What are the options for Cruise control? I saw this one at twistedthrottle.com but it is $125. I want to basically reduce wrist/hand fatigue. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4761/202/

there are several throttle lock options Kaoko, Throttlemeister, NEP, Vista but you can get REAL cruise control for the same money or less than kaoko or Throttlemeister, with the caveat that installation is a bit more technical Audiovox CS100 universal cruise control can be fitted as well as Rostra Electronic Cruise control both are common add ons for V-stroms including the 650, no reason you couldn't install it on a SV

I think a "cruise control" or something that actually locks your throttle open on a bike a is a bad idea when it comes to safety on a motorcycle. Some might say "well all cars have cruise control" but the difference is that as soon as you tap the brakes in you car the cruise turns off. Most aftermarket motorcycle cruise controls don't work this way and I can envision horrible consequences to a locked throttle in a panic situation. If hand , wrist and forearm fatigue is your problem, consider these 3 alternatives... 1. Get some weights or hit the gym and work on your hand and forearm muscles. 2. Do the R6 throttle tube mod. (search the forum for info) This mode converts your throttle to a 1/5th tun throttle instead of the 1/4th turn stock which means you don't have to twist as far to go from closed to open throttle. 3. Get a throttle assist device like a throttle rocker or crampbuster. I don't like these devices for around the town or blasting twisties but they are a god send on long highway runs. People actually install cruise control units on motorcycles. http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/cruise-control.htm

Wow, this looks really complicated! I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has done this mod on a SV650SF.

There is a guy I ride with who has the throtlemiester. It is really cool. When u lock the throttle down, obviously it stays at that throttle imput. U can still roll the throttle on further, or less though with little force so safety isn't too much of an issue. It'll stay where ever u put it. It's basicaly a bar end with some sort of spring tension. When u twist the bar end it sinches down on the throttle tube. Twist back and the tension is off allowing the throttle spring to regain control. The bar ends look cool too. I want one for droning.

I'm a big fan of the Vista Cruise throttle lock. When you adjust the tension properly, rolling the throttle open or closed is easy; It just won't close by itself. The only downside is that you have to carefully modify your throttle tube and trim down your grip for it all to work. Once you get it set up properly, it flicks on and off easily, and really saves your hand/wrist on long rides.

I don't think i'd ever get any use out of a cruise control device. I can't ever use the cruise contol on my car for more then a few minutes at a time before some a whole decides to get in my lane going 20mph slower then me.

It's more for long-distance trips, or commutes where there is absolutely nothing.

Not sure how similar the wiring is but the DL guys, both 1000 and 650 (V-Strom and Wee-Strom) install the Rostra units with great success. They have switch/relays that cut off the control when either clutch or brake levers are pulled and tap the "R" resume button and it picks up right where it left off just like an automotive install. Because it's an automotive unit. I was about to post a question here as to whether anyone has done it but after a search it appears not. I've used one on my neighbors DL1000 and I know that it works, just wasn't sure how similar the wiring was to facilitate an SV install. Any comments?

My bike had a mechanical cruise control on it from the PO when I bought it. Without engaging it, it managed to hold my throttle open for me while I was going into a turn. If it was on an open road maybe I could have responded in time but since it was in my development (with people watching) the turns are too tight to complete at that speed. Atleast I have my inevitable crash under my belt but I wont be using a cruise control anymore.

Just read one install for the Vista and came across this gem: "This leaves me free to release the grip with my right hand and adjust the volume on my stereo, get a stick of gum out, fix my glasses, wipe a bug off my forhead or do anything that requires my right hand to do (I'm right handed and my left hand is "out to lunch" most of the time)."

Suzuki V-Strom DL 250 650 1000 & 1050 VStrom - NEW Cruise Control/Throttle Lock | eBay

cruise control v strom 650

A throttle lock is not cruise control. Cruise control is devise/system that when set will maintain a speed within a +/- range by automatically adjusting the throttle position. A throttle lock is simply that. It locks the throttle in a certain position. Unless you ride on perfectly flat ground a throttle lock will not maintain a set speed. Speed will increase or decrease as you encounter.

do they make a cruise control? I've never seen one that can be installed aftermarket that does what you are describing. THat would be something else. For that reason I am referring to this as a cruise control just like the entire motorcycle nation does with all of types of "throttle locks". I appreciate you explaining this for some who may not understand. Back to my point.....the problem I am having with this cruise control is that it's not actually holding the throttle where I lock it. It's slipping. While I understand that the bike will not be able to make change in throttle over and on hills, I do know that this thing should actually hold the throttle where I lock it rather than slowing itself down on a constant basis. The atlas looks like the ticket.

Yes there are aftermarket cruise control units. There are all types of throttle locks out there. The lower end one's work for a minute or so then they start to slip and need readjusted. If you want a throttle lock the will hold you need to spend the money and get something of better quality like a Kaoko.

cruise control v strom 650

I've got a throttlemiester on my FZ1. It is the style that installs in place of your bar end weight. Somewhat similar to the way that the Kaoko works. Eventually I'll be putting a Kaoko on my vstrom

Appreciate all the input, I may try a different style of lock like what some of you have shared and see if they actually hold the throttle in place like I want them too.

You sure can, just roll on/off w/o adjusting the friction You can also adjust the friction from a little to "assist" in holding the throttle. Basically take a little weigh off your wrist. Just use caution as the bike will idle down slower as the throttle slips back to the at rest position.

OK, so it works the same way as my Throttlemeister. Perfect

cruise control v strom 650

I have a MC cruise control on my bike, they are expensive but they are a true motorcycle cruise control and work as a true cruise should with lots of safety features built in.

cruise control v strom 650

I have used the same first generation "Go Cruise" throttle lock though about 85,000 miles on my 2012 DL650 and now for 137,000+ miles on my 2015 DL1000. It slipped at first but I took a bit of Aircraft Safety wire and snugged it up and so it is the perfect tension. It holds forever and releases easily by just backing off the throttle. I'm sure my next bike will have actual real cruise control but in the meanwhile this works as well as can be expected for a throttle lock. ..Tom

cruise control v strom 650

Did you install that yourself? Take you very long, and how difficult was the install? Thanks.

The purpose is to hold the throttle position long enough to rest one's hand wrist. Any change in slope, up or down, will cause your speed to vary up or down. Some of the mechanical devices come with a rubber band looking piece that is supposed to fit in the drip down between the grip and the throttle cable housing where the lock might fit. Keep a light grip and you won't need much of a break for your wrist/hand.

Obviously it is not going to adjust throttle for hills and slope, we know that. Mine doesn't vary based on that and i you're able to read the post I made previously, it just doesn't hold the speed, it slips and slows down, as in junk. I like the break it gives my hands and wrist, but if it could actually hold the throttle where I lock it, it would work better, lol.

I also fitted a MC cruise, with basic tools and a little mechanical knowledge it is quite doable, if you think removing the plastics & tank from your bike is hard it maybe best you don't attempt it but if the plastics are no challenge you should have no problems. The instructions are clear, easy to read with lots of photos, before I made my purchase I contacted the manufactures, they are Australian brothers and very happy to help, turns out one brother rides and loves his Vstrom, if you are truly interested they will send you the fitting instructions so you can look them over before you hand over any cash. I did not get it to give my hand a rest, I got it to keep my speeds under control, I could set my speed then ignore the speedometer, the unit has saved me many many speeding tickets so it has paid for it's self many times over.

Thanks for the info. A friend installed cruise on several of his bikes, planning to travel half of the year, riding lots of Interstate. I stay off the Interstate as much as possible, routes are more interesting, small towns more appealing, food and cold beer seems to taste better. I often ride 400-600 miles per day, or more without a cruise, but that fits my wants over a lot of years riding. If I wanted a big cruising bike again, I would probably get one with cruise though, why not if it came factory.

What Rolex said . Once you've had a proper cruise control it would be hard to go back . Yes its expensive but it transforms the bike into a tourer & the pennies saved on speeding tickets - priceless .

I have to be very desperate to slab it down a motorway, back roads & dirt roads are the reason I ride bikes but sometimes they can't be avoided and this is when the CC shines. I'm lucky in I don't have a budget and can spend what I want to get my rides the way I want them, I enjoy the process, the problem with that is I need to keep them longer than I may want just to justify the purchase, so it's something to think about.

cruise control v strom 650

A $20 GoCruise throttle lock always worked well on my previous Wee-Strom, I must dig it out again now I have another Wee... I never bothered to use it on the DR650 because I wasn't often doing long highway rides on it.

cruise control v strom 650

I originally had the Kaoko throttle lock on my V2 but I live in California and unless you're riding in the central valley, it's not much help because the roads are up and down. It didn't take long for ne to instal the McCruise and I have been really happy with it since. It took less than a day to install and a second day to tune but the instruction that can with it were very comprehensive and everything went together well. The only problem that I had was with the throttle solenoid. They recommend putting it under the seat in the storage compartment, however in California that's where the vapor recovery canister is. I had to do some reconfiguring to fit both in but it worked in the end and I have been happy ever since. No matter what the road is like, it keeps me within ±1mph. Cheers.

A number of other updates, including weight savings, a thinner chassis, and some adventure-ready extras has resulted in a V-STROM that is more versatile, more controllable, and more accessible to elevate its total performance so it’s simply “More V-STROM”. And that’s what a rider wants; more of a good ride.

2024 Suzuki V-Strom 650 Totalmotorcycle.com Key Features

Coated in Solid Iron Gray paint, the effective fairing with vertically stacked headlights, adjustable windshield, and iconic Suzuki DR-Big styling adds true adventure style and real-world function.

Liquid-cooled, 645cc, 90-degree, V-twin engine delivers strong torque in the low- to mid-rpm range, yet provides a strong rush of high-rpm power that’s ideal for any riding mission.

Suzuki’s Advanced Traction Control System*, Easy Start System, Low RPM Assist feature, plus ABS** technology make a great motorcycle really incredible.

Multifunction, illumination-adjustable instrument panel brings a wealth of information to the rider in a concise manner and helps when setting rider-assist features.

Strong and lightweight chassis has integrated mount points for unified Suzuki V-Strom luggage that’s easy to clip on and off and keeps the motorcycle trim when ready for touring.

ADVANCED TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM Inheriting the favoured traction control system from the V-Strom 1000, the V-Strom 650/XT also is equipped with this advanced technology. This system continuously monitors the front and rear wheel speeds, throttle position, crank position, and gear position with various sensors, and controls the engine output by managing the ignition timing and air delivery. The traction control system can be switched to either of two modes, or off. The modes differ in terms of sensitivity. Mode one allows modest rear wheel spin for more advanced, exhilarating riding, while mode two activates traction control at the slightest loss of rear-wheel grip to give you greater confidence on slippery surfaces or in the rain. The choice of modes can be quickly and easily made by selecting the traction control mode from the left switch cluster and confirming it with a glance at the instruments. In difficult riding situations such as cold or ragged road surfaces, fully loaded with luggage, or with a pillion rider, this advanced system already established on the V-Strom 1000 shall back up the ride.

Note: Traction control system is not a substitute for rider’s throttle control under the various conditions, and traction control cannot prevent loss of traction due to excessive speed when entering turns, or while braking, and it does not control front wheel traction.

RICH INFORMATION TO SUPPORT MULTIPLE TASKS By sharing the easy to see and easy to operate/understand instrument cluster, along with the cowling image with its bigger brother, the V-STROM 650 has rich information with a quality design. The instrument cluster incorporates a large analogue tachometer and digital readouts for the gear position and speedometer. The digital section below displays the odometer, twin-trip meter, clock, fuel level, coolant temperature, ambient temperature, battery voltage, range on remaining fuel, average and instantaneous fuel consumptions, and traction-control modes. The remaining fuel range continues to display after the fuel gauge shows empty, offering the rider with accurate and comforting information. Plus, instantly recognizable LEDs provide freeze*, high-beam, neutral, malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), ABS, traction-control mode, and water-temperature indicators. All of this information is accessible from the left handlebar switch, where it is also possible to reset the trip meter.

*The freeze indicator starts blinking when the ambient temperature falls below 3°C. It continues to blink for 30 seconds then remains lit until the ambient temperature rises above 5°C.

ABS-EQUIPPED BRAKE SYSTEM Equipped with 310mm diameter twin discs with twin two-piston callipers on the front and a 260mm diameter single disk with a single-piston calliper on the rear, the V-STROM 650 provides controllable and dependable stopping performance. Also, the compact and light-weight ABS, to avoid wheel lock caused by excess hard braking, has been upgraded to the next generation with advanced settings for a further natural feel and secure activation. Note: ABS is not designed to shorten the braking distance. ABS cannot prevent wheel skidding caused by braking while cornering. Please drive carefully and do not overly rely on ABS.

LOW RPM ASSIST By adopting the Low RPM assist system, the concern of an unexpected engine stall has been relieved. This system will automatically raise the idle speed when engaging the clutch or when riding at low rpms, assisting frequent clutch work in congested town rides and preventing sudden and unexpected engine stall when running in the low rpm range.

SUZUKI EASY START SYSTEM Conventional starter switches needed to be pressed by the rider until the engine starts, but the V-STROM 650 has adopted the Suzuki Easy Start System enabling the engine to start with one push of the button. A computerized ECM checks the status and disengages the starter motor immediately after start, making the engine start easier for the rider.

SOPHISTICATED V-TWIN PERFORMANCE The 645cm 3 DOHC V-twin is a masterpiece of Suzuki engineering which has an evolving history. For the V-STROM 650, this unit has been tuned for ample low to mid-range torque for practical use while maintaining an exhilarating top-end. The unit meeting emission standards has undergone a rebuild, installing technology such as the resin-coated pistons, and revising over 60 components of the engine to achieve a higher output in a broad area of the rev-range while keeping the unique V-twin character with low fuel consumption. With low fuel consumption combined with the large 20L fuel tank, the riding rage between fill-ups are at the top in this class, relieving the rider from the stress of frequent refuelling. The further evolved engine has succeeded in emphasizing the attractions of the V-STROM 650 character, making it another masterpiece by Suzuki.

SUZUKI DUAL THROTTLE VALVE (SDTV) FUEL-INJECTION SYSTEM Featuring the performance-proven Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) injection system, each cylinder has two butterfly valves for enhanced power output and efficiency. One butterfly valve is directly linked to the riders throttle control while the other butterfly valve is controlled by the ECM and operates according to information from the throttle position sensor, engine speed sensor and gear position sensor for optimum intake flow, realizing an efficient and smooth power delivery with ample torque at low revs. Idle speed control is also a feature, supporting a steady idle speed and fewer emission. The injectors have been upgraded to a 10-hole type with a long nozzle for further efficiency.

RESIN COATED PISTONS One of the upgraded features in the 645cm3 unit are the resin-coated pistons which is a coating technology to decrease friction in the cylinder, resulting in improved fuel economy and corresponding to latest emission control. Special L-shaped piston rings are also installed for enhanced sealing performance and blow-by gas reduction, all resulting in meeting up-to-date regulations while improving the output and the ease of use.

CAMSHAFTS FOR A DISTINCTIVE POWER FEEL For the unique character of the V-STROM 650, the engine needs to be strong not only at the top end but at the frequently used low to mid-range. To meet these demands, the engine has an original intake camshaft with equally lengthened intake ports, while for the exhaust camshaft, has adopted the item from the SV650 road model which are higher lifting compared to the previous V-STROM 650. These features and a total set-up has resulted in a boost in torque and power in the mid to high rev-range, providing the rider with an exciting ride when with a sporty mind, and a stress-free character for daily rides or on a long haul, simply enhancing the attractions of this 650.

LIGHTER AND LOWER EXHAUST SYSTEM The down-type exhaust system is lighter and closer to the center of gravity, contributing to nimble handling while being able to accommodate the slim and smart optional luggage system.

The catalyzers have been positioned in a tandem configuration achieving the required level of emission control for Euro4 emission standards, while successfully gaining exhaust efficiency to boost the output.

*The Traction Control System is not a substitute for the rider’s throttle control. It cannot prevent loss of traction due to excessive speed when the rider enters a turn and/or applies the brakes. Neither can it prevent the front wheel from losing grip.

*The ABS is a supplemental device for brake operation, not a device for shortening stopping distance. Always remember to reduce speed sufficiently before approaching curves.

THE V-STROM FAMILY With the design concept “Design is in our DNA”, the V-STROM 650 has a solid and smart look, in kin to its 1037cm3 brother bringing the V-STROM family together. Suzuki’s original “Beak” style has been further emphasized by making it a straight line from the tip to the top of the tank, expressing the DNA from the DR-BIG and the desert racer DR-Z. The heritage and history of Suzuki’s adventure models are further expressed, giving the owners pride of ownership.

HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHT Contributing to the V-STROM 650 image is the headlights and taillight, a common feature with the V-STROM family. The high and low beam of the lightweight headlight is in a compact vertical configuration and realize brightness equivalent to the previous twin headlights, while when on high beam, both low and high bulbs illuminate providing a broader lit up area.

SLIMMER TANK, WITH A 20L CAPACITY The slimmer and smarter tank holds a capacity of 20L, realizing a long riding range combined with the excellent fuel consumption. Also, by eliminating the plastic covers on both sides of the tank from the previous model, the tank has become slimmer and is able to accommodate magnetically attachable tank bags. The frame covers which wore positioned directly underneath the seat on the previous model have been slimmed down as well, allowing the rider to reach straight down to the ground, resulting in better access to the ground and more confidence.

WHEELS AND TIRES Ten spoked cast-aluminum wheels/colour coordinated spoke-style wheels are an eye-catching feature for the V-Strom 650. Not only do they give a sporty image in kin to its V-Strom 1000 brother in the Suzuki Adventure model family, tracking back to the DR-BIG and DR-Z, but improves the road holding ability and reduces weight. The V-Strom 650A/XA/XAA features tubeless tire applicable wire-spoked wheels which absorb shock from the road better due to the flexible character of spokes, providing the rider with further comfort and exhilarated riding pleasure. Wheel sizes are 19-inch on the front and 17-inch on the rear, realizing the perfect balance of stable and nimble handling, and installed tires are the stability and grip level heightened Bridgestone BATTLAX ADVENTURE A40, specially developed for the V-Strom 650.

SUPPLE SUSPENSION Flexible and comfortable conventional telescopic forks have a forgiving character, allowing stress free long distance rides to an exciting run on twisty roads. The rear suspension is equipped with rebound adjustment and a remote preload adjuster which can be operated by hand allowing the rider to quickly setup the suspension to match the riding style or in a case of two-up riding or with a full load of luggage without any tools needed.

**Depending on road surface conditions, such as wet, loose, or uneven roads, braking distance for an ABS-equipped vehicle may be longer than for a vehicle not equipped with ABS. ABS cannot prevent wheel skidding caused by braking while cornering. Please ride carefully and do not overly rely on ABS.

2024 Suzuki V-Strom 650 Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

Engine features.

Using SV650 engineering, the V-Strom 650’s DOHC, liquid-cooled engine has been tuned to deliver clean, strong power at any rpm.

Low-friction resin-coated pistons and SCEM-coated cylinders help deliver high mileage for class-leading touring range.

Unique engine cover hardware and select other fasteners are designed to permit the use of Torx or conventional hex-style tools.

The sleek 2-into-1 exhaust system routes below the chassis to reduce weight, centralize mass, and provide space for a narrow tail section (and optional luggage).

The exhaust system has twin catalyzers and employs O2 feedback to the EFI system to produce optimum combustion efficiency and reduce emissions to an incredibly low level.

The fuel injection system employs Suzuki’s innovative SDTV (Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve) on 39mm throttle bodies. The secondary throttle valves are controlled by a servo motor for smooth power delivery.

Ten-hole, long-nose-type fuel injectors on each throttle body improve fuel atomization for better combustion efficiency while reducing fuel consumption.

Suzuki’s patented Throttle-body Integrated Idle Speed Control (TI-ISC) stabilizes the engine idle speed and helps lower emissions. The system is compact and lightweight.

The TI-ISC on the V-Strom 650 has Suzuki’s Low RPM Assist feature that seamlessly adjusts engine speed during takeoff and low-speed riding to smooth the power delivery. It also helps reduce the possibility of the rider stalling the motorcycle.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) provides state-of-the-art engine management and has enhanced settings to suit the updated intake and exhaust systems, resulting in better fuel economy and linear throttle response.

The engine has dual spark technology heads with two high-energy, slim electrode spark plugs per cylinder, which aid in combustion efficiency and power production.

The V-Strom 650 is equipped with Suzuki’s Advanced Traction Control System*, which lets the rider control the throttle with more confidence in various riding conditions. It continuously monitors front and rear wheel speeds, throttle opening, engine speed, and the selected transmission gear to adjust engine output if wheel spin is detected.

There are three traction control modes (1, 2, and OFF), and the difference between the modes is their sensitivity to road conditions. Mode 1 is lowest sensitivity level, most suitable for skilled riders or in conditions that have good road surface grip (riding on good, smooth roads). Mode 2 is highest sensitivity level, suitable for road conditions where the grip may be limited (wet or cold surfaces). OFF disengages all traction control features.

This V-Strom also features the Suzuki Easy Start System, which lets the rider start the motorcycle with a momentary press of the start button without pulling in the clutch lever when the transmission is in neutral.

The compact radiator is flanked by wind-directing plates that enhance cooling efficiency and direct heat out of the side vents away from the rider’s legs.

The six-speed transmission suits sporty rides with tight first through fifth gear ratios and a tall top gear (sixth gear) for highway cruising.

Low-maintenance, long-life sealed O-ring drive chain is standard.

CHASSIS FEATURES

The beak-style fairing, with vertically stacked headlights and a stronger internal structure, helps the V-Strom 650 cut through the wind, protecting the rider in style.

The three-way height-adjustable windscreen was wind-tunnel tested to reduce wind sounds, buffeting, and rider fatigue.

The fuel tank has a generous 5.3-gallon capacity but is shaped to be thin at the rear to flow into the slimmer seat, which aids the rider in touching the ground at stops.

The internal construction and cap of the fuel tank are updated so the gasoline capacity is the same for both the 49-state and California versions.

The spacious two-up seat combines smooth and slip-resistant surfaces, plus an embossed V-Strom logo.

Lightweight, rigid twin-spar aluminum frame and swingarm contribute to smooth handling performance and excellent stability.

Spring-preload-adjustable 43mm front forks and link-type rear suspension are combined with a rebound damping adjustment and hand-operated spring preload adjuster.

Light, 10-spoke cast wheels are shod with Adventure-spec Bridgestone Battlax 19-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless radial tires for all-around good performance.

Front dual 310mm disc brakes and a rear 260mm disc brake deliver controlled stopping power.

Compact Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)** system monitors wheel speed to match braking to available traction.

The lightweight resin luggage rack incorporates easy-to-grasp grab bars and aligns with the passenger section of the seat, offering a larger surface for carrying cargo or luggage.

ELECTRICAL FEATURES

The multifunction instrument panel features brightness-adjustable LED backlighting for its large diameter analog tachometer, digital speedometer, and LCD data display.

LCD readouts include odometer, dual trip meter, traction control modes, gear position, coolant and ambient temperature, fuel consumption, fuel gauge, and clock. Switching between readings can be done with the left handlebar switch.

LED indicators include an ABS alert and a freeze warning icon, which together with the air temperature display warn of possible icy road conditions.

Strong three-phase charging system supplies the 10Ah maintenance-free battery for easy starting and additional accessory power. A dedicated accessory fuse is located under the seat.

The stacked, 65/55-watt halogen headlamps illuminate the road when your ride stretches into night.

The LED tail and brake light is bright and vibration resistant. The turn signals use bright amber incandescent bulbs with clear lenses.

A handy 12-volt DC accessory outlet is mounted on the inner dash.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Genuine Suzuki Accessories include side and top cases, engine guards, low- and high- profile seats, heated grips, hand guards, and more.

  • The 2024 V-Strom 650 is supplied with three lock cylinders that match the motorcycle’s ignition key so if you get Suzuki accessory plastic side or top cases you can enjoy one-key operation.
  • The Suzuki accessory aluminum panniers and top cases have a sturdy lock and latch system that use a different style key that does not match the motorcycle’s ignition key.
  • See the Suzuki Genuine Accessory catalog for information related to luggage setup on the V-Strom 650.

2025 GSX-R1000R

cruise control v strom 650

2025 GSX-R1000R Overview

The 2025 GSX-R1000R’s versatile engine provides class-leading power smoothly and controllably across a broad rpm range. The compact chassis delivers nimble handling with excellent suspension feel, ready to conquer a racetrack or cruise a country road. Advanced electronic rider aids such as traction control, launch control, and a bi-directional quick shifter enhance the riding experience while the distinctive, aerodynamic GSX-R bodywork slices through the wind.

The Showa ®   BFF and BFRC-Lite suspension components provide an unmatched combination of reliability and performance. Up front, fed by stainless steel brake lines, radially mounted Brembo®  Monobloc brake calipers grasp a pair of 320mm Brembo ®   T-drive floating brake rotors. The GSX-R1000R continues as the best liter-class supersport with an unmatched combination of reliability, durability, usability, and overall performance with excellent track potential.

Key Features

Engine features.

The compact, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 999.8cc, inline-four-cylinder engine has the exclusive Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing System (SR-VVT) using a centrifugal actuated mechanism on the intake camshaft sprocket to increase high RPM power without losing low- to mid-range torque.

The Suzuki Racing Finger Follower valve train weighs less than a tappet-style valve train reducing friction and increasing valve response at higher engine speeds.

Titanium valves with two 31.5mm intake, and two 24mm exhaust valves are used for each cylinder. The lighter valves respond well to the finger follower’s arms, permitting a 14,500 rpm redline that helps produce extremely high peak horsepower.

The EFI system uses Suzuki’s Ride-by-Wire Electronic Throttle Bodies, with throttle valves controlled by a servo motor for fast response to rider throttle input while delivering precise and smooth power.

Transmission Features

The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) multi-plate, wet clutch functions like a slipper clutch during downshifts while increasing plate pressure during acceleration. The Suzuki Bi-directional Quick Shift System enables smooth, clutchless upshifts and downshifts of the cassette-style, six-speed transmission.

The cassette-style, six-speed transmission lets riders precisely match gear ratios to the riding condition. A cassette-style transmission can be easily removed from the crankcase as an assembly with the engine still in the frame, making racetrack gear changes easier and simplifying service.

Based on Suzuki’s race-proven, close-ratio transmissions, the GSX-R1000R gear box features vertically staggered shafts reducing overall engine length.

The shift linkage can be easily set up for reverse-pattern, GP-style shifting (even with the quick-shifter in use).

Chassis Features

Light and compact, the twin-spar aluminum frame has adjustable swingarm pivots to help racers tune the chassis. The gold-anodized Showa ® BFF fork and rear suspension components deliver extraordinary damping control while the lean-sensitive, ABS** system monitors the Brembo ®  four-piston, front brake calipers that are fed by stainless steel hoses.

The GSX-R1000R’s swingarm pivot features an adjustable location so the chassis can be better tuned for competition use (please use the standard position for street riding).

The Show® a Balance Free Front Fork (BFF) uses race-level technology to bring excellent damping force responsiveness not seen before in a supersport motorcycle. This suspension’s design controls damping force outside of the spring chamber, so the fork precisely maintains consistent damping regardless of its stroking action. With the BFF the rider enjoys an unparalleled level of surface feedback and ride compliance.

Racetrack-developed links connect the single Showa®  Balance Free Rear Cushion Light (BFRC-lite) shock to the braced swingarm. The BFRC-lite’s innovative design controls damping force outside of the shock body to not only control how the suspension strokes but helps smooth its reaction over bumpy surfaces or when the chassis is pitched during braking. This produces a superb level of response in a racetrack environment and sets a new standard for rider feedback and comfort during street riding.

Electrical Features

An Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) provides six-direction, three-axis, motion, and position information to the ECM so instantaneous electronic adjustments are made to the Traction Control* and the lean-sensitive Motion Track Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)**.

The black background LCD multifunction instrument panel was inspired by the GSX-RR MotoGP dash, and the aerodynamic fairing houses a bright, stacked LED headlight assembly and eyebrow position lights above the Suzuki Ram Air Direct intake ducts.

The Suzuki Bi-directional Quick Shift System lets GSX-R1000R racers shift faster than ever. By manipulating ignition timing on upshifts and the electronic throttle bodies on downshifts, clutchless shifting helps deliver faster and more consistent lap times.

The Suzuki Launch Control System provides GSX-R1000R riders a competitive advantage when launching their motorcycle at the start of the race. This system modulates engine power so the rider can concentrate on clutch operation.

Body & Styling Features

The 2025 GSX-R1000R is available in a new Candy Daring Red / Glass Black paint scheme with dark red wheels or a stunning Metallic Matte Sword Silver scheme with bright blue graphics on the fairing and black wheels.

The aerodynamic bodywork was created by Suzuki styling designers and engineers using wind tunnel testing to achieve a slippery shape and compelling appearance. Narrower than ever, the GSX-R1000R’s shape directly aids performance by improving handling and top speed on the racetrack.

The reasonable sport riding position comes from a carefully crafted relationship between the clip-ons, footrests, and a seat height of just 32.48 inches (825mm).

The shifter and rear brake pedal are adjustable in relationship to the footrests, and the hand controls are adjustable in relation to the grips.

Additional Features

The passenger seat can be replaced with an optional color-matched solo tail cowl (available from your Suzuki dealer). See authorized Suzuki dealers for the wide range of Suzuki Genuine Accessories available for the GSX-R. The GSX-R1000R has a twelve-month unlimited mileage limited warranty, and longer coverage periods with other benefits are available through Suzuki Extended Protection (SEP).

10 Reasons Why We Love The Suzuki V-Strom 650XT

T he Suzuki V-Strom 650 has always continued the brand’s legacy and tradition of being over-engineered, comfortable, and balanced. Still, the last major update this line saw was in 2017 when it was released in its third-generation avatar. Over the years, this third-generation V-Strom 650 has seen minor updates, and even modern electronics have joined the party.

One such update was the launch of its 650XT variant , loaded with off-road features that made it a more adventure-oriented bike than the standard V-Strom 650. The Suzuki V-Strom 650XT is still a logical motorcycle if you want a Suzuki ADV that can handle rough roads, not just wide-open tarmac. But is the bike any better than its competitors? We think it is. The 650XT is the most versatile V-Strom line approach and offers function unlike any other in the segment. Here are ten reasons why we love the V-Strom 650XT and why you should consider this bike.

From Commutes To Off-Road Adventures

The V-Strom 650XT is perhaps the most versatile Suzuki you can buy at the moment. For starters, the 650XT is an excellent commuter since it is comfortable, easy to handle in the urban jungle, and comes with various comfort features like idle speed control and low RPM assist. For the main course, the 650XT still retains the tourer essence of the standard 650 with its thin, agile chassis, a saddle that won’t change the shape of your butt after a couple of hours, and some creature comforts like the three-way height-adjustable windshield. Even the 645cc V-twin engine can cruise at freeway speeds without breaking a sweat or losing its bolts.

The 650XT variant also offers desert in terms of off-roadability , thanks to its wire-spoked wheels with aluminum rims, tubeless tires, adjustable suspension, hand guards, and a lower engine cowl. It may not be as off-roadable as a Tenere 700, but for most bikers, the 650XT is more than enough to tackle the occasional dirt road on their multi-day tours.

Power Where You Need

The V-Strom 650XT has a 645cc V-twin engine that produces 70 horses and 46 pound-feet of torque, with a top speed of 125 mph. That’s more than enough for most adventures , but where this engine shines is how it delivers this power. The V-twin engine produces a strong dose of torque in the low to mid RPM range, which can help you filter lanes on your weekdays and overcome obstacles on weekends. And when you’re in the mood for some speed, the engine delivers a rush of power at the top end , too!

Comfort For The City And The Highways

Most people who purchase the Suzuki V-Strom are mile-munchers and want a comfortable motorcycle, no matter the conditions. And the 650XT stays true to this. For instance, you won’t feel any vibes on the pegs or the bars, the steering is neutral yet precise, and the engine feels so refined that you may question its character. Plus, you can always fine-tune the adjustable suspension to your liking! There’s a reason why Iron Butt enthusiasts often gravitate to this bike.

The Necessary Electronics

Let’s be honest, the Suzuki V-Strom 650XT is far from a tech-laden BMW, but you don’t really need all the tech. Instead, the 650XT takes a pragmatic approach with its electronic suite — it’s designed to be comfortable and reliable , not a wild beast that needs taming. So, the 650XT has gizmos that matter, like ABS, advanced traction control, idle speed control, and low RPM assist. These features make V-Strom 650XT a safe bike that’s super easy to live with.

You Will Forget About Fuel Stops

Another feature that even serious adventure bikes often miss out on is range, but the V-Strom 650XT does not. The bike has a generous 5.3-gallon fuel tank and a surprisingly fuel-efficient engine, which gives this bike a range of 260 miles between fill-ups. That’s a lot of range, and if you keep your wrist calm, you can even stretch the range up to 300 miles! This is one reason why the Suzuki V-Strom 650XT is among the best middleweight adventure tourers on the market.

Attractive Pricing For A Middleweight ADV

The V-Strom 650XT is a lot of things, but it is not expensive. It is one of the most accessible middleweight adventure bikes, with a price tag of only $9,599 . Of course, you will find some adventure bikes under this price range, but the V-Strom 650XT has carved a unique position for itself by being an incredibly versatile, capable motorcycle.

Quintessential Adventurous Looks

The V-Strom 650XT is an attractive bike; it looks bulky but, at the same time, is not overkill like the big GSs from BMW. It has a distinctive adventure fairing with the classic front beak and vertically stacked headlights. From the side, you’ll notice the wind-tunnel-tested windshield dropping onto the gentle hump of the fuel tank, followed by a graceful flyline. It’s hard to complain about the design — it is timeless.

Did You Say Accessories?

Adventure bikes are often clean slates for customizations; after all, you want the bike to be comfortable for you. Suzuki knows this since they have given the 650XT an accessories catalog that will even shame some Harley-Davidson baggers. The catalog includes add-ons like LED turn signals, LED fog lamps, aluminum chain guards, engine under cowling, heated grips, knuckle covers, mirror extensions, a lower seat, larger footrests, bags, and much more. And don’t worry; the bike is also designed to take on these accessories, so you don’t have to jerry-rig everything with zip ties. You can truly make this bike your own without voiding the warranty.

Stroms Past The Competition

The Suzuki V-Strom 650 may not be the most cutting-edge, the most capable, or the fastest middleweight adventure bike, but it sits in the sweet spot that many of its competitors can’t . For example, its closest rival, the Kawasaki Versys 650, is more road-biased and fails to be a capable off-roader. The Tenere 700 is a competent off-roader but good luck commuting on it. Even the Tiger Sport 660 lacks the flexibility that V-Strom 650XT offers. Yes, there’s the Tiger 850 that can beat the 650XT, but that’s also a lot more expensive.

The Mature Choice For A Mature Rider

We all know at least one experienced bike that has moved from a superbike to a “more manageable” middleweight because adrenaline is no longer their top priority. The Suzuki V-Strom 650XT is the perfect bike for such riders. It does lag behind its competitors in some regards, but it highlights the benefit of a gradual evolution of what works and what can be improved. The V-Strom 650 line is known for being reliable, low-cost and balanced , and the 650XT is no different. In the classic Suzuki sense, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
