More about your pass

You may have some questions about mytravelpass. Below are some answers you might find helpful.

If this section does not answer your particular question call 0300 200 22 33 or email us using the contact form .

mytravelpass is a scheme funded by the Welsh Government to provide discounted bus fares to young people. It provides people in Wales aged 16 to 21 with approx 1/3 off their bus fare.

Your card will provide approx  1/3 off the equivalent full adult bus fare that you would otherwise be charged for tickets purchased on board the bus. Some operators may offer additional discounts or other purchase options, please refer to your operator for the latest information.

Show your mytravelpass card to the bus driver, who will take the correct amount off the cost of your ticket.

You can use mytravelpass at any time of day and on any day of the week that the services operate, including weekends and bank holidays.

There is no restriction on the type of journey you make when you use mytravelpass. Your journey can be for school or college, visiting friends and leisure.

Anyone living in Wales aged 16 to 21 can use mytravelpass.  You should have a permanent address in Wales or attend full time education in Wales.

Only the person to whom the card is registered to and whose photograph appears on the card is able to use mytravelpass.

If anyone else attempts to use the card then this will be considered as fraud and the card will be cancelled.  You may also face the risk of prosecution.

If you are 16-18 years old all bus companies operate the MyTravelPass scheme. If you are 19-21 years old the list of bus companies who currently operate the scheme can be found here:

Concessionary travel card

Travel Card FAQ

How do i apply for my welsh concessionary travel card.

The quickest and easiest way to apply for your card is on our website. Visit tfw.wales/travelcards and follow the simple instructions. Alternatively, pop into your local library or community hub where you’ll be able to access the internet.

If you prefer, you can also ask a friend, family member or someone you trust to fill in the online application on your behalf.

You’ll need to provide copies of evidence to support your application and a new passport photo.

Don’t worry if you or a friend or family member can’t apply online. You can request a paper application form by emailing [email protected] . Once you’ve completed your form, please return it to Concessionary Travel Card, PO Box 55, Penrhyndeudraeth, LL49 0AY.

Please don’t send originals of any documents like passports or driving licences.

Please note that ‘recorded’ delivery is not available for PO Box addresses.

If you have any enquiries or need any help, please contact us on 03003 034 240 or email [email protected] .

Please be aware that you won’t be able to apply by phone or email.

What information do you need from me to apply for my card?

You’ll need to provide the following information when you apply:

Documentation of your address and postcode so we can check you’re a resident of Wales.

Documentation of your date of birth so we can check you’re entitled to the card you’re applying for.

Your National Insurance number if you’re over 16. You’ll find this on your pension statements, disability statements or payslips.

A recent passport-style photograph. If you're applying on a phone or tablet, you'll be able to take this at the relevant point in your application; or you can upload one from your computer.

If you're applying for a Disabled Person’s Concessionary Travel Card, you'll need electronic copies of documents that prove your entitlement. Please make sure your documentation includes enough detail; for example, every page submitted (don’t forget the document may be two-sided) and allowing us to see the reference numbers at the bottom of every page.

Additional guidance on documentation to evidence address, postcode, date of birth and disability eligibility can be found at tfw.wales/eligibility .

If you’re visiting your local library or community hub, or asking someone to apply on your behalf, please make sure you have all this information available, including your National Insurance number. We can’t process your application without it.

How long does it take to receive my new card?

If your application has been approved, you should receive your card within 10 working days.

Will I be able to sort out my application at my local council office?

Your local council offices will be able to support you with your application.

To find out where local support is available, please contact your local council or call 03003 034 240 . Please be aware that you won’t be able to apply on the phone.

Why haven’t you been able to process my application for a Disabled Person’s Travel Card?

There are several reasons why we might not have been able to process your application:

The documentation doesn’t include enough detail, for example only the front page of the PIP letter has been provided and not the full document showing your full point score.

No official documents have been provided or they are unreadable.

The documentation doesn’t indicate who is eligible for support, for example only the point score page has been provided and not the full document showing your name and address.

The document doesn’t support an application for a Concessionary Travel Card on the grounds of disability.

Here are some examples of documents that will and won’t be accepted:

Example documents

This is my first card; can I reclaim my travel costs while I’ve been waiting for my card to arrive?

While we recognise that waiting for your card to arrive can be frustrating, we’re unable to reimburse any travel costs incurred while you’re waiting for your card to arrive. This has always been the case since the scheme was first introduced in 2009.

I’m waiting for a replacement card; can I reclaim my travel costs while I’ve been waiting for my card to arrive?

I have a disability. am i entitled to a concessionary travel card.

Please refer to the guide on eligibility and the evidence you’ll need to provide .

If you’re still unsure whether you qualify for a Disabled Person’s Concessionary Travel Card, please contact your local council.

I’m disabled and I’m unable to travel alone; how do I apply for my first Disabled Person with Companion Travel Card?

Please refer to the guide on eligibility and the evidence you’ll need to provide .

All companion cards are processed by local councils, so please contact your local council if you require a companion pass.

I’m 60 in a few weeks’ time. When can I apply?

You can apply for a card up to 14 days before your 60th birthday.

Why do you need my National Insurance number?

We fully understand that cardholders are concerned about privacy and confidentiality of personal information.  We take this extremely seriously and have taken many steps to keep your data safe. Our privacy notice provides more information.

The Wales Audit Office publishes a set of data which it recommends that public authorities collect to prevent fraud.  The latest publication is available on the WAO website here .

The section “Concessionary travel passes (ADULT ONLY) - 2018-19 data specification”, lists the National Insurance number as an important identifier and states that “The data required is for all current adult holders of a concessionary travel pass”.

Are my personal details safe?

Keeping your personal data safe is very important to us.

Your information is held securely and used by your local council, the Welsh Government and Transport for Wales to administer the scheme and prevent fraud.

Your card displays your name and the expiry date and doesn’t contain any other personal details.

We’ll processes your information in accordance with the Transport for Wales privacy statement .

I have a Disabled Person or Disabled Person with Companion Travel Card. Why have I been contacted for additional information?

If you hold a Disabled Person or Disabled with Companion Concessionary Travel Card, we will contact you around the date the disability eligibility documentation you provided upon applying expires for additional supporting documents. This is to make sure that you’re still eligible for your card.

Your entitlement revalidation date will usually be different to your card’s printed expiry date.

I need to supply a new photo - what are the requirements?

Your digital photo must:

  • Clearly show your face so your driver can easily recognise you
  • Include your head and shoulders
  • Contain no other objects or people
  • Be taken against a plain light-coloured background

You should:

  • Face forward and look straight at the camera
  • Have a plain expression and your mouth closed
  • Have your eyes open and visible
  • Not have a head covering (unless it's for religious or medical reasons)
  • Not have anything covering your face, including your hair
  • Not have any shadows on your face or behind you

Here are some examples of what photos will and won’t be accepted:

Example photos

We don’t have the same strict requirements as passports (which use the photo for biometric identification) but it’s important that drivers can recognise you from your photo.

I need to supply new documents, what are the requirements?

As well as meeting the eligibility criteria, your documents must:

  • Include enough detail, for example showing the front page of the PIP document and your full point score
  • Be official and readable
  • Indicate who is eligible for support

The easiest way to submit documents is by scanning or photographing them and uploading them to your application at portal.tfw.wales. The pictures of your documents should:

  • Not be too cropped or zoomed
  • Be correctly focused
  • Be taken in good light

How do I use my Concessionary Travel Card?

Using your card is simple. When you get on the bus, all you need to do is show your card to the driver, place your card on the ticket reader and enjoy your free journey.

Please remember your card can only be used by you. Allowing someone else to use it may lead to the card being cancelled and/or its renewal being refused. Where a Disabled Person with Companion Concessionary Travel Card has been issued, the companion will only be allowed to travel for free when accompanying the cardholder for the whole of the bus journey.

Further information is available in the full terms and conditions of the scheme .

Where can I use my Concessionary Travel Card?

Your Concessionary Travel Card is valid on all eligible bus services that operate in Wales. This includes those commencing/terminating at points in England, provided that the cross-boundary journey doesn’t involve a change of bus in England. You can also use selected rail services operating in Wales .

Please be aware that you can’t use your card on coach services such as National Express, Megabus or City Sightseeing. However, companies may offer discounts to Concessionary Travel Cardholders.

What if I lose or damage my new card - who do I contact?

If you lose or damage your card, the quickest and easiest way to request a replacement is by logging into your account on the website.

If you require further support, please contact us on 03003 034 240 or email [email protected] .

Why is there an expiry date on my card?

To comply with GDPR legislation regarding the accuracy of the data we hold about you, we’re no longer able to issue cards that don’t have a printed expiry date. This is because we need to regularly revalidate the information that we hold.

The details on my Concessionary Travel Card are incorrect or have changed; what should I do?

It’s important to keep your personal information up to date. If you change your address or any other details, please let us know at tfw.wales/travelcards . You’ll need to provide documentation for any changes to name or address.

If you require further support, please contact us on 03003 034 240 or email [email protected]

How do I find out about bus times?

Traveline Cymru provides times and route information about all bus, coach, rail, ferry and air services in Wales. They offer an internet-based enquiry service which is available at www.traveline.cymru . You can also call them on 08004 640 000 .

You can also get 1/3 off tickets to travel on the Cardiff and Valley network after 0930 Monday - Friday and any time at weekends and bank holidays.

Has Transport for Wales taken over the concessionary travel scheme from councils?

No - Councils continue to own the concessionary travel scheme under the Transport Act (2000) - we’re managing the scheme on their behalf. Councils still play an important part in the process, including the management of the Disabled Person with Companion cards and providing local support.

A relative has passed away who had a Concessionary Travel Card. How do I cancel it?

Frequently asked questions

All new students will receive their physical travel pass when they come to college to enrol and secure a place on their course *. Returning students will be sent their travel pass through the post in early-mid August, to the address held on our student record system. The card will allow two weeks free travel in late August, early September (dates to be confirmed).

To continue using the travel pass after this period, you will need to purchase your travel pass by visiting trentbarton.co.uk/westnottscollege , then simply create an account and enter the information required. This will include inputting the card serial number (the long number printed on the reverse of the physical card), your unique identification code (provided to you when you received your card), and your payment details.

It is recommended that you purchase your travel entitlement by (Date TBC) to give sufficient time for it to be remotely loaded onto your travel card (otherwise you will pay your bus operator’s standard fare, once the period of free travel ends).

This video will guide you on how to add your travel pass product onto your new card.

The first payment will be made when purchasing the product after enrolment. A second payment will then be taken through a recurring payment in the first month of travel on or around the 20th of the month. This means there will be two payments in the first month, and then eight further payments on or around the 20th of each month through the academic year.

If you qualify for a college bursary, the cost of your travel will be free once you have activated your card on the payment website using your unique code.

Staff that wish to purchase a travel pass should go to room 157 at the Derby Road campus, where you will be issued with a card and your unique identification code. If you are unable to go to room 157, please email [email protected] and these will be sent to you via internal mail. Upon receiving your card, please visit trentbarton.co.uk/westnottscollege , create an account and enter the information required. Please note: The staff pass is for 12 months and cannot be cancelled during this time, which means employees will be committing to £53 per month for the entire period.

If you experience any issues or difficulties with the purchase or activation process, please contact trentbarton, the card-provider, by telephone on 01773 712265 or by email at [email protected] to receive assistance.

* All new students will be required to make their own way to college for enrolment.

- A single travel pass usable on Stagecoach and trentbarton buses across most of Nottinghamshire and parts of Derbyshire.

- Unlimited travel all day, seven days a week, for the duration of your course – allowing you to take a bus to work placements, work experience, part-time jobs, or meet up with friends outside of college.

- A flexible monthly payment scheme instead of a one-off cost.

- Get home more easily from evening events at college such as sport or restaurant activities, homework clubs, societies or evening study in the learning resource centres.

- Build your confidence, independence and life skills by using public transport.

- Dedicated journey-planning websites to help you plan your route to and from college.

- Electronic signage at bus stops, showing arrival times.

- Available to college staff, representing significant savings on standard fares.

This full network map shows all the buses that operate through Mansfield and Sutton. It details the buses that terminate at, or depart from, Mansfield bus station.

This map shows the buses that operate through Sutton bus station (including two drop-off points for route 33, which will mean taking a short walk to the bus station, if required). There is an additional 3c service departing from Sutton Bus Station at 8.15am each college day (term-time only), running to Sutton Junction. Sutton Junction is opposite our Construction Centre and is a short walk from our Engineering Innovation Centre. The 3c will also operate an extra service at 3.50pm and 4.05pm (each college day during term-time) to collect students from Sutton Junction and take them to Sutton bus station. This additional service supplements existing bus routes in the area.

The number 90 now operates an extended service that will now continue into Mansfield (via Sutton), ending its journey at Mansfield bus station. The extended 90 service will connect our Engineering Innovation Centre (Sutton), Construction Centre (Kirkby), Derby Road campus (Mansfield), and Sixth Form College (also in Mansfield). There is also be a new service called the X90 . The X90 is a dedicated, college day (term-time only) express journey from Mansfield bus station at 8.10am, arriving at Sutton Junction at 8.25am, opposite our Construction Centre and a short walk from our Engineering Innovation Centre. This timetable shows the pick-up points and times of the extended 90 service and new X90 service.

- Studying a course for 2 or more days per week and in receipt of a bursary (any age): free (see points (1) and (2))

- Learners aged 16-18: Subsidised price of £18 per month for 10 months - September to June (see point (2))

- T-Level students: free - this is to enable students to attend their mandatory placements with employers

- Adult learners aged 19+: £38 per month for 10 months - September to June

- Apprentices (any age): £38 per month - all year round

- West Notts College staff: £53 per month - all year round

You can purchase your travel pass at any time during your studies and then pay monthly, either manually or by direct debit. However, the period of free travel is from (dates TBC). If you don’t activate your travel pass by this date, you will pay the bus operators’ standard fare.

You will only pay the discounted price, or qualify for free travel, once you have activated your travel pass.

The first payment will be made when purchasing the product. A second payment will then be taken through a recurring payment in the first month of travel on or around the 20th of the month. This means there will be two payments in the first month, followed by further payments on or around the 20th of each month

Because it’s a monthly payment scheme, students pay only for the months that they need the travel pass. This means students can cancel at any time and pay up to the end of the current month. However, you won’t be entitled to a refund covering the remaining part of the month in which you cancel.

The staff pass is for 12 months and cannot be cancelled during this time, which means employees will be committing to £53 per month for the entire period.

You will be able to plan your journey using the Traveline website or this network map . Alternatively, you could use Google Maps. Stagecoach and trentbarton also have maps, timetables and journey planners on their own websites. In addition, there will be a dedicated journey-planning website that you can use on your smartphone and the college will provide a route map.

Unless your bus goes directly to the college campus you attend, you may need to change buses at Mansfield or Sutton bus stations and take a connecting service to your college site.

Buses on college bus routes will pull into two dedicated bays at Mansfield bus station and a single bay at Sutton bus station.

The bus stop outside the Derby Road campus is named ‘West Notts College’ to make it easier for people not familiar with Mansfield or the campus to recognise when they need to get off.

Sutton bus station has also made improvements to its signage to aid student travel.

Nottinghamshire County Council is working towards providing real-time information displays at all bus stops around the four campus sites. There will also be a website containing this information that you can use on your smartphone. We will announce when the new website will go live.

Yes. trentbarton covers routes in Derbyshire, so you will be able to catch one of its buses.

Yes, absolutely! You will be able to use it all day, every day, including evenings and weekends, during the period the travel pass is valid for.

These are public buses, which means other passengers will be on board using these services.

Although there would be disruption if some bus services didn’t operate, the college would implement contingency plans to minimise the impact. In the event of a strike, we would make alternative arrangements, such as allowing students who couldn’t get to college to attend their lessons online instead. However, we are not expecting this to happen.

In the event of bad weather, the college would contact Stagecoach and trentbarton to determine whether services will be affected. We would then decide whether we need to close our campuses – either at an appropriate point in the day, once we are satisfied students/staff can get home safely, or early in the morning if the weather has deteriorated overnight. The college would communicate this by text message, Microsoft Teams, our website and social media pages.

Unfortunately not at the moment. We are in discussions with the train company about whether train travel could be included but no firm decisions have been made. Therefore, it is not part of the current offer.

However, we will continue to talk to the train company about this and press our case.

Please report lost travel cards to the reception at your college campus. A replacement card will be issued at a cost of £5.
