WHAT OUR ESTEEMED CLIENTS SAY ABOUT US

It is always a pleasure working with you and your team. You guys understand the importance of selecting the sites and details including selecting the right Christian guides in order for the Bible to come alive.  You have trained your guides to know exactly how to work in tandem with pastors and allow the time to teach at sites. As far as pricing goes, we feel as though we got a 13 day trip for the price of a 10 day tour. For me the highlight was when you arrived in Jerusalem for our farewell dinner and shook my hand. That truly made me believe that you really knew what “customer service” meant and went the extra mile to make us feel special. We’re ready to book our next trip!  Next year in Israel!

Thank you so much for making our trip possible in spite of all of the challenges we faced.   I recall, when the war in Israel started it was three weeks before departure. All our folks thought we would lose all our money because no one would go to Israel with rockets flying.  Insurance companies would not  pay out anything because war is not covered.  Two weeks later you emailed us and changed the dates to three months out at no added cost. Wow! That was the workings of a true Christian!  You could have charged us more to go two months later. But you did not and that’s a God fearing Christian right there. Friendship Tours, your travel ministry,  has my business for as along as I can travel.

Friendship Tours has been my only travel provider for three decades. From the Bible lands to Europe and the Reformation sites, they have always given me excellent service at the right price. I have always felt safe and satisfied. Their on the ground support has always made you know that every need will be covered. They are an industry leader you can trust.

The journey ministry, 10-day "7 churches of revelation" tour in turkey, prepare to be inspired.

We’re glad you are considering this tour. Our hope is that it is an experience of a lifetime.

Turkey was home to layers of civilizations. Ruins and monuments adorn the landscape as richly as does the vivid blue of the Aegean Sea.

The tapestry of Turkish history and life is vivid, magnificent, and well worn, displaying religious, cultural, and political changes that have evolved over the centuries.

DATES: LED BY: LODGING: Izmir Pamukkale Istanbul PRICING: Land Only SINGLE SUPPLEMENT:

June 9 - 18, 2023 pastor ron moore kaya hotel colossae thermal hotel eresin taksim hotel $2,895 per person $595 per person.

Upon arrival into Izmir, (ancient Smyrna) our tour representative will meet the group and transfer us to the hotel.  Ancient Smyrna is one of the Seven Churches (Rev. 2:8-11).  We will have the opportunity to visit the ruins of the ancient Roman agora.  Dinner and overnight in Izmir.

Today’s touring begins in ancient Pergamum (Bergsma) – center of rule for the Roman Empire.  The church of Pergamum was praised for its forbearance (Rev. 2:12-17).  Sights include the Aesclepion, an ancient healing center, the acropolis with its pagan temples, Alter of Zeus (some call the throne of Satan) and the Temple of Trajan.  After lunch, we will continue to Thyatira, the smallest yet most favored of the Seven Churches of which John writes. In antiquity, it was a busy trading center that was famous as a “seller of purple.”  Dinner and overnight in Izmir.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Our morning touring takes us to Philadelphia (Alasehir) the church that “kept the Faith” (Rev. 3:7-13) and Sardis, the capital of the Lydian Kingdom, and the first city to use coins of gold and silver. John berated Sardis for “appearing alive but are dead” (Rev. 3:1-6).   Our visit in Sardis will take us to the amazing ruins of the Temple of Artemis, the picturesque gymnasium, and the synagogue with original intact mosaic tile artwork. Return to Izmir for dinner and overnight

Today we take a drive to Hierapolis, meaning “sacred city.”  This was an ancient center for pagen cults until the first century when it was transformed into a Christian center.  The Apostle Phillip lived and was martyred here. We will visit the vast, ancient necropolis (burial grounds) large amphitheater, St. Philip’s Church, and the famed Roman baths.  The calcite laden hot springs of Pamukkale that have formed white travertine falls are a beautiful secret of nature that we will enjoy today. After lunch, we will continue traveling to ancient Laodicea, a city known for its riches, development of medicines and where the church was known for being “lukewarm in belief”. (Rev. 3:14-22).  The hot springs of Pamukkale combined with the cold mountain springs of nearby Colossae possibly explain this lukewarm application. Laodicea is a large, excavated site where we will see a stadium and remnants of a sophisticated water system. We return to Pumakkale for dinner and overnight. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we travel to the magnificent, excavated site of ancient Ephesus.  Once a thriving port town, Ephesus was considered the most important Greek city and most important trading center in the Mediterranean and played a vital role in the spread of Christianity.   We will walk the marble road, see the remains of the Temple of Artemis, the famed Celsus Library, the Agora (marketplace) the city bath ruins and the Terrace Houses with colorful mosaics intact. After our full day of sightseeing, we return to Izmir for dinner and overnight.  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We take a short morning flight to Istanbul and begin our tour of this magnificent city. We will visit the Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora, a medieval Byzantine church preserved as the Chora Museum.  It is decorated with some of the oldest and finest surviving Byzantine mosaics and frescoes.   Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.

Today we begin with a visit to the famed Blue Mosque-whose 6 minarets dominate the skyline.  We take a short walk to visit Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofya) that for over 1000 years, has been the greatest church in Christendom and an architectural wonder built by the Byzantine Empire to impress the world. We end our day with a visit to Topkapi Palace Museum, the former residence of the Ottoman Sultans and a miniature self-contained city.  Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.

Special touring today includes a cruise on the Bosphorus – the narrow strait linking the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and separating Europe and Asia. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the bustling strait as we view the palaces, small villages, and the Golden Horn.  We will wander Taksim Square, the heart of modern Istanbul, walking the pedestrian street, enjoying the shops, restaurants, and vendors and enjoy shopping or browsing in the unique Grand Bazaar and the Spice Market. Dinner and overnight in Istanbul.

We check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport to our return flight back to the USA.

Gateway Church pastor Robert Morris resigns after sex abuse allegations surface

Southlake, texas, church retains law firm to investigate as founding pastor resigns, a spokesperson said in a news release..

Gateway Church pastor Robert Morris speaks during The Gathering on Wednesday, Sept. 21,...

Robert Morris , a founding pastor of Gateway Church who has been accused of sexually abusing a girl when she was between the ages of 12 to 16, has resigned, the Southlake church announced Tuesday.

The Oklahoma woman, now in her 50s, told The Dallas Morning News that Morris abused her on multiple occasions in the 1980s when he was working as a traveling evangelist. In the one-page news release, Lawrence Swicegood, a church spokesperson, said the church elders “did not have all the facts of the inappropriate relationship between Morris and the victim, including her age at the time and the length of the abuse.”

“The elders’ prior understanding was that Morris’s extramarital relationship, which he had discussed many times throughout his ministry, was with ‘a young lady’ and not abuse of a 12-year-old child,” Swicegood said in the release.

Morris has not been criminally charged. The 62-year-old has not responded to repeated messages from The News seeking comment since Saturday.

The alleged abuse first gained wide notice Friday on the religious watchdog blog Wartburg Watch . In a statement to The Christian Post, which published a story detailing the allegations Saturday, Morris said he was “involved in inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady.”

An internal memo sent to Gateway employees as the allegations came to light said Morris “has been open and forthright about a moral failure he had over 35 years ago.” He underwent a two-year “restoration process” that was “closely administered” by elders at Shady Grove Church in Grand Prairie, according to the one-page memo. That church later became Gateway’s Grand Prairie campus.

The memo continues that he returned to ministry with the “full blessing” of the Shady Grove elders and the woman’s father.

The woman, Cindy Clemishire, who said Morris was married with a child when their families met in 1981, denied that her father gave their blessing for Morris to return to ministry. The News does not typically name victims of sexual abuse, but Clemishire has allowed her name to be published.

In a lengthy statement Tuesday afternoon, Clemishire said she had “mixed feelings” about Morris’ resignation, though she had sought his exit from ministry for years. She said she first contacted Gateway leaders, including Morris, with the allegations in 2005 and again in 2007.

“Gateway had the information but intentionally decided to embrace the false narrative Robert Morris wanted them to believe,” Clemishire said in the two-page statement. Referencing her faith, she said, “Though we are called to forgive those who hurt us, please understand that forgiveness is about you and can take time. We should expect and demand consequences.”

The Gateway elders, Swicegood said in the release, are “heartbroken and appalled” by the allegations, saying, “we express our deep sympathy to the victim and her family.”

“For the sake of the victim, we are thankful this situation has been exposed. We know many have been affected by this, we understand that you are hurting, and we are very sorry,” the statement reads. “It is our prayer that, in time, healing for all those affected can occur.”

Morris is a prominent televangelist and has been politically active. In 2016, Morris was named as a member of an advisory board — called the Evangelical Executive Advisory Board — for then-Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The 25-member board was created to advise Trump on “issues important to Evangelicals and other people of faith in America,” according to a Trump campaign news release at the time.

Morris, in a Facebook post last fall, said he became a Christian when he was 19 years old, months before he met James Robison, a widely known televangelist in the Moral Majority movement of the 1980s. Robison asked Morris to travel with him to preach to students in junior high and high school, and the duo have remained close friends since then, Morris wrote in the post.

Robison is the president of LIFE Outreach International. In a statement to The News on Tuesday, the organization said Morris joined the James Robison Evangelistic Association in the late 80s as a morning supervisor for a call center. During his employment, Morris’ duties did not include public speaking, according to the statement.

Before the recent media coverage, Robison was “not aware of the specific details surrounding” Morris’ departure from Shady Grove Church, according to the statement.

John Huffman, the former mayor of Southlake, posted a statement Tuesday morning to X prior to Morris’ resignation that also condemned his alleged behavior. He said Morris should have spent time in jail and “ruined” a 12-year-old girl’s life.

“Some sins are so egregious and vile that they disqualify a person from holding an office of trust like a pastorship,” Huffman said in the statement.

State Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, said in a text message that legislators must improve laws to ensure justice for victims of child sexual abuse.

In February 2022, Morris nominated his son, James Morris, to the church’s elders to be his successor and the next senior pastor of Gateway Church. After a “rigorous, six-month interview process” that included interviews with elders and outside consultants, the younger Morris was selected that September to take over as senior pastor in spring 2025, according to the church’s website.

Gateway was founded by Morris in 2000 in Southlake and has expanded to nine campuses across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and offers services online. The church has about 100,000 attendees each weekend, according to its website.

The church’s board retained the law firm of Haynes & Boone to conduct an “independent, thorough and professional review” of the allegations to “ensure we have a complete understanding of the events” from 1982 and 1987, according to the statement.

In her statement, Clemishire said she was skeptical of the investigation. She echoed her attorney, Boz Tchividjian, who questioned why elders are seemingly limiting the investigation to a five-year period.

The Gateway statement does not say whether the investigation’s results will be made public. Swicegood, the church’s spokesperson, did not immediately return a phone call or an email seeking more information.

In a statement Tuesday, Jacob Bourne, a spokesperson for Haynes & Boone, confirmed the firm “has been engaged” to conduct an investigation but did not answer a question about its scope or a possible timeline.

Arts and entertainment reporter Kajsa Kedefors and breaking news reporter Matt Kyle contributed to this report.

After Conviction, Trump Presents Himself as a Martyr to the Christian Right

The former president portrayed himself as having “wounds all over” while suggesting that he was being targeted for his support of religious freedoms.

By Chris Cameron

Reporting from Washington

  • June 22, 2024

Former President Donald J. Trump addressed the evangelical Faith & Freedom Coalition in Washington on Saturday, presenting himself as a champion of religious freedom and a martyr for Americans of faith while denouncing what he described as a mass persecution of Christians.

Mr. Trump also portrayed himself as having “wounds all over,” alluding to his legal troubles while suggesting that he was being targeted for his political beliefs.

“In the end, they’re not after me, they’re after you,” Mr. Trump said. “I just happen to be, very proudly, standing in their way.”

He added to raucous applause, “We need Christian voters to turn out in the largest numbers ever to tell crooked Joe Biden ‘you’re fired!’”

Mr. Trump’s appeals to evangelicals come at a crucial phase in the presidential campaign. President Biden and Mr. Trump will face off in an unusually early debate on CNN on Thursday, as polls reflect a tightening of the race.

The appearance marked something of a triumphant return to the event for the former president as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Thirteen years ago, Mr. Trump was hardly the image of a social conservative warrior . Now, in his ninth appearance before the group, the former president threw his support behind many of the stances on cultural issues taken by conservative and religious leaders, and outlined his vision of what he can offer the Christian right in a second term as president.

He endorsed Louisiana’s new law mandating that the Ten Commandments be hung in every public classroom , wondering aloud how anyone could possibly oppose the inclusion of the religious text in schools and adding “the right to religion does not end at the door at a public school.”

He also vowed to “shut down the federal Department of Education” if elected, a promise that got a standing ovation from attendees, as members began chanting “vote, vote, vote.”

He again repeated his lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him and wove a narrative of the Biden administration persecuting Christians for their faith, while suggesting that his own legal troubles had made him a martyr on behalf of his supporters. He said that he would, if elected, “create a new federal task force on fighting anti-Christian bias nationwide”

Mr. Trump’s fiery and righteous rhetoric was fused with his efforts to placate some in the Christian right who say his policies on abortion do not go far enough. Allies of Mr. Trump have pleaded with the former president to back a national abortion ban , or to adopt plans to criminalize abortion pills through enforcing the Comstock Act.

On those issues, Mr. Trump did not give evangelical hard-liners what they were hoping for. Mr. Trump repeated his assurances that supporters of harsher restrictions should “go with your heart,” but, he added, “we have to get elected, we have to win.”

Michael Whatley, a close ally of Mr. Trump who leads the Republican National Committee, supported Mr. Trump’s stance against a national abortion ban after his own address to the evangelical group, which preceded Mr. Trump’s.

“We fought for over 50 years to end the tyranny of Roe v. Wade,” Mr. Whatley said to reporters after his own address to the Faith & Freedom Coalition, adding that “this is a discussion that needs to take place in each and every state.”

He continued, “We feel very good about the campaign and where we’re going to go on that issue.”

The Biden campaign released a statement that said little about Mr. Trump’s religious rhetoric, instead criticizing the speech as “a rambling, confused tirade” and highlighting a moment where Mr. Trump said he had suggested to his ally Dana White, chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship , to start a “Migrant League” to have migrants fight each other.

“Trump’s incoherent, unhinged tirade showed voters in his own words that he is a threat to our freedoms and is too dangerous to be let anywhere near the White House again,” Sarafina Chitika, a spokeswoman for the Biden campaign, said in the statement.

Donald Eason, the senior minister of the Metro Church of Christ in the suburbs of Detroit who attended the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s conference, said he supported leaving the issue of abortion to the states.

“Whatever powers were not given to the federal government are automatically part of state government. The Supreme Court should never have gotten involved in that in the first place,” Mr. Eason said, but left the door open to national restrictions, adding “Congress, obviously, could step in and make it a national ban.”

Mr. Eason also said he supported Louisiana’s law regarding the Ten Commandments in public classrooms, saying that the policy should be expanded to other states.
