Toyota Cars w/ Adaptive Cruise Control (19 Popular Models)

Once only seen on luxury vehicles, adaptive cruise control has become standard in many models, including Toyotas.

The following Toyota cars, SUVs, trucks, and minivans have adaptive cruise control.

Check the corresponding tables to see the relevant model years when the system is available.

Adaptive Cruise Control vs. Cruise Control

The first iteration of the more-basic cruise control system in older Toyota models helps the vehicle maintain a steady speed, ideal for highway cruising.

Adaptive cruise control (ACC) enhances the conventional system by adjusting the car’s speed to match the vehicle in front, especially when the latter slows down.

When the vehicle ahead changes lanes or accelerates, the ACC will return your car to the speed you set.

Newer Toyotas have Toyota Safety Sense, a bundle of active safety features which include dynamic radar cruise control.

The following rival makes also have popular models with ACC:

Toyota Cars with Adaptive Cruise Control

#1 toyota corolla.

Toyota Corolla has had standard adaptive cruise control in the eleventh generation’s final three models (2017 to 2019) and the twelfth generation (2020 to present).

2009 to 2016 Toyota Corolla models only had cruise control in the higher trims, while 2008 and earlier ones had the feature as optional equipment.

#2 Toyota Yaris

The discontinued Toyota Yaris had cruise control as standard in 2019 and 2020; the 2012 to 2018 models only had the system in the higher trims.

Used car shoppers eyeing a 2010 or 2011 Toyota Yaris need to know that cruise control was optional in both model years.

2009 and earlier Toyota Yaris did not have any cruise control system.

#3 Toyota Camry & Toyota Camry Hybrid

The midsize Toyota Camry has had adaptive cruise control as a standard provision since 2018.

2001 to 2017 models had conventional cruise control, while Toyota Camry sedans before that did not have the system.

Toyota Camry Hybrids have had the cruise control system as standard since 2007 and adaptive cruise control since 2018.

#4 Toyota Avalon & Avalon Hybrid

Adaptive cruise control has been standard equipment in the Toyota Avalon since 2017; Avalons before that only had basic cruise control.

Like the gasoline-only model, the Avalon Hybrid has had cruise control as standard since its 2013 debut, although 2017 saw the model adopting the enhanced adaptive cruise control.

#5 Toyota Mirai

The hydrogen fuel cell Toyota Mirai has had adaptive cruise control as standard since 2018.

#6 Toyota Prius & Prius Prime

The leader in hybrid technology, Toyota Prius, adopted the adaptive cruise control system as standard in 2017 and has maintained it since.

Toyota Prius hatchbacks from 2004 to 2016 had the conventional cruise control.

The plug-in hybrid, Toyota Prius Prime, has had the adaptive cruise control system as standard since its 2017 debut.

All Toyota GR Supra coupes (introduced in 2020) have standard cruise control.

#8 Toyota GR86

All Toyota GR86 coupes (introduced in 2022) have the cruise control system as standard.

Toyota SUVs with Adaptive Cruise Control

#9 toyota c-hr.

Adaptive cruise control has been standard in every Toyota C-HR subcompact since the model’s 2018 debut.

#10 Toyota Corolla Cross

Adaptive cruise control is standard in all Toyota Corolla Cross models.

#11 Toyota RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid & RAV4 Prime

Toyota RAV4, one of the best-selling compact SUVs, has had adaptive cruise control as standard since 2017.

Toyota RAV4 SUVs from 2004 to 2016 had the conventional cruise control, while those prior to that did not have the system.

Adaptive cruise control has been standard in the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid from 2017 onwards.

All Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrids have the adaptive cruise control system as standard since its 2021 introduction.

#12 Toyota Venza

The midsize Toyota Venza SUV has had adaptive cruise control as standard since its re-introduction in 2021.

Older Toyota Venza models before 2016 had the more-basic cruise control instead.

#13 Toyota Highlander & Highlander Hybrid

The three-row midsize Toyota Highlander had adaptive cruise control in 2017 and onwards.

Older Toyota Highlanders before 2017 (down to 2001) had the conventional cruise control.

Toyota Highlander Hybrids follow the regular model’s provision: adaptive cruise control from 2017 and cruise control in previous models.

#14 Toyota 4Runner

The off-road capable Toyota 4Runner had had adaptive cruise control as standard since 2020, while models before that had conventional cruise control.

#15 Toyota Sequoia

Adaptive cruise control (ACC) has been standard in all Toyota Sequoia models since 2018, and prior models had the more-basic cruise control.

Toyota Trucks with Adaptive Cruise Control

#16 toyota tacoma.

The rugged Toyota Tacoma has had adaptive cruise control as standard since 2018, including the SR, SR5, and TRD.

Although the adaptive type wasn’t available in the 2015 to 2017 Toyota Tacoma, the upper trims still had basic cruise control.

#17 Toyota Tundra

Toyota Tundra is the Japanese automaker’s full-size pickup truck and has had adaptive cruise control since 2018.

From 2001 to 2017, Toyota Tundras had a conventional cruise control system.

Toyota Minivan with Adaptive Cruise Control

#18 toyota sienna.

As a family hauler expected to be a comfortable highway cruiser, the Toyota Sienna has had adaptive cruise control as a standard provision since 2018.

Toyota Siennas from 2001 to 2017 had the conventional cruise control instead.

Toyota EV with Adaptive Cruise Control

#19 toyota bz4x.

Toyota entered the EV field for the first time with the bZ4X in 2023, and the electric SUV has the adaptive cruise control system as standard.

Mechanical Details of the DRCC

On any stretch of road, cruise control allows you to give your leg a rest by automatically engaging the vehicle to continue on at current speed while at the same time depending on your input for minor steering changes and braking. The DRCC goes a step further, using active vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to automatically brake the vehicle when another car enters into the lane in front of you. Using radar technology, the vehicle gauges the speed of the car ahead of your own and then automatically adjusts your vehicle speed to maintain the preset following distance. It’s almost like having a car drive itself.

To use Cruise Control, turn it on first by pressing the button on the end of the control stalk behind the lower right side of the steering wheel. The green cruise control icon will appear in the instrument display to show the system is ready.

Then accelerate to the speed you want, and press the stalk down to set it. The SET indicator will appear underneath the CRUISE CONTROL icon to let you know you can take your foot off the accelerator.

If you need to increase your speed, lift and hold the stalk up until you reach the speed you want, and then release it.

To reduce the set speed, push the stalk down and hold it to slow down to your target speed, and then release it.

To temporarily suspend cruise control, pull the stalk towards you, or tap the brakes.

To resume the set speed, push the lever up briefly.

How to use Cruise Control on 2016 Toyota Camry

Cruise control on your Toyota is controlled by a small dock on your steering wheel and includes indicators in the multi-information display or MID that tell you when the system is on, and what speed is set.

You can use cruise control to help you drive at a set speed above 25 miles per hour without pressing on the accelerator pedal.

• To activate the system, press the on/off button on the end of the stock.
• The cruise control icon will appear in the instrument display.
• Then, accelerate or decelerate to your intended speed, and press the stock down to set the speed.
• If you need to increase your set speed, push the stock up and release it for a one-mile-per-hour increment.
• Holding the stock up will accelerate continuously to a desired speed.
• Release the stock and the speed will set.
• To reduce the set speed, push down for a one-mile-per-hour decrease. Holding the stock down will decelerate continuously. Release the stock at your desired speed and the speed will set.
• If you wish to cancel cruise control you can either, pull the stock towards you, or tap the breaks.
• To resume to your previously set speed, push the stock up when driving above 25 miles per hour.
• To turn the system off, press the on/off button.

How To Operate Your 2015 Toyota Camry’s Adaptive Cruise Control

With Toyota’s available Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, drivers can drive easier with less to do and a whole lot less to worry about. The adaptive cruise control system isn’t magic. It automatically adjusts the Camry’s speed to maintain a safe following distance by using forward-sending radar technology. Monitoring speed and distance of the vehicle ahead, the Camry adjusts appropriately.

Now that you know how Dynamic Radar Cruise Control works, it’s time to learn how to operate it.

• To activate, press the “ON/OFF” button at the end of the stalk on the lower end of the right side of the steering wheel.
• The radar-ready indicator will appear in the Multi Information Display on the instrument panel.
• Accelerate or decelerate to your preferred speed.
• Press the stalk down to set the speed.
• To go faster or slower, push the stalk up or down accordingly and hold until you’ve reached the desired speed. Then release it.
• To cancel cruise control, either tap the brakes, pull the stalk toward you, or press the “ON/OFF” button.
• To change the preset distance between vehicles, use the radar range button on the lower right side of the steering wheel. Press the button repeatedly to cycle through the available ranges displayed on the Multi Information Display.

You can use Toyota Camry cruise control to maintain a set speed without depressing the accelerator pedal.

Setting the vehicle speed

1. Press the cruise control main switch to activate the cruise control. Cruise control indicator will be displayed. Press the switch again to deactivate the cruise control.

2. Accelerate or decelerate the vehicle to the desired speed, and press the “SET” switch to set the speed. Cruise control “SET” indicator will be displayed. The vehicle speed at the moment the switch is released becomes the set speed.

Adjusting the set speed

To change the set speed, operate the “+ RES” or “SET” switch until the desired set speed is obtained.

• Increases the speed
• Decreases the speed Fine adjustment: Press the switch. Large adjustment: Press and hold the switch to change the speed, and release when the desired speed is reached.

The set speed will be increased or decreased as follows:

• When the set speed is shown in “MPH” Fine adjustment: By approximately 1 mph (1.6 km/h) each time the switch is operated. Large adjustment: The set speed can be increased or decreased continually until the switch is released.
• When the set speed is shown in “km/h” Fine adjustment: By approximately 1 km/h (0.6 mph) each time the switch is operated Large adjustment: The set speed can be increased or decreased continually until the switch is released.

Canceling and resuming the constant speed control

• Pressing the cancel switch cancels the constant speed control. The speed setting is also canceled when the brakes are applied.
• Pressing the “+ RES” switch resumes the constant speed control. Resuming is available when the vehicle speed is more than approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).

Cruise control can be set when

• The shift lever is in D or range 4 or higher of S has been selected.
• Range 4 or higher of D has been selected by using the paddle shift switch. (vehicles with paddle shift switches)
• Vehicle speed is above approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).

Accelerating after setting the vehicle speed

• The vehicle can be accelerated normally. After acceleration, the set speed resumes.
• Even without canceling the cruise control, the set speed can be increased by first accelerating the vehicle to the desired speed and then pressing the “SET” switch to set the new speed.

Automatic cruise control cancelation

Cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in any of the following situations.

• Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) below the preset vehicle speed.
• At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
• Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
• VSC is activated.
• TRAC is activated for a period of time.
• When the VSC or TRAC system is turned off.

If the warning message for the cruise control is shown on the multiinformation display

Press the cruise control main switch once to deactivate the system, and then press the button again to reactivate the system.

If the cruise control speed cannot be set or if the cruise control cancels immediately after being activated, there may be a malfunction in the cruise control system. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.

To avoid operating the cruise control by mistake

Switch the cruise control off using the cruise control main switch when not in use.

Situations unsuitable for cruise control

Do not use cruise control in any of the following situations. Doing so may result in loss of control and could cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.

• In heavy traffic
• On roads with sharp bends
• On winding roads
• On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
• On steep hills Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a steep hill.
• During emergency towing

2016 Is this normal? (Adaptive cruise control)

My '16 LT was totaled, and I replaced it with a '17 Premier with 50k miles. When using cruise control, I've yet to see it actually slow the car down as it approaches a slower vehicle ahead. It detects the vehicle as indicated by the illuminated icon on the dashboard, but it always gets way closer than I feel is safe and so I cancel cruise control manually. I've tried each of the various following distance settings using the center button in the steering wheel cruise control cluster, and get exactly the same behavior. I've driven other cars with adaptive cruise control (and currently own one) and in all those cases the longest following distance is too long for my taste while the shortest is too short. So there seems to be some rough consistency across manufacturers in the range of possible following distances. Am I missing something, or is this normal behavior, or is my ACC defective?  

The longest following distance is the best & what I use. It works, but it takes time to build your confidence in the system. Unless there is a major disparity such as a car disabled or ojects on the highway, I leave it engaged on the highway.  

There was another similar post saying their ACC didn't seem to be working. Not sure if there was ever a resolution. I wish there was an "extra long" distance setting as I find the long setting to be just barely enough.  

There is a screen on the instrument panel you can switch to that shows the following distance (in seconds). I swear that mine used to be 1,2, and 3 seconds with the 3 ACC settings, but after one of my service reprogrammings it changed to different values. Should be able to test here what the following distances are for the 3 following distance settings. Observation of note though - the ACC doesn't seem to calculate acceleration. So, if you're approaching a rapdily slowing vehicle, it gets uncomfortably close, and if you're behind an accelerating vehicle (ie after a stoplight turns green) it will be really hesitant and create a big gap. And it doesn't see vehicles you aren't following at all, it will ram them - by this I mean vehicles that are totally stopped or even significantly slower than you that you are quickly catching up to.  

Thanks for your replies. This basically confirms to me that the '17 Volt ACC is nowhere near as good as more modern versions (at least in the cars I've driven that had it), so I am going to be treating it as if it's regular manual cruise control. BTW, the recommended following distance is at least 3 seconds, so I have no idea why 1 second would even by supported by ACC. I'll fiddle with the various settings to see if I can find the following distances and adjust them.

An easy way to check if the adaptive cruise is working is to set it for say 55mph, then use it on a local road with a much slower speed limit, say 30mph. At that slow speed, following closely shouldn't be uncomfortable. I use mine often on local roads -- it works great! And yes, at highway speeds, even the longest interval can seem dangerously close!

Are you sure your car has ACC? Not all 17 premiers have it. I had a 17 Premier and it showed follow distance and had distance detect settings, but no ACC.  

Aha! That explains it. Indeed it is not equipped with ACC. No big loss. I'm pretty ambivalent about it when driving cars that have it. Thanks for all your help!

Possible to add dynamic cruise control to 2016 Highlander XLE

Hi. I'm have a 2016 Toyota Highlander that has cruise on it, but I am trying to see if it's possible to add a distance pacing/automatic/dynamic cruise control option, does anyone know if you can do that? I have read online that it's possible, but I called a local dealership and all they said was "I don't think so". I'm hoping someone here can tell me if it's possible. Thanks in advance! Heather  

No, it would require a plethora of parts and would be cost prohibitive. Were talking front distance sensor, wiring cables, ECMs, modules, steering wheel switches, etc.

Radar cruise control requires more attention than regular cruise BECAUSE the first time it slams on the brakes because someone is exiting the hwy in front of you it will scare you to death. With regular cruise activated, you would not deactivate it in that instance, but the radar still sees the car in front of you and you must deactivate it or risk someone behind you redesigning your rear end.  

You can, but it would be a couple grand in parts alone.  

Not to mention you'd need an entire 2017 up front end clip to accommodate the radar bits. So more like 3-5K.  

Not sure of the cost, indeed it would be very significant. But I do have "radar cruise control" on my 2016 Highlander. For what it does and how it does it, I would certainly not want to spend kilos of dinero and hours of my time hacking an install of that "upgrade".  

Confirmed 2014 limited platinum has dynamic cruise. Believe it comes bundled with automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning.  

Thanks everyone for responses. Previous vehicles I have owned had the automatic/dynamic cruise and it was a life send on long road trips. Sounds like the Toyota one is super sensitive.  

So, are you saying you never had it panic brake on you or you never had it slow you down so gradually that you looked down and you were going 10-15 MPH slower than you programmed. Pain in the butt on a limited access highway. It's an over-rated thing IMO.  

The laser cruise control works great in the right circumstances. For us we find it to be useful on two lane (one lane in each direction) highways. On wider roads, where passing is readily possible, such as most highway driving on interstates, we disengage the radar cruise and only use the integrated speed based system. Basically, the radar cruise gets virtually no use however it works flawlessly when called upon. Definitely NOT worth upgrading an existing vehicle or trading in to get this feature. Automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are good reasons for upgrading a vehicle lacking such options.

In that case, it might be helpful if you itemized the ingredients. People might not recognize that particular drink, but know about the things that are in it.

Actually Ginger Beer has alcohol so per HAL policy it cannot be brought on board. There would be no problem with the copper cup

I got copper mule cups from Wm. Sonoma

A few years go, we do our own mules when we have a party. I'll pass on HAL.

I've purchased loads of ginger "beer" over the years, and it has not been alcoholic.

I purchased several bottles of ginger beer in Bermuda in May. Was not alcoholic and had zero problem bringing it back on Veendam.

Today's brewed ginger beers are categorized as non-alcoholic drinks because their alcohol content is less than 0.5 percent , which meets FDA requirements. Since ginger beers are naturally fermented, they have less carbonation and often develop a beer-like head when poured into a glass. Bring the FDA classification as non alcoholic
