Tension 2013 Tour
This tour took place between September and November 2013 in North America. It was part of the NIN 2013-2014 touring cycle. The opening acts were Autolux , Explosions In The Sky , Godspeed You! Black Emperor , and Gary Numan .
The Los Angeles show of this tour was professionally filmed and was scheduled to be released as a DVD/Blu-ray in Spring 2014. Other shows from later in the touring cycle were filmed with the intention of being added to the package, but the current status of the project is unknown. A 77 minute edit of the footage is currently available to view here .

Stage Set-Up
The production for this leg was very different from the festival dates and was again a collaboration by Rob Sheridan , Roy Bennett and Moment Factory. When this leg was originally announced, Reznor was quoted as saying that it "picks up where Lights in the Sky left off" and that it was "the full-on Nine Inch Nails live experience realized as we never could before." It featured heavy use of "stealth screens", like those from the aforementioned tour, which could be raised and lowered throughout the set and which presented elaborate visuals. A unique lighting element was also added in the form of a number of nine-paneled geometric lighting rigs suspended over the band.
Typical Setlist
- " Copy Of A "
- " 1,000,000 "
- " Terrible Lie "
- " March Of The Pigs "
- " Piggy " or " Reptile "
- " All Time Low "
- " Disappointed "
- " Came Back Haunted "
- " Find My Way "
- " Sanctified "
- " The Frail "
- " The Wretched "
- " The Big Come Down "
- " Survivalism "
- " Running "
- " A Warm Place "
- " Somewhat Damaged "
- " The Hand That Feeds "
- " Head Like A Hole " -Encore-
- " Various Methods Of Escape "
- " Even Deeper "
- " While I'm Still Here "
- " Black Noise "
The setlists for the Tension 2013 tour had more variation on a song-by-song basis than the NIN 2013 Festival Tour and songs could be shuffled around a good bit between nights, so though certain songs are predictable, the order may not be. Examples include:
- " Satellite ," " In Two ," " Into The Void ," and/or " I Would For You " included or replacing songs between "Find My Way" and "Survivalism."
- " In This Twilight ," " The Day The World Went Away ," " I'm Afraid Of Americans ," or " All The Love In The World " sometimes appearing as part of the encore.
- " Burn " sometimes being included after "Wish" and once before "Survivalism."
- " Echoplex " sometimes appearing as part of the encore during the first half of the tour and sparingly earlier in the set thereafter.
- " Only " being included between "Wish" and "The Hand That Feeds."
- For shows that could not bring in the full production, the trio of "Running," "A Warm Place," and "Somewhat Damaged" was typically replaced with "I'm Afraid Of Americans," followed by "Burn" or "Only."
- The two Florida shows had encores with a guest appearance from Gary Numan on "Reptile," followed by a performance of Numan's " We Take Mystery (To Bed) ."
Two shows, the Austin City Limits taping and the second Las Vegas show, featured a re-structured set, opening with "All Time Low" instead of "Copy Of A" and featuring other minor song order tweaks. The performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! was a five song 'mini-concert' and acted as a sort of sampler for the Tension tour and new album. For this reason, "All Time Low" and "Came Back Haunted" are the only two songs that were technically played at every show.

Building 'Tension': An Inside Look at NIN's Massive Arena Tour
If there's one word that sums up a Nine Inch Nails concert, it's "ambitious." The band's shows are famous for their over-the-top visuals, and massive arena performances are where frontman Trent Reznor and art director Rob Sheridan really flex their muscles, pummeling audiences with an audio-visual experience that often feels closer to a big-budget Hollywood movie than a traditional rock concert.
The original plan for the band's most recent "Tension" tour, which wrapped up the end of November, was no exception. But with only weeks to go before the first performance, Reznor decided the elaborate production plans didn't feel right, and threw them out the window.
"I said, 'Fuck it, I gotta do the right thing creatively.'" Reznor told WIRED while backstage at one of the band's final shows in Seattle. But what seemed like an act of professional seppuku improbably turned into one of the most cohesive and unique shows NIN has ever produced.
"[Planning] our tours usually starts with a few key questions," said Reznor. "The first is: What are we trying to say creatively? Is there a mission statement? Is it about immersion? Is there a musical component we're trying to bring to the forefront?"
For NIN's previous tour, 2008's "Lights in the Sky," the band set out to use video like an instrument – an organic part of the overall setlist. With sophisticated sensor and laser arrays, the band recreated a massive grid drum sequencer onscreen, which could then be manipulated by drummer Josh Freese and render live visuals. The tech also allowed Reznor to do things like push through (and vanish behind) walls of white static.
For "Tension," however, finding the right tour approach proved more elusive. Reznor knew he didn't want turn Nine Inch Nails into a nostalgia act – particularly after coming off a self-imposed four-year hiatus – but needed to start planning for the arena tour midway through recording sessions for Hesitation Marks , the first Nine Inch Nails album since 2008. With the album only halfway done, there wasn't even a clear sound, much less a tangible creative statement to base the tour around.

By Joseph Cox
This inevitably led Sheridan and Reznor back to "Lights in the Sky," a tour that still had plenty of unused material and ideas. "It was a pretty workable physical template ... that allowed us to get a lot of different looks across," said Reznor. The decision would come back to haunt him.
By the time Reznor wrapped up a successful summer festival leg, he had a nagging sense that using "Lights in the Sky" 2.0 as the basis for their new tour was playing it too safe – a cop out, even – both artistically and for the fans. Video content didn't match lighting content, and the trademark visual bombast that defined NIN tours of yore didn't fit with the new material, which was not only less overtly aggressive and brooding, but even danceable.
"You're always torn [about] following that spark of creation," said Reznor. "You have to surround it with optimism, but there always comes an editorial moment where you go, was that just a shitty idea? And am I way down a fork in the road that was a wrong turn?"
So with a mere three weeks before the first show, the 48-year-old musician pulled the rug out from everyone, introducing an entirely new setlist, and throwing out most of the spectacle-heavy production template already in place. Visual gimmicks were shed, lighting was reconfigured, and the pacing of the show was dramatically altered.
"Tension" turned out to be the perfect name for the 34-city tour, which started in late September in St. Paul, Minnesota and ended on November 25 in Calgary. As anyone who attended one of the shows can attest, there was still a healthy dose of the trademark NIN techno-wizardry and visual bravado on display. But this time around fans were also treated to an experience defined something that's typically not a part of the NIN concert lexicon: restraint.
After discarding the interactive sensors, the "Tension" shows centered around two transparent LED screens that were raised and lowered throughout the show, as well as one fixed (non-transparent) high-definition V9 screen (.pdf) in the back of the band. All told, the production comprised 60 tons of rigging, including 14 MagicPanel lighting pods , and 7.5 tons of speakers ( L-Acoustics K1 rigs ) on either side of the stage. It was an architecture that was both flexible and perfectly suited to ambient soundscapes and aggressive industrial rock. From one song to another, the stage morphed dramatically from simple muted color palettes to explosions of light.
While most of the video and lighting was synced up to time code – which also allowed Reznor to constantly switch up setlists from night to night – there was still some on-the-fly interactivity at. During the song "Satellite," Sheridan grabbed an IR camera rig and panned around the stage. The effect, which was immediately broadcast on the massive screen in back of the band, ranged from abstract as a bunch of dots whizzing across the display, to Tron -like representations of individual band member faces.
In the end, the tour morphed from what felt like an embarrassing wrong turn into something Reznor, Sheridan, and everyone else involved felt immensely proud of. Fan and critical response was overwhelmingly positive throughout, and the band is now releasing an official concert film (on Blu-ray/DVD/digital) of the Los Angeles Staples Center show this spring.
"[The tour] found its own identity," a smiling Reznor said shortly before going onstage in Seattle. "It's not everything we can do in the first minute of the first song, and then just doing that for two hours. It under-utilizes a lot of what we built, which gives us some peaks and valleys and ... tension, if you will."

Nine Inch Nails Unveil New Touring Lineup
By RJ Cubarrubia
RJ Cubarrubia
Trent Reznor’s revamped Nine Inch Nails lost bassist Eric Avery and guitarist Adrian Belew earlier this year . So with the “ Tension 2013 ” tour launching this Saturday in St. Paul, Minnesota, Reznor has unveiled a new lineup. Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Robin Finck, Lisa Fischer, Sharlotte Gibson, Pino Palladino and Ilan Rubin will join the Nine Inch Nails mastermind as he heads out behind his latest album, Hesitation Marks .
Cortini is no stranger to Reznor and Nine Inch Nails, having toured with the band from 2005 to 2008. The keyboardist leads the band SONOIO and also records as blindoldfreak. Fellow keyboardist Eustis is the co-founder of the electronic duo Telefon Tel Aviv and he’s also worked with Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan in Puscifer.

The new lineup will also benefit from two veteran vocalists. Fischer, who won a Grammy in the early Nineties with her single “How Can I Ease the Pain,” has sung backup for Tina Turner and Luther Vandross . She’s also been a regular onstage with the Rolling Stones , recently appearing on their “50 and Counting” anniversary tour. Gibson has served as a backup singer on American Idol and has also sung on the show Duets .

Reznor has found some solid replacements for Avery and Belew, as well. Bassist Palladino was famously chosen by the Who to replace John Entwistle on tour and he also plays with the John Mayer Trio and has recorded with Eric Clapton , Jeff Beck , D’Angelo , Adele and more. Guitarist Finck joined Nine Inch Nails in May , returning to the band after playing with Reznor’s crew for their 2009 pre-hiatus tour. The longtime NIN collaborator goes way back Reznor, working with the group since 1994. Drummer Rubin is a fresher face for NIN, contributing to Hesitation Marks ; he’s played with Lostprophets and Tom DeLonge’s Angels and Airwaves, and also played drums on Paramore’s latest album, Paramore .
After the St. Paul show, Nine Inch Nails’ “Tension 2013” will hit Kansas City, Missouri, on September 30th and run until the end of November, wrapping up November 25th in Calgary, Alberta.

Aggression Unleashed, and Moderated Too, in Pumped-Up Touring Return
By Ben Ratliff
- Oct. 16, 2013
Trent Reznor’s recent record with Nine Inch Nails , “Hesitation Marks,” represents a self-possessed next move for a band whose old meanings have been displaced, if not entirely eclipsed. The currents that it rose from in the late ’80s — harsh and jabbering industrial music, creep-out cinema, roaring psychosexual anger — long ago became normalized; as elements of art, those things live and die on immediate response and don’t get the kind the group desires anymore, especially from fans in their 40s.
So among the first things you notice about “Hesitation Marks” (Columbia) are its dynamic shifts, but they’re not meant to be scary; they don’t throw you backward. It’s all more evened-out and enveloping, music to live with and contemplate and dance to.
At Barclays Center on Monday night, Mr. Reznor had it both ways. (This is the first time Nine Inch Nails has been on the road since 2009, and it’s called the “Tension” tour: it plays opposites of sound and temperament against each other.) He performed far more of the new record than you expect from someone with a catalog as deep as his: 8 of its 14 tracks. And he let the new material do its work, with patience and temperance.
Still, he uses the old cathartic anger. Mr. Reznor is 48, and, broad-chested and muscled up in a sleeveless T-shirt, he looked more like a shot-putter than a rock star. (Early in the set, after “March of the Pigs,” he heaved his guitar toward the back of the stage; it seemed like a toy.) He spoke little to the crowd and seemed determined to end up atop a new set of expectations.
With his current touring band Mr. Reznor has found a median sound for the music of his whole career — the songs stretched back to “Head Like a Hole,” from 1989 — by means of Ilan Rubin’s hard and relentless drumming; a double-guitar attack on songs like the thrashing “Wish” (“Don’t think you’re having all the fun,” Mr. Reznor yelled. “You know me, I hate everyone”); and two backup singers: Lisa Fischer, who tours with the Rolling Stones, and Sharlotte Gibson, adding a classic-rock dimension to songs like “Came Back Haunted.” The bassist Pino Palladino, who can be a master of subtlety, is in the band too, though his accents of tone and rhythm were hard to hear.
There were elongated electro-disco sections, invoking Joy Division or even Giorgio Moroder, and a baritone saxophone solo by Josh Eustis toward the end, in “While I’m Still Here.”
An atmosphere was being built, with each song as a room. (So too, in a different way, with the short opening set by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, with drones and staggered crescendos.) And there was a spectacular light show for it, detailed and serious; for stretches of the concert Mr. Reznor and his band played behind curtains of LED lights that rendered the musicians digitized, colorized, part of a larger system.
Nine Inch Nails appears on Friday at the Verizon Theater in Washington; nin.com.

Four years after declaring that Nine Inch Nails should “disappear for a while,” group mastermind Trent Reznor is reviving his most successful industrial rock project for an extended tour that will kick off this summer. Although no dates have been revealed, sources tell Billboard that one of the reunited group’s appearances will be at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

A new statement from Reznor details the new collective that will form NIN as well as the upcoming tour, which will spill into next year. Here is the full statement (via Pitchfork ):

NOTE FROM TRENT :
Nine Inch Nails are touring this year.
I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked – which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.
The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014.

Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.
Multi-instrumentalist Cortini and drummer Rubin have previously performed with NIN, while Jane’s Addiction’s Avery, King Crimson’s Belew and Telefon Tel Aviv’s Josh Eustis are the new “friends” that Reznor mentions in his statement. Reznor, of course, has been the only constant member of Nine Inch Nails since forming the project in 1988.
Nine Inch Nails’ hiatus officially began after the group performed its final show together in Sept. 2009. Since then, Reznor has taken home a Golden Globe and Academy Award for his original score for 2010’s “The Social Network,” composed with his creative partner Atticus Ross. Reznor and Ross collaborated again on the score for David Fincher’s 2011 adaptation of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
Although Reznor’s new statement does not allude to a new NIN album, Reznor told Billboard last year that he was writing new songs for his long-running project, in spite of its dormancy. “My voice as a songwriter feels like it needs to speak up or at least work out a little bit to not atrophy,” he said at the time. “I think I have something to say that feels unique to who I am right now, and that’s when it tells me it’s time to do something.”
Before the Nine Inch Nails reunion takes place, Reznor will release “Welcome oblivion,” the debut LP from his side project How To Destroy Angels, on Mar. 5 through Columbia Records. The group, which also includes Reznor’s wife Mariqueen Maandig, Rob Sheridan and Ross, will make its live debut at the 2013 Coachella fest on Apr. 12, and has plotted tour dates through the end of April. Nine Inch Nails, meanwhile, last performed at Lollapalooza in 2008, alongside artists like Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine and Kanye West.

NIN Live Archive - Year in Review: 2013-14 Touring Cycle
The best recordings from the last year of touring.
After the NIN/Soundgarden tour, I intended to take a decent break from the archive and focus on other interests for a bit. After the overwhelming response of all the tapers in the last year who have contacted me and sent me in tapes/recorded the recent shows, it's time to take a slight break! But seriously, thank you for everyone who taped. The response was amazing and I know that there are thousands of people out there who have enjoyed the recordings that are up on the archive that they were able to grab here and relive the experience. Of course this break does not mean that I won't answer tweets/emails. If you have recordings you'd like to share with the archive you can always tweet me on twitter @ninlive , or email me ! Just the updates won't be as rapid as they were during the tour. This article is to highlight the last year of touring for Nine Inch Nails, and also How To Destroy Angels from early 2013. Links below, are what I believe are essential recordings from the past year (all subjective) of touring. Have I listened to every tape from the last year? Of course not. In running this archive, I have almost 1,000 sources to go through!
As many NIN fans can agree, there is something about Nine Inch Nails live that is special. Everyone can describe it differently. Some people like the agressiveness of the music in a live setting, the interactive light show that is always cutting edge, the perfection of the performance, the list can go on. But it's why so many get hooked and need to see them perform more than once in a tour. Whatever the reason, this list is to show it off. I was so excited when I heard NIN would be touring again back in February 2013 that would also include an album (Hesitation Marks). But before that even begun, Trent's side project, How To Destroy Angels with his right hand man in the studio, Atticus Ross, wife, Mariqueen on vocals, art director Rob Sheridan, and NIN/synth master Alessandro Cortini were hitting the road for a few shows around the United States for a mini-tour. This was the first type of touring that any of them had done since 2009. It was new, it was exciting. I was ready to see how the songs from the albums translated to a live setting.
The first HTDA show took place at the Fox Theater in Pomona, CA . I remember waiting and looking at live recording trackers religously hoping someone taped the show. Less than 24 hours after the concert, a good friend of mine, Mixter, uploaded his recording from the show! I had this recording on loop for a good week. The songs sounded even better live. Most notable was "Parasite" with Reznor on the guitar just hammering the notes, and also the rework of "The Space In Between" by Alessandro's, SONOIO persona. With the show being performed at just about 80 minutes, it was a lot of material for a new band with a few EPs and one album. The recording is great as well. Mixter captured the performance well for the first night of the tour. Download: Mixter's 04/10/2013 Pomona, CA, Fox Theater Recording - .Zip File FLAC, 534.1 MB
The Pomona show was basically a warm-up to what was their biggest show they would perform on the mini-tour just a few days later, Coachella . Just like when NIN performed at Coachella in 2005, this was the first big show for the band since coming off their hiatus. The show was also live streamed on YouTube for the world to see. Something that was not around much, or available, for festivals to do with ease at is it is nowadays. It was a chance for many to see the very well crafted stage setup that HTDA would be touring with during the mini-tour. The surgical tubing that was in front of the band that gives a certain barrier between crowd and musician.. The YouTube live stream was captured in all its HD glory by some nice users over on ETS, as well as ripping the soundboard audio from the stream. This is also the same recording that Trent linked from this very site during his reddit Ask Me Anything interview in December 2013 ! After the HTDA tour, there were a few months off before NIN would hit the road. The lineup was initially going to be different. With the addition of Eric Avery, and Adrian Belew, there was certainly a buzz around this new lineup of the band that included Ilan Rubin and Alessandro Cortini. But, after a few weeks of rehearsals, both new members had left the band for reasons unknown. This brought back guitarist, Robin Finck and Telefon Tel Aviv's, Josh Eustis. I'll fast forward a bit to during the Festival 2013 run of shows. I received an email from someone who said they had a soundboard copy of rehearsal audio. Thinking it was a joke, I half-heartedly replied. But when I received a message back with a sample.. I needed it! These rehearsals were done some time in June when NIN was rehearsing for the festival run of shows. It was released by someone on the inside, and all of this came out the time that 'Hesitation Marks' was being leaked as well... When it rains, it pours. BUT, without a doubt, this is a must for any NIN fan. Over two hours of raw soundboard audio and although rehearsals, you would think they'd already had 100 shows under their belt! Obviously, the first NIN show at Fuji Rock Festival was everyone was anticipating most in 2013. It would be almost 4 years since the last Nine Inch Nails show at The Wiltern in 2009. What would be played? New songs? A bunch of questions that needed to be answered. Thankfully, the show was streamed online, but regionally blocked to Japan. Many NIN fans sought out proxies in order to watch from their native countries. Trent walks out to a deserted stage with just a light and MIDI controller to start the first performance of "Copy of A." One by one the members of NIN came out in a Kraftwerk-like setup... NIN was finally back, and it was good. The new songs were interesting, different from what was heard on previous albums. Fresh. But the intensity of the performance was still there, and the execution of the songs. Fans who captured the performance had numerous errors/glitches in their captures to where it was not presentable. Until C. Morris contacted me to say he captures the show perfect from start to finish. We got the capture and posted it to RITC immediately, the torrent was downloaded thousands of times. In 720p and the soundboard audio mix is fantastic. Great way to kick off the 2013 festival run. There were a bunch of live streams throughout the Festival Summer Tour, having their first performance in the states in Chicago at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands in California before heading over to Europe for a bunch of dates there as well. NIN performed inbetween some acts that you would necesarily put together... Ever. Leaving for some funny banter from Trent (check out the beginning of Lowlands Fest set below). Almost all of the live streams were fantastic, and in HD. Michael Patterson did a great job mixing the audio for many (if not all) the live streams. The festival round of shows ended at Made In America Festival in Philadelphia the day after 'Hesitation Marks' was released.
NIN performed a few small club shows during the festival run, and right after. One show at Scala in London, and the other as a release party for the new album in Los Angeles at Troubadour. Both shows with less than 500 people in attendance and from the video clips from both shows, looked intense! The setlists were longer, and also had some heavier cuts that did not make the festival setlists. Thankfully there is one recording from the Troubadour show. It might not be the greatest (as it is from a phone) but it's better than nothing. Doesn't get much better seeing NIN in a club setting! Still looking for proper recordings from either show!
The next leg of the tour was the fall arena tour, Tension 2013. As US fans, we are spoiled with the best light show that NIN has to offer. After the Lights in the Sky Tour, where NIN took live performances to the next level with new lighting techniques and other cool gadgets (thanks to Moment Factory and the art direction of Sheridan) it was going to be very interesting to see what they had up their sleeves for this leg of the tour. Some late additions to the lineup were backup singers Lisa Fischer and Sharlotte Gibson, and bassist Pino Palladino. All of them adding another dynamic to the music. It was something fresh and new that NIN had never done before. For one, I would say that the backup singers were my favorite part of this leg of the tour. They added more depth to the songs and obviously those higher notes! The setlists had something for everyone, each album had a song or two played from it. Many of the songs off 'Hesitations Marks' were performed on this tour. As the tour went on, it seemed that more songs were added into the set after visuals were created for the songs. This could be true for "Big Come Down," "In Two," and "Sanctified." Just to name a few that I can think of. Which you could also see the sets get slightly longer. There were many great audience recordings from this tour. The most notable ones were once the band started to get out west. In San Antonio, NIN performed "All The Love In The World" for the first time live in front of an audience (as it was rehearsed for the With_Teeth Tour). NIN also performed on PBS' Austin City Limits TV special, we have a full audience recording from the show on the archive. ACL only broadcasts an hour special, so some of the songs were omitted. The show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles was filmed by the band that will be used in the upcoming film release that will include other shows from the 2014 tour as well. It was the longest set of the tour at about 135 minutes. The audience recording done by BLG is a fantastic recording of this show. A few days after the LA show NIN performed two sold out shows at The Joint in Las Vegas. The full lighting rigs could not be installed at these shows due to the smaller stage, so these setlists varied slightly from the standard run of sets during the tour. Both nights had a nice variation of songs that were not played a lot during the tour. "All Time Low" also opened up the 2nd night in Vegas. Tapeworm48 recorded both shows and these are my favorite recordings from the tour. The first shows of 2014 started off in Tokyo at Studio Coast for three sold out nights. The band lineup had been altered a bit since Tension 2013, only being a four piece band with TR, Robin Finck, Illan Rubin and Alessandro Cortini. Alessandro Cortini opened up the shows with a 20 minute set and they went straight into the set from there. These shows had some of the best setlists of the year, as all three shows were different. The first night saw the debut of the main title track, "Hand Covers Bruise" from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score of 'The Social Network.' As well as the first time "Beside You In Time" has been played since 2006. The second night was a very heavy set, which was my favorite setlist of the whole year. "Ghosts 31" was performed for the first time since 2008 at this show, but was most notable was Mariqueen coming out for the encore to perform two How To Destroy Angels songs. The third night was more of an electronic set, performing 'Me, I'm Not,' 'The Warning,' and 'The Great Destroyer' at this show. This has not been done since Red Rocks 2008. All three shows were recorded in fantastic quality by some bootleg companies out in Japan. Thankfully, I was able to liberate the recordings thanks to a few Japanese fans. Any one of these recordings below are essential pickups for any fan. During the months of March and April, NIN toured around Australia with Queens of the Stone Age and then to South America to do a bunch of festival shows to some great crowds. For the tour in Australia with QOTSA, they would decide who would perform first with a coin flip. The tour was pretty even as to whom opened/closed. I was happy to see that a few tapes came about from this tour. Mostly to Matt G. Who taped a handful of shows for the first time. Many of the tapes are great. He has been compiling all the songs that were performed on this leg of the tour for an 'Australian 2014' DVD. Look out for that in the coming months, should be tenatively out in December. I hope to bring you more on it. The run of shows in South America had a few good live streams. But a few of them had cuts or dropouts and I am still waiting to put up propers captures/rips of the shows. The Vive Latino show was streamed on their Coca-Cola Radio app and I think it sounds the best out of them all. Europe 2014 brought some new surprises for this leg of the tour. "Eraser" was brought back into the setlist. First time it had been performed since 2009. As well as a new intro mashup with "The Downward Spiral" and "The New Flesh." Since it was a headlining tour, the sets were just over 100 minutes for each show. There were a bunch of great recordings from the leg of the tour. Most notable is Ian Macdonald's recording from Amsterdam. Ian is notorious for making fantastic tapes, and this was is no exception. The other notable recordings from this leg of the tour were Stefler's recording from Berlin, Alysha's from Zurich and Mr. Ruin's from Vienna. The show in Vienna was recorded by the NIN camp, which will be added together with the Tension 2013 footage for release. With about a months break, NIN embarked on their final run of shows throughout North America with Soundgarden. Both bands having arguably their best albums turn 20 this year (NIN's 'The Downward Spiral' and Soundgarden's 'Superunknown') it was ironic after both albums released on the same day and both bands battling for the #1 spot in the charts 20 years ago. NIN brought back the Festival 2013 stage setup for this tour. Trent had said that he was very proud of the stage design that they had for that leg of the tour and with only having two shows in North America last year. This was a great way to present it to everyone. Each band got about 90 minutes per set. NIN had two different setlists for this tour. One labeled by the crew as "Fuji" as it was similar to the Fuji Rock Festival setlist last July, and the "Assault" setlist that was full of heavy hitter songs. That setlist was rarer to see on the tour as well as "The Frail - The Wretched." Which was only played a few times. Clarkston was the only show where "The Warning" was performned on the US tour. The Woodlands show at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion was filmed by the NIN crew as well and will hopefully be included in the release with the other two recorded shows earlier in the tour cycle. NIN finished the tour off on the west coast, where once again we were spoiled by the west coast crew with their fantastic audience recordings for the Cali shows. NIN then went up the cost to Portland and Seattle to close out the tour and will now be on break for the indefinite future. I hope that you enjoyed this article. This highlights just some of the recordings that were done while on this tour. It was hard to choose the ones that I like the most from the past year of NIN touring, as there were so many. But this should give you a few hundred hours of new shows to listen to if you were hesitant to grab any. With this break, be sure to check out the other 20+ years, and 900 audio sources that are available here on the archive. Again, I would like to take this time to thank all the tapers that recorded and sent in their recordings to be hosted and archived here at nin live. Also to NIN for once again putting on the greatest performances I have ever witnessed.
If you have a recording that you would like to upload to the archive, or have a tape that is not on the archive at the moment and would like to get it to me, please email me or tweet me @ninlive . You can upload the audio/video recording to the FTP to make it easy. Or send me the tapes via snail mail for me to properly transfer digitally. Thanks for all your support over the years and hope that we can do another year in review in the near future!
Nine Inch Nails announces revamped lineup, 2013 tour

Nine Inch Nails may have sailed off on its “Wave Goodbye” tour just four years ago, but Trent Reznor and Co. are ready to say hello again.
The singer-producer announced today in a statement (pasted in full below) that he’s re-tooled the core lineup of Nine Inch Nails to include Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery, Josh Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv and, most intriguingly, King Crimson’s Adrian Belew, alongside longtime collaborators Alessandro Cortini and Ilan Rubin.
As electronics-saturated supergroups with an ear for menace and dystopia go, this lineup seems like a winner for NIN.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Oscars 2013
The statement announced a full arena tour to come this fall and extend into 2014. No dates or locations yet, though Reznor promises, “Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.”
Meanwhile, Reznor isn’t waiting that long to take the stage at a major venue. His How to Destroy Angels Project with his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, composer Atticus Ross and designer Rob Sheridan, will make its proper live debut at April’s Coachella.
The band also will release its debut album, “Welcome Oblivion,” on March 5 via Columbia. It comes after Reznor’s well-received soundtracks with Atticus Ross for “The Social Network” and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”
NOTE FROM TRENT:
Nine Inch Nails are touring this year.
I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked -- which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.

Nine Inch Nails Confirm First 2013 Tour Dates
There were a lot of Nine Inch Nails fans losing their minds earlier this week when it was revealed that the Trent Reznor -led band was being resurrected this year. Now we've got the first two confirmed performances from the reactivated and reconfigured Nine Inch Nails lineup.
Consequence of Sound reports that the band will play the Fuji Rock Festival at Niigata Prefecture, Japan the weekend of July 26-28. While the festival lineup has yet to be revealed, Bjork is also expected to take part. Fans can stay updated on the Fuji Rock Festival's lineup additions and ticketing details by checking here .
The other festival appearance on Nine Inch Nails' schedule is the Rock 'n' Heim festival in Hockenheim, Germany. The music weekend will take place Aug. 16-18, with the band playing alongside System of a Down , Volbeat , Deftones , Tenacious D , Biffy Clyro and Enter Shikari among others. Festival updates on Rock 'n' Heim can be found here .
As revealed earlier this week, the reconfigured Nine Inch Nails lineup will feature Reznor and returning instrumentalist Alessandro Cortini and drummer Ilan Rubin alongside former Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery, King Crimson's Adrian Belew and Puscifer 's Josh Eustis.

Pearl Jam Debut Nine Inch Nails' ‘Hurt' For Lost Friends In Seattle
Pearl Jam wound down the first North American leg of its Dark Matter tour last night (May 30) at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, a two-night stand marking the band’s first hometown shows since 2018.
Before the first song of the encore, frontman Eddie Vedder acknowledged the deeply felt absence of friends and family in the city he’s called home since 1990, and which has endured the early deaths of musicians such as Mother Love Bone’s Andrew Wood, Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley and Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell.
“There’s no other guest list as big as the one as we have when we’re in Seattle,” he said. “San Diego, Chicago.. nope. Seattle ( laughs ). To be honest, I wish it were longer. There are certain names that I so deeply wish were on the guest list tonight, but we lost them too early and in ways we could never imagine. Damnit if I can’t stop thinking about them, but that’s a good thing too, I guess.”
He went on to perform a solo acoustic cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” in the style of Johnny Cash — a first at a Pearl Jam show. The artist has played the song five prior times at his solo concerts.
Towards the end of the set, Vedder seemed to hint at the possibility of Pearl Jam playing more regular shows in Seattle — a proposition which would surely delight thousands of local fans.
“Goddamnit, we might not play again in Seattle for awhile,” he said. “[Arena staff] did say that we can play anytime we want, and they’ve made it pretty nice for us. This could be something maybe we do more often. Tuesday’s at Climate Pledge, something like that. Thursdays…”
“I’ll see you in the car next to me,” Vedder said as the band began closing song “Setting Sun.” “Thank you for 33-and-a-third years. Imagine that.”
Pearl Jam will be back in action in Europe starting June 22 in Dublin, and will resume stateside performances Aug. 22 in Missoula, Mt. Last night’s show was broadcast live on the band’s Pearl Jam Radio channel 22 with SiriusXM.
