The Mekong Delta is easily accessible by road, waterways, and air from various cities in Vietnam, such as Ho Chi Minh City , Can Tho, and Rach Gia. One of the most popular ways to get to the Mekong Delta is by taking a boat tour from Ho Chi Minh City, which allows visitors to explore the picturesque canals and floating markets of the region.

For those who prefer a faster mode of transportation, flights are available from Ho Chi Minh City.

You can cut a fair bit of travel time by taking a flight to or from the delta. Phu Quoc Island has the most connections, with services to the mainland cities of Can Tho, Rach Gia and Ca Mau as well as some from within the delta area itself.

Mekong Delta boat tours

Boat tours provide a great way to explore the Mekong Delta. There are plenty of options for day trips and multi-day liveaboard boat trips available from various cities. However, we recommend choosing just one destination since most day tours follow a similar itinerary.

The number of days needed in the Mekong Delta when travelling there depends on personal preferences and interests, but generally, a 2-3 day trip is recommended to explore the highlights of the region.

This allows for enough time to take a boat tour of the delta's waterways, visit local villages, and sample the region's delicious cuisine. However, for those who want to really immerse themselves in the area's laid-back atmosphere and way of life, a longer stay, perhaps up to a week or more, may be ideal.

The Mekong Delta offers boat tours, motorbike rentals, public transportation, private cars/drivers, and diverse attractions. Planning ahead is key, especially regarding weather conditions. Heat, humidity, and heavy rain can affect the region. Dressing appropriately and staying hydrated will make your travels more comfortable.

By motorcycle and bike

With the main roads in the Mekong Delta often congested with traffic, it's a great idea to rent a bike or motorbike. This is a fantastic way to fully immerse yourself in the unhurried life of the region.

Locals used to do much of their travelling on the cargo boats that still crawl around the delta’s waterways. However, the increased prevalence of motorbikes has led to many routes being cut, and this is no longer a viable way of getting around for visitors.

There are plenty of bus services to and around the delta, though journeys can be long, and the scenery samey and uninspiring. Traffic has to stop occasionally at the ferries that make road travel in the delta possible, though the completion of some long-awaited bridges has sped up travel times.

The best time to visit the Mekong Delta is during the dry season, which lasts from December to May. During this period, the weather is generally sunny and dry, and the water levels are lower, making it easier to explore the region's waterways.

The wet season, from June to November, can be more challenging for travel due to frequent heavy rain and flooding. However, it's also a great time to witness the vibrant greenery and lush landscapes of the delta, as well as experience the annual floating markets that take place during this time.

Mekong Delta Handbook: Essential Travel Tips

When is the best time to visit mekong delta.

The dry season from December to April is ideal, offering easier travel conditions and vibrant local festivals.

Transportation Tips

A. getting to vietnam.

Flying is the most convenient way to reach Vietnam. The two main international airports are Hanoi (Noi Bai Airport) for adventures starting in the North and Saigon Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City) for trips starting in the South. For a budget adventure, you can also take an overland bus from Cambodia, Laos, or Thailand to Southeast Asia.

B. How to get to Mekong Delta

Flying into Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is the most convenient option to reach the Mekong Delta. For a unique experience, consider a boat journey via the Mekong River from Cambodia. Once in Ho Chi Minh City, you can travel to the Delta by bus or private car, with the journey usually taking about 2-3 hours.

C. How to get around in Mekong Delta

Large cities in the Mekong Delta, like Can Tho or Rach Gia, have bus systems and taxis to get around. They’re less chaotic than huge cities like Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi, so you can rent a bicycle or motorbike. Buses are also available to take you between cities.

The Mekong Delta region is much more spread out in rural areas, but it’s one of the most scenic parts of Vietnam and completely flat. For both those reasons, riding a bicycle around is a fantastic option. For long distances, hiring a taxi is the best option.

Before You Go

  • Visa: Check visa requirements based on your nationality. Learn more about getting a Vietnam Visa before visiting the Mekong Delta .
  • Timezone: Vietnam is in the Indochina Time Zone (ICT), UTC+7.
  • Voltage: The standard voltage is 220V, and the outlets usually accept three different plugs: A, C, and F. If you are from Europe, Japan, or the Americas, your plugs will work fine. Otherwise, you’ll need an adapter. Note that many Vietnamese outlets do not have a third hole for grounding, and so can only accept two-pronged plugs.
  • Internet: Most hotels, cafes, and even restaurants in the Mekong Delta offer free Wi-Fi; Wi-Fi plans are so cheap in Vietnam that almost all businesses have one. But it’s easy, inexpensive, and well worth buying a local SIM card with a data package at the airport upon arrival.
  • SIM Cards: You can easily purchase SIM cards for data and calls at the airport or local stores. Note that you’ll need to provide your passport to get a SIM. Viettel, Mobifone, and VinaPhone are the best mobile networks for the Mekong Delta and most parts of Vietnam.
  • Currency: Vietnam uses the Vietnamese Dong (VND). VND only comes in bills (no coins), and 1 USD equals about 24,000 VND (commonly abbreviated as 24k). Some shops catering to tourists may accept USD, but most only take VND.
  • Credit Cards: Visa and MasterCard are commonly accepted at large businesses like hotels, indoor restaurants, or upscale shopping venues in the Mekong Delta’s cities. However, smaller villages between cities usually only have a place accepting cards.
  • ATMs: The large cities of the Mekong Delta have some ATMs, most of which accept foreign cards. However, rural areas generally have no ATMs, so you should bring cash out of the urban centers on day trips. Make sure to notify your bank before you travel to Vietnam to avoid blocked ATM transactions.
  • Tipping: Vietnam is not a tipping culture, so a tip is not expected. A tip is a good way to bring a smile to someone’s face, though. Note that cab drivers and tour guides often rely on some tipping, so it’s a good idea to tip them.

Understanding Culture & Customs in Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta has the most cheerful and laid-back culture anywhere in Vietnam. Community, respect for nature, and a slower pace of life are valued. You’ll have trouble offending anyone if you keep a smile, a live-and-let-live attitude in your mind, and a genuine compassion for the people around you in your heart. Discover more about Vietnamese etiquette here.

Common questions about Mekong Delta

For luxury resorts, stay at Azerai in Can Tho or The Island Lodge in My Tho. For cozy homestay accommodation, try Mekong Pottery Homestay in Vinh Long or Homestay Nam Ham Luong in Ben Tre. There are many more options depending on the accommodation type you’re looking for and what area you want to stay in. To browse a few, head to our  Mekong  Delta  hotels  page.

Try fine dining at Spices Restaurant in Can Tho or get some local cuisine at Ut Dzach Fine Rice Vermicelli house. The restaurants in rural areas, like Mekong Rest Stop and Le Longanier Restaurant, often use even more authentic Mekong flavors. For a wider selection of eateries in the area, visit our directory of  Mekong Delta restaurants .

Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region is known for its lush green farmland, vibrant floating markets, and unique river-based culture and way of life. Its endless expanses of easy-to-navigate but vibrant farmland and its picturesque waterways and traditions make it beloved by tourists. Visitors to the Mekong Delta can take a  full-day tour  of the area to get a more thorough picture of what makes it unique.

A few ideas for activities in the Mekong Delta include: Take a  Mekong Experience tour  to see some of the Delta’s biggest cities, take a traditional boat down some of its waterways, and get a glimpse of some of its local agricultural businesses. Take a  Mekong Delta bicycle tour  with a company like Grasshopper Tours or Mr Biker Saigon. Visit one of the  floating markets  the area is famous for.

The months of May through October are the cheapest times to visit the Mekong Delta because the weather during that time is generally rainy and humid. If you’re willing to get a little wet and don’t mind ducking into a cafe during the daily rainfall, you might get some killer deals on travel services. Remember your mosquito spray!

In large cities like Can Tho or My Tho, taxis, ride-hailing apps, and buses are the best ways to get around. In more rural parts of the Mekong,  renting a bicycle  or  motorbike  and driving yourself is the best mode of transport.

December and February are the best months to visit Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region. During this period, the weather is more comfortable, with lower humidity, less rainfall, and cooler temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the region’s natural beauty and cultural attractions. If you’d rather visit at a less crowded time or want to learn more about the weather in the region, check out this guide on  the best time to visit the Mekong Delta .

A day trip on a local tour is enough to catch a glimpse of Mekong Delta culture and cuisine. 3 days is better if you want to stay in one of the region’s cities, like Can Tho, to understand its vibrant urban lifestyle.

Bicycles can be borrowed for free at most accommodations located in the countryside. You can go on your own or with a guide. Because of the many rivers and canals, it can happen that you have to sail with a pound or have to use bridges made by the local population.

The park is located in Dong Thap province, close to the cities of Chau Doc and Long Xuyen. The area is a submerged in-land ecosystem that you explore by boat.

Top Things to See & Do in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam

My Tho makes for a scenic stop-off in Vietnams Mekong Delta

Is it any surprise that this natural wonder features on practically every Vietnam visitor’s bucket list? Fecund and atmospheric, the Mekong Delta is one of the most expansive wetlands in Asia, formed by the vein-like tributaries of the river, where it idles into the Gulf of Thailand. This is an ecologically fragile place where humans have made huge inroads, yet beauty hangs on in there. Rare wildlife, abundant forests and low-level yet vibrant floating markets all await.

5. Relax in Phu Quoc National Park

Suoi Tranh waterfall in Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Phu Quoc, across from the Delta in the Gulf of Thailand, is a popular resort island. Its forests – protected as a National Park – are a refuge for hornbills, nocturnal lorises and long-tailed macaques. A lot of it is off-limits but visitors can wildlife-spot in the Khu Rung Nguyen Sinh Forest – or hike to the peak at Mount Heaven.

6. Disappear into Tra Su Mangrove Forest

Natural Feature

traveler sightseeing over the traditional boat in tra su forest, Mekong Delta travel, vietnam

Packed your binoculars? Not far from Chau Doc city is Tra Su forest, a plantation left to run wild as a reserve in the 1980s. Now it’s a haven for birds, including threatened species such as the painted stork. Between September and November, you’ll see them early morning or late afternoon, when they’re most active and the forest floods. A canoe tour passes along leafy waterways spanned by romantic, rustic wooden bridges.

7. Sam Mountain

Temple at Sam Mountain, Mekong Delta, Vietnam, Indochina, Southeast Asia, Asia

Above the vast flatness of the Mekong plains, 60km (40mi) or so from the city of Long Xuyen, Sam Mountain (Nui Sam) rises like an isolated blister of rock. It is a sacred site for Buddhists, encircled by a pilgrims’ village and speckled with dozens of pagodas and Buddha statues. Paths take you upwards to a temple at the broad peak. From up here, you can look out over patchworks of paddies cut with ribbons of water and groves of palms.

8. Tan Lap Village

Architectural Landmark

Travellers love this rural complex of camps, huts and jetties in the midst of Dong Thap Muoi wetlands close to the Cambodian border; particularly in the wet season, between September and November, when the flower ponds of lotuses are in bloom and locals offer canoe rides. Follow wooden causeways cut among the cajeput trees – known for their essential oils – and climb the observation tower for drone-worthy views over the wilderness.

9. Tram Chim National Park

10. sampan cruise.

The Mekong Delta delivers an intoxicating mix of drifting serenity and floating-market mayhem, the best way to absorb it all being a two-day cruise aboard a sampan. Most tours leave from Ho Chi Minh City and drift through the Mekong’s tangled backwaters, canals and floating villages, taking in Cai Be and Cai Ro markets along the way. Cabins and dining rooms, under palm-thatch canopies, are airy and cool at night. Bring plenty of repellent.

Traveling the Mekong Delta: A Guide to the South of Vietnam

The Mekong Delta, also known as the West or Southwest, is a unique tourist destination of Vietnam. Famous for its maze of rivers, lush countryside and rich heritage, this vast region is filled with nature and life. Therefore, this article delves deeper into learning about traveling to the Mekong Delta. In this guide, we’ll explore its natural beauty, cultural significance, and some of the amazing things you can do in the Mekong Delta. We’d also like to outline for you why this is a must-see area and what really makes the forests, coast and hinterland so great – while also providing a glimpse of number of things you can experience here.

Geographical and Cultural Background of the Mekong Delta

Mekong Delta seen from above

Mekong Delta seen from above

The Mekong Delta is spread across 13 provinces in the southwest area of Vietnam, over 40,500 square kilometers of land. A fertile region with a large network of rivers, canals and swamps that makes it ideal for a great diversity of flora and fauna. The Delta abounds in fertile land: it is one of the larger rice producing areas of Vietnam; orchards of tropical fruits; and aquaculture has developed.[…]

The Mekong Delta is a cultural melting pot with communities of Vietnamese, Khmer, Chinese and Cham living together. This plurality of way of living is evident even through the regions faired, food, and daily living. The Mekong Delta is one of the most important trading and agriculture regions in Vietnam, sustaining the country’s economy for centuries. This amazing combination of cultural influences and historical significance makes a visit to the Mekong Delta a real eye-opener.

Key Attractions and Activities

Floating Markets - Traveling the Mekong Delta

Floating Markets

Visiting its floating markets is one of the most iconic experiences of traveling to the Mekong Delta. Keeping an eye on these markets in Cái Răng and Phong Điền, however, we can grab a flip to the local lives that sparkle around them. Vendors sell a wide range of items off their boats at these markets, which are an explosion of colors reminiscent of photos from Southeast Asia.

While there, visitors can shop for fresh fruits, vegetables and local foods while taking in the sights and sounds. The evening is more desolate, so you better off in the morning at the time when markets are busy. Many tours take you to visit these markets with guides that give you an intro and great tips on how to tackle these markets to your full advantage.

Ecotourism and Nature

Mekong Delta – Nature and ecotourism: The Mekong Delta is a paradise for nature and ecotourism followers. Rivers, canals and extensive orchards punctuate its verdant landscapes. Among popular ecotours are the Trà Sư Cajuput Forest and the city of Cần Thơ.

Those headed for the Trà Sư Cajuput Forest, meanwhile, can wade out into the wetlands and observe the local birdlife. With an array of bird species in the area, bird watchers should feel right at home. In Cantho visitors can take boat trips to experience the natural beauty of the Delta in a more authentic way, as well as go up in to the interior canals to look at how life is locally.

Exploring the villages on a cycleRiding through the villages is another favourite activity, to get a feel of the rustic rural life. These activities not only show off the landscapes and the communities that call León home, but also provide you with a peek at their day to day lives.

Local Life and Traditions

Agricultural activities - Traveling the Mekong Delta

Agricultural activities

Heading to the Mekong Delta provides a unique opportunity to get a real insight into daily life and the traditional customs that permeate this bustling region. The rivers and waterways that weave through the delta are inextricably linked to the daily life of its residents. The local economy relies heavily on agriculture and fishing, activities that visitors can experience firsthand.

Farming and Fishing

The local farming and fishing is one of the most satisfying to get involved with. The Delta is the “rice bowl" of Vietnam, home in its vast rice paddies extending as far as the eye can see. Tourists can help farmers with planting or harvesting the rice, and learn about the traditional techniques that have been used for generations. Similarly, fishing plays an important role and the local fishermen practice some different methods to catch fish, and other aquatic creatures. A day spent on the boat of a local fisherman is a hands-on, fun, learning experience.

Traditional Crafts

The Mekong Delta is famous for its traditional crafts that mirrors the enterprising spirit and creativity of its inhabitants. The workshops demonstrate craftsmen preparing lovely, hand-made artefacts from coconut shells, bamboo, and water hyacinth. These crafts which serve as collectable souvenirs offer a rare glimpse into the everyday life and talents of local artisans.

Homestays and Community Activities

To allow a visitor the pleasure of living with a local household and to get the feeling of being one among them, homestay is the best way. Staying at homestays is a way to experience the local life, share meals and also accompanyin them during their daily activities. Fresh, deliciously prepared dishes, using locally bought fresh ingredients would be one of the biggest highlights of living in a homestay. It offers visitors the chance to get hands on in the kitchen, learning how to cook regional favourites including bánh xèo (Vietnamese pancakes) and cá lóc nướng trui (grilled snakehead fish).

Common pre-departure activities include school visitation, culture presentations or community service projects Such experiences can not just add to travel experience but also help you to bond with the locals of Mekong Delta.

Historical and Architectural Sites

The Mekong Delta boasts some historical and architectural highlights that attest its multi-faceted cultural legacy. Visiting these sites can offer a great sense of the history in the region and how it has evolved culturally through the years.

Vĩnh Tràng Pagoda

Vĩnh Tràng Pagoda - Traveling the Mekong Delta

House of Huỳnh Thủy Lê

House of Huỳnh Thủy Lê

This historic house belonged to Huỳnh Thủy Lê, a wealthy Chinese businessman, and is famous for its connection to the French writer Marguerite Duras. The house features a blend of French and Chinese architectural styles, with intricate woodwork, antique furniture, and historical artifacts. In addition, the park has ruins of historical interest, for example the remains of life after the war in Vietnam, there is a similar peace combining natural landscapes and historical contexts.

Practical Considerations

Travel logistics.

If you are considering a visit to the Mekong Delta, longer time periods must be spent on preparing. Dec-Apr is the dry season and the best time for travelling here (there are twelve super-cute thatched villas to stay in) for optimal viewing conditions. It is one of various ways to reach the Delta from cities like Ho Chi Minh City and there are plenty of options to choose from (buses, your private car or a guided tour).

Accommodation

There are budget homestays to luxury in Mekong Delta accommodation. Staying in a homestay is a much more immersive experience, and you would live with a local family, and participate in their daily lives. For those desiring a bit more comfort, there are many hotels and resorts that provide the modern convenience while still allowing you to enjoy the natural beauty and cultural appeal of the area.

Mekong Tours 2 days 1 night with IMPRESS TRAVEL

Mekong Boat Trip

The Mekong River, the ‘Mother of Waters’, is the heart and soul of mainland South-East Asia. Millions of people depend on its waters. It’s a way of life, a home for the spirits, the defining element in the everlasting battle for survival, and the foundation and boundaries of cultures and kingdoms across eons. The river speaks of the past and the future, of the eternally recurring cycles of nature, of the people living upstream and downstream, of survival, beauty and danger.

Foreigners can’t appreciate the role of the river in the lives of those who live in the Mekong basin. It influences every aspect of their daily existence, shaping not only the land, but also the people themselves.

The Mekong Basin extends over 795,000km2. More than 70 million people, 55 million of which inhabit the watershed area lying within Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Viet Nam, depend on the river and its tributaries for food, water and transport. At 4,350km, the Mekong is the longest river in Southeast Asia and the 12th longest in the world.

The river runs from its source deep in China’s Tsinghai Province through the eastern part of Tibet. From Yunnan province, it becomes the border between Myanmar and Laos, and between Laos and Thailand. From there it surges across Cambodia to Phnom Penh, where the Bassac River branches off. The two rivers continue to divide into nine outlets, the Cuu Long (Nine Dragons) of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, and finally discharge into the East Sea. The river is navigable from the delta to Southern Laos, where massive waterfalls near the Cambodian border prevent boats from travelling further.

About nine-tenths of the people in the Lower Mekong Basin are engaged in agriculture, mostly rice production on a massive scale, for which irrigation from the Mekong River is essential. A substantial proportion is exported, thus providing the staple diet of a far greater number than just those living in the area.

The Mekong River is also very rich in fish, the single most important source of animal protein in the diet of people living in the Lower Mekong Basin.

Great value for money with 4 stars hotel accommodation for 4 couples. The tour guide has been very helpful and brought us to amazing places in Sapa. We want to thanks Thuy the tour guide and especially Mark from Impress Travel for his great service and assurance throughout our trip. We’ll definitely use his service for other tour packages in other parts of Vietnam.

I booked with Impress Travel in July. My contact person was Tommy Thang. He is an amazing person. He was very helpful. He changed my program twice for me. Very accommodating! We started our holiday in the north (Sapa)of Vietnam and travelled down to HCMC. The tour was fantastic, Tommy's arrangements were to the"T". I will always use them if I have to visit the area again and recommend them to one and all. Thank you once again Mr.Tommy and the Impress Team. Sulaiman Pochee South Africa

Tour of Vietnam

Impress travel were amazing. Did my bookings with Daniel for our tour of Vietnam and I must say Daniel was very professional and prompt with his services. All the arrangement, plans, pick-up & drop-off services, hotels, vehicles, sightseeing tours and guides were spot on and excellent. Did 4 nights Hanoi, 1 night Hà Long Bay cruise, 3 nights Hoian, 4 nights Saigon and 1 night in Can Tho. It was totally awesome. Every part of the journey was superbly arranged and planned. I will highly recommend Impress Travel for anyone interested in visiting Vietnam. Very organized and reliable!

So glad I found Impress Travel

At first, I was just planning a trip to Hanoi, Halong Bay, and Ninh Binh for my small family. Some close friends heard about our plans and wanted to join the trip. Eventually the group grew to be 7 families, with 25 adults and children of varying interests and expectations.  While I was excited at the prospect of touring Vietnam with good friends, I felt anxiously responsible to ascertain that everything must be well organized and everyone satisfied. This is why I am so very, very glad to have found Impress Travel. Mr. Mark responded quickly to all my inquiries, customized a wonderful trip according to the group's preferences, tirelessly worked out every detail for our 7-day trip, all at a reasonable price. Our guide, Trung, is knowledgeable, helpful, quick to respond to any need, and well-loved by everyone in the group. All my friends found this a marvelous trip, filled with beautiful memories, very much to my delight and relief!

Accommodations were good especially Thang Long Espana Hotel (the Hotel Management automated upgraded us to VIP rooms. Is really unexpected). Overalled tours n places visited very well but only local guides r not good organizing the itineraries. Especially at Sapa Lao Cai and Cat Cat Villages walking tours push to the same day about 8hours for 7km (which is on 1st&2nd days arrival) so tiring. Lunch not good enough 4 so many hours of walking. In Danang Bana Hill the local guide shd arrange 2 visit Bana Hill 1st n not last coz' spend a short time n not nice photos taken due to rain (went in morning time no rain). Overall tours, hotels, transportation, prices are strongly recommended. Especially Daniel Dang Impress Travel for welcoming and bye-bye wishes. 5days Hanoi-Tam Coc-Ninh Binh-Halong Bay

We are family of 6 from Singapore and Malaysia joining Hanoi Impress Travel on 30 October-04 November 2019. We are really impressed with the company and tour guides with their professionalism and well organised arrangement. Lily is our guide for Hanoi, Tam Coc and Ninh Binh. She is excellent and very informative. She even taking care of us until late night. We walk us from Old Quarters to the hotel and brought us to try the famous road side foods. She even helped us to pay for our order to avoid overcharge by the stall. Another guide, David BK (Swan Cruise) brought us to Halong Bay cruise. He is excellent and humorous. He handles everything throughout the trip. He served meals for guests on the cruise, organised happy hour, guiding us for Kayaking, teaching Taiji and cooking class on cruise. The cruise ship is ok and the hotel in Hanoi-Adamas Hotel is small but new and clean with reasonable ok breakfast. Anyway thank you for the wonderful arrangement.

Professional and well organized

We booked a 8 day private tour package for 9 persons for Northern and Central Vietnam . We experienced great and very professional service from the Impress travel team. Tommy was very easy to contact and accommodated our requests. All the tour guides were very good, spoke good English, friendly and patient. All the vehicles were very clean , spacious enough for our group of 6 adults and 3 children. The drivers were extremely safe and ontime. Meals were served in clean restaurants. Excellent, Polite and Helpful Team

Impress Travels has been very helpful in making our vietnam travel amazing. We were a bunch of 7 friends wanting to go on a budget trip covering most locations. Hence, this subjected to a lot of changes during our discussion with the tour guide Daniel. However, he has been patient enough in hearing out our needs - be it itienary , hotel bookings or even the mode of payment.

They really understand your needs. And needless to say our experience was amazing. All of this support and help has really made our vietnam trip the most memorable as far ❤️

5D/4N Hanoi-Ninh Binh- Halong Bay

I was searching for a reliable travel agent and come across Impress Travel and the many reviews of them. I booked 5D/4N, Hanoi-Trang An-Halong Bay private trip for a party of 6. I communicated with Mr Daniel Dang throughout the time until the day we arrived. Mr Daniel is very patient, helpful, and accommodating to our requirements despite many changes made to the itinerary. The price is very reasonable unlike other travel agents. Our tour guide, Lily was very friendly and efficientknowledgeable and speak good English. Highly recommend “Trang An Boat Tour”. The caves was spectacular and beautifully. 2D/1N Halong Bay – Swan Cruise was awesome with amazing view of the cave. Our guide Mr David was hilarious, helpful, accommodating, and everything was well organized. Beside the normal activities of kayaking, swimming, Tai Chi, culinary lesson, we are indeed very very fortunate to have the chance to celebrate the “Mooncake Festival” while cruising and admiring the full moon. Spread of mooncake, dessert, sweet snack, fruits, cocktail, beer and mini dragon dance complete the celebration. Tourists from all over the world party all night long.

Although we paid for a 3-star package, the hotel (Thang Long Espana Hotel), meals and transport provided were also above average. Our gang have a very enjoyable and memorable trip in Hanoi. Impress Travel really impressed us with their service and will engage their service in future. P/S:- Don’t worry, Impress Travel CAN be trusted.

16 days Private Tour

Hanoi – Duong Lam - Halong Bay – Hue – Danang – Hoi An – Ho Chi Minh city – Mekong Delta – Cai Be – Vinh Long – Can Tho – Phu Quoc Island - Ho Chi Minh city. It is worth talking about details, say what you want to see, watch the hotels, indicate which rooms you want, the office will organize everything for you. I highly recommend! The whole trip was arranged with the active help of Mr. Daniel Dang.

Our 3 week tour of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos was excellent

Thanks to Mr Tommy and staff for putting together an active and interesting tour in all 3 countries. In every city or town we had we met by very nice, friendly and knowledgeable guides. We went in June which was HOT HOT HOT and were always so happy to have an air conditioned vehicle with cold water waiting for us. We traveled by planes, trains, automobiles and boats and all were fabulously coordinated by Mr Tommy without fail. The selection of sites helped us enjoy so many aspects of all 3 countries!

Vietnam - Getting to know the Mekong Delta

Although it’s just a couple of hours by boat or car from Ho Chi Minh City, life in the Mekong Delta often seems a thousand miles from that bustling modern metropolis. Things here tend to move at a more sedate pace, and the Delta's friendly residents usually lead a far more traditional existence than their high flying city neighbours.

Known by Vietnamese as the 'Nine Dragons', the nine major waterways of the Mekong River's delta region extend all the way from the Cambodian border to the South China Sea. Outside the Delta’s main cities - Can Tho, Chau Doc, Vinh Long and My Tho - most people choose to build their homes on stilts along the many riverways that meander through the fertile lowlands.

Inaccessible as such a landscape might seem, the Delta is actually one of the most densely populated areas in Vietnam. Characterised as laid-back and welcoming, its people intensively farm as much of the region’s fertile land as possible. As you travel, you'll be surrounded by orchards, sugarcane plantations, rice paddies, fish and flower farms jostling for space amongst bird sanctuaries and National Parks.

What to do in the Mekong Delta

One of the Delta’s most enchanting - and often surreal - characteristics are the floating markets that can be found throughout the major waterways. You may have to get up early to see them at their best, but they’re so emblematic of Southern Vietnam, and a wonderful, lively experience. It would be a shame to miss them for the sake of a lie-in!

Despite all the water, the Mekong Delta actually has very convenient roads and tracks, easily explored by bike, motorbike or bus. The cities and villages are just as fascinating as the waterways.

Chau Doc, south Vietnam’s gateway to Cambodia, is an especially approachable Delta town, with friendly residents, many of whom speak some English.

Nearby Sam Mountain, although not very mountainous, offers a panoramic view over the Delta that’s hard to match elsewhere in the lowlands.

Spend a day or two aboard a traditional Delta riverboat, enjoying the local produce and witnessing daily life on the water.
