According to the myth, Leto, the mother of Apollo, gave birth to him on this island that suddenly emerged from the sea. In fact, the name Delos means that which emerged . An island with a history of 3,000 years, Delos was the most important religious centre in the antiquity. The island was not inhabited but it was frequently visited by pilgrims who were coming here to pay their respects and give their gifts to god Apollo. Gradually the island also became a political centre and gave its name to the Delian League, an alliance of ancient towns with Athens as leader. During your visit on the island, you can see the temple of Apollo, the famous Lions of Delos, the ancient theatre, the temple of Leto and many other monuments. Do not also miss visiting the Archaeological Museum of Delos , which displays various findings that were excavated on this island. The island of Delos is a very impressive place and is actually an open archaeological museum. After Delos, we head to Mykonos , one of the most cosmopolitan tourist destinations in the world. You will have some hours spare for exploring the narrow streets of Mykonos Town , have a coffee in Little Venice , see the splendid view from the windmills or even have a quick swim. In the afternoon, we return Naxos . Your guide will come to meet you onboard, to give you your "skip the line" entrance tickets and proceed all together for the visit of the site of Delos. This way you will avoid the crowds, lines and waiting in the sun.

Excursion à Delos et Mykonos depuis Naxos.

Organisée au départ de Naros, cette excursion Delos et Mykonos vous permettra de découvrir et d’admirer Mykonos et Delos, un site historique classique vraiment exceptionnel.

En effet, l’ensemble du territoire de  Délos  est l’un des sites archéologiques les plus importants de la Méditerranée orientale.

C’est le lieu dans les Cyclades à ne pas manquer pour les amoureux de la culture grecque antique. Selon la mythologie grecque, l’île est le lieu de naissance du Dieu Apollon et de la Déesse Artémis.

Vous pourrez y admirer les vestiges des temples dédiés aux diverses divinités, et de bâtiments anciens comme des structures commerciales, des marchés, mais aussi des trésors et des œuvres d’art.

C’est sur cette petite île que serait né Apollon, dieu de la lumière. Zeus, dieu et roi de l’Olympe, tomba sous le charme de Léto. Il ne put s’empêcher de faire une nouvelle infidélité à sa femme, la très jalouse Héra.

Lorsque cette dernière découvrit que Léto attendait des jumeaux (Artemis et Apollon), la déesse lança à ses trousses le serpent Python et ordonna à la terre de ne jamais offrir d’asile à sa rivale. Le dieu de la mer, Poséidon la prit en pitié. Il plongea son trident dans la mer et fit émerger Délos pour qu’elle puisse accoucher. Pour la naissance d’Apollon, les grecs firent construire un sanctuaire en son honneur.

Délos est considéré comme le centre des Cyclades , avec ces îles diverses et variée tournant tout autour.

Lors de cette excursion, après la visite de Delos, vous pourrez également découvrir  Mykonos , Chora sa capitale et ses ruelles pleines de charme, ses moulins et la fameuse petite Venise.

CETTE EXCURSION A LIEU LES MARDI, JEUDI, SAMEDI, avec un départ depuis la marina de Naxos, dans la capitale Chora. Il faut se rendre directement à l’embarcadère. La vedette Naxos Star se rendra auparavant à Paros pour prendre les participants depuis cette ile.

Ne pas manquer la très belle et plus ancienne chapelle de Panagia Paraportiani, le quartier de la petite Venise visible aussi depuis lesfameux moulins, les innombrables petites chapelles, aux dômes et boiseries peints en bordeaux, une fois n’est pas coutume dans les Cyclades.

In Mykonos Town, there is only one area which is called MYKONOS WATERFRONT, the Old port.

At one end of this long moonshaped bay, there is the only TILE ROOFED BUILDING in Mykonos.

This is the Town Hall of Mykonos and exactly opposite this building, there is a small blue domed chapel (dedicated to St. Nicholas).

As you walk past these two buildings (having the Town Hall on your left and the chaple on the right), straight ahead there is a pier where you will find Delos Tours Ticket

Kiosk and all the vessels departing for Delos.

Delos – Mykonos

Departing from the port of Naxos and after 45 minutes of travel, the boat arrives at the isle of Delos, a must-see in Greece, and an UNESCO world heritage site. The ancient sanctuary and open air museum has an entrance fee of up to 8,00 euro per person. With a 3 hour stop, visitors have the time to admire the unique archaeological site. Half an hour away is the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos. A four hours stay gives the opportunity to walk through the beautiful streets, visit the famous “Little Venice” and enjoy a stroll through the shops on the island.

Visiter Délos en Grèce : conseils et infos pratiques

Située au cœur des Cyclades, l’île de Délos est un site archéologique majeur en Grèce . C’est, avec Delphes , le principal sanctuaire de la Grèce antique . L’île de Délos est d’ailleurs parmi les 20 sites en Grèce classés au patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco . Le lieu est absolument unique : un « musée » à ciel ouvert entre ciel et mer. L’île est inhabitée, pas âme qui vive, seulement des vestiges extraordinaires . En débarquant sur l’île, on se sent hors du temps et on est ébloui, au sens propre comme au sens figuré, par cette ancienne cité de marbre étincelante. Délos est d’ailleurs classée au patrimoine mondial de l’Humanité par l’Unesco. Voici tous nos conseils pratiques pour visiter Délos.

Comment aller à Délos ?

Visiter l’île de délos en grèce : tarifs et billets, horaires et jours d’ouverture, faut-il visiter délos seul ou avec un guide , conseils pratiques pour visiter délos en grèce, légende, histoire et monuments de délos.

L’île de Délos en Grèce est inhabitée et accessible uniquement par bateau . En général, elle se visite depuis Mykonos . Car en effet, le plus simple pour rejoindre Délos est de prendre un bateau depuis le port de pêche du centre-ville de Mykonos.

Pour accéder à Mykonos , il faut prendre un ferry depuis les ports du Pirée ou de Rafina . La durée de la traversée varie entre 3h30 et 5 heures. Pendant la saison touristique, il y a deux ou trois vols par jour.

Pour se rendre de Mykonos à Délos , on peut louer une embarcation à moteur ou prendre place à bord de l’un des caïques qui transportent grand nombre de touristes. Il y a plusieurs bateaux dans la matinée et le retour se fait généralement dans l’après-midi. La durée de la traversée varie de 45mn à 1h30 environ selon l’état de la mer. On débarque à Délos près de l’ancien Port Sacré, aujourd’hui ensablé. Lorsque la mer est trop forte, les caïques abordent à l’anse de Gourna, près de la pointe nord-est de l’île.

Différentes compagnies assurent la traversée entre Délos et Mykonos. La traversée coûte une vingtaine d’euros. Vous pouvez acheter vos billets :

• directement dans les agences sur le port Mykonos
• en ligne sur le site GetYourGuide . Le gros avantage est la facilité de réservation en ligne en quelques clics et surtout la possibilité d’annulation gratuite : annulation jusqu’à 24 heures à l’avance pour un remboursement intégral. En été, le site est en principe ouvert à 8h jusqu’à 18h30 ou 19h30 . En hiver, les horaires de fermeture évoluent entre 16h et 18h. Attention, les horaires évoluent, notamment en raison de restrictions de personnel. Vérifiez bien sur  le site officiel  quelques jours avant votre visite.

La meilleure saison pour visiter Délos est le printemps , quand l’île est toute verte et parsemée de petites fleurs sauvages.

• 18 mai (Journée internationale des musées)
• Le dernier week-end de septembre chaque année (Journées européennes du patrimoine)
• Tous les premiers dimanches du 1er novembre au 31 mars

On peut distinguer à Délos quatre groupes principaux de ruines :

• La cité religieuse d’Apollon ou Hiéron (sanctuaire)
• La région du lac Sacré
• Les sanctuaires du Cynthe et le quartier du théâtre
• Le port marchand et les petits sanctuaires

Pour visiter le site, il faut compter 3 ou 4 heures au moins , y compris la montée au Cynthe.

Les panneaux informatifs sur le site sont extrêmement succincts, c’est dommage. Il n’est vraiment pas facile de visiter (et comprendre) le site de Délos par ses propres moyens . On le regrette. Visiter Délos en Grèce avec un guide est donc incontestablement un plus . Cela permet de vraiment comprendre le site, son architecture, son importance dans l’Antiquité.

Des agences de voyages à Mykonos proposent des visites guidées. Mais sachez qu’il n’est pas toujours facile de trouver une visite guidée en français. Nous avons cherché et nous avons repéré  cette visite de Délos en français , qui a d’excellents commentaires.

Il faut compter entre 50 et 60€ pour une visite guidée comprenant la traversée, les billets d’entrée sur le site et les services du guide.

Anticipez votre visite :

• Transfert sur l’île de Délos depuis Mykonos (billet non inclus)
• Excursion guidée de Délos en Français (comprend le transfert depuis Mykonos, l’entrée au site de Délos, la visite avec un guide francophone)

• L’île est inhabitée. Il y a une cafétéria sur place mais avec peu de choix et des prix élevés. Donc mieux vaut apporter de l’eau et un en-cas.
• Prenez de quoi vous protéger du soleil . Un chapeau est vivement conseillé en été car il n’y a pas d’ombre et il fait très chaud.
• Pensez à prendre des lunettes de soleil car le site étant en marbre, les visiteurs sont éblouis par les reflets du soleil
• Privilégiez des baskets ou des chaussures fermées . Il peut y avoir des serpents sur place.
• Attention : il est strictement interdit de fumer sur le site en raison de risques d’incendie.
• A quel moment de la journée visiter le site ?  A titre personnel, nous vous conseillons, en juillet-août, de visiter le site l’après-midi (vérifiez bien les horaires de fermeture avant votre venue car, hors-saison, il ferme tôt) et de repartir par le dernier bateau pour Mykonos. Cela permet d’échapper aux foules matinales et de visiter Délos plus tranquillement.
• Combien de temps dure la visite ?  Tout dépend du monde et de votre intérêt pour ce site. Il faut compter au moins trois heures sur place .

Where to watch movies for free in Moscow this summer

People watching a movie in a Pioner 24-hour open-air cinema in Gorky Park.

Temporary cinemas will be popping up across Moscow very soon, starting from July 16. All of the spots are brilliant examples of either constructivist or avant-garde architecture, so expect striking settings. A selection of classic Soviet films will be aired using cinematic equipment from the last century. All the screenings are free although online registration is required beforehand, while there will also be guided tours of the spaces, organized by the “Moscow through the Engineer's Eyes” company.

Bread factory

Following the success of former factories transformed into art spaces (VinZavod, Arma, Trekhgornaya manufacture), Khlebzavod (“bread factory”) No 9 is one newly opened joint that is attracting creative types from all over the city. The movie Time! Forward! will be screened in the building’s boiler room on July 16. It follows workers from the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, one of the largest steel companies in Russia, and is based on a novel by Soviet writer Valentin Kataev.

What’s more, Khlebzavod is a monument to constructivist architecture. Where better to watch such a film?

Roof of the Narkomfin Building

The Narkomfin Building was originally designed to house high ranking employees at the Commissariat of Finance. It was built by architects Moisei Ginsburg and Ignaty Milinis. Also a fine example of constructivism, it’s currently in a state of disrepair, locked down, and fairly difficult to get into - which is like a red flag to a bull for more adventurous types.

However, on July 30 the place will be opened up and people will be welcomed onto the roof to watch the film Faith and Truth.

Khrushchyovka courtyard

A courtyard located in the 9th experimental block of the Novye Cheremushki district will turn into an outdoor cinema this summer. Cheremushki is the first district where Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchyov decided to build the iconic Khrushchyovka apartment blocks in the 1950s. As a result, thousands of Russians were given their own pads after decades living huddled together in communal apartments known as kommunalka .

Cheremushki is the adapted film-version of Dmitry Shostakovich’s operetta and will be shown here on Aug. 6. The organizers of the multiple screenings - the Moskino cinema chain - say they will revive the Soviet tradition of neighbors meeting in courtyards for a good old tongue wag. There will also be a guided tour of the block.

Pioneers Palace

If you want a slice of the postwar Soviet avant-garde style, head to the Pioneers Palace at Vorobyevy Gory. Pioneers Palaces were youth centers for sport, creativity, and hobbies for Young Pioneers (a communist organization for children) during the Soviet Union. There were dance classes, martial arts, drawing, and many other activities.

To Love a Man , a movie about two young architects building a new town in Siberia, will be shown here on Aug. 22. There will also be a lecture about building experiments in the 20th century.

A secret place

The last cinema venue remains a secret. On Aug. 27 there will be a screening, but at the moment no one knows where. Information will appear on mos-kino.ru but those who attend all four screenings above will be able to guess the last location.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
