss it if you’re a fan. Here is my honest Game of Thrones Studio Tour review and if it’s worth visiting.

Warning: there will be major spoilers for the Game of Thrones Studio Tour in this post.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Review Northern ireland

What is the Game of Thrones Studio Tour?

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour is a new, immersive, and exciting way to relive the award-winning HBO fantasy series that took the world by storm.

You can visit a huge studio lot that has many of the original sets, props, costumes, and armour from the show.

The tour also allows you to go behind the scenes and learn about all the incredible teams and talent that went into creating this epic 8-series production.

As well as drooling over the memorabilia, there are plenty of games, restaurants, photo opportunities, and gift shops to enjoy too.

It’s a must-visit experience for any Game of Thrones fan visiting Northern Ireland.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Where is the Game of Thrones studio tour located?

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour is set within Linen Mill Studios which is around a 30-minute drive from the city of Belfast in Banbridge, Northern Ireland.

Linen Mill Studios was one of the major TV studios where they filmed the Game of Thrones series and many of the sets you will visit, such as Winterfell Great Hall, have not moved since production!

So, you will literally be walking in the footsteps of the actors on your visit. How cool is that?

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Review

Game of Thrones Studio Tour ticket prices & opening times

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour is not a cheap experience by any means but I felt that it was well worth the money, especially if you’re a fan.

Adult ticket prices are around £39.50 (46 euro) and this includes your studio tour, parking, and shuttle service. It will cost more if you book coach transfers.

There are concessions for seniors and students (16+) at £31.50 (37 euro) and teens (13-15) are £15.50 (18 euro). Under 12s get in for free and there are family tickets available.

They sometimes have budget offers for weekday visits. So, it’s worth playing with the dates online to see if you can spot some discounts.

You will need to book your tickets online before you visit. You choose a specific entry time and the tour is normally open from 10 am – 6.30 pm throughout the year.

How to get to the Game of Thrones Studio Tour

There are many ways to visit the Game of Thrones Studio Tour even if you’re not driving in Ireland.

You can visit yourself by car or take one of the coach transfer services from Belfast or Dublin.

By Car & Game of Thrones Studio Tour shuttle bus

Although you can find Linen Mill Studios on the map, you cannot park up there for the studio tour as there simply aren’t enough parking spaces.

So, on the day of your tour, you will need to make your way over to The Boulevard shopping centre in Banbridge and park in the Game of Thrones Studio Tour parking area. It’s completely free.

Once here, you can park up and head to their Game of Thrones Studio Tour welcome centre, check-in, and then wait for your shuttle bus service to the studios.

Your entry time on your ticket is your shuttle departure time. So, make sure to get to The Boulevard around 15 minutes before the entry slot just in case.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour welcome centre

A member of the team will collect you from the welcome centre and then guide you to the bus. It’s then less than 10 minutes travel time to the studios.

Once you’re finished, you will then take the shuttle bus service back to The Boulevard.

Even if you’re not driving, you can get a bus to The Boulevard in Banbridge and get the shuttle bus the same way.

You cannot get a taxi drop off at the studios, you will still need to be dropped off at the Boulevard and then get the shuttle.

The Boulevard is around 30 minutes drive from central Belfast. You can find the location at the Game of Thrones Studios Parking Area, Outlet Park, Banbridge BT32 4LF. Click here for a Google Pin!

By Coach Transfer from Belfast or Dublin

If you’re heading to the studios from either Belfast or Dublin, the Game of Thrones Studio tour has some coach transfer services you can book.

These will pick you up from either city and then drop you off at the Studio Tour and head back after you’re finished.

If you were heading to the tour from Belfast, you don’t have to book a return there. You could easily book an onward transfer to Dublin. The same goes from Dublin to Belfast.

Just pick that option at checkout. It’s a great and convenient way to break up the journey between the two destinations!

Alternatively, why not book the tour through Get Your Guide? You can easily book tickets there with a transfer.

Things to do in the Game of Thrones Studio Tour

You will be amazed by the number of things that you can do at the Game of Thrones Studio Tour.

I went in blind and I actually spent way more time here than I originally intended to.

Everything from the music, the quality of the exhibits, the authentic sets, and the gift shop was entirely immersive. Even the restaurants were top quality.

Here are all the magical things to do on the Game of Thrones Studio Tour.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour review

1. Go Beyond the Wall

So, there is a wee surprise for you as you enter the exhibition and I won’t spoil it for you but you start your self-guided journey off Beyond the Wall. It’s really cold, misty, and mysterious.

Here, you can see costumes from the White Walkers, including the infamous Night King, members of The Watch, and Wildlings too.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Beyond the Wall

My favourite part was seeing one of the Free Folk Giants, Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun. It looked so lifelike and made a great photo opportunity.

There was also a touching scene of Bran, Benjen, and Hodor used in the ‘Hold the Door’ scene *sniff*.

Game of Thrones Hodor Hold the Wall

2. Discover Production Design

I always find it amazing how initials sketches and designs on paper can transform into what we see on the screen!

In the Production Design area, you’ll find miniature versions of the great houses of Westeros and sketches of how they imagined the landscapes before filming.

There are interactive games to play and you can see into a production artist’s studio. How many places from the show do you recognise?

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Production Design

3. Step into Castle Black

After you’ve explored Beyond the Wall, you make you’re way into Castle Black which is home to the Night’s Watch.

Here you can see sets and costumes of Jon Snow, Commander Jeor Mormont, Samwell Tarly, Maester Aemon, and Alliser Thorne.

You’ll smell the smoke and the cracking of the fire. Admire Melisandre’s red dress or look at Sandor aka ‘The Hound’ in his cell.

Castle Black Game of Thrones Studio Tour

4. Crypt of Winterfell

You start your journey into House Stark at the Crypt of Winterfell where you’ll find familiar faces including Ned and his Direwolf.

But, the best part was the fact that they had life-size statues of the Stark children; Jon, Sansa, and Arya.

Of course, Jon Snow is one of my favourite characters in the show so I had a few photos with him!

Winterfell Crypt Game of Thrones Studio Tour

5. Walk through Winterfell Great Hall

In my opinion, Winterfell Great Hall was the best set of the studio tour and I loved walking through the hall with all the different characters and costumes.

Although they filmed most of the exteriors at Castle Ward in County Down, the interiors were filmed at Linen Mill Studios.

So, when you walk through here you’re standing on the same floor that all the actors did whilst filming!

Look out for familiar costumes like Tyrion, Bran, and Sansa. See the flicker of flames in the candle chandeliers, smell the fire, and hear the sounds of the hearth.

Winterfell Hall Game of Thrones Studio Tour

7. Explore Dragonstone

Next, you’ll explore Dragonstone Castle and see the infamous Painted Table with the map of Westeros. This is where the Targaryens and Baratheons planned their strategies for war.

You’ll find costumes for Ellaria Sand, Daenerys Targaryen, and Olenna Tyrell. Look out for all the different markers placed across the kingdoms.

Dragonstone Game of Thrones Studio Tour

After, you can visit the Dragonstone Throne which was the traditional seat for Targaryen heirs.

Also, look out for the huge dragon heads that look like they’ve travelled straight from the Red Keep Crypt.

Game of Thrones Studio tour Dragonstone

6. See costumes of your favourite characters

I dread to think how long it took for the production teams to create all of the costumes for Game of Thrones.

From the cloaks of the Night’s Watch, gold armour for Joffrey, and the fine dresses of the different courts. Thousands of hours and threads went into creating them.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour costumes

Many of these works of art are on display here that were actually worn by the actors whilst filming.

There are hundreds on display from nearly all the main characters. You can really look closely to see the details that you can’t easily see on screen.

As much as I hated her, Cersei had some of the best costumes and dresses made by far. I loved her armour dress!

Game of Throne Studio Tour costumes

8. Game of Thrones props & prosthetics

One of the most fascinating parts of production is the makeup and prosthetics.

Although many of the White Walkers were played by human actors it would take hours to put on their masks and body paint to make them look the part.

Plus, many of the battle scenes needed false limbs and realistic-looking wounds.

You can see all sorts of prosthetics on display like masks and full-sized body doubles. Even, Direwolf’s heads and baby dragons.

Look out for all the props too. You’ll find goblets, dragon eggs, tapestries, books from the Citadel, and house sigil flags.

Game of Thrones prosthetics

9. Put your own face in the Hall of Faces

The Hall of Faces in Game of Thrones is one of the creepiest parts of the series which is home to The Faceless Man of Braavos.

In the show, Arya joins him to become a girl with no name and it’s a pretty hard watch. But, I loved the sets all the same.

In the Game of Thrones Studio Tour, you can actually put your own face in the Hall of Faces!

Simply use one of the screens to take a photo of your face, press submit, and see your face pop up moments later. It’s a great photo opportunity (but not the most flattering lol).

Hall of Faces Game of Thrones studio tour

10. See the armoury and weapons used in the show

Game of Thrones was filled with awesome swords from Arya’s Needle, Jaime’s Widow’s Wail, Jon’s Longclaw, and Brienne’s Oath Keeper.

Armoury Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Plus, many other weapons were used like Tyrian’s Crossbow, axes, arrows, maces, and Oberyn Martell’s spear. Plus, there were shields, helmets, armour, and trebuchets etc.

You can see all of the weapons that were made for the show in the armoury and even get a photo with Longclaw!

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

11. See Scoring in the Music Studio

Music in fantasy shows can seriously make or break a production, I’m not kidding!

The sound score counts for a lot more than you think. It really sets the scene and makes the audience feel like they are there.

I’m a huge fan of the composer Bear McCreary who has made the music scores for shows like Outlander , Black Sails, The Witcher: Blood Origin, and Rings of Power .

But, the Game of Thrones music score was created by Ramin Djawadi. He composed the main theme tune and iconic songs like The Rains of Castamere . He’s since won several Grammy Awards.

You can see an interview with him on the studio tour. Have a look inside his mind and the process he took to create the music for the show.

Game of Thrones Music

12. Play interactive games

Around the Game of Thrones Studio Tour, you can find plenty of interactive games to get involved with. In fact, I saw some in nearly every room.

You can have a go at archery, become a White Walker, put your face in the Hall of Faces, and many more.

It was so fun and the kids (and bigger kids) were having a blast with them!

Game of Thrones Studio Tour review archery

13. Walk through King’s Landing

My second favourite set of the studio tour is King’s Landing where you can enter the Map Room.

You’ll notice that the room temperatures from Beyond the Wall have gradually been getting warmer in each room and you’ll find it very warm in King’s Landing.

King's Landing Map Room Game of Thrones

In the Map Room, you’ll find costumes for Cersei and Jaime Lannister and you can walk into the Hand of the King’s meeting room. There are also costumes of Margaery Tyrell and Tommen Baratheon.

This was one of the rooms which made me feel like I was really there in Westeros. The sounds, music, smells – everything came together to feel like you’d been transported to the Red Keep.

Game of Thrones Hand of the King Room

14. Destroyed Throne Room

Lastly, you’ll walk through the Destroyed Throne Room which was featured in series 8 of the show.

Here, you’ll find Daenerys and Jon Snow in the destroyed Red Keep and you’ll be completely surrounded by rubble and mayhem.

If you look closely, you’ll see dragons flying overhead and you can take a picture with the famous Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour destroyed throne room

15. Have lunch in The Studio Café

If you feel like some food on your Game of Thrones Studio Tour you have two options to choose from.

One is the Lobby Café which is located at the entrance and serves up coffee, soft drinks, and light bites.

But, I particularly liked The Studio Café found around halfway through the tour.

I wasn’t really expecting much from the food to be honest as it was a studio tour. I thought it was going to be basic, mass-produced, and overpriced but boy was I wrong.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Restaurant

The restaurant here was really good and served up incredible hot dishes. I treated myself to a ham hock sandwich which came with chunky chips and it was delicious!

You’ll also find an all-day breakfast, salads, burgers, fish & chips, beef kebabs, and hot wings. Plus alcoholic drinks like beers and cocktails and desserts. It was really good value for money.

Ham Hock Sandwich Game of Thrones Studio tour dining

16. See the Greyjoy ship in the lot

Another one of the hidden gems at the Game of Thrones Studio Tour is the Greyjoy Ship in the parking lot.

It’s a huge wooden ship with a Kraken attached to it and it was used to film scenes with the Greyjoys in Pike.

You can’t board the ship, or really get close to it, but it is still cool to see it in the staff parking area. If you head to the smoking area near the mid-way toilets you can get a sneak peek there.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Linen Mill Studios Greyjoy Ship

17. Shop in the Game of Thrones Gift Shop

Is it even a tour if you don’t exit through a gift shop? In all seriousness, the Game of Thrones Studio Tour gift shop is actually worth browsing in.

You’ll find all sorts of magical things to purchase here from t-shirts, jumpers, notebooks, keyrings, mugs, and pins.

There are souvenirs from every house in Westeros and even rare collector’s items. You’ll need lots of time to shop and enough funds in your bank account. It was all so tempting.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour gift shop

18. Sit on the Iron Throne!

Something that everyone wants to do at the Game of Thrones Studio Tour is to sit on the Iron Throne.

Well, the good news is that you can do that and get some awesome photos taken in the process.

You’ll take your seat in the king’s chair with a green screen behind you and get some spectacular photos that look like you’re in the Red Keep.

You can purchase digital copies, and physical copies and even make key rings and magnets. They make a great souvenir to remember your visit.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Iron Throne

How long does it take to do the Game of Thrones studio tour?

I would say that you will need at least 2-3 hours to complete the Game of Thrones Studio Tour.

But, it entirely depends on you and how much you’re enjoying it! You could easily spend half a day there if you’re really keen.

Game of Thrones Studio tour review

There is so much to see and do at the tour and super fans will be in their element with all the props, costumes, games, and sets. Plus, there is a restaurant to enjoy a delectable lazy lunch.

I have to admit, I spent ages here as I was loving it so much. It was way more time than I originally intended to spend so make sure to plan enough time in your itinerary.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Is the Game of Thrones Studio Tour worth it?

100% YES! It’s not the cheapest experience by any means but visiting many of the real sets that are featured in the show is priceless.

There is so much to do here and the quality of the exhibits is incredible. I loved getting to see all the armour, weapons, costumes, and props that made up this fantasy world.

Plus, there is some great food, photo opportunities, and gift shops as well. It’s incredibly immersive and Game of Thrones fans will be obsessed.

All the staff at the tour were really friendly and on hand to answer any questions. They are all big fans of the show.

They also helped me take many of the photos in my post as I was a solo visitor. So, big thanks for that!

Don’t skip visiting the Game of Thrones Studio Tour if you’re a fan, you won’t regret it.

Looking for more Game of Thrones in Northern Ireland?

If you’re visiting Northern Ireland to visit Game of Thrones attractions and filming locations, you’re in for a real treat.

Although they did film in countries from around the world most of the show was filmed right here in Northern Ireland using countryside locations and production lots like Linen Mill Studios.

So, there are plenty of places to track down as well as walking trails, shops, and experiences. Here is a mini guide on where you should head next.

Ballintoy Harbour Game of Thrones filming location Iron Islands

Belfast

Although there aren’t many Game of Thrones filming locations in Belfast, there are places you can visit in the city that celebrate the show.

They filmed lots of the series in the Titanic Studios in Belfast. You can’t visit unfortunately but you can find a ‘ Glass of Thrones ’ walking trail in the Titanic Quarter. It’s completely free.

This is a series of stained glass windows with different houses and scenes from the show! You can find the Starks, Lannisters, Targaryens, and Baratheons and you can even sit on the Iron Throne.

Glass of Thrones Belfast Iron Throne

Or, why not head to the Ulster Museum to see the Game of Thrones Tapestry ? It’s a 90-metre-long tapestry that has scenes from every episode from The Red Wedding to the Mad Queen.

If that’s not enough, you can visit themed escape rooms, a Game of Thrones door, Steenston’s Jewellers who designed the jewellery and crowns for the show, and where the cast used to go out to drink.

Game of Thrones tapestry Belfast

County Down

Just a few hours south of Belfast you can visit the gorgeous County Down that’s home to many filming locations from Game of Thrones.

My favourite has to be Tollymore Forest which played Winterfell Forest in the first series. You can visit the wildlings pit, where the Starks found the direwolves, and more.

After, you must make your way over to Inch Abbey , a beautiful ruin near Downpatrick. This is where Robb Stark sets up camp and learns of his father’s untimely demise.

Or, why not visit Winterfell by heading to Castle Ward ? There are over 20 filming locations here, including Audley’s Field and you can even take archery lessons in the Winterfell courtyard!

Inch Abbey Game of Thrones Filming Location

County Antrim

Heading north of Belfast, there are some amazing filming locations that you can visit on the way up to the Causeway Coast.

You can visit Braavos in the form of Carnlough Harbour where Arya ends up and heads to the Hall of Faces.

Braavos at Carnlough Harbour

Cushendun Caves was used to film part of the Stormlands of House Baratheon. This is where Ser Davos Seaworth rows the Red Priestess Melisandre to the caves to have her creepy Shadow Baby.

Just north of there, you can visit Fairhead or the cliffs of Dragonstone where Jon Snow meets Daenerys’ dragons, or visit Murlough Bay which they used for Slaver’s Bay.

Fair Head Game of Thrones

Dark Hedges

I’m going to put the Dark Hedges as an item on its own as it was one of my favourite Northern Ireland Game of Thrones filming locations.

Although it only featured for a few moments in the show, it’s now one of the most popular places to visit in the country.

The Dark Hedges played Kings Road in series 2 where we see Arya, Hot Pie, and Gendry escape from Kings Landing.

You can park outside the Dark Hedges Hotel and make your way over to Bregagh Road. Make sure to visit earlier or later in the day for fewer crowds.

Click here to read my complete guide for visiting the Dark Hedges

The Dark Hedges Game of Thrones

Causeway Coast & Glens

One of my favourite areas for chasing down Game of Thrones filming locations has to be the magical Causeway Coast home of the Giant’s Causeway.

Here, you can find amazing locations like Ballintoy Harbour which was used to play the port of Pyke in the Iron Islands.

You can then head down to the road to the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge that they used as inspiration for the bridge of Castle Greyjoy.

Dunluce Castle

Larrybane Quarry is right next door where King Renly set up his camp and Catelyn Stark visits to negotiate.

Dunluce Castle was used for filming Pyke Castle with a bit of magical CGI or you can head to the Mussenden Temple and Downhill Beach to visit Dragonstone Temple.

Downhill Beach aka Dragonstone

Although the Giant’s Causeway was not used in Game of Thrones, it’s still an incredible place to visit as it’s mired in magic, myth, and legends. I would recommend heading there at sunset.

Or you can visit hidden gems like Kinbane Castle which sits on the cliffs, Dunseverick with its ruined castle and waterfall, or catch a ferry over to Raithlin Island.

Giant's Causeway Northern Ireland

Journey of Doors trail

A great way to visit all of the Game of Thrones filming locations in Northern Ireland is to follow the Journey of Doors trail.

If you weren’t aware of the  Journey of Doors trail , the beech trees at the Dark Hedges were damaged some years ago due to over-tourism, and some of them were sadly knocked down.

A group of clever artists re-purposed the wood and made a series of Game of Thrones doors.

The doors were gifted to pubs dotted around Northern Ireland. Many of these pubs were places that the cast/crew used to eat, drink or sleep in after filming!

When you visit all filming locations, remember to eat/dine in these pubs and see the doors. You can get your Game of Thrones passport stamped at each one.

HBO HARRY POTTER Series Finds Its Writer And Director

Game of Thrones Studio Tour  will celebrate its first birthday this week and is offering two great incentives to visit during the entire month of February.

Located at one of the acclaimed series’ original filming locations at Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge, Northern Ireland,   Game of Thrones Studio Tour  invites visitors to come up close and personal in the heart of Westeros to see breathtaking imagery, captivating sets, original props and costumes and more behind-the-scenes elements from the hit HBO series.

The Studio Tour was officially opened on February 4 th   last year with special appearances by  Game of Thrones  fan favorites Kristian Nairn (Hodor), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), and Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran) who together helped to ‘Break the Chains’ for this brand-new global visitor attraction.

To mark its first birthday,  Game of Thrones Studio Tour  will offer visitors a 25% discount on all admission tickets, and children under 12 will gain free admission to the family-friendly Studio Tour throughout the month of February.

And as it’s the month of romance with Valentine’s Day approaching, a new temporary display of opulent costumes featured in  Game of Thrones  weddings has also launched.

The Wedding costumes display will run until April and includes:

  • The stunning gold wedding dress worn by Sansa Stark (Season 3) for her marriage to Tyrion Lannister at the Great Sept of Baelor.
  • The velvet gown worn by Lysa Arryn in Season 4 for her marriage to Peter Baelish, shows remarkable detail representing House Tully and House Arryn.
  • Lyanna Stark’s tulle skirt and bodice with a metal filigree collar that she wore for her secret wedding to Rhaegar Targaryen.
  • Roslin Frey’s iconic green and gold brocade coat and intricate cream crochet veil from her wedding to Edmure Tully.

Gail Warke,  Game of Thrones Studio Tour  Marketing Manager , said: “We’ve had an amazing first year with visitors from all over the world, and even some  Game of Thrones  cast and crew members have come to see this amazing Studio Tour.

“February will be a special month for us, and we want our visitors to be a part of our celebration. It’s an epic day out for all the family – whether you’ve seen the show or not or want to learn more about TV & Film production. Nowhere else will you get to see so much skill, craft, and secrets that made  Game of Thrones  a global success.”

Niall Gibbons, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland , said: “Congratulations to  Game of Thrones Studio Tour  on its first birthday. Meet the Real-Life Loves of the Game of Thrones Cast

With 'House of the Dragon' back, re-live the original series with a look at some of the real-life loves of the cast of 'Game of Thrones'

Fans may be busy streaming House of the Dragon since its return on June 16, but they certainly haven't forgotten the show that brought the world of George R.R. Martin to the small screen in the first place: Game of Thrones.

Based on the book series, A Song of Fire and Ice, the hit series featured complex characters entangled in all sorts of complicated matters of the heart — family-related or romantic. Lines were drawn, sides were picked and the fandoms were invested.

However, while the debates were raging on social media long after the last episode aired, the actors who embodied those characters were moving on in real life.

So, who did Jon Snow ( Kit Harington ) and Brienne of Tarth ( Gwendoline Christie ) cleave to in real life?

See some of the real-life loves of the cast of Game of Thrones , below.

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie

Getty Images

Perhaps the most popular pairing to come out of the series, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie met when she played Ygritte, the love interest to his Jon Snow, in season 2 of the show back in 2011.

The pair kept their relationship under the radar for years before finally making their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2016 Olivier Awards. They were wed in 2018, in a romantic ceremony that took place at Kirkton of Rayne Church in Scotland.

In February 2021, the couple confirmed they had welcomed their first child, a baby boy whose name wasn't revealed. In 2023, they grew their brood once again, welcoming a baby girl, who's also been kept away from the spotlight.

Peter Dinklage's Wife, Erica Schmidt

His character Tyrion Lannister might have had a hard time finding love, but in real life, Peter Dinklage got swept away by his wife, Erica Schmidt , nearly 20 years ago. The pair met in New York City in the early aughts, and have worked together several times over the course of their decades-long relationship, as Schmidt is a revered playwright and theater director in her own right.

They had a no-muss, no-fuss wedding in 2005, when they eloped in Las Vegas.

"I was going there for a charity event," Dinklage said in a 2016 interview with  The New York Times . "And then while we were there, we just decided to do it. It was a bit lonely. We got a VHS videocassette of the wedding that no one will ever see, that we've buried in a box deep beneath the earth's core."

The pair share two children whose identities have been kept away from the limelight.

Gwendoline Christie's Boyfriend, Giles Deacon

Neil Mockford / Ricky Vigil M/GC Images

Gwendoline Christie won our hearts playing the dutiful Brienne of Tarth. In real life, it seems she's committed to her partner of 11 years, fashion designer Giles Deacon .

Of the little that is known about their love story is the fact that the two met through mutual friends and began dating in 2013.

Because Deacon is a fashion designer, the two lovebirds have also collaborated on a few looks, including the cherry-red gown he designed for her for the  2015 SAG Awards .

“I wanted to feel really alive and vibrant and sexual,” Christie told Vogue . “I also wanted to show my back because I was very strong.”

“It was a true collaboration and I felt incredible," she continued. "I felt really strong and vibrant and I felt like me."

Jason Momoa's Girlfriend, Adria Arjona

Jon Kopaloff/Getty; Nicola Gell/GA/The Hollywood Reporter via Getty

After finalizing his divorce from Lisa Bonet — whom he'd been with for 17 years — Jason Momoa , who played Khal Drogo on the hit show, found love again in fellow actor Adria Arjona.

And though Momoa hasn't called her out by name, he revealed , "I am very much in a relationship," while appearing at the Basingstoke Comic Con in England back in May. He later included pictures of the two of them in an Instagram post commemorating his travels to Japan.

Jack Gleeson's Wife, Roisin O'Mahony

Jack Gleeson's wedding to Róisín O'Mahony was far from his character Joffrey Baratheon's elaborate — and deadly — wedding on Game of Thrones.

The Irish actor wed his other half in a " very simple, prayerful and dignified marriage ceremony " at The Sacred Heart Church in The Glen, Ballinskelligs, County Kerry, Ireland in 2022.

And though Parish priest Father Patsy Lynch, who performed the initial ceremony, told the Irish Independent that this was a pre-wedding ceremony and that "the real ceremony will take place over in England," the super-private couple has since kept their relationship hush-hush.

Natalie Dormer's Husband, David Oakes

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

Much like her fellow costars, Natalie Dormer hasn't divulged much about her relationship with fellow British actor David Oakes.

The quiet pair, however, reportedly tied the knot in a "romantic ceremony" sometime in the spring of 2023 and celebrated with an intimate dinner at Roth Bar & Grill in Bruton, Somerset, according to the Daily Mail .

Dormer, who played Margaery Tyrell in the series, and Oakes share a daughter .

Kristofer Hivju's Wife, Gry Molvær Hivju

Gregg DeGuire/Getty

Aside from the fact that she is also Norwegian and has her own successful career as a producer/director in the entertainment industry, not much else is known publicly about Kristofer Hivju's (a.k.a. Tormund Giantsbane) wife, Gry Molvær Hivju.

Fans can keep up with the lovebirds via their Instagram pages as the two tend to post about their various adventures from Norway and beyond.

According to IMDb , the pair got married in 2015.

Carice van Houten's Partner, Guy Pearce

Shutterstock

She may have played Melisandre, a.k.a. the Red Woman on Game of Thrones, but in real life, Memento actor Guy Pearce adds tons more color to Carice van Houten 's life.

The pair, who've been together since 2015, welcomed their son Monte in 2016, and while the Australian actor loves living in Houten's home city, Amsterdam, he told Who Magazine he'd like to get their little boy to experience the hospitality Down Under.

"He loves animals and I’m always talking to him about bilbies, koalas and kangaroos," Pearce revealed. "He’s seen some Australian animals in the zoo in Amsterdam, but it will be great to show him our wildlife back in Australia."

Gemma Whelan's Husband, Gerry Howell

Gemma Whelan/Instagram

Yara Greyjoy might have been tough as nails, but Gemma Whelan is a certified lover girl in real life. The actress, who's been married to comedian Gerry Howell since 2017, never misses a chance to show off her cute family on Instagram.

She and Howell share two kids — a daughter born in October of 2017 and a son born sometime in 2021.

While shooting the eighth and final season of GoT in 2019, Whelan posted an endearing picture of herself breastfeeding her then-newborn daughter while in full Yara Greyjoy regalia.

"Enjoy tonight's episode guys...! Yara's got some big news...🤱🦑 👊🏼 #got #hbo #plottwistahoy 😉" she captioned the pic, before reassuring fans her character was not with child on the show.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's Wife, Nukaaka Coster-Waldau

Marc Piasecki/FilmMagic

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and his wife Nukaaka got married in 1998, and though it's safe to say the pair has stuck together through the highs and lows of life, one thing Nukaaka wouldn't do was watch Game of Thrones.

"I dragged her to the premiere of the first [season] and then since then, no," the actor, who played Jaime Lannister, told Jimmy Fallon . "She keeps promising that she'll sit down with a friend and watch it," he joked.

The long-term lovebirds share two daughters, Safina Waldau and Fillippa Coster-Waldau.

Jacob Anderson's Wife, Aisling Loftus

David M. Benett/Dave Benett/Getty

Jacob Anderson is as tight-lipped about his life with wife Aisling Loftus — whom he married in 2018 — as his character Grey Worm was about his.

Though he's given glimpses of his private life every now and again — he posted an Instagram pic in 2020, revealing that he and Loftus had welcomed a baby girl — for the most part, he stays away from the cameras and enjoys a quiet life in London.

The actor, who is also a musician and goes by the alias Raleigh Ritchie, previously described the moment he set his eyes on Loftus, telling The Guardian in 2016 , "I’ll never forget ... because it all seemed to happen in slow motion."

"We’ve been together five years. She’s intelligent, sensitive and empathetic, and I’ve never met anybody who cares about people as much as she does. We never run out of things to talk about and our relationship has always felt very natural."

Aidan Gillen's Girlfriend, Camille O'Sullivan

Aidan Gillen (a.k.a. Petyr Baelish, "Littlefinger") has long been a villain on screen, playing nefarious characters in The Wire, The Dark Knight Rises and Peaky Blinders, among other works. His prolific career, however, was unbeknownst to his girlfriend, Irish singer Camille O'Sullivan.

"When I met him first, I didn’t know what he did because I didn’t have a television. To be honest, it was good I didn’t know what he did because I would have totally messed it up," she admitted to the Irish Examiner .

For his part, it seems Gillen has been smitten with O'Sullivan since they got together in 2014. "Camille and me have been together for about six-and-a-half years and she’s definitely been a stabilising force in my life,” he reportedly told the Sunday Independent , per the Irish Mirror .

“She’s been an inspiration. She’s great fun. It was like finding someone who was like me but not totally like me. We understand each other but there are mysteries, too, that you want to unpick."

Lena Headey's Husband, Marc Menchaca

Cindy Ord/WireImage

Lena Headey 's wedding to Ozark actor Marc Menchaca was as top-secret as their entire relationship has been.

Photos shared by a guest who attended the pair's Italian nuptials showed Heady (who played Cersei Lannister) in a simple, white gown with spaghetti straps, a veil and some roses in her hair. The carousel, posted to Instagram, also revealed that Heady's GoT costar Peter Dinklage was in attendance.

A separate photo posted by local restaurant Scinuà also captured a mini-reunion between Dinklage, Michelle Fairley (who played Catelyn Stark) and  Conleth Hill  (who played Varys), that same weekend.
