Kat & Alex

Kat & Alex

Artist Information

For as much as Kat & Alex embody classic country stylings and values, the Nashville-based duo also rewrite the rules altogether with a Latin twist. The husband-and-wife pair shake up country with full-bodied soulful delivery, inventive live instrumentation, and bilingual lyrics, introducing themselves as outliers with just the right amount of outlaw glee. Amassing nearly 20 million streams independently and receiving acclaim from Billboard , CMT , and more, they introduce a scorching signature style in 2021 with new music for Sony Music Nashville.

“We both grew up simultaneously listening to country and Spanish songs, so this is completely natural,” says Alex. “This is who we’ve been for our entire lives. It’s great to be able to share that. There’s no better feeling than when somebody sends us a message like, ‘When I heard you, my two worlds collided’ .”

“We’re just being us,” smiles Kat.

In that sense, they’re fulfilling a destiny that predates their eventual union. Among many similarities, Kat and Alex both spoke Spanish exclusively until first grade. Kat is a Miami native and first-generation American from a Cuban family. Her grandfather owned a farm and tended to cows and horses. “He was a Cuban cowboy , ” she recalls. Of Puerto Rican descent and originally hailing from Northwestern Georgia, Alex had moved to Miami by middle school. Their familial experiences and musical tastes mirrored one another.

“I always listened to Maná, Marc Anthony and Alejandro Fernandez on the Latin side as well as Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw,” recalls Alex.

“I loved Celia Cruz, and I was a big fan of Marc Anthony,” agrees Kat. “We looked up to so many amazing people, and now we’re bringing these roots to our music.”

Before their paths finally crossed, Alex worked as a police officer for two years and logged time as a social media influencer for Harley Davidson Corporate in Milwaukee, WI, before he created art around Miami as “Space Cowboy . ” Meanwhile, Kat honed her voice and took advantage of any opportunity to perform. She witnessed Alex sing one day, and the two forged an eternal bond after one date. They appeared on American Idol before returning home to focus on writing and recording original music.

“It was a dream,” admits Alex. “One day, I was thinking to myself, ‘How cool would it be if Kat and I went to Nashville and started singing Country songs with Spanish lyrics?’ ”

In 2020, they signed to The AMG for management and inked a publishing deal with Warner Chappell between numerous sessions with producer Brad Hill [Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne]. Kat & Alex made their official debut with the single “How Many Times” and its accompanying Spanish Version. Right out of the gate, it gathered 7.9 million Spotify streams as they claimed coveted real estate on playlists such as “Hot Country” and “New Boots” in addition to rubbing elbows with Bad Bunny and Camilo on Latin playlists. At the top of 2021, they married and signed to Sony Music Nashville. Now, Kat & Alex kick off their next chapter with the single “Heartbreak Tour.” Airy guitar gives way to a traffic-stopping vocal performance from Kat. Her robust timbre echoes as Alex answers with a gentle twang on the second verse. Their voices entwine on the hook above a skyscraping guitar solo and crashing percussion.

“It came out of a heated moment,” admits Alex. “We’d gotten into an argument, cooled off, went downstairs, and wrote the song. We were overwhelmed by worrying if music would work out. The song represented what we believed life would be like if we hadn’t pushed through this difficult time and pursued music as a unit. It’s authentic, because we know we couldn’t have done this alone. If Kat made it and I didn’t it, she’d be touring around with a broken heart—and vice versa. We’re glad we stuck together.”

As they continued writing music, Kat & Alex engaged fans on social media through a series of Spanish covers of English songs by the likes of Luke Combs, Dan + Shay, and Jason Isbell. Generating millions of views, they received identifiable affirmation from their audience.

“We got a comment from someone who said, ‘My grandparents will finally understand what this song is saying’ ,” Alex goes on. “That resonated with us big time. We have grandparents who don’t speak English. The fact we might be able to bridge country music and Latin culture is really incredible.”

As much as Kat & Alex were meant for each other, they were also meant to leave a lasting mark on music.

“If we can touch one person with our music and provide an escape, we’ve accomplished our goal as a band,” concludes Alex. “However, it all starts with our relationship.”

“Our relationship is everything to this music,” Kat leaves off. “There’s so much love that goes into every single song. This wouldn’t work if we didn’t love each other as much as we do and put God first in all we do.”

Get To Know: Kat & Alex [Exclusive Interview]

"Get To Know" all about this promising new country duo!

Get To Know: Kat & Alex [Exclusive Interview]

There is a certain magic about talented singers coming together as a duo. Better yet, that magic is amplified when both singers are head over heels for each other. That is certainly the case with promising country newcomers, Kat & Alex.

The duo’s Kat Luna and Alex Georgia rose to national fame during their 2020 American Idol audition. All three judges were completely smitten by their chemistry and vocal prowess, advancing them to Hollywood. Since coming off the television singing competition, the newly-wed singers signed a recording contract with Sony Music Nashville, a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, and management deal with The Artist Management Group (AMG), which formed by reputable industry professionals Rob Beckham and Bill Simmons, and is home to superstars Brad Paisley and Chris Young.

In October last year, Kat & Alex unveiled their official debut single and first ever release, “How Many Times.” A stellar mid-tempo offering, the poignant tune captures the essence of a breakup and the gripping emotions that follow after. Though both singers are happily married to each other now, they say it is something they “can relate to in [their] own separate pasts.” Since its release, the song has been spotlighted on SiriusXM The Highway’s new music discovery show, On The Horizon.

Last month, the rising country duo released two brand new tracks — the larger-than-life ballad “Heartbreak Tour” and the summery, roll-your-windows-down bop, “You and the Radio.”

Sounds Like Nashville got to chat with the singers earlier this month all about their individual journeys to music, American Idol audition, new music and of course, how they met. Hint: Kat saw Alex leading worship in a church, and thence began, as Katy Perry cheekily dubbed it, their “digital love affair.”

Introducing the next rising stars you have to “Get To Know” : Kat & Alex

How did each of you get into music?

Kat : At a very young age, I was always singing and tapping on chairs. I always loved music. When I was in middle school, I auditioned for this high school, which was a Magnet School of the Arts. I had my audition, sang for them and they were like, “OK, perfect! We want you in our vocal program.” So after that day, I knew I wanted to do music for the rest of my life as a career. Later, I jumped on a show called La Vos ( The Voice in Spanish), where I [found out] I really loved performing on stage. I met Alex shortly after, and after I started singing with him, I knew I didn’t want to and couldn’t do it with anybody else.

Alex : Music has been a part of my life ever since I was little. My dad was a drum major in high school and played the cello and flute. Any instrument he picked up, he pretty much learned. He had an acoustic nylon string guitar lying around that his brother had given him. So, I saw it and said, “I want to learn that instrument!” I was maybe 11 or 12. And he was like, “Yeah, here you go! You can learn the guitar, here’s some books, and we’ll get you lessons if you’re interested in it.” So that was really the beginning of me really taking music seriously.

Alex, you were in law enforcement before doing music?

Alex : Yeah, I got hired with the West Melbourne Police Department in Brevard County as a police officer in 2016 for just around two years. I left because of a head and neck injury. I was unable to work and do a lot of things because I had post-concussive syndrome. So after my recovery and getting back to work for a little bit, I left the force and then got hired by Harley Davidson to travel the country on a free motorcycle. I went by the name “Space Cowboy.” It was eight of us travelling around the country in these motorcycles Harley Davidson had given us. We still own the motorcycles till this day. We met so many different people around the country, went to different events, and that really inspired me to start pursuing what I really want to do—which is creative stuff, whether it’s painting or music. So I went from this social media influencer to moving back to Miami after this trip and started to paint.

How did y’all meet each other and end up dating?

Alex : I was painting at a place called Wynwood, Miam’s Art District. So, I started attending a church in that area, got on the worship team, played for a Sunday, and it just so happened that that Sunday was the day Kat was able to go back for service since she had not been to [one] in a while. That very day, she picked that very service that I was playing at. She normally goes to evening services, but she went that morning, and that’s where she saw me on stage! So, [it went] from Kat seeing me, to her friend having her add me on Instagram, to I adding her back. We had a “digital love affair”- that’s what Katy Perry called it. (chuckles)

How did both of you end up auditioning for American Idol ?

Alex : We met up to do a cover of [Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s] “Shallow” because we wanted to do something on YouTube. We honestly were super cool about it and were like, “OK, you sing? Let’s meet up.” So we met up to do this cover in a park in Miami and fell in love just doing this cover. A few weeks later, Kat gets a call from someone at American Idol [who wanted her to be on the show].

Kat : But because I had a prior commitment, I couldn’t go on the show. So I told [them], “Hey, I have my friend who’s so talented, his name is Space Cowboy. You guys should totally check him out.”

Alex : So, they called me and were like, “Hello, is this Space Cowboy? What’s up with the name?” (laughs) Anyway, I ended up getting on the show and she couldn’t do it because she had a prior commitment.

Kat : But at the end, I said, “Well, you know what? Things are kinda slipping through. What do I do? If I don’t audition, I’m going to regret not doing it. And getting to do it with Alex would be great.” So, I called the lady [on American Idol ] back and told her, “the thing that I had had fallen through, do you have anymore dates to audition?” And she said, “Well, we have one more slot left,” and it was right after the phone call. So when I sang for them then, they saw that Alex was playing guitar for me, and asked if we sing any songs together. I said, “Yeah, we sing ‘Shallow’ all the time and it’s our favorite song.” After we sang that together and she went, “OK, we’re flying you out to the judges. Pick the place you wanna audition,” and we picked Sunriver, Oregon. So that’s how we ended up on the show!

We heard Luke Bryan had a part to play in the name, “Kat & Alex”?

Alex : Oh yeah, he did! With all the singing and writing music together, we never thought of ourselves as a duo. We were just in love, doing what we love, and we got this opportunity to get on this TV show and do it there as well. When we finished singing “Shallow” in front of the judges, Luke went, “If y’all were a real life duo, what would you call yourselves?” We had no name prepared, [Kat] looked down and was like, “Quick, quick, quick!” So she said, “Kat?” And I said, “Alex… Kat & Alex!” And Luke was, “I like that, that’s nice!”

How would you describe the sound of Kat & Alex?

Kat : I feel like it’s a mix of latin, soul and country. A latin fiesta!

Alex: Yeah, it’s an explosion! Imagine a cowboy and a cowgirl riding horses together on a rainbow and there’s this sound of country music flowing under it, and Adele is screaming and singing in the background! (laughs)

“How Many Times” is the introductory single to Kat & Alex. What made y’all decide to launch as a duo with that?

Alex : When we came to Nashville back in June 2020, Warner Chappell Music had teamed up with our management company, The AMG, and Ben Vaughn (President/CEO of Warner Chappell) and Will Overton (Director, A&R of Warner Chappell) had sent over songs for us to listen. There was like 16 songs, maybe even more. So, we went through the list, found “How Many Times,” and instantly fell in love with it. It was written by Robyn Collins and Jordan Reynolds. We love this song because there are references of Florida and driving in a truck—which I had down in Florida and would pick Kat up in all the time. So, there’s just a lot of relatable things. Even though it talks about heartbreak, which is something we can relate to in our own separate pasts, there are some positive things in there that we can relate to as well.

Talk about filming the spectacular cinematic music video for “How Many Times.”

Alex : First off, we want to say thank you to Doltyn Snedden and Troy Jackson. They were a huge, huge part of this video. Doltyn was the director and Troy assisted him the entire time. It was a two-week long trip. [With] “How Many Times,” we wanted to share this storyline of where each of us came from. Kat was born and raised in Miami, and I was born in Miami but raised in Northwestern Georgia, and travelled the country doing the Harley Davidson [gig]. So, we wanted the audience to really see this split world coming together. Doltyn, Kat and I sat down and came up with this storyline that involved Miami and somewhere out west in the middle of the desert. We flew to Miami, shot some stuff there, flew over to Vegas, and found some sand dunes there called the Kelso Dunes. We woke up early, left the hotel at 3AM in the morning, and drove like two hours out to the Dunes from the Vegas strip all the way to Kelso. It was pitch dark out there, no lights except the sun that was starting to creep up. We walked halfway, filmed some stuff, and walked the rest of the way up.

Kat : And I had heels on, which was horrible! (laughs)

Alex : Yeah, it was brutal. I almost died from a heat stroke, but we’re good now! It was all worth it, for sure!

What inspired writing “Heartbreak Tour” together?

Alex : We wrote that song in a really tough time in our relationship and career. We had just finished American Idol and COVID hit. We wanted to move to Nashville after American Idol , but with COVID, we couldn’t move immediately. We had to wait until this whole pandemic kinda just starts to settle and things start to open before we can consider moving because to move, you gotta get a job, probably at a restaurant or something like that, and maybe play some gigs. But everything was shut down. So we thought, “OK, now we just have to ride this wave at home, write music and post stuff online.” But that wasn’t making us money. We weren’t making a living. We had these all dreams and [wondered], “Can we really live these dreams writing music? I know it’s a passion that we have, but is it attainable?” It was this push and pull of “should we stay together and do this music thing or should I go back to law enforcement and [Kat] go back to work or school, and we’ll just give up music?” So we wrote “Heartbreak Tour” because it really represents what we believe life would be like had we not chosen music again.

The music video for “Heartbreak Tour” is equally emotional as well. What was the concept behind that?

Kat : The music video depicts what it would’ve been like if Alex and I were a duo at one point in our lives, split up, and I became successful while he just does side gigs. The music video is what life would’ve been like if we hadn’t done it together.

Alex : It also mirrors “How Many Times,” if you think about it. I’ve got this rugged lifestyle, I’m in a rehearsal room, it’s kinda dark and grim and I’m probably roughing it out. And Kat’s on the more glamorous side. So it shows our own individual personalities before we both are together on stage for this moment where some may perceive, “Is it all a dream that they finally came together? This isn’t the reality but is this what they wanted? Or, in real life, did they finally come together and find what they wanted together?” It’s really just left up to the audience to decide.

How much of a role has faith played in both of your journeys?

Kat : I feel like in my life, faith has gotten me through every single thing that I’ve gone through. Every challenge and every bad thing. If it wasn’t for my faith in God, I wouldn’t be who I am today, and as happy as I am today.

Alex : Faith plays a large role [in my life]. When I was in law enforcement and got that injury and concussion, I hit rock bottom. I was depressed and wanted to commit suicide. I honestly wanted to end everything. God really got me through that season because I believe God had a bigger purpose for my life—bigger than what I could imagine. And little did I know, it was to meet Kat and start playing music that would impact so many people. And that’s why, even now, God plays such a big role in our marriage and our career. This is all faith-based. This is a purpose that God gave to us. It’s a responsibility, really, and we don’t take that lightly. So, we put all our faith and trust in Him and know that He’s got big plans for us.

What else do you want fans to know about Kat & Alex?

Alex : As a country duo, like what Luke Combs says, “What You See Is What You Get!” We are as real as it is and we really try to be as transparent as possible with our fans.

Kat : We want people to feel like we’re a part of their family and we want them to feel like they’re a part of ours.

Alex : Yes! Because in the Latin culture, for example, if you’re going to a Latino’s house, they’re going to treat you like family. “You want to eat? You want to drink? You want a pillow to lay your head on? I got you.” So we want everyone to feel like that.

Kat & Alex Release “Gira De Desamor (Heartbreak Tour)”

June 25, 2021 Press Release In the News 0

kat & alex tour

WATCH THE LYRIC VIDEO NOW  HERE

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – Rising Country-Latin duo,  Kat & Alex  have released “Gira de Desamor,” the Spanish version of their latest track, “Heartbreak Tour,” today. “Gira de Desamor” was written by Kat & Alex and produced by Brad Hill (Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne) and is the duo’s first release  entirely  in Spanish, following their debut single “   How Many Times ,” that featured a Spanish chorus.

Listen to “Gira de Desamor” now  HERE  and watch the lyric video  HERE .

Growing up, Kat and Alex both spoke Spanish exclusively until first grade. Kat was raised in Miami and is a first-generation American from a Cuban family, and Alex is of Puerto Rican descent, originally hailing from Northwestern Georgia and later moved to Miami. Their familial experiences and musical tastes consisted of exposure to both Country and Latin music, which they have taken inspiration from to create their unique sound. Now with “Gira de Desamor,” they continue to pay homage to their Latin heritage and bring a new life to “Heartbreak Tour.”

“Since we first began Kat & Alex, it’s been extremely important for us to include our Latin heritage in our music,” says Kat & Alex. “‘Heartbreak Tour’ was the first song we released written solely by the two of us, so it only made sense to take those lyrics and translate the song fully into Spanish. ‘Gira De Desamor’ takes our personal story of ‘Heartbreak Tour’ and opens the song up to a whole new audience.”

“ Desde que comenzamos Kat & Alex, siempre fue muy importante para nosotros incluir nuestra herencia latina en nuestra música, ” dicen Kat & Alex. “‘ Heartbreak Tour’ es la primera canción que escribimos juntos y tiene mucho sentido de traducirla al Español como ‘Gira de Desamor’ donde tomamos nuestra historia personal de ‘Heartbreak Tour’ y la compartimos con nuestra audiencia hispana. ”

“ Heartbreak Tour ” was originally released in April, and upon its release, the song quickly garnered attention from the likes of  American Songwriter, Billboard, CMT  and  The New York Times  who dubbed the song “an earnest power country slow-burner.”

Earlier this month, Kat & Alex were named  CMT ’s Next Up Now Artist of the Month for June 2021.  CMT  premiered the music video for “Heartbreak Tour” on CMT Music and  CMT.com  and is on rotation throughout the month of June. Watch the video now  HERE  .

Katt Williams on “Club Shay Shay” with Shannon Sharpe

On Jan. 3, Shannon Sharpe dropped the two-part, nearly three-hour “Club Shay Shay” interview with Williams.

Right out of the gate, Williams was forthright with Sharpe about his intentions for the tell-all talk.

“This is the other side of Kirk Franklin praise,” Williams laughed.

“I have watched all of these lowbrow comedians disrespect you in your face and tell you straight-up lies,” he continued.

For the next two hours and 46 minutes, Williams gets earnest about  Kevin Hart  (“no one in Hollywood has a memory of a sold-out Kevin Hart show”),  Cedric the Entertainer  (“He over here looking like a walrus” and alleged that he stole one of his jokes from Comic View for The Kings of Comedy Tour),  Steve Harvey  (“You couldn’t be a movie star”),  Chris Tucker  (“the Chris Tucker that we have now is Epstein Island Chris Tucker, not Smokey”) and  Rickey Smiley  (he “can’t act”) among many, many others.

Other major highlights include a rant about joining the Illuminati with  Ludacris  and then roasted him, saying he “ended up with a light-skinned ugly-face wife” and a mix-up over Wanda Smith (who he did talk about) and  Wanda Sykes .

If you want to watch for yourself on YouTube, you can find the entire Club Shay Shay interview here:

Steve Stricker withdraws from PGA Championship

Change Text Size

Steve Stricker has withdrawn from the PGA Championship, the tournament announced Sunday. He was replaced in the field by Alex Smalley.

There are currently 154 players in the field for the PGA Championship, which begins Thursday at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Spots are being held in the field for the winners of the Wells Fargo Championship and Myrtle Beach Classic. If either winner is already exempt for the PGA, then players will get into the PGA off of the alternate list.

Stricker is currently competing in the Regions Tradition. Stricker, the two-time defending champion, held the 36-hole lead but will enter Sunday’s final round in fourth place after shooting 73 on Saturday.

Stricker said earlier in the week that he was undecided if he had the stamina to play the PGA one week after one of PGA TOUR Champions’ majors. Stricker also is scheduled to defend his title at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship on May 23-26, one week after the PGA Championship.

“I'd love to be there because it is a big event, but it's a big course,” Stricker, 57, said earlier this week. “I'm tired. I'm old. You know, I know where my place is. I'm gonna assess where I'm at. But I'm kind of leaning towards I'm not going."

Smalley, a second-year PGA TOUR player from Greensboro, North Carolina, is 124th in the FedExCup standings with one top-10 in 14 starts. He is T7 entering Sunday’s final round of the Myrtle Beach Classic.

Stricker’s victory in last year’s Senior PGA Championship got him into the field at Valhalla. The Senior PGA was one of six PGA TOUR Champions victories last year for Stricker, who also won the Charles Schwab Cup.

Stricker played the three previous PGA Championships at Valhalla, finishing T26 in 1996, missing the cut in 2000 and T7 in 2014.

The PGA will be Smalley’s third major championship. He missed the cut in the 2017 U.S. Open while still an amateur, then finished T23 in last year’s PGA.

While on tour, he will perform at the Prudential Center in Newark on March 21 and then at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 22 .

If you are an AMEX cardholder you can access the American Express Card Member Entrance at the Barclays Center, which allows you to skip the line and enter the arena before non-cardmembers, and get discounts at concession stands.

If you are able to get tickets for his “Heaven On Earth Tour,” expect to hear jokes about the Illuminati, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Ron DeSantis, Nick Cannon and several other well-known figures, just like in Williams’ Netflix special.

If you want to see Katt Williams live, there will be an American Express presale which will begin on May 15 at 10 a.m. and will end on May 17 at 9 a.m.

The general sale will then begin on May 17 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster .

If you miss out on presale and general sale tickets, then comedy fans can find tickets on StubHub , Vivid Seats , TicketCity and SeatGeek .

‘The Way Home’ Creators Hint at What’s Next for Kat’s ‘Confusing’ Love Triangle: ‘It’s an Impossible Situation’

The Way Home

For anyone who watches “ The Way Home ” knows that sometimes, it can get a little confusing with so many different time periods going on at once. That’s the case for the executive producers too. During an FYC panel for the hit Hallmark Channel series on May 8, the showrunners admitted that it takes a lot of work and research to keep everything straight.

Popular on Variety

So, will she be with her longtime best friend or a man who was alive 210 years ago, who she can only see when diving into a pond — and how does planning that out not get confusing?

“It’s always confusing,” Conkie said with a laugh. “We know that Kat can’t leave her daughter and stay in the past, because that would be the ultimate sacrifice. At the same time, it’s wonderful to keep Elliot’s love story with Kat and the Thomas slow burn. They really didn’t like each other at all and we watched it go step by step by step until they were actually kissing for the first time in episode 10.”

Reed also wanted to point out that “Kat married her high school boyfriend,” so she didn’t get the chance to date a lot, hinting that there may be more of single Kate in the future. “I don’t think the Tinder scene was all there.”

“We never really set out to pit them against one another, it was just, here’s this and here’s that. It was never an intention to you know make it a competition per se,” Clarke said of Thomas and Elliot, echoing her mother’s comment about how it’d, logistically, be difficult for Kat and Thomas to have a real relationship. “It is an impossible situation really, if you actually take that step back and think about it, in a very similar way that the Alice and Nick relationship was in Season 1. That was something that was really intriguing to us as Kat experienced being there for Alice and this weirdness of that.”

In the finale, Andie MacDowell’s Del also began opening up again to the idea of dating for the first time since her husband’s death, connecting with her neighbor, Sam (Rob Stewart). During Season 1, Del met a new man, Byron (Nigel Whitmey) — but MacDowell wasn’t into it.

“These ladies are fantastic because I didn’t feel that season one was the right chemistry for Del. I just felt like she’s been through so much and she needed someone tougher,” McDowell said. “I think it’s working a lot better. It has great potential. She was so in love with Colton, and he’s still. He still haunts her.”

While the creators wouldn’t reveal whether or not Del will ever take a dip in the pond, it’s likely she will find out about the time traveling this season, thanks to Jacob’s arrival at the series finale’s end. Reed noted, “Jacob’s about to walk in that door in his 1800s clothes, and he’s going to have to have a pretty good reason.”

“The Way Home” is available to stream on Hallmark Movies Now and Peacock.

2024 PGA Championship odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

L ouisville will be the center of the golf world this week with the 2024 PGA Championship in town for the 2nd major of the year. Valhalla Golf Club is hosting this storied event for 2nd time in 10 years. In 2014 Rory McIlroy won it to claim his 3rd major championship. The 1st round tees off on Thursday morning from Kentucky.

Below, we look at BetMGM Sportsbook's 2024 PGA Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions .

World No. 1  Scottie Scheffler hasn't played since winning the RBC Heritage the week after winning the Masters, but he'll be back in the field this week following the birth of his 1st child and in search of his 2nd straight major title. He's the betting favorite again at +450, followed by McIlroy (+750) and Xander Schauffele (+1400), who dueled on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Championship. Reigning PGA Champion Brooks Koepka is at +1600 in his quest for a 4th Wanamaker Trophy.

The field also includes 4-time PGA Championship winner Tiger Woods , who opens at +15000 to win. Woods finished 60th at the Masters (+16).

Valhalla Golf Club is yet another long PGA Championship course, coming in at 7,609 yards. It's a par 71, making it an even more challenging track at that length. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1986 and this is the 4th time it is hosting a PGA Championship (1986, 2000, 2014). Hitting the fairway is critical because of how lush the rough is, penalizing players for missing with errant tee shots.

PGA Championship – Expert picks

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook ; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Monday at 2:32 p.m. ET.

Brooks Koepka (+1600)

Koepka is a big-game hunter and the PGA Championship is his specialty. He's won this event 3 times already, claiming the title in 2018, 2019 and 2023. He finished 2nd in 2021 at Kiawah, too, behind only Phil Mickelson . Koepka did not have a good week at the Masters (T-49, +9), but he's since gotten back on track, finishing 10th in Adelaide and winning in Singapore, his last 2 LIV starts. With a U.S. Open-type layout, Koepka has the ability to grind through 4 rounds better than most players.

Ludvig Aberg (+1800)

Aberg withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship last week due to a knee injury, but that seems to be more of a precaution than a serious ailment for the 24-year-old star. In his 1st career major start at the Masters in April, he finished 2nd, showing that no stage is too big for him. He has the all-around game to win a PGA Championship, too, being one of the best drivers and long-iron players in the world.

Rory McIlroy (+750)

This number was a bit higher before McIlroy won in convincing fashion at Quail Hollow on Sunday, but he's still worth betting at +750. He's now won in back-to-back starts and heads to Valhalla where he won the 2014 PGA Championship. With the Masters pressure behind him, he can play more freely in Louisville this week knowing this event doesn't come with the burden of attempting to complete the grand slam.

PGA Championship picks – Contenders

Will zalatoris (+6000).

In Zalatoris' last 5 starts at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open, he's finished 6th, 8th, MC, 2nd and 2nd. Few players in the world have had better recent success in those 2 major championships than Zalatoris, and it's largely because the best ball-strikers rise to the top in these events. He's a great bet for any PGA Championship, especially at +6000. That number is much longer than you'd expect from his major history.

Cameron Smith (+4000)

The biggest concern with Smith is his driving accuracy. He can get a bit wild off the tee, which at a course like Valhalla can be particularly penalizing. But if he can manage to keep it in the short grass, he'll be peppering these greens to give himself good looks at birdies. And when he misses the green, he has an excellent short game to scramble and recover for pars. He's finished 13th and 9th in his last 2 PGA Championship starts.

Jason Day (+5500)

Day is a past PGA Champion, winning in 2015 at Whistling Straits. He struggled in this championship in recent years but he has 6 career top-10s in the PGA Championship. Day is playing well at the moment, fresh off a T-4 at the Wells Fargo Championship last week, a good test before the year's 2nd major.

PGA Championship picks – Long shots

Jake knapp (+17500).

Knapp has all the talent in the world, but he can be inconsistent, particularly with his driver. When the timing of his swing is off, he tends to have a bad left miss off the tee, which has hurt him in recent months. But as we saw at the Mexico Open and Cognizant Classic in back-to-back weeks when he finished 1st and 4th, he's a star when the swing is timed up properly. He has the length to conquer Valhalla, too.

Alex Noren (+12500)

It's been 3 months since Noren finished worse than 24th in any event. He's on a heater right now and while that may not translate to a major win (he has zero career PGA Tour victories), he's worth considering at this price. Noren ranks 8th on tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green so his ball-striking is fantastic.

Cam Davis (+15000)

Davis was having a good week in Charlotte until he shot 6-over in the final round to tumble down the leaderboard, all the way to T-38. He surprised a lot of people when he came in 3rd at the 2023 PGA Championship and he's now made the cut in 3 straight years at this major.
