30+ years experience

State of the art boats, safe & comfortable, stunning coastline, boat trip features, sealife spotting.

This longer trip covers a wide area, giving us more chance to see wildlife such as dolphins, porpoises, and whales.

Bird watching

Bring your binoculars! There will be plenty of chance to spot a number of exciting bird species.

Sites of interest

See the legendary Tintagel Castle, or the stunning Trevose Head lighthouse from the water.

Safety Onboard

Our state of the art RIBs are custom-built for comfort and safety, with a highly experienced skipper at the helm.

What to expect

Travelling further along the coast and further offshore than our 2 hour boat tours; depending on the conditions on the day, we may visit places of interest like Tintagel, Boscastle, or perhaps further west, venturing down the coast as well as searching offshore for wildlife – the sea is our playground!

What we're looking for

We will be keeping our eyes peeled along the way for any wildlife we may encounter, such as seals, dolphins, porpoises, whales and birdlife. During mid-April to mid-July, puffins, guillemots and razorbills can be found nesting in this area, a real birdwatcher’s delight! With the extra time available to us, we can really take our time to enjoy any wildlife encounters we have, as long as the wildlife are happy with our company. Keeping to “WiSe” safe wildlife watching guidelines, we always allow our interactions to be on the wildlife’s terms.

Professionally guided

Our boat trips are professionally guided, offering you the chance to learn a little about the wildlife we see as well as local points of interest and our rich local heritage. Your knowledgeable guide will be happy to answer any questions you have about the wildlife. You will have ample opportunity to snap some great photos of exciting wildlife and the rugged coastline. Every boat trip is a non-stop mixture of sensitive wildlife observation and exploring the wild North Cornish waters.

Reviews of 3 Hour Explorers Safari Boat Trip

3 hour explorers safari boat trip faqs.

We take from ages 2 and up (babies are not permitted). Please be advised that our boats travel at speed and can be very bouncy which some young children enjoy but others are not so keen on. Individual children’s suitability is at your discretion.

Our trips still run on rainy days. Rain does not deter the marine life (they are wet anyway!) so we simply wrap up in waterproofs and go for it! Please dress extra warm on rainy days with lots of layers to avoid getting cold. If you would prefer not to go out on a rainy day, please keep an eye on the weather and you may cancel your booking yourself. As long as we receive at least 24 hours notice, we can issue you with a full refund.

If we cancel your trip due to rough sea conditions or minimum passenger numbers (5) not being met, we will contact you as soon as possible to offer to reschedule you to a later date. If this is not possible, we can issue you with a full refund. Please note: If you cancel a booking yourself, we require at least 24 hours notice to be able to issue a refund.

Due to the bouncy nature of the boat and the unpredictability of sea conditions, our tours are not suitable for pregnant women.

All of our trips travel at speed and can be very bouncy in places so are not suitable for those with back/spine/bone problems.

Well behaved, small to medium sized dogs are permitted on our boats, however, often dogs do not like the sensation of being on a bouncy boat so please take this into consideration. If you can make other arrangements for your dog, it might be best to play it safe and leave them on land.

Brilliant two hour sea safari today, the wonderful weather and calm seas helped, but also felt totally relaxed as the rib raced across the water. Our guide clearly knew the local area and coastline, full of interesting information, and we did indeed see puffins, Dolphins, a seal, and even a bizarre sun fish! Highly recommended.

Alistair M - March 2023

Outstanding. So kind to my three year old who didn’t want to get on. Saw seals dolphins and puffins. Flexible to do one-hour trips when most only do two hours. Will be back.

Anna P - June 2023

Just a fantastic ride. Met by skipper Dave, quickly renamed captain Dave by our two girls. We all loved the speed, bumps, and waves, the dolphins (albeit very briefly) the seals and bird life. The trips into the coves and information and stories about the surrounding coastline were great. Just a fantastic way to see such a beautiful part of the world from a completely different vantage point. The whole trip was worth every single penny. Thankyou.

Guy W - June 2023

Absolutely amazing!! Andy was so informative and really made the experience! We didn’t expect to see too much as it’s all down to luck so having dolphins come right up to the boat was breath-taking! Would highly recommend.

Jade H - June 2023

Great trip! Felt very lucky to see both dolphins and puffins. Friendly, knowledgeable skipper.

Jill P - May 2023

We went out on a 2hr boat ride, which was an incredible experience that we would recommend for everyone. Beautiful, dramatic coastline and lots of interesting snippets of local history as we pulled up into stunning little coves and old ports on the way. We were lucky enough to see 3 seals sunbathing on rocks and bobbing in the sea, which was lovely. Also the ladies that were organising the tours, could not have been nicer and went above and beyond to ensure we all got to go out together. Highly recommend that you don't miss out on this incredible experience. 10 out of 10!

Martin S - March 2023

Oliver M - March 2023

Great trip, and value for money. Saw puffins and dolphins that played alongside the boat. Jake had a lot of knowledge about the area which all added to the experience. Would thoroughly recommend this adventure.

Patricia H - May 2023

A brilliant 90 mins. Saw lots of dolphins and the views of the coastline were spectacular. Very friendly person on the RIB. Thanks.

Paul C - March 2023

Our skipper for the trip was Andy, also a helmsman at the Port Isaac lifeboat station, who has a wealth of knowledge of the marine environment and local area. Andy took us out for a two hour trip where we saw a lot of bird life but sadly no dolphins (each of the other trips that day had been lucky). The trip was peppered with stops to hear stories of the land and people as well as the sea, which our kids (age range 3-6 ish) loved. One of your younger ones fell as sleep despite the chop. Loved it!

Robbie B - March 2023

Without a doubt a highlight of our holiday in Cornwall. My two boys, aged 11 and 17, loved it. The sea was choppy but this added to the trip and we felt safe with the expert and knowledgeable Andy, who did his best to find some wildlife for us. Who knew Sunfish visit U.K. waters? This is a must-do for any visit to the area.

Stephen O - March 2023

Brilliant brilliant brilliant. Three of us went and we all really enjoyed it. We saw dolphins close and upfront. They were weaving up to underneath the boat. I would say, if you don’t like fairground rides you probably shouldn’t go! But if you like exciting boat trips then this is just for you. Take warm clothes, even if it looks like it’s a sunshiny day.

More about cornwall's wildlife

Cornwall's Warm Climate and Diverse Marine Life is all due to the Gulf Stream. It brings warm water flowing from the South up through the Atlantic Ocean past Cornwall, which then mixes with cooler Northern waters. This means that Cornwall supports many species, both on land and sea, which are at the edge of their climatic ranges, making Cornwall's waters amongst some of the richest marine habitats in the world. The underwater topography (reefs and drop-offs) is extremely varied around the coastline. The tidal flow through the peaks and troughs of the sea bed, and sometimes stormy conditions, allow good up-welling and mixing of the water layers. This brings nutrients to the surface, which in turn supports a rich web of species and attracts an abundance of marine wildlife. Species spotted are increasing constantly as more people join our Sea Safari expeditions and as sea temperatures rise we are seeing an increasingly diverse range of marine wildlife on our boat trips.

Everything you need to know to plan your perfect Cornish getaway.

Spoilt for choice!

St Ives alone has five wonderful beaches, with both Porthminster and Porthmeor being awarded Blue Flags in 2022. Across the bay you will find three miles of golden sand stretching north from the Hayle Estuary. Then there's Porthtowan and Portreath just up the coast...

Sennen Cove right down near Land's End is another popular stretch both with surfers and families, whilst Mount's Bay provides endless walking and is often home to kite surfers.

There's also countless small secret coves, ideal for hiding away in, we would tell you where they are, but they wouldn't be secret then!

Yes... loads!

The mild climate caused by the Gulf steam means the south side of Cornwall has some fantatstic gardens to visit. Perhaps the best known are the Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey. Come in the spring and be blown away by the colours...

Down near Falmouth there's Trebah and Glendurgan, sitting side by side and running down valleys to the Helford Passage, there a must if your in that area.

Smaller gardens such as Pinetum Park and the Hidden Garden are on the outskirts of St Austell. as is the Eden Project, not technically a garden, more a environmental wonderland!

And if you're in the far east of Cornwall, a visit to Mt Edgcumbe Country Park should be on your list, and allow a day to do the place justice. The formal gardens are amazing, and then there's the deerpark and all the rest of the surrounding countryside.

Dogs are restricted on the designated beaches at the times listed below Cornwall Council enforces restrictions at the following beaches which are all part of a Public Spaces Protection Order. Other privately owned beaches may have their own local restrictions in force.

Please note: Blue Flag and Seaside Award beaches have longer restrictions due to the requirements of the Award status. In addition there are three protected wildlife areas that are subject to individual restrictions.

Often, and quite literally, bypassed, mid Cornwall is overlooked by visitors who are understandably seeking coastal charms. Next time, however, pull over, stop for a while and allow yourself to be pleasantly surprised by the pastoral beauty of this underrated area… There's still plenty of pretty villages, lots of heritage, tucked away attractions and Cornwall's only city, Truro.

The A30 runs down through the centre of Cornwall, leaving the M5 at Exeter. It enters Cornwall at Launceston, crosses Bodmin Moor and passes Bodmin. Once past there roads branch off to St Austell and Newquay and a little further on, Truro.

At the present time (June 2023) work is still on-going to dual a long stretch of the A30 heading west towards Redruth and Camborne. This will hopefully do away with summer traffic jams as you head towards the far west, St Ives and Penzance.

The A30 continues past Penzance all the way to Lands's End.

Leaving Exeter, the other major road into Cornwall is the A38. This crosses the Tamar Bridge at Plymouth and serves the towns and villages of south-east Cornwall before terminating at Bodmin where it joins the A30.

Coming down the North Coast, the A39 (also known as the Atlantic Highway) is good for access to Bude, Wadebridge and Padstow, and all the lovely north coast beaches. It continues onto Truro and eventually Falmouth.

The A390 is the main road serving St Austell, running from Tavistock in Devon, across the Tamar at Gunnislake and onto Liskeard. From St Austell it continues down to Truro.

Running north. and adjacent to the Devon/Cornwall border, the A388 runs from Saltash up to Launceston.

The A94 runs from Falmouth to Penzance via Helston where the A3083 runs down to Lizard Point.

“Cornwall is almost an island. This varied coastline supports an internationally important array of maritime wildlife. The warm waters of the Gulf Stream flow from the south and mix with the cooler northern waters, so that Cornwall supports many species on land and sea which are at the edge of their climatic ranges.”

Newquay Sea Safaris conduct regular research and marine studies via their links with the local Newquay Marine College, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, Cornwall Seal Group, British Divers Marine Life Rescue, CWT Marine Strandings, The Shark Trust and Shark Conservation Society. Atlantic Diver currently maintains and deploys C-Pods a device to record cetacean ( Dolphin, Whale, Harbour Porpoise, Orca) communication underwater and carries out lobster hatchery diver release.

Dolphins are regular visitors to Newquay Bay
