GENTING DREAM: Cruise Guide for First-Timers

GENTING DREAM: Cruise Guide for First-Timers

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

The idea of going on a cruise may be intimidating for some because of the cost. Others dismiss it as a retiree’s holiday option. That may be true many years back, but this trend is gradually changing as years roll by.

The rise of more cruise lines, offering different options and encouraging healthy competition, resulted in relatively reasonable cruise rates. Some of these companies are going the extra mile to reach out to the growing number of travelers that are willing to spend on things or experiences that give good value for money by creating themed cruise ships and coming up with innovative itineraries. Genting Dream is one of those that cater to a wide range of guests — friends, families, couples, and even company incentive trips (or sales conference/meeting).

If you will be sailing with Genting Dream soon and it is your first time, this post is for you. We hope this will help you prepare and maximize your cruise experience. Here are the things you can expect.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Packing & Pre-Trip Preparations

  • Travel Documents. You need to bring these documents: passport, a photocopy of your passport’s bio page, a copy of your cruise ticket, and a visa (if necessary). If you are a Philippine passport holder, no visa needed because the sail destinations are within Southeast Asia and the homeport is Singapore. If you want a hassle-free purchase transaction, you may present your credit card.
  • Clothes/Outfits. Come on. We know you want to snap as many photos as you can while onboard and during shore excursions. We normally pack two sets of clothes per day: casual for the day activities and smart casual or dressy outfits for the night events, especially if you plan to watch the evening shows or try the fine-dining specialty restaurants. The same goes for footwear. The important thing is that you are comfortable.
  • Toiletries. The stateroom comes with the toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, lotion, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, cotton buds, and tissues. It also has bath towels, hand towels, bathrobes, and hotel slippers.
  • Check-in Luggage. Each passenger can check in more than one luggage without incurring additional fees.
  • Onboard Currency. The default currency while on the ship is the Singapore Dollar (SGD).
  • Onboard Time. Genting Dream follows Singapore time (same as the Philippines) throughout the entire cruise.
  • Dream Cruise Mobile App. Download the App before getting onboard. You can use the App to view ship information, see the daily onboard schedule, check availability of onboard attractions and facilities. You can also use this to send IM to your shipmates, purchase your onboard WiFi package, and review your onboard account statement.

  • Embarkation Process. Genting Dream is homeporting in Singapore at the Marina Bay Cruise Center. Upon arrival at the terminal, look for the baggage drop area for the pieces of luggage you want to check-in. Prepare your travel documents for check-in. After that, you will pass through immigration and then security checks before you can finally board the ship.
  • Checking-in. You need to present your cruise ticket at the check-in counter to get your Access Card that will serve as your cabin keycard and your purchase card for onboard shopping and when dining at specialty restaurants. You can check-in online via the official website from 7 days up to 24 hours prior to the departure date. If you are going on a shore excursion, you also need to present the Access Card when getting off and returning to the ship. Do not lose this card. When you do, relax. Go to the Reception and they will print another one for you after answering SOP questions.
  • Surrender Passport. Upon boarding, the staff will take your passport. Do not panic. You will get it back after the cruise (before you check out).

WELCOME ABOARD!

ATTENTION! Changi Lounge is offering the Fly-Cruise Transfer service, which includes: Seamless bag transfer. End-to-end luggage transfer from Changi Airport Baggage Claim area to the Marina Bay Cruise Terminal to your stateroom! Your luggage will be waiting for you in your cabin. Advance cruise check-in at the lounge. You will have your documents processed in advance and get your Access Card here. Enjoy the lounge amenities. Complimentary buffet, various drink selections, free internet connection, desktop computers, and electrical outlets. It also has meeting rooms, a nap room, and a shower room. You can also explore Jewel while waiting. The lounge is located near the famous Rain Vortex and the Changi Experience Studio. Ground transfer. The transportation to the cruise terminal from the airport is also covered. When you avail of this service, you will skip the check-in process at the Marina Bay Cruise Center and head straight to the immigration process.

Safety Drill

Before setting sail, there’s a safety drill that everyone is required to participate in. You need to pay attention and familiarize yourself with the ship’s map, especially your Assembly Station (which is indicated on your Access Card), and the emergency exits in case of an emergency. Check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory that you will find in your cabin for the safety drill schedule. Ours was held at 9:00 PM.

3 Complimentary Restaurants

This is part of what you paid for when you booked your cruise ticket. You can dine here without incurring additional fees. It’s free-of-charge. Genting Dream has three inclusive restaurant options:

  • Dream Dining Room Lower. It serves either a semi-buffet type or Chinese set menu, depending on the schedule. You may check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory for the info. This is located on Deck 7, Aft section of the ship. Reservation is required.
  • Dream Dining Room Upper. This only serves the Chinese set menu. This is located on Deck 8, Aft section of the ship. Reservation is required.
  • The Lido. This serves Asian and international buffet, including Halal and Indian cuisines. The outdoor area of the restaurant is a 24-hour snack place that also serves morning tea and afternoon tea. This is located on Deck 16, Aft section.

Dream Dining Room Upper and Lower have a ballroom hall-themed setting and floor-to-ceiling windows that afford guests the magnificent views of the ocean.

Note: Alcoholic drinks are not free-of-charge.

You may also try the specialty restaurants! Genting Dream has nine. Charges apply when dining at any of these, but if you are craving any of their offerings, go for it. Here are your options:

  • Umi Uma (Japanese Cuisine and Teppanyaki / Korean BBQ; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Hot Pot (Choice of meat, seafood or vegetarian hot pot; outdoor setting; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best (Western Dishes / Steak; Deck 8, Mid)
  • Seafood Grill by Mark Best (Western Dishes / Seafood; Deck 8, Mid)
  • Gelateria (Homemade Gelato; Deck 8, Aft)
  • Blue Lagoon (Hawker Food / Asian and International; Deck 7, Mid, open 24 hours)
  • Lobby Café (Coffee / Tea / Bread; Deck 6, Mid)
  • Silk Road Chinese Restaurant (Chinese Fine Dining; Deck 6, Forward)
  • Crystal Life Cuisine (Healthy Options; Deck 15, Forward)

Shore Excursions (Shorex)

To put it simply, these are pre-arranged tours at every stop. One of the best things I love about cruising is that you get to visit other countries while enjoying the cruise ship’s amenities and features at the same time.

This time with Genting Dream, we took the weekend getaway package with a stop at Bintan Island in Indonesia. For this stop, there are three Shorex options to choose from: Tanjung Urban Explorer, Scuba Tryout at Trikora Coast, and Bintan Black Coral Leisure Diving. We took the first option which includes Gurun Pasir Busung (sand desert), Telaga Biru (Blue Oasis), and Trily Resort Center Mangrove Forest in the itinerary.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

You can also pull a D-I-Y. It’s up to you. Here are the scenarios:

  • Booking a Shorex. This is the same as joining a guided group tour. You won’t have to worry about getting to one attraction to the next or how much it will cost you because everything, including the meal, will be taken care of for you by the local tour operator partners. You can be assured that you will return to the ship on time.
  • Pulling a D-I-Y. You can travel at your own pace and control your itinerary. It is also a cheaper option. BUT, you need to be aware of the time. Make sure that you return to the port on time or earlier because the ship will not wait for you. It will leave, with or without you.

Whatever you choose, you will be given a small sheet of paper upon disembarkation. This usually contains instructions and the address of the port where the ship is docked. Don’t forget to bring your Access Card and a photocopy of your passport bio page.

Note: Some Shorex options may require a lot of walking or trekking or activities that might not be suitable for those with health issues. Carefully check the itinerary and assess if the tour is viable for you. Also, each tour needs a minimum number of participants. A tour may be canceled if it doesn’t meet the minimum requirement.

Room and Amenities

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Genting Dream has four types of accommodations: Interior Stateroom, Oceanview Stateroom, Balcony Stateroom, and the exclusive suites, collectively referred to as The Palace. Since the ship caters to families and big groups, there are over 100 connecting rooms. About 70 percent of accommodations feature spacious balcony staterooms. Aside from the toiletries and towels, the rooms also have haird ryer, mini-refrigerator, safe, water kettle, complimentary bottled water, tea, coffee, and sugar packets. These are replenished daily as housekeeping do regular cleaning.

The cheapest is the Interior Stateroom. If you want to make the most of the ship’s features, you will probably be spending most of your time outside the room — swimming, sunbathing, eating, playing, shopping, watching shows or going on shore excursions.

Here are some amenities that you can enjoy for FREE:

  • Ropes Course. Perfect bonding activity for the family, couples, and groups. Complete the course and punctuate it with the 35-meter zipline, gliding along the side of the ship above the water from Deck 18.
  • Sportsplex. A large outdoor court that can host basketball, tennis, archery, bubble soccer, and other physical games. Located on Deck 19, Aft.
  • Rock Climbing Wall. Wear proper footwear. Located on Deck 18, Aft.
  • Mini-Golf. Nine-hole putting course. Please wear proper sports shoes. Located on Deck 18, Aft.

If you like to shop or bring home some souvenirs, you can get duty-free items from The Dream Boutiques located on Decks 6 and 7. The Dream Store/Souvenir Mart, located on Deck 6, is where you can get Dream Cruises merchandise. If you fell in love with one of the artworks you see inside the ship, you can go to the Art Gallery, located on Deck 8, to purchase a copy of that artwork.

Evening Shows and Events

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

The night is as exciting as the day onboard Genting Dream. You can choose from brilliant live production shows brought to you by the award-winning international entertainment team. During our cruise, we have two choices: SONIO – A Tale of Two Dreams and Some Like It Hot. We were able to watch the latter at Zodiac Theatre. You need to reserve your seat for the show at the Box Office on Deck 6 (Mid). You can find the opening hours of the Box Office on the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory sheet provided in your cabin.

If you want to brush up on your moves and still got the energy to dance the night away, let Zouk and Zouk Beach Club orchestrate an unforgettable party for you as it brings the best beats by world-class DJs. Both are located on Deck 17. Zouk is Singapore’s most sought-after nightclub and consistently chosen one of the top ten clubs in the world.

If you booked a 5-night cruise, expect a grand night party on the last night called Dream Night. This usually happens at the pool deck. You can also check out the bars if you just want to have a sip and unwind. Here are some of them: Sun Deck Bar (Deck 17/Mid), Pool Deck Bar (Deck 16/Mid), Red Lion (Deck 7/Mid/24 hours), Bar 360 (Deck 6/Mid), Karaoke (five rooms/Deck 6/Mid), and Bar City, a collection of bars in one area: Johnnie Walker House, Penfolds Wine Vault, Mixt Cocktail Bar, Humidor Cigar Lounge, and Bubbles Champagne Bar (Deck 8/Mid).

Cinema at Sea

For movie enthusiasts, you can still watch while on board. Depending on the schedule, here are the places to catch flicks: Zodiac Theatre (Deck 7/Forward), Zouk Beach Club (Deck 17/Aft), and the Lobby (Deck 6/Mid). Check the Dream Daily/Dream Weekender directory sheet for the venue and the time.

Yes! You can connect to the internet while at sea. How? Subscribe to WiFi through the Dream Cruises Mobile App. Here are the rates. Note: Rates vary depending on how many days and the package type.

  • Standard: SGD19 – SGD95. Good for e-mail, chat, and social media. You can connect up to two devices.
  • Premium: SGD29 – SGD145. Good for e-mail, chat, social media, and light media streaming. You can connect up to two devices.

Checking Out and Disembarkation

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

The day before disembarkation, you will receive a Disembarkation Notice explaining the check out procedure, disembarkation procedure, travel document collection, and baggage collection.

  • If you don’t want to carry your luggage throughout the disembarkation process, you may leave it outside your cabin on or before the specified time. Set aside a small carry on bag for all the important stuff such as your wallet, your travel documents, prescribed medicine, etc. Get your luggage at the Baggage Claim Area after going through the immigration process.
  • Settle your account’s balance before checking out to avoid delays during disembarkation. Reminder: A mandatory gratuity of SGD21 per night is charged to EVERY guest. For guests staying in the suite, it’s SGD26 per night. This rule is not applicable to infants below two years old.

4 chocolatey christmas gift ideas from godiva, genting world dream cruises: 7 things you need to know before going on a cruise.

My family enjoys going on a cruise. I’ve been on a cruise getaway almost every consecutive year since I was 7 till I was in my teens and started realising that hanging out with my friends in malls is way cooler. Since then, I’ve never stepped onboard a cruise till two weeks ago. I guess going on a cruise is the next best thing to a staycation during this pandemic.

Even though it was my first time on Dream Cruises , I felt like I knew what to expect onboard the ship. You could say that I was rather well-prepared for the trip because my parents went several times with Dream cruises before and during the pandemic. They told me that it was as enjoyable and true enough, it isn’t a very fantastic trip even though everyone on social media is hyping about how fun it is to be on a cruise.

Nonetheless, I can’t deny the fact that it felt good to just step off the island and get out into the sea. So I wouldn’t discourage anybody from doing sea-cation but if you want to, here are 7 things you need to know before you go on a cruise with Dream Cruises.

Table of Contents

1. You can check in earlier than the given timing by Dream Cruises.

I’m not sure if Genting Dream Cruises will hate me for telling you this but you can actually head to the cruise centre to do the COVID-19 test earlier than your scheduled timings. I was scheduled for the test at 5.45 pm but I went to take my test around 12 pm. And regulars who have been to this cruise many times would also come way ahead of others.

The benefits of boarding the cruise early are plenty. You can get your lunch onboard at one of their inclusive restaurants (since your Dream Cruises ticket is inclusive of all meals onboard) or speciality restaurants (where you have to pay to dine). On top of that, you will have time to make reservations for the use of pools, gyms and other facilities. Given that most of us would have forked out hundreds of dollars for the cruise getaway, why not make your money’s worth by heading there early?

2. Be prepared to wait for a period of time before you go onboard.

If you’re not staying at one of their Palace suites, then do be prepared to wait and queue. When you reach Marina Bay Cruise centre, you have to head up to level 2 to deposit your luggage (if you wish to) and then head up to do your COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test (ART). The whole screening test took about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the crowd. Since we went there early, the waiting time isn’t very long. Within 5 minutes, we were asked to head to one of the booths to do the swab test.

After the test, we were ushered to the waiting area to wait for our results. Health Promotion Board will first notify you via your TraceTogether app before you receive the SMS notification.

After the test, you still got to queue to check in. They will check your passports and issue you the Tracey token which you must carry with you at all times. The boarding time is approximately 2 pm so we still have to wait for our turn to get on board. By the time, when it was our turn, it was already 2.30 pm.

Thus I would suggest bringing some things to do there in order to kill time. You can read a book or catch up with some work in the waiting area. They will also hand out their daily schedule or newsletter when you can find out what the events happening that day onboard. You can spend the time planning what you would like to do.

3. The food at Dream Cruises inclusive restaurants is not that great so be prepared to pay if you want better quality food.

Your Dream Cruises ticket is inclusive of all meals but you can only enjoy your ‘free meals’ at their inclusive restaurants like Dream Dining Room Lower (Western food), Dream Dining Room Upper (Chinese food) and the Lido (International buffet). We prefer dining at the Lido because you can try a variety of food. However, they are some hits and misses. I would say the food there is average but at least, you get to try some spicy food from the halal section or Indian food at their vegetarian section. Somehow the breakfast nasi lemak there tastes pretty good. Do try it!

If you did not already know, Dream Cruises is a halal-friendly cruise with halal dining options. Currently, the halal food section is only available at The Lido and the snack bar. There is also a prayer room on Deck 5.

As for the beverages, they serve syrup processed juices. If you want quality drinks like a glass of fresh fruit juice or iced lemon tea, you will have to pay extra for it.

The food standard at the Dream Dining Room Lower was especially poor. I think we’ve been served dishes which were made out of cheap ingredients. We did not quite enjoy the western breakfast we had because it was obviously prepared in a haste.

The Chinese food at Dream Dining Room Upper tasted slightly better. That explains why this restaurant is always packed and sometimes you will have to queue to get in. On some occasions, we were asked to head to other restaurants because the restaurant has reached its full capacity.

We heard that the speciality restaurants like Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best and Umi Uma offers great food but we did not want to fork out extra since we have already forked out $500 just for this sea-cation. A more affordable option is to dine at The lobby cafe on Deck 6. They offer several local food dishes and pastries at affordable prices.

4. There’s a 24-hour snack bar and you can pack food to bring to your rooms to eat.

There’s a 24-hour snack bar where you can munch on potato wedges, chicken nuggets, curry puffs, fried bee hoon and other small bites like buns and sandwiches.

They also provide drinks like apple juice, orange juice, coffee, tea and milk. Strangely, I’ve seen several people asking for milk which is dispensed from the machine. It tastes just like UHT milk except that it is cold and a little frothy.

And if you are feeling peckish at night, you can actually ask them to pack so that you can bring it back to the room to eat. By the way, you can also do take-aways for your meals if you want to have your meals in the room. You can call their reception and make a request.

5. The Balcony State Rooms at Dream Cruises are superb and well-furnished.

We got the Balcony Deluxe stateroom which is only slightly bigger than the Balcony stateroom. I believe that there isn’t much of a difference between the rooms except for the size of it.

I can’t complain anything about the room except that the curtains appeared to be quite dusty. Other than that, everything else is great. I love their ultra-comfy mattress and beddings. The ensuite bathroom is well-maintained and very clean. It even has a bathtub!

There’s a small balcony where you can go out to sunbathe. It’s nice to just chill at the balcony and enjoy some quiet time to yourself. You can also hang your laundry there if you intend to wash some of your clothes.

Toiletries like toothbrushes, shampoo, body soap, lotion and hair conditioner are all provided. There’s a hairdryer installed under the dressing table too.

6. You will need to make reservations to use the swimming pools, jacuzzi and gym.

Due to the strict social distancing measures, they can only allow a certain number of people to be using these facilities for a limited period of time. I recommend making your reservations right after you board the ship. Otherwise, you may have to queue just to book a slot. You are only entitled to use the pool or jacuzzi for up to 1 hour per day.

The gym is another popular spot too. It’s usually fully booked and we regret not booking it on the first day. We ended up having to wait until someone leaves so that we can enter the gym. However, I must say that the gym is pretty amazing. It is a state-of-the-art gym equipped with advanced training and exercise equipment. I enjoy using treadmills and other exercise machines but could only stay up to an hour and a half.

As for the pool slides, you just have to queue and wait for your turn. We did not try their slides but judging by what we saw, the slides are only frequented by kids.

7. You can join their free workshops, activities and attend the evening shows.

One of the Dream Cruises highlights is the evening entertainment. There’s usually a magic show or acrobatic performances onboard. At Dream cruise, these shows are held at the Zodiac Theatre on Deck 7. Bookings can be made via their Dream Cruise app. (Do not that the usage of the Dream Cruises app is free of Wi-fi charges.)

In all honesty, I didn’t quite enjoy the shows presented to us. Each show is only 45 minutes long and some parts of it were entertaining and some were not.

As for the workshops and classes, some are complimentary while some require you to pay. The free workshops are popular and they usually get snapped up real first. It’s on a first-come-first-serve basis so you have to arrive about 30 minutes earlier at the location to reserve a spot for yourself. We actually could not take part in some of the workshops because, by the time we reached the venue, it was all fully booked.

Again, it’s all due to the safe distancing measures where they had to keep the group size small. I guess you could say we were utterly disappointed and bored during the trip.

If you want to try out their Rope course, you will also have to queue and wait for your turn. Due to the rain, the attraction wasn’t open for the most part of our trip. Hence, we did not try out the Rope course or the mini-golf.

Another attraction to check out is their Esc Experience Centre which is located on Deck 17. It’s a VR/AR arcade centre and it is equipped with some of the latest gadgets and simulators. However, you will have to pay for the experience. On the last night of the trip, they will usually offer happy hour deal where you can enjoy 2 games at the price of SGD 22.

My Verdict of Dream Cruises

Overall, it was a good getaway for me and my husband but we both did not quite enjoy our trip on board Dream Cruises at all. The long waiting time and queues are the downsides to the whole cruise experience. Service also wasn’t that great idea. I had trouble contacting their reception for help after 8 pm.

When I posted a video of my Dream Cruises experience on TikTok, some of the followers recommended the Royal Caribbean cruise. So we might explore that cruise next time but as for now, we are really hoping to travel across borders soon.

Top 10 exciting things to dive into aboard the Genting Dream cruise

Pavin Chopra

Resorts World Cruises (RWC) is flying (and floating!) high with Singaporeans snapping up tickets on the Genting Dream since its inaugural post-Covid voyage in June 2022 .

rws - ship

In mid-October, I jumped at the chance to discover this seaborne wonderland on a 4-day, 3-night cruise to Malaysia that included stops at Kuala Lumpur and Penang .

rws - palace suite

This time, it was in the luxury of The Palace , RWC’s all-suite concept within Genting Dream. My 37 m 2 Palace Suite came with a gigantic bed, huge sofa and a really big balcony for a ship! I could have lounged around in there all day if not for the vast array of exciting activities that lured me out every day. Here are 10 of them.

1. The Palace experience

rws - palace suite bed

The Palace is like an exclusive ship within a ship. However, the royal experience begins even before you board. Guests receive VIP lounge access at the terminal and fast-tracked security clearance as well as priority luggage handling at embarkation (and disembarkation).

Board, and the real magnificence begins. First, there is a private restaurant where you can dine away from the crowds every mealtime.

rws - pool

There’s even an exclusive access card-activated Palace elevator that takes you to The Palace club with its own pools, jacuzzis and lounge.

Your 24-hour butler will handle anything you throw at them, from making reservations for shows and meals to finding a safety pin for your dress (true story!). There’s exclusive access to restaurants and premium seating at shows, all with no queueing. All Happy Hour drinks are free, every day.

rws - closet

Stay connected in the middle of the ocean with complimentary Wi-Fi and sleep like a baby on luxurious beds fitted with premium Italian linen. If you’re looking for a ‘dream’ getaway, The Palace has my strongest recommendation!

2. Night bowling

rws - bowling alley

Alone, in a pair, or as a family, who doesn’t love bowling? If you crave that beautifully satisfying sound of pins flying in all directions, Genting Dream’s polished lanes will let you have your fill from late night to early in the morning. Located on a high deck so you have a view of the sky and the sea, it is a hotbed of fun and excitement every evening.

The best thing is that if you throw a gutter ball, you can always blame it on the supposed rocking of the ship!

Night bowling brings a really fun vibe to the experience, with the lighting and pumping music adding to an already exciting affair. Zouk Club is just next door so if you’re feeling exhausted from all the heaving and throwing, liquid rescue is always at hand.

If you find bowling balls too heavy, head over to the pool tables located right next to the alley for more manageable ones.

3. Live Shows

rws - stage show

I am so surprised but I enjoyed the shows on board the Genting Dream even more than the last time. RWC has gathered one of the most talented troupes of performers I have had the privilege to see live in action.

It doesn’t matter if you have never been to a live show before; there is something for everyone here— death-defying acrobatics, modern dance, traditional Chinese opera, Bollywood numbers, and a whole lot of zany antics. Hats off to both the performers and the choreographers for creating such an enjoyable medley.

rws - entertainment on stage

The Love Matters show was especially good and the audience participation element makes this production a real deal-sealer. The talented performers and emcees had the entire audience rolling with laughter. Pro tip: if you are the shy type like I am, just tell the ushers to put you in one of the non-participation seats.

4. Learn to salsa

rws - salsa dancing

The show performers don’t just work out and lounge about looking pretty when the shows end. No, they make themselves very useful by conducting dance classes. I have always wanted to learn one of the Latin dances and Genting Dream gave me the chance to at least dip my toes in the water, so to speak.

Remember, no one expects you to learn to dance on your cruise; these classes are about letting your hair down on holiday and picking up some small pointers to help you learn quickly when you really get down to serious lessons back on dry land. And the fact that the instructors are heavenly cute (and fit!) only adds to the thrill.

5. Excursions

The sheer size of Genting Dream and the range of activities available on board will hardly make you yearn for terra firma . However, if you are confident you have got your sea legs, make the trip ashore for a dose of culture and discovery. The 2 stops on this cruise were Port Klang and Penang Island.

rws - batu caves

When Genting Dream docks at Port Klang on Day 2, a tour bus will take you to Kuala Lumpur after first stopping at Batu Caves and Chinatown. Then, it’s on to the shopping paradise of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur with its 700 restaurants and retail outlets.

rws - murals

On Day 3, Genting Dream arrives at Penang Island. Similarly, a tour bus takes guests on a tour of the cultural, historical and popular sights about town.

6. Zip lining

rws - zipline

Yes, zip lining is cool enough but how about doing it off the edge of a 20-storey chasm above the ocean? Now, that’s what you get on board (or, more accurately, off the side of) Genting Dream. Better still for thrill seekers, the launch platform of the zipline is located at the end of an optional high obstacle course in a setup very similar to Sentosa’s Mega Adventure .

I skipped the obstacle course but the zipline gave me a nice little adrenaline rush. As someone very nervous about heights, I’d say that it’s long enough to give you a thrill but not so much so that it’s upsetting.

rws - rock climbing wall

Just adjacent to the rope course and zipline course is the rock-climbing wall with 5 different levels of difficulty. All of these are included in every cruise package.

rws - dining collage

Some people tell me they go on cruises for the food and for those people, Genting Dream is, well, a dream.

Dining at 2 restaurants— The Lido and Dream Dining — is included, free. Just walk in at meal times and grab a table. There are several fine dining options, too. They are complimentary for The Palace guests but others can make reservations and pay before disembarking.

rws - umiuma

My favourite dining experience was at Uni Uma , which specialises in Japanese teppanyaki . The dinner performance consisting of eggs being spun about and juggled off the edge of spatulas, food origami and a beating heart of rice (you need to see it) were immensely entertaining and had the tables ooh-ing in amazement and roaring with laughter.

rws - food collage

Bistro is where you should head if you want fine steak (and a reason to dress up) while Hot Pot delivered a dinner that far exceeded my expectations of a cruise meal.

8. Foam Party at Zouk Beach Club

rws - foam party

If ‘foam party’ and ‘Zouk’ aren’t enough to give your party persona a shot in the arm individually, putting them together just might! Held on the deck from the late afternoon, the Zouk Beach Club Foam Party is a family-friendly version that sees guests of all ages let down their hair and dance their cares away.

It is held in an amphitheatre-like venue so if you are shy or just want to let your eyes do the work, have a drink delivered to your lounge or sunbed and ogle away. Shout out to the resident DJ for spinning some of my favourites, new and old.

rws - casino area

Let’s call a spade a spade: there’s no thrill like the thrill of anticipation as you wait for the final reveal in any game in the casino. I lost a *ahem* very nominal amount but the rattling sound that the roulette ball makes on the wheel as it totters towards its fated destination still makes me yearn for those green tables.

Genting Dream has almost every game that you could wish to play. Or maybe not, but I’m no gambler and there were way more games than I recognised. Outside the casino, you will find simpler games of chance such as the ‘coin pusher’ machine.

Another crowd favourite is Bingo, which is held in the main lobby area, and it seemed to be in progress every single time I passed through.

rws - spa

Well, you are on holiday so why would you not while the time away in the spa? Crystal Life Spa is your getaway from the noise and frenetic activity that pervades all cruise ships where people are having a lot of fun.

Offering a range of Asian and Western wellness treatments, this is your destination for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Bonus: The RWC Genting Dream team!

No experience is enjoyable without the people factor and this is where RWC and Genting Dream truly excel. All the staff that I had the pleasure of interacting with on board, from my butler, Noel and the wait staff to the zipline operators and the tour guide, were extremely hospitable. Each went out of his or her way to not just meet my needs but to anticipate them before I said a word.

I had a wonderful time on board and can’t wait to go a-cruising aboard RWC Genting Dream again real soon!

Cruising Experience with Genting Dream by Dream Cruises

Check out my experience on board with Genting Dream Cruise – what activities you can do, restaurants to try, and list of entertainments including shows and casino!

I did the cruising twice, one was 5D4N Singapore – Surabaya – North Bali – Singapore , the second one was 3D2N cruising from Singapore – Port Klang – Singapore .

When was the last time I did cruising, nearly 18 years ago!

Yep, I was still a little kid at that time.

I could only recall a few things, things that of course a kid would love – swimming pool, circus, and casino.

Wait, casino? How was a kid supposed to know about casino?

Easy, that’s where my parents would go right after me and my siblings fell asleep.

And now, 18 years later, I had a chance to be back on cruise again – this time with Genting Dream Cruise .

So, let’s jump in to my Genting Dream Cruise review!

Getting on Board with Genting Dream Cruise

Entering the port, I saw this big building on distance, and it wasn’t a building.

It’s the ship that I’m going to board, man it’s huge!

The port was busy, with guests from the cruise hopping down on shore to get souvenirs or just to stay on land.

While some other local audiences just hang around the port to marvel this big ship, something that can be rarely seen.

We cleared the registration ( make sure you bring your passport ) and headed up to the room.

I had a double room with a balcony outside . It’s bigger than I thought.

The bed was super comfy, seriously I had perfect sleep throughout the night.

There’s a sofa to lay down when I’m not wearing my pajamas, complete set of sandals and bathrobes, oh and I love their shower gel, smells good.

The little balcony is perfect to chill or to watch sunset.

I’m super ready to explore Genting Dream Cruise!

Eat while you can

One of a friend told me; before you start cruising, measure your weight and after you’re back home, you’ll be surprised!

Now I understand why.

There’s no way to not stuffing yourself with all these yummy food.

With restaurants serving high quality food, ranging from Asian to Western Cuisine, you’ll forget all your dietaries rule and, just feed yourself.

The inclusive restaurants in Genting Dream are Lido Restaurant and Dream Dining Room .

Lido Restaurant serves more varieties of food with buffet style while Dream Dining Room serves Chinese cuisine.

I had my breakfast normally in these restaurants.

The other restaurants that I also tried were the Hotpot, Bistro by Mark Best, Blue Lagoon, and Umi Uma .

blue lagoon restaurant genting dream cruise review

If I had to choose one of my favorite restaurants ,  I think I’ll go for Bistro by Mark Best and Umi Uma ( sorry, I can’t decide between these two ).

I think the food at the Bistro is just on another level for fine dining.

The tenderloin steak was soft and juicy with seasoning on point and the mouth-watering matcha mousse just melt when you take a spoon of it.

Thinking of it now makes me regret, why didn’t I order more food?

Tenderloin steak the Bistro Genting Dream

My other favorite restaurant in Genting Dream Cruise is Umi Uma Restaurant .

You can guess from its name that it’s a Japanese Restaurant, meaning that there’ll be sushi, sashimi, bento, udon ( I love them all!).

The highlight of this restaurant is the teppanyaki performance .

You’ll be sitting around a table with a chef cooking right on your face.

The chefs are very entertaining.

They pull off some fun attractive moves such as singing, juggling, like, spinning the eggs and throw them to the chef’s hat while cooking your food.

I really enjoy the interactions between the chefs and the guests, the atmosphere in the restaurant is full of excitement.

You definitely have to go to Umi Uma.

Other activities and entertainments in Genting Dream Cruise

Frankly, I was thinking what could I do inside the ship for such a long time.

But after all the experiences in Genting Dream Cruise, clearly there’s nothing to worry about.

There are so many things to do and you won’t get bored for sure.

Again, the ship is huge. Sometimes I still forgot the direction back to my room.

Let’s have a look what’s inside Genting Dream, shall we?

1. Zodiac Theater

Every night there will be show scheduled in Zodiac Theater.

With shimmering outfits and stage, the talented performers will stun you with their dancing skills and acrobatic movements.

Voyage of the Lovers Dream is a must to watch in Genting Dream Cruise.

The theatrical show will take you to a fantasy world of the unique love story between the mermaid and the astronaut.

Some dances can be powerful, some features remarkable ballet moves. For me it’s a night to remember.

entertainment in genting dream cruise

2. The Bridge Tour

See what it’s like to be on a captain seat with the Bridge Tour.

The Bridge is the most important area of the ship where the captain and his officers control and ensure that the ship runs safely on the sea.

The crew, as a guide will explain how to see the numbers on screen telling the depth of the sea, the speed, etc.

You may also have a conversation with the friendly officers.

the bridge captain room

3. Pool, Water Slide, and Sportplex

Pool and sportplex area always get busy during the day.

There’s always be activities prepared by the crew such as games, aerobic, and many more.

I didn’t try the water slide but I bet it’s gonna be fun.

There’s even a basketball court on the ship! I did the wall-climbing, rope course, and the flying-fox.

The flying-fox is one of my best experience on the ship, it’s nerve-wrecking.

Imagine you’re zip-lining from one end to another with wide open sea below, and it’s like 35 meters high!

playground dream cruise

4. Crystal Life Fitness and Spa

You may eat a lot but at least gotta burn some calories, agree?

Head to the Crystal Life Fitness Center in Genting Dream Cruise and do some cardio workout or weight-lifting, even better.

Believe me, doing workout facing the sea is not things you can do regularly, except on the cruise-so make it count!

Then you can spoil yourself with the spa treatment, what a life!

5. Bar Hopping!

Need a bit of alcohol intake to make yourself a bit more relax?

Bars are just on every corner of Dream Cruise.

If you’d like to drink while getting your tan line under the sun then Pool Deck Bar or Sun Deck Bar is the place for you.

Champagne lovers? Straight to the Bubbles Champagne Bar .

I prefer the Johnnie Walker House as a fan of whisky ( sounds like an old man, eh ).

Look at this gorgeous Whisky Constellation Wall, offering a comprehensive index of Scotch whisky distilleries.

6. Zouk Club and Zouk Beach Club

Surprisingly, my favorite club, Zouk is inside the Genting Dream.

I was a regular at the Zouk Club Kuala Lumpur and knowing that there’s another Zouk inside the cruise reminds me of that old nights.

The DJs were great, also the lights and lasers are sick, surely meet the Zouk’s standard.

If you wanna chill a bit you can go next door to play bowling or billiard.

Another best moment in the Dream Cruise.

7. Genting Casino

Like my parents, cruising is a fun way to spend your money and bet for your luck in the casino.

Get the chips ready and hit the table, who knows you’ll bring a suitcase of dollars back home.

I don’t really see many tables on board. However, there’re some slot machines that you can play with.

The minimum bet for casino tables in Genting Dream Cruise ranges between SGD 100 – 200 .

For the machines, it shouldn’t cost that much, maybe around SGD 10 .

8. Party and Fireworks

The last night on the ship was full of blast! Everyone’s just dancing and had fun in the main pool deck.

No matter young or old, people just dance to the music and follow the movements by the crew on the stage, like a flashmob.

Looks like everyone enjoying their time, including me.

Before calling it a night, we watched the fireworks on the sea and time for sweet dreams.

Second time with Genting Dream Cruise

Far flung in the middle of the sea, a ship – immensely built and designed to award holiday-seekers with its most luxurious experience – sailed across the Malacca Strait from Singapore to Malaysia.

The art piece on the both sides of the vessel is tastefully crafted to leave a strong impression to anyone who lays eyes on it.

Genting Dream Cruise Singapore , set on its journey to entertain more than 3,000 passengers on board, including myself.

That could be a nice narrative for an intro or trailer of a movie, can you imagine that? haha .

I think I’m trying to hard to put a nice words – which I love to try for learning and practicing my writing.

So, recently I just had a trip with Genting Dream Cruise ( again! ) and I’m very excited to share it with you guys.

As you might have known, this was my second time, as always, it never failed to please me.

My Genting Dream Cruise Singapore Experience: Enroute Singapore – Port Klang – Singapore

The route that I had this time was an easy and fun 3D2N, cruising from Singapore to Port Klang and back to Singapore .

It’s also the most popular since it’s do-able for weekend trip.

Once I arrived at Marina Bay Cruise Centre , the giant ship was waiting calmly before embarking to its destination, Port Klang in Malaysia.

I couldn’t stop myself from admiring, even though it’s not my first time – either Genting Dream Cruise is too good-looking, or maybe I just missed her.

Same procedure, checking-in, clearing the immigration and custom, and lastly getting on board!

I won’t really go into details this time, cause I’ve written about it on my last post.

It’ll be more about my experience and things that I had not experience before, let’s get started!

Privacy at The Palace Suite

One thing that I noticed being in a large cruise ship was, obviously, in contact with a bee-swarm of other passengers who would likely use the facilities provided.

It can be quite overwhelming for those who prefer to enjoy the cruise peacefully.

Elevate your cruising experience by staying in The Palace – part boutique hotel, part private clubhouse – meticulously shaped to ensure absolute comfort.

Indulge in between these four different types of room or suite in The Palace: Palace Suite, Palace Deluxe Suite, Palace Penthouse, and Palace Villa .

palace suite genting dream cruise

An additional benefit for staying at The Palace is the exclusive facilities, privately accessible only for The Palace’s guests including the swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym, even dining area.

On the second day on Genting Dream Cruise, we had a chance to explore the swimming pool area, no one was there.

It might be too early for people to swim at that time but it’s  a good timing for us to hit every corner and get the best angle to capture nice picture.

If only I had the whole day just relaxing, putting all the itineraries prepared for us on the side, I probably could spend the rest of the day swimming and sun-bathing here on this deck.

There are two jacuzzis just right in the front facing the ocean.

The sun, blue sky, ocean, and fancy cruise, couldn’t ask for a better way to enjoy life!

chilling genting dream

Dine, Spa, and Entertainment in Genting Dream Cruise

One thing I worried the most, and I knew it would be hard for me to handle while I was with Genting Dream Cruise.

Guess what? It’s to hold the temptation to eat all the food served at the restaurants.

Every time I stepped into a restaurant, I needed to remind myself to control my eating, or else all the diet and workouts that I had done would be useless.

You all know what happened next, don’t you? Screw the diet, I’m on holiday!

The sound of clattering spatula hitting the iron plate table jumbled with the sizzling sound of the ingredients.

Occasionally, a gleeful voice shouting in a high pitch jacked up the chaos inside the room, a good chaos.

Umi Uma Restaurant was filled with happiness, laughter, and admiration thanks to the Kungfu Chef.

Here in Uma Umi Restaurant, the food that you order will be made on spot by the chef.

On top of that, with a good sense of humor, the chef entertains everyone as a starter before the food is served and enjoyed.

I ordered the Dream Ocean from the menu, the shrimp and scallop are the rock star, served with fried rice, miso soup, and refreshing salad.

I finished everything to the last bite.

That was my first sin, the second one was lunch at Bistro by Mark Best – which wasn’t so bad in a way – that the portion was still acceptable for my diet.

It’s a fine dining anyway, a small but punching food could take me literally to heaven, cause it’s so yum!

First, they brought us a basket of bread and a plate full of salami and prosciutto.

Next, for the appetizer, a bowl of thick cauliflower soup with a drop of caviar, all the flavor exploded in my mouth!

Then the main came, pan-seared cod  with a special creamy puree and to wrap everything up, a delicate green tea cake.

umi uma restaurant genting dream

Meanwhile, when we had a bit of free time, exploring the cruise on our own was the only thing to do, better than staying inside the room.

Deck 16 and 17 were the area in Genting Dream Cruise that we hung around the most.

It’s the open area and for sure, people would love to enjoy the sun and do outdoor activities.

Everything is free to use, from swimming pool, playground, flying fox, basketball court, and outdoor beach club.

playground genting dream experience

I did try a one-hour massage here in Crystal Life Spa .

The appearance of the furniture, decoration, and the choice of color was very nice, soft and relaxing.

Before entering the room, a form was given to me and I could choose which part of my body would get more attention later on, I chose neck and shoulder, my favorite area.

The full body massage began from my back, down to my legs, and ended up with a massage in my head.

It was good, the masseuse was attentive and questioned if the strength was good enough.

I fell asleep not long before the massage finished.

Crystal spa genting dream

In my previous trip with Genting Dream Cruise, I didn’t get the chance to watch China Got Talent .

That’s why I was very excited to see the show.

It felt like we’re the audience and the judges were projected on big screen, giving comments to the performers. Some acts were thrilling, some were creative.

It goes without saying, all these performers show their best talent to entertain everyone on board.

Go watch them yourself, I don’t wanna be a spoiler!

chinese got talent performer

Sadly, everything has come to an end. Three days were too quick.

I definitely wanna check other routes by Genting Dream Cruise, maybe to Japan, or Thailand.

Or maybe it’s sister cruise, World Dream Cruise, will see!

GENTING DREAM: Singapore – Bintan Cruise Itinerary

by thepinay solobackpacker | Oct 31, 2019 | Cruise Guide , Indonesia , Itinerary , Singapore | 0 comments

If there’s something that a decade of travel has taught me, it’s that the travel bug never fades. That’s why I like discovering new places, trying different ways of traveling, or revisiting familiar places and experiencing them in a different light.

Recently, I have tried a booming style of traveling – luxury cruising at a reasonable price via Genting Dream, a gigantic cruise ship that is designed to accommodate the fast-growing Asian Market.

Genting Hong Kong, Dream Cruises’ parent company has been the business of cruises for over 2 decades.  They launched Dream Cruises that offers luxury cruises focusing on Asia, but compared to traditional cruises, the rate is more reasonable. Currently there are 3 ships under the Dream Cruises fleet:

  • Explorer Dream – the main dream cruises vessel sailing in Australian
  • Genting Dream – offers varied Asian-based itineraries
  • World Dream – regularly sails to Hong Kong

TRAVEL BLOG CONTENTS

WHY CHOOSE GENTING DREAM?

If you want to experience a cruise for the first time, I highly recommend cruising with Genting Dream, it’s a great introduction to cruising for Filipinos and Southeast Asians because of the following reasons:

  • it’s affordable (compared to traditional luxury cruise lines)
  • it’s available throughout the year
  • it’s sailing to visa-free countries (Southeast Asia countries)

Let ‘s go into details.

1.GENTING DREAM IS REASONABLY-PRICED

“How much is the GENTING DREAM CRUISE? ” I often get this question. Cruises are pretty known to be expensive, yes, but with the tight competition nowadays, sailing on a cruise ship is getting more and more affordable. But while most cruises are now reasonably-priced, still, one of the reasons why many Filipino travelers are hesitant to book a cruise is the hassle and cost of booking a roundtrip flight from the Philippines to Singapore or to other port countries.

Good news is, Dream Cruises is not afraid to venture outside the box to deliver bold, luxurious, and affordable style of cruising.  They are currently offering special FLY CRUISE packages in partnership with Singapore Airlines . It means, you don’t need to worry about booking your flight from Manila to Singapore and vice versa because the roundtrip Manila-Singapore-Manila is already included the FLY CRUISE package ! And because it’s Singapore Airline, expect a high level of service. Promotion will run until December 31, 2019 for cruises sailing until March 31,2020, please refer the official website of Genting Dream Cruise.

IMPORTANT: The FLY AND CRUISE PACKAGE has been extended until December 31, 2019!!! For sail dates until March 31, 2020.

genting dream fly and cruise package

Another great thing about the FLY CRUISE package is, you don’t have to fly back to the Philippines right after your done with the Genting Dream Cruise.  You actually have the option to have your return flight to Manila stretched by booking your return flight from Singapore to Manila on an extended date.  So, for example if you wish to explore more of Singapore at your own expense or  perhaps make a side trip to the neighboring Malaysia, you can still extend for a few days in Singapore after your cruise.  Just make sure your return flight date is within the validity period of your free Singapore visa!

Take note though that since most cabins are generally good for 2 persons, it’s best to cruise with someone – your loved ones, child, friend, colleague, etc. so you can share the cost.  The rate below is per person rate, but I also included the Genting Dream cabin price list (good for 2 persons) below.

Here are  the sample rates for the current FLY CRUISE promotion .

2.GENTING DREAM CRUISE IS AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

While other cruise ships only offer cruise for a certain period or season (you have to adjust your schedule to fit the cruise dates since the sail date is limited), Genting Dream Cruise sails throughout the year in Southeast Asia.  So, every month, they have a schedule for varied routes in this region, that makes it more convenient for you to plot your vacation leaves. Best to book a couple of months ahead though to secure the more affordable cabins.

Here’s the schedule of the Genting Dream Cruise Itinerary (Singapore – Bintan – Singapore Cruise Dates). This is the same route we took recently.

3. GENTING DREAM CRUISE IS SAILING TO VISA-FREE COUNTRIES IN ASIA

Another notable reason why you should choose Genting Dream for your first cruise is, this vessel has many exciting Southeast Asia-based itineraries (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam) that are visa-free for Philippine Passport holders, Singaporeans, Malaysians, Indonesians, Vietnamese and Thai. So, you don’t have to fret about visa processing. Talk about less hassle.

GENTING DREAM: CRUISE GUIDE FOR FIRST TIMERS

If you’ve already made up your mind in choosing Genting Dream Cruise for your first cruise experience, here’s a detailed guide to help you plan your trip.

PRE-TRIP PREPARATION

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS: Prepare your passport , photocopy of your passport bio page , visa (if necessary), and copy of your cruise ticket .  But if you are a Philippine Passport holder, no visa is needed since the cruise destinations for Genting Dream is within Southeast Asia. Please ensure that your passport has at least 6 months validity from the end of your cruise date with at least 2 blank pages for entry stamp.

If you’re traveling with a child that has a different family name from the parent, you should present the child’s valid passport and visa (if needed), including the child’s birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy). The name of the parent and the child must be linked through legal documents.

If a child is traveling with an adult who is not a legal guardian, s/he is required to provide the child’s birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy) as well as a signed authorization letter (original and certified copy) by at least one parent and a DSWD clearance.

Also, a minor illegitimate child who is traveling abroad accompanied by the biological father only is required to secure a travel clearance certificate as parental authority is vested only to the mother of the child, per article 176 of the Family Code of the Philippines. However, if a Court Order has granted parental authority to the father, a DSWD travel clearance is not required.

For more information on the DSWD travel clearance for  Filipino minors, CLICK HERE.  You may need to present the above mentioned documents to Immigration Officials, and the documents will be collected upon check-in formalities. For more information, contact Genting Dream Cruise.

Take note that guests are responsible for obtaining all required travel documents before departure.  If you fail to complete the necessary travel documents, then you will be denied boarding and there’s no refund or compensation.

LUGGAGE:  Pack like you would for a resort vacation.  Bring swimwear and sunblock if you want to use the pool and bring appropriate workout clothes if you want to use the gym.  And while I encourage you to bring comfortable clothes, you may want to consider bringing at least one formal or casual outfit that you can wear to a formal dinner or when watching a show. Shorts and slippers are ONLY allowed in open pool decks and Lido Restaurant, so remember to pack your shoes. Cruise holidays are typically casual by day, and by evening, the dress code varies by establishment or occasion.

You can bring as many OOTD outfits as you like, but remember that each guest is only allowed to bring up to 2 pieces of personal luggage onboard. Also, check with the airline for baggage policy and the maximum weight for your check-in baggage, which is usually indicated on your airline ticket.

Luggage check-in will be available at the check-in counter. Do not check-in your medicine or important travel documents to avoid delays. Remember that bringing raw food is prohibited as they are subject to local quarantine regulations. Flying a drone isn’t allowed on a cruise ship, so better not to carry one to avoid the hassle of being interrogated by Immigration Officials for bringing a drone onboard a cruise ship. For the convenience of other guests and to help ensure the most sanitary staterooms, pets are not allowed onboard.

Changi Lounge is now offering the Fly-Cruise Transfer Service to help facilitate intermodal travel.  The Fly Cruise Transfer Service is a seamless transfer service for passengers flying into Singapore and sailing out on ferries and cruise lines such as Genting Dream Cruise Ship. I’ll discuss this in detail below under the CHECK-IN Procedure .  Basically, your check-in luggage will be seamlessly transferred from your arriving flight in Changi into your cruise ship. So, you don’t have to worry about it, because Changi Lounge will take care of it for you.  You will just meet your luggage at your cabin!

TOILETRIES: Even though Genting Dream Cruise ship provides toiletries such as shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, cotton buds, and tissues, if you want to avoid the use of single-use plastic, you can bring your own toiletries.

Also, since the tap water in the stateroom is good for drinking, you may bring your own water bottle to refill.  But there’s also bottled mineral water in the cabin, which is refilled daily.

POWER SOCKET: Bring travel adapter as most of the power socket are China sockets, but there’s  also a USB socket on each side of the bed, very convenient for phone charging. Extension wires are usually prohibited from cruise ships so avoid bringing one.

CURRENCY: The currency onboard is Singapore Dollar.  Money changer is also available onboard.  But if you are going to join the Shore Excursion or you will be doing a private tour, prepare the currency for your travel destination. In our case, since Bintan Island (part of Indonesia) is our destination, I made sure I have Indonesian Rupiah in case I want to buy something.

TIME: While onboard the Genting Dream, Singapore time is used. Adjust your watch if needed.

WIFI : You may use the onboard Wi-Fi service for a fee to stay connected online. Wi-Fi fee will cost you SGD 19 (PHP 714) for 1 night and SGD 38 (PHP 1,428) for 2 nights.  It’s not the best internet because usually the connection is intermittent, but at least you’d be able to access Instagram, Facebook, e-mail, WhatsApp, Viber, etc.

DREAM CRUISE APP :  It’s highly recommended to download the Dream Cruise Mobile App prior to embarkation. You can use this  helpful app to view the daily timetable of activities, show time, restaurant open hours and menus, availability of cruise facilities, and monitor a detailed breakdown of onboard purchases charged to your stateroom (if there is any).  Also, if you don’t have internet, you can use the Dream Cruise App to stay connected with your loved ones or peers onboard since it has a built-in instant messaging function for guest onboard.

CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

Genting Dream’s home port is Marina Bay Cruise Center in Singapore, this is where you will board the ship so make your way there. It’s advisable to arrive at Marina Bay Cruise Port at least 1 hour before your scheduled departure. Ensure you have all your travel documents as you need this for the check-in procedure.

Take note that guests need to present present their cruise tickets at check-in counter to claim their stateroom key card . The key card is essential to be able to enjoy the cruise lifestyle, it will serve your access to your cabin room and it works like a credit card as you can charge the products or services you purchase inside the cruise ship here. You can settle your account on the last day of your cruise. So, never lose your key card, as it contains your personal information and other people can charge to the card. In case you lose it, go to the reception right away and request for a replacement access card so the lost card can be cancelled.

Online check-in for Genting Dream is available from 7 days up to 24 hours in advance prior to departure. CLICK HERE    to check-in. For guests who checked-in online, there will be designated counters.

IMPORTANT: If you didn’t book the FLY CRUISE TRANSFER SERVICE ,  you can go directly to Marina Bay Cruise Center to check-in and drop your luggage.

FLY CRUISE TRANSFER SERVICE

Again, as I mentioned above, Changi Lounge is now offering the Fly-Cruise Transfer Service to help facilitate intermodal travel.  The Fly Cruise Transfer Service is a seamless transfer service for passengers flying into Singapore and sailing out on ferries and cruise lines such as Genting Dream Cruise Ship.

If you avail of the Fly-Cruise Transfer service, after clearing Immigration and security check at Changi Airport, just go straight  to Changi Lounge at Jewel Changi Airport Service.

Basically, if you book this service, you will enjoy the following:

genting dream cruise

♥ Seamless Bag Transfer. Upon checking-in your luggage at the airport in Manila, the staff of Singapore Airlines will place a special tag on your luggage, and your luggage from Changi Airport to Genting Dream cruise ship will be seamlessly transferred to your cabin!  Verify this with the airline crew upon check-in or upon your arrival at Changi Airport in Singapore for your peace of mind.

♥  Advance cruise check-in at Changi Lounge . You can check-in to your cruise in advance at Changi Lounge and get your key card. No need to check-in at Marina Bay Cruise Center.

♥  Enjoy Changi Lounge facilities. Aside from the stress-free transfer to Marina Bay Cruise Center, you can also enjoy the free flow of refreshments, complimentary buffet, internet connection, power socket, and business facilities at the Changi Lounge. There’s also a shower room and napping amenities here.

♥  Enjoy Jewel Changi Attractions. While you are at it, don’t miss the Jewel Changi Airport attractions, such as the Instagram-worthy Rain Vortex (FREE) and the Changi Experience (adult – SGD 25, child/senior SGD 17).

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

The HSBC Rain Vortex is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall where harvested rainwater cascades through the oculus on the roof of Jewel Changi and streams down seven floors to Level B2.  Interestingly, the new sky train connecting Changi Airport Terminal 2 and 3 runs through the interior of  Jewel, so if you are aboard the train, you can get a closer look at the Rain Vortex.

Meanwhile, the Changi Experience Studio is a newly opened digital attraction at Level 4 of Jewel Changi featuring interactive exhibits, immersive shows, gallery exhibits and interactive games that all begins with a simple piece of cardboard that serves as your travel guide! Talk about new level of fun!  I’ll discuss both of them details on a separate blogpost.

♥ Convenient Ground Transfer.   Your transportation from Jewel Changi Airport will also be fully covered, so expect a comfortable and stress-free journey by bus to Marina Bay Center.

IMMIGRATION

After check-in at Marina Bay Cruise Center, follow the sign to the Immigration where you need to clear Immigration. Present your passport, cruise ticket, and other travel documents if needed.  Then, you need to pass through security check.

There are 2 lines for boarding; one line is dedicated to The Palace (the most expensive stateroom) guests, and the other line is for the rest of the passengers.  Upon boarding the Genting Dream cruise ship, present your key card and passport. The crew will take your passport. Don’t fret as this is a standard procedure. They will keep your passport throughout the sailing period and you can get it back before check-out and disembarking the vessel at the end of the cruise.

In my experience, despite the bulk of passengers and long queue at the Immigration and security check-in, boarding the Genting Dream vessel was a relatively organize and smooth process.

SAFETY DRILL

There’s a mandatory muster drill for all guests before the ship sails. The safety drill will explain all the safety procedures in the unlikely event of an emergency, e.g. how to put on your life jacket, where to assemble, and location of the emergency exits.  It’s important to remember that there are still rules that cruisers need to obey when at sailing at sea and if you fail to comply to these rules, it could result in you getting kicked off the vessel or banned for life in Genting Dreams. So, no matter how tired or lazy you are or how many times you’ve been on a cruise, you must attend the safety drill. Period.

GENTING DREAM CRUISE REVIEW

When I first saw the Genting Dream Cruise Ship, I find it strikingly fine-looking and gigantic. After all, this German-built vessel (built by Meyer Werft at Papenburg, Germany) takes pride in being the first ship built under Genting Hong Kong’s premium cruise line brand Dream Cruises, and became the first Asian brand to offer premium cruises. Its neck-swiveling hull art entitled “Voyage of Lover’s Dream”’, a love story between a mermaid and an astronaut, was tastefully created by London-based pop artist Jacky Tsai. A beautiful blend of oriental and western flair.

genting dream cruise ship

Genting Dream is designed to accommodate the rapidly growing Asian cruise market, offering various Southeast Asian itineraries.  The 19-deck ship has a total length of 335 m and width of 39.7m, equipped with 1,680 cabins, 1,278 outdoor cabins, and 3,360 passenger cabins that can accommodate around 3,400 passengers and 2,000 crew members. Definitely one of the largest cruise ships in the world.

The Genting Dream Cruise ship has spacious staterooms and 70% of the staterooms come with private balcony. They have 5 types of rooms: Interior , Ocean View , Balcony , Balcony Deluxe , and The Palace (exclusive suites) .

For families traveling together, you may request for rooms with connecting doors for added convenience.

I was assigned to a brightly-lit, balcony room at Deck 10.  Our room is decently-sized for 2 persons (over 20 sq. meter) and the interior is masterfully designed with traditional oriental touches.  It has a comfortable, queen-size bed with golden-colored headboard.  Both the mattress and the pillow are fluffy, so I had a sound sleep. There’s a double USB ports by the bedside too, very helpful for charging our phones.

What I like best about it is that it has views to put you in the very best mood each morning.  During my free time late in the afternoon, I enjoyed sitting on the balcony, which is furnished with 2 deck chairs, for a breathtaking view of the sunset and the cerulean sea. It offers the kind of peace and quiet you only find in exclusive island getaways.

genting dream cruise balcony stateroom

There’s a flat panel TV attached to the wall in front of the bed with satellite programs and in-cabin movies.

Beside the bed is a small tangerine sofa perfect for curling up for a good read. It can also be converted by the stateroom attendant to an additional bed if needed.

Each cabin is also equipped with complimentary tea and coffee and kettle, and the drinking mineral water is provided daily.  There’s also mini-refrigerator in case you need to store your food or something.

Storage space inside the cabin was carefully planned too. There’s enough room under the bed to store our luggage and there’s also a  multiple-shelved wardrobe to hang and keep our clothes. It’s also equipped with a small safe to keep our valuables.

The bathroom has enough space to move around. There’s a walk-in shower with soap and shampoo dispenser and other toiletries such as toothbrush and cotton buds are also provided.

Genting Dream boasts of 35 restaurants and bars offering a wide selection of dining experiences.  Most of the menus are regional cuisines, with an emphasis on Asian and Chinese dishes.  They also have international food selection, such as Japanese, Italian, etc.

genting 15

There are 3 inclusive restaurants that you can enjoy for FREE since it’s actually part of your payment for the cruise package.  You can dine there 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). For breakfast, all these restaurants are open from 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM. For lunch, they are open from 11:30 PM – 2:00 PM. For dinner, they are available from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM. Take note of the opening hours of the inclusive hours, queue early since all of them are quite crowded and there’s a long waiting time for the set menu at Dream Dining Lower and Upper Restaurant, otherwise, you have to pay to eat at inclusive restaurants.

Just go to the following restaurants:

  • The Lido (International + Indian Cuisine) – Located at Deck 16 Aft, this restaurant serves Chinese, Indian, Halal, and other Asian dishes in buffet style. The food was okay, my favorite are the Chinese steamed buns (bao).  The outdoor area however is a snack place that is open 24/7.
  • Dream Dining Room Lower (Chinese Cuisine) – Located at Deck 7 Aft,  this restaurant serves Chinese dishes in set menu, semi buffet or Western semi buffet.
  • Dream Dining Room Upper (Chinese Cuisine) – Situated on Deck 8 Aft, this restaurant serves Chinese set menu

The rest of the restaurants are exclusive, meaning, they’re not FREE, thus, if you dine there, you will be charged for your whatever food or drinks that you order.  Whenever I am on a cruise, I make it a point to try some exclusive restaurants because usually, they serve better food. But since our trip was quick and my recently tightened braces made it hard and painful for me to chew the food, we only dined at 3 of the exclusive restaurants in Genting Dream.

genting dream cruise restaurants

  • Blue Lagoon (Hawker Food) – Of the exclusive restaurants (I only tried 2 or 3 though. Lol) I tried at Genting Dream, this one is my favorite. I ordered the laksa and I find it really delicious, the creamy, spicy, coconut flavored soup and the thick noodles left a lingering taste. I also chowed down salted egg fish skin, it is crispy and tasty, not too oily, not too spicy, and you can really taste the salted egg but not too overwhelming.
  • Umi Uma (Japanese cuisine/Teppanyaki , Sushi Bar) – Situated at Deck 8 Aft, this restaurant serves Japanese dishes like sushi, sashimi, udon, Japanese beef, etc. Reservation is required. But what I really like about it is the teppanyaki performance where you’ll be sitting around a table with a chef cooking right in front of you.  Though the food was just okay for me (perhaps because I always eat Japanese food whenever I visit Japan so I’m quite hard to please when it comes to Japanese cuisine. lol), the warm and humorous Filipino chef was entertaining. He sang, juggled, and threw the egg and other ingredients while cooking.

INDOOR FACILITIES IN GENTING DREAM

There’s a plethora of activities inside the Genting Dream cruise ship, so you’ll never really run out of things to do while sailing. Here’s some of the facilities that you can enjoy, most of them are for FREE.

genting dream shows

♥ Shows – I’m an old soul. Whenever I am on a cruise, aside from food trip, I like watching glitzy shows.  Shows on cruise lines are often on first come, first serve basis.  So best to reserve a seat in advance.  We miss the highlight show of Genting Dreams but on our second night we had the chance to watch “Some Like it Hot” show at Zodiac Theater.  It’s a performance showcasing  the spirit of the 50’s and 60’s with a modern, jaw-dropping dance twist featuring award-winning ballroom dancing champions.

genting dream cruise ship shopping

♥ Shops (Deck 16, Forward) –  I like shopping while on cruise because some shops sell authentic branded bags, watches, jewelry, and perfumes at discount prices, not to mention they are tax and duty free. At Genting Dream Cruise, you can scour posh boutiques of the top luxury brands.

♥ Arcade (Deck 16, Mid)–   Video games enthusiasts will be glad to know that there’s an arcade inside Genting Dream where they can play the latest games. You need to swipe your key card to be able to use this facility.

genting dream bar cruise ship

♥   Crystal Life Fitness (FREE/Deck 15) – It’s a gym for cruisers, in case you want to work out.  Make sure you are wearing proper gym outfit and sports shoes to be able to use this amenity.

♥ Crystal Life Spa (Additional/Deck 15 Forward) – If are in dire need of pampering while on a cruise, head to Crystal Life Spa that offers a variety of massage, facial, therapies using advanced beauty technologies, and traditional spa treatments.

♥ Gaming   – Many cruisers like to try their luck in gaming while on cruise. And since Genting’s root is gaming, it is key part of the entertainment while onboard the vessel.  Genting Dream’s gaming operates under the Resorts World at Sea branding.  Here’ you’ll find table games and slot machines across the gaming floor on Deck 7 and 8. VIP Rooms are also available for high rollers.

♥ Bars –   There’s a variety of legendary bars inside Genting Dream, one of them is Johnnie Walker House, where you can experience private whiskey tasting course for a fee. You can also purchase personalized Johnnie Walker Blue Label bottles and order a variety of Johnnie Walker whiskies.

OUTDOOR FACILITIES IN GENTING DREAM

genting dream cruise

Understandably, since the Genting Dream was designed with the Asian Market in mind, the outdoor area has lesser space than the indoor amenities. But most adventures here are FREE, so I guess that makes up for it. Make sure to wear proper outfit and closed shoes.

♥ Water Slide Park (FREE / Deck 20, Aft) – Slide down the soaring slides at Genting Dream.  It looks pretty exhilarating, but I’m too scared to try it! LOL  But adrenaline junkies will surely love this! The pool here is always busy, so wake up early if you want to take a dip without the crowd. Swimwear is required to use the pool and waterslide.

♥ Rock Climbing Wall (FREE/Deck 18) – Scramble up the artificial rock climbing wall at Genting Dream.  Though you don’t get to interact with the natural world, what’s good about artificial rock wall is, you don’t have to worry about searching for hand-and-footholds. Rock climbing has indeed become a fun sport in itself, especially for the adventurous. Wear proper sports shoes  and attire to enjoy this facility.

♥ Ropes Course (FREE/Deck 18) –  This is a fun activity to try, didn’t get to try this as the weather didn’t permit. But it’s a pretty great bonding activity for friends, couples, or families.  You can try completing the rope course and then glide through the air  while attached to the cable lines of the 35-meter zipline. Wear proper sports shoes to enjoy this facility.

♥ Mini-Gold (FREE/ Deck 18, Aft) – Yep, there’s a mini golf course here in case you are in the mood for golfing.

♥ Sportsplex (FREE/Deck 19, Aft) – If you want to play basketball, bubble soccer, or tennis, there is a massive outdoor court in Genting Dream where you can play outdoor sports. Wear proper sports shoes to use this space.

♥ Zouk Beach Club (FREE/Deck 17 Aft) –   If you want to experience what it’s like to have fun at night at a cruise ship, head to Zouk Beach Club, a unique outdoor beach club  where you can enjoy clubbing at the Zouk at Sea. Zouk, is a popular club in Singapore that is acquired by Genting Hong Kong.  You can also watch a blockbuster movie on a giant LED screen.

SHORE EXCURSION (SHOREX)

Our cruise destination is Bintang Island, a resort island off the coast of Singapore that is actually part of Riau Archipelago in Indonesia.  It rose to fame in recent years because it is riddled with white sandy beaches and is it’s a luxury resort hub. While you might be tempted to relax on the beach, do take advantage of the island’s beauty.

genting dream shore excursion

Shore Excursion (SHOREX) are pre-arranged tours at cruise ship destinations and usually they’re quite hefty compared to the typical group tours offered by local travel agents.  Surprisingly, Genting Dream Cruise SHOREX are reasonably-priced, and I recommend you to book it for less hassle.  Shorex for Bintan Island range from SGD 50 – 70 per person.  Make sure you bring your key card when disembarking the ship for the SHOREX.

For our cruise stop – Bintan Island, there are 3 SHOREX options: Tanjung Urban Explorer , Scuba Try out at Trikora Coast , and Bintan Black Coral Leisure Diving . We joined the Tanjung Urban Explorer, which includes attractions such as Telagu Biru – an Instagram-worthy sandy hills surrounded by Danau Biru (Blue Lake) – a surreal lake with moss green water that was a result of mining activity in the area, and the Trily Resort Center Mangrove Forest .

genting dream shore excursion

If you are not keen on joining the Shore Excursion, that is also possible.  Instead of doing a DIY Tour since it’s Bintan Island and you might find it hard to book a transportation from the port to the tourist attraction, you can book a FREE and EASY option priced at SGD 30 per person.  What’s good about this option is, it includes the ferry service and coach transfer to and from Plaza Lagoi Bay in Bintan Island Resorts, then you can explore the island at your own pace.

CHECK-OUT PROCEDURE

A day before your schedule disembarkation, proceed to the reception and settle your bills if there is any. Make sure you pay the mandatory gratuity of SGD 21 (PHP 789). Infants below 2 years old are exempted.

Also, you can leave your big luggage outside your cabin the night before the disembarkation. They will usually announce the time or leave a letter on your bed.

In my case, since I still need to change outfit and shoot early morning the next day, so, I decided to just carry my own luggage.

DISEMBARKATION

The disembarkation process was still organized and smooth despite the long lines. The staff announced the procedure and the assembly and exit points for each deck.

Genting Dream Cruise All-Inclusive Restaurants (Free of Charge) • The Lido & Dream Dining Rooms

Genting dream all-inclusive restaurants (free of charge).

Up to 6 meals a day are included when cruising on board Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream. Here are the dining options you will have for almost 24 hours without any additional charge while cruising, whether on the move on high seas or even when docked at destinations.

The Lido • Halal, Vegetarian, Jain International Buffet

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

The Lido on Deck 16 is Genting Dream’s main buffet restaurant, and certified Halal by OIC (Organisation of Islamic Corporation) and SMIIC (Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standards.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

A sign is displayed in the queue to enter The Lido to not bring any alcoholic beverages into the Halal area.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

As compared with the World Dream with only 1 buffet line by the entrance, the whole port (left) side of The Lido is now a Halal line on the Genting Dream, but divided into local and international cuisines.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

A wide variety of food for everyone is available in The Lido now that the whole port-side buffet line is Halal-certified, so all passengers have more food options without the worry of mixing cutlery.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Drinks are also available for self-service.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Inclusive cold drinks revolve around syrup juices.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Coffee and milk are available from large dispensers, which is especially useful now that the ship operates at full capacity with no more social gathering restrictions.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Cutlery is now available from self-service stations.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

There is still a bar in The Lido, but this is to be consumed on the aft and starboard sides of The Lido.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

The starboard (right) side of The Lido serves up Indian Vegetarian and Jain food, certified by Global Vegetarian Certification Services (GVCS).

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

With a crowd of more than 3000 on board, The Lido does get busy but it can still cope well for finding a table reasonably fast with the space available. Food are also available on multiple lines so the crowd is spread out around The Lido.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

A small sample of the food offered at The Lido. I didn’t take much as this was a late afternoon “lunch” and dinner was going to happen for me soon.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

If heading down for an early shore excursion, The Lido is also open for an early morning start to your day for a quick grab-and-go plated breakfast.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

A wide variety of local and international breakfast options are available on the various buffet lines at The Lido.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

A butter machine is also installed now to plop roundels of butter on to your plate.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

My small selection of a quick breakfast from The Lido as I was heading off for a shore excursion to Phuket .

The Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

During gaps in main meal times (morning tea, afternoon tea, and supper), The Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner on Deck 16 serves up light bites for those still hungry.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Snack food is available during afternoon tea, but some breakfast options are available for morning tea for those who woke up late and local favourites such as porridge are available during supper as well.

Dream Dining Room Lower • Western Semi-Buffet Restaurant

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Dream Dining Room Lower is an inclusive Western restaurant which operates in a semi=buffet style.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Orders are taken at the table for main courses, but everything else is found on buffet lines.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Breads, salads, and soups are now self-service from the Dream Dining Room Lower buffet line.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

I was surprised that my steak doneness was requested by the waiter at Dream Dining Room Lower as I had expected that the food at inclusive restaurants would be done in 1 style.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Dessert was also done buffet-style at the buffet line.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

A mix of cakes and local hot desserts are available.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

If dining during the safety demonstration, the waiters double up to point out the safety features and procedures on board the Genting Dream.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Breakfast is a full buffet at Dream Dining Room Lower with an international menu, similar to The Lido.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

A variety of local and international cuisines are available at Dream Dining Room Lower. Do note that the buffet line at Dream Dining Room Lower is not Halal and includes pork.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

A small selection of western breakfast for me this early morning.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Omelettes and sunny side up eggs can be ordered through the waiters.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

For the last dinner of the cruise, I went back to Dream Dining Room Lower as well, since I prefer Western food.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

I had a beef tenderloin which was very tender, nicely pink, and can be cut easily with a regular knife.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

The vegetarian option of Spinach Lasagna was also good with generous fillings and sauce.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Dessert was also local hot dessert and cakes from the buffet line.

Dream Dining Room Upper • Chinese Set Menu Restaurant

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Dream Dining Room Upper is Genting Dream’s inclusive Chinese restaurant served in set menus.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

I had only tried Dream Dining Room Upper once on this cruise for a sit-down breakfast.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

For a solo cruiser, meals were portioned out nicely for 1 person’s share, but I thought it was still a bit generous for an early start to the day.

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Chinese dim sum and carbs were served for breakfast with noodles, congee, glutinous rice, dumplings, and the popular golden egg yolk bao which every other table seems to be ordering extra servings of.

BONUS: Blue Lagoon • Chinese Set Menu Restaurant (Peak)

genting dream cruise malaysia blog

Blue Lagoon is a specialty restaurant serving up a la carte local fare. However, during peak periods , Blue Lagoon doubles up as an inclusive restaurant serving up a Chinese Set Menu which will be the same as Dream Dining Room Upper. Check your RW Daily for details on when Blue Lagoon will operate as an inclusive restaurant.

With a variety of cuisines and meal times catered by Genting Dream, it’s hard to go hungry when on board the ship. I personally like the western mains served up by Dream Dining Room Lower, but many others prefer the Chinese food at Dream Dining Room Upper. Perhaps it’s for everyone to find out their favourites with the many meal times and menus offered throughout the cruise.

This cruise was kindly sponsored by Resorts World Cruises.

(Cruising Showdown) Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream

Genting Dream Cruise

Dreaming of a luxurious cruise vacation? Look no further! In this blog post, we'll compare two popular cruise ships: the Spectrum of the Seas by Royal Caribbean and the Genting Dream Cruise by Resorts World Cruises. So, sit back, relax, and let's cruise through a captivating comparison to help you choose the perfect cruise experience for your next adventure.

Point of Departure

Spectrum of the seas.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas

Spectrum of the Seas departs from Singapore and Yokohama (one-way trips only). There are round trips and one-way trips. Round trips go from 3 days to 9 days and stop at various ports around the Asia Pacific region whereas one-way trips are 12 days and stop at Singapore & Yokohama.

Genting Dream

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas

Genting Dream departs from Singapore and Port Klang, Malaysia; so you can choose between these 2 ports to depart. There are 5 Days and 3 Days packages available. Depending on the package you pick, the cruise will stop at Port Klang, Penang, Singapore and Phuket (deep sea port).

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas Room

Onboard Spectrum of the Seas, you can choose between 4 main types of rooms which are; Interior Stateroom, Balcony Stateroom, Oceanview Stateroom and Suite Staterooms (there are many types of suites). The rooms in Spectrum of the Seas are slightly bigger than GEnting Dream and have more cabinets and compartments for storage. Unfortunately, the rooms don’t come with toiletries like toothbrushes and toothpaste. However, they have a 3-in-1 shampoo, body wash and conditioner dispenser attached in the shower room and ready to be dispensed. Bottled water is only provided on the first day. In the following days, you’ll have to buy it at the convenience store but be warned, it's quite 💸🥵pricy.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas Royal Suite Class

For an upgrade to ✨luxurious rooms and services, there is the Royal Suite Class. There are 3 tiers of Royal Suite classes, which are the Star Class, Sky Class, and Sea Class. The more you pay, the more perks you’ll get. This includes but is not limited to 🤵Royal Genie (butler), Coastal Kitchen access, laundry services and many more.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Room

Actually, there aren’t many differences between the rooms in Genting Dream and Spectrum of the Seas. There are 3 types of rooms on the cruise and they are; Balcony Stateroom, Oceanview Stateroom and Interior Stateroom. Each room comes with basic toiletries like 🧴shampoo, 👩‍🦰hair conditioner, 🧼body wash, body lotion, 🦷toothbrushes and a 👱‍♂️comb. A few bottled water is also provided daily for FREE. In addition to that, if you think you can afford better rooms, don’t leave yet!

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: The Palace

This is when The Palace comes into play. Defined as “a ship in a ship” this private enclave comes with all-inclusive privileges like all-butler services, all-suite accommodations and many more. There is only 1 word to describe the rooms, ✨luxurious. You can choose between the Palace Deluxe Suite, Palace Penthouse and Palace Villa.

Photography Service

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas Bumper Car

This cruise ship by Royal Caribbean has a 📸photography service where photographers will be walking around the cruise and take your photos for free. Then, when you are free, you can head to the Photo Gallery on the 5th floor to get your photos printed. However, don’t say we didn’t warn you that the price is a bit…hefty💸.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream

No photography service.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas Dining

There are 6 restaurants on Spectrum of the Seas where you can eat for free. You can also eat as many times as you want at any of the complimentary (free) restaurants. Compared to Genting Dream, Spectrum of the Seas has more restaurants (including speciality restaurants). Depending on which suite class you are in, you’ll have access either to Gold Dining, Silver Dining or both.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas Pizza

Vegetarian options are available. Unfortunately, the food onboard is not halal. However, you can request halal meals by filling in the Special Needs form 90 days before sailing.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Dining

There are 3 free of charge restaurants on Genting Dream for all passengers. However, you can only dine at 1 restaurant at a time. The 3 restaurants include a buffet spread of international and local cuisines, Western course meals, and a Chinese set meal restaurant. On top of that, if you are staying in The Palace, you’ll get free complimentary meals from these restaurants and the speciality restaurants!

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Halal Dining

The buffet spread is the only halal option on the 🚢 cruise, and its kitchen is the world’s first OIC/SMIIC standard 🧕 halal certified. The halal food and cutleries are in a different section from the non-halal ones. The same buffet restaurant also has a 🥕 vegetarian section for herbivores. The Palace restaurant is not halal, but you can request a halal menu with food provided by The Lido (the only restaurant with a halal kitchen on the cruise).

Indoor Activities

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Sea Sushi Makings

In the SeaPlex Indoor Sports Complex, you can enjoy all sorts of exciting activities like 🏓table tennis, ⚽football, 🛼roller blading, 🏐volleyball and many people’s favourite - Bumper Cars! There is also Sasu’s Mystical Quest, an arcade game that shouldn't be missed, and all of these are free!

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Sea Sushi Kids

💃Dance classes and 👩‍🎨art & craft workshops are also available for those with an artistic flair. For babies and toddlers, there is the Royal Babies & Tots program, where parents can drop them off to be taken care of by trained staff. As for the older kids aged 3 -11, there is an Adventure Ocean program where kids within that age group can play with each other.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Dance Class

There are 🧘‍♀️fitness and 💃dance classes that you can join, and they all come with charges. However, on some lucky days (check your itinerary), you can join them for free! Other facilities like 🎳bowling alleys, 🎮arcades and 🎱pool tables can be used with some extra fees.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Dance Little Dreamers Club

For the kids, there is the Little Dreamers Club, it is a childcare centre with a playground where parents can leave their children for a few hours to go on a date. The first 2 hours are free, but the subsequent hours require additional charges.

Outdoor Day Activities

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Sea FlowRider Surf Simulator

The outdoor activities on Spectrum of the Seas are slightly different from Genting Dream and catered more to young people. Some exciting ones include FlowRider Surf Simulator, RipCord by iFLY Skydiving Simulator and SkyPad (a bungee trampoline with VR experience).

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Rope Courses

Some of the free activities that you can enjoy on Genting Dream are rope course & zipline, 🧗‍♂️rock climbing wall, ⛳mini golf, 🏓table tennis and 🏀basketball. All these are at the Sportsplex. Some of these activities require booking, and some do not. There is also a large chess set and a 🏃‍♀️jogging track that goes around Deck 17.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Sea Pool

Spectrum of the Seas has 3 pool areas. Two of them are outdoors, and one is indoors. The outdoor pools consist of an adult pool surrounded by shallow water for kids (just like the one on Genting Dream). However, this pool is much smaller than the one on Genting Dream and can get crowded in no time. There is no adult water slide, but there is a fun water playground with water slides (Splashaway Bay) for 👦kids and 👶toddlers.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Solarium

Still, no worries because adults have their special area at the Solarium. This indoor pool with a jacuzzi and rest area is for adults only, no kid is allowed. You can only go in if you are of age 18 years and older. Abundant 🌞sun rays penetrate through the glass panels giving the whole place a warm ambience with a beautiful spa vibe. It’s a perfect place to just sit, relax and chit-chat. It’s much more quiet here, and you can grab a 🍸drink from the bar (with some charges, of course).

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Pool

The pools on Genting Dream are all outdoors, which means you can bathe in the 🌞sunlight and in the pools! There is an adult pool surrounded by a shallow area for kids to play. For the elderly who prefer a more relaxing water-based activity, they can relax in one of the 4 jacuzzis scattered on each corner of the pool area. As for younger people who prefer a little bit of adventure throughout their stay on the cruise, there are 5 water slides with different levels of extremity that you can try out.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: The Palace Pool

On the other hand, if you want a more private swimming experience with a sprinkle of luxury, there is The Palace. It has a huge outdoor pool and jacuzzis, which you can enjoy quietly without too many people.

Outdoor Night Activities

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas Cinema

Outdoor screening is available on Spectrum of the Seas; however, the seats are located far from the screen and are not directly facing the screen.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Foam Party

The night atmosphere at Zouk Beach Club on deck 17 is very 🥳🎉 lively! There is a foam party for all ages where everyone can dance and enjoy catchy music while embroiled in white foam and colourful lights. This foam party is also available on the day, so make sure to check the itinerary given to you!

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Cinema

On the other hand, if you want to spend the night more relaxingly, there is the outdoor cinema with comfortable cushioned seats on deck 17. Blockbuster movies and live sports mtaches will be shown on the huge outdoor screen. You can check your schedule to find out what movie will be shown every night.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Spectrum of the Seas Casino Royal

Casino Royale only acquired the space of one deck, making it smaller than Resorts World Genting at Sea. However, it is a complete casino with the usual 🎲table games and 🎰slot machines. Gambling lessons are even provided if you aim to be 😎Chow Yuen Fatt in the God of Gamblers.

Spectrum of the Seas VS Genting Dream: Genting Dream Resorts World Genting at Sea

The casino, Resorts World Genting at Sea spans 3 decks! There are slot machines, electronic table games, premium rooms and many more. Unlike the casinos at Genting Highlands, the Resorts World Genting at Sea is free entry. Plus, there are 🀄Mahjong tables scattered throughout the cruise ship for anyone who feels like having a game of Mahjong without going to the casino.

Both Spectrum of the Seas and Genting Dreamhave the same amount of decks. However, Spectrum of the Seas is slightly bigger and can hold about a thousand more passengers than Genting Dream. As for the price, it depends on the promotions running, but Genting Dream tends to be a bit cheaper than Spectrum of the Seas. Whichever ship you choose, both Genting Dream and Spectrum of the Seas offer exceptional journeys. No matter which ship you pick, happy cruising🥳🚢!
