International travel documents for children

See what documents a child needs to travel to or from the U.S. alone or with a parent or relative.

Children traveling to the U.S.

All children, including infants, must have their own travel documents such as a passport or document from a Trusted Traveler Program to enter the U.S. If you travel or are going to travel with a child, consider taking the following documents:

  • If the child is traveling with only one of their custodial parents, they must have a letter of consent, preferably in English and notarized, from the other parent or signed by both parents. The letter should say "I acknowledge that my son/daughter is traveling outside the country with [the name of the adult] with my permission."
  • If one parent has sole custody of the child, a copy of the custody document can take the place of the other parent's letter.
  • Parents who frequently cross the border by land with a minor must always carry a letter of permission from the other parent.

U.S. citizen children traveling abroad

Ports of entry in many countries have security measures to prevent international child abduction . If you are traveling alone with your child, you may be required to present documentation proving you are the parent or legal guardian. You may also need a letter of permission from the other parent for your child to travel.

If your child travels alone, depending on the country, they may be required to present a notarized letter from both parents or their legal guardian. If a minor is traveling abroad and is not accompanied by both parents or a legal guardian, contact the embassy or consulate of the country you will be visiting and ask about entry and exit requirements for that country.

Unwinding Wordle: Accelerating Your Solve

Tips for the game derived from our solver data, plus more from the game’s editor and its devoted community of solvers.

An illustration of eight characters holding different letters of the alphabet at a table with the Wordle gameboard.

By Isaac Aronow

Wordle has captivated millions of players since it started gaining popularity at the end of 2021. While the game’s strategy seems straightforward, Wordle has a devoted community of daily solvers who have spent years developing techniques to improve their solve. No matter your reasons for solving, a little knowledge goes a long way when you’re trying to get better, so I, Isaac Aronow, an editor on the Games team, reached out to the game’s editor as well as some of its most dedicated fans for their best advice.

Remember the rules

Before we get too deep into the steps you can take to improve, it helps to remember the basics. You get six guesses to find the day’s five letter word. A yellow square means the letter is in the word, but not in the right spot. A green square means the letter is in the word and in the correct spot. A gray square means the letter is not in the word. I’ve also found that it helps to think about what the answer won’t be: plurals that end in S, nearly all verbs that end with -ED and any vulgar or obscene words. You can still guess these words to help yourself find letters, but they’ll never be the answer.

Wordle doesn’t have a difficulty curve throughout the course of the week like the daily crossword puzzle, but Tracy Bennett, Wordle’s editor, is always thinking about how tricky her word choices are. She said that she considers herself a steward of Josh Wardle’s original list, though she adds or removes a few words every month, adding that the game “wasn’t originally conceived as a game tens of millions of people would play,” and that the word list needed a bit of adjusting after The New York Times acquired it in 2022. The difficulty of each word is tested by a panel and adjustments to timing or content are made with their feedback in mind.

For an added challenge, solvers also have the option to play in hard mode, where you must use the letters you have already discovered in your subsequent guesses.

While everything in this guide might be a lot to take in all at once, breaking everything into parts and setting goals for yourself will help you set yourself up for future success. Maybe you want to build a long streak, maybe you want to solve in fewer average guesses, or maybe there’s another goal you have. Focus on the information you think will be more helpful to you in reaching your goal, then make sure you solve with that goal in mind.

Now, we can start to discuss one of the most personal aspects of Wordle strategy: What word should you start with? “My style is to be very whimsical with the first word,” said Ms. Bennett, adding, “Just whatever pops into my head.” Katie Grogg, a crossword puzzle influencer who also solves Wordle every day, said that she solves Spelling Bee first, then uses the last five letter word she found as her starting word in Wordle. According to our data, about one third of solvers prefer to use the same word to start at least 80 percent of the time. These players have a slightly higher solve rate — about three percent — compared with those who start with a different word every day.

The most popular starting word by far is ADIEU, with AUDIO and STARE distantly following in that order. Both of the top two feature four vowels, which means they eliminate or confirm a lot of important letters quickly. They’re not the only options for four-vowel guesses, but none of the others, namely OUTIE and OUIJA, appear in the top 100 most common starting words.

STARE, on the other hand, is indicative of a broader trend of words with two or three vowels and common consonants that becomes clear as you work down the list. These are words like TRAIN, IRATE and STARE, which are all options that appear in the top 20. It’s clear from this list that solvers prioritize R, S, T, L N and E, colloquially known as the Wheel of Fortune letters, which are some of the most common in English. The last category, one vowel starters, contains words like STERN or PLANT, which solvers I spoke to said they use to target the most common consonants.

Once you’ve entered your starting guess, if you haven’t been lucky enough to score a hole in one, you’ll have to start thinking about what to enter for your second guess. There are lots of different paths to take from here, and it helps to keep some types of answers in mind as you progress.

While first guess strategy is deeply individual, it’s the second guess that leaves the most room for skill. Ms. Bennet said that your second guess has the most impact the more information you can glean out of your initial entry. She plays on hard mode, which means that she has to work around any green squares she finds at first. So, in a guess that has only a yellow E in the fifth position, she might guess a word like BERET second, to help place that E. Alternatively, depending on her first guess, she might use the second one to check for any remaining vowels.

Since the beginning of 2023, CLOUD is the most common second guess, followed closely by STORY. This fits with Ms. Bennett’s theory that solvers like to use their second guess to check the remaining vowels — O and Y do not appear in ADIEU, and both these words contain other common letters. Looking broadly at the data, most players seem to choose a word with at least two vowels that contains at least one letter from their first guess. Some solvers may prefer a start with two words, which we know because popular starting words like AUDIO, STARE and TRAIN appear in the top 20 second guesses as well.

Breaking down the data by individual day though tells a slightly different story. While CLOUD and STORY are most popular in aggregate, the individual data each day shows that the most efficient solvers are basing their second guess off what they learn from the first.

Guess Three

After you’ve gained the insights from your second guess, it’s time to drill down a little more. With what you’ve learned from your first two guesses, start planning for the next one. You should hopefully have a green square or two by now, or at least enough yellow squares that you can begin to untangle the anagram a bit.

Ms. Bennet said that this is the point when solvers should begin to consider common two letter combinations, like TH or RE when formulating their guesses, “If you have a G in the fourth position, there’s a good chance you’ll have an H in the fifth.” It also helps to remember that not every word uses a common construction. “I forget sometimes that words can start with a vowel,” said Ms. Grogg, “Sometimes it takes me a few extra guesses to remember, ‘yes, ERASE is a word.’”

This is also the point when you should start thinking about solutions with doubled letters, which are notorious among Wordle players as being some of the hardest to catch. “The one thing Wordle won’t tell you,” Ms. Bennett said, “is if there is more than one of the same letter. It’ll tell you that you got that letter, but not how many there are.” Even with that though, on average solvers take roughly an extra one third of a guess to solve a word with a doubled letter.

Words with tripled letters are rare, with only three appearing since the beginning of 2023, but solvers took almost three quarters of a guess more than average to solve them, making these one of the most difficult types of words to track down.

At guess four, it’s time to start getting specific. A solve of four guesses is still roughly average, so there’s still a chance for par if you get here. Keeping with the theme of using what you’ve learned, focus first on your greens and yellows. From there, though, here’s another word type to keep in mind.

In past solves, you may have also run into issues with words that have common letter patterns, like -OUND. Ms. Bennet recommends that if you find yourself in a situation where you’re trapped one letter away with multiple options, to think about a few words that it could be, then guess a word that contains all the potential letters. So, for example, if you had the four letter combination of -OUGH, BOUGH, TOUGH and ROUGH are among possible answers, so guessing BERTH would help reveal the final letter. If you’re playing in hard mode, though, “you’re screwed,” said Ms. Bennett.

“I’ve lost my streak a couple of times on those,” said Ms. Grogg, who plays in hard mode. Being forced to use your previous letters makes a big impact when you get trapped one letter away. The data shows that too: On April 23, 2024, when the answer was ROVER, users who had -OVER but then made a guess containing a few possible options for the last spot had an average solve rate of about 86 percent. Solvers who found the trap but didn’t (or couldn’t if they were in hard mode) make a guess to fish for the missing consonant had a solve rate closer to 57 percent.

A lot of solvers really start to feel the heat when they reach guess five. Hopefully you’ve got a couple of green letters now, but if not, don’t fret. You still have another guess you can use to divine the answer. A solve in five or six guesses is still a solve, and hopefully one you can learn something from to apply to the next puzzle. If you’re feeling stuck or frustrated, now would also be a great moment to take a break and come back to the puzzle. Approaching it with fresh eyes might give you the reset you need to figure out what you’re missing.

The next thing to think about should be uncommon letters, which often appear in combination with some of the previously mentioned challenges. A word like JAZZY, which was the solution on June 1, 2023, features mostly rare letters, including a pair of “Zs.” For harder letters, like “Z,” “X” and “J,” Ms. Grogg said, “If I can get those letters early it’s actually pretty easy. There’s only so many of those words. If I get to my fourth or fifth guess, it’s really annoying.” She added that she struggled with JAZZY when it was the solution, and our data shows that she wasn’t alone. On average, it took solvers 5.44 guesses to solve JAZZY, with only about two percent finding it in three guesses or fewer making it one of the hardest words of 2023.

Words like INDEX and AZURE, despite being less extreme examples containing several common letters, still took solvers about a quarter of a guess more on average compared to words that did not feature a rare letter, so don’t be hard on yourself if it takes you a little longer to find them.

If you’ve made it all the way here, the first piece of good news I have for you is that when we count solve rates, a solve in six and a solve in one are weighted equally. The second is that you’ve still got a guess left to solve the puzzle.

At this point, you should have enough information to at least make your best guess at the answer. Statistically speaking, it’s very unlikely you wouldn’t have at least a few yellow squares by this point. When you’re on that stressful last guess, “I don’t think it’s illegal to look up a word in the dictionary after you enter it but before you guess it.” Ms. Bennett said, adding “You came up with it yourself, you just checked.” She also said that it’s OK to phone a friend if you’re stuck, and that while she tries her best to only use words that people will know as the solution, sometimes, you just won’t know it.

If you do fail, take solace in the fact that you’re never the only person who fails a given puzzle. That’s especially true if it’s a hard one. See if you can get your next streak higher than your last one.

You can also improve your skills by utilizing the tools available to you in the Games app. WordleBot, which was recently added to the Games app , is a tool that will analyze your personal solve and give you some advice to help you improve. Players who use it solve the puzzle on average a quarter of a guess faster than those who don’t. One of its other benefits is that it shows you the average number of guesses of all solvers who used it that day. If you struggled, it can be comforting to know that other solvers had just as tough a time.

If you run into trouble during your solve, an additional tool you can check out is the Wordle Review for that day’s puzzle, which will give you two of the five letters in the solution. Once you solve, go to the comments to discuss your strategy with the rest of the Wordle community. Be careful, though — the Wordle Review contains spoilers, so we advise you to look at an older one first to familiarize yourself with the format.

Subscribers gain access to the archive, allowing you to revisit older puzzles. Every solver should be able to find some new puzzles in the archive, as it contains puzzles from before The New York Times acquired the game, including those from before Josh Wardle made the game public. While some solvers may gain a lot from solving puzzles in the archive, there’s only so much knowledge a person can take in at once. A few solvers I interviewed for this guide said that approaching the puzzle with fresh eyes every day as it’s released was more helpful to their growth.

Slowly, as you take what you learn from this guide, and what you learn from solving the puzzles, you’ll get a little bit closer to your solving goals. It won’t be an overnight change, but you’ll notice slow improvement as you keep going. Remember to approach each solve thoughtfully, and before you know it you’ll be exactly where you wanted to be when you set out to get better.

Essential RV Must Haves for Your First Trip

W hen we purchased our first travel trailer , we were initially overwhelmed with all the additional information and supplies we didn’t know about.

We had a list of fun things we wanted to buy for our RV but quickly realized we would need to tackle a list of necessities first to set up camp.

Buying an RV isn’t like buying a car and it isn’t like buying a house. I suppose, like the vehicle itself, it’s a hybrid of the two.

This means there are a few items you need to buy in addition to your new rig before you can safely get on the road.

That first trip can feel a little stressful, but I promise you it gets easier and that process happens pretty quickly!

Mediavine Video Placeholder Video only displays when ad script wrapper is loaded on page

What does Every RV Need?

No matter how big or how small your trailer or RV is, almost all RVs need the same basic essentials.

If you are buying new, you may be surprised to learn that these things are not always included with your big purchase!

Buying used may give you a break on a few items, but there will be others that need to be replaced.

RV owners will need the following to get set up, and we haven’t even gone inside yet!

Yes, before we get to the fun parts of decorating and organizing and packing your RV , we have to make sure the rig itself is functional.

You will need some additional supplies for the following RV systems:

RV Essentials – Top Picks

Wondering what you really need to get on the road with your new RV or looking for gifts for a new RV owner?

I have compiled a list of what we consider to be the absolutely non-negotiable must haves for Rving. There is a lot to consider but when it comes to the essentials, the list really isn’t that long.

The costs do add up though, so be sure to make space in your budget so you can get out there and start your camping adventure!

RV Must Haves List

These are some of the most highly recommended products and the ones we use in our own rig. Before you take your first trip, make sure you have some version of everything on this list!

Drinking Safe Water Hose

The Teknor Apex Zero-G hose came highly recommended to us from many seasoned RVers and we love it! There are a few different lengths to choose from.

Water Pressure Regulator

For just a few dollars, you can protect your entire RV plumbing system. Enough said.

RV/Marine Water Filter

This is a great little filter for outside your rig. We like to attach it between the hose and the RV as a final point of entry and filtration. I also love the added hose to allow for a bend in the hose without bursting.

Surge Protector

Surge protectors are essential for RV safety and care. If there is an issue with the shore power, this will act as a barrier between the power and your rig! Make sure you find the right model for your specific RV and I recommend the ones with a cover to protect against the elements.

Andersen Levelers

There are quite a few ways to level a trailer, but for a beginner, these levelers are worth their weight in gold! My husband backs in and I can get these under the tires in no time.

Leveling Blocks

Another option for leveling are these stackable blocks. We have a set of these for when we need a little extra support. They can also be used under the stabilizer jacks or stacked up as an extra step if needed.

We use a basic tool like this one when we level. There are high tech systems out there that people seem to love, but we've found that simple works just fine for our needs.

Wheel Chocks

We use these affordable rubber wheel chocks on the side of the RV that we didn't have to level. They are great!

RV Sewer Hose Kit

We like the Camco 20' (39742) RhinoFLEX 20-Foot RV Sewer Hose Kit for the transparent elbow and cap covers.

RV Sewer Hose Support

At first we thought a hose support wasn't necessary. That was before we found ourselves trying to empty the tanks up hill from our drain! The Camco 20ft Sidewinder RV Sewer Hose Support is now on our must-have list.

Disposable Gloves

You have to empty the black tank. There is no getting around it. Make sure you have gloves!

Today's Wordle being played on a phone

Wordle gives you six rows of five boxes each day, and it's your job to work out which five-letter word is hiding by eliminating or confirming the letters it contains.

Starting with a strong word like LEASH—something containing multiple vowels, common consonants, and no repeat letters—is a good place to start. Once you hit Enter, the boxes will show you which letters you've got right or wrong. If a box turns ⬛️, it means that letter isn't in the secret word at all. 🟨 means the letter is in the word, but not in that position. 🟩 means you've got the right letter in the right spot.

Your second go should compliment the starting word, using another "good" guess to cover any common letters you missed last time while also trying to avoid any letter you now know for a fact isn't present in today's answer.  After that, it's just a case of using what you've learned to narrow your guesses down to the right word. You have six tries in total and can only use real words (so no filling the boxes with EEEEE to see if there's an E). Don't forget letters can repeat too (ex: BOOKS).

Originally, Wordle was dreamed up by software engineer Josh Wardle , as a surprise for his partner who loves word games. From there it spread to his family, and finally got released to the public. The word puzzle game has since inspired tons of games like Wordle , refocusing the daily gimmick around music or math or geography. It wasn't long before Wordle became so popular it was sold to the New York Times for seven figures . Surely it's only a matter of time before we all solely communicate in tricolor boxes.

US attorney 'declined' to prosecute over threat to congressman, letter claims

Rep. Jim Banks was left threatening messages.

The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana declined to prosecute a man who threatened to kill an Indiana congressman and his family, according to a letter obtained by ABC News.

Republican Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) was left threatening messages by Aaron Thompson, who was later sentenced to two years of probation by the local district attorney in Indiana, but the new letter raises questions about why the U.S. Attorney, which normally handles threats to members of Congress, did not prosecute the case.

"Three daughters. Hey, hey, hey, three bullets hey, hey, hey one wife yay. Oh yeah, yeah, we'll give her two bullets.." Thompson said in one threatening voicemail, according to the letter.

FBI agents visited Thompson's house, where, according to the letter by Banks and sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland in December, he "admitted he had threatened me and my family with violence because he disagreed with my political beliefs."

"When Capitol Police referred the criminal case against Aaron Thompson to the U.S. Attorney for Northern District of Indiana, they declined to prosecute despite clear evidence that Thompson violated federal law," Banks wrote.

Banks is running for the open Senate seat in Indiana.

Garland, according to Banks, has made it a priority to prosecute threats to members of Congress and Banks asked why the DOJ didn't pursue prosecution in his situation when similar threats made against California Rep. Eric Swalwell were prosecuted.

Last week, Garland penned an op-ed decrying political violence.

"Disagreements about politics are good for our democracy," Garland wrote in an opinion piece in the Washington Post . "They are normal. But using conspiracy theories, falsehoods, violence and threats of violence to affect political outcomes is not normal.

A spokesperson for the congressman said the Justice Department had not responded to Banks' letter.

In response to an ABC News request for comment, the Justice Department pointed to over a dozen prosecutions of individuals alleged to have threatened Republican members of Congress, including threats to Reps. Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Higgins.

"The Department investigates threats to public officials regardless of their party affiliation, and we have prosecuted multiple cases of threats made to both Republican and Democratic Members of Congress," a DOJ spokesperson said. "The Attorney General has told Congress that he views threats to public officials as threats to our democracy and the Department will continue to treat them as such."

FBI raids Oakland mayor's home, several other locations in political corruption probe: source

KGO logo

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Just as the sun rose Thursday, FBI agents raided the home of Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao. There is no official word about the reason for the investigation, but sources tell the ABC7 I-Team it involves a political corruption case against the mayor and some of her supporters.

The FBI confirmed only that they carried out a "court-authorized law enforcement activity" at the mayor's home, but that was not the only stop for agents on Thursday.

Confirmed locations raided by federal officials:

  • Home of Mayor Sheng Thao on Maiden Lane in the Oakland Hills
  • California Waste Solutions at the Embarcadero
  • Home of California Waste Solutions' Andy Duong on View Crest Court
  • Home of California Waste Solutions' David and Linda Duong on Skyline Blvd

More than a dozen FBI agents emerged from Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao's house after four hours inside. They carried boxes, plastic tubs and trash bags and left without comment. Witnesses heard a ruckus before 6 a.m.

Nina Medina, President of the National Latino Peace Officers Association, told us, "And about 6:00 this morning, I heard a male voice yelling to open the door. Open the door."

Medina happened to be staying in the neighborhood with friends. She came from San Diego for a meeting with the new Oakland police chief.

"The federal government doesn't force or obtain warrants into one's residence without probable cause," Medina said. "And when it rises, in my experience, to the level of the federal government, you're talking about some significant issues."

Once the FBI left, ABC7 News went to Thao's door to check reports it had been kicked in or rammed through. There was no damage to the door or sill.

Later, Mayor Thao's partner and father of her two children, Andre Jones, emerged with a bag and refused to comment before he left.

Law enforcement sources tell ABC7 News this is a public corruption case, with the FBI, IRS and US Postal Service working together. Agents hit several locations, including the offices of California Waste Solutions - we spotted IRS investigators there.

The company was started by David and Victor Duong who were under investigation by the Public Ethics Commission for funneling money through "straw donors" to council members, a story first reported by Oaklandside in 2020.

Thao allegedly received some of that money. She also traveled with the Duong brothers who funded the trade mission to Vietnam last summer . All this, in a week with her recall being approved for a vote.

MORE: Recall organizers call on Oakland mayor to resign after measure garners enough signatures for ballot

"While the FBI raid does not prove her guilt in the ongoing investigation, we already have multiple smoking guns indicating Thao's lack of fitness for public office," said OUST president Brenta Harbin-Forte. "OUST calls on the numerous individuals and organizations that endorsed Mayor Thao to speak out on these recent events. They spent millions to get Thao elected, and all of these relationships are now called into question."

"Oakland is in crisis. The mayor's office is in crisis," said political consultant Sam Singer. He has guided political campaigns and corporations through various types of crises. He says the future does not look bright for the mayor.

"In the last 24 hours, 40,000 voters turned in signatures to have the mayor recalled. This morning, she wakes up, and the FBI is knocking her door down. I don't see how she overcomes this, it's likely that she will wind up having to resign."

We reached out to the mayor's office and have not received any sort of comment. She canceled an appearance at a news conference Friday morning.

California Waste Solutions released the following statement in response to these raids:

California Waste Solutions is fully aware that federal agents executed search warrants at a number of locations in Oakland related to CWS.

The company is fully cooperating with the government's investigation and is confident that government officials will conclude that CWS was not involved in any unlawful or improper activities.

Oakland city officials surprised by FBI raid of mayor's home

There is strong community reaction in Oakland to Thursday's raid by federal agents at Mayor Shang Thao's home and other locations.

The mayor's partner Andre Jones had nothing to say as he left Oakland City Hall Thursday following an FBI raid at the Oakland home they share and other locations.

The news, sending shockwaves through the halls of Oakland City Hall where we were told the mayor's office was temporarily closed for the day, the doors to Thao's office were locked.

Oakland City Councilmember Carroll Fife spoke after a closed-door council session.

"We don't know what's going on, this is not something we were briefed on, the police department was not involved but we don't know so I have nothing else to say," said Fife.

Vice Mayor Rebecca Kaplan addressed a rumor her home was also raided, posting on X, "Nope not true."

Oakland Chinatown community leader, Carl Chan was upset to hear about the FBI raid, and worries it pulls focus from more pressing issues facing the city.

"I'm suggesting and telling elected officials when you are a public servant you have to be careful how you are dealing with the public trust," said Chan.

Protesters demand Thao's resignation

trip three letter words

Protesters gathered outside the home of Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao Thursday afternoon, demanding her resignation after an FBI raid of the house early in the morning.

"I was shocked, just like everybody else," said protester Tuan Ngo.

Outside Thao's house, Ngo says he thinks the mayor avoiding the public is making matters worse. He believes what Oakland needs now more than ever is transparency.

"The mayor should explain to the residents what's going on. She should step out, show leadership and say how she's helping Oakland," Ngo said.

ABC7 News reached out to nearly all of the members of the Oakland City Council Thursday.

Most of them declined to comment or go on camera.

We did catch up with Councilmember Carroll Fife, however, as she was leaving a closed door council session in the evening.

"We don't know what's going on. This is not something the council was briefed on. That the Oakland Police Department told us about. I don't think they were involved. So I have very little to say because we have very little information," Fife said.

Law enforcement expert Dr. Lisa Hill has conducted investigations with federal authorities before. She says the raid is not just a bad look for the struggling city.

Hill tells ABC7 News reporter Tim Johns, given that the raid was so public in nature, she believes the FBI thinks it has a strong case against Thao.

"Maybe they're not even included, the local city law enforcement, but they're being kept in the dark. This has all the looks of a pretty serious situation," Hill said.

Sir Keir was a key figure in My Corbyn's team five years ago, but now says he "never thought they would win" the 2017 or 2019 elections.

During last night's Question Time election special, Sir Keir claimed that Mr Corbyn would have been a better prime minister than Boris Johnson, had he been elected.

When asked about Sir Keir's claims, Mr Corbyn told the Evening Standard: "He didn't say that at the time. He never hinted at that, or intimated that at any stage to me.

"We did press conferences and events together in the 2019 election.

"He was part of the shadow cabinet that agreed the manifesto, and part of the Clause V who agreed the manifesto. Own it. I was there, he was there… and there were witnesses."

Last week, Mr Corbyn accused Sir Keir of trying to rewrite history with his comments on the pair's working relationship.

"You have to be honest about what you said, what you did in the past, and carry on from there," Mr Corbyn added.

"I think it's a bit sad really. Why doesn't he just say 'Well, this is what I did at the time'?"

Our live poll tracker collates the results of opinion surveys carried out by all the main polling organisations - and allows you to see how the political parties are performing in the run-up to the general election.

The Conservative Party is seen as "tawdry", Ruth Davidson has said, as two of its candidates are being investigated over alleged bets placed on the election date.

The Gambling Commission is looking into two Tory candidates over alleged wagers on the date of the 4 July election.

An industry source has told Sky News that "more names" are being looked into, but police are so far "not involved".

Speaking on the  Electoral Dysfunction podcast with Sky News political editor Beth Rigby, and former broadcaster and presenter Carol Vorderman, the former leader of the Scottish Tories waded into the fallout of the alleged betting scandal.

"What an absolute shit show. Firstly, I mean, how tawdry is it?" she said.

She described it as akin to "insider trading" and criticised Rishi Sunak's response, saying he had repeatedly failed to get out in front and take control of events.

Welsh Labour's manifesto launch kicks off in Wrexham with words from the party's former leader Neil Kinnock.

Mr Kinnock is welcomed with a warm round of applause and he wastes little time attacking the Conservatives on their economic policy and "crashing the economy" with a "mad budget".

"That's not national prudence," Mr Kinnock says, "that's national pillage".

Introducing Rachel Reeves, Mr Kinnock says he understands why the shadow chancellor can't make economic promises without saying where the money is coming from.

"Her caution is not fear or lack of ambition," he says.

"In the conditions that Labour will inherit in our country right now, caution is common sense. Caution is the truth. Caution is honesty, not fear."

Ms Reeves starts by telling the crowd about her connections to Wales and the family she has living in the country.

She says: "I love Wales (..) but I know that, to really prosper, Wales needs to change."

Ms Reeves says Labour has a costed plan for Wales, unlike the Conservatives who "disrespect devolution and disregards Welsh interest".

She says that Britain, and Wales, faces a "simple choice" in less than two weeks.

"[You face] five more years of Tory chaos and the decline it brings or a changed Labour Party, restoring stability and fighting every day for the interests of working people," she says.

Shadow secretary of state for Wales Jo Stevens follows, telling those in attendance that the foundation of Welsh Labour's offer to voters "is a changed relationship between Wales and Westminster".

She says: "We'll enhance protection for Welsh devolution, so no UK government can ride roughshod over it in the way that the Conservatives repeatedly have.

"We'll explore new powers over youth justice and probation, and decisions about structural funds spent in Wales will be made in Wales once again."

Ms Stevens also reaffirms Welsh Labour's commitment to the steel industry in Wales.

She says she will not allow Port Talbot Steelworks to close, avoiding the "decades of scarring" caused by the closure of Shotton steelworks in 1980.

Vaughan Gething then takes to the stage and speaks about the Llay Miners Welfare Institute building that Welsh Labour have launched their manifesto in this morning.

"The history of this building and the mining community that it once served, goes to the very core of the promise being made to the people of Wales today," he says.

"The institute was built through miners contributions. A penny a week. A proud community investing in their future."

Mr Gething goes on to talk about Gwaith Tech, Welsh Labour's work plan for the country that, he says, "will help us to deliver better pay, protection and progression for Welsh workers to build on the best practices of our best businesses".

"And this is personal to me," Mr Gething adds. "As a shop steward and as a trade union lawyer, I've seen the damage that is done to people and to our nation's prosperity, to bad working cultures, unfair practice and discrimination."

There's also the announcement of a Hillsborough law, which Mr Gething says will "place a legal duty of candour on public servants and authorities" as well an ensuring legal aid for victims of disasters or state-related deaths.

A Windrush commissioner meanwhile "will mean meaningful change for people across Wales who've been denied the rights, the dignity and the respect that they deserve".

The First Minister ends by saying the phrase we've heard a few times already this morning: "Two Labour governments working for Wales, replacing rivalry with respect."

We're about to hear from Welsh Labour as they launch their manifesto.

We'll be hearing from Neil Kinnock, Rachel Reeves, Jo Stevens and Vaughan Gething.

Stay tuned for the latest updates from Wales.

An audience member from last night's Question Time election special has once again accused Rishi Sunak of putting words in her mouth.

Lateisha Holland drew praise on social media for standing up to the PM after his answer on whether the Conservatives would consider leaving the European Convention on Human Rights.

"You and I disagree on that," said Mr Sunak. "You think it's fine for people to come and they shouldn't be removed - that's your decision.

"I don't think that's right for our country and that's why I'm prepared to do what it takes it get this problem resolved."

Host Fiona Bruce then gave Ms Holland the chance to respond to the PM's claims.

She responded: "I said 'are you considering leaving the ECHR?'

"You're just putting words in my mouth there."

The Gambling Commission has said it is looking into allegations around bets made on the date of the election.

The commission is looking into Laura Saunders, the Conservative candidate for Bristol North West.

It comes after Rishi Sunak's close parliamentary aide Craig Williams, the Tory candidate for Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr, was revealed to have placed a bet on a July election date three days before it was announced.

And the prime minister's close protection officer has been arrested and suspended over alleged bets about the timing of the election.

There are strict rules around gambling, with the latest laws updated in the Gambling Act 2005.

Gamblers are not allowed to use inside information to place a bet or to instruct someone else to do so on their behalf.

They are also not allowed to pass inside information on to someone else which they use for betting.

Section 42 of the act deals with cheating and says a person commits an offence if they cheat at gambling or do "anything for the purpose of enabling or assisting another person to cheat at gambling".

It adds: "It is immaterial whether a person who cheats improves his changes of winning anything, or wins anything."

Someone found guilty of cheating can be imprisoned for a maximum of two years and/or fined, or six months in prison for a lesser offence.

Norman Phillips and his wife Ros – who lives with multiple sclerosis and dementia - are the human faces of the social care crisis.

Initially Norman was able to combine work with his caring responsibilities but as Ros's condition worsened, he took early retirement.

The couple found help hard to come by and after Norman suffered an injury, they were forced to sell their home to settle care-related debts.

Ros is now subject to an NHS continuing healthcare plan after Norman suffered a breakdown earlier this year and authorities decided he was unable to carry on caring for his wife.

This includes round the clock care for Ros – something Norman says wouldn't have been needed if a lower level of help had been made available earlier.

He said: "They've got six million of us unpaid carers. If they… help us, we can help the system.

"But what's happened to me, you know, is the system just kept backing away and backing away until I cracked."
