Alabama Safari Park

The Alabama Safari Park, a 350-acre safari park, opened in 2018 and works to provide animals with as natural a habitat as possible for the more than 450 animals living there. It features a 3-mile road where guests can feed Banteng, Grevy's and Grants Zebras, Watusi, Bison, Eland and many other exotic animals free-roaming and up close, without barriers.

Explore the village walk-thru, where you will find ring-tailed lemurs and kangaroos. Enjoy the budgie adventure aviary and  feed the giraffes. You can also pet all your favorite farm animals, including goats and pigs. Or experience a behind-the-scenes sloth encounter!

Getting There

The Alabama Safari Park is located in Montgomery County at Exit 158 off I-65 in Hope Hull, Alabama. The Alabama Safari Park is an easy drive from Atlanta, Birmingham or Mobile,  Pensacola or Destin and surrounding cities in NW Florida and southern Alabama.

Then I - 65 South to Exit 158. Off exit, take left. Go 1/2 mile to Venable Road. Take left and follow to the entrance.

This was a wonderful experience! We went with our daughter and son in law And our 5 year old and 2 1/2 Year old grandchildren. We all had a great time! We rode in the back of my son in law’s pick up, while he drove through the park. We were able to feed the animals and we went around. It was so cool to get so close to the animals. Beware of the llamas! They do think that they should be fed first!. Ration the food so you will have some for all the animals. We bought several buckets (hang on to them tightly, they will try to steal the bucket) and then dumped them into a bag. That way we could put a handful into the bucket at a time. They do eat it fast.the grandkids absolutely loved it!

Get ready to get up front and personal with these gentle giants! By far the best drive thru safari around!! Grab 2 or three bowls of food because you're gonna want to feed them all! We went through twice and wanted to go through again just for the heck of it lol! The staff at the shoppe are so sweet and friendly and absolutely the sunshine of the park! Smiles all around you know they love their job! Hands down the best day spent there!

Awesome safari park. So much fun as all the animals are friendly and you can ride through as many times as you want.

Mientras un grupo de turistas disfrutaban de los paisajes sudafricanos, se encontraron con dos leones que se embistieron sobre el vehículo en el que se transportaban. Sin embargo, lo que más les llamó la atención fue la escena con la que se sorprendieron unos minutos después .

Según le indicaron los turistas al medio Daily Star , se podían sentir vibraciones en todo el vehículo y ver a algunos pasajeros cubriéndose los ojos con el rostro enrojecido de la vergüenza que sentían . Pese a que parte de los ocupantes del vehículo se quedaron perplejos con la secuencia del apareamiento, otros optaron por tomar sus teléfonos para filmar lo que estaba sucediendo y, por supuesto, las imágenes no tardaron en viralizarse.

Tal como agregaron, los guardaparques no parecían molestos durante el encuentro, que terminó abruptamente. La leona se puso de costado para informar a su pareja que su tarea del día había terminado .

A través de su cuenta de TikTok, uno de los guías del safari compartió el momento que no tardó en dar la vuelta al mundo en cuestión de segundos. Además del casi millón de likes , recibió miles de comentarios, entre estos se encontraban algunos que bromeaban con lo poco que había durado el acto y cómo quedó la leona tras ello. “Las leonas también mienten. Le dijo al león: ‘me dejaste muerta’”; “La mataste campeón” ; “Imaginen que el león tenga ganas de ir a hacer pis allí arriba jajaja” y “La leona me representa cuando me hago la dormida”, fueron solo algunos de ellos.

Pero ese no fue el único viral del último tiempo que tuvo a leones de protagonistas. Una influencer de moda y viaje contó recientemente una anécdota en su TikTok que dejó a más de uno con la boca abierta.

La joven de 25 años viajó a Tanzania y se despertó de una particular manera a mitad de la noche. “Nos despertó un león mientras dormíamos en medio de la sábana africana en Tanzania” , escribió sobre el video que publicó a través de su perfil, @tupisaravia , donde acumula más de 100.000 seguidores, y consiguió tres millones de likes con su historia.

Mientras Martina Saravia, más conocida como Tupi, intentaba mostrar juntos a sus compañeros de ruta lo que ocurría en medio de la oscuridad y con su celular en mano, una polilla irrumpía la escena, algo que desató la risa de ambos. “Hoy sonaba mucho más lejos y estaba a 20 metros, o sea que está acá atrás” , sostuvo uno de ellos.

Minutos más tarde, los jóvenes decidieron salir en una camioneta y se encontraron con el mamífero. “Ahí está, miren. Ya me voy a vengar, ¿me escuchaste? Gil”, expresó y sus dichos se hicieron realidad: “9.30: despertarlo de su siesta” , tituló, mientras en el video se la vio bailar frente al león, que dormía plácidamente. La secuencia obtuvo miles de comentarios de los usuarios.

Un par de leones no pudieron aguantarse las ganas y empezaron a hacerlo sobre una furgoneta de safari con los turistas echando un vistazo a todo desde el interior.

Un grupo de turistas que participaba de un safari en Sudáfrica se quedó atónito recientemente cuando 2 grandes felinos se sintieron como en casa sobre su vehículo.

En el video se ve al león macho montando a una leona que descansa sobre el techo, confirmando su cariñoso encuentro con un par de gruñidos. El jeep se sacudió notablemente de lado a lado mientras lo hacían, provocando risas y suspiros de los turistas abajo.

La intimidad de los leones no duró demasiado. La cansada leona se tumbó hacia un lado mientras el rey de la selva finalmente se desconectó de ella.

Aunque el encuentro pudo haberle dado algo de repugnancia a algunos turistas, es significativamente menos aterrador que el ataque de los elefantes en África que vimos a principios de este mes y que terminó con una muerte.

In a few weeks, over a dozen states will be abuzz as trillions of periodical cicadas will emerge from their yearslong underground stay.

Broods XIX and XIII will emerge in a combined 17 states, mostly in the Midwest and Southeast, in a rare, double brood event . These two broods last emerged together 221 years ago, and after this year are not predicted to do so again until 2245.

Once conditions are right, the two broods will emerge in massive numbers to feed, make noise, mate and die. Here's what to know about where to find the 13-year Brood XIX and the 17-year Brood XIII.

The two cicada broods will emerge in a combined 17 states across the Southeast and Midwest, with an overlap in parts of Illinois and Iowa. They will emerge once soil eight inches underground reaches 64 degrees, expected to begin in mid-May and lasting through late June.

The two broods last emerged together in 1803 , when Thomas Jefferson was president.

What is a periodical cicada?

Both the 13-year Brood XIX and the 17-year Brood XIII are periodical cicadas, which emerge every 13 or 17 years across North America. They differ from annual cicadas, which emerge every year.

You may remember the last periodical brood to emerge in huge numbers: the 17-year Brood X that was found in 2021 throughout the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard.

Annual cicadas, which are dark green to black with green wing veins, are  typically larger than periodical cicadas , which are recognizable for their red eyes, red legs and red wing veins, according to North Carolina State University Extension.

Periodical cicadas emerge earlier, usually in mid-to-late May as opposed to annual cicadas in July and August. According to North Carolina State University Extension, annual cicadas begin mating, " singing conspicuously " and lying eggs about two weeks after they emerge. Their first nymphs will fall to the ground and begin feeding on roots under the soil, and fully-developed nymphs will emerge two years later and molt into adults.

Above ground, periodical cicadas have a similar life cycle, appear in much larger numbers and are much louder. At the end of their season, the next generation of nymphs move underground and remain for either 13 or 17 years.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
