New Atlantis not cleared for landing in Starfield – What to do?

' src=

If you are doing the main mission, “One Small Step” in Starfield, then after the first planet you visit, the second planet you will be tasked to visit is called Jemison. On Jemison, you are supposed to go to New Atlantis. Now if you have been doing the main mission continuously without any pauses, then you shouldn’t have any issues. But if you are someone like me, who has taken some time to explore other planets before heading over to New Atlantis, you might get a pop-up on your screen saying “New Atlantis area not cleared for landing” when to try to land on New Atlantis. This guide will show you how to clear the area and land on New Atlantis:

How to Clear New Atlantis for Landing in Starfield

The thing is, if you have taken some time before visiting New Atlantis, you might face this issue, as there is a huge chance that you are trying to land on New Atlantis at the wrong time.

If you are getting the “Area not clear for landing” message on New Atlantis, then:

  • Just get up from your seat and go to the back of your ship.
  • Sit on one of the Jump Seats and select “Wait”.
  • Select 1 hour, and once you are done, go back and see if the patrol ships are back.
  • If they are, then they will clear you, and you will be able to land on New Atlantis.

That is all there is to it. You can use this method for every planet where you get this message while landing. The Jump Seat is nothing but a time-skip mechanic. You are just skipping time until someone arrives to scan your ship and clear you.

So, that is all on “How to Clear New Atlantis for landing in Starfield” If you think this guide has helped you, then let us know in the comment section below. Also, you can check out our other guides on Starfield . Good luck.

That’s all, folks!

How To Fast Travel In Starfield - All Methods And Tips

Head to different cities, planets, and star systems in Starfield.

By Jason Rodriguez on September 15, 2023 at 2:03PM PDT

It's important to know the different fast travel methods in Starfield . Given that there are numerous star systems and planets to visit, you'll definitely explore the far reaches of the galaxy. There's surprisingly a few ways to fast travel, and a few things to consider when using these methods. Our guide discusses the methods that you can use in the game.

How to fast travel in Starfield

The Starfield fast travel methods can be categorized into two types: local planet and star system grav jumps. The mechanic itself is unlocked early in the game, specifically once you need to do a mission on a planet called Kreet. However, more options open up when you arrive at New Atlantis, the capital of Jemison in the Alpha Centauri system.

Fast travel while on a planet

To fast travel in Starfield, all you need to do is open the menu and select the map in the upper-left section of the screen. The first map view shows the general points of interest on a planet or moon. Simply select a landmark, a landing area, or your ship to go to that location. It's worth noting that this won't work if you're in combat, if you're over-encumbered, or if inside another facility/area (i.e. a cave within a base).

In the image below, you can see that there are six fast travel spots in New Atlantis: the docking area, commercial district, residential district, MAST district, the Lodge, and your ship. If you back out of that selection group, you could see other outposts. Moreover, you can pick any area of the planet so you can land there quickly (as long as it's not on water).

There are multiple fast travel points in the city of New Atlantis and the planet of Jemison.

How to reach other star systems via grav jumps

The other Starfield fast travel method involves heading to other star systems. As usual, you'll open your map, and then back out until you see the galaxy view (i.e. star map). This lets you choose a different star system to go to. However, take note that you can only head directly to a star system if you've already discovered the path/node that it's connected to.

Similarly, the distance is affected by your ship's fuel and grav drive. Also, there may be instances when you'd have to do multiple jumps instead. You can learn more in our ship upgrades and modifications guide .

Gallery image 1

Likewise, heading to another star system requires you to do a grav jump. Here are some additional fast travel tips:

  • If you're in orbit, you have to allocate power (i.e. the little pips) to the grav drive (i.e. GRV) in the lower-left corner of your screen.
  • This might also require you to decrease the power allocated to other systems, such as weapons, engines, or shields.
  • The more power you allocate, the less time you need before the grav jump kicks in. For instance, with +3 power, the jump will occur after a four-second countdown.
  • This action can be done while you're in combat. In fact, this is almost a given if you end up getting attacked upon reaching another planet, and it's unlikely that you'd be able to defeat enemy forces.
  • If you're ready to fast travel to your active quest, you can "set course" and fast travel to the right star system (or docking station if you're on the right planet already) instantly with the click of one button in the pause menu. On Xbox controllers, this button is X by default.

Starfield is a massive game with numerous planets to explore. For other tips and tactics, you can visit our guides hub .

Starfield: New Atlantis location and guide

  • Author: Ryan Woodrow

Starfield ’s massive galaxy isn’t always the easiest to navigate, and when you don’t have quest markers pointing the way, it’s easy to forget which crucial locations are in which star systems. New Atlantis is the main hub city in the game. It’s home to the Constellation Lodge, so you’ll be returning to it throughout the entire main story, and you’ll want to come back here regularly for supplies.

To make sure you can always find your way home, we’ll show you New Atlantis’ location as well as a few important points of interest in the city.

New Atlantis location – Starfield

Starfield Star Map Alpha Centauri system

New Atlantis is on the planet Jemison in the Alpha Centauri system. It’s the closest system to the Sol system if you need a nearby reference point. The city is split into four different districts, and once you’ve discovered each one, you can fast-travel there directly from the star map, as well as the Lodge.

What to do in New Atlantis – Starfield

Starfield screenshot of New Atlantis.

Microsoft / Bethesda

Aside from Constellation’s main base, there are side quests galore in New Atlantis. Going into just about every shop and talking to every named character will result in getting a task to complete.

This is also where you can start the UC Vanguard questline by talking to the commander on at the desk in the lobby. Also, if you’re feeling in a more criminal mood, you can quite easily start Starfield's Crimson Fleet questline in New Atlantis too.

Jemison Mercantile – Where to sell stuff in Starfield

Starfield Jamison Mercantile

Jemison Merchantile is a store in the spaceport where you can buy ship parts in Starfield and buy Digipicks in Starfield very easily. If you're looking for somewhere to sell your (legal) items like weapons and spacesuits, Jemison Mercantile is the easiest place to go as it has a decent amount of cash to buy things with.

It's not the only place though, as the Trade Authority in The Well provides a similar service, although they will also let you sell contraband in Starfield . Popping up to the commercial district will get you more specialized stores, like ones for clothing, weaponry, and ammo.

This is just one part of a huge galaxy though, so check out our Starfield walkthrough for more.

How To Get To New Atlantis In Starfield

System Alpha Centauri

Fortunately, Alpha Centauri is close enough to Narion that you can reach it in a single jump without having to visit another system first.

Upon Reaching Alpha Centauri

Planet Jemison New Atlantis

  • Head to the planet Jemison within the Alpha Centauri system.
  • Expect a scan by the United Colonies to check for contraband upon arrival.
  • After passing the scan, you can land at the Spaceport in New Atlantis.

Once In New Atlantis Starfield

  • Explore the various districts within the city, such as the Commercial District, the MAST District, and the Residential District.
  • Each district offers interactions with different characters who may request your assistance.
  • Completing these tasks can be a rewarding way to earn experience and credits.

New Atlantis Exploring

New Atlantis features several distinct districts, each with its unique character and purpose, which include:

  • Commercial District
  • Residential District
  • MAST District
  • Spaceport.

To facilitate transportation within the city, there’s an efficient metro system known as New Atlantis Transit (NAT) that conveniently links to the spaceport.

Housing In New Atlantis

Housing opportunities within New Atlantis are exclusively available to UC Citizens. To obtain UC Citizenship and secure housing, you must accomplish a series of UC Vanguard Side Quests until a favorable arrangement is reached to earn your citizenship.

I’ve listed down the houses you can get in New Atlantis Starfield below:

House The Well

  • Location: The Well
  • Price: 30,000 credits
  • Requirements: Complete Friends Like These quest
  • Floor Space: Small

The accommodations at The Well, located in New Atlantis, may not be the most luxurious, but they are far from the worst in Starfield. You can acquire this residence from Zora , whose shop is near the MAST HQ .

However, please be aware that The Well consists of only two relatively modest rooms. Nevertheless, it serves as adequate storage space.

Additionally, while you’re residing here, you have the opportunity to contribute to improvements, such as participating in the Alternating Currents Starfield quest.

Mercury Tower Penthouse

"</p

  • Location: Residential District
  • Price: Free
  • Requirements: Complete A Legacy Forged quest
  • Floor Space: Large

Mercury Tower Penthouse stands out as the premier player residence in Starfield, and it doesn’t even have any close competitors. It has an abundance of space, both in the primary living area and within several secondary rooms, all of which hold significant potential.

What’s more, it offers not just one, but two balconies. On one side, you can enjoy the view of Jemison’s natural beauty, while on the other, you have a vantage point over nearly the entire New Atlantis Starfield.

To secure this exceptional house, make it a priority to embark on the UC Vanguard questline as early as possible. It serves as a fitting reward upon completing the A Legacy Forged in Starfield quest.

New Atlantis is home to three potential companions that you can discover and enlist as valuable additions to your crew in Starfield. Surprisingly, you can find all recruitable companions of New Atlantis in one place, The Viewport .

Marika Boros

"companion

  • Location: The Viewport, New Atlantis
  • Romance: No
  • Payment Required: Yes
  • Skills: Shotgun Certification ★, Ballistics ★ ★, Particle Beam Weapon Systems ★

Marika Boros is among the recruitable companions you can encounter at Starport. Although her skill set may not be as extensive as that of main characters like the members of Constellation, she possesses several combat-oriented skills that are valuable both on the ground and as a member of your starship crew.

  • Go to The Viewport in Starfield New Atlantis.
  • Locate Marika and engage in a conversation with her.
  • Initially, she will quote her recruitment price.
  • Offer to pay her the full amount to have her join your crew.
  • Alternatively, persuade her successfully to reduce her recruitment cost by half.

Simeon Bankowski

"companion

  • Skills: Sharpshooting ★, Sniper Certification ★ ★, Marksmanship ★

Simeon Bankowski, a weapons specialist , boasts combat-related skills that can significantly aid you in battle. To fully utilize his potential, it’s essential to have him follow you.

When it comes to combat, Simeon Bankowski is undoubtedly the top companion choice. If your goal is to efficiently eliminate enemy encampments, Bankowski is the ideal companion for the job.

  • Locate The Viewport by turning left upon exiting the Spaceport in New Atlantis.
  • Approach Simeon Bankowski and engage in conversation to recruit him.
  • While his initial recruitment price is steep, you can persuade him to halve it successfully.
  • Enhance your persuasion chances by consuming food or drink with a persuasion boost just before negotiating with him .

Gideon Aker

"companion

  • Skills: Ballistic Weapon Systems ★ ★, Missile Weapon Systems ★ ★

Gideon Aker comes at a high cost for recruitment, but you can also cut his price in half with a successful persuasion attempt.

While Gideon Aker may be expensive to bring aboard, he offers valuable skills that enhance your ship’s weapon proficiency . If you decide to recruit him, it’s advisable to assign him to your ship’s crew.

  • Visit The Viewport located in New Atlantis, which can be reached by turning left upon exiting the Spaceport in Starfield.
  • Engage in a conversation with Gideon Aker and express your willingness to meet his recruitment terms.
  • Upon agreeing to a reasonable price, Gideon will readily become a member of your crew.

How to grav jump in your ship in Starfield and warp to locations like Kreet and Jemison

How to Grav Jump to Jemison

Performing a grav jump in Starfield is essential for reaching new planets and star systems that you've not previously visited - from Kreet to Jemison to Neon, Akila, Sol to name a few. However, grav jumping comes with some important rules and limitations, mainly that you need enough fuel and a sufficiently powerful Grav Drive to reach a destination, and you can't fast travel across undiscovered routes. Furthermore, initiating a grav jump isn't the most intuitive system in Starfield , and it can be a little confusing. To help you out I've explained how to grav jump in Starfield below, so you can fast travel to new worlds in the Settled Systems.

How to grav jump in Starfield

starfield grav jump

To fly in Starfield and reach unexplored worlds and systems, players need to use the Gravity Drive to "Grav Jump" , effectively a form of Starfield fast travel that is necessary to reach planets and star systems that you've not previously visited. Here's the simple explanation of how to fly to a new world in Starfield using a grav jump:

  • Fly into open space on your ship by getting into the pilot seat and choosing to "take off" with Y.
  • Once in space, pause the game and open the "Starmap" in the top left corner. You can also hold the pause button to open the Starmap directly.
  • Use the Galaxy map to select a system or world you want to fly to, then select "Set Course." Alternatively, click on an objective in your missions and choose "Set course" if you need to get somewhere specific.
  • A menu of travel data will come up showing you the route you'll take between star systems to reach your destination. Assuming the destination is in your ship's jump and fuel range, you can hold X to "Jump".
  • Now distribute power to the "GRV" section of your ship using the D-pad.
  • Your ship's Grav Drive will start charging with a countdown. The more power you allocate to GRV, the faster this will happen.
  • Once it's done charging, you will jump to your destination!
  • From here, you can point at the planet and hold X to open the "Planet Map" and choose where on it you want to land your ship.

And that's it! Keep in mind that now that you've grav jumped to a new system or planet, you can use regular fast travel to quickly journey to other explored worlds without performing a proper grav jump as long as you have the fuel to make it. If you don't have enough range or fuel, you need to jump to a star system closer to your intended destination first. However, if you're flying to a new location, you have to follow the above steps yourself. Importantly, if your route requires you to jump between multiple star systems, including to systems you've not visited, this counts as an unexplored route. This means you'll have to take it step by step and jump to each unexplored system to complete the route and eventually reach your intended destination. As you can imagine, that gets rather time-consuming, so it's important to have a good Grav Drive and Fuel Tanks.

Fuel and Jump Range in Starfield explained

Starfield fly grav jump range

Starfield scanner distortions How to change appearance in Starfield Starfield Biomes How to dock in Starfield and board ships How to steal ships in Starfield

Ships in Starfield can't grav jump any distance - they have a max limit for each jump determined by your ship's Grav Drive and Fuel Tanks.

Grav Drives determine how far you can travel in a single jump - in other words, a direct route from one planet or system to another. Grav Drives with a low grav jump thrust value can't travel very far in a single jump, which means some systems will be entirely out of reach, or can only be reached with a long series of short-range jumps. Alternatively, high-thrust grav drives let you travel much further in a single jump, generally making space travel much easier as your routes will consist of greater jumps and fewer of them.

Meanwhile, Fuel Tanks control how far you can jump on a single route . Essentially the more fuel you have the further you can go in general, not just between systems as with a Grav Drive. Even if you have a low-thrust Grav Drive, you can still travel great distances if you've got a massive fuel limit, though it means your routes will involve lots of little jumps.

Overall, if you want to improve how far you can go, you need to upgrade your Grav Drive and install new fuel tanks via the Starfield ship customization system. You can have only one Grav Drive, but you can install multiple fuel tanks (bear in mind this affects ship weight too). You also don't need to worry about refueling as ships in Starfield never run out of fuel . Finally, upgrading the Astrodynamics skill, which is one of the Science Starfield skills improves both Grav Drive range and fuel consumption for grav jumps will massively help too.

Starfield fly grav jump

The first time you grav jump in the game is to Jemison, to the city of New Atlantis and the headquarters of Constellation. If you want some help, here's the easiest way to do it:

  • Get into the Frontier ship and choose to "Take off".
  • Once in space, open the "missions" section from the pause menu, at the bottom.
  • Select "One Small Step", and then click on the "Grav Jump to Jemison" objective.
  • Press X to mark your destination: Jemison in the Alpha Centauri system.
  • Hold X on the Starmap to start the Grav Drive.
  • Power up GRV and you'll head to Jemison's orbit!
  • After being scanned by the local ships to make sure you're not a criminal, aim at the planet and press X to open a map of it.
  • Select the city of "New Atlantis" and hold X to land there.
  • You will then land at the New Atlantis spaceport. Welcome to a new world!

How To Complete A Tree Grows In New Atlantis Quest In Starfield

Quick links, travel to new atlantis, where to find the four bio-sensors, how to get back the bio sensor from the uc distribution center, returning the bio sensors to kelton.

Humanity at the time of Starfield's Narrative is a time of piracy, uneasy politics, and exploration; after the war between the Freestar Collective and the United Colonies, humanity has returned to scientific discovery. During A Tree Grows In New Atlantis quest, Kelton Frush, a scientist researching the trees that surround New Atlantis, makes a troubling discovery.

Related: Starfield: Loose Ends Quest Walkthrough

A Tree Grows In New Atlantis can be picked up on your first visit to New Atlantis, and it's a good idea to complete since the quest will get you accustomed to navigating each district in New Atlantis. Moreover, you'll also earn XP and a sizable amount of credits!

When you first visit New Atlantis, there is a high chance that you will pick up the “Talk to the scientist by the tree” activity after hearing a UC Security Guard talking about the scientist.

You’ll find the scientist Kelton Frush and the giant tree in front of the MAST District Tram ramp . Kelton will explain that he needs you to retrieve the bio-sensors that he fitted to trees around New Atlantis.

Once you accept to help Kelton, each of the four bio-sensors will be marked on your map . Considering the Starfield map is a bit of a shambles, you can acquire information on their locations by talking to Kelton.

We learn that Kelton has discovered that a large portion of the tree has liquefied. He explains that while some degree of liquid is normal for the tree to transport nutrients, Kelton is fearful of any side effects that could put New Atlantis in danger.

We learn from talking to Kelton that the four bio-sensors have been scattered throughout New Atlantis , requiring you to travel all over the city.

Where To Find Constellation Lodge Bio Sensor

The first bio-sensor is found outside of the Constellation Lodge entrance , resting by a tree. This should be the first bio-sensors you pick up, as it’s a short walk up the steps from Kelton and past the double helix statue .

Where To Find Residential Shops Bio-Sensor

You'll find the next bio-sensor by walking from the Lodge past Reliant Medical and walking over to the tree on the other side of the MAST District Lake .

Where To Find New Atlantis Corporate Park Bio-Sensor

The third bio-sensor is found in the New Atlantis Corporate Park found in the Residential District . Walk past the Mercury Tower building, and you'll find the bio-sensor in the tree opposite the Chunks food store .

Where To Find Commercial District Bio-Sensor

Once you arrive in the Commercial District, walk up the ramp to the floor above Terrabrew Coffee and talk to Jorden Anchali to learn that he found the bio-sensor and sold it to Tseng in the UC Distribution Center .

Enter the UC Distribution Center and tell Tseng that the bio-sensor is equipment for some important scientific research. She will explain that she needs to make a profit to recoup her losses after buying it from Jorden Anchali. To get the bio-sensors back, you can either purchase it from Tseng for 100 credits or steal it from the office.

There is one UC Security guard who will guard the office. However, you can easily take the bio-sensor once they leave the room.

With all four bio-sensors in hand, it is time to head back to Kelton and the big tree in the MAST District.

Kelton will extract the information from the bio-sensors, revealing that there is indeed a problem. The tree emits ultra-low frequency sound waves, steadily increasing without any idea of the scale to which the frequency will grow. Kelton believes it could spell disaster for the people of New Atlantis leading into the “Out On A Limb” mission .

You’ll receive a humble reward of 100 XP, and a sum of credits determined by your level for completing A Tree Grows In New Atlantis Quest.

To start the Out On A Limb Mission, you must wait twenty-four hours before speaking to Kelton Frush again.

Starfield: How To Get A Home In New Atlantis

It'll be useful to have a place while you go on your space adventures.

Quick Links

What homes are available in new atlantis, where to find aphelion reality in new atlantis, how to get the well apartment in new atlantis, how to get the mercury tower penthouse home in new atlantis.

Starfield has over a thousand planets to explore, so it’s important that you establish a few homes around the galaxy. And what better place to do so than New Atlantis? You must jump a few hoops with the UC to get a home there. After all, the UC doesn’t just let anyone become a UC Citizen.

Related: Starfield: How To Get A Home In Neon

New Atlantis is the capital city of Jemison and is found in the Alpha Centauri system. You’ll constantly be visiting New Atlantis during your space exploration adventure, and as the Constellation's main headquarters resides in the city, it makes sense to establish a home here.

There are three homes you can acquire in New Atlantis:

  • The Lodge - A room in the Lodge is given to you during the Old Neighborhood main story quest after completing the One Small Step mission .
  • The Well Apartment - The Well Apartment is purchased from Aphelion Reality for 30,000 credits and requires you to become a UC Citizen .
  • Mercury Tower Penthouse - The Mercury Tower Penthouse is acquired by becoming a UC Class A Citizen and by talking to Zora at Aphelion Reality .

While you won’t be able to decorate your Lodge room since it doesn’t count as an actual player home, it’s a great way to establish a base on New Atlantis. The Room contains a safe with infinite storage, and all five crafting stations can be found in the basement.

All homes in New Atlantis are unfurnished , requiring you to add furniture and crafting stations using the decorating feature inside the apartment.

New Atlantis has plenty of signs and information boards to help you navigate the city; however, it can be confusing for the first-time visitor. Aphelion Reality is the New Atlantis estate agency and can be found in between the Freestar Collective Embassy and the MAST Building .

The Well Apartment requirements:

  • Be a UC Citizen
  • 30,000 Credits

The Well Apartment isn’t in a prime location, but owning a house in this underground district is a good idea since there are plenty of services and quests to complete in this area.

You must become a UC Citizen before the apartment in the Well becomes accessible to you. To do this, you must join the UC Vanguard and complete the “Friends Like These” UC faction quest .

Once you’ve completed the Friends Like These UC mission, you’ll be granted UC citizenship and subsequently unlock the estate agents service at Aphelon Reality in the MAST District .

Talk to Zora Sangweni, the estate agent at Aphelon Reality , and ask about the available homes in New Atlantis. If you are a UC citizen, the Well apartment will be available to purchase for 30,000 credits .

The Well Apartment is a cozy little apartment located directly above Jake's Bar on the upper level of the Well .

The Well home has a spacious kitchen, albeit a small cooking stove and cooking area, but makes up for this with a surprisingly large first floor and balcony that wraps around the exterior.

The apartment also features a small bathroom and tiny bedroom, reminiscing of the old Megaton house from Fallout 3.

Despite both apartments including a cooking stove, they are purely cosmetic and cannot be used to craft food items . So you’ll need to place a Cooking Station in your house if you plan on crafting food.

How to complete The Best There Is in Starfield

Image of Jason Venter

In Starfield, most of your adventures can relate to the challenges you set for yourself. Here is our guide telling you how to complete The Best There Is mission in  Starfield .

Starfield – how to complete The Best There Is faction mission

Working for the Crimson Fleet , while serving as a double agent, gets you in some pretty tight spots. You have to decide where your loyalties lie, while working alongside people who might kill you if they knew what you’re thinking. To complete The Best There Is, you must raid the SY-920 space station and steal research built into a prototype ship.

Your mission only becomes available once you have completed the Breaking the Bank faction mission. Before you get to work, you should have the Security skill unlocked and sufficiently upgraded that you can pick Expert locks. It’s also not a bad idea to bring along healing items, just in case. As with most missions, try to start without a lot of excess materials in your inventory. It’s important to travel light.

Starfield Best There Is Meet Naeva And Jasmine On The Key

Meet Naeva and Jasmine on the Key

Fast-travel to the Key. When you arrive, Dock and head inside. Follow the quest markers to find Naeva Mora and Jasmine Durand (also known as Jazz ) talking in a room downstairs. Eavesdrop for a bit. Then, speak to Naeva . She tells you about a contact named Huan Daiyu , who you will meet in New Atlantis . The idea is that Huan will lead you to the research you need to steal by the end of this mission: the ComSpike .

Starfield Best There Is Meet Huan Daiyu In New Atlantis

Meet Huan Daiyu in New Atlantis

Fast-travel to New Atlantis. Once you arrive, follow mission markers to reach The Well . This is an underground portion of the city that I missed noticing for my first few dozen hours of play. The game leads you to an elevator at the end of a corridor next to Jemison Mercantile , which in turn leads you to the underground area.

Related: How to get to The Well in Starfield

In The Well, follow the mission marker to find Huan Daiyu. She waits on an upper balcony, so you need to climb some steps to reach her. Once you find her, speak to Huan Daiyu to earn her trust. Then you receive your next objective.

Starfield Best There Is Meet Huan On The Jade Swan

Meet Huan on the Jade Swan

Exit The Well and head to the Spaceport. Get there however you like. The mission markers guide you, if you’re not yet comfortable in New Atlantis. Huan’s ship, the Jade Swan , has been docked on one of the pads.

Board the Jade Swan and make your way to its cockpit area. I’m terrific at getting lost on nearly every ship I visit, including the Jade Swan. You can turn on your Scanner to produce arrows that lead you through the ship, if you suffer from a similar affliction. You will discover Huan waiting near the pilot’s seat. When you talk to Huan, she cautions you to finish up any other chores you might have. You’re going on a trip and can’t conveniently return to New Atlantis and your ship until after you complete the mission. The warning sounds more ominous than it really is. You should be able to complete this mission without bloodshed.

Travel with Huan to SY-920

Confirm you are ready to visit SY-920 . A scene follows. Sit in one of the seats in the cockpit, if you like, and enjoy the ride while listening to some banter. You need to wait for the Jade Swan to dock and then you should speak to Huan again.

When you talk to Huan after docking, she tells you more about the mission. Then you can wander back through the Jade Swan and find an exit hatch to board SY-920 . You have now completed the easy portion of the mission. The mission’s remainder takes place with less in the way of direct assistance.

Starfield Best There Is Gain Access To The Barracks To Find A Uniform

Gain access to the barracks to find a uniform

When you arrive on SY-920, look for the barracks. Unfortunately, you can’t simply walk to them because guards will take notice and question you. Instead, you must get creative.

Head forward from the entrance but veer left and descend to the lower level (there’s a lift you can ride, if you wish). In one corner of that lower area, find a Door (Locked) . Next to it is a device you can use to speak to Huan , which satisfies an optional objective. There are workers nearby, including two UC Cargo Hauler characters. If you talk to them, you will receive an optional objective advising you to talk to Elijah .

Starfield Best There Is Sy 920 Maintenance Keycard

Find Elijah Schilling near some containers. Talk to him and ask ‘ Where haven’t you looked? ‘ to learn he hasn’t yet checked a nearby forklift. Head around some shelving to find the forklift. A UC Marine stands in front of it. Tell him someone wants to talk to him. He’ll wander away. Then you can grab the SY-920 Maintenance Keycard resting on the machine.

Take the keycard to the locked door you found, near the corner of the area. Use the keycard to open the door and receive your next objective.

Starfield Best There Is First Vent In Storage Room

Find an ensign uniform

Move quickly through this area. Before you even start, you may wish to manually save your progress. If someone spots you as you search for the uniform, they may raise the alarm. Then you would have to shoot your way out of a secured area. Not good.

Follow the hall forward and to the right to find a door to Storage. Enter the door and veer left as you proceed. You will spot a large vent along the wall. Enter the vent to immediately activate the ‘ enter the command bay ‘ objective, which you should ignore for the moment. Ahead, you will see a Vent (Locked) .

Starfield Best There Is Find An Ensign Uniform

Turn left ahead of that locked vent. Ascend in that direction and follow the corridor as it twists right to yet another vent. Push through that vent and emerge in a restroom with several stalls. At the room’s far end, pass through a door and emerge in a new corridor. Follow the corridor to the door indicated by the mission marker.

Enter the door to find Ensign Ziremi’s Uniform resting on a table next to a computer terminal. Equip the uniform. It won’t stop every guard from viewing you as a threat. I learned this the hard way, when I backtracked to the starting area and everyone started shooting at me. However, the uniform will help with the next leg of your journey through the facility.

Starfield Best There Is Enter The Command Bay

Enter the command bay

Now that you have acquired the uniform, backtrack to the vent system. This time, you should make your way to the Vent (Locked) that you ignored previously. It’s now along a shaft leading to your left as you descend. Use a digipick to open the locked vent (remember: this requires that you have the skill to open Expert locks). Cross to the far side of the next room and access the ID Card Reader . You will open the door and gain access to the command bay.

Starfield Best There Is Find Information On The Comspike Stairs Near Vent

Find information on the Comspike

Start working your way through the command bay. As you head right along the corridor, keep an eye on your surroundings. You will find an Intercom to speak to Huan . It is situated on the wall to the right, ahead of the open area. Your conversation should prompt an optional objective asking you to find a ventilation shaft .

Proceed through the next room. Past the supply shelf, veer right to find another door. Keep going in that direction, past some tool chests, and watch for a set of stairs ascending along a wall to your left. Climb those metal stairs to a higher platform, which you can follow to reach another Vent .

Starfield Best There Is Find Information On The Comspike Vent Tubes Along Ceiling

Enter the vent. Follow it to arrive at an opening looking out at some narrow platforms. They are smaller vent tubes. Shimmy (carefully) along these. I moved along them at a snail’s pace to avoid dropping into the lower room and startling workers. You might want to save your progress before you start this effort. I made the whole journey to the other side of the room without any errors, but it was tense going.

At the far side of the room, access another Vent. Through that vent, proceed a short distance to reach a square opening in the metal floor. Drop through that opening and take a few steps forward to reach the Data Access Computer .

Starfield Best There Is Find Information On The Comspike Data Access Computer In Office

Review the materials on the Data Access Computer. Start by choosing UCE-86 ComSpike . Then select Upgrade Security Clearance . Next, choose Project Lead and Permissions . The other materials seem to be unnecessary. When you have reviewed everything relevant, you receive your next objective.

Go to Engineering Bay 4

Enter the door near the Data Access computer. It leads to a red door with a ‘Secure Access’ label. To its right, check the Emergency Access Computer mounted on the wall. Use the Open Door command and enter the next corridor.

Follow the corridor to arrive at one edge of an office area with cubicles. Follow the outer wall and proceed into the next area. If you get a little lost, remember that you can pull up your Scanner again and it will point out a route to your destination. The people you meet here shouldn’t shoot at you, since you are dressed in the uniform you found. Continue through the area, along a couple of long hallways, and finally you will arrive at your destination. Use the ID Card Reader to gain access to the lift, which carries you to the lower floor.

Starfield Best There Is Locate The Comspike Vogel Viewed Through Window

Locate the ComSpike

Step out of the lift and follow the hallway leading left. Watch the left wall, where you can find an intercom to speak to Huan again. She offers some final advice. Then you’re truly on your own for the next little bit.

Proceed through an area that looks like a cafe with a long counter and barstools. Keep going past there, through more of the complex, until you finally can descend to a lower area that resembles a traditional office environment. Keep going as the mission marker directs you and you’ll finally spot a room with a large window. You can see a man standing in the corner. Here, I suggest saving your progress . Then you should enter the room.

Talk to the man inside, Dr. Gabriel Vogel. This conversation can go a variety of ways. There’s a bit of opening discussion before you get to pressure him to let you have the ComSpike. Now that you know where it is, you need to take the next steps.

Starfield Best There Is Arrange A Test Flight On The Prototype

Arrange a test flight on the prototype

As the conversation progresses, you have options. Although it is possible to satisfy an optional objective if you betray Huan to divert attention , I don’t recommend doing so. Instead, you should Persuade the good doctor that you are a pilot sent to test the prototype. This attempt may fail, depending how lucky you are. In that case, you can simply load your most recent manual save and try again.

Once you persuade Dr. Vogel, head for the prototype. You have two optional objectives along the way: find a pilot uniform and find a route to bypass the checkpoint .

Starfield Best There Is Calibrated Sy 920 Pilot Spacesuit

To find a uniform, look not far from the office where you met Dr. Vogel. Head around toward the right, and just stick to the wall on your right as it curves around and leads to a locker room. Enter the locker room and veer slightly left to find the Calibrated Sy-920 Pilot Spacesuit in a briefcase resting on a bench. Equip it.

Head back into the previous room and cross the hallway to find a small office where a UC Marine Sergeant is writing a report at his desk. He addresses you through a window. Tell him that, ‘ I’m expected. Dr. Vogel gave the approval. ‘ This should do the trick, and you will receive your next objectives.

Starfield Best There Is Uc Marine Sergeant

Escape SY-920 in the prototype ship

Continue past the office window and proceed into a hangar area. Ahead, you’ll see a high office on the upper level. You need to access that upper room to schedule a test flight .

Near the base of the high wall, look for a door with a sign to its side that indicates ‘ Flight Control Restricted Area .’ Enter the door and climb the stairs. Pass through another door to enter the high room, where you can check the Flight Control Computer . Once you access it, enter the ‘ Select Project to Add ‘ option and then choose ‘ Project: UCE-86 ComSpike ‘ to authorize your impending flight.

Starfield Best There Is Flight Control Restricted Area

Return downstairs and follow the mission marker. It takes you to a hatch door, which you can enter by using the ID Card Reader . On the far end of that short hall, enter the next door to board the Prototype Ship . Inside that vessel, head to the cockpit and settle into the Pilot Seat . Finally, Undock to receive your next mission objective.

Starfield Best There Is Return To The Key Huan Gives You Bogs Grog

Return to the Key

Fast-travel to the Key. You can select it from the list of current mission objectives, rather than searching your Starmap . You will have to designate energy to your ship’s Grav Drive to make the jump. I reallocated some of the energy that had been assigned to the engine. When you arrive at your destination, dock with the vessel and board it.

At the Key, you have a few final objectives. First up, you should speak to Huan at the Last Nova . Have a drink with her and you’ll receive the Bog’s Grog . Consider it your reward for not betraying her.

Next up, speak to Delgado . You’ll find him upstairs, not far from the top of the lift. Talk to him and Naeva and answer their questions however you wish. In the end, you will receive the mission’s final objective.

Starfield Best There Is Proceed To The Uc Vigilance

Proceed to the UC Vigilance

Fast travel to the UC Vigilance. Once you arrive, make your way to the deck to speak to Commander Ikande . He will be thoroughly pleased with how your mission went, since you avoided casualties and achieved the desired result with minimal fuss. Exhaust the dialog options and finally, you will receive your mission rewards: 15,600 credits , 250 XP , and an achievement with the same name the mission itself bears. You also activate the Absolute Power mission, but there’s no rule saying you have to get to work on it immediately.

Dubai flooding hobbles major airport's operations as "historic weather event" brings torrential rains to UAE

Updated on: April 17, 2024 / 5:57 PM EDT / CBS/AP

Dubai, United Arab Emirates  — The desert nation of the United Arab Emirates attempted to dry out Wednesday from the heaviest rain ever recorded there after a deluge flooded out Dubai International Airport, disrupting travel through the world's busiest airfield for international travel. The state-run WAM news agency called the rain Tuesday "a historic weather event" that surpassed "anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949."

The rains began late Monday, soaking the sands and roadways of Dubai with some 0.79 inches of rain, according to meteorological data collected at Dubai International Airport. The storms intensified around 9 a.m. local time Tuesday and continued throughout the day, dumping more rain and hail onto the overwhelmed city.

Flooding impacts Dubai International Airport

By the end of Tuesday, more than 5.59 inches of rainfall had soaked Dubai over 24 hours. An average year sees just 3.73 inches of rain fall at Dubai International Airport, a hub for the long-haul carrier Emirates.

At the airport, standing water lapped on taxiways as aircraft landed. Arrivals were halted Tuesday night and passengers struggled to reach terminals through the floodwater covering surrounding roads.

TOPSHOT-UAE-BAHRAIN-OMAN-WEATHER-FLOOD

The airport said in a  series of social media posts  that all operations were halted for about 25 minutes on Tuesday afternoon and that all arrivals would be diverted after that "until the weather conditions improve." Late Wednesday morning, the airport and the flagship carrier Emirates were still warning travelers not to come to the airport unless absolutely necessary, saying all flight check-in was still suspended.

"Flights continue to be delayed and diverted. Please check your flight status directly with your airline," the airport said in a tweet. "We are working hard to recover operations as quickly as possible in very challenging conditions."

One couple, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity in a country with strict laws that criminalize critical speech, called the situation at the airport "absolute carnage."

"You cannot get a taxi. There's people sleeping in the Metro station. There's people sleeping in the airport," the man said Wednesday.

They ended up getting a taxi to near their home some 18 miles away, but floodwater on the road stopped them. A bystander helped them over a highway barrier with their carry-on luggage, the bottles of gin they picked up from a duty-free store clinking away.

UAE-BAHRAIN-OMAN-WEATHER-FLOOD

Paul Griffiths, the airport's CEO, acknowledged continued issues with flooding Wednesday morning, saying every place an aircraft could be safely parked was taken. Some aircraft had been diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central, the city-state's second airfield.

"It remains an incredibly challenging time. In living memory, I don't think anyone has ever seen conditions like it," Griffiths told the state-owned talk radio station Dubai Eye. "We are in uncharted territory, but I can assure everyone we are working as hard as we possibly can to make sure our customers and staff are looked after."

Did "cloud-seeding" contribute?

Rain also fell in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. However, the rains were acute across the UAE. One reason may have been " cloud seeding ," in which small planes flown by the government go through clouds burning special salt flares. Those flares can increase precipitation.

Several reports quoted meteorologists at the National Center for Meteorology as saying they flew six or seven cloud-seeding flights before the rains. The center did not immediately respond to questions Wednesday, though flight-tracking data analyzed by the AP showed one aircraft affiliated with the UAE's cloud-seeding efforts flew around the country Sunday.

The UAE, which relies heavily on energy-hungry desalination plants to provide water, conducts cloud seeding in part to increase its dwindling, limited groundwater.

Flooding closes schools across UAE

Schools across the UAE, a federation of seven sheikhdoms, largely shut ahead of the storm and government employees were largely working remotely if they could. Many workers stayed home as well, though some ventured out, with the unfortunate ones stalling out their vehicles in deeper-than-expected water covering some roads.

Heavy rains over Dubai

Authorities sent tanker trucks out into the streets and highways to pump away the water. Water poured into some homes, forcing people to bail out their houses.

The country's hereditary rulers offered no overall damage or injury information for the nation, as some people slept in their flooded vehicles Tuesday night. In Ras al-Khaimah, the country's northernmost emirate, police said a 70-year-old man died when his vehicle was swept away by floodwater.

Fujairah, an emirate on the UAE's eastern coast, saw the heaviest rainfall Tuesday with 5.7 inches falling there.

Authorities canceled school and the government instituted remote work again for Wednesday.

Rain is unusual in the UAE, an arid, Arabian Peninsula nation, but occurs periodically during the cooler winter months. Many roads and other areas lack drainage given the lack of regular rainfall, causing flooding.

Meanwhile in neighboring Oman, a sultanate that rests on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, at least 19 people were killed in heavy rains in recent days, according to a statement Wednesday from the country's National Committee for Emergency Management. That includes some 10 schoolchildren swept away in a vehicle with an adult, prompting condolences from rulers across the region.

Heavy rains over Dubai

Climatologists have warned for years that human-driven climate change is fueling more extreme and less predictable weather events across the globe.

Parts of southern Russia and Central Asia have also been dealing for days with unusually damaging amounts of rainfall and snowmelt, forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate to higher ground and killing more than 60 people in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Fjords, Pharaohs or Koalas? Time to Plan for Your Next Eclipse.

If you can’t get enough of totality, or missed out this time, you’ll have three more chances in the next four years in destinations like Iceland, Spain, Egypt and Australia.

  • Share full article

A small, black disk surrounded by a bright, white halo suspended in a mostly dark sky over the still waters of a lake in which dim, golden light from the horizon is reflecting. There are dark hills and mountains beyond the lake.

By Danielle Dowling

Are you still a little giddy from the magical moments of totality during Monday’s solar eclipse? Or did clouds swoop in to block your view? Maybe you just couldn’t make it to the path of totality this time. No matter what, the question now is “ Where and when will it happen again?”

“People who have never seen it before, the first words out of their mouth after the totality ends is ‘I’ve got to see another one, this is incredible, this is unbelievable.’ That is when you become addicted to these things and end up traveling no matter where the next one is,” said Joseph Rao, an eclipse chaser and guest lecturer at the Hayden Planetarium.

So, if like Mr. Rao, you’ve developed a raging case of umbraphilia — the love of eclipses — you’ll have three chances over the next four years to see the moon blot out the sun. The first, on Aug. 12, 2026, will start above Greenland, then strafe the west coast of Iceland and move along the Atlantic Ocean and over Spain. Almost a year later, on Aug. 2, 2027, another will skirt the Mediterranean coast of North Africa then cross Egypt and part of the Arabian Peninsula. The third, on July 22, 2028, will cut across Australia and the southern tip of New Zealand.

Future Eclipses

Eclipse chasers will have several more chances this decade to view a total solar eclipse .

can't travel to new atlantis

Last week, as Victoria Sahami , the owner of Sirius Travel , was preparing to guide a group of tourists in Mazatlán, Mexico, for Monday’s big event, she was also planning for these other upcoming eclipses. Ms. Sahami joined the ranks of the eclipse-obsessed when she witnessed one in Venezuela in the 1990s. “Like many people, I was hooked. There was no going back,” she said.

Total solar eclipses happen fairly regularly — about every one to two years — in locations scattered around the world. “That’s the great thing about them: You wind up in places that you don’t normally go,” Ms. Sahami said.

A major spoiler is weather, which will be a big variable in the 2026 eclipse — one Greenland, Iceland and Spain will see.

“Iceland normally has a lot of cloud during that time of year,” said Paul Maley , who runs Ring of Fire Expeditions . “The data shows Spain to have the higher good-weather prospects of all three. However, the sun is low in the sky and the eclipse ends as the sun hits the horizon at sunset.”

Because of Iceland’s mercurial meteorology, Ring of Fire Expeditions is going all in on Spain, with a 10-day excursion on the mainland. Sirius Travel is offering not only a five-day trip to Majorca but also an eight-day tour around Iceland. It will be based in Reykjavik, and the itinerary will remain flexible on the day of the eclipse so the tour can easily pivot toward the location with the least cloud cover. Ms. Sahami recommends the trip for those who already have a few eclipses under their belt and would be happy just to take in the sights of Iceland if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The 2027 eclipse, on the other hand, promises to be truly stellar: Luxor, Egypt — the site of numerous ancient temples as well as the Valleys of the Kings and Queens — sits right in the middle of the path of totality and will be bathed in darkness for a full 6 minutes 23 seconds. Weather-wise, it is what Ms. Sahami called “a slam dunk.” “You know you’re going to see it. You know that you’re not going to get any clouds,” she said.

But for all its potential, those considering Egypt should be aware that the State Department has a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” warning for the country because of the risk of terrorism.

The 2028 eclipse will darken the skies over Sydney, Australia, for 3 minutes 49 seconds. It will be the first time the city has experienced a total solar eclipse since 1857. Ms. Sahami has her eyes on a trip based out of there, while Mr. Maley has chartered a cruise ship off the northwest coast of Australia. It will be winter there, he said, but that isn’t likely to mean bad eclipse-viewing weather.

If you want to see any (or all) of these eclipses, you should get started on planning and booking now, particularly if you want to sign up for a trip organized by a tour company. One of Sirius Travel’s excursions to Luxor is already full.

Scrutinize refund policies and look into insuring your trip. Several companies will fully refund your deposit if you cancel a year in advance. A lot can happen, Ms. Sahami said, “but if you think you’re going to go, why not?”
