When you want an Italian meal like your mother-in-law use to cook on Sundays after Mass go to Louis Seafood. You can pick your pasta and your sauce anyway you want it. Pasta dishes arrive from the kitchen steaming hot and piled high. Meat dishes... are perfectly covered without being smothered. Step back 50 years when restaurants always served an individual crisp, iceberg lettuce-with-tomato-topped-with-a-sliced-onion in a little brown salad bowl. The kids will love the warm italian bread refilled over and over again. Louis doesn't raise an eyebrow when you keep asking for more pads of butter, more olive oil, sauce on the side, extra dishes. Isn't this what we all want from a family restaurant: the feeling of generosity? When you need a meal that feels like the kitchen is being run by family, a meal that isn't stingy, when you want your pasta cooked to order and your sauce to be a no-nonsense recipe that has survived generations, go to Louis Seafood. Real marinara sauce does not call attention to itself, instead it does its job...to comfort you just like Mama. Don't be surprised if one of the owners, sitting at a nearby table, gets up and brings you extra parmesan cheese because he overheard your wanted more. More

This place is great, and has been for quite a while. We are almost never disappointed with the food, and we've been eating there for many years. We mostly have it delivered. It's become a regular dinner fare for us. We've basically been to every... Italian restaurant in the Bronx at least once (at one time or another). The food here is excellent. We've always have a very agreeable meal. I would heartily recommend the Rib Steak and/or the Chicken Scarpiello (with Porcini peppers) either one will be sure to please. More

We go to this restaurant every time we visit family in NY, it is by far one of the best italian restaurants in the area. We were there Dec.28th with family (15). The service was outstanding and the food was very good. House wine was... great. Price is very reasonable. I would be very sad if this family restaurant ever closed down been going since 1971! More

When I dine, I expect good food and good service. At Louis Seafood, the food is not the best. The service needs a lot of improvements. When one dines here, the staff, especially the owners tend to stare at you. I'm not sure why. And... no, not just me, they stare at everyone. They just have a blank look on their faces. When one dines, one should be greeted properly, seated promptly, and above all, be friendly to your customers. Without us, there would be no need to have a restuarant. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!!! More

Louis Seafood Restaurant is below average. The food is not the greatest but comes with the price tag of a better than average restaurant. The side salads are a joke. I would prefer not getting a salad. It is about 5 pieces of lettuce etc... put into a dinner style tiny bowl. Service is horrible. More

Unfortunately, the occasion was a sad one-- a luncheon following a funeral at St. Raymond's Cemetery. The ambiance is quite informal and this restaurant has been a fixture in the Throgg's Neck section of the Bronx for many decades. However, I must say that the... food was rather pedestrian and the wait staff was slow and indifferent towards its customers. I would not recommend it. More

When we walked in we were not greeted but instead told go to the back. The back was a private room with a party we didn't belong to. After we were finally seated we waited about 15 minutes before our drink orders were taken. We... then waited over 45 minutes for our food to arrive after we placed our order. We later found out our waitress was the owner Rosemarie! She was rude, inattentive & unapologetic. The decor is outdated and the bathroom is not up to par. This was overall a terrible dining experience. More

Louis is one of the oldest restaurant's in the area. They have good food, with a good portion. One draw back is they never give back to the steady customer's, not even with a glass of wine. I have been going there for over 25... years. More

We have called into Louis several times over the past couple of years whilst sailing in the sound but never fancied dinning there. It always seemed quantity over quality. So this time we decided to give it a try. My friend & I only wanted... a snack so we ordered the crab cakes. They came as a portion of two. The waitress tried to get us to increase our order with sides or a double portion. Not good. My husband had the burger which he said was ok. Although the meal was good & the setting is exceptional. It's very over priced. I'm not sure I would rush to go back. There is mooring for your dinghy or the water taxi offers a great service if your moored out in the bay. More

Visited New Years Eve. The restaurant was crowded with families having dinner. The service was very good considering the crowd. Drinks and appetizers came quick with plenty of hot bread. Meals were nice size. Chicken Parm with croquets were very good.

If this restaurant was in the Heart of manhattan CARMINES,IL MULINOS,PATSYS, you name it cant even come close OLD STYLE THICK SAUCES at Louie's if I'm not mistaken they used Louie's restaurant in the 1st godfather when al Pacino went to the bathroom and returned... with pistol THATS HOW THIS PLACE FEELS OLD SCHOOL GREAT FOOD my favorite shrimp parmigiana is DELICIOUS! Enjoyed a great visit to this restaurant!! The service was very friendly and helpful in suggestions. We had a traditional NY pizza as an "appetizer." Wow was it good. Pizza just won't be the same anymore. For main courses I had the vodka penne and... others had the lasagne and eggplant Parmesan. No one was disappointed. (Unless you consider it disappointing that we couldn't eat all our food and several of us left in a blissful food coma. ;-) ). Check it out if you're in the vicinity. Yum yum! More

An air conditioner seems as if it cools your home’s air, but it actually makes your home less warm by removing heat from the indoor air and transferring that heat to the outdoor air.

Heat is extracted from the home by passing indoor air across a refrigerant coil in the indoor unit. Refrigerant lines then carry the heat to the outdoor unit, where it is released into the outside air. The cooling cycle continues until the indoor temperature reaches the thermostat setting.

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is a system for rating the efficiency of cooling equipment. The higher the SEER rating, the less your unit will cost to operate.

HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) is a measurement similar to SEER, but it measures the efficiency of the heating portion of a heat pump.

Two-stage cooling means the air conditioner or heat pump has a compressor with two levels of operation: high for hot summer days and low for milder days. Since the low setting is adequate to meet household-cooling demands 80% of the time, a two-stage unit runs for longer periods and produces more even temperatures.

Longer cooling cycles also translate to quieter, more efficient operation and enhanced humidity control. Compared to a single-stage unit, a two-stage air conditioner or heat pump can remove twice as much moisture from the air. This is important because when moisture levels are high, there’s a higher potential for mold and other pollutant problems.

The only reliable way to determine the size that best matches the needs of your home is to have a trusted Soundview Heat and Air Conditioning Corp. associate perform a load calculation, which takes into account the square footage of your house, the insulation value of your windows, the amount of insulation in your walls and roof and many other factors.

A heat pump is an all-in-one heating and air conditioning system that works year-round to keep you comfortable.

During warmer months, a heat pump works as a normal air conditioner. It extracts heat from inside the home and transfers it to the outdoor air. In colder weather, however, the process reverses—the unit collects heat from the outdoor air and transferring it inside your home.

Even when the air outside feels extremely cold, the air still contains some heat. The heat pump pulls the heat from this cold outdoor air and sends it inside to warm your home. When there’s not enough heat in the outside air to meet the demand of the thermostat setting, an electric heater supplements the outdoor air to warm the home. Extremely efficient, this process produces two to three times more heat than the energy it uses.

Also, a heat pump can be an effective add-on option to use in conjunction with an existing gas furnace. With this dual-fuel option, the two systems share the heating load, but never function at the same time. Each system operates when it is most cost effective. The heat pump will be the primary heating and cooling system. However, when the temperature drops below the heat pump’s ability to operate as efficiently as the gas furnace, the gas furnace will take over until the temperature rises enough for the heat pump to operate more efficiently.

Factors to consider:

When the cost of repairs approaches 50% of the value of your heating or cooling system, it’s generally time to replace the system.

Even if needed repair costs aren’t quite as daunting as 50%, you might want to replace your system if it’s more than 12 years old or you’ve had a history of problems with it. Also, it might be worthwhile to take advantage of one of several opportunities:

When you purchase a new system, you can avoid the hassle of unexpected repairs down the line, and you don’t have to sit around uncomfortable while waiting for parts.

You can recover up to 30% of the cost of select high-efficiency systems in the form of tax credits.

Advanced technologies that improve energy efficiency also enhance your comfort, so you can enjoy more even temperatures, better humidity control and a constant flow of conditioned air.

Bronx, NY, April 12, 2023 – In a moving ceremony held this Friday, New York State Senator Luis Sepúlveda presented the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Award to Bronx native Mike Nieves. This honor is bestowed upon individuals who demonstrate a lifetime of volunteer service, and Senator Sepúlveda is one of the few elected officials authorized to present this award in New York.  

During the ceremony, Senator Sepúlveda highlighted the substantial impact of Mr. Nieves's efforts, which span several decades of selfless community service. "Mike Nieves represents the very best of our community," said Senator Sepúlveda. "His commitment to service and improving the lives around him embodies the spirit of this award. Today, we honor a true hero of the community whose volunteer work has lifted up so many lives."  

Mr. Nieves has been an active volunteer since his youth, engaging in various community projects, including youth mentoring programs, neighborhood cleanups, and food drives. His initiatives have not only enriched the lives of individuals in the Bronx but have also set a powerful example of civic engagement and responsibility.

Congress calls a Boeing whistleblower to testify about defects in planes | LIVE

WASHINGTON -- Boeing will be in the spotlight during back-to-back hearings Wednesday, as Congress examines allegations of major safety failures at the embattled aircraft manufacturer.

The first session will feature members of an expert panel that found serious flaws in Boeing's safety culture.

The main event will be a second hearing featuring a Boeing engineer who claims that sections of the skin on 787 Dreamliner jets are not properly fastened and could eventually break apart. The whistleblower's lawyer says Boeing has ignored the engineer's concerns and prevented him from talking to experts about fixing the defects.

The whistleblower, Sam Salehpour, sent documents to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is investigating the quality and safety of Boeing's manufacturing.

Salehpour is scheduled to testify Wednesday before a Senate investigations subcommittee. Another Boeing whistleblower - Ed Pierson, a former manager on the Boeing 737 program - and two other aviation technical experts are also on the witness list.

The Democrat who chairs the panel and its senior Republican have asked Boeing for troves of documents going back six years.

The lawmakers are seeking all records about manufacturing of Boeing 787 and 777 planes, including any safety concerns or complaints raised by Boeing employees, contractors or airlines. Some of the questions seek information about Salehpour's allegations about poorly fitted carbon-composite panels on the Dreamliner.

A Boeing spokesperson said the company is cooperating with the lawmakers' inquiry and offered to provide documents and briefings.

The company says claims about the 787's structural integrity are false. Two Boeing engineering executives said this week that in both design testing and inspections of planes - some of them 12 years old - there have been no findings of fatigue or cracking in the composite panels. They suggested that the material, formed from carbon fibers and resin, is nearly impervious to fatigue that is a constant worry with conventional aluminum fuselages.

The Boeing officials also dismissed another of Salehpour's allegations: that he saw factory workers jumping on sections of fuselage on 777s to make them align.

Salehpour is the latest whistleblower to emerge with allegations about manufacturing problems at Boeing. The company has been pushed into crisis mode since a door-plug panel blew off a 737 Max jetliners during an Alaska Airlines flight in January. Investigators are focusing on four bolts that were removed and apparently not replaced during a repair job in Boeing's factory.

The company faces a criminal investigation by the Justice Department and separate investigations by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.

CEO David Calhoun, who will step down at the end of the year, has said many times that Boeing is taking steps to improve its manufacturing quality and safety culture. He called the blowout on the Alaska jet a "watershed moment" from which a better Boeing will emerge.

There is plenty of skepticism about comments like that.

"We need to look at what Boeing does, not just what it says it's doing," said Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which will hold the first of Wednesday's two hearings.

The FAA is also likely to take some hits. Duckworth said that until recently, the agency "looked past far too many of Boeing's repeated bad behaviors," particularly when it certified the 737 Max nearly a decade ago. Two Max jets crashed in 2018 and 2019, killing 346 people, after faulty activations of a flight-control system that FAA did not fully understand.

The leaders of the Senate investigations subcommittee have also requested FAA documents about its oversight of Boeing.

The subcommittee's hearing Wednesday will follow one by the Senate Commerce Committee, which is scheduled to hear from members of an expert panel that examined safety at Boeing. The group said that despite improvements made after the Max crashes, Boeing's safety culture remains flawed and employees who raise concerns could be subject to pressure and retaliation.

One of the witnesses, MIT aeronautics lecturer Javier de Luis, lost his sister in the second Max crash.
