Diesel show was great but the setup of the venue was poor!!

The restricted “dining” area took up all of the room and everyone else was restricted to a small area in front of the bar to view from the distance. There wasn’t even somewhere to dance !

Due to the setup of the venue the concert lacked any atmosphere, this combined with the rough crowd was enough to have us leave early to avoid trouble after.

Disappointing....

Diesel Announces 2024 National ‘Forever’ Tour

There are few Australian artists with the staying power of Diesel , aka Mark Lizotte. The artist formerly known as Johnny Diesel has spent the last three decades drawing on both the rock and blues traditions to create something with significant cultural heft – the kind of songs that feel like Australia.

Now, ahead of the release of his new album,  Bootleg Melancholy , Diesel has announced details of a 2024 national tour. Find the complete tour itinerary below.

Diesel – ‘Tip Of My Tongue’

Bootleg Melancholy has been described as an “unabashedly exuberant” work, notable for its diverse style and the cohesive story it aims to tell across its 14 tracks. It’s also a typically personal work for Diesel, featuring songs about “family, mortality, childhood and dreams.”

That said, those who expect rousing pop choruses from Diesel need not fear – the album contains plenty of big hooks. Oh, and gearheads rejoice: the album features a great deal of vintage tech, with songs written and performed on classic guitars.

The accompanying tour is set to be as big and exuberant as one would expect, given the material. For instance, Sydney Diesel fans will be delighted to know that the musician is gracing the halls of the Opera House – a perfect fit for the artist’s “heart in your mouth” rock style.

The Forever Tour

Australian icon, Diesel, is gearing up for the release of his sixteenth studio album, “Bootleg Melancholy,” set to hit the shelves soon. To celebrate, he’s embarking on a 2024 Australian tour called the “Forever Tour,” which kicks off in January. The tour includes performances in various cities, including Avoca Beach, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Margaret River, Sydney, and Brisbane, with a special appearance at the Sydney Opera House.

“Bootleg Melancholy” is a 14-track LP showcasing Diesel’s diverse musical talents. It's a mix of pop with heartfelt lyrics, exploring themes like family, mortality, childhood, and dreams. Diesel recorded, mixed, and mastered the album during the pandemic, offering a snapshot of his personal journey and experiences during those challenging times. Diesel's extensive career and numerous accolades underscore his enduring influence in the Australian music scene. This album and tour mark the next chapter in his creative journey.

Our foyers will be open 90 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and two hours pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Refreshments will be available for purchase from our theatre bars. All Sydney Opera House foyers are pram accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators). Pram parking will be available outside the theatres in the Western Foyer.

The Sydney Opera House Car Park, operated by Wilson Parking, is open and available to use. Wilson Parking offer discounted parking if you book ahead. Please see  their website  for details.

Please check the  Transport NSW website  for the latest advice and information on travel. You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a six min walk to the Opera House. 

The health and wellbeing of everyone attending the Opera House is our top priority. We’re committed to making your experience safe, comfortable and enjoyable, with a number of measures in place including regular cleaning of high-touch areas, air conditioning systems that maximise ventilation, and hand sanitiser stations positioned in all paths of travel. We remind our audiences and visitors to please stay home if you feel unwell. The Sydney Opera House no longer requires patrons to show that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Ticket purchases and collection at our Box Office is discouraged and eTicket or postal delivery methods should be used, wherever possible. However, if you are collecting your tickets from the Box Office, we recommend doing this at least 60 minutes before the event starts. If you have already received your tickets, the venue doors will be open 45 minutes pre-show for Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and 30 minutes pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Please take your seats as soon as you arrive. 

If you are late, we will seat you as soon as we can and, where possible, in your allocated seat. However, to reduce movement in the venue as well as minimise disruption to the performance and other patrons, ticketholders may be seated in an allocated latecomer’s seat. Please be aware that some events have lock-out periods. In these cases, latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance. On occasions, this may not be until the interval, or at all where there is no interval.

In accordance with our venue security procedures, Opera House security will be scanning and checking bags under the Monumental Stairs, prior to entering the building. Bags will be scanned by an x-ray machine, and staff will wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling your belongings, such as gloves. Cloaking facilities will be open 60 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and 60 minutes pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. However it is strongly encouraged that you travel lightly to minimise contact and queuing. Any bags larger than an A4 piece of paper will need to be checked into the Cloak Room.

The authorised agency for this event is the Sydney Opera House.

Only tickets purchased by authorised agencies should be considered reliable. If you purchase tickets from a non-authorised agency such as Ticketmaster Resale, Viagogo, Ticketbis, eBay, Gumtree, Tickets Australia or any other unauthorised seller, you risk that these tickets are fake, void or have previously been cancelled. RESALE RESTRICTION APPLIES. For more details, please refer to our  General Terms and Conditions for Tickets and Attendance at Events.

Diesel Announces 'Greatest Hits' Tour

One of our most beloved rock and roll singers, Diesel  (real name Mark Lizotte), is going on a Greatest Hits tour in March and April 2023.

Following his run of exclusive New South Wales shows, it's Victoria's turn - the Cry In Shame singer is stopping at cherry-picked theatres across the state, from Frankston to Kyneton. 

Members of the Diesel mailing list will receive early access to tickets from 9 am Tuesday, 6 December, with details sent out via newsletter on Monday, 5 December, at 7 pm. The general public on-sale begins on Thursday, 8 December, at 9 am. Sign up for the mailing list here .

Diesel is celebrating 30+ years in music. In 2021, he released his 15th album, Alone With Blues , which debuted in the top 20 of the ARIA Albums Chart and #1 Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Chart. This tour showcases Alone With Blues and all his greatest hits in an intimate two-set solo concert with a brief intermission. 

"This show is arguably the most encompassing concert performance and song collection I've curated to date," Diesel said. "It makes for an uplifting experience for both the audience and myself. I feel they are getting ALL of me with this one. I simply had to bring it to more towns. Like unfinished business but way more fun. The sing-a-longs are epic!"

We caught up with Diesel earlier this year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Hepfidelity . "When I listen to Hep now, to me it sounds far from perfect, but I also hear the sound of an artist reaching beyond, and much to my delight, I still hear the excitement in the live nature of the performances," he shared.

"It's easy for me to imagine my entry into being a solo artist a misadventure at best, thankfully this was not to be the case. The road to completion was definitely not the fast lane on the autobahn but I will always hear the triumphant moments that are littered on the highways and back alleys of this record. 

There's a strange feeling you get when you realise that listening to an album is essentially hearing a bunch of misfits become a family. I still get that feeling when I put Hepfidelity on today."

Born in Fall River Massachusetts, the youngest of seven from a sax playing electronics technician father and a mother in nursing, Mark Lizotte aka DIESEL grew up in Australia and in the U.S. He formed the band ‘Johnny Diesel & The Injectors’ in 1986 from remnants of a previous band before embarking on a solo career in 1991.

In 2017 DIESEL  celebrated 30 years “off the bus” landing in Sydney in 1987 after a 3-day bus journey across Australia, launching into 9 shows per week - the rest is history. With over thirty-five singles, sixteen albums, 6 ARIA awards,1 million record sales, 100 million streams, gazillions of video views plus a staggering 4,000 live performances under his belt, DIESEL is the real deal- a career artist, master of his craft and journeyman of music.
