A diverse, coming-of-age release, Going Postal takes in everything from modern trap beats to classic hip-hop production across its 13 tracks.

Meet and Get To Know Big Trip

Kulture Vulturez: How did you get introduced into hip hop? 

Big Trip: Growing up within 30 minutes of NYC in the early 2000’s, the influence of hip hop was all around me. I had a personal love for it from a young age, despite my counterparts around me in the suburbs. By 5th grade, I was dubbed the “Hip Hop Dude” and gave my first on-stage performance at our school play. As I grew into my first love of sports, I constantly had Biggie, 2Pac, or Lil Wayne inspiring me to try harder and make a name for myself. Time soon revealed that the music was changing me more as a man than the sports were.

Kulture Vulturez: What made you want to start making music seriously?

Big Trip:   After realizing I could conquer anything I wanted with the same success I had in baseball, the thought of taking my skills to another profession started creeping on me. After some soul searching on bumpy roads, I realized music was the only thing that truly moved my soul. From there, I made the quick decision to take over the music world.

Kulture Vulturez: Since getting started, what do you like about being an artist?

Big Trip: The freedom.

Kulture Vulturez: What made you choose a career in music over a professional career in baseball?

Big Trip:   Athletics, and especially baseball, will always be a massive part of my life. However, when contemplating my future, I had to pursue something that fit in with the mold of how I want to live.

Music enables me to be my own boss, think my own thoughts, and be as fly as I possibly can, all while getting my money. With D1 sports, I already felt like I was on someone’s leash. The Yankees would have told me to cut my hair the first day.

Kulture Vulturez: Your biggest song to date, Intl (Sleep when you’re dead) what was the meaning behind that song?

Big Trip: INTL was a spur of the moment song we completed within 30 minutes. Although it was spontaneous and without much thought, it spoke perfectly to the mind-state I was in while creating this album. I can sleep when I’m dead, now it’s time to work.

Throughout the song I reference the stressors that I’m dealing with, all while painting a lavish environment of what it’s like to be a CEO/artist. People have no idea how hard I work. I had a medical emergency while shooting the video and I still worked the next day!

Kulture Vulturez: What made you come up with the song Baseball Money Rich?

Big Trip:   I’ve thought about creating a baseball song ever since I started doing music back in 2016. I feel like the MLB doesn’t get enough spotlight in the hip hop world, and I wanted to be the person to change that narrative.

Considering I spent more of my life in a baseball uniform then my designer outfits, it was a pretty simple song for me to make. Also I’m planning on being the MVP in the celebrity All-Star Game, so I figured this would be a good segway.

Kulture Vulturez:  New album Going Postal is coming next week, what’s the concept behind it and what can listeners expect?

Big Trip: “Going Postal” is my first solo project as an artist. I’ve had success in the music scene, doing over 60 shows in the USA and a few internationally, but now it’s time to “go postal“ and take it to the next level. Also, if it wasn’t for my delivery services, I wouldn’t be where I’m at. It’s Big Trip, aka Luigi, aka the PACKMAN. I had to give credit where credit is due.

The beginning of my story is told on this tape, all with the help of my producers Dirty Harry and Stoney, and my “Phil Jackson” of a coach in Denver Mike. From the energizing “Run A Lap”  featuring Fenix Flexin of the Shoreline Mafia to a more soulful track like “Luxury” featuring Marc E Bassy, this project shows my versatility and stamps my unique sound that is simply known as Big Trip.

Get Ready for Big Trip

If you haven’t heard of Big Trip, you soon will. The New York City-born, now Denver-based rapper has gradually been carving out his own identity after leaving behind a burgeoning baseball career to create music. Already releasing a string of singles and starting up his own label, his debut album Going Postal dropped on July 2 nd .

Leading into Going Postal is single “Baseball Money Rich,” perhaps alluding to Big Trip’s own family before he discovered and began to forge his own path. Out on his own imprint Disbrow Park Records, Going Postal attracted a diverse range of collaborations, including Fenix Flexin of Shoreline Mafia and Marc E. Bassy.

Trip’s journey has taken a series of turns – all influential in getting him where he is today. He earned a full baseball scholarship to North Carolina’s Elon University, but a near-fatal accident quickly derailed his plans. 

Trip made the decision to relocate to Boulder, Colorado, where he formed hip-hop trio Low Hanging Fruit. There, the group gained a strong following, enough to have them open for artists like A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Madeintyo, Afroman, and GZA. Yet, Trip eventually envisioned himself going solo. So, into 2020, he acted on that, releasing songs “Pack” and “INTL (Sleep when Your Dead).”

As Big Trip levels up his career, we had a chance to talk to him about his journey thus far – and where he wants to go from here. 

Tell us about “Baseball Money Rich.” What are you trying to express on this track?

Baseball was a huge part of my life growing up. One day, I was playing MLB the Show and thought the music on there wasn’t good enough. With the baseball lingo engrained in me already, it was a simple process to make the song once I heard the beat.

You have a background in baseball, and even went to college on a baseball scholarship. How did you end up pursuing hip-hop instead of baseball?

Really, the transition was the beginning of me becoming my own man. My entire identity, my family, even my state all knew me as the baseball guy. As I started expanding my mind through books and certain life experiences, I realized I wasn’t playing for myself, but rather the people around me. After some trouble and time in isolation , I found myself out in Colorado doing the thing I love, music.

In Boulder, CO, you formed a group called Low Hanging Fruit. What was your approach to making music as a trio?

LHFMOB was a dynamic trio composed of myself from New York, Soup Dejour from Denver, and our producer Dirty Harry from the Bay Area. We loved the clash of different sounds that came from our upbringings. We all brought our own individual sounds and skills to create a unique sound between the three of us. Our goal is simple: Make great music, influence those around us, and have fun.

What made you decide to go solo?

My ambition to create a solo tape came from a place of challenging myself. My brother Soup is someone who I looked up to as a rapper, and kept me sharp as we both grew our skills. We always had a friendly competition of who had the better verse on a song, but I got to a point where I didn’t want to challenge my brother anymore, but I wanted to challenge myself. I have a concrete vision of what I can accomplish, and at this point, it’s me vs. me.

How do you think you’ll differentiate yourself as a solo artist?

I know I have an overall package that hip-hop hasn’t seen before. My sound and artistry will always continue to improve, while I take over markets that most wouldn’t dedicate themselves to even enter.

Your debut album Going Postal dropped on July 2nd. What should listeners expect from you?

This project is a collection of various sounds, lyrics, and feelings all created within my home studio. From West Coast bangers with Fenix Flexin of Shoreline Mafia to more soulful tracks featuring Marc E. Bassy, there is something for everyone. Every lyric was written by me, with influence directly from my life experiences, and they’re surrounded by real instrumentation that gives you a strong taste of what we are all about – timeless, cross-generational music.

Going Postal includes a few collaborations, including Marc E. Bassy and Fenix Flexin. Why did you select these collaborations?

“Run A Lap” with Fenix was a pretty easy decision once I laid down my verse. The hard-hitting beat by Stoney made Fenix come to my mind instantly. “Luxury” with Marc E. Bassy was another simple decision for me. The soulful, sexy song was already an anthem for the ladies, but adding Marc’s verse took it to the next level.

Since the end of 2020, you’ve dropped a few tracks. What should we expect from you for the rest of 2021?

After Going Postal , I will be very active in the scene. I plan to drop at least one more project, along with some singles, in collaboration with some of my favorite artists. Look out for me on stage as well…EVERYWHERE!

You also have a label, Disbrow Park Records. Why did you decide to start a label, and what are your long-term goals for it?

I believe being independent, and owning your own record label as an artist, is one of the best decisions an artist can make. Not only does it give me a personal platform to grow my brand, but it also creates a label home for other artists who fit the mold – discipline , perseverance, and respect. DPR will be a powerful label in music throughout this decade.

From baseball star to rapper, Big Trip is here to prove why he’s a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Raised in Westchester County, New York, but now based in Tennessee, the rising star was involved in a near-fatal accident that left him in a coma, which caused a halt to his sports career. Thankfully, music would be his saving grace.

Now, Big Trip returns with his newest banger titled “ Descendant ,” produced by Billboard chart-topping producer TwoFive. The record serves as the follow-up to his last release, “ Just Bein Honest ,” holding fans over until the release of his forthcoming album. 

Speaking on the record, Big Trip states, “‘DESCENDANT’ was inspired by the beat initially, which brought forth a war-like adrenaline rush when I heard it. I decided to channel that energy into the flow and lyrics.

Less than a month removed from sharing the stage with Soulja Boy during his ‘Souja World’ tour stop in Nashville, athlete turned recording artist Big Trip taps Billboard chart-topping producer TwoFive for “Descendant.” The follow-up to “Just Bein Honest” serves as the first official leak from the seasoned rap act’s forthcoming full-length album and accurately gives fans a glimpse of what to expect from the yet-to-be-titled body of work.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the new single, Trip reveals:

“This release is one of my favorites to date and holds significance because it sets the tone of the upcoming project. After initially hearing the instrumental, I was immediately prompted to attack the track with a robust flow that amplifies the grit showcased throughout the lyrics. The song personifies the passion I have for music and the beautiful burden I feel to honorably continue my family legacy; out of respect for my father and the generations before him. I make it extremely clear this time around that I’m not to be played with.”

The move took place at Guaranteed Rate Field against the Texas Rangers at home. Big Trip, a devout Abreu fan, reached out to the player with the concept and the rest was seamless. When Trip, whose full name is Brendan Tripodi was asked what the brainchild of infiltrating baseball with hip-hop was, Trip stated, “The culture of baseball is declining at major levels in comparison to basketball and football. Hip hop is the biggest entertainment industry category in the country. It’s a staple in the professional sports leagues for a reason and their audiences continue to grow. Connecting hip hop and baseball is simply a no-brainer”.

The rapper is also a former professional baseball player from Westchester County New York. In 2015, an accident would leave him in a coma of which he miraculously made a full recovery. Abreu has publicly co-signed the rapper and his baseball-themed, release “Baseball Money Rich”. Abreu’s Facebook page posted multiple times backing the rapper and the move for hip hop-baseball culture. The curve-ball, a befitting single debuted on the Jumbotron at White Sox Stadium with the ceremonial attendance of Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White. Currently, the song is spreading through the game like a fastball and can be heard from Little Leagues to the Major Leagues.

BigTrip stated, “This is just the beginning. It doesn’t stop here. I’m going to take hip hop-baseball culture from the field to tech. I want fans on PlayStation and Xbox to play ‘MLB The Show’ and be able to choose ‘Baseball Money Rich’ as their walk-on song. I want to make sure baseball steps into the future with a Grand Slam. I’m a rapper and a baseball player, I’m going to bring it home”.

The rapper recently finished a national tour with Marc E. Bassey and is due to release his highly anticipated project “SuperStar” on July 7th.

Big Trip Drops New Single “Descendant”

Less than a month removed from sharing the stage with Soulja Boy during his ‘Souja World’ tour stop in Nashville, athlete turned recording artist Big Trip taps Billboard chart-topping producer TwoFive for “Descendant.” The follow-up to “Just Bein Honest” serves as the first official leak from the seasoned rap act’s forthcoming full-length album and accurately gives fans a glimpse of what to expect from the yet-to-be-titled body of work.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the new single, Trip reveals:

“This release is one of my favorites to date and holds significance because it sets the tone of the upcoming project. After initially hearing the instrumental, I was immediately prompted to attack the track with a robust flow that amplifies the grit showcased throughout the lyrics. The song personifies the passion I have for music and the beautiful burden I feel to honorably continue my family legacy; out of respect for my father and the generations before him. I make it extremely clear this time around that I’m not to be played with.”

Brendan Tripodi BKA Big Trip is the frequency catching the music industry’s radar. Raised in Westchester County (New York), and residing in Tennessee, Trip was a baseball phenomenon before a horrible accident left him in a coma. After making a full recovery, he began his journey as a Hip-Hop artist. With the same competitive nature he possessed as an athlete, he pivoted to a professional career in Rap, debuting at #5 and #36 on the iTunes Hip-Hop chart and #105 on the Top 200.

Rapper Enchanting dies at 26

Enchanting died Tuesday at the age of 26, according to her sister, after the Texas-born rapper fought for her life in an intensive care unit.

A woman, whose name on Facebook is “Kayy Jayy,” identifies herself as the Fort Worth, Texas native’s sister, and posted a picture of herself and the rapper, with the caption, “I love you, girl,” followed by a broken heart emoji. Several reports cited an overdose as what necessitated the intensive care.

From the beginning on Monday, there had been premature reports of her death, which Kayy Jayy vehemently denied, demanding, “Can y’all stop posting until you have actual facts. She’s still fighting!! She’s not dead.” Several of her friends were quick to slam the premature reports.

But that all changed late Tuesday afternoon, when Enchanting, whose real name was Channing Nicole Larry, was removed from life support.

Other social media users took the moment to remind people how all of Gucci Mane’s original 1017 label members have either been to jail, got dropped from the label or died. Enchanting was dropped from the label less than a year ago. Big Scarr died in December 2022, and Pooh Shiesty, who is connected to the biggest hit connected to the label, “Back in Blood” is incarcerated.

Gucci Mane posted a picture of Enchanting on his Instagram page, adding, “So sad to have to say R.I.P to such a great young lady.” He called her “a true star” and declared “we gone all miss you Chant” followed by a crying emoji and a broken heart emoji.
