An Insight into Bharatpur Tourism

Till 17th century, Bharatpur was dominated by the Jat rulers and they were going strong in years to come. Mughals tried to conquer Bharatpur, but they were not able to do anything because of their strong rule, especially under the leadership of Badan Singh and Churaman. In early 18th century, the farmers of Bharatpur rose in revolt against the Mughals. That's when the Jats, under the leadership of Badan Singh along with his uncle Churaman, came together and defeated Mughal. After a series of war, finally in 1724 Badan Singh was recognized and conferred the title Raj. In 1733, Suraj Mal, Raja Badan Singh’s adopted son, vanquished Khemkaran, the rival chieftain seized fort of Bharatpur and laid the foundation of Bharatpur city. It was during the rule of Suraj Mal; Bharatpur was going through its golden period. Many palaces and forts that dot the kingdom, which are now the famous tourism places in Bharatpur were constructed during the rule of Suraj Mal. His son Jawahar Singh later succeeded him. Later in 1818, British came into the picture and made peace with Jats by signing an agreement. In 1947, the state acceded unto the dominion of India. Bharatpur is 50 kilometers to the west of Agra, and since it falls between the golden triangle (Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra), it is easily approachable for tourist.

The region shares its border with Gurgaon district of Haryana in the north and the Mathura and Agra districts of Uttar Pradesh in the east. And due to its proximity, Bharatpur is a prominent weekend getaway from Delhi and Gurgaon. Keoladeo Ghana National Park (Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary) is the most popular tourist attraction and sightseeing place in Bharatpur where tourists can spot 364 breeds of birds, 379 floral species, 50 species of fish, 13 species of snakes, five species of lizards, seven amphibian species, seven turtle species and a variety of other invertebrates. All thanks to Bharatpur tourism, the park is well maintained and remain crowded with tourists to enjoy the safari. Along with the park, Bharatpur is famous for its various other historical attractions like Lohagarh Fort, Government Museum, Deeg, Bharatpur Palace, Ganga Mandir, and many more. With the Tour My India’s holiday guide to Bharatpur, tourists can get all the information about the state like best time to visit, things to do, attractions and much more informatoion.
