2023 LEGENDS TOUR: BIGGER PRIZE FUNDS WITH NEW VENUES IN SCOTLAND AND IRELAND
- Golfing World
The Legends Tour will continue to build on its star quality with a global 2023 schedule which features exciting debuts for two stunning links venues, in Scotland and in Ireland, and increased prize funds across the board for many of the game’s most decorated players.
The 2023 season will feature at least 18 tournaments with a record-breaking prize fund – with final numbers set to be released shortly – which will be a significant increase on the 2022 campaign.
Among the exciting developments for 2023 is the news that the spectacular Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen will host the Tour for the first time when the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship is played from August 24-27.
The Scottish venue is joined on the schedule by another breath-taking links newcomer, with Seapoint Golf Links – a rising star in the ranks of Irish links courses and located on the East coast, just an hour north of Dublin – set to host a major international professional event for the first time from June 23-25 when the Irish Legends comes to town.
The JCB Championship will return from August 3-5 after a glorious debut in 2022, when a host of superstars including Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Darren Clarke and Paul Lawrie descended upon the spectacular Uttoxeter venue, with Germany’s Alex Cejka finishing two shots clear of Ireland’s Paul McGinley to lift the title.
Among the other returning highlights on the new-look schedule are July’s Swiss Seniors Open at Golf Club Bad Ragaz, the WINSTONgolf Senior Open in Germany in September, the Italian Senior Open in October and November’s Farmfoods European Senior Masters in Spain.
A new English event, the Legends Players Championship, will be held for the first time in 2023, joining the JCB Championship and the Jersey Legends in a triumvirate of confirmed England-based tournaments.
Major glory may be on the cards for the biggest stars of the Legends Tour, with the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex visiting Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in 2023, while the KitchenAid US PGA Senior Championship will be played at PGA Frisco, Texas and the US Senior Open will take place at Wisconsin’s SentryWorld Golf Course.
The Tour will once again close with the MCB Tour Championship Mauritius, which has provided a fitting finale to the popular competition for more than a decade. At the 2022 edition of the event, staged in December, South African James Kingston lifted the John Jacobs Trophy as the Order of Merit leader despite an impressive display by tournament winner Thomas Bjørn.
Many golfers hoping to make their mark on the Legends Tour in 2023 will have to first prove themselves at the Tour’s Qualifying School this month, which returns for the first time in three years. The venue for the high-stakes event will be Gloria Golf Resort in Belek, Turkey, where players will battle it out to earn one of five spots on the Tour.
Phil Harrison, Legends Tour CEO, said: “Since rebranding as the Legends Tour in 2020, our central ambition has been to keep growing, and this 2023 schedule is another incredibly exciting step forward in the evolution of our Tour.
“We have some stunning new venues to add to the long list of world-class golf courses which we visit on an annual basis. We are thrilled that, for the first time, our players will compete on two spectacular links venues in Trump International and Seapoint, while the addition of the English Masters means another big event for the famously passionate British golf fans.
“We extend our thanks to all of our host venues, sponsors and partners for being part of this journey and we look forward to welcoming them back in 2023 for what is set to be an exhilarating season for our players, our celebrities and our fans.”
The Legends Tour is the brainchild of entrepreneur Ryan Howsam, who bought a majority stake in the then-named European Senior Tour and set about rebranding the Tour in 2020. A prestigious competition featuring some of golf’s finest players aged 50 and over, the reimagined Legends Tour became a fan favourite and promises to be better than ever in 2023.

LJT Alamo Shootout Set for Dec. 14-15
FAIR OAKS RANCH – The Alamo Shootout will be played at Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club on Dec. 14-15. The first Alamo Shootout was played in 2010, and after a brief hiatus between 2012-16, the only Legends Junior Tour championship played in the San Antonio area returned to the schedule in 2017. “The Legends Junior Tour really benefits from having great junior golfers from all over the state and the golf courses in San Antonio are some of the best,” LJT Tournament Director Kevin Porter said. “Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club will be a great test for our players, and the Alamo Shootout has secured a strong field each year since it was put back on the schedule.” Last year, Hayes Hamilton of Kingwood fired a final round 3-under 69 at Sonterra Country Club’s North Course to capture the Boys 15-18 Division. Houston’s Sora Kim climbed back from five shots behind the first-round leader and won the Girls 12-18 Division by three. In the Boys 14 & Under Division, Daniel Moon of Temple carded rounds of 76-73 to run away with the title by nine strokes. The 2019 field includes some of the top LJT players and will be divided into a Boys and Girls Division. Scheduled for 36-holes of individual stroke play, the 84-player field will look to earn exemptions into 2020 LJT championships. The 93rd Texas Junior Amateur Champion, Zach Heffernan, hopes to add another LJT title to his 2019 season. The Fair Oaks Ranch native will tee it up against 60 players in the Boys Division, including three who finished in the top-10 of the Boys 14 & Under Player of the Year Standings: Trenton Mierl and Kevin Mu of Austin and Nathan Marion of San Antonio. Nicole Vivier of Austin highlights the Girls Division. The 2024 Southern Methodist University commit won the 93rd Texas Junior Amateur and finished runner-up at the Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship. The Girls Division also includes Tillie Claggett of The Woodlands who won the North Texas Classic and finished runner-up at the Texas Junior Golf Alliance Invitational in Oct. “This is the first year the LJT has moved the Alamo Shootout into December and it will be the first time since I started (2014) we’ve had an event this late in the year,” Porter said. “Golfers are always looking for a chance to compete and the Legends Junior Tour features some of the best players not just in the state of Texas, but across the country.” Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club’s Live Oak Course will play host to the Alamo Shootout for the first time. The 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby in 1993. The oak tree-lined fairways and rolling terrain of the Hill Country create a scenic test of golf for players of all skill levels. For more information on the Alamo Shootout, click here .

Rose Zhang Makes Late Run to Capture Second LPGA Tour Victory at Cognizant Founders Cup
A thank you to my mother.

- Tournament News
CLIFTON, N.J. — Rose Zhang is back. Nearly a year after shocking the golf world by winning in her first start as a professional on the LPGA Tour, Zhang has once again found victory lane on the biggest stage in women’s golf, playing her final five holes in 4-under to win by two shots over Madelene Sagstrom at Upper Montclair Country Club.
Zhang was one shot behind the Swede to start the final round, and after Sagstrom bogeyed the first hole, the pair were tied at 18-under. But Sagstrom recovered with a birdie on the par-5 2nd hole to get back to 19-under and once again move one ahead of Zhang. Zhang tied the lead with a birdie on the par-4 4th hole and then both players birdied No. 5, sitting in a tie at 20-under with 13 holes to play.
Sagstrom then made birdies on the par-3 6th and par-3 8th holes to get to 22-under, parring the ninth to lead Zhang by two shots with nine holes remaining. The 31-year-old then extended her advantage to three with a birdie on the par-5 12th hole, but Zhang wasn’t about to lie down and quit.
The 20-year-old closed the gap with a one-two punch of birdies on 14 and 15 to get to 22-under overall, and when Sagstrom bogeyed the par-4 16th hole, the duo were all tied up coming down the last two holes. Zhang birdied the par-3 17th hole to pick up another shot on Sagstrom, now sitting one stroke ahead at 23-under with only the tricky par-4 18th hole left to play.
Both Zhang and Sagstrom found the fairway off the tee and hit spectacular approach shots inside 15 feet into the challenging 18th green, with Zhang ultimately having the honor of playing first. Admittedly shaking with nerves, Zhang lined up her winning birdie putt and stroked it confidently, showing no signs of having anything but ice in her veins.
And when the ball tumbled over the edge of the cup, it was a reaction of complete relief from Zhang. She had finally captured her second victory on the LPGA Tour, a win that felt like it had eluded the young superstar for longer than necessary since she became a Rolex First-Time Winner last year in New Jersey.
“Honestly, today has been a roller coaster. I knew it was going to be a grind,” said Zhang, who carded a bogey-free, 6-under 66 in the final round. “I think coming out I had those expectations of today, I really have to find it in me to even play well, let alone win. Madelene has been playing rock-solid golf. She's been blowing away the field, so I’ve just been trying to keep up.
“Coming down the stretch, I hit some crazy shots that I don't know if I could hit again in that moment of pressure and was able to get it done. That putt on the last hole, I was already shaking over the putt, but just thinking, okay, let's give it a chance, roll it. If it goes in, fine. If it doesn't, let's prepare ourselves for a playoff.”
This is the second time that Zhang has converted her 54-hole lead/co-lead into a victory, having also led by two shots through three rounds at the 2023 Mizuho Americas Open before going on to defeat Jennifer Kupcho in a playoff at Liberty National Golf Club. Her Cognizant Founders Cup title is her second Tour title since she accepted the immediate LPGA Tour membership offered as part of her non-member win in Jersey City, N.J. in 2023 and is Zhang’s second professional win in a span of 343 days.
If you had asked Zhang last spring if she could’ve guessed how much success she’d have this early into her tenure as a professional golfer, the young talent definitely wouldn’t have believed you.
But sitting in this moment now as a two-time LPGA Tour winner, Zhang couldn’t be more grateful to have had the opportunities she has over the last year and has solidified her place as a budding superstar in women’s golf.
“I was even considering not turning pro, from last May or two years back,” said Zhang. “I wanted to come out here and be able to compete against the best in the world. In order to have that, I had to work my way up. Coming out here, clearly everyone's such incredible players with incredible resumes. Every person in the field basically has a win under their belt. I think being able to even come out with a win, coming out with two, I’m just very blessed.”
Overcoming external expectations can sometimes be a challenge for a professional athlete, and after all the accomplishments she racked up in 2023, Zhang was definitely feeling a bit of pressure coming into her first full season as an LPGA Tour member in 2024. But all those nerves are assuaged after today’s victory, and it feels like Zhang can finally relax a little bit and enjoy life on Tour a little bit more, something she’s excited to do in the coming months with some of the biggest events in the game on her summer schedule.
“Coming out here on Tour, there was a lot of expectations on me to perform, especially after what I did at Mizuho last year,” said Zhang. “Sometimes the noise did get to me a little bit, but I had such a good support group around me. I had people who really stuck in and told me to take it one at a time.
“It's crazy to come out here. Didn't have any expectation of having to win because I realize that it's all just noise, and I have to be able to work at it myself and try my best to put myself in positions like this. But no matter what happened this week, I would've been very satisfied and it reignited my passion for the game once again.”

DP World Tour unveils venues for 2024 Qualifying School
12.11pm 10th May 2024 - Sponsorship & Events
The 2024 DP World Tour Qualifying School schedule has been announced and includes five new venues, an increase in First Stage opportunities and a return to INFINITUM for its dramatic conclusion, as professionals and amateurs from across the world look to secure their place on Europe’s top tier tour.
Hopefuls will compete through three stages, as they look to add their name to a growing list of Major Champions, World Number Ones and Ryder Cup stars that have been produced at Qualifying School since its inception in 1976.
The Qualifying School will visit 15 venues from August to November and will once again conclude with Final Stage at Costa Dorada’s award-winning INFINITUM resort.
All five venues making their Qualifying School debuts will act as First Stage hosts, as the number of First Stage opportunities increases from nine to ten, giving additional players the chance to earn one of the DP World Tour cards on offer.
Golf Nazionale in Italy will make its Qualifying School bow fresh from hosting the Junior Ryder Cup last year, while Moonah Links is also a new venue and sees Qualifying School return to Australia for a third successive year. There are debuts on the schedule too for Golf de Léry Poses in France, Huddersfield Golf Club in England and Horsens Golfklub in Denmark.
Second Stage will take place across Spain, with the same four venues returning to the schedule; Desert Springs Resort in Almeria, Isla Canela Links in Huelva, Golf Las Pinaillas in Albacete and Fontanals Golf Club in Girona.
Mike Stewart, DP World Tour Qualifying School Director, said: “We’re excited to be able to share the full schedule for the 2024 DP World Tour Qualifying School, and we’re delighted to welcome our five new host venues.
“Increasing First Stage opportunities from nine to ten is an important change for 2024, as we hope to give more players the opportunity to clinch one of the coveted DP World Tour cards that are up for grabs.
“All 15 venues will provide a true test to those teeing it up and those that do come through the three-stage process will be ready to compete on the DP World Tour in 2025.
“INFINITUM has provided the perfect setting for Final Stage over the past five years, and we’re looking forward to returning there for a sixth time. It is a truly first-class venue and we’re grateful for their continued help and hospitality. It is a true highlight of our schedule.”
Joaquín Mora Bertrán, Deputy General Manager of Golf, Beach Club and F&B ad INFINITUM, said: “We are delighted to welcome one of golf’s most exciting events back to INFINITUM. This is a very exciting time for INFINITUM, with major investment across the entire resort making the experience for visiting players, DP World Tour hopefuls and our members and residents even better. Earlier this year, we announced major improvements to the Lakes, and we are excited to see how the players react when they take on the renovated course – along with the equally enjoyable Hills – in November.
The Final Stage of Qualifying School will take place at INFINITUM from November 8-13, 2024, where 156 players will compete over six rounds.
Entries for the DP World Tour Qualifying School will open in June, with an official date yet to be confirmed.

Love Nazareth! Please do a tour date in Chicago, Illinois soon! My husband and I would love to buy tickets to see you! Nazareth is one of our favorite bands!
I loved every second of it. Small venues are always the best, because you can get closer and almost feel like you are in the show rather just watching it.
Great band, great energy and even banter. Totally recommend them

Embedded in popular culture, their landmark diamond-selling 1987 opus, Appetite For Destruction , stands out as “the best-selling U.S. debut album ever” and “the 11 th best-selling U.S. album of all time, ” while their Not In This Lifetime… Tour (2016-2019) ranked as the “fourth-highest grossing concert tour of all time . ” During 1991, Guns N’ Roses shook the world with the one-two punch of the 7x-platinum Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II , clinching the top two spots of the Billboard 200 upon arrival. With total sales of 100 million units thus far, their catalog also consists of G N’ R Lies (5x-platinum), The Spaghetti Incident? (platinum), Greatest Hits (5x-platinum), and Chinese Democracy (platinum). Not to mention, they are one of the most-streamed rock bands in the world with an average of 24 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Following the reunion of the century, they headlined Coachella and sold 5 million-plus tickets on the Not In This Lifetime… Tour . However, Guns N’ Roses never stop with more touring on the horizon in 2023 and other surprises—the “Nightrain” keeps rolling at full speed.
