Welcome to the launching ceremony of the 25th Miss Tourism International 2022.

It is indeed my honour and privilege to be blessed with the opportunity to act as the OC for this meaningful, international event that is to be held in my homeland, Kuching.

The 25th Anniversary, or the Silver Jubilee of Miss Tourism International, indicates Miss Tourism International’s strong and durable foundation—a remarkable milestone that validates the hard work and persistency of the man who established Miss Tourism International and that is none other than our respected Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi; a man that successfully created a platform for woman with REAL dreams.

I am deeply moved and driven by Tan Sri’s dedication for he has been crafting this unique platform that empowers women to advocate for the value of Friendship and Culture through Tourism.

Through this platform, women with not only beauty but wisdom and friendliness can no doubt present themselves and lead internationally through a series of sustainable activities subsequently introduced over the past 25 years.

This year, we aim to introduce a range of engaging and thrilling activities by riding upon the rich heritage Sarawak is well-known for, by focusing on People, Prosperity, and Partnership, with a touch of digitalization to bring the world to Sarawak. Several remarkable activities will be initiated consequently throughout the year as we count down to our Grand Finale in November. A pre-event and post-event line up that is going to bring sustainable development to the world as a whole.

It was honestly beyond my expectation to be entrusted with this honour to organize this event as it was merely through a casual phone call between Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi and I that marked the start of our journey of bringing the world to Sarawak. I can still remember Tan Sri said, “Esther, you may want to consider leading to organize this event in Kuching”, I responded, “why not?”. A series of deep thought and conversation followed, and official agreements were signed on the 11th days after our conversation. The decision was reached on the basis that Miss Tourism International theme is coherent to YAST Group’s approach, where we invest for prosperity, develop for sustainability, and serve for humanity.

I told Tan Sri, we are ready for this special event, as we are fully prepared with the funding and resources to make it one of the grandest events in Kuching, Sarawak.

Not only that, this is also one of my good friends’ brand and event, hence, bringing this prestigious event back to Kuching, Sarawak, I believe, would mean a lot to this amazing friend of mine.

As Anak Sarawak I will strive to make this event a memorable and impactful one as I am confident that this event will not only be able to benefit the participating delegates, but this event will set forth a ripple effect which is capable of transferring the benefits from one to another and achieving an all-rounded and long-lasting impact that shall persist even after the end of Miss Tourism International 2022.

To all the merchants, service providers and related stakeholders, this is something we can do to restore life and the vibrant energy back into our economy, tourism sector and commercial industry especially after the pandemic.

To all Sarawakians, this is once again an opportunity to welcome the world to our rich heritage and cultural resources that we, as anak Sarawak could, can and will forever be proud of.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Tan Sri for entrusting me as the Organising Chairlady. Thank you Tan Sri for your trust in me.

STB Hosts Luncheon for Miss Tourism International 2022 Contestants

KUCHING, 16th November 2022 – Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) today welcomed 40 international beauty queens participating in the 25th Miss Tourism International 2022 World Final at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV).

During a brief luncheon, the beauty queens got to taste a variety of Sarawak traditional cuisine such as ayam pansuh, pounded tapioca leaves and fish stewed in terung assam (Dayak eggplant). They later visited all the traditional houses at SCV before being entertained with a cultural performance.

Miss Uganda, Sydney Nabulya Kavuma, expressed her admiration of Sarawak hospitality by the locals who she said treated her like their own, making her feel very much at home.

“The (Sarawak) hospitality is at its best, the view is so magnificent and the river cruise was unbelievable, so I invite everyone to come and experience Sarawak because there is so much more to discover,” she added.

The 25th Miss Tourism International World Final 2022 is currently ongoing until 27th November 2022 and the highlight of the event is the ‘Coronation Night’ on November 25th 2022.

Themed “Promoting Tourism, Culture and Friendship”, the pageant gathers delegates from 40 countries and engaged in promotional visits to many tourist attractions around Kuching, Bau and Lundu.

KUCHING: The Miss Tourism International 2022 World Final, which will be held here in November, will bring beauty queens and cats together in an event to boost tourism.

The pageant's organising chairman Esther Law said the Cats Around the World festival and expo aimed to attract visitors, particularly cat lovers, to the state capital.

"Why are we promoting Kuching with cats? It is because the cat, or 'kucing' in Bahasa Malaysia, is the city's mascot," she said when signing a memorandum of understanding with Farley Group on the event here on Friday (July 22).

Law said the event would showcase portraits of the pageant finalists with cats at Farley Mall here on Nov 18-20.

There will also be cat-themed activities such as educational talks and a colouring contest for children.

"Once all the finalists are announced in October, they will be asked to take a photo of themselves posing with a cat from their country," she said, adding that participants from 60 countries were expected to take part in the pageant.

Sarawak Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting said the ministry supported events such as the Miss Tourism International pageant which would bring in tourists to the state.

"This event will also promote Sarawak's culture and creative industry," he said.

Themed "Bringing the World to Sarawak", the Miss Tourism International World Final will be held from Nov 10 to 27 with a series of pre- and post-events.

The grand final will take place on Nov 25.

Miss Malaysia Tourism 2022 finals to be held in Ipoh

Miss Malaysia Tourism finals will feature the top sixteen contestants representing Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Sabah.

The coronation night of Miss Malaysia Tourism 2022 will take place in Ipoh on September 23, 2022.

MM Hotel, Ipoh, will be the main event venue for the pageant which started on September 16.

The coronation night will see the crowning of three main titles: Miss Malaysia Tourism 2022, Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen of the Year 2022 and Miss Malaysia Tourism Metropolitan 2022.

The top three winners will receive crowns, cash prizes and gifts amounting to RM 40,000. Meanwhile, the subsidiary title winners will walk away with a sash, a cash prize of RM1,000 and a trophy.

The winners also will represent Malaysia in the Miss Tourism International , which will take place in Kuching, Sarawak, later this year.

How Zo Ee won the 2021 edition of Miss Malaysia Tourism, and The Miss Malaysia Tourism Metropolitan 2021 won by Yoong Jia Yi. Meanwhile, Rachel Tee Hsu Xin crowned the Miss Malaysia Tourism Queen of the Year 2021.

Miss Malaysia Tourism 2022 is organised by Adonia Media and supported by Tourism Perak.

Sarawakians aged 18-26, taller than 165cm invited to join Miss Tourism pageant

KUCHING, July 1: Any Sarawakian aged 18 to 26 and a height above 165cm can apply to join the Miss Tourism beauty pageant.

Those interested and can fulfill the requirements are invited to participate in the 2022 Miss Tourism Sarawak Pageant Qualifying Round held here on July 3 from 10am to 3pm.

Thailand’s Suphatra Kliangprom crowned Miss Tourism International 2022/2023

KUCHING (Nov 26): The Miss Tourism International (MTI) World Final 2022/2023 crown went to Thailand’s Suphatra Kliangprom, who beat nine other contestants from the final selection on Friday night.

Some 40 contestants vied for the crown but only 10 countries were selected to the final, comprising of Suphatra, Australia’s Gabriella Oxley, Malaysia’s Phoebe Ong, Singapore’s Crystal Huang, United States’ Alysa Cook, New Zealand’s Abigail Curd, Burundi’s Ndahiro Megane, Venezuela’s Laura Zabaleta, Philippines’ Maria Angelica Pantaliano and Russia’s Raskina Sofia.

Four other titles were also given, namely the Miss Tourism Queen of the Year 2022/2023 International won by Laura (Venezuela); Miss Tourism Metropolitan International 2022/2023 won by Maria (Philippines); Miss Tourism Global 2022/2023 won by Crystal (Singapore) and Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International 2022/2023 won by Alysa (United States).

There were two special awards presented – the Dreamgirl of the Year International won by Abigail (New Zealand) and Miss Southeast Asia Tourism Ambassadress which was won by Malaysia’s Phoebe.

Nine subsidiary titles were also up for grabs – the Best in National Costume won by Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Nga; Best in Talent won by Uganda’s Sydney Navulya Kavuma; Miss Photogenic won by Maria; Miss Charm won by Milana Mosharova from Kazakhstan; Best in Cat’s Portrait won by Raskina; Best in Social Media won by Suphatra;  Miss Nuzezo Glamour won by Crystal; Miss Friendshhip won by Yuka Oyama (Japan) and Miss Popularity won by Park Sea (South Korea).

The international pageant themed ‘Bringing the World to Sarawak’ also showcased world-class performances by entertainers and delegates also took to the catwalk in their respective traditional costumes.

After waiting 28 years, Sarawak was finally given the opportunity to host the Silver Jubilee of Miss Tourism International.

The panel of judges comprised Argenis Angulo (Argentina), Dr Dewi Motik Promono M. Si (Indonesia), Carina Jia (China), Emily Hong Nhung (Vietnam), Datin Sri Jacqueline Ngu (Malaysia), Datuk Dr Lau Pang Heng (Malaysia) and Bjarne Wong (Malaysia).

The 25th Miss Tourism International World Final journey started from Nov 11-27 in Kuching and was an avenue for the beauty queens to promote Sarawak to the rest of the world.

Present at the finale were Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabbar; the ministry’s deputy ministers Datuk Sebastian Ting and Datuk Snowdan Lawan; Snowdan’s wife Datin Melinda Claudia Bucking; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang; Miri mayor Adam Yii; and Miss Tourism International franchise holder and president Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi.

Yast Group was the main organiser of Miss Tourism International World Final while the franchise holder is D’Touch International Sdn Bhd.

The pageant is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, local authorities and other sponsors.

The finale was aired live on social media and Youtube.

KUCHING: The 25th Miss Tourism International 2022 World Final will be held here from Nov 10 to 27.

The 18-day event will be attended by representatives from around 55 countries to promote tourism, culture and friendship.

The Miss Tourism International representatives will participate in a series of events including promotional activities, tourism field trips, charity visits, photography and filming of tourist attractions in Sarawak.

The organising committee paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri to extend an invitation to her to be the guest of honour at the event.

Organising chairperson Esther Law Lee Poh briefed Nancy during the courtesy call about the event and Sarawak being given the honour to host the culmination of the competition.

She said the Coronation Night of the 25th Miss Tourism International 2022 World Final will be held on Nov 25 at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre Kuching with the theme: “Bringing the World to Sarawak”.
