Music concerts from the likes of artists Michael Jackson, U2, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Ed Sheeran and Robbie Williams have been held.

The ArenA was used for 5 matches during the Euro 2000 tournament including the Netherlands-Italy semi-final; it has also hosted the UEFA Champions League final of 1998 and the UEFA Europa League final of 2013 .

The stadium was recently refurbished and hosted 4 matches in June 2021 as part of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.

In 2018, the stadium was renamed Johan Cruijff ArenA in honour of the legendary Ajax and Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff (1947-2016). There is a bronze statue of Johan Cruijff near the main entrance, just outside of the Ajax store. It was designed by artist Hans Jouta and was unveiled in 2020.

The Club: AFC Ajax is the most famous and successful Dutch club having won the European Cup / UEFA Champions League 4 times and the Dutch Eredivisie 36 times. Their peak years came during the early 1970s.

Although Ajax had Eredivisie title wins in 2018-19, 2020-21 and 2021-22, it has lost some form of late and the 2023-24 campaign has been poor by past standards. Ajax has an average attendance of around 54,000 at the ArenA.

Watching Events: Try to see a game of the Netherlands Football team ( Nederlands-elftal ) if at all possible. The Dutch fans adorned in orange are one of the most colourful sights in world football. The Dutch national side has a rich footballing history including World Cup runners-up in 1974/1978/2010 and winning the 1988 European Championship with Ruud Gullit and Marco Van Basten.

Not all international home games are played in Amsterdam – the occasional game is also played at Rotterdam’s De Kuip and the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven – all are easily accessible via public transport.

Tickets are available online from the Dutch FA (KNVB) – the big games do sell out so buy your tickets well in advance. You could consider getting tickets for friendly matches – these are not so popular and are cheaper – priced from around €30.

Johan Cruijff ArenA

Amsterdam ArenA

One of Europe’s first large modern stadiums and still an icon in world football.

Club: AFC Ajax | Opening: 1996 | Capacity: 53,748 seats

History and description

The Johan Cruijff ArenA, previously called Amsterdam ArenA, was built between 1993 and 1996. It replaced Ajax’s previous home De Meer , which, with a capacity of 19,000 seats, had become too small for the club.

The Amsterdam ArenA officially opened on 14 August 1996 with a match between Ajax and AC Milan (0-3). The first goal in the new arena was scored by Dejan Savicevic. Total construction costs had amounted to €96 million.

The Amsterdam ArenA was the first football stadium in Europe with a retractable roof. It takes about 20 minutes to open or close the roof.

Shortly after the opening, it turned out that the stadium design had not accounted for good grass growing conditions, and as a result the pitch had to get renewed up to 5 times a year. These problems were later resolved with the installation of innovative grass growing technology, consisting of a combination of lamps, wind turbines, and water sprinklers.

The Johan Cruijff ArenA counts with a total of 2,229 business seats and a further 820 seats in sky boxes. The stands are among the steepest in Europe, with the second tier having an angle of 37 degrees.

In 1998, the stadium hosted the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Juventus (1-0), and in 2013 the Europa League final  between Chelsea and Benfica (2-1).

The Amsterdam ArenA was one of the playing venues of the Euro 2000 championships, hosting three group match, a quarter-final, and the semi-final between Holland and Italy (0-0).

The stadium has been chosen to be one of the playing venues of the Euro 2020 tournament, which is played across different countries. For this, the stadium got refurbished resulting in larger concourses and a new facade.

How to get to the Johan Cruijff ArenA

The Johan Cruijff ArenA is located in a modern office park in the south-east of Amsterdam, approximately 10 kilometres from the city centre.

The stadium is best reached by train or metro . Train station Bijlmer ArenA lies next to the stadium and can be reached in 15 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station. There is very regular service.

The metro takes only little longer and stops at the same station as well as station Strandvliet/ArenA that lies on the north side of the stadium. Take metro 54 from Amsterdam Central Station, or any of the stops in Amsterdam city centre. Metro 50 connects the stadium with southern and western parts of the city (e.g. Amsterdam Zuid station).

Address: ArenA Boulevard 1, 1101 AX Amsterdam

Eat, drink, and sleep near the Johan Cruijff ArenA

The Johan Cruijff ArenA is part of an entertainment and shopping complex, which includes a large cinema and two of Holland’s principal concert venues (the Ziggo Dome and Afas Live ). There are also a few places to get some (fast) food or have a drink, though options remain rather limited.

Recently, a few new hotels have opened near the Amsterdam ArenA, which include a Hampton by Hilton , the futuristically shaped Fletcher Hotel , and the Jaz Hotel . If arriving by car, the road-side and affordable Bastion Deluxe Hotel is a decent option, though you do need to catch a metro to get to the arena. Click here for an overview of hotels near the Amsterdam ArenA.

Of course, most will prefer to stay closer to Amsterdam’s lively city centre .

Ajax Tickets

Tickets for Ajax games can be bought online .

If tickets remain available, these can usually also be bought at the ticket windows of the Johan Cruijff ArenA on the day of the match, though recently Ajax have been selling out well in advance.

Expect to pay €25.00 for a seat behind the goal and between €30.00 and €50.00 for a seat at one of the sides for a regular match. Prices get increased for the games against Feyenoord and PSV.

Ajax occasionally require possession of an Ajax Club Card to buy match tickets, but most matches go on general sale. There is a separate ticket portal for foreigners to buy tickets.

Johan Cruijff ArenA Stadium Tours

The Johan Cruijff ArenA offers guided tours that include the press room, mixed zone, VIP areas, and dressing rooms. The tour lasts about 60 to 75 minutes and are in English and Dutch.

Tours run every half an hour on weekdays and every 20 minutes on the weekend. You can check the latest schedule here . On the weekend, it is also possible to follow a self-guided tour, which allows you to follow a route around the stadium at your own pace.

The tour costs €16.95. Bookings are not required, but can be made online .

The Arena has 2 very big acts to follow after the old Olympic Stadion in the city and the smaller Meer stadium were no longer used by Ajax. The Olympic Stadion in particular was part of the fabric of Amsterdam West and was so atmospheric on big European nights and matches v Feijenoord. Of course the Arena has all the modern facilities, but it has a certain sterility. It is a modern bowl with each side identical. The stadium was built as part of a new out of town development, part of a kind of ‘concrete jungle’. Being outside Amsterdam it feels somewhat cut off from the city. I believe they want to increase the capacity, but this will not improve the architectural character.

One of my favourite stadiums! It stands out as it is very colourful. The tiers are very steep but it is defenietely worth a visit. Amsterdam itself is very friendly city and i would recommend it to everybody.

There are hotels in the Amsterdam ArenA , e.g. the recently opened and remarkable Fletcher hotel.

Another note: if you find the Amsterdam Central station area already ‘seedy’ at night I’d suggest to stay away from Amsterdam at all. It sure is a messy area because of the many construction sites (new subway line, car and bicycle tunnels, renewal of the Central station, new bus station) but it is a very safe area and not only because it’s heavily patrolled by police and security teams.

Date visited: 29 October 2011

We joined the World of Ajax tour in October 2011. After having checked the Amsterdam Arena website for opening times, we arrived shortly before one of the given departures. As it was a Saturday afternoon there were already a lot of participants waiting and an estimated 50 people joined our tour, which was a lot.

The tour started at pitch-level with the possibility to have your photo taken by a professional photographer. No visit to the dugouts though. We then moved to the press room, where our guide held a fake press conference with some of the tour’s participants.

We subsequently went up the stadium to see the view from the second tier. All the time there was ample time to take photos, and at the second tier some opportunity to walk around the stands. The guide provided background information in Dutch and in English.

As the group was very large, probably too large, moving around the stadium took a lot of time, and one had to wait quite a lot. The guide was friendly, but spoke rather slowly, probably to facilitate the many non-native English speakers, but this added to a feeling of slight tedium.

Possibly the guide could have provided a bit more background information, or spiced things up with some interesting facts. The tour included relatively few parts of the stadium, less than in most tours, and it certainly would have been nice to see the dugouts, players’ tunnel, or VIP boxes. And to have the dressing rooms included in the standard tour.

The stadium is impressive enough to make it a decent experience, especially if your primary aim is to make photos, however the feeling remains that there is more potential than the current tour offers.

Construction on the stadium started in 1993 and was completed in 1996 at a total cost of € 140,- million. At the start of the 2018-2019 the name of stadium was changed from Amsterdam Arena  into the Johan Cruijff Arena, after Holland’s best soccer player Johan Cruijff who died in Barcelona on March 24, 2016. The Johan Cruijff Arena is located in the Bijlmermeer area located in the South Eastern part of Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena station is located right next to the stadium. This experience can easily be reached together with your Amsterdam Arena tour tickets.

Ajax Amsterdam History

Established on March 18, 1900 Ajax has been one of the top 3 traditional football clubs in The Netherlands (the other two being Feyenoord , Rotterdam and PSV , Eindhoven). Since the inception of the Eredivisie (Holland’s highest league) Ajax has been participating without interruption. Ajax is known nationally and internationally as a football club with Jewish roots and history. Several important players and club members were Jewish. Hardcore Ajax fans waving Israeli flags from the stands refer to these Jewish club roots.

Ajax Amsterdam Awards

Even though Ajax isn’t considered an absolute European top club these days they’ve won the European Cup/ Champions League an impressive 4 times. This puts them on 6th place compared to other, much larger, clubs; Real Madrid (13 wins), Milan (7 wins), Liverpool (6 wins), Bayern Munich (5 wins) and Barcelona (5 wins). Other international awards include 1 European Cup Winners’ Cup, 1 EAFA Cup and 2 UEFA Super Cups. On the National level they’ve won the league an impressive 34 times!

Best Football Player Of All Time

Johan Cruijff played a major role in the history of Ajax, Dutch- and international football in general. Cruijff is considered to be one of the best football players of all time and therefor he’s also one of the most famous football players on earth. In 1999 the IFFHS chose him as the best European football player of the 20th century. Cruijff was and is admired for his technique, acceleration, speed of action and insight into the game. He won the Europe Cup three times and also won best European player of the year three times. He also won the Europa Cup I three times together with Ajax. During this time at Ajax he was considered to be the leader and star of the team. As captain of the Dutch team he managed to get to the final of the 1974 World Championship where the Dutch team would loose out to West-Germany one to two.

Johan Cruijff  As Football Trainer

After a 20 year career in football Cruijff decided to have a go at coaching. Without any of the required diploma’s he became the coach of Ajax and won two KNVB Bekers and the Europacub II. After his stint at Ajax he returned to another former club of his; FC Barcelona. At this stage of his career he would create the team that would end up in the history books as the Dream Team. With Barcelona winning the Europacup I in 1992, Cruyff became the third football player in history who won the the tournament both as player and coach. After Barcelona Cruijff stopped his coaching career.

Johan Cruijff & Ajax Legacy

The legacy of Johan Cruijff lives on after his death in 2016. He changed football, there is broadly speaking football before Cruijff and after Cruijff. He together with coach  Rinus Michels , both from Ajax, introduced a whole new way of playing football to the world called “total football”. This way of playing was again on full display to the world as a young Ajax team dazzled the world in the 2019 -2020 Champions League. Creative, fast paced and pressing football made Ajax the star of that season and remains the playing style of the club. His name is now celebrated and remembered everyday in Johan Cruijff Arena. Get your Amsterdam arena tour tickets and see the home of Holland’s best and most innovative football club.

Taylor Swift fans livestream Eras Tour, making it possible for Swifities to watch show from home

Taylor Swift 's The Eras Tour has been taking Europe by storm and on Friday, June 21, she will be taking over Wembley Stadium in London .

The pop star will be doing three back-to-back shows at the stadium. While three dates gave fans in the UK plenty of chances to see her, some may not have had the opportunity to get tickets.

Some fans are taking the initiative to help Swifties who weren't lucky enough to get tickets watch the series through a livestream right from the comfort of home.

Swifties have taken it upon themselves to share their experience with other fans by livestreaming the shows on social media, often sacrificing their data and battery life. A fan also created an account on X, formerly Twitter, to share links to streams with fans.

The account is under the name @ErasTourLive where the account manager distributes links as the show starts, and on their website they also shared a message to Taylor's fans: "I created this account to share livestreams for those who want to watch a show."

"I will be trying my best and sometimes service at venues suck so please don't get upset if links don't work!" they shared on a website. "I will try to post links to accounts a day before or hours before. If you are going to a show and plan on livestreaming or know someone who is please dm me! This makes it easier for me to find live streams."

Streams of the concerts can often be found on Instagram or TikTok, and Swifties will be surely keeping their eyes peeled.

In the meantime, fans can also stream the singer’s three-and-a-half-hour concert film, The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version), in full HD 1080p on Disney+ for $9.99 a month. Buying a subscription also gives fans a month’s access to the streamer and can then be canceled at any time.

Taylor is taking a brief break after her stops in London and will pick back up in July, starting with three shows at Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks had to cancel her concert Saturday night (June 15) at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pennsylvania, because of “illness in the band,” according to a brief statement shared on the singer’s official social media accounts.

Trending on Billboard

The rock icon and vocalist for Fleetwood Mac , 76, was expected to take the stage Saturday night at the latest stop on her ongoing Live in Concert Tour across the U.S.

Stevie Nicks Soars Through a Night of Songs & Stories at Mohegan Sun: 5 Best Moments

Nicks’ performance was postponed just hours before showtime.

In posts on social media, fans reported the show was canceled around the time doors were set to open, when they were already in line to enter the concert grounds. A video posted by a concertgoer in the comments of the announcement indicated soundcheck happened Saturday afternoon.

As of Sunday (June 16), Nicks’ published schedule has her performing on June 18 in Grand Rapids and June 21 in Chicago. What follows is a short break in her itinerary until July 3, when she’s set to jet to Europe for a gig in Dublin, Ireland. U.K. dates come next (Glasgow, Manchester and London), then stops in Antwerp, Belgium, and Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Last weekend Billboard saw Nicks and her touring band put on a lively show at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, with a 15-song setlist spanning solo hits and classics from Fleetwood Mac’s discography, complemented with plenty of career anecdotes told between songs. “My stories are starting to become as long as the show,” the star joked during her June 9 performance.

If the beast must be fed, Kim Petras will happily oblige .

The “Coconuts” singer is readying the Friday release of her debut album, “Feed the Beast,” which will be supported by a 34-date world tour this fall.

Petras, 30, will kick off the outing Sept. 27 in Austin, Texas and hit North American cities including Miami, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Seattle before heading to Europe in early 2024.

Pre-sales begin Thursday, with the general on-sale at 10 a.m. local time Monday. Visit KimPetras.com for more information about tickets and VIP packages.

The German-born Petras, who made history earlier this year as the first transgender person to win a Grammy for best pop duo/group performance (“Unholy,” her smash collaboration with Sam Smith ), graced the front of Sports Illustrated in May as one of four cover models for the magazine’s annual swimsuit edition.

Petras' year has also earned her accolades from Variety (Innovator of the Year) and  Billboard’s Women in Music  (Chartbreaker). This spring, Petras released an appetizer for “Feed the Beast” with “Alone,” her duet with hip-hop star Nicki Minaj.

The track, one of 15 on Petras’ upcoming album, was a special accomplishment for the dance-pop singer, who told USA Toda y in April that working with Minaj was “a big dream … She’s so inspirational as a lyricist and she constantly pushes herself and always drops the freshest (music).”

Petras also shared that she’d been plotting details of her tour for months (“I know exactly what I want it to look like. I’ve sketched all of the outfits”) and that she’s pulled inspiration from Madonna’s 2006 Confessions tour, as well as live productions from Muse and German metal band Rammstein.

As part of the rollout for “Feed the Beast,” Petras will perform Friday on NBC’s “Today” show Citi Concert Series.

France vs. Netherlands prediction, odds, time: UEFA Euro 2024 picks, June 21 best bets by top soccer expert

Jon eimer has locked in his picks and best bets for friday's netherlands vs. france euro 2024 clash.

antoine-griezmann-france-getty-images.jpg

Heavyweights in Group D will collide when France and the Netherlands meet in a Euro 2024 group match on Friday at Leipzig Stadium in Leipzig. Prior to the start of the tournament, Les Bleus and the Oranje were overwhelming favorites to advance out of Group D and reach the knockout stage of the tournament. Both teams got their Euro 2024 campaigns off to a winning start with the French beating Austria, and the Dutch knocking off Poland. France and the Netherlands will square off on Friday with the lead in the group on the line.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET. Les Bleus are the +125 favorites (risk $100 to win $125) in the latest Netherlands vs. France odds, with the Oranje the +240 underdogs. A draw is priced at +210. The over/under for total goals scored is 2.5. Before you lock in your France vs. Netherlands picks or Euro 2024 predictions, you must  see what proven SportsLine soccer expert Jon (Buckets) Eimer has to say .

Eimer is a high-volume bettor who has vast knowledge of leagues and players across the globe. Since joining SportsLine, he has covered the English Premier League, Serie A, the FA Cup and much more. In 2023 he was red-hot, going 248-234-12 for a profit of $2,593 for $100 bettors.

Now, Eimer has broken down Netherlands vs. France from every angle and identified his picks and Euro 2024 predictions. You can head to SportsLine now to see Eimer's picks . Here are the betting lines and trends for France vs. Netherlands:

  • Netherlands vs. France money line: France +125, Netherlands +240, Draw +210
  • Netherlands vs. France over/under: 2.5 goals
  • Netherlands vs. France spread: Netherlands +0.5 (-150), France -0.5 (+120)
  • NED: Memphis Depay leads the team with 45 international goals
  • FRA: Antoine Griezmann has scored 44 international goals
  • Netherlands vs. France:  See picks at SportsLine

Why you should back France

Les Bleus have dominated the head-to-head series against the Netherlands recently. The French have won seven of the teams' last eight meetings. That stretch includes home and away victories during Euro 2024 qualifying last year: a resounding 4-0 win in Paris and 2-1 victory in Amsterdam.

In addition, France have a plethora of world-class attackers. Even if Kylian Mbappe is unable to play on Friday with a broken nose, Les Bleus can still field a lineup with Antoine Griezmann (16 goals and six assists in La Liga last season), Marcus Thuram (13 goals and seven assists in Serie A) and Olivier Giroud (15 goals and eight assists in Serie A), among others.  See which team to pick here .

Why you should back Netherlands

The Oranje will face a French side that may be without arguably the best player in the world, Kylian Mbappe. The speedy and prolific winger suffered a broken nose in France's 1-0 victory over Austria, and his availability for Friday's match is in doubt. If he is unable to play, it would be a significant loss for Les Bleus. He has won six straight scoring titles in Ligue 1 and has scored 47 career goals for the French.

The Oranje have a plethora of world-class attackers. Memphis Depay, who has scored 45 goals in his international career, remains a quality threat despite battling injuries. Xavi Simons is a rising 21-year-old star who is coming off his best season. Cody Gakpo, Donyell Malen , Jeremie Frimpong , and Wout Weghorst also have the ability to give defenses headaches, and both Gakpo and Weghorst scored in the 2-1 win over Poland.  See which team to pick here .

How to make Netherlands vs. France picks

Eimer has broken down France vs. Netherlands from every possible angle. He is leaning Under 2.5 goals, and he has three other best bets, all of which would pay plus-money, and a full breakdown of this match.  He's sharing his Euro 2024 picks and analysis only at SportsLine .

So who wins   Netherlands vs. France on Friday, and where does all the betting value lie? Visit SportsLine now to see which wagers in France vs. Netherlands have all the value, all from the soccer expert who was red-hot in 2023 , and find out.
