A knight Pokemon, called Armarouge, wearing a suit of armor and shooting a ball of light.

If you’ve played a Pokémon game before, you know how integral TMs are to the franchise, and it’s no different in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet . It’s the major way to teach Pokémon new moves — including ones they may not be able to on their own. They’re a great way to target weaknesses and make your Pokémon more well-rounded for different battles.

There are a huge amount of TMs — 171 to be exact — in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet , spread around Paldea region. You can still find TMs around the world inside glowing yellow Poké Balls, but some are handed out as rewards, and you can also craft them, too. You’ll start the game with a few TMs in your TM inventory already; the number you can craft will grow each time you pick up a TM in a yellow Poké Ball, but also as you meet different milestones. Beating Team Star bases is one major way to unlock a number of TMs at once.

How to craft TMs in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet TM list screen, opened to a move called Fire Pledge

Once you’ve acquired the TM or its recipe, you’ll be able to craft it at the TM Machine at any Pokémon Center. Each TM has its own required resources — if you’ve got a TM recipe, you’ll see the needed ingredients clearly on the page. First, all TMs will require League Points, which are awarded from gym battles and Tera Raid battles.

TMs also need resources that you’ll acquire from battling wild Pokémon or earn from Tera Raid battles. Defeated Pokémon will drop resources related to them — Azurill Fur, Shroodle Ink, Torkoal Coal, and Maschiff Fang, to name a few. Some of the resources will be marked with question marks, but will reveal themselves once you’ve defeated whatever Pokémon the resource is attached to. The full list we’ve compiled below should help figure out which monsters to target to get the desired TM.

Here’s the list of TMs we’ve found and unlocked across Paldea and how to craft them. The world of Paldea is so big that you’ll probably need to do a bit of work to find or unlock these, but if it’s a TM you need to get you through a tough spot, it’ll be worth it. These are the TMs we’ve found and where we found them, with a few gaps filled in with the help of Serebii .

Titan Pokémon

power trip pokemon scarlet

Titan Pokémon (Japanese: ヌシポケモン Leader Pokémon ) are a type of variant Pokémon encountered in the "Path of Legends" storyline of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet . They appear much larger than other Pokémon of their kind, and are guardians of the Herba Mystica , rare ingredients said to be able to restore health instantly when eaten. [1]

power trip pokemon scarlet

200 years ago, the Area Zero exploration team, led by Heath , discovered the Herba Mystica hidden deep within Area Zero , in the Great Crater of Paldea , located in the center of the region . They recorded information on the herbs in the Scarlet Book S / Violet Book V and gave the Herba Mystica their proper name. They subsequently discovered that the Herba Mystica comes in five different flavor varieties with separate healing effects, however may also cause Pokémon to grow huge. Due to the first discovery, the team attempted to grow the herbs outside of Area Zero, in different sites around Paldea , but before they were able to harvest them, the herbs were eaten by Pokémon, leading to the first appearances of Titan Pokémon on the surface. As a result, the project was abandoned.

At some point, a Paradox Pokémon called Great Tusk S / Iron Treads V somehow escaped Area Zero and consumed the Herba Mystica in order become the Quaking Earth Titan.

In Naranja Academy S / Uva Academy V 's library, copies of the Scarlet Book S /Violet Book V can be found with a page detailing the effects of Herba Mystica on Pokémon, such as healing (as seen with an Eevee ) and growing (as seen with a Gible ).

During the events of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet , specifically the Path of Legends story, Arven and the player would face off against the six respective Titan Pokémon. After defeating each Titan, Arven collects the herbs and makes sandwiches in order to heal his wounded partner, Mabosstiff .

  • Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Titan Pokémon are ordinary Pokémon empowered and grown to gigantic proportions by the Herba Mystica they eat. There are a total of five Titan Pokémon fights to accomplish. Each Titan Pokémon is fought twice; the first fight is done alone, while the second fight is done together with Arven . After defeating a Titan Pokémon as part of the story, it can be encountered again in the same area it was fought as a normal-sized Pokémon (albeit one that is the largest possible size for their species), where it can be caught. These Pokémon will have the Titan Mark , which allows them to be given the title "the Former Titan"; they are also guaranteed to have an IV of 30 for all stats.

The Teal Mask

In The Teal Mask DLC, a similar battle state known as Titanic is achieved by the Loyal Three after being resurrected, implied to be caused by the villagers of Mossui Town feeding them Kitakami Mochi made with special herbs.

List of Titan Pokémon

Every Titan Pokémon is battled in multiple phases. First, the player will encounter one as larger-than-usual static encounters in the overworld and battle it. Once its HP is below 10%, it will retreat to its Herba Mystica location to recover and power up. Arven will then join the player to defeat the powered-up Titan Pokémon, which will be fully healed and have twice as much HP as normal in this phase. Once they are defeated, they can be re-battled and caught as Former Titans at the location they were originally encountered.

The Titan Pokémon are battled at the same level and using the same move set each time, including as Former Titans. Former Titans have fixed natures and will have 30 IVs in every stat . If the Titan has two types, its Tera Type will be randomized between its two base types.

The Stony Cliff Titan

Former Titan Klawf always has a Gentle nature.

The Open Sky Titan

Bombirdier is the only Titan Pokémon to have a Hidden Ability . Former Titan Bombirdier always has a Jolly nature.

The Lurking Steel Titan

Former Titan Orthworm always has a Quirky nature.

The Quaking Earth Titan

power trip pokemon scarlet

The Titan Great Tusk is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet , while the Titan Iron Treads is exclusive to Pokémon Violet . Both will always have a Naughty nature as a Former Titan.

The False Dragon Titan

power trip pokemon scarlet

The False Dragon Titan includes three battles, instead of two. Once the player finds Titan Tatsugiri, a Dondozo will suddenly appear and swallow the Tatsugiri, and a battle against Dondozo immediately begins. Once Dondozo's HP is low, it will retreat to its Herba Mystica location, where the player must battle it again, teaming up with Arven . Dondozo does not have stat boosts from Tatsugiri's Commander Ability in either of these battles. Once Dondozo is defeated, Titan Tatsugiri will reappear and battle; the player's party will be healed and their Tera Orb restored before this battle.

Because Dondozo is not the true Titan Pokémon, only Former Titan Tatsugiri can be re-battled and caught. Former Titan Tatsugiri always has a Quiet nature.

Carmine will join the player to help fight the Titanic Loyal Three , which grew in size after being fed Kitakami Mochi by the villagers at Kitakami Hall . Her team stays the same between all three battles, only changing based on whether or not the player has completed The Way Home . These Titanic Pokémon have four times their standard amount of health.

The Titanic Okidogi

power trip pokemon scarlet

Okidogi guards the Cornerstone Mask , and can be found at Paradise Barrens . At the beginning of battle, it will receive a two-stage boost to its Defense. The first time the player's Pokémon ends a turn below half health, Ogerpon will cheer and provide both teammates with a one-stage boost to Attack.

The Titanic Munkidori

power trip pokemon scarlet

Munkidori guards the Wellspring Mask , and can be found next to Wisteria Pond . At the beginning of battle, it will receive a two-stage boost to its Special Defense. The first time the player's Pokémon ends a turn below half health, Ogerpon will cheer and provide both teammates with a one-stage boost to Special Attack.

The Titanic Fezandipiti

power trip pokemon scarlet

Fezandipiti guards the Hearthflame Mask , and can be found on the east side of Oni Mountain . Upon being spotted, it will retreat into a nearby cave, and the player must follow it down through the cave to its other exit, overlooking Fellhorn Gorge where the battle will take place. At the beginning of battle, it will receive a two-stage boost to its Speed. The first time the player's Pokémon ends a turn below half health, Ogerpon will cheer and provide both teammates with a one-stage boost to Speed.

In the anime

All of the Titan Pokémon found in Pokémon Scarlet briefly appeared as silhouettes in the music video for Biri-Biri .

  • The Japanese term for Titan Pokémon (Japanese: ヌシポケモン Leader Pokémon ) is fully written in katakana, distinguishing it from Totem Pokémon (Japanese: ぬしポケモン Leader Pokémon ), but the two terms are otherwise identical, being pronounced the same and having the same meaning.
  • In addition, in their second phase, the Titan Pokemon give off a very similar aura to that of Totem Pokémon.
  • Every Titan Pokémon is a Pokémon introduced in Generation IX with a single-stage evolutionary line.
  • They are also the only Titan Pokémon to be of unknown gender .
  • The Stony Cliff Titan is the only Titan Pokémon whose type is not also the type specialty of a Paldea Elite Four member. However, Geeta does use a Glimmora with a Rock Tera Type as her final Pokémon.
  • All of the Titan Pokémon ( Klawf , the Stony Cliff Titan; Bombirdier , the Open Sky Titan; Orthworm , the Steel Lurking Titan; Great Tusk S / Iron Treads V , the Quaking Earth Titan; Dondozo , the False Dragon Titan; and Tatsugiri , the False Dragon Titan) and Titanic Pokémon (Titanic Okidogi , Titanic Munkidori , and Titanic Fezandipiti ) are some of the few Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that possess special boss-like Health Bar above it during the battle.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: Which Starter Pokemon Should You Choose?

Every pokemon type, ranked from worst to best, pokémon: 10 awesome things you didn't know about charizard.

Starter Pokemon are some of the most beloved Pokemon in the entire Pokemon franchise, and it's easy to see why since they have a whole lot of love and character infused into their designs. As the first partner Pokemon that Trainers get their hands on, they have a big role to fill as the stalwart companions over a long and arduous journey to become the very best.

But not every starter Pokemon is as useful as the others. There's often one choice in every new Pokemon generation that's just not as good as its companions, whether that's in terms of its popularity or its utility in battle.

The 13 Most Popular Starter Pokemon

Every generation of Pokémon tries something different with its starters. Between stats and design, some are more popular than others.

Updated May 31, 2024, by Ewan Selmes: The Pokemon franchise continues to grow and innovate, updating older Pokemon with new moves, tweaks to learnsets, and even brand-new Abilities for fan-favorite Pokemon. Each new entry to the series, along with the franchise's new approach of releasing DLC and updates, gives players more opportunities to use their favorite Pokemon. Of course, these changes benefit some Pokemon more than others. Here's an updated list of the worst starter Pokemon in each generation.

10 Quaxly, Quaxwell, Quaquaval

Pokemon scarlet and violet: generation 9, pokemon scarlet and violet.

  • Paldea Region

Introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet as the Paldea region's Water-type starter Pokemon, Quaxly is a cute little duck. Unfortunately for Quaxly, its final evolution, Quaquaval, suffers from middling stats, with the sole exception of its powerful Attack stat.

Before Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players can begin their adventure through Paldea, they'll first need to choose one of Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

Many Pokemon fans took issue with its funky design choices, but it has its own legions of fans too. Still, it simply isn't as useful as Skeledirge or Meowscarada. The other two starters' final evolutions push the Water-type into last place thanks to their much better signature moves and winning design themes.

9 Cyndaquil, Quilava, Hisuian Typhlosion

Pokemon legends arceus: generation 8, pokemon legends arceus.

  • Hisui Region

Cyndaquil has been a popular starter Pokemon since its introduction in Pokemon Gold and Silver , having legions of dedicated fans. It's a great Pokemon. But in Pokemon Legends: Arceus , it's just not as useful as its competitors, Rowlet and Oshawott.

Rowlet is great throughout the game, while Oshawott offers a strong starting position with super-effective moves against Noble Pokemon Kleavor. In contrast, Cyndaquil doesn't offer quite as many advantages, being a solid performer but without the early efficacy of Oshawott, and the later game flexibility of Hisuian Decidueye.

But its fantastic new design and the addition of the Ghost type has meant that Hisuian Typhlosion has many fans of its own. And thanks to the large roster of Pokemon available in Pokemon Legends: Arceus , it's easy to build an effective team no matter the choice of starter Pokemon. What's more, H-Typhlosion's Signature Attack, Infernal Parade, is a real scorcher.

8 Sobble, Drizzile, Inteleon

Pokemon sword and shield: generation 8, pokemon sword and shield.

  • Galar Region

A great Pokemon in its own right, Sobble is nevertheless the worst of the starter Pokemon in its trio. Introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield , Sobble has a cute design, and in its final evolution, Inteleon, is a powerful Special Attacker. Sobble is a bit of a glass cannon, and it's nowhere near as effective as Cinderace with the Libero Hidden Ability . Make no mistake, Sobble and its evolutions are fantastic Pokemon and do well in any playthrough. They just aren't quite as good as the competition.

When little Sobble evolves into Inteleon, it can use the powerful Snipe Shot move. With the Gigantamax Factor, it can become Gigantamax Inteleon, which has an awesome and exclusive G-Max Move, G-Max Hydrosnipe . This is a great move, but it's still not quite as good as what Cinderace or Rillaboom get, putting poor Sobble in last place for its generation.

7 Rowlet, Dartrix, Decidueye

Pokemon sun and moon: generation 7, pokémon sun.

  • Alola Region

Pokemon Sun and Moon introduced players to the tropical island paradise of Alola, and with it came three new starter Pokemon. All three options were great, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but the worst choice in this generation is Rowlet. Rowlet is a cute little bird, and its final evolution, Decidueye, is great in battle and has a fantastic design. While Rowlet is great to start with, its weaknesses become more apparent as the game goes on. On the other hand, its competitors become more useful.

Although a fantastic Pokemon in its own right, neither it nor its evolutions can compete with the competitive efficacy or the in-game utility of Litten or Popplio. Incineroar, Litten's final evolution, is a real beast of the competitive scene, especially with its Intimidate Hidden Abilit. Meanwhile, Popplio and Primarina are beloved by fans and have nice utility in the game.

6 Chespin, Quilladin, Chesnaught

Pokemon x and y: generation 6.

  • Kalos Region

The Grass-type starter Pokemon for Pokemon X and Y , Chespin has an adorable design. Evolving into the powerful and bulky Chesnaught, it gains the Fighting type too. But Chespin and Chesnaught don't really stand out at all in what was admittedly a tight competition. Super cute Fire-type starter Fennekin, and Water-type starter Froakie, are both much more popular and more useful options.

Froakie's final evolution, Greninja, was so popular it even got a special form in the game based on Ash Ketchum's Greninja from the Pokemon anime. Such heavy competition puts Chespin squarely in last place for Kalos, despite its decent stats, nice movepool, and great theming.

5 Snivy, Servine, Serperior

Pokemon black and white: generation 5, pokémon black.

  • Unova Region

The Grass-type starter Pokemon from Pokemon Black and White , Snivy is a starter Pokemon with attitude. As a pure Grass-type Pokemon, Snivy is at a major disadvantage throughout the game. Its companions, Tepig and Oshawott, are just a bit more useful. Snivy's Hidden Ability, Contrary, can make it somewhat useful competitively. But its lack of utility in its debut generation makes it the worst choice of starter Pokemon.

Its final evolution, Serperior, has a great design theme. However, its Grass type leaves it with a weakness to many Gym Leaders, including late-game Gym Leader Brycen, an Ice-type master. Unfortunately for Snivy, Oshawott and Tepig fare better during normal gameplay.

4 Turtwig, Grotle, Torterra

Pokemon diamond and pearl: generation 4, pokémon diamond.

  • Sinnoh Region

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl's Grass-type starter Pokemon Turtwig has a great design that's full of character. It evolves into the brilliant Grass/Ground dual-type,Torterra. Unfortunately, Turtwig has stiff competition. The Fire-type starter of its generation, Chimchar, is one of the only viable Fire types in the Sinnoh region , making it an easy choice for many players.

Every Pokemon type has its fair share of strengths and weaknesses. This is how they all compare to one another.

Even worse for Turtwig, Piplup's final evolution, Empoleon, has a great dual type with the defensive Steel type, whereas Torterra has a lot of weaknesses. Turtwig slides further back thanks to Empoleon's fantastic Hidden Ability Competitive, which boosts Sp. Atk. whenever its stats are lowered. Despite its stellar design theme, Torterra languishes in last place.

3 Torchic, Combusken, Blaziken

Pokemon ruby and sapphire: generation iii, pokemon ruby.

  • Hoenn Region

Generation 3's Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire featured a host of strong and powerful Pokemon for players to catch and use in battle, and the starter trio was no exception. Fire-type starter Pokemon Torchic evolves into the powerful and super cool Blaziken, the first Fire/Fighting type starter Pokemon featured in the franchise.

Unfortunately, Torchic simply isn't as useful as its two companions. Grass-type Treecko has great utility against the region's many Water-type Pokemon as well as against Gym Leaders, and Swampert is a great choice all around. Blaziken fared better on the competitive scene, especially in more recent generations with its Hidden Ability Speed Boost. But during its debut generation, Torchic made for a difficult adventure through Hoenn.

2 Chikorita, Bayleef, Meganium

Pokemon gold and silver: generation 2.

  • Johto Region

Although Chikorita's final evolution, Meganium, is one of the strongest Pokemon in Pokemon Gold and Silver , it also takes the position as the worst starter in its generation. Chikorita, Bayleef, and Meganium all suffer from the Grass-type's relative weakness in Johto.

Chikorita and its evolutions have less-than-favorable matchups for most of Johto's Gyms, being most useful in the post-game Kanto portion of Gold and Silver . Chikorita and its evolutions have shallow movepools without many options for coverage, and in Generation 2's Johto and Kanto, that's a big problem. Totodile and Cyndaquil simply offer more utility and are stronger during the usual course of gameplay.

1 Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard

Pokemon red and blue: generation 1, pokemon firered.

  • Kanto Region

Cute, charming, and beloved by legions of adoring fans, Charmander is also the worst starter of its Generation. Grass-type Bulbasaur and Water-type Squirtle were both much more useful choices in Pokemon Red and Blue. Bulbasaur in particular is a great choice for many of the region's Gyms, including the first two. Charmander, by contrast, is a poor choice until mid-game, being useful only for the Grass-type Pokemon Gym.

Charizard has great stats and a nice movepool, and is one of the best Fire type Pokemon available in Pokemon Red and Blue. It's just not as useful over the course of the game as Bulbasaur or Squirtle. Still, Charizard is one of the most popular Pokemon of all time and has had many, many appearances in the anime, spin-off games, and main series. it's even gotten two exclusive Mega Evolutions.

Charizard is one of the most popular Pokémon out there, but there's plenty about it that goes under the radar.

Pokmon Gold & Silver: 8 Strongest Johto Gym Leaders, Ranked

  • Johto Gym Leaders varied in difficulty, with Chuck having a manageable Fighting-type team and Poliwrath as the real challenge.
  • Morty's use of Ghost-types posed a unique challenge, but a player with Psychic-types like Kadabra could have an advantage.
  • Bugsy's Bug-type team, especially Scyther, required players to strategize and use type advantages for victory.

When Pokémon Gold & Silver first came out, there was a lot of hype to see how the game would improve upon the formula of its predecessors. One way it accomplished this was by having harder Gym Leaders to defeat. While not all the Gym Leaders in the Johto Region were especially difficult, their team builds forced players to think more strategically about how they would overcome their opponents.

Much like their Kanto predecessors though, the Gym Leaders of Johto are difficult to categorize into a ranking system of least to most difficult. Over the years though, careful examination has made it clear that, at the time, some leaders were tougher than others, regardless of their place in the leveling order. So, here are Johto's toughest Gym Leaders ranked.

Chuck Can Power Through Anything

  • Chuck uses Fighting-type Pokmon.
  • He only uses two Pokmon, but Poliwrath has a diverse moveset.

In the earliest generations of Pokémon , Fighting-types were not quite as versatile as they are now. As a result, this makes the battle against Chuck much easier than it would be today. In addition, he doesn't have very many Pokémon to use, only having a Primeape and Poliwrath.

The Primeape is easy enough to handle so long as the player has either a Flying or Psychic-type Pokémon. It also only possesses one Fighting-type move. The real challenge is Poliwrath — while it possesses a single Fighting-type move, it is also a Water-type Pokémon, giving it access to the move Surf, and Poliwrath's unique moveset gives it access to Hypnosis, meaning it can send a player's team to sleep before they can get an attack off.

Morty Has the Only Ghost-Types in the Game

  • Morty uses Ghost-type Pokmon.
  • A player's best chance is to defeat them using Psychic-type Pokmon.

The Indigo League From Pokmon Red & Blue, Explained

The Indigo League is the Kanto region's official Pokmon league and has been represented by more generations than any other league in the franchise.

Morty is the first Gym Leader to use Ghost-type Pokémon, making him an especially unique challenge. At the stage of the franchise's development , there was only one real line of Ghost Pokémon, Ghastly, Haunter, and Gengar. Morty uses all of them and one additional Haunter in his team. While this sounds daunting, they actually possess the same weakness as Chuck's team.

This lineage of Pokémon is vulnerable to Psychic-types because they are also Poison-type Pokémon. So, if a player possesses a Kadabra at this point, then its superior speed usually means they can cut through Morty's team pretty efficiently. That being said, Ghost-types were made to counter Psychic-types, so it really comes down to who is fastest here.

Falkner Has Counters for the Starter Pokmon

  • Falkner uses Flying-type Pokmon.
  • They have means of countering two out of the three starter Pokmon.

Falkner is the first Gym Leader in Johto, specializing in Flying-type Pokémon. Though he may only possess two Pokémon, Pidgey and Pidgeotto, this does not mean that Falkner's team is a pushover. In fact, at this early in the game, his team has ways to counteract two of the three starter Pokémon that players begin the game with.

Both Pidgey and Pidgeotto know the move Mud-Slap, meaning Cyndaquil, a Fire-type Pokémon, would be at a severe disadvantage if it gets hit with this move. Likewise, Chikarita is vulnerable to Pidgeotto's Flying-type move Gust. The best strategies for this particular gym are to either build up a big team and slowly wear Falkner down, or have a type advantage, such as by capturing a Geodude. Though considering that Geodude is also vulnerable to Ground-type moves, and will be outpaced by both of Falkner's Pokémon, this is a gamble.

Bugsy Specializes in Defense and Offense

  • Bugsy uses Bug-type Pokmon.
  • He specializes in defensive and offensive styles, forcing players to switch up their strategy.

Bugsy uses exactly what one would imagine his name implies: Bug-type Pokémon. While his first two Pokémon don't warrant too much concern, being a Metapod and a Kakuna respectively, it is his final Pokémon that is the true challenge. After getting past Bugsy's more defensive Pokémon, players are challenged with a Scyther, a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon that possesses a high attack stat.

Depending on what team the player brings to the battle, they can either power through or try to play with type advantages for victory. If they chose Cyndaquil as their starter, then bringing a Fire-type against these Bug Pokémon would give them a clear advantage, but Scyther does possess the move Quick Attack, which could do some serious damage over time. The other option is to bring in a Rock-type Pokémon such as Geodude.

Pryce Counteracts Normal Type Advantages

  • Pryce uses Ice-type Pokmon.
  • They have other types that help counter the weaknesses of Ice-types.

Pokmon and KFC Cook Up a Delicious Partnership With Exclusive Meal Toy Release

The Pokmon Company is partnering up with KFC for an exclusive batch of Pokmon toys featuring Pikachu, Gengar, Mimikyu and more.

Though he is the seventh Gym Leader, Pryce isn't the most overpowered of bosses in the game. An Ice-type user, Pryce's Pokémon are not just a single type, adding an element of strategy to the game. Players who choose Cyndaquil as their starter have a better chance of defeating Pryce, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will win outright.

The real problem with Pryce is that his Pokémon's types can counteract the advantage of a Fire-type. For example, his first two Pokémon are Seel and Dewgong, which are Water/Ice types. While neither possess Water-type moves, they do have a defense against Fire-types, only taking damage normally as a result of the combination. The next Pokémon is Piloswine an Ice/Ground type. While this one is vulnerable to Fire, it is a bulkier Pokémon and will take a few hits before it goes down.

  • Jasmine uses Steel-type Pokmon.
  • A player's best chance of defeating her is to use Fire, Fighting, or Ground-type Pokmon.

Johto had the advantage of introducing new Pokémon types to the game. In this case, it is the Steel-type Pokémon that were revealed to players, and at the time was the king of the types. Steel was initially introduced as a counter to Dragon-type Pokémon, but while it is tough, it does possess some weaknesses that can be exploited, which are the key to defeating Jasmine, Johto's steel Gym Leader.

Jasmine brings two Magnemites and a Steelix into battle with her. Her team presents an interesting challenge, no matter which starter the player selects at the beginning of the game. That being said, a player's best chance is to bring in either a Fire, Fighting or Ground-type Pokémon to battle Jasmine. That being said, Steelix does know the move Rock Throw, adding an element of risk to a Fire-type if they don't take Steelix down quickly enough.

Whitney's Pokmon Can Mess With a Player's Team

  • Whitney uses Normal-type Pokmon.
  • Clefairy can use Metronome and Encore to become an unpredictable nightmare.
  • Miltank can take a lot of hits and heal itself.

Pokmon TCG:Scarlet & VioletTwilight MasqueradeExpansion Debuts a Legend

The Pokmon Company releases a new expansion forScarlet & VioletTwilight Masquerade which includes the debut of a legendary Pokmon.

Whitney is Johto's Normal-type-using Gym Leader, and arguably one of the most difficult to defeat due to a combination of type matchups and unique moves that make her unpredictable and can lock a player into an inescapable pattern. This first challenge is presented in the form of her Clefairy, which possesses the moves Encore and Metronome. Encore will lock a Pokémon into repeating the same move for three turns, potentially disrupting any strategy they might have had. Metronome then allows Clefairy to use any random move the attack lands on, potentially dealing massive or no damage.

The real challenge though, is her final Pokémon, Miltank. A bulky Pokémon by nature, Miltank can heal itself with the move Milk Drink, potentially invalidating a player's efforts. One's best hope against this team is to bring a Fighting-type to the fray, using that type advantage to swiftly bring down both Pokémon.

Clair Wields an Army of Dragons

  • Clair uses Dragon-type Pokmon.
  • They have a variety of moves and only two known types weaknesses, which are hard to find.

Perhaps the most difficult boss is also the final Gym Leader before the Elite Four . Clair is Johto's Dragon-type-using Gym Leader, and as a result, she is difficult to defeat, as the types that would normally counteract dragons, Ice and Dragon, are not easily found in the wilds of Johto. As a result, her team is incredibly tough to take down with conventional means.

Adding to the difficulty of this battle is that her team, composed of three Dragonairs and one Kingdra, have a varied set of moves that make them especially potent. The Dragonairs alone possess the moves Thunderbolt, Surf, and Dragon's Breath, giving them a good answer for just about anything that comes their way. Then there is Kingdra to deal with, who is a power Water/Dragon Pokémon with access to the moves Surf and Hyperbeam. If players aren't careful, they could find themselves overwhelmed before even reaching the final Pokémon.

Expanding across a multitude of media, including TCGs, video games, manga, live-action movies and anime, the Pokmon franchise is set in a shared world of humans and creatures with a wide variety of special abilities.
