Tourist Visa in Canada for Filipinos

The website canada.ca also refers to the tourist visa as “temporary resident visa.” When you have this visa in your passport, it means that you have fulfilled all the requirements to visit the country. In some cases, a visa is not required for some visitors, However, Philippine passport holders are required to obtain this document.

Requirements for the Tourist Visa

The requirements for obtaining a tourist visa include the following:

• Travel history: This includes previous passports, as well as entry and exit stamps, study or work permits, amd expired or valid visas
• Itinerary: You need to provide a detailed itinerary that includes flight details and hotel reservations. If you are attending a conference or similar event in Canada, it is advisable to include a copy of your registration.
• Proof of funds: You must demonstrate that you have enough financial resources to cover your trip. Submit a bank statement for the past 6 months, ensuring that your name and address are clearly visible to help identify that you own the account
• Valid passport: Your passport must be valid and should also include the page containing your date of birth, country of origin, and other visas you may have.
• Letter of invitation: If you have a sponsor residing in Canada, you may need to submit a letter of invitation (if applicable)
• Forms for minor children or a representative (if applicable)

Steps to Apply for a Tourist Visa

To successfully apply for a tourist visa, follow these steps”

Step 1. Prepare the required documents. For a complete list of necessary documents, you can refer to the official Canada.ca website .

Step 2. Apply online. Begin by creating an account on the IRCC portal. You can access the portal through the same website. During the account creation process, you must specify the purpose of your visit to Canada. 

Provide your email address and wait for the code to proceed with the sign-up process. You will then be prompted to submit your documents.

After submitting the documents, you will be required to pay the visa fees using either a credit card or prepaid card. 

Step 3. Schedule the capture of your photograph and biometrics, You will receive a notification indicating when and where to provide these details. If you have already submitted your biometrics before, you might not need to do this step. 

After paying the biometrics fee, you will receive a notification specifying the appointment time and date.It’s important to make an appointment at the biometrics center as soon as possible. When you visit the center, make sure to bring the biometric instruction letter and your passport

Step 4. Wait for your visa application to be processed. If your application is approved, you will need to send your passport for visa stamping. As a tourist, you can stay in Canada for a period of up to six months.

Tips for a Smooth Application Process

During your application process, consider the following tips:

At your biometric appointment, ensure that your hands are henna-free because it may affect the quality of your fingerprints. If there are cuts or wounds on your hand, allow them to heal fully before undergoing the biometric procedure. It would also help to wear bright colors for your photograph. 

It’s also important to produce high quality fingerprints. In some cases, if the fingerprints are not clear, you could be asked to come again for another round of biometrics. 

There are corresponding fees when you apply for a tourist visa. It is important to note that these fees are subject to change, so it is advisable to confirm the current rate at the time of your application

• Two passport photos for the applicant and each family member included on the application, with the full name and date of birth written on the back;
• Photocopy of marriage certificate, if applicable; and,
• Any further documents required by specific visa offices.

What Happens After My Tourist/Visitor Visa is Approved?

When your business visitor visa application is approved, the foreign national will receive:

• A Letter of Introduction (LOI) confirming the approval from the CIC.
• As the eTA is linked to the applicant's passport, the applicant must travel with the passport used in the visitor visa permit application.
• The TRV will be in the passport. The holder must enter Canada before the expiry date on the TRV.
• The TRV will also indicate if the holder can enter Canada only once (a single-entry visa) or multiple times (a multiple-entry visa). All applicants are automatically considered for multiple-entry TRVs.

Proof Financial/How Much Do I Need to Show for Canadian Visitor Visa

Applicants for a Canadian business visa are required to prove they have enough money to cover the duration of their stay and return. They also need to have the financial resources to support themselves, and any accompanying family members.

Financial resources may be proven with the following information:

• Canadian bank account statements in the applicant's name, if money has been transferred to Canada
• Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating financial institution
• Proof of a application has loan from a financial institution
• The applicant's bank statements from the past four months
• A bank draft in convertible currency
• Proof of payment of place of stay and any accommodation fees
• A letter from the person providing you with money; and/or
• Proof of a support from business partner in Canada.

Family or friends of the applicant may also submit letters confirming that they will support the applicant during his or her studies.

Please note that we do not perform marriage at the Embassy and we do not register marriage.

If you plan to get married in Qatar, local authorities will most likely require you to provide a document that certifies your capacity to marry. It is often referred to a Certificate of non-impediment to marriage. Canada does not issue these certificates. Instead, we can issue a statement in lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad.

To obtain the statement in lieu of certificate of non-impediment to marriage abroad, please book your appointment online and present yourself at the Embassy with the following documents:

• Valid Canadian passport
• Proof of Canadian citizenship
• Statutory declaration of present marital status (see below for further details)
• Certified true copy of a divorce certificate/final judgment of divorce or of the former spouse’s death certificate, if previously married.

The statutory declaration of present marital status can be done in front of a local notary/lawyer of your choice or during your appointment at the Embassy.

If you choose to do the statutory declaration of your present marital status at the Embassy, you will need to prepare the statutory declaration in advance and bring it with you. Do not sign it, it will have to be signed in front of the consular officer at the Embassy during your appointment. The statutory declaration must contain the following information:

• Your full name as on your Canadian passport
• Your citizenship
• Your present marital status
• Your permanent address
• Full name and citizenship of your future spouse

If you obtained a certificate of non-impediment from Canada, make sure it has been authenticated by the Authentication Services Section at Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa and either by the Embassy of Qatar in Ottawa or the Embassy of Canada to Qatar.

The Embassy of Canada in Doha provides notarial services primarily for the benefit of Canadian citizens, when no local service providers exist. Services may be provided to non-Canadians only if the documents are intended to be used in Canada and on a case-by-case merit.

Notarial services are offered by appointment only. You can book your appointment online .

Consular officers are not notaries, nor are they commissioners of oaths, lawyers, etc. and do not provide the following services:

• Certify the genuineness, legality or credibility of documents
• Draft or modify legal/notarial documents
• Act as an agent for another entity
• Verify the identity of someone
• Sign any document if the content can be misled or used for fraudulent purposes.

The Consular officer’s ability to provide services does not create an obligation to perform notarial functions on any document; they may elect not to do so. Child passport applications

Both parents must sign the application. If one parent is residing outside of Qatar, they must go to the nearest Canadian passport office or embassy and fill out a "Consent for a Minor Child" form PPT-028. The passport office will send a copy of the completed form along with 2 pieces of ID to the Embassy in Doha and allow us to proceed with the application.

Your guarantor must sign and date the application and the back of one of the photos, after you have fully completed section 5. Applicants should sign in front of their guarantor, and not in front of an Embassy official.

In the case of separation or divorce, the parent who has custody of the child has the sole right to apply for a passport for a child by presenting a separation agreement and court orders. The Passport Program may contact the other legal guardian or parent.

In order to submit a passport application for a newborn, a citizenship application must be submitted at the same time. You must also submit a statement explaining the reason why the newborn requires a passport before they receive their proof of citizenship. Valid reasons include upcoming travel for the child (an airline ticket should be included with the statement if this is the case) or residency requirements in Qatar.
