"Summer is coming to an end (well, not in [Australia]) … which means it’s time to think about cold weather (in [the U.S.]!) Announcing a TON of NEW Holiday Show dates to warm up your November and December," Criss captioned his Instagram post announcing the dates.

Pre-sale will begin this Wednesday, September 13 at 10:00 am local time. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, September 15 at 10:00 am local.  Click here for more information on how to buy tickets.

Criss released his first-ever holiday album entitled “A Very Darren Crissmas” on Decca Records in 2021. In it, he brought his radiant imagination and encyclopedic musical knowledge to a wildly eclectic collection of songs: big-band standards and novelty tunes, mid-century musical numbers and modern-day folk-pop ballads.

Criss’ original track “Drunk on Christmas” featuring country chart-topper Lainey Wilson, showcased his effortless ingenuity as a songwriter. The result is an essential new entry into the holiday-music canon, both thrillingly unpredictable and touched with a timeless sense of Christmas magic.

Made with Ron Fair, multi-Grammy® nominee and producer of numerous GRAMMY-winning hits, “A Very Darren Crissmas” also featured special guest appearances by  Adam Lambert  and  Evan Rachel Wood . “A Very Darren Crissmas” was only the latest evidence of Criss’ singular gifts as a song interpreter.

About Darren Criss

Since bursting onto the pop-culture landscape over a decade ago,  Darren  Criss has embodied the kind of kaleidoscopic artistry that’s entirely uninhibited by form or genre. The multi-hyphenates illustrious career spans television, film, music and stage.

He’s currently starring opposite Evan Rachel Wood in the Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors and can be heard as the voice of St. Peter in the hit Amazon series “Hazbin Hotel”. In 2021, Criss shared the Broadway stage opposite Sam Rockwell and Laurence Fishburne in American Buffalo , which received a Tony Award-nomination for Best Revival of a Play. He also co-hosted “The Tony Awards: Act One” with Julianne Hough. The duo kicked off their hosting duties with a rousing performance of singing and dancing to an original tune written by Criss, titled “Set The Stage.” In 2015, he returned to the stage as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch . In the titular role, critics alike raved, including The New York Times calling his performance “mesmerizing.” He made his Broadway debut in 2012 as J. Pierrepont Finch in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying . With Criss at the helm, the revival made just under $4 million, which proved to be the most lucrative three weeks of its 11-month run.

His portrayal of Andrew Cunanan in Ryan Murphy’s award-winning television series “American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace” was met with widespread critical acclaim, earning Criss a Primetime Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors’ Guild Award and Critics’ Choice Award. Known for playing Blaine Anderson on FOX’s global phenomenon “Glee,” he was nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. He also received an Emmy Award nomination in 2015 for Best Original Music and Lyrics for the song “This Time,” which appeared in the series finale.

As a singer and songwriter, Criss released his first-ever holiday album entitled “A Very  Darren  Crissmas” on Decca Records in 2021. Made with Ron Fair, multi-Grammy® nominee and producer of numerous GRAMMY-winning hits, “A Very  Darren  Crissmas” also featured special guest appearances by Adam Lambert and Evan Rachel Wood.

“A Very  Darren  Crissmas” was only the latest evidence of Criss’ singular gifts as a song interpreter. In 2021, he delivered a collection of character-driven singles as part of his solo EP titled “Masquerade” (BMG). In 2017, his EP “Homework” debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Album chart and in the same year, introduced his indie-pop band Computer Games. Through the years he’s also written songs for the comedy musical “Royalties,” “Central Park,” co-wrote “Starting Now” for Disney and performed by Brandy, and headlined the iHeartRadio Music Festival with Steve Aoki.

Prior to his television career, the San Francisco native pursued his acting degree at the University of Michigan. In his senior year, Criss and his friends created a Harry Potter musical parody entitled, “A Very Potter Musical” as a fun project for their classmates, friends and other Harry Potter fans. Along with starring as the boy wizard himself, Criss also lent several of his songs to be used in the show. Within weeks of posting the musical online, it became a YouTube hit, garnering millions of views and musical theater‐world attention.

Using “A Very Potter Musical” as a springboard, Criss and his writing partners started StarKid Productions. Within a year, they wrote and produced subsequent online hits like “Starship” and “A Very Potter Sequel,” both of which he wrote the music and lyrics for. As a result, the StarKid brand has grown to become just as popular as the shows themselves, spawning an enormous cult following from all over the world.

Criss and StarKid Productions appeared on the Billboard charts through four separate releases – all within the year 2012. These include the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top Cast Album for “Starship,” the #19 spot on the Top Compilations chart for “A Very StarKid Album,” and the #30 spot on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart with Criss’ self‐released EP “Human.”

Criss’ credits include host of ABC’s “The Queen Family Singalong,” “Muppets Haunted Mansion,” “Midway,” “Girl Most Likely,” “American Horror Story,” “Web Therapy,” and “Eastwick.” He is also the founder of New York City’s first show tunes music festival, Elsie Fest.

Darren Criss “A Very Merry Crissmas”

About the show.

Since bursting onto the pop-culture landscape over a decade ago, Darren Criss has embodied the kind of kaleidoscopic artistry that’s entirely uninhibited by form or genre.  For this concert, Darren will be performing a playlist of songs featured throughout his wildly eclectic career as both a songwriter and performer.

Before Darren Criss exploded into the internet’s subculture as both an actor and songwriter for the YouTube viral hit  A Very Potter Musical  in 2009, he had made a small name for himself playing unique interpretations of popular songs he’d perform at cafes and bars in his hometown of San Francisco. Little did he know that the same knack for covering tunes would serve him well in 2010, when he was cast on FOX’s massively successful musical series  Glee , from which many of his performances of popular songs would lead to several Billboard-topping records. In 2015 his songwriting also landed an Emmy nomination for Best Original Music and Lyrics, from penning the song “This Time” for the show’s series finale.

Criss has continued to write and produce music extensively through the years, whether for his own releases as an artist or as a songwriter for theater, film & television. In 2019 Criss created, executive produced, starred in, and provided all the original songs for his short-form musical comedy series  Royalties,  and earlier this year provided the music & lyrics for the opening number of the 2022 Tony Awards: Act One. As an artist, he most recently delivered a genre-diverse collection of “character-driven” singles as part of his 2021 solo EP titled “Masquerade” (BMG) , and in the same year, released a full-length Christmas album titled- aptly- A Very Darren Crissmas (Decca).

Darren Criss says he’s queer at heart.

The straight, cisgender actor explained why he gravitates toward gay characters during the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo on Saturday, where he told audiences that he has been “culturally queer my whole life.”

At a panel discussion reported on by Entertainment Weekly , Criss talked about getting his start on the turn-of-the-2010s show “Glee,” which broke ground with how it depicted LGBTQ relationships on the small screen.

“It was fucking awesome,” he said of playing Blaine Anderson, a high school a capella singer who was the partner of glee club standout Kurt Hummel, played by Chris Colfer.

“Nowadays, we just call it a relationship on TV,” Criss explained. “But to contextualize it, a gay relationship on mainstream Fox, that’s a pretty cool thing to be a part of.”

“I have been so culturally queer my whole life,” he went on. “Not because I’m trying — you know, actually, I was gonna say not because I’m trying to be cool but I’m gonna erase that, because I am trying to be cool. The things in my life that I have tried to emulate, learn from and be inspired by are 100% queer as fuck.”

Darren Criss appears at C2E2 Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo at McCormick Place on April 27. He talked about being "culturally queer" during a panel discussion.

“It was in queer communities that I’ve found people that I idolize, that I want to learn something from,” the star explained. “And I’d say that’s a gross generalization, that’s a lot of things and a lot of people.”

“But I grew up in San Francisco in the ’90s. I watched men die,” he continued. “There was an awareness of the gay experience that was not a foreign concept to me. So, it was a narrative that I cared deeply about.”

While Criss said it’s been an honor to represent queer people on-screen, he made a pledge to stop taking roles as gay characters in 2018.

“There are certain [queer] roles that I’ll see that are just wonderful,” he told Bustle at the time. “But I want to make sure I won’t be another straight boy taking a gay man’s role.”

Criss has won high acclaim for his depiction of queer characters, winning a best actor Emmy for the role of serial killer Andrew Cunanan on 2018’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace.”

He also led the stage musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” playing the titular transgender glam rocker during a 2014 tour and 2015 Broadway run.

Darren Criss

Darren Criss has played queer roles over the years and is now explaining why he says he’s “culturally gay.”

One of the actor’s most remembered roles is Blaine Anderson from Glee, and during an appearance at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, he was asked about the impact of his character and the on-screen relationship with Chris Colfer’s Kurt.

“I have been so culturally queer my whole life,” he said. “Not because I’m trying, you know, actually, I was gonna say, not because I’m trying to be cool, but I’m gonna erase that, because I am trying to be cool. The things in my life that I have tried to emulate, learn from, and be inspired by are 100 percent queer as f***.”

Criss continued, “It was in queer communities that I’ve found people that I idolize, that I want to learn something from. And I’d say that’s a gross generalization, that’s a lot of things and a lot of people. But I grew up in San Francisco in the ’90s. I watched men die. There was an awareness of the gay experience that was not a foreign concept to me. So, it was a narrative that I cared deeply about.”

The actor portrayed Blaine in the series Glee for six seasons and went on to play other gay characters, like Andrew Cunanan, in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace . He also played the titular role in the Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch .

Darren Criss Says ‘I’ve Been So Culturally Queer My Whole Life’ and It Was a ‘F—ing Privilege’ to Play a Gay Character on ‘Glee’

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - APRIL 27: Darren Criss speaks on stage during the C2E2 Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo at McCormick Place on April 27, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images)

Darren Criss made headlines out of this year’s Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) for saying he’s “culturally queer” (via Entertainment Weekly ). The 37-year-old actor gained fame for starring as Blaine Anderson on five seasons of the Fox musical comedy series “ Glee .” Blaine was an openly gay character. Criss, who identifies as a straight, had no qualms about taking on the role and said it was “fucking awesome.”

Popular on Variety

Blaine became one of the most popular characters on “Glee” thanks to his budding romance with Chris Colfer’s Kurt. Although Criss does not identify as gay, he is happy his breakout role was playing an openly gay character.

“In many ways, I’m glad it was me because it was a thing I really liked showing,” Criss said. “It meant a great deal to me and it meant a great deal to other people. Because when people say they were affected by that show or that relationship, it’s not because of me, it’s because of that relationship on TV and the risks that people took to put that on TV.”

Criss concluded by calling the chance to play a gay character like Blaine “a fucking privilege, and I love talking about it and I’m so grateful I got to do it.”

Head over to Entertainment Weekly’s website for more coverage on Criss’ C2E2 conversation.

Pskov, Russia

You are here, about pskov.

Often referred to as the Town of Purling Waters, Pskov is a unique historic destination in Russia. Here are some brief facts: year of Founding - 903, population - 202,780, interesting fact - In March 1917, the last Russian tsar abdicated his throne in this city.

The first historic mention of Pskov was in the wedding record of Igor of Kiev to St. Olga in 903. With a foundation in love and romance, how could this city be anything but enchanting?

Reasons to travel to Pskov

Teetering on the border of Russia and Estonia, Pskov, like most Russian cities, has seen its share of war. One of its most important heroes was Dovmont, a Lithuanian prince who fortified the town in 1266. The 14th century found Pskov as the center of a young republic, seen by Europe as the westernmost Russian outpost. This position brought it dozens of attacks and sieges, rendering unspeakable damage to the city's relics and buildings. Eventually, though, the city and republic fell in 1510 to Muscovite forces.

Modern Pskov still provides a plethora of historic sites that have withstood warfare. The city walls themselves date back to the 13th century, enduring attacks from the Muscovites, the Polish, the German, and other invaders. One of the landmarks to certainly place on your Pskov itinerary is the Trinity Cathedral which looms inside the medieval citadel, holding the tomb of Dovmont, the Lithuanian prince.

In contrast, Pskov also boasts a number of small, quaint churches such as St. Basil's on the Hill, St. Nicholas's from Usokha, and St. George's from the Downhill which you can check out during your Pskov sightseeing tour. Moreover, the Pskov Monastery of the Caves is a must-see; it is the oldest still-functioning monastery in Russia. And, for the literature fans, the grave of Alexander Pushkin resides just outside the city.

Stroll through this historically rich city during your Russian getaway , bask in the reverence of its churches, or pay homage to one of the world's greatest poets.
