Malakkappara

Malakkappara or Malakhappara is one of the beautiful hill stations encircled by Parambikulam Tiger Reserve , Anamalai Tiger Reserve, and Nelliyampathy hills. The route to Malakkapara through the Sholayar forest is enchanting. Riders have a fascination to drive from Chalakudy to Pollachi and vice versa. En-route tourists can stop at Athirapally waterfalls, Vazhachal, Malakkapara, and Valparai . A favorite viewpoint is the Aliyar Dam which can be spotted from the hairpin bends. The 40 hairpin bends have different sightseeing spots and are a fascination. The journey to Malakappara is unforgettable as the mist-covered roads, tea plants with water drops, cool breeze , and magical. However, it is advised to be careful while you drive through Malakkapara as wildlife always causes a threat.

Malakkapara is a scenic forest area located in the Thrissur district in Kerala. Comprising of thick forests, tea estates, and hills part of the Western Ghats, the place is a great tourist spot. If you love to explore the forest, you will find many rare animal and plant species here. Athirappilly waterfall, Vazhachal forest region, and Thumboormuzhi dam are en route to Malakkappara. Each of these destinations is worth a visit for its enchanting beauty.

The best route to reach the Malakkappara is through Chalakkudi- Anamala road. From Chalakkudy town, the 86-kilometer drive to the destination is laden with wonders. A slow ride through the winding road is at once exciting and rejuvenating. You can feel all your stress draining away with each hour spent in the bosom of mother nature.

KSRTC launches Kottayam-Malakkappara budget tourism trip

Are you ready for a bus ride through the forests from Kottayam to Malakkappara? If yes, then the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has the right tour package, which was rolled out as a New Year gift, for you.

The KSRTC will be running the services on January 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30, and the bus will start from Kottayam bus station at 6am and return at 11pm. The tickets for the exciting bus ride can be reserved between 10am and 2pm.

The exhilarating bus tour through the wilderness will give an opportunity to the tourists to see wild animals in their natural habitat. The bus will also touch tourist centers such as Athirappilly, Charpa, Vazhachal, Peringalkuthu dam and Sholayar dam. The travellers will also get the chance to soak in the beauty of the verdant forests of Malakkappara.

The bus ticket rate is Rs 600 per person exclusive of entry fees, food and other travel expenses. The residents’ associations and kudumbashree units can book tickets in bulk for the excursion.

The Thrissur-Malakkappara budget trip, which was launched earlier by the KSRTC, was well received by the tourists. Plans are on the anvil to launch a Kottayam-Parunthumpara bus tour package in the near future, say KSRTC officials.

Athirappilly to Malakkapara Jungle Safari with KSRTC

Malakkappara is an unexplored tourist destination. Many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna are found in the forests of Malakkappara.

The village of Malakkappara is located in the Thrissur district of Kerala state, India. It is an unexplored tourist destination, even though it’s rich in natural beauty. Malakkappara comes under comparatively lesser developed regions of the state. However, this hamlet is famous for the Tea Estate of the Tata Company in its area.

The forest area under Malakkappara is maintained by the Kerala Forest Department. This village is home to some rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. 96 Kilometers from Chalakudy, the drive up to Malakkappara village should take under 2 hours. Malakkappara lies on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu states.

The roads turn misty, during the early morning hours and the sky becomes clearer as the day descends. The forests of this area are thrilling and amazing. There are several small waterfalls and natural spots where one would want to make a stoppage, during transit. The area is photographic and the virginity of the village, beckons the traveler into its fold. An encounter with the wildlife such as monkeys is a natural phenomenon in the area. However, due to the decrease in the forest area, wild elephants and leopards are posing as a constant threat, to the human habitat in the village.

Holy Land replica at Chalakudy

A park like structure made, depicting the life of Jesus Christ, is the Holy Land of Chalakudy. Several statues of the Lord are placed along the pathway and every scene in the life of Jesus Christ is described through pictures, with a constant commentary, describing the significance of each part of His living.

At a distance of 37 kilometers from Chalakudy, on the road to Athirapally, lies Annakayam, meaning ‘elephant’s pit’ or simply lake. The lake is cool with placid waters. The forest area in Annakayam is yet to be explored by humans. Therefore, it is quite a secluded area, where one can explore the wilderness of the forest without any outer disturbances. The gurgling streams, unique rock formations and the exquisite plant life in the region, attract the tourists to this destination.

Athirapally Waterfalls

These falls are said to be the largest waterfalls in the Asian continent! They are created by the Chalakudy River, which begins from the Sholayar ranges in the Western Ghats. These falls are surrounded by forests and little streams also flow by. This cascade is at its best during the months of monsoon, from June to October, as it remains almost dry during the rest of the year.

Most of the people living in Malakkappara are tea estate workers. They either speak Malayalam or English languages. The cities near Malakkappara village are Chalakudy, Irinjalakuda, Ashtamichira and Guruvayoor. Chalakudy railway station is the nearest to Malakkapara village, but road transport is more suitable in this area. Malakkappara comes under Chalakudy and Athirapally tourism area. Most of the tour packages including Malakkappara are combined with Athirapally. Several eco-tours and adventure tours are organized in this part of Kerala state.

Misty Malakkappara enchants travellers

Athirappilly: The rush of travellers to Malakkappara region is shooting up with the introduction of KSRTC tourist services. Tourism has turned out to be the major source of income of the locals here.

The number of tourists, who come for a journey through heavy mist enjoying the flora and fauna here, is increasing day by day. In many KSRTC depots, the Malakkappara services till January are already fully booked.

Heavy rush is experienced in the shops that sell tea dust and spices. The tribals of the region can also generate an income if ecoshops displaying their products are set up near the tourist sites. However, the lack of basic facilities pose a challenge in Malakkappara.

The authorities have to ensure that proper sanitation facilities are available for the travellers. Though the panchayat has a comfort station, it is used for accommodating road construction workers. Hence, the visitors and locals urge to improve the facilities in this tourism potential region.

KSRTC bus to take tourists to Malakkappara from Chalakudy

Chalakudy: KSRTC has launched a special service from Chalakudy to Malakkapara to allow the travel freaks to enjoy a ride through the forest path. The sights of evergreen rain forests and the tea plantations in Malakkapara will delight the passengers along with the crisp climate. They will also get a glimpse of the herd of elephants, bison, leopard and many birds including Great pied hornbills. The ticket charge from Chalakudy to Malakkapara is Rs 102.

The KSRTC special buses will take the passengers to tourist spots such as Athirappilly- Vazhachal waterfalls, Peringalkuthu, Sholayar dam, reservoirs and borders of Tamil Nadu.

KSRTC decided to begin a special service when the number of travellers to Malakkapara increased recently. The special KSRTC service that starts at 8.20 am from Chalakudy will reach the destination at 1 pm. The bus will also halt at several viewpoints in between the trip.

The bus will halt at Malakkapara for two hours and depart at 3 pm. The bus will reach Chalakudy at 6 pm. Online pre-booking service will start soon, informed KSRTC.

The first Malakkapara special service was operated on Saturday. If the travellers demand, KSRTC is also planning to operate this service on holidays too. The special service will be available on October 2 too.
