Absolute best hiking trips with wow adventure! My expectations were high, and each trip easily exceeded them. I’ve been traveling with wow adventures for 3 time now, and every time it’s only getting better. I absolutely love every destinantion we went. Arizona, Utah and California.

Alina and Lena immediately make you feel like old friends and made the full tour group feel comfortable and welcome, which is super important when you travel alone. Every time I felt like I travel with my best friends.

The hiking was a trip of a lifetime. The hikes were variable and perfectly designed to meet the needs of different levels of hikers. Breakfast, lunches, and dinner were super fun, easy going, and well thought out with good variety throughout the tour to keep everyone happy. I'm already looking forward to my next trip with them! No question I will be back. Thanks to Alina and Lena for making every trip a real “WOW adventure”.

Alina & Lena🌸 Thank you so much for such an active Tour in Yosemite National Park! I still can't believe that we climbed all the way to the top of Yosemite falls. After every tour I go with you, I am more motivated to be active and healthy. I also appreciate your tours for the people I meet on it! Everyone is young, active and so positive! I really like everything about Yosemite National Park tour. Starting from very organized airport pick up on the first day, to wine tasting on our last day. The hotel was great. It had all necessary amenities, but at the same time I knew that I was in the nature. Amazing views from the balcony and the sound of running river made me fall asleep instantly. Thank you for everything ❤️

The best part of travelling with WOW ADVENTURES is the variety of destinations they offer. Each tour is unique, with multiple exciting locations and challenging activities. The only thing that is the same is an excellent group selection. Everyone is active, very motivated and brings great energy to a group. WOW ADVENTURES choose activities for their tours that most tour companies don’t even think about. I jumped out of the plane, climbed a glacier in Alaska, skied the best resorts in the US, conquered multiple mountains all over the states with rewarding, breathtaking views at the end, and that’s only a few awesome things that WOW ADVENTURES inspired me to do. I will absolutely continue traveling and experience the World with WOW ADVENTURES!

We’re Alina and Elena, the founders of WOW Adventures, and we want to welcome you to the world of exciting adventure travel that we love and want to share with you.  We met in Turkey in 2010, where we discovered that we both have a passion for traveling the world and  experiencing different sports activities. After completing the New York City Marathon in 2018, we decided to pursue learning some extreme sports including surfing, skiing, hiking, and skydiving.  Our goal in starting WOW Adventures was to connect like minded adventurers.  Our tours are based on your not being a passive observer when you are visiting one of our destinations, but on your becoming part of the mountains, seas, or skies of the unique places we have included in our tours.  We invite you to join us and experience adventures that will challenge you, allow you to make new friends, and bring you memories that will last a lifetime.

The 2024 WOW List: 96 Top Local Fixers in Countries Worldwide

wow adventure tours

The WOW List is a collection of exceptionally knowledgeable and well-connected trip planners around the world. They have been rigorously road-tested, based on my decades of experience as a travel journalist and based on the latest trip reviews from travelers who used my WOW approach to ensure an extraordinary trip. In 2023 they quickly found solutions to the travel complications and disruption that arose: They rerouted travelers away from wildfires and floods, kept them cool and comfy amid extreme heat, helped them bypass unprecedented tourist crowds and lines, restored whole days of sightseeing missed because of flight cancellations, and lessened the impact of hotels’ sky-high prices, understaffing, and skimpflation. We know they did this because of your trip reviews . We continue to monitor trips and update The WOW List in real time.

HOW TO GET A WOW TRIP 1. Find the right local fixer for your needs below. 2. Click their CONTACT button and share the details of your dream trip via my questionnaire. 3. Done! The local expert will reach out to you directly and quickly.

START WITH MY QUESTIONNAIRE • That’s how you get VIP treatment and these WOW benefits . • It’s how the WOW Lister knows that I sent you and that you will be reviewing your trip. Your trip reviews determine who remains on The WOW List. • It’s the only way I can advise you and monitor your trip from the most important moment—the conception and initial design. • It’s the only way your trip will count toward a WOW Moment .

WOW TRIP COSTS AND STYLE What these local fixers do is custom-tailor a private itinerary exactly to your trip goals and travel style, get you special access to iconic sights, and mastermind all the trip logistics so that you don’t have to. Trips start at about $10K to $15K, depending on your destination and timing.

Japan Japanese society relies heavily on personal connections to unlock doors. Japan is also bracingly expensive, with many of the loveliest ryokans and guest houses costing upwards of $1,000 per night (although that does include an extravagant dinner). And because the number of savvy guides with exceptional access is limited, they can command high fees. If you are seeking the right bespoke trip-planning specialist who can deliver the best that Japan has to offer, we can point you toward your smartest options.

Yes, you can still travel to Cuba. Legally and privately. The Cuba experts we know have worked in the country for years and are well connected to artists, musicians, historians, TV personalities, and the best privately-owned boutique B&Bs, casas particulares , and paladares . They can have you learning the secrets of a perfect mojito from a local bartender, enjoying a night out at a pop-up jazz club, bird-watching on a day trip into the countryside, and strolling Havana with a former architect or journalist (who now earns more as a private guide).

The right expert can steer you to the most reliable ferry operators, ensure there’s a taxi to pick you up at the pier, even arrange for private boat rides to secret islands. There are hundreds of Greek islands to choose from, of course—each with its own unique character—and the right expert can design an itinerary with just the right combo of ancient history, modern culture, near-empty beaches, sleepy villages, pulsating nightlife, or whatever it is that you want most. Iceland Iceland has awesome landscapes and unusual adventure activities, from volcano diving to geothermal-pool hopping. But it is surprisingly expensive, and soaring tourism has caused demand—for accommodations, activities, all-terrain vehicles, glacier adventure guides, etc.—to outpace supply, driving prices even higher. What’s more, the country’s tourism infrastructure is geared to mass-market group tours. • New expedition teams representing all-druid teams of Zandalari Trolls and Kul Tirans.
  • Artifact Power gains from Normal, Heroic, Mythic and PvP Islands increased. Mythic Islands now reward 450 AP (was 350).

  • Invasions will always occur, even on high difficulties and while beating the enemy team by a lot.

Weekly Quest Changes and Treasure Maps

Getting started.

  • Alliance War Campaign Guide: Alliance War Campaign in Battle for Azeroth
  • Horde War Campaign Guide: Horde War Campaign in Battle for Azeroth

More About the Interface

  • Weekly Quest Progress: At the very top of the Expedition Map is a progress bar of your progress towards the quota of 36,000 Azerite. Once this bar fills you will receive the reward listed at the right of the bar. Any progress made towards the reward carries over to the next week until you earn the reward. Afterwards, on the weekly reset, the bar resets to 0 and the reward can be earned again.
  • Islands: The center of the Expedition Map will contain the names of the Islands you can visit this week along with a sketch of the map of the Island. Only 3 Islands are available in a given week.
  • Primary Enemy Type: Each Island picture will also have a sketch of a race such as a Saurok or Mogu. This picture means that enemy race will be encountered frequently while on that particular Island. This is consistant throughout the week.
  • Repeatable Base Reward: Mousing over the difficulties on the bottom of the Expedition Map will show you the minimal guaranteed reward for winning the Island Expedition on the selected difficulty.

More About the Difficulty Settings

  • No requirements after Introduction is complete.
  • May queue as 1-3 player party.
  • Race to collect 6000 Azerite.
  • 295 item level required.
  • Race to collect 9000 Azerite.
  • All Azerite gain increased by 50%.
  • 315 item level required.
  • Must queue as 3 player party.
  • Race to collect 12000 Azerite.
  • All Azerite gain increased by 100%.
  • PvP Talents Enabled
  • Race to collect 18000 Azerite.
  • All Azerite gain increased by 200%.

Core Mechanics

Understanding the map.

  • Killing any creature
  • Opening chests / Mining Azerite
  • Completing Bonus Objectives
  • Killing the other faction
  • Dread Chain
  • Whispering Reef
  • Skittering Hollow
  • Rotting Mire
  • Verdant Wilds
  • Ungol Ruins
  • Snowblossom Village
  • Common Creatures: Creatures such as crocolisks and spiders are found on almost every Island. There is no sure way to tell the existence of some of these creatures on the Island without encountering them first.
  • Island Theme Creatures: Some types of creatures only appear or appear more frequently on certain Islands. Under each Island name on the Expedition Map is a sketch of an enemy that will be found frequently on that Island. More details about the themes of enemies found on particular Islands can be found in our guide to each Island .
  • Invasion Event Creatures: These enemies can be rarely found on any Island, but are very different from most enemies you will encounter and completely ignore the theme of the Island. These types of NPCs usually appear due to special events that occur during an Island Expedition. creatures such as Dragons and Faceless are some of the types of enemies that work like this. For more detail about special events and invasions and what kind of creatures appear because of them visit our Random Events and Invasions Guide .

Mining Nodes, Chests and Satchels

Events and invasions, seafarer dubloons and unique consumables.

  • Seafarer's Dubloon items may no longer be used in PvP Island Expeditions. Developers’ notes: We're looking for ways to use Dubloons in the future, but for the time being, we do not feel that Dubloon use makes for a good experience in a PvP setting.

Other Faction Presence

Advanced npcs, player vs. player.

  • The bonus XP reward for completing a normal Island Expedition has been increased.
  • Weekly quest Azerite for the Horde or Azerite for the Alliance . 3500 Azerite .
  • Mysterious Treasure Map follower mission items obtained from completing the weekly quest.
  • Winning bonus (higher difficulties means bigger bonus). 450 Azerite on Mythic/PvP difficulty.
  • Rare quest items obtained from Island Expeditions wins. 750 Azerite per quest.

  • Follow the "X"-spots marked on the map. I recommend doing them in a set order, i.e. starting with the one nearest to the ship and then following outwards. If you completed the first 3 spots, new one's should appear. Follow them the same way.
  • While on the way to the "X"-spots, kill all mobs with a skull marked on the map.
  • If you encounter the opposing faction team, mark one and focus them one-by-one.
  • Do not waste your time with quests, as they take too long to complete.

Itinerary and Map +

Itinerary & map, the journey begins.

The Journey Begins

After leaving Inverness the first part of our route hugs the shores of Loch Ness. Whilst you enjoy the scenery (and of course keep your eyes trained on the loch!) your guide will fill you in on the story behind the legendary beast; Nessie.

As we venture further west the scenery becomes more dramatic; as the mist swirls you will feel that you have truly arrived in the Scottish Highlands. As the road winds between high hills, past dark lochans and through windswept glens your guide will fill you in on the tragic history of this area, and how this history led to the desolate landscapes that you see today.

After passing the 5 Sisters of Kintail – one of Scotland’s most recognisable mountain massifs – we will soon see Loch Duich, which heralds our welcome to Scotland’s wonderful west coast.

Highland Cows

Highland Cows

Highland cows have long vied with Nessie to be prized as Scotland’s most iconic creature. However, whilst we can only claim to have had the occasional Nessie sighting on this tour, thankfully these much-coveted coos are not quite as coy in front of cameras! On the vast majority of tours we will be able to stop and say hello to these much-loved hairy beasts.

Please note that we can never guarantee to see them, as sometimes farmers move their cattle to different fields, and seasonality plays a part in this too (we are less likely to see them in October).  Also, for anyone joining the tour in Drumnadrochit or Invermoriston, you will not get a chance to see them.

Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle is said to be one of the most photographed castles in the world, and justifiably so; the 13th Century fortification dominates the small tidal island it sits on, and is surrounded by majestic mountain scenery.

Aside from its presence on innumerable postcards and shortbread tins you may well recognise Eilean Donan from films including Highlander, James Bond – The World Is Not Enough and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a Bollywood classic.

We will spend around 15 minutes at a classic viewpoint across the water from the castle. Please note that there is not enough time to go into the castle – this is a photo stop only.

Portree

Set within a pretty natural harbour, and surrounded by rocky cliffs and rolling hills, Portree is a beautiful place to explore. With its quirky shops, cute cafes and interesting sights you will certainly find plenty to occupy you during our 30 – 40 minute stop here. Your guide will give you some top tips on the coach, and will also point you in the direction of the harbour viewpoint; from here you can admire the pretty pastel-coloured houses that the town is famous for.  Alternatively, you may wish to take a short hike up to the top of the Apothecary Tower, where you can enjoy stunning vistas of the area.

If you pre-ordered lunch from the Isle of Skye Baking Company at the start of the tour then your guide will pick it up here, and will deliver it to you back on the mini-coach. If you have not taken this option then you will want to use your time in Portree to grab some lunch. There are plenty of options in the town centre; from a local deli serving seafood rolls and home-made cakes to a traditional fish and chip shop and two Skye bakeries, you will definitely find something to suit you (but please note that Portree is very busy at lunchtime, so you may have to wait in line for quite a while!).

Old Man of Storr

Old Man of Storr

As we venture further north we enter a supernatural and dramatic landscape which was created by volcanic activity millions of years ago. A short photo stop at a loch-side viewpoint gives you a chance to admire the unique rock formation of the Old Man of Storr. This 50 metre high pinnacle juts out from the awe-inspiring Trotternish Ridge and will be widely recognised from feature films including Stardust, The Wicker Man, Prometheus and The BFG.

We spend around 10 minutes here, and may stop at a second viewpoint too (weather and time permitting).

Kilt Rock

It also boasts a waterfall that tumbles 60 metres (180 feet) into the Sound of Raasay below – a truly enthralling sight, and one made even more special when the wind blows the waterfall back up the cliff!

Trotternish

Trotternish

At around 2pm we will begin our journey back down Skye’s most northerly peninsula; the Trotternish. As you marvel at the majestic scenery from a completely different angle, your guide will fill you in on its 190 million year old stones, Jurassic fossils, dinosaur footprints and giant lava blocks, which have led to this area being referred to as Skye’s, “Theatre of Geology”.

Whilst the Fairy Pools have become one of Skye’s most popular sights in recent years, we feel strongly that a trip to the island is incomplete without seeing the incredible scenery of the Trotternish Peninsula. As we journey back down south we are sure that you will now agree with us!

Fairy Pools

Fairy Pools

The Fairy Pools are a series of beautiful rock pools and waterfalls which are famed for their crystal clear blue waters, and their stunning Cuillin mountain backdrop.  We will spend around 75 – 90 minutes here, to give you plenty of time to enjoy this wonderful sight.

The scenic walk to the first pool takes around 20 minutes (distance is 0.7 miles) and the most impressive waterfall is 5 minutes further on (0.9 miles total).  Most guests spend their time around this area, admiring the crystal clear waters of the pools and their gushing waterfalls. Photo opportunities abound!

For those keen to get off-the-beaten-track and take some stunning photos you can venture on up the path to the other pools further upstream – by walking another 15 – 20 minutes (0.6 miles) you will pretty much have the path to yourself.

Please be aware that the walk to the Fairy Pools and back is a total of around 1.5 miles and will take around 40 minutes, so you do require a moderate level of fitness for this part of the tour.

For those who do not feel fit enough to embark on this hike at the Fairy Pools you are still more than welcome to come on the tour. Speak to your guide and he will be happy to take you on a 5 minute drive to the lesser-known secret fairy pools instead – this sight is equally as special but quieter and more easily accessible, with no walking required.

The Journey Home

The Journey Home

After so many world-class sights ticked off your list today, you will have an hour or so to sit back, relax and take in the scenery and stories before our final stop.

We will drive along the shores of Loch Duich before reaching Glen Shiel, site of the legendary Battle of Glenshiel. This battle is notable as, during the 1719 Jacobite uprising, it was the only one to be effectively ended by the Government. Your guide will also explain about a more unusual aspect of the battle; the involvement of both the Spanish and the Dutch. There are various interesting Jacobite military sights which will be pointed out along the way.

As we pass Loch Cluanie keep an eye out for the historic bridge and buildings which have been submerged since the damming of the loch in 1957 – you can catch glimpses of these when the water level is very low.

Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle

Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle

Towards the end of our action-packed journey we will travel back along the shores of Loch Ness. This time, we will stop at the castle we admired in the morning (it will seem like a lifetime ago after today’s epic adventure!). Urquhart Castle is best viewed from above for wonderful views of the medieval ruins, which sit upon a stubby peninsula jutting out into the inky waters of the mysterious loch.

We are confident that you will return to Inverness with memories to last a lifetime, and having fallen in love with the place we feel so lucky to call home.

Please use the map to see where your closest pick-up location is. There is also a list below the map. If you are unsure please just ask!

  • Union Street in Inverness city centre (main pick up point)
  • Tomnahurich Street (select for Premier Inn Inverness Centre River Ness, Columba Hotel, Best Western The Palace, Strathness House, Coo’s Guest House and B&Bs on Ardross Street)

PICK-UP IN GREAT GLEN AREA

We can offer pick-up and drop-off  from Drumnadrochit  and Invermoriston.  Please select the option you would like when booking.

Unless stated above, there is no extra charge for pick-up or drop-off at any of the listed hotels or villages.  We want to make your entire day as enjoyable and stress-free as possible!

Got baggage? It’s no problem to take it with you. We have a very large boot/trunk!  Please just note what bags you have when you book, in the special requests section.

Why should we choose WOW to take us to Skye? +

There are a number of companies in Inverness offering tours to Skye, and we appreciate that it can be difficult to decide which company to use.  We wanted to summarise the main benefits of coming on our tour, so that you can make the best choice for your group.  So..here goes…

  • First and foremost, we have the most comprehensive tour itinerary available from Inverness; our tour is the only one to include all of the sights in Northern Skye (Portree, Trotternish Peninsula, Old Man of Storr and Cuillin Mountains) as well as giving you the opportunity to hike to the Fairy Pools , and see Eilean Donan Castle and Loch Ness/Urquhart Castle en-route.  It truly is the ultimate tour of Skye!
  • We are the only company offering a seat reservation system for our front row (plus second row and extra legroom) seats so, if taking uninterrupted photos is important to you, this will be a great benefit.
  • We are the only company offering convenient pick up and drop off at two city locations , ensuring that your day is as relaxed and enjoyable as possible
  • We are the only company offering free pick-up and drop-off in Drumnadrochit and Invermoriston (for Fort William) giving you the flexibility to stay wherever suits you best.
  • We have the smartest and most comfortable tour vehicle (ok, this is partly subjective, but we are pretty confident!)
  • We are the only local company offering coach tours to Skye from Inverness (we operate from Tomatin, 20 miles south of Inverness, and the company owner is an Invernessian born and bred!).  We think that this is important, as it means that the money you pay for your ticket goes back into the local economy.
  • Skye has a fragile economy, which is very dependent on tourism, and we want to ensure that the local community see the benefit of our tours.  Consequently, we work with fantastic local suppliers on all of our tours.
  • We are the only company to offer a lunch pre-ordering service on the tour – we work with the Isle of Skye Baking Company in Portree to offer this self-service option, in order to save your sightseeing time
  • We have been awarded 5 Star Tour status by our national tourism organisation, Visit Scotland, for the last eight years, which means that they have rated our tours as “exceptional”
  • We have over 22 00 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor and are the top-rated tour company in Inverness out of over 130 (around 700 of these reviews are specifically for our Skye tours – that’s a lot of very happy customers!)

We very much hope that you will choose to come with us to Skye, and are looking forward to meeting you, and showing you the best the island has to offer, very soon!

Why should I book this Skye tour direct? +

We sell our tours through a number of online agents.  However, we would strongly encourage you to book directly on our own website, for the following reasons;

  • Convenient pick-up and drop-off If you book direct we offer pick-up and drop-off from two convenient locations in central Inverness!  We do this in order to make your day as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
  • Seat upgrade options By booking direct you can purchase optional front row, second row and extra legroom upgrades.  So, if unparalleled views or the ability to stretch out are important to you, be sure to book direct and take advantage of this option.
  • The best seats All of the seats on our vehicles are comfortable with great views.  However, customers who book direct will be given preferential seating.
  • Excellent customer service We are a small family-run business, and we are always on hand to give you quick and accurate responses to your queries or requests, either by phone or email.  If you require to change or cancel your booking, or want to switch to another tour, we will do this quickly and easily, and will be as flexible as we possibly can in response to your requests.  It is our business, and we really care about ensuring that every one of our guests has an excellent experience, from the minute you land on our website, right through to dropping you off back at your hotel.
  • Support the Highlands If you book with an agent 25% of the ticket price goes to an international corporation.  That means that 25% less money is flowing into the fragile economy of the Scottish Highlands.  Please support our small local business by coming to us direct.

We very much look forward to showing you the Highlands!

What times does the Skye tour start and finish? +

This tour departs from Union Street (in Inverness city centre) at 8.15am. Please ensure that you are ready to board the bus at 8.05am as we will leave promptly at 8.15am (0815), and are unable to wait for any latecomers, and it is not possible to catch up with the tour.  The tour will return to Inverness city centre at approximately 8.15pm (2015). It is possible that we may return a bit later than this, although we always try to keep to our schedule as much as possible.

We also offer a few other pick up locations.  These will be available to select when booking, with a specific pick-up time and place provided in your email confirmation.

Where is the pick-up point in Inverness? +

Our main departure point is at 15 Union Street in Inverness city centre. Look out for the kilted WOW guide and WOW-branded coach and you won’t miss us!

When you book you will be given the option to book from a few other pick up locations, as an alternative to the bus station.  Further details on these pick ups are provided in the next FAQ, and precise timing information will be provided in your booking confirmation email.

Can I join the tour anywhere else? +

Yes, as a thank you for booking direct, via our own website, we are delighted to be able to offer you the following alternative pick ups:

  • Tomnahurich Street (for Columba Hotel , Palace Hotel, S trathness House, Premier Inn (Inverness Centre) Huntly Street, Coo’s Guest House , Ardross Street B&Bs,  Aye Stay B&B ,  Lairds Lodge  and B&Bs on Glenurquhart Road, Ballifeary Road and Bruce Gardens ) (8.20am)
  • Drumnadrochit (8.45am) – see information on our Ultimate Isle of Skye Tour from Drumnadrochit page
  • Invermoriston (9.15am) – see information on our Ultimate Isle of Skye Tour from Invermoriston/Fort William/Fort Augustus page

Please just select your preferred location when booking and we will collect you there in the morning, and drop you off again in the evening.

Timings above are approximate and are subject to change – more precise timings will be provided on your booking confirmation email.

What is the difference between your standard and flex tickets? +

On all standard and group rate tickets for our Ultimate Isle of Skye Tour you can cancel your tour and get a 100% refund up to 48 hours prior to the tour start time (with the exception of any seat upgrade fees, which are non refundable).

For those who wish to have increased flexibility we also offer a flex ticket, which enables you to cancel your tour and get a 100% refund up to 24 hours prior to the start time (with the exception of any seat upgrade fees, which are non refundable).

Can I reserve seats on the tour? +

Firstly, it is worth mentioning that all seats offer great views and plenty of legroom. However, many guests have seating preferences so, in response to this, we give you the opportunity, on our Ultimate Isle of Skye Tour and our Invergordon shore tours, to book the following chargeable upgrades;

  • 4 front row seats – these seats give you unparalleled views out of the front windows, and the opportunity to disembark first at every stop.  They are, justifiably, our most popular seats.
  • 4 second row seats – many guests prefer to sit near the front of the coach, or be reassured that you will be seated together if they are a couple/group, both of which you get with this option.  These seats also have a little more legroom than the front row seats.
  • 2 extra legroom seats – these are situated near the back of the coach and have approximately 20% more legroom than regular seats.  They are particularly suited to those who are tall, or like to stretch out.

The price of the upgrades vary depending on the option and tour selected, with prices between £5 and £20 per person (note that any fees paid for seat upgrades are non-refundable if you cancel your tour).  If they are available, upgrades will be given as an option when booking.  Please note that it does not make any difference which side of the coach you sit on, so we don’t take requests for specific sides.

The rest of our seating is allocated upon arrival (unless the tour is fully booked, in which case we compile a seating plan in advance, to ensure that couples/groups can be seated together). If you are unhappy with your seat please let your tour guide know and he will do his best to accommodate your requests, although obviously many guests would prefer a window seat so it is not possible for everyone to have these!

The opportunity to purchase seat upgrades is a definite advantage of booking with us directly, through our own website.  These upgrades are not available if our tour is booked through online agents.

Please note that seat upgrades are not currently available on our Skye Explorer Hiking Tour. The reason for this is because we have less time on the coach and use a smaller 16-seater vehicle for this tour. Consequently, seat position is not as crucial, and we try to seat guests logically, according to group composition (we have four single window seats, four double window seats and four seats together at the back).

What sort of vehicle do you use? +

For our Ultimate Isle of Skye Tour we generally use one of our two 33-seater mini-coaches, both of which were built to our precise specifications, to ensure the highest levels of passenger comfort. They are very well-appointed with panoramic windows, comfortable reclining seats and USB ports under every seat. You can rest assured that you will be able to relax and enjoy the majestic scenery in complete comfort. You can read more about our coaches here.

On occasion we may use our smaller, 16-seater executive mini-coach.  It offers all of the same features as described above, but also boasts a panoramic glass roof, for that extra special view!

How often are bathroom/toilet stops? +

There are five main stops where toilets/bathrooms can be accessed (timings are for our 0815 departures and can vary slightly but this gives you a very good indication of time between comfort breaks).

  • 8.50am (Drumnadrochit)
  • 10.00am (Eilean Donan Castle)
  • 11.15 – 12pm (Portree)
  • 2.40pm (Portree)
  • 3.30 – 5pm (Fairy Pools)
  • 6pm (Eilean Donan Castle)
  • 8pm (if required, Drumnadrochit)

Outside of these times it may be possible to make unscheduled bathroom stops – please just ask your driver guide to see what they can do for you, as the last thing we ever want is for our passengers is to be uncomfortable.

Will we be stopping for coffee/snacks enroute? +

We would recommend that you purchase your lunch and any snacks in Portree at 11.15am (you have approximately 40 minutes here and there are a number of cafes, bakeries and shops).  This is the one and only opportunity on the tour to purchase food and drink on the tour, due to the lack of any shops/cafes on our route.  Consequently, we would also recommend that you bring some light snacks and drinks with you on the coach, in order to keep your energy up for the adventure!

Where will we get lunch & dinner? +

We are delighted to be working with our friends at The Isle of Skye Baking Company in Portree to offer a delicious packed lunch option.  At the start of the tour you will be given access to a menu with QR code.  By scanning this QR code or visiting the website you can order and pay for a lunch, which your driver guide will collect in Portree, and deliver to you upon your return to the mini-coach there.

We offer this service to enable you to save time, and focus on seeing the sights of Portree.  If you do not wish to take this option you are welcome to bring your own food with you, or pick something up during our 40 minutes in Portree.  Please note that there is definitely not time for a sit-down lunch in Portree.

The Isle of Skye Baking Company offers a lunch package especially for WOW guests.  This consists of a filled bread (e.g. Scottish cheddar and pan-fried leeks or) or quiche (e.g. bacon & leek or panfried mushroom & roast aubergine), two mini cakes and a shortbread. The price of the lunch package is £9.75pp.

In addition, you can order add-on items including side salads (£4), delicious cakes such as sticky toffee pudding cake or coffee and walnut cake (£4) , various scones (£3.50) and cold drinks (£2).  All of these items are made on the premises and their exclusive WOW menu changes on a daily basis.  They also offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.  They also sell some lovely edible souvenirs, which you can add to your order!

We are delighted to support this wonderful local business who, like ourselves, pride themselves in providing excellent products and service to their customers.

The tour returns to Inverness city centre at around 8.15pm.  For dinner we would recommend booking a table in Inverness and we will send you a list of a few of our favourites a few days prior to the tour.

What should I wear on this tour? +

On this tour you spend approximately 1 1/4 hours at the Fairy Pools;  the location is windy and exposed, with absolutely no shelter from the elements, so it is imperative that you are appropriately dressed for this.  We really cannot stress this enough – if you are soaking wet you will struggle to enjoy the rest of the day.  As we say in Scotland, “there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing”!

We would strongly recommend wearing hiking boots with ankle support (as a minimum you will need sturdy comfortable trainers/sneakers) as the path is often muddy and slippery. We would also strongly recommend bringing a waterproof jacket, and ideally waterproof trousers/pants too (note that umbrellas are not appropriate on Skye – they just blow inside out and are rendered useless very quickly).  In addition to these essentials we would suggest wearing layers, including a thick sweater/fleece option, and bringing a hat and gloves and warm jacket in your bag.

Even if the sun is shining brightly when you leave Inverness, they do say that you only really experience Scotland when you see four seasons in one day, so please be prepared!

You can read our blog here for further details about what we recommend bringing/wearing on this tour.

How much time will we spend on the coach on the Skye tour? +

This is a 12 hour tour which covers all of the most popular sights, both en-route to and on the Isle of Skye. Although there is approximately 7 1/2 hours of driving involved the scenery along the way is stunning, and of course the commentary will keep you informed and entertained, so the time onboard will fly by! The tour also incorporates around 4 1/2 hours of stops so there is plenty of time to get out and explore!

How much walking is involved? +

The stop where we spend most time on this tour is at the Fairy Pools.  The walk from the coach park to the pools is uphill on a rough path.  To get to the first pool will take a fit person around 15 – 20 minutes and the distance is 0.7 miles.  To then walk on to the last of the pools is a further 0.3 miles and will take around 10 minutes (this is entirely optional as you can enjoy the beauty of the pools from the first vantage point).  In total a fit person will walk the 1.5 miles there and back in around 40 minutes, and will have around 35-50 minutes to enjoy at the pools themselves.

You can choose to go for a walk in Portree but there is no requirement to do any walk other than at the Fairy Pools (even at the pools your guide can take you to an alternative natural sight nearby, but please note that there are no other activities, shops or things to see at the Fairy Pools).

What if the weather is bad? +

In the summer of 2023 bridges were built at the Fairy Pools, in order to enable access to the pools, whatever the weather.  (Previously, stepping stones had to be used to cross the streams and, if the stones were submerged, it was not possible to cross). The being said, if it is very rainy and windy the Fairy Pools is really not a pleasant experience, as you cannot see the views, the water will not be the brilliant blue the pools are famous for and, most importantly, there is no shelter, so you are likely to get completely soaked.  This makes for a really unpleasant experience, if you have to spend the next six hours feeling damp!  Consequently, if the weather is bad we may decide that it would be advantageous to visit another sight instead.  We really only do this if we have to, as we know many people book this tour primarily to visit this top sight.

On this tour in general we will do our best to tailor our itinerary to the weather conditions.  Whilst it is not always possible to avoid the rain, we can adjust our timings to try and ensure that we visit the most exposed sights at the least rainy times.

Can I swim in the pools? +

First and foremost; we would not encourage you to swim in the pools.  However, if you are considering it please bear the following in mind;

We cannot stress enough how cold the water is – it might look enticing but, even in the height of summer, it is estimated to be around 4-6oC (42oF) which is colder than the (notoriously chilly) North Sea!!

Open water swimming is inherently dangerous and should only be attempted by very confident swimmers

There is nowhere to change, which is fine if you put your swimming stuff on under your clothes, but perhaps not as fine when you come out desperate to get some warm clothes on,  but everyone is looking and pointing at the crazy person who has just been swimming!

If you do decide that you still wish to swim in the pools, you should bring a towel and swimming costume.

Swimming in the pools is done entirely at your own risk.

Can we visit Talisker? +

In a word, no. We do not visit Talisker Distillery on any of our scheduled or private tours, as it often gets exceptionally busy there and, as such, we are unable to guarantee the quality of the experience offered.

Can we book a private tour instead? +

Yes – we’d be delighted to offer you a private tour! These are suited to groups of 8+, as the smallest vehicle we have is a luxury 16-seater mini-coach. Please contact us for details of availability and pricing.

Can wheelchair/walking frame users come on the Skye tour? +

Unfortunately not all of the stops offer wheelchair access, as a lot of the terrain on Skye is very rugged. Also, the coach is not equipped for passengers to remain in their wheelchairs.  That being said, if you are able to get out of your wheelchair at the coach steps and walk onto the coach, there is no reason why you could not enjoy the tour from the comfort of the coach and we will make every effort to accommodate those with mobility problems.

Can children come on this tour? +

We welcome children over the age of six on our tour.

It should be noted that approximately 60-70% of the day is spent on the coach, so it may be an idea to bring some toys, games and snacks with you.  Unfortunately, due to the duration of the tour and time on the coach, we do not feel that this tour is appropriate for children under the age of six, so the tour is not open to this age group. This is for the comfort of other passengers and also to ensure that the driver guide can focus on doing their jobs without any distractions.

UK law states that each passenger must have their own seat and use their seatbelt at all times. Consequently, it is not possible to take a child on your lap. From experience we know that, very occasionally, parents try to bring children on without purchasing a seat. However, we would like to make it clear that this is not allowed and there will be no refund if you are refused entry to the tour for taking children under 6 or those whom you haven’t booked.

Can I be dropped off in Skye after the tour? +

Yes!  If you would like to spend a few days in Skye we are happy to drop you off there, so that you can continue your trip independently.  In order to see as much as possible of Skye on the tour we’d recommend dropping you off in Sligachan, Broadford or Kyleakin at the end of the day.  However, if you would like to be dropped off somewhere else please contact us and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request (although please note that we cannot drop you off in Portree, as we do not return there at the end of the day).

If you are dropped off in Skye you will most likely miss the photo stops at Eilean Donan Castle and Urquhart Castle/Loch Ness.

Adventure Guide Df

Adventure Guide as of Dragonflight .

The Adventure Guide , also known as the Adventure Journal , was introduced in patch 4.2.0 as the Dungeon Journal but later revamped in patch 6.2.0 . It lists the phases, abilities, and loot of bosses for raid instances , outdoor raids , dungeons , and suggests content at your current level. Notably, the guide does not directly specify tactics to overcome the abilities, leaving the players to figure out the encounter strategy on their own. Each expansion has its own background color.

The Adventure Guide unlocks once the player reaches reached level 11.

ACTIVE/ADVENTURE TRAVEL

LYRA_exterior.jpeg

This has become a very popular travel experience! Arriving at a port where you can walk into the town, return for lunch and walk back off again. Or take a small escorted excursion for part of the day. Or use a bicycle to explore the local countryside. If exploring small cities by venturing off the ship to see historical and culturally oriented spots are your choice, this is a great travel experience. You have many options on a river cruise for exploration. Additionally, your dining times on the ship are open and there are several venues from which to choose. The cabins are spacious and provide a lovely river view experience when you are not on the top deck enjoying a panoramic view. Many sailing provide activities indicative of the area being visited – Castles on the Rhine, music experiences on the Danube, wine tasting in Bordeaux, historical sites in Normandy, Tulip time in Denmark, Safaris in Africa, cultural exploration in Asia! And the list continues! Also, be sure to enjoy a few day before and after your cruise to submerge you even more in the local flavor.  Call or Email us at 1-717-440-4417 or [email protected]

Experiencia inolvidable

I left my heart in Oaxaca!!!

Being from Hawaii, we are the embodiment of the Aloha spirit. Aloha is all encompassing and a “Feeling” you get that is inexplainable. In Oaxaca, I felt that! I truly felt it. Thanks to Alex, we really were able to experience just why the people of Oaxaca love their home so much. Alex was very knowledgeable about his homelands history, culinary traditions as well as the awe inspiring landmarks and artisans. We will most definitely be back to visit. I had an amazing time. Thank you Alex, you are a Gem 💎!

Wonderful experience with Alex

Alex gave us a wonderful experience of just a few of the villages outside Oaxaca! His knowledge of the culture of its people was enlightening. We visited a marvelous alebrije studio, an inspirational red clay potter and of course a studio of barro negro. We will definitely book with Alex again!!

Best chofer/taxi service

We used their services for the whole trip and they’re great. They even took us to puerto escondido. 100% recommend.

Great time in Oaxaca

Luis and his team drove us to great places in Oaxaca City and the surrounding área.

We visited artisan workshops and great out of the way restaurants.

We chose not to visit arqueológical sites because We did not have enough time…

Luis and his team know alot about the place and culture and they shared with us openly…

They are very safe drivers…

Luis.and his team made a memorable triple even better!!!

Muy profesionales, super buen guia!! Carlos y Cesar son super serviciales!!!! Nos lo han contado todo fenomenal y nos han aclarado todas las dudas. GRACIAS!!!! Repetiremos!!!!!

Unforgettable experiences

Alex was so knowledgeable and clearly enjoys his job. He speaks perfect English, which my parents appreciated as they aren’t fluent Spanish speakers. He had an answer for every question and was eager to share all of the magic of Oaxaca with our group. He was flexible with our plans as we had several small children with us, and was able to deliver on the experiences we didn’t want to miss, while still appeasing all of the age groups we had on board! We got his contact for the next time we’re in Oaxaca- can’t wait to get back! Highly recommend 🙂

Great trip to Oaxaca

Perfect day, Adolfo did a great job in helping me find new treasures for the home!

Had a great time with Ismael

Ismael was professional, polite and made our stay in oaxaca something that we will never forget.

Thank you Ismael and hope to see you soon

Alex was amazing - WOW!!!

We booked Alex Alex for a tour of Hierve El Agua, Mitla, El Tule, and Monte Alban and we learned all about the culture and ancient history of the Zapotecs. The tour included stops to learn how fabric is made, dyed, and woven, and the art of making mezcal. Alex was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating. I highly recommend Alex and would definitely book him again. Gracias Alex!!

Excelente servicio

Excelente servicio Ismael y Adolfo, muy puntuales y serviciales!

Recomendado 100%

Amazing day

Ismael picked us on time !!! The van was supreme , super clean , super comfortable . We went to hierve el agua and the day was perfect !!! Ismael is also a super good driver !!!!

Exploring Pottery with Edgar

We had a delightful time visiting many pottery shops and villages with our guide Edgar. He was knowledgeable about where to find my particular items I was looking for. Edgar was really fun to spend time with and both my daughter and I will book him in the future.

Absolutely wonderful experience!

Alex was our guide and driver for 4 days in the Oaxaca City area, and he could not have been any better. He was always punctual, is an excellent driver, and was super responsive to messages, but he was so much more – he is exceptionally well-informed and knowledgable about the area, history, and culture; he is generous in sharing; he pays close attention to what you’re interested in; he’s flexible and responsive; and he’s kind and considerate. He took us a few spots that were off the beaten path, which were really special. Also, his English is outstanding. We’ve traveled all over the world and had many guides, and Alex stands out as exceptional. Our trip was so much more meaningful because of the role that Alex played. We had friends who had been in Oaxaca who recommended Alex, (who had also had a great experience with him) and we’re so glad we took their advice. We can’t wait to return to Oaxaca and we’ll definitely be asking Alex to guide us.

Amazing Day!

Ismael was a wonderful guide. We saw a ton of sites (Hierve el Agua, Mitla, and more) got to try his favorite Barbacoa at a local market, and learned a lot from him as we traveled around. Thanks for everything – would defiiitely recommend this to everyone visiting Oaxaca!

Perfect! All the best!

Kind, professional, punctual. Very positive experience

Fantastic City tour with Apolo

This morning I did a fantastic City tour with Apolo. He was able to give me incredible historic insights into the city. We saw the cathedrals and we visited two museums. He was super friendly, and his English is fantastic.

Ismael is the best!

Ismael provided my wife and me with an excellent experience during our stay in Oaxaca.

He was friendly, knowledgeable and went out of his way to look after us while touring us around the beautiful sites.

If you want a tailored and truly local insight into the history and culture of the city and surrounding area , Ismael is your man! He felt more like a friend than a guide by the end of our day together.

This was a true highlight of our honeymoon. Muchos gracias Ismael!!

Experiencia Inolvidable

Fantastic Experience to Mitlan and Hierve El Agua with Alex!

A fantastic day seeing the sights Oaxaca has to offer with Alex. Very knowledgeable, punctual, fun and keen to help you in anyway he can. I highly recommend using Wow Oaxaca!

The best experience!

We had such a lovely time seeing Hierve el Agua and Mitla with Alex! He is extremely knowledgeable and fun to be around. The tour was both educational and fun— I learned a lot and tasted multiple types of mezcal before 10 am!! I’d recommend this tour company to anyone visiting Oaxaca.

Ismael is now our good friend! We trust him to show us a wonderful time and keep us safe.

Ismael is very intuitive! He asked us where we wanted to go and derived our aesthetics and quality level through conversation during the drive. His knowledge of the cultural, the art and artists practicing authentic and cultural significant works was exceptional. He didn’t always take us to the most famous workshops but rather the studio doing the most exciting, ethically responsible, and skillful artists… and reasonably priced. We did a lot of damage. He was amenable to our whim and make alternative plans… always enthusiastically.

Oh and his knowledge of insanely delicious restaurants always ended our joyous trip.

Excellent Service to and around Oaxaca and Beyond

We have used Luis’s services for nearly four years. He, Ismael, and the rest of the team are prompt, courteous, and most importantly, excellent drivers. They recommend terrific off-the-beaten-path tallers and restaurants, and are accommodating with requests. When we want our guests to have a good experience here, we call Luis!

A lot of fun!

Ismael was very friendly and accommodating, and helped us decide whatever we needed to based on our choices. Conversation with him was fun as we drove to the different places in the tour. He even translated for us at the textile workshop as we were waiting for the translator to come!

Ismael is an superb guide for every adventure you might be looking for in Oaxaca

Every time my wife and I visit Oaxaca we always reach out to Ismael to see if he is available. He is more than just a tour guide, he has an abundance of knowledge, connections, and will go the extra mile to make sure you have a great experience. He has shown my wife and I around the amazing artwork, restaurants, pre-hispanic architecture, and many mezcalerias. On our most recent visit, he helped coordinate a full day tour for group of 40 people who came to Oaxaca for a wedding. He has a great attitude and sense of humor, I cannot recommend him enough!

Enjoy the Westfjords on a guided bike tour. Our bike tour is great for those who want a more intimate experience exploring unspoiled nature. Seeing the incredible sights of the Southern Westfjords on a bike will be an unforgettable experience that is fun, active and safe.

We offer a wide variety of exciting trips available from our office in Patreksfjörður. You can also rent a bike and travel on your own.

  The Wow tour

Rauðasandur is the Westfjord’s most famous beach with its red tinted sand bordered by black cliffs and the blue sea. Rauðasandur’s tranquility, and the local guides knowledge of the best panoramic views, will make for great memories.

The cycling portion of the tour will begin at our office at Þórsgötu 8a, 450 Patreksfjörður. From there we will cycle to the bottom of the fjord where we´ll make a stop to enjoy the surrounding landscape and birdlife, see the steel ship Garðar and hear some of the ship’s history.

From the bottom of the fjord we’ll head uphill, over Skersfjall mountain, down hairpin curves and be rewarded with an amazing view – definitely a WOW moment!

The French Cafe at Rauðasandur welcomes us with a cup of chocolate or a cup of coffee and a traditional Icelandic waffle. Enjoying the view from the terrace overlooking the sand.

After resting up you can choose to either bike back up the steep hill (and get a good exercise) OR our car can take you back to Patreksfjörður where you can visit our local swimming pool and relax in the hot tub with an amazing view over the fjord.
