Israel is the land of the bible and holy to three great religions. Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Jesus was born in Israel and led his miraculous life in the holy land. Bethlehem, Nazareth, Capernaum, the Sea of Galilee are all real places in Israel that you can visit and walk where Jesus walked. Jerusalem, the cave of the patriarchs, the temple mount, Armageddon, via Dolorosa, Tiberias, the Jordan River and many other places noted in the bible are beautiful places to hold worships and connect to new meanings. Israel has a very hot summer and a cool winter. The terrain ranges from high, green mountains in the North to arid desert in the south, a Mediterranean coastline with sandy beaches in the west and the phenomenal Dead Sea and Judean Desert in the east. Israel is a small, very special area that is easily crossed in one day! All the way from green mountains to hot desert! The best times to visit are either in the spring between March and May or in the autumn in October-November. These times are best for weather, for avoiding crowds and best opportunities for good rates on flights and accommodation.

Tours to the Holy Land: Trips & Israel Tour Packages 2024, 2025
"Every place we visited was breathtakingly beautiful, with stunning landscapes and rich historical and cultural heritage. We highly recommend visiting Israel to anyone who wants to experience an unforgettable journey. We had a life-changing time there and are already planning to return." Simon L. and Beatriz G. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024 "I had a wonderful time in Israel. I felt while I was there the precautions that were taken for our safety were well in hand. I still got to experience many holy sites and be blessed by walking the path that Jesus walked. Every day was started in prayer, singing, or scripture reading which also extended the blessing of the trip." Quincie L. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024
Our Israel tours & Holy Land tours of 9-24 days for the Evangelical Protestant Bible believer are what Pilgrim Tours does best. Prepare yourself for a life-changing journey to walk where Jesus walked and visit Jerusalem, Galilee, & Samaria. Each of our Israel tours is led by a local guide who is an experienced expert on the historical, cultural, scenic, and spiritual history of the Holy Land. If you travel with 10 or more people, a private group tour can easily be arranged. Pilgrim Tours can customize an itinerary to fit your group needs with many options to choose from.
Concerned about safety? As a Christian tour operator, the staff at Pilgrim Tours takes a Biblical perspective regarding the current situation in the Middle East. We do not believe that peace in Israel is something that will occur until the Prince of Peace comes to restore His kingdom. Please do not make a reservation with us based on the hopes of a calm future. If you long for the special blessings only available in Israel, we will take you there. An expert driver and guide will carefully keep you from any areas that could present a problem and treat you to the riches of Israel as our special guest.

Featured Sites in Israel
Explore a vast selection of beautiful historical and Biblical locations throughout Israel with our Israel Holy Land tour. You can visit Jerusalem, Galilee, and parts of Samaria, getting the life-changing opportunity to see where Jesus and many other Biblical figures lived and walked. We even offer Holy Land tours that allow you to see the Dead Sea, the Garden Tomb, and the Jordan River Baptism Site. Like all of our Europe tours , our Israel Holy Land tours are led by local guides who have extensive knowledge of the area and its history. If you want to experience the history of Israel and see the Bible come to life, our Holy Land tours give you that opportunity.
The city of Jerusalem offers a unique convergence of Judaism, Christianity, and the Muslim faith. For Christians who visit Jerusalem, you will learn about many stories of the Bible while walking her streets. Many actors in the Bible such as Abraham, King David, King Solomon, the twelve disciples and Jesus all lived, visited, or spent time there. The Passion week of Christ will be highlighted during our stay as we visit the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Western Wall, the Way of Suffering, and the Garden Tomb.
Sea of Galilee
Nowhere in Israel does the Bible come to life more than along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Pilgrims who visit the Galilee region have the opportunity to imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago and what Jesus and the twelve disciples experienced while fishing on the Sea of Galilee. The peaceful setting and the natural wonders of the Golan Heights to the east and Mt. Arbel to the west make for a great way to start your morning in quiet reflection. During our tour, we explore the Biblical towns of Capernaum, Magdala, and Nazareth and take a meaningful cruise on the Sea of Galilee.
The Dead Sea is not only the lowest and most lifeless lake in the world, but also nearly 10 times saltier than the ocean. Travelers will enjoy the beautiful colors of the blue water and the red mountains of Jordan to the east. Take time to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime Dead Sea “float” either in the sea itself or at one of the warm salt water pools at our hotel. The Dead Sea experience is truly a bucket list visit you won’t want to miss!
Garden Tomb
Our visit to the Garden Tomb and its surrounding gardens is normally one of the highlights of our tour to Israel. The Garden Tomb is a rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem that was unearthed in 1867 and is considered by some Protestants to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus. Our visit offers a unique time of prayer, reflection, communion, and praise, which will be a special life-long memory for many travelers.
Jordan River Baptism Site
The Jordan River Baptist Site or “Yardenit” is a baptism site located along the Jordan River just south of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. This site is frequented by Christian Pilgrims who enjoy imagining the setting of the baptism of Jesus. For anyone who would like to be baptized in the Jordan River, Yardenit has been developed to be a peaceful setting with beautiful gardens, clean colored water, changing facilities, showers, and a nice souvenir shop.
Caesarea Philippi
To many Pilgrim travelers, Caesarea Philippi is a special surprise while on their tour. Located along the rushing springs of Mt. Hermon, the beautiful and natural setting is where Jesus asked his disciples “Who do men say that I am?” He asked this question while observing the pagan worship of the god Pan as worshipers offered their sacrifice at the “Gates of Hell.” Our time at Caesarea Philippi is one of many opportunities throughout our tour to see the lessons and message of the Bible come to light in a special way.
Israel Tours: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best month for the Holy Land tour?
Taking a trip to Israel during the spring or fall offers the most enjoyable weather of the year but normally has the largest crowds. If you want to enjoy a peaceful tour with fewer crowds, consider visiting between December and February or June and August. We offer Israel and Jordan tours throughout the year, so you can select a trip that works for your schedule.
How many days do you need for a Holy Land tour?
We offer several types of tours of the Holy Land, so the duration of your tour depends on the tour package you choose. The Best of Israel Tour is our most basic offering and includes a Sea of Galilee boat ride, a trip to the Jordan River Baptism Site, the Dead Sea, and many opportunities to walk on the same land Jesus walked on. This is our shortest trip at just 9 or 10 days. Our most involved trips allow you to experience a wide range of historical locations over the course of a few weeks. Egypt tours are included in some of these packages, as well as tours in Greece and other countries. These tours can take up to 24 days, giving you the chance to spend an extended period of time learning about and visiting different parts of the world. From our Turkey tours to all of our Israel Christian tours, all of our tours feature a first-class hotel rating for the country you visit. We do offer some upgraded tours that offer better lodging options. You can review our hotel categories at https://www.pilgrimtours.com/company/hotelcomparison.htm . Check out any of our tours to view a day-by-day itinerary and see what amenities are included with each tour.
What is the dress code in Israel?
The dress code in Israel is different from other parts of the world. There are a few dress code basics you should understand before booking Israel tours: When you’re in Israel, there is no strict dress code. You can wear what you feel comfortable wearing. However, both men and women should try to dress conservatively and cover their shoulders and knees when visiting any of the religious sites throughout Israel. Generally speaking, it’s best to avoid tank tops and shorts. Men need to cover their heads when visiting the Western Wall. Pilgrim Tours provides a Pilgrim Tours ball cap upon arrival in Israel, but you might consider purchasing an affordable kippa that you can bring when you visit Jewish sites. Some places may offer a free kippa, but these are generally low quality. (Women are not required to cover their heads at any sight.) You can figure out what you need to pack and how to dress each day by looking at the itinerary for our Holy Land tours. Guides normally offer guidance on how to dress for the next day while on tour. We also suggest looking at the extended weather forecast as you prepare and pack for your trip.
Is there a lot of walking involved on an Israel Tour?
Our Israel tours do require a significant amount of walking each day and you should be able to walk unassisted 3-4 miles per day on average. Make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes that provide adequate support. While there are bus and boat rides during these tours, you have to walk quite a bit to explore some of the Biblical sites. Our tour guides normally give the group a few options at sites for those that have physical limitations. One thing to keep in mind is that there are many hills and valleys in Israel which can make walking even more taxing. The amount of walking you have to do may vary based on the tour you take, so look at the itinerary before choosing your tour. The good news is that Israel is a beautiful country to see on foot, and you’ll have several opportunities to sit down and give your feet a rest. As long as you have a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothes, it’s easy to forget about all the walking you’re doing and enjoy the tour.
What passport & visa information do I need for your Israel tours?
U.S. citizens need a valid U.S. passport with at least six months validity beyond their intended stay to enter Israel. Make two photocopies of your passport. Leave one copy at home and carry the other separately from your original. Israel: U.S. and Canadian Citizens do not need a Visa when entering Israel. Non U. S. /Canadian Citizens are responsible to fulfill appropriate entry requirements of destination. Contact your Consulate office for requirements.
What common languages will be spoken during your Israel tours?
Hebrew, Arabic and English.
What currency can I use on your Israel tours?
The U.S. dollar is widely accepted across Israel, and we suggest bringing about $30 for each day you’ll be on tour. U.S. dollars are recommended for use for small purchases and lunches. Lunches typically cost $15-20. It is important to bring about 20 $1 bills as some bathrooms charge a small fee for use. Credit cards may also be used for larger purchases. ATMs in Israel are all connected to European and American banking systems. Please be advised that the ATM machines dispense money in SHEKELS – NOT U.S. DOLLARS. Please notify your bank before traveling overseas.
Do I need to bring a converter for the Israel tour?
Israel uses the European plug with two round pins. You will need to bring along the necessary converters and adapters to operate any 120 volt appliances such as hair dryers and electric razors as well as camera and cell phone chargers. Electricity in Israel is 220 volts 50 Hz.
What is the time zone for your Israel tours?
The time zone for Israel is seven hours ahead of EST and two hours ahead of GMT.
What climate should I expect during your Israel tours?
In Israel the climate is temperate, and temperatures all year-round are reasonable. Israel has two main seasons: winter (from November to March) is cold and rainy in most parts of the country; summer (from April to October) is hot and dry with little or no rainfall. The desert areas can be extremely hot in summer time.

The Holy Land
McCabe is the UK’s premier operator of tours and Pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and it is unusual for someone to only travel there once. Most visit two or three times, some make an annual pilgrimage. Repetition is an age-old feature of pilgrimage. You visit the same places, but the experience changes every time. We offer a choice of Holy Land itineraries with departures throughout the year.
Bring Jesus’ time on Earth to life and follow in his footsteps. You will marvel at the natural beauty of the landscapes, rich history and will not fail to be moved. You may enter as a tourist, but you will exit as a pilgrim. We all know the story, we have heard of the Sermon on the Mount, the Angel Gabriel appearing to Mary, Jesus’ painful walk to his crucifixion, the feeding of the five thousand and the baptism of Jesus, yet nothing can prepare us for the emotional encounter of standing at these points where it took place and absorbing the energy and legacy left behind for all mankind. A legacy we invite you to experience and share, to create memories and spiritual awareness that will remain with you forever.
Itineraries
McCabe recommends our eight- and ten-day pilgrimages. Our shorter seven day pilgrimage is perfect for a first time visit to the Holy Land and contains all the major sites you would expect to visit, while keeping the cost down and accessible to many. Our ten-day tour truly is the pilgrimage of all pilgrimages and perfect to explore all the Holy Land sights without feeling hurried. Generally, with just two stays in Jerusalem and Tiberius there is no constant need to pack and unpack and you will feel relaxed as you follow the greatest story of all time. Our hotels in Jerusalem are close to the Old City walls. In Tiberius the location is on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and close to many famous biblical sights. Evenings watching the sun set and contemplating the days sights and experiences truly make this a wonderful experience.
Peace of Mind
McCabe is the UK’s premier operator of tours and Pilgrimages to the Holy Land with over 40 years’ experience. We work closely with partners in the Holy Land to provide you with the best possible pilgrimage experience. McCabe have tried and tested itineraries on offer, along with partner hotels that have been looking after our groups for many years to acclaimed feedback. We have trusted local guides who have expert knowledge and are very caring and fully understand the needs of our guests. Our team are regular visitors to the Holy Land, and we experience all that our guests experience from hotels, restaurants, sightseeing and the emotional pull of the region.

Organising a Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage is our speciality and in 2023 we celebrate our 40th year in business – so we must be doing something right! We work with all denominations and are happy to tailor every pilgrimage to the needs of each particular church. For instance, some parties would plan one or two Eucharists during their pilgrimage but others will choose a daily celebration. In the Holy Land, your focus may be the Galilean ministry or a re-creation of Holy Week in Jerusalem. You tell us what your particular interest is and we will recommend an itinerary

Israel is located North-East of Egypt and East of the Mediterranean Sea, which makes up the majority of Israel’s 170 mile coastline. It also has a small coastline on the Red Sea in the South.

For the remaining nights we’ll travel down to Jerusalem and make space to experience the Old City, visiting special sites including the Garden of Gethsemane , the Way of the Cross, the Temple Mount and the Jewish quarter.
Although we’ll be travelling distances via coach, there is a lot of walking to access sites, so please make sure you’re comfortable with standing and walking for periods of time.

Meet your Richmond Ministry Leaders
Neville and Anthea met in Oxford and got married in 1983. They’ve lived in Oxford ever since except for seven years living and working in Jerusalem (2015 – 2022). They have four grown-up sons and five grandchildren (so far). They worship at St Aldate’s Church, Oxford, and in Jerusalem they worshipped at Christ Church, Jaffa Gate.
In 2021 Neville was ordained deacon at Christ Church. Neville has a background in the sciences but earns his living writing software for a small computer company in Oxford. He has had a love for the Bible since his student days and enjoys teaching it, whether preaching or in more informal situations. In recent years he has focused on the culture and context of the New Testament, especially the gospels.
Anthea was born and grew up in Israel as her parents worked for CMJ (Church’s Ministry Among Jewish People). She trained as a nurse in Oxford and has worked as a hospital and community nurse, then as a college nurse at the university before accepting the role of school nurse at the Anglican International School, Jerusalem. Anthea speaks Hebrew, which is the official language of Israel. She has been involved in pastoral care in a variety of ways.

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the House of the LORD” Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem – built as a city that is bound firmly together. To it the tribe go up, the tribes of the LORD, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD. – Psalm 122:1-4 (NRSV)
Holy Land pilgrimages are the principal journey of faith for Christians and those seeking to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, deepen their religion and bring themselves closer God.
Our tried and tested itineraries offer the incredible opportunity to see the Gospel come to life. Immerse yourself in the ancient history and rich spirituality of shrines in the Holy Land, following the life of Jesus from Bethlehem to Nazareth, from Galilee to Jerusalem. It is often described as a life-changing experience, such is the power and influence of his teachings.
Intentions for going on pilgrimage have largely remained the same since the 4th century and the first written account in Bordeaux Itinerarium . Modes of travel, however, have been adapted for modern times. All of our pilgrimages include non-stop return flights from the UK (although anyone can join from abroad), touring on an air-conditioned coach, and are always escorted by a professional English-speaking guide. A reasonable level of fitness is still needed for daily walking, but pilgrimage has never been more accessible than it is today.
But no less meaningful.
Pilgrimages are wonderful for bringing religious communities closer together. New bonds of friendship are often formed among fellow pilgrims, and old bonds strengthened as you celebrate holy communion every day in various shrines around the Holy Land.

Visit Israel with Shoresh Tours
Israel, the "Land of milk and honey", the "Promised Land", the Land upon which the feet of the Son of God trod as he walked 2000 years ago, the Land which literally had the presence of God dwelling within the walls of its capital city, Jerusalem. Israel is a country of wonder and beauty which literally brings the Scriptures to life as you read the stories and letters in the very location they happened. Israel is like no other country on earth, and even after you have returned home, you’ll find you left a piece of your heart there and brought a piece of it home.
So let CMJ help you plan your trip to the Land God Himself chose to live.
Shoresh is the Hebrew word for “root” and the tours are particularly designed to help those seeking to appreciate the significance of the Jewish roots of Christianity in a context that encourages spiritual under- standing and growth. Romans 11:18 states: “Consider this: you do not support the root, but the root supports you.”
Since 1986, Shoresh, has welcomed thousands of people who want to explore a deeper awareness of the roots of their faith in the lands of the Bible. Whether this will be your first trip or you have travelled before on a Shoresh Study Tour, you will receive fresh insights into the Scriptures as you journey throughout the lands of the prophets, priests and kings. In your journey of discovery, the land is our classroom and the Bible our textbook.
"A life changing tour which showed me how much I did not know and helped me to understand the Bible better."
The Shoresh Guides are all believers in Jesus who will open up the world of the Scriptures through their extensive knowledge of biblical background and Hebrew language. Shoresh Study Tours will at times take you off the beaten track, to enable you to experience the land and the people of the Bible more fully.
In addition to the scheduled site visits, teaching sessions and discussion, we will meet believers from both Jewish and Arab communities in Israel. Opportunity is also given for personal quiet reflection and prayer to listen to the voice of God. Above all, it is our desire that during your journey you may see the Master, and that your experience will be that of the two who walked the Road to Emmaus, whose hearts burned within them as He spoke to them on the way.
You can check out Shoresh Tour videos on YouTube!

Questions to consider when selecting your Tour Company
research is key to selecting the right company, please read this carefully before you sign up with any tour company.
What is the Tour Company’s main focus?
Several vacation tour companies have attempted to make inroads into the Christian
Pilgrimage market. Friendship Tours only specializes in Christian pilgrimages. We do not sell vacation packages to other countries. Christian Pilgrimages is all we do and we do it well!
What knowledge does the company have about their guides?
The owners of Friendship Tours personally screen and select all of our guides. We choose guides who are flexible and responsive to the needs of our group leaders. Our guides are well informed with a broad base of knowledge in both the Old and New Testament. Our guides make us successful and this is why our group leaders re-book year after year with us.
How long has the company been around?
After 9/11 several companies avoided refunding churches the tour payments and closed shop only to re-open under a different name. Friendship Tours has been in business since 1982 and has refunded all travelers their money. Every client was cared for after 9/11. This level of service and trust is important in the ever-changing world we live in.
Are the company owners Christian?
Friendship Tours is a Christian Company. We consider our work to be the work of God on behalf of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We understand Christian Pilgrimage and we make every effort to help you in planning a meaningful, memorable and faithful experience.
What financial protection does the company offer?
Friendship Tours carries high limits of liability insurance that protects the churches that work with us. We adhere to all US government over sight with regard to Financial regulations. We have strict company policies prohibiting the commingling of client deposits. This is a critical component of our integrity. During difficult times some companies will use customer deposits to survive and run out of funds to service their group commitments. Friendship Tours is a member of the Better Business Bureau with an “A” rating. Friendship Tours has the best buying power due to our long-standing professional relations with all international airlines offering us the lowest airfares with the best connections. Our buying power for ground services is reflected in the prices we are able to offer. Very few
Companies are able to do what we do. How do we do it? Very simple. As a wholesale Tour Operator, we work on large volume of passengers and pass the savings on to our clients. This is our mission. This is a ministry entrusted to us by God. At every turn we will seek to be faithful to you and our mission. Our
Tagline says it all. “We build lasting relations. One client at a time.”

EasyJet suspends flights to Tel Aviv over Iran-Israel conflict - after attack caused travel chaos above Middle East
Flight data showed dozens of journeys that would have travelled over the Middle East turned back on Saturday after Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles into Israel
By Dylan Donnelly, news reporter
Tuesday 16 April 2024 14:01, UK
EasyJet has suspended all flights to Tel Aviv over safety concerns for journeys to Israel - days after Iran's attack caused chaos for airlines.
Flight data showed dozens of journeys that would have travelled over the Middle East turned back on Saturday after Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles into Israel .
Now easyJet has said that its flights to Israel are suspended for the remainder of the summer "as a result of the continued evolving situation" in the region.
The budget airline told Sky News it has grounded its flights until 27 October at the earliest and said: "Customers booked to fly on this route up this date are being offered options including a full refund."
In the UK, easyJet ran flights to Israel from Gatwick, Luton and Manchester airports. The airline also told Sky News it has no plans to suspend flights to other countries.
Meanwhile, Wizz Air told Sky News that while it cancelled flights to Tel Aviv on Sunday and Monday, they have resumed them as of Tuesday.
And a spokesman for British Airways - which operates four daily return flights per week between Heathrow and Tel Aviv - said: "Our flights are continuing to operate as planned and we continue to monitor the situation."

Wizz Air added that passengers may experience schedule changes because of the disruption and said: "The airline is closely monitoring the situation with the relevant authorities and keeping its passengers informed of all schedule changes."
Iran's attack on Saturday was in response to a strike on an Iranian consular building in Syria earlier this month which killed two Iranian generals. That strike has been widely blamed on Israel .
The EU's Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) insisted "there was no overflight risk for civil aviation at any time" on Saturday.
However it also said "there continues to be an increased potential for miscalculation and/or misidentification at present" for flights over Iranian airspace.

'The skies were closed'
Speaking to Sky News' Kay Burley, travel journalist Simon Calder said while the EASA said there was no risk on Saturday, "effectively the skies above Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Israel all closed".
He said: "Quite a lot of (the flights) just gave up and went home. So, for example British Airways was flying out to Oman, they got as far as Switzerland turned around and went back and that was repeated an awful lot.
"Lots of diversions of course, because airlines were taking on what they thought was enough fuel. Suddenly the skies are closed. You're going to have to fly an extra 500 miles. And therefore, they were having to refuel everywhere.
"We still haven't recovered from that. And on top of the problems we're seeing elsewhere, I'm afraid it's a very, very messy picture."

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has not yet issued any new travel guidance for countries in the Middle East, or for journeys that go over them.
Sky News has asked British Airways if they also plan to suspend flights to Tel Aviv and other locations, and has contacted the FCDO for comment.

How israel and allied defenses intercepted more than 300 iranian missiles and drones.
Almost all the ballistic missiles and drones Iran launched at Israel in an unprecedented attack late Saturday were intercepted and failed to meet their mark, according to Israeli and American officials, highlighting the formidable, and multi-layered missile defense deployed by the two allied partners.
Most of the more than 300 Iranian munitions, the majority of which are believed to have been launched from inside of Iran’s territory during a five-hour attack, were intercepted before they got to Israel, more than 1,100 miles (1,770 kilometers) from their launch points.
Israel’s military said Sunday that “99%” of projectiles fired by Iran were intercepted by Israel and its partners, with only “a small number” of ballistic missiles reaching Israel.
In total, around 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and more than 120 ballistic missiles were launched at Israel by Iran overnight Saturday, the military said.
In a call Sunday, US President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that constituted a win for Israel as nothing of “value” was hit, a senior US administration official told CNN.
US officials said more than 70 drones and three ballistic missiles were intercepted by US Navy ships and military aircraft, without giving details of exactly what defenses were used to bring down the projectiles.
The US Navy shot down at least three ballistic missiles using the Aegis missile defense system aboard two guided-missiles destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean, officials told CNN’s Oren Liebermann at the Pentagon.
US warplanes also shot down Iranian ordnance, Liebermann reported. While it was not revealed from where those US jets operated, there are US Navy aircraft carriers and land-based aircraft well within range of the region.
Biden said in a statement the US was well-prepared to help defend Israel against the Iranian attack.
“To support the defense of Israel, the US military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week,” the US president said in a statement.
“Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles,” Biden said.
Britain said it was also prepared to intervene using Royal Air Force aircraft it has in the region.
“These UK jets will intercept any airborne attacks within range of our existing missions, as required,” a Defense Ministry statement said.
An Israeli military spokesperson also said France was involved in blocking the Iranian attacks.
“We are working closely with the US, UK and France who acted tonight. This partnership has always been close, but tonight it manifested itself in an unusual way,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Israel operates a range of systems to block attacks from everything from ballistic missiles with trajectories that take them above the atmosphere to low-flying cruise missiles and rockets.
Israel’s Iron Dome system has been in the headlines often since the country began its military offensive in Gaza in response to the October 7 Hamas attacks inside Israel that sparked the current hostilities in the region.
The Iron Dome is the bottom layer of Israel’s missile defense, according to the country’s Missile Defense Organization (IMDO).
There are at least 10 Iron Dome batteries in Israel, each equipped with a radar that detects rockets and then uses a command-and-control system that quickly calculates whether an incoming projectile poses a threat or is likely to hit an unpopulated area. If the rocket does pose a threat, the Iron Dome fires missiles from the ground to destroy it in the air.
The next rung up the missile defense ladder is David’s Sling, which protects against short- and medium-range threats, according to the IMDO.
David’s Sling, a joint project of Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense System and US defense giant Raytheon, uses Stunner and SkyCeptor kinetic hit-to-kill interceptors to take out targets as far as 186 miles away, according to the Missile Threat project at the Center for International and Strategic Studies (CSIS).
Above David’s Sling are Israel’s Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 systems, jointly developed with the United States.
The Arrow 2 uses fragmentation warheads to destroy incoming ballistic missiles in their terminal phase – as they dive toward their targets – in the upper atmosphere, according to the CSIS. The Arrow 2 has a range of 56 miles and a maximum altitude of 32 miles, according to the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance, which called the Arrow 2 an upgrade of the US Patriot missile defenses Israel once used in this role.
Meanwhile, the Arrow 3 uses hit-to-kill technology to intercept incoming ballistic missiles in space, before they reenter the atmosphere on their way to targets.
Israel also has state-of-the-art fighter aircraft, including F-35I stealth jets that it has used to shoot down drones and cruise missiles before, according to news reports.
The ballistic missiles that did reach Israel fell on the Netavim Air Base in southern Israel, Israel’s military spokesman said, adding that they caused only light structural damage. The base was functioning and continuing its operations following the attack, with planes continuing to use the base, he added.
Photos released by the Israeli Air Force early Sunday showed F-35 and F-15 fighter jets returning to their bases in Israel after what were called successful “interceptions” and “aerial defense missions.”
Some of the weapons launched at Israel were fired from Iraq and Yemen, the spokesman added.
CNN’s MJ Lee, Irene Nasser, Eugenia Yosef and Benjamin Brown contributed to this report.

UK and US sanction leading Iranian military figures and entities following the attack on Israel
The UK sanctioned a further 7 individuals and 6 entities that enabled Iran's destabilising activity in the Middle East, including its direct attack on Israel.
Today (Thursday 18 April) the UK has sanctioned a further 7 individuals and 6 entities who have enabled Iran to conduct destabilising regional activity, including its direct attack on Israel.
This adds to the 400 plus sanctions already imposed on Iran. Previous sanctions include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ( IRGC ) in its entirety and many of those responsible for the attack on Israel.
In a coordinated package with the US, leading Iranian military figures have been sanctioned in response to Iran’s dangerous direct attack on Israel on 14 April. The UK and US have also announced a range of sanctions to tighten the net on key actors within Iran’s unmanned aerial vehicle ( UAV ) and missile industries and further limit Iran’s ability to destabilise the region.
The Foreign Secretary announced these sanctions during his attendance at the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting in Capri, where the UK and our allies reaffirmed support for Israel’s security and the security of all our regional partners.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said:
The Iranian regime’s attack against Israel was a reckless act and a dangerous escalation. Today we have sanctioned the ringleaders of the Iranian military and forces responsible for the weekend’s attack. These sanctions – announced with the US – show we unequivocally condemn this behaviour, and they will further limit Iran’s ability to destabilise the region.
Foreign Secretary David Cameron said:
At a time of great tension in the Middle East, Iran’s decision to launch hundreds of drones and missiles towards Israel carried with it a serious risk of thousands of civilian casualties and wider escalation for the region. The sanctions announced today alongside the US demonstrate our unequivocal condemnation of Iran’s attack on a sovereign state. The MSC Aries and its crew should be released immediately, and Iran should halt its reckless and unlawful behaviour. Further escalation is in no one’s interest.
The UK has condemned Iran’s dangerous attack on a sovereign state, which has further inflamed tensions in the Middle East and served to further isolate Iran on the world stage. Today’s designations have been made under the UK’s new Iran sanctions regime , which enables the UK to target Iran’s hostile behaviour.
Further sanctions have been imposed on:
- Armed Forces General Staff: directs and coordinates Iran’s armed forces
- The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps ( IRGC ) Navy: 1 of Iran’s 2 naval forces
- The Khatemolanbia Central Headquarters (KCHQ): responsible for operational command and control of Iran’s armed forces
- Major General Gholamali Rashid, Commander KCHQ: responsible for operational command and control of Iran’s armed forces, reports directly to the Supreme Leader
- Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, Minister of Defence Armed Forces Logistics: Iran’s Defence Minister, responsible for supporting and equipping the Iranian armed forces
- Seid Mir Ahmad Nooshin, Aerospace Industries Organisation ( AIO ) Director and 4 further individuals related to AIO
The individuals sanctioned are subject to a travel ban and asset freeze. The entities are subject to an asset freeze.
The IRGC Navy was involved in seizing the civilian ship MSC Aries in international waters and has threatened military action against Israel. The UK has continued to call for the immediate release of the ship and its crew.
In 2023 alone, the UK made 154 new designations. The UK continues to tighten the net on actors involved in the Iranian UAV and missile industries. Last year the UK introduced trade measures prohibiting the export of specific UAV components and services to Iran. The UK has also designated a wide range of companies involved in production of Iranian UAVs, including the Shahed-131 and Shahed-136 drones – models which Iran has supplied to Russia. These types of drones were also used by Iran in its attack on Israel.
The UK is continuing to work closely with our partners in the G7 as we consider further measures to hold Iran’s regime to account.
View the full UK Sanctions List .
The full list of those now subject to UK action today:
- the Khatemolanbia Central Headquarters (KCHQ): responsible for operational command and control of Iran’s armed forces
- the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps ( IRGC ) Navy: 1 of Iran’s 2 naval forces
- Seid Mir Ahmad Nooshin: Aerospace Industries Organisation ( AIO ) Director
- Nader Khoon Siavash: AIO Director
- Mohammad Gholami: AIO senior official
- Sayyed Javad Musavi: Commercial director of Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group ( SHIG ), a subsidiary of AIO
- Amir Radfar: Shahid Bagheri Industrial Group ( SBIG ) Director, a subsidiary of AIO
- Mahtabal: involved UAV industry
- Aseman Pishraneh Engineering Services Company: involved in UAV industry
- Sarmad Electronic Sepahan Company: involved in UAV industry
The Aerospace Industries Organisation ( AIO ) is a leading industrial subsidiary of Iran’s Ministry of Defence Armed Forces Logistics with responsibility for missile production. AIO , SBIG and SHIG are already sanctioned by the UK for activity related to Iran’s nuclear programme.
The UK government works with a range of partners and will continue to use all tools at our disposal to protect individuals in the UK against any threats from the Iranian state.
The government continually assesses potential threats in the UK, and takes the protection of individuals’ rights, freedoms, and safety very seriously – wherever those threats may originate.
Today’s sanctions package is being announced under the new Iran (Sanctions) Regulations 2023 , which came into force in December 2023.
The regime contains measures designed to target individuals and organisations, including designation powers designed to deter the government of Iran or armed groups that they back, from conducting hostile activity against the United Kingdom or any other country.
Today’s sanctions on Iranian UAV ’s and ballistic missiles build on our export controls under the Export Control Order 2008, which require any UK exporter wanting to export these items to obtain a licence from the Export Control Joint Unit.
The addition of trade sanctions means that it is also prohibited for UK persons – wherever they are in the world – to facilitate the trade in these items by brokering their sale or supply, or to provide the financial services or funds for the transaction, or to repair the items.
The UK also maintains an arms embargo on Iran, as well as measures targeting ballistic missile production.
Asset freeze
An asset freeze prevents any UK citizen, or any business in the UK, from dealing with any funds or economic resources which are owned, held or controlled by the designated person. It also prevents funds or economic resources being provided to or for the benefit of the designated person. UK financial sanctions apply to all persons within the territory and territorial sea of the UK and to all UK persons, wherever they are in the world.
A travel ban means that the designated person must be refused leave to enter or to remain in the United Kingdom, providing the individual is an excluded person under section 8B of the Immigration Act 1971.

The airline said it expects pre-tax losses of between £340m and £360m for the traditionally loss-making six months to the end of March, in a trading update before its half-year results.
EasyJet said demand for flights had rebounded after a six-week “softening” in searches and bookings from the start of the Israel-Gaza war in October.
The carrier said the net loss from cancelled flights to Israel and Jordan was about £40m, from refunds and lost revenue. EasyJet has now extended until October the suspension of Tel Aviv flights announced this week after Iran’s drone attack . The airline said it expected little direct financial impact from its decision in the coming months.
The region, including Egypt, accounts for a far smaller fraction of easyJet’s operations in summer, down to 0.3% from about 4% in the winter months.
The airline’s first-half profits were boosted by an early Easter, falling in March this year, offsetting a £140m rise in its fuel bill compared with 2023. It said it had been partly protected from rising oil prices in 2024 with 70% of fuel hedged below the current price.
The easyJet chief executive, Johan Lundgren, said: “Bookings continue to build well and we’re confident of building a record summer performance.”
The airline has not given formal guidance for full-year profits, with only about 30% of peak season so far sold, but, according to Lundgren, analyst consensus is “£100m better this summer compared to last year’s record summer, so that gives some idea”.
The group’s holiday arm, easyJet Holidays, has grown by 35% year on year and is 70% booked for summer.

Lundgren said easyJet would be one of the fastest-growing airlines in Europe this year, with new bases in Alicante and Birmingham contributing to 94 new routes, while overall seat capacity would increase by another 8% year on year, with deliveries of 16 additional Airbus aircraft in 2024.
He said reduction of winter losses was “a pillar” of the airline’s strategy, adding: “This is a step in that direction … I think we have surprised the market, given the fact there are two wars going on, where we are with the cost of living challenge and high fuel prices, that we can reduce them, and we want to do more.”
Shares in easyJet rose almost 3% in early trading on Thursday.
