I hope this helps somewhat and I'm sure others who have actually experienced stays at either place will add more comprehensive feedbacks.

Stayed at the Serena and had lunch at the Sarova mara on the way. Serena like said above is in an isolated area of the masai mara Triangle. Service wise both are great. I would stay in both (if you have time) to experinece the tented acommodation as well as to see different areas of the Masai mara, starting with Sarova followed by Serena as it is a bit further out- about two hours from the Gate near Sarova.

Thank you for these recommendations - for game drives and animal sightings would any location have an advantage?

staying for 3 nights so need to pick either one.

So Serena has no fence? do animals end up in the property then?

' class=

I've stayed in both.

I stayed in Sarova Mara last year in a Deluxe Tent which was absolutely beautiful, very large with everything you could possibly want.

Food was excellent, staff were all lovely. I loved the fact that I had a dikdik who came to my terrace and also used to see around the grounds. Also many mongoose were in the grounds. The grounds were beautifully kept, as was the swimming pool area, not that I ever used the pool.

Downside: Power goes off during the night which can really be a nuisance although they supply you with a torch.

No views from the tent.

I stayed at Serena Mara in January.

Small room, very dated bathroom, hot water in shower could be a bit iffy as the pressure wasn't great.

Restaurant always seemed a bit manic and very noisy as there were lots of tour groups staying there. Food wasn't great. I'm a non-meat eater and the options were very limited.

Staff were friendly, unfortunately I have to say not always very efficient.

Upside was the view I had from my room.

I wouldn't stay in the Serena Mara again although I would stay in the Sarova Mara again if I were to visit that area.
