• Free kilometers We offer unlimited kilometers to all our clients.
• Age Minimum drivers age is 21 yrs for car groups A and 23 yrs for all other car groups. Especially for luxury category and Mini Bus the minimum rentals age is above 25 yrs old.
• Driving license With a valid driving license held for at least one year. All renters must hold a valid EU or International Driving License, issued at least one year prior to the rental.
• Fuel Policy Auto Trip has two refueling options available to meet your needs: 1) Same level of fuel Car has to be returned the same amount of petrol or diesel as it was delivered. 2) Pick up full / Return empty This type of fuel policy means that you will pick up your rental vehicle with a full tank of petrol and will be required to return the vehicle with the petrol tank empty. Charges for fuel are payable at the rental location when you collect your vehicle. As you are paying for your fuel in advance to make the most of the petrol you get (No refunds will be given for unused gas). we recommend returning the vehicle with as little fuel in the tank as possible.
• Traffic Fines and Administrative Sanctions All traffic fines and appended administrative sanctions resulting from any violation of the Greek Traffic law during rental period, is solely the renter's responsibility and paid dy the renter.If any such administrative sanction is not disclosed to the company at the end of the rental period (contract), the violation will be charged to the renter.
• Modern safe and reliable vehicles We will provide vehicles that are well maintained, well services clean and safe to travel in.
• All Local taxes and V.A.T (24%) Vat 24% and all local taxes included.
• 24/7 road assistance all over the island All cars are insured for road assistance all over the island of Crete.
• Delivery and Collection of vehicles We also specialize in Crete airports on-time pick-up and drop-off car hire service. Upon your arrival in Heraklion airport your vehicle will be waiting for you at the airport parking just 20 meters from the arrivals gate. Free delivery and collection to/from airport, port hotels, between 07:00 and 22:00 hrs If your reservation is in out of office hours (07.00- 22.00) there will be an extra charge of 20 euros payable on arrival. • Replacement of the car in case of serious damage In case of the unfortunate event of an accident, your car will be replaced will another same or bigger size.
• A second driver to the contract for free Second driver free of charge.
• Shipping of Cars Shipping of cars It is only allowed with the written authorization of AutoTrip.
• Availability Car models are a according to original booking, however on rare occasions we may have to supply a different vehicle.
• Tyres Damages Replacing a flat tire with the spare is clearly a responsibility of the driver, it is not covered by road assistance. Renter is not covered if insists on driving with a flat tire or with the overheat indicator.
• Roof racks Roof rack – 4 euro per day are available only for certain car groups.
• Lost Keys All our cars keys are chip-coded and the replacement of them is costly and timely. In case of lost keys, you will be charged with 80.00 - 100.00 Euros (depending on the car model) plus any associated transport and time costs in order to get the replacement keys to you.
• Accident Procedure In the unfortunate event of an accident the nearest police station must be informed by the renter and an accident report obtained at the real time of the fact. Also please let us know immediately. "Without this report the renter is responsible for the full amount of the repairs!" With this report the renter responsibility is eliminated.
• Late Returns For vehicle drop-offs, a maximum tolerance of 30 minutes is allowed, after which, an extra day's rental will be charged. For extention of the vehicle the customer has to inform us in due time before your rental expires. In case the customer does not inform us, the expenses cause by the unconfirmed extention has to be paid by the customer upon return the rental vehicle.
• Out of hour charge The company services you 24 hours every day.If your reservation is in out of office hours (07.00- 22.30) there will be an extra charge of 20 euros payable on arrival. Returning the vehicle after-hours is free of charge.
• One way rentals One way rental will be charged 30 euros. For example if somebody rent the car from Heraklion Airport and return it in Chania Airport there is an extra charge 30 euros.
• GPS Navigator System The price for the rental of navigator system is 5 euros per day.
• Unused rental days Should the hirer decide to return an Auto Trip vehicle back to our branch earlier than you originally planned, we shall not refund you for unused rental days.
• Booking and Payment Methods Booking is free of charge, pay on your delivery, No deposit is required to book a car except from the period between 01/06 until 30/09 you can pay before the delivery day by bank (we send you our bank details and you make the deposit).All major credit cards accepted. • No Waiting - No Transfers When your flight arrives, your vehicle will be waiting for you (always on time). We also specialize in Crete airports on-time pick-up and drop-off car hire service. All insurance coverings & waivers are valid provided that that the renter has complied with all terms & conditions. The renter is obliged to pay for repairing costs of any damage caused to the rental vehicle if the use of the car is not proper, as below:

• The vehicle is operated on any unauthorised road, non-asphalt road, dirt road or off-road (eg. Balos).
• The renter violates traffic rules (eg. road signs, speed limits, road direction).
• The renter ignores any unnoticed accident or damage to the vehicle.
• The vehicle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest or the vehicle is used for the purpose of reward (taxi or courier service).
• The vehicle is driven by any person disqualified from holding or has never held a driver’s licence appropriate for that vehicle or is not a registered driver in this agreement.
• The driver of the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol or any drug that affects his ability to drive the vehicle.
• The vehicle is operated outside of the hire or any agreed extension of that term. The vehicle is willfully or recklessly damaged by the renter (note: burning out a clutch, sitting/standing on the bonnet/boot/roof of the vehicle, damages to the vehicle interior).
• Use of the wrong type of fuel.
• Damage done by animals.
• If the renter doesn't take all the necessary precaution measures for secure parking and locking of the car.

"These 4,9 stars are really well deserved. The best offer I could get, we have been picked up directly by the gate and the car was ours within 3 minutes! No km limit, option of the second driver for free, comple insurance without any extras and prompt reply to our emails at any time! My girlfriend and I rented a Fiat Panda 1,3l for the duration of 12 days and it was a perfect size for a couple traveling around Crete even to numerous of hidden beaches. In Crete saying "as more beautiful beach as worst road" and our Pande it to everywhere! Litsa from Autotrip was already waiting with a white board with our names by the arrivals at the airport, we walked 2 minutes to the car, paid and that was it! No transfer to the office with a bug parking lot, no waiting! Our return flight got delayed by 4 hours and it was not a problem for Auto trip to return our car simply later than planned without any extra charges. We returned the car simply to the same place and left. The easiest way to return the car ever :)"

• Fuel Policy Auto Trip has two refueling options available to meet your needs: 1) Same level of fuel Car has to be returned the same amount of petrol or diesel as it was delivered. 2) Pick up full / Return empty This type of fuel policy means that you will pick up your rental vehicle with a full tank of petrol and will be required to return the vehicle with the petrol tank empty. Charges for fuel are payable at the rental location when you collect your vehicle. As you are paying for your fuel in advance to make the most of the petrol you get (No refunds will be given for unused gas). we recommend returning the vehicle with as little fuel in the tank as possible.
• Traffic Fines and Administrative Sanctions All traffic fines and appended administrative sanctions resulting from any violation of the Greek Traffic law during rental period, is solely the renter's responsibility and paid dy the renter.If any such administrative sanction is not disclosed to the company at the end of the rental period (contract), the violation will be charged to the renter.

• Lost Keys All our cars keys are chip-coded and the replacement of them is costly and timely. In case of lost keys, you will be charged with 80.00 - 100.00 Euros (depending on the car model) plus any associated transport and time costs in order to get the replacement keys to you.
• Accident Procedure In the unfortunate event of an accident the nearest police station must be informed by the renter and an accident report obtained at the real time of the fact. Also please let us know immediately. "Without this report the renter is responsible for the full amount of the repairs!" With this report the renter responsibility is eliminated.
• Late Returns For vehicle drop-offs, a maximum tolerance of 30 minutes is allowed, after which, an extra day's rental will be charged. For extention of the vehicle the customer has to inform us in due time before your rental expires. In case the customer does not inform us, the expenses cause by the unconfirmed extention has to be paid by the customer upon return the rental vehicle.
• Out of hour charge The company services you 24 hours every day.If your reservation is in out of office hours (07.00- 22.30) there will be an extra charge of 20 euros payable on arrival. Returning the vehicle after-hours is free of charge.
• One way rentals One way rental will be charged 30 euros. For example if somebody rent the car from Heraklion Airport and return it in Chania Airport there is an extra charge 30 euros.
• GPS Navigator System The price for the rental of navigator system is 5 euros per day.
• Unused rental days Should the hirer decide to return an Auto Trip vehicle back to our branch earlier than you originally planned, we shall not refund you for unused rental days.

• The vehicle is operated on any unauthorised road, non-asphalt road, dirt road or off-road (eg. Balos).
• The renter violates traffic rules (eg. road signs, speed limits, road direction).
• The renter ignores any unnoticed accident or damage to the vehicle.
• The vehicle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest or the vehicle is used for the purpose of reward (taxi or courier service).
• The vehicle is driven by any person disqualified from holding or has never held a driver’s licence appropriate for that vehicle or is not a registered driver in this agreement.
• The driver of the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol or any drug that affects his ability to drive the vehicle.
• The vehicle is operated outside of the hire or any agreed extension of that term. The vehicle is willfully or recklessly damaged by the renter (note: burning out a clutch, sitting/standing on the bonnet/boot/roof of the vehicle, damages to the vehicle interior).

• Damage done by animals.

• Knossos . The sunbleached remnants of this old Minoan palace form one of the most famous tourist attractions in the country. It covers an area of 150,000 square feet and is thought to have been the main political and financial hub for the Minoan civilization. Evidence suggests that humans inhabited this land as early as 7000 BCE. However, construction on Knossos and nearby palaces started around 1900 BCE. The palace is currently on the tentative list for being given UNESCO status. According to Greek mythology, the minotaur, a terrifying half-man, half-bull creature, was kept in the labyrinth here. 
• Greek coffee culture . Going out for coffee is a huge part of Greek culture — so much so that it could be considered the country’s national sport! Coffee shops can be found on virtually every corner in Heraklion. For a real local experience, head to Think Tank (Andreou Kritis 7), an espresso bar housed inside a grand neoclassical building. Alternatively, treat yourself to handmade Greek desserts and pastries, washed down with a Greek freddo espresso coffee at Hacienda (Leof. Andrea Papandreou 25).
• The village of Thrapsano . This hilltop settlement is located 30km southeast of Heraklion. It takes just over half an hour to reach it by car. It is known as the “pottery village of Crete” and is a great place to pick up souvenirs and handmade pottery. When you approach the village, you will find several potters hard at work in their workshops, firing up their kilns and shaping pots and vases by hand. Many locals work in pottery businesses that have been passed down through their families for generations. They take a lot of pride in their craft and are happy to provide demonstrations to curious travellers. 
• Koules fortress. The main focal point in the old port of Heraklion is its 16th-century Venetian fortress. The fortress has served several purposes throughout the years — initially as living quarters for military personnel and as storage space for weaponry and foodstuffs. It was largely rebuilt during the Ottoman occupation, during which time it operated as a prison. Today, you can enter for just €2 and admire the views over Heraklion and the Cretan sea. This is particularly stunning at sunset.
• Wine tasting . More than 70% of Crete’s wine is produced in the vineyards south of Heraklion. With so many wineries available, it can be overwhelming to know where to choose. The vineyards of Archanes and Peza, surrounded by rolling green hills and fragrant olive groves are particularly special. If your schedule doesn’t affor you the time to visit vineyards, many bars and restaurants in central Heraklion offer tastings paired with charcuteries.

Traffic and parking

• There are no highways on Crete (nor on any other Greek islands).
• Unless specifically indicated otherwise, the speed limits are 90 km/h (55.9 mph) on roads outside populated areas and 50 km/h (31 mph) in populated and built-up areas.
• Many gas stations might be closed during the weekends and public holidays. 
• It is illegal to use a mobile phone while driving.
• The legal alcohol limit is 0.05% for experienced drivers and 0.02% for novice drivers. Exceeding these limits can lead to steep fines and a licence ban. Exceeding the limit of 0.08% is a criminal offence and can lead to up to two years of imprisonment.
• The insurance and car documentation needs to be in the car whenever you’re driving.
• If you’re the driver, you need to have your passport or ID card with you at all times.
• The general emergency number, like elsewhere in the EU, is 112. The police number is 100, the ambulance number is 166, and the fire brigade number is 199. 

There are no toll roads in Crete. There are a number of toll roads, tunnels, and bridges on the mainland of Greece. Many travelers find them very hard to navigate and some choose to avoid using the toll roads altogether because of the very complex toll road system that is in place. Different toll roads are administered by different private companies and so there is not a single, nationwide (or even region-wide) toll road system in place.

For most toll roads, the payment can be either made with cash at a toll gate, by credit card, or with coins at an automatic toll machine. For some roads, an electronic transponder might be used to pay for using the toll road. Some rental cars might be equipped with such an electronic transponder. All reservations are based on a specific vehicle category in case of not availability for a confirmed reservation. “ EUROTRIP ” reserves the right to offer a vehicle of similar or bigger category to the customer with no extra charge.

For a lot of people, buying car insurance is like buying sliced bread. It’s not the most exciting purchase, and the options all seem similar. So thrifty shoppers might simply reach for the cheapest thing on the shelf. But like cheap bread, cheap car insurance may leave you wishing you spent a little more on quality.

“The cheapest is not always the best,” warns Jessica McNally, an agency owner with Goosehead Insurance in Dallas. That’s because there are lots of factors that make up a car insurance company. And while price is one of them, it’s best to look at the bigger picture.

Here’s what to look for when picking the best car insurance company.

1. Choose a financially stable company

The best car insurance companies have plenty of money on hand to pay for customers’ claims. It’s important to check an insurer’s financial stability before buying a policy, especially if it’s a smaller insurer you’ve never heard of.

There are several independent agencies that evaluate the financial strength of insurance companies. One example is A.M. Best. You can use its online search tool to find an insurer’s financial strength rating. Companies with a rating of A or higher are considered to have an excellent ability to pay out customer claims.

2. Check customer satisfaction ratings and reviews

Not every insurer is customer-first. That’s why it’s important to research the customer satisfaction of insurers you’re considering.

But take other people’s emotionally charged comments about companies or agents you might read online with a grain of salt, McNally advises.

3. Look for convenience

A great auto insurer should offer multiple ways to manage a policy. For example, some insurers allow customers to use a mobile app to file and track claims. But it’s hard to tell how simple it’ll be to file a claim or perform other essential tasks, like paying your premium, before becoming a customer.

Some telltale signs that an insurer will be easy to work with are high mobile app ratings, flexible customer service hours and an easy-to-use website with helpful content. Consider asking a company representative to walk you through the claims process to learn what you’ll need to do if you have to file a claim. And pay attention to how the company communicates with you. "If they don't properly communicate, well, that's a warning sign," says Michael DeLong, a research and advocacy associate for the nonprofit Consumer Federation of America.

4. Pick an affordable company

It’s not hard to get car insurance quotes online from many companies. Make sure you compare the same coverage options throughout the quote-gathering process. And don’t forget to look for car insurance discounts, like breaks for being a good driver, paying your premium in full or driving a new car.

More tips to find the best car insurance

When shopping for the best car insurance, keep the following tips in mind.

Assess your needs. Before buying car insurance, take a moment to reflect on what’s important to you and your family. For example, maybe you prioritize affordability and a well-polished mobile app, but don’t need accident forgiveness .  

Consider small insurers. There are lots of small insurance companies you’ve probably never heard of. These regional insurers may provide lower rates and better customer service than the big companies you see advertised on TV.

Work with an independent agent. While it may be easy to get quotes yourself, independent car insurance agents and brokers can streamline the process. These experts vet companies and compile quotes from small and large insurers on your behalf. Independent agents and brokers can especially come in handy if you have a less-than-perfect driving record and can’t find insurance on your own.

Do your research. Search online for recent mentions of a company in the news before buying a policy, recommends DeLong. If you find a company has lots of recent lawsuits against it, you may want to think twice about signing on the dotted line. “And if they've had to pay out settlements, that's an even bigger red flag,” DeLong says.

Shop around once a year. Make a practice of shopping for car insurance every year — especially if price is important to you. Insurers adjust car insurance rates regularly, so what might have been the most affordable option last year may no longer be a bargain.

How does Amex Platinum car rental insurance work?

To receive Amex Platinum car rental insurance¹ on your reservation, you must use your card to pay for the entire rental and decline the rental company’s coverage options. This coverage also applies when redeeming Membership Rewards points to pay for some or all of the reservation.

Rental car protection¹ covers Amex Platinum cardholders, their spouse or domestic partner and any authorized drivers.

Rental car elite status

As an Amex Platinum cardholder, you and your authorized Platinum Card users receive complimentary elite status from three major rental car companies. Each program requires manual activation of these benefits, and you must use the special code when booking a rental car to receive benefits like free upgrades and discounts.

Avis Preferred

When you enroll with Avis Preferred, you’ll receive Avis Preferred Plus status. This status level includes a complimentary upgrade (when available) and additional Avis Preferred points on your reservations. To receive discounts on your rental, use your Platinum AWD discount code “A756900” and pay with your Amex Platinum Card. 

Plus, you’ll receive a free weekend offer after completing two qualifying Avis rentals in the U.S., Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands within the following promotional period: January 1 – June 30 or July 1 – December 31. Terms and conditions apply.

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards

Amex cardholders receive complimentary Hertz President’s Circle status with Hertz Gold Plus Rewards. As a President’s Circle member, you’ll receive a discount on the base rate, a 4-hour grace period on returns within the U.S. and guaranteed car-class upgrades on certain classes of vehicles (with at least a 24-hour advance reservation). 

You’ll receive these benefits when paying with your Amex Platinum Card and using the Amex Corporate Discount Code (CDP) “211762” on your reservation.

National Car Rental Emerald Club

When you activate benefits with National Car Rental Emerald Club, you’ll receive complimentary Executive tier status. You can choose any car within the Executive Selection area and receive automatic upgrades when a full-size through luxury car is reserved. Plus, after six qualifying rentals, you’ll receive a complimentary rental day. You can also choose to receive airline miles or hotel points from one of National’s partners on your reservations.

What does Amex car rental insurance cover?

When using your Amex Platinum car rental benefits, your rental car is insured for up to 30 consecutive days per rental agreement. Eligible vehicles are covered up to $75,000 against damage or theft of the vehicle.¹

Additionally, this protection covers you for other charges beyond vehicle damage. Rental car companies may charge drivers for loss of rental vehicle use, towing charges, appraisal fees, storage, administrative fees and more. The American Express Platinum card covers all of these costs.¹

These benefits also include accidental death and dismemberment coverage up to $300,000, accidental injury coverage up to $300,000 and personal property coverage up to $2,000.¹

What it doesn’t cover

Although the most exclusive cards, like American Express, are known for excellent customer service and generous benefits, the Amex Platinum car rental insurance¹ doesn’t cover every situation or claim. There are numerous exceptions where you won’t be covered against loss. Here are a few of the situations not covered by your Amex car rental coverage that may apply to your next rental car reservation.

• Vehicles rented in Australia, Italy or New Zealand.
• Illegal activity by the renter.
• Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
• Off-road operation of the vehicle.
• Intentional damage by the renter.
• Normal wear and tear.
• Theft or damage to an unlocked vehicle.
• Cargo vans, box trucks or vans with seating capacity for more than eight passengers.
• Using the vehicle for commercial or “for hire” purposes.
• Off-road vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds or recreational vehicles.

Additionally, these car rental benefits only apply to theft or damage to the rental car. This insurance does not cover damage to other vehicles or property. Nor does it cover injuries to passengers, other drivers or pedestrians.¹

How to file a claim for Amex Platinum rental car insurance

If your rental car experiences damage or theft during your rental period, you’ll need to file a claim . Since the Amex Platinum car rental benefits provide secondary coverage ¹, you must also involve your auto insurance carrier unless you paid the additional fee to make the insurance primary.

• Start your claim within 30 days of the loss or as soon as reasonably possible. You can call (800) 338-1670 or go online at americanexpress.com/protectionbenefits . If you’re outside the U.S., call collect at (303) 273-6497.
• Claim forms will be sent to the Amex Platinum Card customer after starting your claim. If you haven’t received these forms within 15 days, you can submit your own written statement with the details of your claim.
• Submit your claim forms and proof of loss within sixty days. Required documents vary by situation, but may include an itemized repair bill and copies of the rental agreement, the charge slip for the rental, your auto insurance coverage, your driver’s license and a police report (if applicable).
• Claims for benefits are typically paid within 30 days of receipt of all requested documents supporting your proof of loss.

Amex Premium car rental protection

Although the Amex Platinum car rental benefits include secondary coverage¹, many travelers want a higher level of protection. 

Amex Premium Car Rental Protection has two coverage options that offer primary rental car insurance. Depending on which coverage level you select, you’ll pay either $19.95 or $24.95 per rental period. This is one flat fee per rental, not a daily charge. California and Florida residents receive this coverage for a lower price.

This coverage provides insurance against damage or theft of your rental car for up to 42 consecutive days (up to 30 consecutive days for Washington State card members). It does not include liability coverage for injuries to others or property damage. Coverage is worldwide, except for Australia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica and New Zealand.

This optional insurance can provide huge savings over the daily rental insurance fees charged by rental car companies.

If your lender accepts credit card payments, you can use your Amex Platinum to make your monthly payment. However, if they do accept credit card payments, lenders typically charge a fee to cover credit card transaction costs. Contact your lender to ask if they accept credit card payments and what fees they charge.

Another option is to use a balance transfer or convenience check to make your payment. If you choose this option, be sure to understand the fees and interest rate associated with the checks.

The Amex Platinum car rental benefits¹ are the best of any Amex card. While the rental car protection offered by eligible Amex cards is essentially the same, the Amex Platinum Card includes additional perks that make it the most valuable choice.
