Sea Wolf (founded in 2003) is an American indie-folk band formed by Alex Brown Church with a rotating ensemble of musicians from Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Alex Church was raised in Columbia, U.S., travelled around with his music-loving peripatetic mother and attended film school at New York University. After which in 1998 he was a founding member of the indie rock outfit Irving. Many of the songs Church wrote at the time didn’t fit with Irving’s ’60’s psychedelia style or output, which led Church to begin performing songs under the moniker Sea Wolf (named after the 1904 Jack London novel). Church from 2003-2005 would invite friends and musicians to play with him locally, and made a number of home recordings in Seattle, U.S., in a similar ilk to Iron & Wine; having a lead sole singer/songwriter and drafting in others when need be.

In 2007 Sea Wolf signed to Dangerbird Records and in the same year released the EP “Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low” and the full-length debut “Leaves In The River”. On the back of the releases Church enlisted the help of Aaron Robinson on guitar, Lisa Fendelander on keyboard, Theodore Liscinski on bass, Aniela Perry on cello, and Byron Reynolds on drums to go on a small tour.

Sea Wolf’s second album titled “White Water, White Bloom” was released September 22, 2009 and recorded by producer Mike Mogis at his studio in Omaha, Nebraska, U.S. Sea Wolf contributed the song “Song of the Magpie” to Augusten Burroughs’ audio book “A Wolf at the Table” as well as a song titled “The Violet Hour” for the second Twilight film “New Moon” in 2009. The band’s third album named “Old World Romance” was released in 2012 and was followed by an extensive tour. After which Church returned to the studio and recorded an experimental minimalist album, not intended as a label-backed studio album later titled “Song Spells, No. 1: Cedarsmoke”, which was entirely funded through his Kickstarter campaign.

Sea Wolf, I've waited years to see you live, and goodness me did you perform! I have hyped up that moment in my mind time, and time again, and I'm delighted to say that every single expectation was reached and excelled. The delicately mature tone of Alex Church's voice is one that wins over the entire audience as soon as he begins to sing, and the intimacy of the venue allowed him to connect with everyone in the room, and a hush fell as they opened with Bavarian Porcelain. Every single musician in the band, from the newest to the oldest members were on absolute top form. They appeared to be playing in a trance like state, and worked together as a unit flawlessly.

Sea Wolf continually deliver flawless musical performances They played a range of instrumental pieces, alongside their more well known tracks from earlier albums, which was great because you know that they'd really considered their audience and what they'd be wanting to hear form them. They also did a fantastic encore, they left the stage and we thought that they weren't going to perform Song for the Dead, but they returned and gave us an incredible performance of it. What an incredible evening.

He and his Sea Wolf bandmates have performed at a plethora of venues across the U.S. and internationally, including Cloud Nine in the Netherlands. In addition to performing an infectious blend of indie-folk, Sea Wolf is also well versed in indie rock as well as alternative rock. 

The band’s career took flight in 2003. Members Church, Lisa Fendelander, Joey Ficken, Scott Leahy and Eliot Lorango have been going strong ever since. Church’s history as a performer began shortly after graduating from film school at New York University. Church earned his wings as a soul-searing songster performing in a group called Irving in the late ‘90s. Much of the material he wrote did not gel with Irving’s style. As a result, Church branched out on his own, forming Sea Wolf, a project which featured a revolving cast of musicians.  Sea Wolf signed with Dangerbird Records in 2007 and released a debut EP, aptly titled Get to the River Before It Runs Too Low, followed by a full-length album, Leaves in the River. The band’s album was a commercial success, landing at number 24 on the Heatseekers chart. Sea Wolf tickets offer the best in live entertainment.

How much are Sea Wolf tickets?

Generally speaking, Sea Wolf ticket prices cost more than $50 for most live performances. Tickets to see Sea Wolf play at music festivals like Lollapalooza can cost more than $100 for a standard general admission ticket. Premium seating at venues like the United Center can cost more than $275 a seat, while standard tickets for seats in the upper levels of the arena can cost less than $75 a ticket.

Sea Wolf concert ticket prices can range up to several hundred dollars per ticket depending on the venue and seat location. Floor seats and VIP are usually the most expensive depending on availability. And of course, the least expensive seats will be farthest from the stage.

Sea wolf adventures.

The Sea Wolf (aka USS OBSERVER) had her 97′ hull laid in 1941 as a US Navy Harbor minesweeper. In 1947 she was decommissioned after serving as protection for San Francisco Bay. In the 1950’s she was purchased by the Krieger Family and used as the family’s private yacht. Douglas Oil acquired her in the 60’s as part of the purchase of Krieger Oil. She was found tied to a dock in the early 1980’s by another Alaskan charter company and was refitted as a charter vessel that was pivotal in moving forward legislation to protect the Tongass National Forest. They decided to refit another minesweeper that accommodated twice the passengers and sell the Observer , aka the Sea Wolf.   We found her for sale in 2003 and fell in love with her classic lines and history. She has traveled from Alaska to the Galapagos and is the perfect vessel for exploring Alaska’s Inside Passage wilderness waters from Glacier Bay, Alaska to the San Juan Islands.  This week, Sea Wolf Adventures engineer Joe Rush takes us on a tour of the immaculate tool room on the Sea Wolf – it’s no wonder she purrs like a kitten!

A glance at the future, a look a the past, sea wolf to tour with phoenix, then the album leaf.

Sea Wolf has been riding the wave of “Twilight: New Moon,” the hugely successful teen vampire franchise, with their song, “The Violet Hour.” In a few weeks, Sea Wolf is packing up and shipping out again with a new single and a lot more touring.

With a mere one day reast, they’ll then switch gears and on February 3, the sextet will team up with The Album Leaf for a West Coast run. Sea Wolf’s folky orchestral pop narratives will serve as a great openiner for The Album Leaf’s dreamy low-fi bedroom pop.

Sea Wolf is touring in support of his newest release White Water, White Bloom. Sea Wolf’s second single, “O Maria!” will hit radio in late January and Alex Brown Church, aka Sea Wolf, will be guest hosting MTV2’s “Subterranean” in the coming months.
