What s the deal with this DEF, at $9.99 I am thinking about using it. Any feedback on it? I am going to spend most of the summer pulling a trailer up and down the east coast so trying to save some money where possible but not at the expense of going into limp mode due to funky DEF…  

You will have no problems with it as long as it has not been on the shelf too long.

I switched to the Traveller DEF about 1k miles ago, no issues. Picked it up from our local Tractor Supply. Prior to this I ran the Super tech brand from Walmart with no issues. The lines and crowds at Tractor Supply are much preferred, price is the same between the two.  

I have some DEF that is three years old. It is clear and the refractometer shows the proper concentration but have avoided using it. So are we saying that as long as it meets that criteria, it is good to use?  

I used $6.99 a box DEF from Rural King for years with no issues and use the same product in farm tractors.  

I think the Walmart DEF is a bit cheaper, and always clearly labels the date it was packaged. The last batch I bought was three weeks old. Never had a problem with it.  

You're doing it wrong

I always use the cheapest DEF when i had the system installed never an issue as far as cheap DEF concentration or contamination  

DEF = DEF, there’s nothing fancy to it.  

I recently used it, I use the practice of getting more when I’m at 1/4 tank and put one box to bring me roughly 3/4 tank. I got to just about 1/2 tank and got the dreaded DEF p202e light. I cleared it and have driven 300 miles without it returning so not sure what caused it. The box wasn’t old cause the guy was saying how their DEF flies off the shelf at 9.99. Hopefully there’s no issue  

I've always used tractor supply and walmart def no issues.  

Thanks for the feed back. I went ahead and picked up a jug, I didn’t realize it at first but it was the “premium“ version, it was $4.00 more. Next time I will try the $9.99 one.

I have been using the Walmart brand Def (super tech $8.88 ) for the past 6 years in my Duramax and my Cummins without issue. I prefer jug Def over bulk at truck stops, most I’ve seen have Crystal buildup that I don’t want contaminating my tank.

So if your DEF stored in a 35 degree shed has crystals at the bottom, that's just precipitated urea. That won't contaminate the tank if the tank is heated, which I think they are (I don't drive a Diesel). It'll then just go back into solution. Or store it in the house for a day to let it warm up, crystals should dissolve. Click to expand...

Traveller def fluid?

Brand New 2023 3L duramax owner here, been researching def fluids, and noticed Tractor Supply is selling "Traveller Def Fluid" for $10 -2.5 gallon. Is this stuff any good, and are there warranty considerations if used? Thanks  

As long as it meets the ISO spec number in the diesel supplement, you can use it. DEF does have an shelf life -- so if it's not sale because it's old.... If you are near a truckstop, you they will have pump def in the truck lanes. No messing with jugs, and you can get if full without having a part jug left over. Also makes it so you can calculate def mpg the same as hand calculating fuel mpg. DEF usage will be about 2% of fuel usage -- so about 2 gallons of DEF used for every 100 gallons of fuel.  

Ok, on a 2023 GMC, there will be no notifications that DEF fluid needed?  

Yes, there are warnings. They are described in the 3.0L diesel supplement. (you can download a pdf copy from GM's website if you prefer electronic to the paper copy that should have been provided) There will be a def low indicator on the dash. If on, it also gives a message. The is an 'level indicator' in the dic. (Imho, not accurate to be called a gauge) it's also shown in the manual. There will be 'range to empty' warnings. Around 1000 miles it should give one, and below 300 it should update at every start. When it gets to empty, there will be 'miles to speed limit' warnings.

What is diesel exhaust fluid?

What happens if you run out of DEF?

What happens if you put fuel or DEF in the wrong tank?

Diesel fuel in DEF tank: There are safeguards built into the system to prevent you from putting diesel fuel into the DEF tank. The diesel fuel nozzle is larger in diameter than the entry hole of the DEF tank, ensuring that you can’t accidentally fill the DEF tank with diesel fuel using the nozzle at a gas station. Also, the DEF tank often has a bright blue cap that will help you avoid placing diesel fuel in this tank. However, if you’re inadvertently put diesel fuel in the DEF tank, you need to have the system repaired immediately. Even a tiny amount of diesel fuel could significantly damage the system that uses DEF.

• DEF in diesel fuel tank: You don’t have any built-in safeguards against accidentally adding DEF to the diesel fuel tank other than using common sense. If you inadvertently place diesel exhaust fluid into your diesel fuel tank, your vehicle won’t operate. The entire fuel system will need to be professionally cleaned and repaired.

How DEF brands differ

It can be frustrating to pick the right DEF for your vehicle. All diesel exhaust fluid must have a urea concentration of 32.5%, so how different can the brands be?

Impurities: To meet EPA standards, DEF must contain a limited percentage of impurities such as iron, zinc, and aluminum. These impurities can enter the DEF if the manufacturer uses poor-quality deionized water, for example. Too many impurities in the DEF could cause the SCR system to fail prematurely. A cheaper brand of DEF might be at the edges of the impurity limits, while a more expensive DEF might have many fewer impurities than required by the EPA.

Urea: An approved brand of DEF must use pharmaceutical-grade urea rather than agricultural-grade urea, which might have impurities like biuret in higher levels than higher-quality urea.

Q. Why have I never heard of DEF or SCR? I’ve driven pickup trucks most of my life.

A. The use of diesel exhaust fluid in a selective catalytic reduction system has only occurred in the last several years. If you’ve always driven older trucks, you haven’t had to use DEF because your trucks don’t have an SCR system. This system began appearing on diesel vehicles with the 2010 model year.

A. If your vehicle uses diesel fuel and has an SCR system, you need DEF. Among vehicles commonly aimed at consumers, pickup trucks and some sport utility vehicles (SUV) run on diesel fuel, although large sedans occasionally use diesel, too. A vehicle with an SCR system has a special tank for the diesel exhaust fluid. This DEF tank, separate from the diesel fuel tank, is usually distinguished by a bright blue cap.

Q. How does the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system work?

A. The system uses chemical reactions between the diesel exhaust fluid and the vehicle’s exhaust to reduce harmful emissions. The SCR system uses an injection system to deliver the diesel exhaust fluid into the vehicle’s exhaust system. The DEF is then converted into ammonia by the SCR system. Once the ammonia is mixed with the NOx emissions, it breaks them down into safe emissions of nitrogen and oxygen.

DEF from Tractor Supply

Tractor Supply sells DEF $9 for 2.5 gallons . Has anyone used this DEF ? Good /Bad?

I agree DEF is DEF as long as it meets the standard. Tractor supply is one of those stores where you gotta know what the prices are on what your looking to buy at their competition. They have good prices on some things and try and rape you on others.  

That's $3.60 a gallon PLUS TAX. Bulk DEF is about a doller-a-gallon cheaper. If it's available, no shopping, hauling, pouring, storing and much cheaper.  

I have used their DEF on my first fill up, but have used the pump at Pilot station every time after that. Like the Capt said the pump is cheaper faster to pump and no mess or waste.  

Def fluid does have an expiration date & must meet the AUS 32 standard for our trucks.  

Diesel Exhaust Fluid doesn’t degrade nearly as quickly as people assume. For example, at 86°F, DEF has a shelf life of a year. REMEMBER: Do not equate shelf life to spoiling like food, as DEF will not go bad. IT will lose some effectiveness, and the SCR will dose at a higher rate, but it won’t “go bad.”  

Up here in the great white north it is not easy to find bulk DEF, we do have tractor supply however : )

I have a Tractor Supply about 4 miles from home. I didn't know they sold DEF. I paid $11 for 2.5 gallons at Sam's. Thanks for the tip. I won't need any for a while but will drop by there next time I need a jug. No bulk DEF within 60 miles of here.  

With any potential for some sort of a DEF related issue, I will just use Mopar DEF , oil filters until the warranty runs out. Don't want them trying to say I used some non- approved fluids etc.  

Are you only running MOPAR Diesel too?  

You can get your def at any truck dealership. air one or trp are good brands. KW,Pete, Star and the liner boys all use it, their are others. Shoudnt be hard to find.  

How much is Mopar DEF per gallon?

Just checked Tractor Supply's website. The store near me has it on sale for $8.00/2.5 gallon jug. It is TerraCair DEF. Ford Motor Company uses it for initial fill ups of the diesel vehicles they sell. It meets API specifications and is manufactured by CF Industries in the USA. Who makes Traveller oil (sold at Tractor Supply). I did some searching, but couldn't find a definite answer. I heard shell, which i doubted, and then I heard Old World Industries, who also make peak anti-freeze. Traveller Premium 15w40 is rated up to CI-4. I've also read that CI-4 is better for pre-'07 trucks than CJ-4. This being due to CJ-4 lacking additives that don't play well with new emissions equipment. I think it's priced the same as Shell Rotella T, which I currently use, but I'm just curious. Any thoughts?

As long as it meets CI-4 or CJ-4 it should be fie for using in your Cummins.

The "SL" classification indicates these engine oils can be used in gasoline engines. But remember: Always refer to the automobile's Owner's Manual for the preferred SAE grade.  

ive thought about using travelers but never have... a lot of people on here say the Valvoline is the best... idk i always figured oil was oil  

I use Valvoline blue conventional and it seems fine. I have used Rotella and Delo before and they presented no problems either. The oil distributor who came by my old job told me that Delo had the highest zinc content, but that was several years ago, and formulations can change. I think that any of the name brand oils are a fine bet. As for Travellers, I am currently running their UTF in my old Case backhoe, but i haven't had it all that long, so I cant comment on its overall longevity, and I have not tried their engine oil. We generally get supplied with Warren oils at work, and all I can tell you is that they work ok for fleet service, but I'm sure its the cheapest they can get, as vehicle service isn't the biggest concern for the higher ups.  

Lets face it fellas, these 5.9 engines are *tough*. To think they really care much about the oil in the crankcase is probably just bench-racing. Is it slippery? Is it clean? Okay, we're good. As long as it's diesel rated (so it captures the soot), I really don't care what brand/type/weight you put in it. Chances are, it'll run a half million miles or more without issues. And when it does have issues, it's not going to be because of an oiling issue (unless you run the crankcase dry - but that's your fault). I run expensive Mobil 1 5w-40 in mine. I'm a Mobil 1 guy, and I like to go 15,000-20,000 between oil changes. Mobil 1 does that just fine. But to really think that Delo, or Rotella, or Warren, or TSC oils is gonna make a difference - - well, I think the millions of these engines in fleet service where minimum attention and the cheapest possible would indicate they really don't care.  

What about the Super Tech walmart brand 15w-40? That stuff is cheap and so are the filters. Wouldn't be a bad thing to flush the engine out with a couple gallons.  

As far as I know it was PennzOil last time I checked and don't see any problem with that.  

These engine's are tuff the first Cummins I owned was a 95 12 v bought from a buddy of mine. I went to pick it up about three hours from my house and the guy said it was all good to go so I just hopped in and left. I drove ut home and atound town and stuff then I took it too a mechanic to have it looked out, the front cover was cracked and there was bo oil in the motor. Hey Guys, kind of new to this DEF topic as the last diesel I had was an 00 F-250 and never heard of DEF back then. I just purchased a 2017 F-250 lariat FX4 and am awaiting delivery but have been reading up on the forums to try and pick up information about the new truck. i) What does DEF do for this 6.7 engine, ii) how large of capacity is the tank on the truck, iii) how often does one need to refill this DEF tank. Yeah newbie questions. Thanks

Urine is also urea diluted with water, so if you're really looking for the cheapest option....  

I go with the cheapest. This crap is dumped in your exhaust not your engine so my care factor is low.

A guy I work with and this is from him.. His Duramax has a def related issue and was told if super tech def is used that they would void his warranty. I’m not going to try it out, it Peak Blue . Been debating on using Maverik as it is a bit better than buying jugs.

Catch Blue Def while on sale from one of those big box auto stores. Usually can get a buy 1 get the other 1/2 off and such which equates to like 11 bucks or less for 2.5 gallons. Blue Def (and probably others) has a shelf life of 2 years provided it is stored between 12*F and 90*F. Keep it out of sunlight. So if you run across a good deal, then you can stock up.

Peak BlueDEF: good or bad?

Was going to put Peak BlueDEF in my truck. Went to AutoZone website to check for pricing, etc. Noted 2 reviews. Looked at them, one guy said he had bought some Peak BlueDEF and put in his truck and immediately got "poor DEF quality" on his DIC. He ultimately had to take truck to dealership to have system purged and filled with OEM fluid, obviously AC-Delco fluid. Cost $300 to have system cleaned. He stated he did a search on the internet and found that there has been similar issues with Peak BlueDEF and "poor quality DEF." My question is has any of you fellow LML forum members had similar issues?  

Been using the peak bluedef since the day i left the dealership, 25k miles, no issues. I buy it at sams club, 2.5 gal for 10.88  

I have a sams club just down the street from me, may start getting DEF there.  

I've used Peak blue DEF three times now. no issues  

BlueDEF conforms to ISO 22241. You should be good to go. I know of several Powerstroke Ford trucks running BlueDEF without issue.

Just use the DEF from a truck stop. DEF bulk pumps are $2.69 a gal.

How much DEF do you guys go through, or I guess how many miles until you add more? I don't know anyone that uses def so I'm just curious.  

The guy who immediately got the "poor DEF quality" probably had the misfortune of buying a jug that had been sitting around a while and passed its shelf life.  

He stated he looked all over the box for an expiration date but could not find one.  

When I picked my truck up at dealer last week service gal came out and said "please, please, please, whatever you do, don't use the blue DEF fluid. Prefer you to use acdelco its only couple dollars more but don't use blue" she said it has too much water in it or something and they have had issues with people using it. Im just waiting for 100K miles so I can gut that tank and all  

Of course the dealer wants you to use their stuff. Lots of people have used BlueDEF with no problems. Id use the truck stops DEF pumps, & never had a problem. I used 2.5 gal of BlueDEF at times, & once I had a DIC "Poor DEF Quality" msg. But I cant say it was for sure the BlueDEF that caused the msg. I think it was just a coincidence.

As long as the fluids meets GMs requirements, its fine. They cant deny warranty work, as long as you used the required fluid(s) & it wasnt a user error.  

DEF bought in stores isn't "non conformant". Where did you get that idea? It all meets the same ISO standard.  

That's what the big truck dealers sell. I deliver pallets of it to the Freightliner dealer in my delivery area a couple times a month. I hate it because plastic bags in cardboard boxes don't ride well stacked on a pallet. I have seen it on the guy who delivers to the Kenworth dealer as well. If it was crap they would not sell it. Well it is all crap that you even need it. Thanks EPA assholes.  

28k and is all my truck has ever seen. Never had a poor quality message. 2.5 gal box every 5k unless I am pulling the camper.  

It's the only fluid I've ever seen other than truck stop bulk pumps. If it's bad, we are screwed. I get 2 years free maintenance but after that, I'll probably be using this stuff too.  

I work at a VW dealer and use the VW "adblue". Its only $7.70 dealer cost for 2.5 gallon and when we get them from VW the exp. date on them is never more than 1-2 months old.  

I know that I read another thread, apparently another forum member used the Peak BlueDEF with subsequent "poor DEF quality" and had to have his DEF system purged/cleaned and cost him ~ $300. I plan to use the AC Delco DEF, just in case any problems they can't blame the brand of DEF fluid.  

How often are you guys having to refill your def tanks? I've had my truck since September an put a little over 7k miles on it, and it hasnt pinged a code for adding fluid. Is that normal? or did the guy before me delete it, and just left the tank and all attached?  

I put 2.5 gallons in back in Dec, last ~ 2700 miles.  

you should get about 1000+/- miles per gallon of DEF. Depends on how you drive and or tow. When I tow a lot I probably get the 29% DEF remaining on the DIC after 3k miles. When I get the 29% remaining I add 2.5 gallons on Peak Blue or sometimes I find the Fleetgaurd (I think that's the name) in 2.5 gallon jugs. No issues yet and I just turned 30k miles on mine. Havent filled at a truck stop yet but I have no fear in doing so. It is supposed to be cheaper than buying a jug at the store.  

Dealership in Lodi, CA Sanborn Chevrolet specifically told me that anything rated to the same standards as GM's DEF is okay to use.  

I just put 2.5 gallons in of the Peak. My only complaint is the stupid flexible hose it comes with. Leaked like a sieve at the screw on portion. Scrapped that and used a big funnel to pour into as I don't want it leaking over all the engine bay. Followed up with a couple of gallons of fresh water to flush...

Traveller Whiskey was first released in January, 2024 and is an ongoing release. It’s a collaboration between Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley and Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and musician Chris Stapleton. Wheatley eloquently summarizes the collaboration: “When making art –  and we really do think that both Chris’ music and the whiskey we make at Buffalo Trace is art – you experiment, test, adjust, and don’t give up until you’ve got it right. That’s why we experimented with more than 50 blends before agreeing that Blend No. 40 would be it for Traveller." ‍ ‍ Traveller Whiskey is a blended whiskey, which by legal definition is “Whisky produced by blending not less than 20% on a proof gallon basis (excluding alcohol derived from added harmless coloring, flavoring or blending materials) straight whisky or a blend of straight whiskies and, separately or in combination, whisky of any type or neutral spirits.” However, Sazerac has confirmed that the current blend contains 0% grain neutral spirits. While the specific Sazerac-owned distilleries that the components within this blended whiskey originate from are not readily disclosed, Sazerac has confirmed it is a completely unique combination of whiskeys hand selected from multiple distilleries. It is also the first celebrity collaboration whiskey from Buffalo Trace, though Wheatley and Stapleton are each noted on the label as “Co-Founder” on the label. The whiskey is widely distributed and is expected to be readily available.

The whiskey is light on the nose. There’s some fruity warmth reminiscent of green apple or grape, along with a hint of sweetness. There isn’t any individual scent that stands out, but the overall composition is a bit unfamiliar, not falling into typical bourbon, rye, or even light whiskey territory. It’s very light, and while not off-putting in any way, it’s also not memorable and just simply lacks presence.

The palate breathes some life into the whiskey, most noticeably due to its light yet smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel, which is sure to find fans. Light oak, maple sugar candy, a touch of sweet corn, along with hints of caramel and buttercream, make for a dessert-like synergy of flavors. Sweet tooths will be put to the test, as the level of sweetness will be fun for some and over the top for others.

A bit of spice finally develops on the finish, with candied fruit sweetness transitioning quickly to savory leather. It drops off fairly quickly from there, leaving behind a mild spice note. Like the start, it’s a simple, short ending.

Traveller Whiskey may seem simple on the surface, but it’s anything but. It’s the first celebrity-collaboration whiskey Buffalo Trace has attached its name to, it’s a blended whiskey, and Wheatly and Stapleton are identified on the bottle as Co-Founders. First and foremost, the flavor profile is unfamiliar, arguably sweet to a fault, but will likely satisfy casual, mainstream whiskey drinkers. It’s mild enough for the masses to sip, while it is light it does offer a degree of creaminess that allows it to take a cube fairly well, and it even holds up well in a cocktail. While its flavor profile may be tuned more into the mainstream drinker than the enthusiast, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that this blended whiskey is unique in a number of ways. If Sazerac wanted to appeal to more diehard whiskey drinkers with this, they would have been more forthcoming about what makes up the blend. What makes up the blend is important with this release because unlike most “whiskeys” being released nowadays, it is technically classified as a "blended whiskey" which hearkens back to earlier times when blended whiskeys were often known to be sub-par products. We know Traveller Whiskey originates from multiple Sazerac distilleries which makes it unique by that measure, though we do not know exactly what those components are. And while the blended whiskey classification does allow for the inclusion of grain neutral spirits, Sazerac has confirmed with us that the blend contains 0% grain neutral spirits. With that in mind, it's a curious classification choice as no grain neutral spirits are actually used. Would it qualify to be classified as whiskey or a blend of straight whiskeys? Or does the blended whiskey classification used to allow the brand some wiggle room to change the blend components in the future? Traveller Whiskey’s label identifies Wheatley and Stapleton as Co-Founders, which is an interesting notation. Wheatley has certainly earned an immense amount of respect, being the distiller behind Buffalo Trace’s line of highly respected products which includes everything from Buffalo Trace Bourbon, to Blanton’s, to Weller, and to the coveted Pappy Van Winkle lineup. Stapleton’s involvement does pose some questions, as he has had a fairly dicey relationship with alcohol that has drawn media attention recently, most notably with respect to excessive drinking issues he has disclosed. In a recent interview he did clarify this, specifically alluding to getting a grip on excessive drinking while not attempting to achieve 100% sobriety, along with stating “the first room you walk in at my house, there’s probably 200 bottles of bourbon there.” According to Sazerac, both “both [Stapleton] and [Wheatley] are noted as co-founders given their heavy involvement in every aspect of the brand’s creation, from concept to whiskey selection and label development.”

Bourbon and American whiskey releases have gotten a bit oversaturated in the $60-$90 range nowadays. Comparing one to the next, the value is often fair, but the reality is there are a lot of whiskeys in that range vying for attention. On the other hand, the sub-$50 category has been fairly stagnant for a while when it comes to the introduction of new, widespread, and readily available options. There are a lot of great existing whiskeys in that price range, from Buffalo Trace itself to Wild Turkey 101 , Knob Creek , and Four Roses Small Batch . But new options rarely emerge, especially from the big Kentucky players. To that end, it’s a smart play to enter this price point within the market if the financials justify it, and it’s probably not a bad idea to tie in a celebrity if your goal is to attract a new audience. Traditionalists often scoff at celebrity whiskeys, as it’s hard to tell if they’re simply marketing angles or are driven specifically by the celebrity’s love for the spirit. Brands like Brother’s Bond , Heaven’s Door , and American Highway Reserve really feel like it is about a love for whiskey, while others veer the opposite way. According to Sazerac, Stapleton has been heavily involved with the creation of this whiskey, and now that’s it’s in the market we will likely see more firsthand how his involvement unfolds. Being a blended whiskey makes for a tough comparison, as there are not many others in the market and what is there is very different, though Five Trail Whiskey from Coor’s (yes the beer company, $60) and Suntory World Whiskey AO ($55) come to mind. Traveller Whiskey bests these when it comes to price point, but it’s not really the right fight. Marketed as simply “whiskey” and priced at $40, it has to compete with others in that realm even if it is technically a blended whiskey. Thankfully it isn’t like those terrible blended whiskeys of the past, instead offering redeeming qualities that will likely appeal to a large segment of consumers. On the other hand, for those looking for something more complex and not bored by more of the same, staples in that range offer more complexity and often for a lower price point and with little detail to go by for this blended whiskey.

The first celebrity-themed whiskey associated with Buffalo Trace, Traveller Whiskey offers a unique flavor profile that will appeal to the masses, but leaves more discerning consumers wondering what actually makes up the blend.

Traveller Whiskey is a sweet, simple sip. It has a lot to like in one realm, and will appeal to a wide audience with its creamy mouthfeel and versatility. For traditionalists, it will probably raise more eyebrows for the fact that it’s a celebrity whiskey rather than the fact that it’s classified as a blended whiskey. Frankly, if you do take issue with this release, the blended whiskey aspect is the issue to focus on. I don’t mind celebrities attaching their name to whiskey if real passion for whiskey is involved, and ultimately the market will do the talking. But what is in the blend, at least from a high level, is worth paying attention to. Coming from Sazerac Company, Inc. and being attached to Buffalo Trace gives Traveller Whiskey immediate credibility, not to mention widespread distribution and built-in marketing momentum. It’s targeted towards a wide audience, and I think that same wide audience will accept it with open arms. It hits the right drinkability-versatility mark, which can only be attributed to Wheatley’s skillset. On the other hand, it’s not a complex sipper, and very little is shared about this whiskey, including what the blend is composed of and whether or not any of the whiskey within the blend was even distilled at Buffalo Trace. Undoubtedly, this will raise questions among the small subset of whiskey drinkers who dig deeper than the label. Truthfully Traveller Whiskey probably isn’t intended for today’s typical bourbon enthusiast, but it will probably satisfy more casual consumers looking for something different within the lower price range. People looking for something more complex and not in need of the newest thing will be content sipping Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Wild Turkey 101, or Four Roses Small Batch to name just a few lower cost, readily-available options. For those open to something new and different, Traveller Whiskey does have a not-so-familiar flavor profile, so if you are curious you will have to simply try it for yourself.

While Allianz is one of the best international travel insurance providers, it also has great CFAR coverage for its Prime and Premier single-trip plans, covering 80% of nonrefundable travel expenses when most policies usually offer 75%. Coverage Options Offered by Allianz

Allianz travel insurance offers different policies, grouped under two types: single trips and annual multi-trip insurance .

The company's travel insurance policies can include the following coverage types:

• Trip interruption coverage , which can help recoup costs if you leave a trip early.
• Travel delay , which can cover some costs if you need additional accommodations due to a delay in travel.
• Emergency medical transportation , which covers transportation to a hospital for eligible illnesses and injuries.
• Emergency medical expenses in case of a dental or medical emergency.
• Baggage delay , which can cover some costs if you need to purchase required items due to your bags being delayed by a certain period of time. Must have receipts for this.

Single-Trip Plans

The general budget option is OneTrip Basic, which can offer various protections should something happen, if you file a claim for a qualified reason.

One step up is the OneTrip Prime policy, one of the most popular plans Allianz offers. It has higher coverage limits than the Basic plan, along with some additional perks.

A more complete option is OneTrip Premier, which includes more comprehensive protections should you need them. This policy is for more extensive, longer trips and includes extras like SmartBenefits—which up to $100 per day for a covered travel or baggage delay with no receipts necessary, only proof of delay—and sports equipment loss coverage.

The coverage limits available vary by plan. Here's an overview of what each policy covers:

Other OneTrip Premier benefits not mentioned in the table above include:

• Sports Traveler, reimbursement up to $1,000 in the event of a missed sports event for a qualified reason
• Sports Equipment Loss, reimbursement up to $1,000 to cover damaged or lost sports equipment
• Sports Equipment Rental, reimbursement up to $1,000 for the cost to rent sports equipment if your equipment is damaged or lost
• Vehicle return, up to $750 reimbursement to return your vehicle to your home if you can't drive it for a qualified reason

OneTrip Emergency Medical is a budget option that exclusively offers post-departure benefits to cover you while you're on your trip. As such, the plan doesn't include pre-departure benefits such as trip cancellation or interruption.

OneTrip Cancellation Plus

The OneTrip Cancellation Plus policy by Allianz is its economical back-to-basics option that can recoup costs in the event of a travel delay, interruption, or cancellation for a qualified reason. This policy includes:

• Travel interruption coverage, up to $5,000
• Trip cancellation coverage, up to $5,000
• Travel delay, up to $150 with delays of six hours and beyond

Multi-Trip Plans

The aforementioned policies are for single trips, but with Allianz travel insurance it's possible to get an annual/multi-trip policy.

The starter annual plan is the AllTrips Basic policy which includes the most basic coverage, and it excludes both trip interruption and trip cancellation coverage.

The AllTrips Prime policy is geared toward travelers who take a minimum of three trips each year and comes with additional coverage compared to the basic plan.

Another annual plan is the AllTrips Premier policy, which is geared toward frequent travelers and includes higher coverage limits and choices.

AllTrips Executive

Additionally, there's the AllTrips Executive policy, which may be a good fit if you're a frequent business traveler. Under this plan, personal travel is also covered. This policy includes:

• Trip interruption coverage, up to $5,000, $7,500, or $10,000
• Trip cancellation coverage, up to $5,000, $7,500 or $10,000
• Travel delay, with a daily limit of $200 up to $1,600 for delays of six hours and beyond
• Travel accident coverage, up to $50,000
• Baggage delay, up to $1,000 with a delay of 12 hours or more

OneTrip Rental Car Protector

If you're looking for rental car coverage, Allianz offers the OneTrip Rental Car Protector policy for $11 per day. This policy includes:

• Trip interruption coverage, up to $1,000
• Collision damage waiver, up to $50,000 which helps cover costs in the event your rental car is damaged in an accident or stolen

On top of the rental car coverage plan, with the OneTrip Prime plan, there's an optional upgrade to get Required to Work coverage. If there is a work-related emergency and you need to cancel for a qualified reason, this coverage can help recover expenses.

Cancel For Any Reason

An optional upgrade for OneTrip Prime and OneTrip Premier, Allianz cancel for any reason policy covers 80% of nonrefundable costs when canceling a trip for any reason. Allianz stands out compared to the best CFAR travel insurance as most policies only offer 75% coverage. 

What's Not Included with Allianz Travel Insurance?

Allianz travel insurance covers the basics and more and has some high-risk activity exclusions in the OneTrip Premier plan. Aside from that, Allianz travel insurance excludes the following:

• Acts of violence, such as war, terrorism, and civil unrest
• Risky adventure sports
• Unexpected natural disasters (OneTrip Premier allows cancellation due to hurricane warnings)
• Any travel alerts or government regulations and more

Competitor AXA travel insurance covers 75% of your nonrefundable costs if you choose to cancel, for any reason (as the name suggests) if you choose that as an upgrade and buy it two weeks before your first trip deposit. Allianz's CFAR policy covers 80% of nonrefundable costs.

That said, if we look at the travel insurance quotes based on a 30-year-old traveler from California going to Japan in the first two weeks of October paying a total of $4,000 for the trip, AXA travel insurance is more affordable. It's $97 for its Silver plan, which covers 100% trip cancellation and interruption. Compare this to $153 for the OneTrip Basic Plan through Allianz.

Allianz Travel Insurance  vs. HTH Travel Insurance

Allianz is a good travel insurance option if you're looking for a variety of customized choices. Another competitor, HTH Worldwide Travel Insurance , has three trip protection options.

TripProtector Economy is HTH's budget option and may be a good fit if you're looking for higher medical coverage limits. This policy covers up to $75,000 in accident and sick benefits and $500 in dental benefits.

Plus, the policy covers up to $500,000 for an emergency evacuation. The OneTrip Basic policy from Allianz covers the same dental benefits but offers just $10,000 in medical expenses.

Allianz vs. Credit Card Travel Insurance

A travel insurance policy can offer robust protections, but if you're looking for something basic for trip interruption or cancellation and rental car coverage, check your travel rewards credit card. If you experience illness, weather, or cancellations that affect your trip, you may be able to recoup costs.

Credit card travel insurance coverage may be a good fit for short trips where you don't have a ton of upfront prepaid costs. However, if you're going to be away for a while, have many prepaid expenses, and are concerned about medical coverage, traditional travel insurance may be your best bet.

Allianz is a reputable and well-established travel insurance provider. The company offers various travel insurance policies for individual trips as well as annual plans. Coverage options may include trip interruption, trip cancellation, trip delay, emergency medical, and more. The company has mixed reviews from consumers but has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Nearly all travel insurance policies offered by Allianz cover COVID-19, aside from the OneTrip Rental Car Protector Plan. Through the Allianz Epidemic Coverage Endorsement, policyholders receive additional protections if they need to cancel a trip due to COVID. Unfortunately, while it's available in most plans it's not available in all jurisdictions, so be sure to read the fine print.

While the best plan is one best suited to your needs, Allianz's OneTrip Premier is the most robust policy, with high cancellation and interruption coverage. Additionally, kids 17 and under are included in coverage. This policy also includes unique benefits for athletes and adventurers thanks to sports equipment coverage.

If you need to file a claim, Allianz may require proof of incident in order to receive benefits. In cases of medical issues, you may need to provide a medical receipt or document. In other cases, you may need to provide other documentation for trip cancellation or trip interruption such as a death certificate, police report, or employment letter.

Allianz doesn't cover missed flights exactly but can help cover costs due to trip delays depending on your policy. So if you missed a connecting flight, you may be able to receive funds to recoup costs related to accommodations and transportation.

Review: ‘Crazy for You’ serves up romance, dazzling tap moves in Ogunquit

“Who could ask for anything more?” is a famous line from “I Got Rhythm,” a classic tune by George and Ira Gershwin that’s included in the latest show at the Ogunquit Playhouse. It’s not a bad question to ask.

You’ve got two solid stars up front, dozens of attractive singers and dancers behind them, and a wealth of both clever and romantic Gershwin songs. And, as if that weren’t enough, the inimitable Sally Struthers comes onstage to fill two comedic roles that supply some of the best laughs in the show.

Chalk it up to a production still coming together, but “Crazy For You” showed a few seams in terms of pacing in its first performance after opening night. But the impeccably performed vintage music and the let’s-put-on-a-show spirit of the book by Ken Ludwig carried the 2½-hour show through for an entertaining afternoon at the venerable summer theater on the southern coast of Maine.

The dynamic Max Clayton sang and danced like a veteran performer who knows where the audience-pleasing theatrical goodies are hidden. His banker character Bobby soon became a faux showbiz master as he falls for a girl and decides to revive her father’s theater in Nevada rather than foreclose on the property.

Clayton’s tap talents are many and were all smoothly executed with whirling flourishes that truly dazzled. His voice sold such long-time Gershwin favorites as “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” the latter accompanied by an impressive chorus of lovely, talented female singer/dancers.

Taylor Aronson plays Bobby’s love interest Polly, adding her own very natural-sounding delivery to such classics as “Someone To Watch Over Me” and “But Not For Me.” Aronson also held her own in romantic song and dance duets with Clayton on such tunes as “Shall We Dance” and “Embraceable You.” Director Angelique Ilo’s take on the show’s original dance moves, choreographed by Susan Stroman, fit the pair well in both upfront showy and more elegantly flowing moments. The 76-year-old Struthers again proved her brilliant comedic timing in scenes with Clayton and Jim Borstelmann, the latter as a companionable British twit. Her double takes and little exclamations were hilarious as were some timeless bits of physical comedy performed by others throughout the show.

Angie Schworer and Peter Kendall got hot and heavy on “Naughty Baby” while a Cowboy Trio and a group of layabout ex-miners spiced up several pieces. Alexandria Van Paris, Delaney Bailey, Jack Doyle and Tony Roach also stood out in secondary roles. All were backed by a jauntily swinging offstage band led by Ken Clifton while some occasional onstage percussion from the players, tapping feet and more, served to bring things forward.

The sets by Adam Koch and costumes by William Ivey Long mix old-style Broadway flash and rustic cowboy folksiness, placing the audience in a world closer to an earlier, 1930s incarnation (The Gershwin brothers’ “Girl Crazy”) on which this award-winning 1992 show was based.
