Affectionately named the City of Light and the City of Love, Paris enchants with its stunning boulevards, charming cafes and world-class culinary scene, with the Seine gracefully winding through the city and further enhancing the romantic allure. The artistic haven of Monmartre contributes to the city's heritage and status as a global symbol of fashion, art and culinary excellence, serving as an epitome of sophistication in a destination that seamlessly intertwines history and modernity.

The charming old town paved with cobblestone and lined with half-timbered houses only serves to enhance the medieval charm, providing a fitting backdrop to the city's rich cultural heritage and associations with iconic figures such as Joan of Arc, seamlessly blending historical implication with French provincial charm.

Honfleur, the most picturesque of the Côte Fleurie's seaside towns, is a time-burnished place with a surplus of half-timber houses and cobbled streets that are lined with a stunning selection of stylish boutiques. Much of its Renaissance architecture remains intact—especially around the 17th-century Vieux Bassin harbor, where the water is fronted on one side by two-story stone houses with low, sloping roofs and on the other by tall slate-topped houses with wooden facades. Maritime expeditions (including some of the first voyages to Canada) departed from here; later, Impressionists were inspired to capture it on canvas. But the town as a whole has become increasingly crowded since the Pont de Normandie opened in 1995. Providing a direct link with Upper Normandy, the world's sixth-largest cable-stayed bridge is supported by two concrete pylons taller than the Eiffel Tower and designed to resist winds of 257 kph (160 mph).

Riviera River Cruises Review ~MS Jane Austen~ The Seine, Paris and Normandy

Paris called to me with its iconic sights, outstanding museums, fantastic architecture, and fine French food and wine. No wonder it is one of Europe’s main draws.

When I read the Riviera River Cruises itinerary that starts and ends in Paris, with stops in Normandy, I knew it was for me. I’d visit wondrous destinations in Normandy I’d longed to see:  the Rouen Cathedral, Bayeux Tapestry, and the D-Day landing sites. Plus, I’d get to revisit Monet’s Gardens.

I flew to Paris with my boyfriend, John, and we boarded the Jane Austen around 5 pm. MS Jane Austen, built in 2015, holds a maximum of 140 passengers, an ideal size boat as far as I’m concerned. I much prefer small river cruise boats to mega ocean liners. The other passengers become friends as you run into them during meals and excursions.

riviera travel normandy

If you are wondering about the name, Riviera River Cruises boats are traditionally named after famous authors: Emily Bronte, Thomas Hardy, Oscar Wilde, Geoffrey Chaucer, George Eliot, Lord Byron, William Shakespeare, and William Wordsworth.

We were warmly welcomed into the sparkling lobby, registered, and escorted to our cabin on the upper Diamond Deck. This deck also includes an air-conditioned observation lounge and bar. We found a queen-sized bed, floor to ceiling windows that slide open. There isn’t a balcony area, but you almost feel like you are standing outdoors when you open the sliding doors.

We took a few moments to unpack and settle. One of the significant advantages of cruising is not having to transfer luggage constantly.

Our bathroom was small, as expected, but functional. When you aren’t taking a shower, leaving the doors open gives more room, or it at least feels that way. L’Occitane accessories, a French luxury line, were provided.

A welcome bottle of champagne arrived that we opened immediately. What a lovely way to celebrate the beginning of a cruise.

We were soon ready for dinner, as it had been a long travel day. The main restaurant rests on the mid-deck, below our cabin. It is lined with big windows. Riviera’s policy is open seating, so they won’t assign tables. The restaurant was not busy as many passengers arrived late, so we had a table to ourselves and enjoyed a delicious multi-course meal and wine (included in the drinks package at lunch and dinner.) We noticed the central area is used for breakfast and lunch buffets.

While we were tired enough to go to bed, at 10 pm, the captain would begin our adventure and move the boat closer to the small replica of the statue of Liberty (remember, the N.Y. lady was given to us from France) and the glittering Eiffel Tower in the distance. It’s magical to see the illuminated icon sparkling like a fireworks display.

The following day, we reached the village of Les Andelys, seeing Chateau Galliard on the hillside. The buildings are ruins of Richard the Lionhearted castle built between 1196-1198 (yes, that old!). This Riviera cruise features nine included visits and tours. On this day, Riviera took two groups of guests on an excursion to the site in the afternoon. One group chose to view the ruins from an overlook and then hike to explore them. The second group just overlooked the castle. My group walked downhill and back up, then explored the ruins with superb panoramic views. When ready, we strolled downhill into the charming town with half-timbered buildings. I’d never heard of Les Andelys before this cruise but was charmed.

Later we enjoyed another four-course dinner, always with table linens, silver service, and wine. You may choose from three entrees of the day (one is vegetarian) or pick from the always-available salmon and beef dinners. The dining room staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

We left the dock in Les Andelys early because a sound and light show would be projected onto the façade of Rouen Cathedral at 11pm. Oh dear, another late night! However, don’t miss it if you get the chance. The explosion of vibrant colors and technological mastery mesmerized the audience, who watched in stunned silence. Incredible! What an unexpected bonus and fantastic day.

The next morning, John and I got up early to walk into town so I could photograph the cathedral before the area became crowded with tourists. We returned in time to take Riviera’s guided walking tour of the city, learning about the cathedral’s long history and Joan of Arc. Joan was burned at stake in Rouen after her trial. A modern church stands on the site, architecturally unappealing to me, but once inside, aglow with a beautiful wall of stained glass windows. We lingered at the end of the tour, enjoying a coffee, and shopping.

After lunch, our cruise continued sailing down the Seine towards Caudebec. Many passengers spent time relaxing on the Sun Deck, and gazing at the limestone cliffs and villages along the river. Later in the afternoon, but before cocktail hour, the Riviera Cruise Director, Anette, provided an overview of the next day’s excursion. This is most helpful, along with the maps and detailed descriptions of the sites in the tour packet supplied in each cabin. The package is comprehensive and a lovely souvenir to recall your trip.

The guests were bused to Bayeux the following morning- a two-hour ride. The little town contains another magnificent cathedral, but its calling card is the priceless 950-year-old Bayeux Tapestry. Having done needlework in my younger years, I appreciated the intricate detail and symmetry throughout the 230-foot-long exquisite masterpiece. It tells the story of William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hasting.

Since we would be out all day, Riviera provided bag lunches. I hate to admit it, but the white bread sandwich was not the best- just one thing slice of meat and cheese. They added fruit, a salad, a candy bar, and juice.

The D-Day landing sites came next, and Riviera went out of its way for us Americans. While the other passengers, all Brits, were taken to Arromanches, British battlefield sites, and the new British Memorial, John and I were driven to Pointe du Hoc. Here the U.S. soldiers climbed the steep cliffs while encountering enemy fire. The courage of these young soldiers overwhelms you when you see the bombed-out landscape and base of the German artillery guns. I now much better understand what happened in Normandy.

We moved on to Omaha Beach, another U.S. landing site. The sandy expanse surprised me; it was full of sunbathers and swimmers. A stunning memorial stands on the beach, honoring the critical events that happened along this lovely beach in 1944. Another monument stands in the open town square.

The last stop was the 172-acre American Cemetery, with 9,387 American War Dead graves. The peaceful cemetery with white crosses stretched as far as the eye can see honors the Americans lost in the Normandy battles. It’s an emotionally difficult place to visit, but one that keeps alive the memory of those who fought bravely to defend global freedom. We owe them much. The past three days of the cruise offered exceptional excursions now deeply etched in my memory.

Honfleur, a medieval village with narrow cobblestone alleys and a central rectangular harbor in the middle, provided the next day’s visit. It was market day, so overly crowded for my liking. I’m sure others loved it! But, had it not been a market day, I would have enjoyed photographing the streets of half-timber buildings, churches, and harbor.

For a change, we reserved dinner in the Lido Bistro at the terrace level on the back of the ship. I chose chateaubriand, and the entire meal was fantastic. The Lido serves an early breakfast if you get up early and want food at 6:30 am. They also have an espresso and cappuccino-making machine open 24/7. John was a fan of the espresso.

A stop in Vernon brought us to Monet’s House and Garden named Giverny. His colorful home features a buttery- lemon yellow dining room and a gorgeous blue and white tiled kitchen. Upstairs in the house, we saw the bedrooms and enjoyed the chance to look out the open windows over the gardens. The flower gardens offer many pathways to roam around.

An under-road tunnel leads to the water and lily pond gardens. These were not as colorful as I recalled; perhaps the hot weather was to blame. They are gorgeous anyway but are crowded. You can imagine Monet sitting in his rowboat and painting the enduring scene. Afterward, John walked up to Monet’s grave while I shopped. The gift shop here is extensive and one of the best.

In the afternoon, we explored Vernon on our own. The Old Mill House is a popular site for photographers, and a little castle next door adds to the scene. If only Rapunzel were inside, letting her long hair flow down the castle walls!

Sadly, it was nearing the end of the cruise. We docked in Paris and spent the night. Everyone was taken for a bus tour of the significant Paris sites the following morning. For a break, we stopped at Luxembourg Gardens and saw a few children floating boats on the pond and gardeners at work. This is a popular park for Parisians, but they typically leave the city in August.

The bus tour continued until we came to the Eiffel Tower. Many of the guests decided to stay and explore on their own. John and I walked down to Napoleon’s tomb and enjoyed lunch at an outdoor café. We made a very long walk back to the boat. If I were to suggest, it would be to run a bus to pick up those who stayed– perhaps three hours later.

That evening we were all treated to the most fantastic dinner. I believe it was seven courses, ending with flaming Baked Alaska. I was very impressed with all the meals and the food quality. It was above my expectations, for sure. (FYI: be sure to choose a cheese course for dessert sometime. The cheese is exceptional, and the chutney perfectly tops it off.)

The last morning, John and I left the boat via taxi as we were staying in Paris for two more days. The rest of the passengers were shuttled to the airport or train station.

Captain Ludovic was a real charmer. He’s only 33 years old but has spent his entire life on the water. He was born on a cargo ship. He takes his role very seriously; when I interviewed him, he said, “the thing that most worries him are the other boats. I know what I am doing, but I can’t predict what they will do.”

Cruise director Anette and her assistant Helena were very thorough, calm, and helpful. We didn’t seem to have any problems, but I don’t doubt they could have managed any situation.

One night we enjoyed playing trivia after dinner. In fact, most of the guests onboard joined in. This was a fun way to extend the evening. There is not much entertainment on the cruise if you are expecting that.

I never had time to go to the Emerald Deck for the spa and wellness area. However, John and I did visit the machine room with the chief engineer, who explained the ship’s working. He is very competent and an essential member of the crew.

I would absolutely recommend Riviera River Cruises and sailing with them again. I feel the boat, the staff, and the cruise line offer an authentic travel experience at a reasonable cost.

Thanks to Riviera for sending a packet of travel documents before departure that answered all questions. They provided emergency contact numbers just in case.

Many, many thanks to Riviera River Cruises for a fabulous adventure and AllThingsCruise.com for arranging this lovely cruise.

The Seine Paris and Normandy River Cruise Review

“Embarking on The Seine Paris and Normandy River Cruise was an incredible experience that I won’t soon forget! I had the chance to explore historic locations like Rouen and Bayeux which were both absolutely beautiful and each had their own unique charm. I also very much enjoyed the tour of Paris where I got to visit the Eiffel Tower and the Notre-Dame Cathedral which both left me in awe, as did the other wonderful landmarks. In the cathedral, immortalised by Claude Monet, you can see the tombs of Richard the Lionheart and William the Conqueror’s grandfather over the centuries it  has been built, destroyed by fire, rebuilt, damaged in the Wars of Religion and embellished to create the fantastic Gothic edifice we see today. This afternoon is free to explore maybe visit the Museum of fine art, the Jeanne D’arc exhibition or the Jardin des plantes. Signature experience: Normandy is considered one of France's most famous regions for gastronomy - famous for its cheese, cream and apples. But there's more to their traditional dishes than meets the eye. With an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced produce, the menus here offer an authentic taste of the region. Today, we'll take a bite out of Normandy for ourselves with lunch at a traditional, family-run restaurant that holds true to the heritage of the region and keeps its favourite dishes at the forefront of its cooking. We think it's the perfect way to end walking tour.

Today we take the drive to perhaps the most picturesque spot on the northern French coast – delightful Honfleur. Beautifully preserved, its old harbour, complete with both fishing boats and luxurious pleasure craft, is surrounded by a perfect waterfront of tall, pastel coloured 18th century houses, many of which have been converted to restaurants specialising in seafood. Along the waterfront, watch the talented artists at work, capturing the delightful view for eternity whilst the intricate maze of streets behind are worthy of some exploration. The eaves of the tall, half-timbered buildings almost touch and on the streets below is an abundance of traditional shops selling all sorts of items such as antiques, books and fine foods. The locals stop to exchange a few words, kiss each other on both cheeks and continue on their way: everything here blends together so effortlessly to create a most charming example of a French provincial town. Honfleur was the birthplace of Eugene Boudin, the forerunner of Impressionism whose most famous pupil was a certain Claude Monet. There is a museum, which is well worth a visit, housing a number of his works together with those of other artists including Monet himself (please note opening hours vary according to season). We return to the hotel late afternoon. Signature experience: Normandy is well-known for its apples for a reason. Around 750 different apple varieties are grown within the regions, some of which are ideal for making cider, so we couldn't truly say we've visited Normandy without a visit to a local, family-run cider maker. Here, they combine traditional and modern methods to produce organic cider, free from chemicals and pesticides. On our visit, we'll enjoy a tasting of cider - or as the French say "cidre" - paired with a selection of expertly chosen local cheeses. And we'll end our experience with a glass of Calvados - Normandy's famous apple brandy.

Today we have a full day out visiting places for which Normandy is perhaps more famous. We first of all visit Bayeux, which as its name suggests is home to the world famous tapestry depicting the Norman invasion of Britain in 1066 which subsequently led to the Battle of Hastings and the firm establishment of William as, not only Duke of Normandy, but as King of England too. The embroidery is extremely delicate and indeed this is arguably the most perfect relic we have of the Middle Ages. After lunch we visit nearby Gold Beach, made so famous on 6th June 1944 – D-Day, the landing of the Allied Armies which led to the final liberation of Europe during the Second World War. We have the opportunity to visit perhaps the best museum in the area, at Arromanches, where the remnants of the Mulberry Harbour can be seen. We then return to our hotel. Whilst the excursions are included in your holiday, they are not compulsory so if you do not wish to take any of them, you can have more time to explore Rouen. Its attractions are numerous: it boasts the largest ceramic art museum in Europe, an excellent Fine Arts museum, including works by Monet, Renoir, Boudin and Delacroix, a superb shopping area, the fantastic cathedral, together with some of the most beautiful “olde worlde” streets you will find anywhere.

Claude Monet’s paintings are some of the most exquisite and familiar works of art ever produced, and to witness first-hand the spectacular displays of colour at the artist’s house and garden at Giverny is an unforgettable experience. In the Japanese-inspired water garden, shaded by a great willow tree and surrounded by bamboo, rhododendrons and azaleas, is the lily pond where he painted his famous Les Nympheas (Water Lilies) series. Little surprise he referred to the garden as ‘my most beautiful masterpiece’. The interior of the house, including the artist’s studio, is similarly outstanding. Later we continue to Paris for our return Eurostar.

4* Mercure - Rouen

The Mercure Rouen Champ De Mars is four-star rated. This modern, comfortable hotel is very well located for our tours of the region and is just a ten minute stroll from the old quarter of Rouen. The hotel has a restaurant and bar and the spacious bedrooms are all ensuite, air conditioned and have a TV, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities.

Route map

Les Andelys

During the night our ship slips her mooring and, as you enjoy breakfast, the landscape passes by serenely and you quickly get used to this luxurious sightseeing experience.

Rounding a sweeping bend so typical of the Seine, we reach the town of Mantes-la-Jolie with its imposing church – so large and architecturally impressive it could be a cathedral – while straight ahead is a medieval stone bridge. The central section of the bridge was destroyed during the Second World War and never repaired – it’s the first of many poignant reminders that this region of France has been a battleground for centuries.

Beyond Mantes we encounter another typical feature of the Seine as it flows seaward – picturesque chalk cliffs, almost resembling a giant’s teeth. Beautiful villages like La Roche Guyon slide by, surrounded by bocage countryside of lush pastures and high hedgerows, countless cider orchards, half-timbered barns and ancient wooden farmhouses. We’re truly in the heart of one of France’s historic and stunningly attractive dukedoms – Normandy.

While you’re enjoying your first delicious lunch, the captain has skilfully berthed at Les Andelys, a small town dominated by one of the most spectacular sights along the entire valley – Château Gaillard.

This afternoon we discover the story behind this remarkable castle. The remarkable Château Gaillard guards the apex of the river bend and was built by Richard the Lionheart in the 12th-century to defend Rouen from the French. Besieged many times during the turbulent history of northern France, Château Gaillard is now one of the most dramatic ruins in the region.

Included experience:

Visit to Les Andelys and Château Gaillard.

Les Andelys

We awake in Rouen, Normandy’s capital, one of Europe’s finest medieval cities and scene of many momentous events over the centuries. Pride of place on our guided tour of the city belongs to its stunning Gothic cathedral, which was immortalised by the great Impressionist Claude Monet in a series of 28 paintings showing the facade at varying times of day and in different weather conditions. Briefly becoming the world’s tallest building when the soaring spire was added in the 19th century, the cathedral is also notable for the recumbent statue reputedly containing the heart of Richard the Lionheart.

Rouen’s beautifully tangled alleyways are a revelation, lined with antique shops, tasteful boutiques and, of course, countless restaurants serving exceptional local cuisine emphasising the country’s outstanding gastronomic heritage. The Place du Vieux-Marché is one of the city’s most poignant spots; a large cross mark the point where the ‘Maid of Orléans’ Joan of Arc was burned at the stake for her beliefs.

Cruise towards Caudebec-en-Caux

During another superb lunch we cast off to navigate through yet more twists and turns, chalk cliffs and a landscape of forest-covered hills that are designated as areas of outstanding natural beauty and sanctuaries for diverse wildlife, including deer and wild boar. Another highlight of the valley soon greets us – the ethereal ruins of Jumièges Abbey. Founded in the 7th century, it was consecrated in the presence of William the Conqueror and was an important political and religious centre until it was sacked in the 16th century.

Should you wish, why not arrange to visit the wheelhouse, the Captain is always delighted to explain to those interested how the highly sophisticated navigation and safety systems operate.

In the late afternoon we moor in the pretty town of Caudebec-en-Caux, so why not take a stroll to explore this lovely spot, with its typical market square, richly decorated church and the Maison des Templiers, one of the oldest houses in Normandy.

After dinner, enjoy the laid-back tones of a guitarist singing traditional French melodies.

Guided tour of Rouen, visit to Caudebec-en-Caux & French guitarist performance.

Rouen's Gothic Cathedral - Rouen, France

Bayeux & Arromanches

After breakfast you’ll be ready for a full-day tour exploring two of the most important aspects of European history – the Bayeux Tapestry and the D-Day landings. (Please note lunch is not provided today.)

Bayeux itself is a delightful town with a historic core that escaped the ravages of war, so you can marvel at its many splendid buildings including the grand Gothic cathedral. But, of course, Bayeux is most famous as the home of the tapestry telling the story of the Norman invasion of Britain in 1066 in glorious detail. Among its 75 scenes are the coronation of Harold following the death of Edward the Confessor and his subsequent demise at the Battle of Hastings, which led to William of Normandy invading England and becoming king.

The 230-foot-long tapestry is made up of nine panels of extremely delicate embroidery – gazing at its wonderful depictions of the battle and the period’s architecture, weapons and everyday life, you’ll appreciate why the Bayeux Tapestry is arguably the finest relic of the Middle Ages.

Arromanches

This afternoon we drive to Arromanches, where you will have free time for lunch. Then enjoy a visit to a museum dedicated to the ‘longest day’ where you can still see remnants of the two Mulberry harbours constructed for the landing craft.

Leaving Arromanches, we continue to the British Normandy Memorial – unveiled in 2021, the 77th anniversary of the D-Day landings. From here you have best point of view to Gold Beach, one of the five main landing sites on D-Day, when Allied forces surged into Normandy to begin the liberation of occupied Europe. Casting your eyes across the sand to the water’s edge, it’s sobering to consider that on 6 June 1944 around 25,000 British troops came ashore on this one beach with 400 killed by the defenders.

We will then drive back to the ship moored in Caudebec. After a day recalling such momentous events and the stories surrounding them, thoughts turn again to the culinary delights awaiting you in the refined comfort of the ship’s restaurant.

Visit to the Bayeux Tapestry & the D-Day Normandy Beaches.

The Bayeux Tapestry - Normandy, France

Honfleur is often regarded as the most picturesque spot on the northern French coast, and after breakfast we make the short journey to this delightful town and enjoy a guided tour. Its old harbour, sheltering both fishing boats and luxurious pleasure craft, is beautifully preserved and surrounded by a perfect waterfront of pastel-coloured 16th- to 18th-century houses, many converted to seafood restaurants.

Watch the talented artists capturing the captivating views along the waterfront, while the intricate maze of streets behind is also well worth discovering. The eaves of the tall half-timbered buildings almost touch, and on the streets below is an abundance of traditional shops selling antiques, books and fine foods. Honfleur’s most famous son is Eugene Boudin, one of the forerunners of Impressionism and a friend of Claude Monet, who also painted the harbour many times.

Cruise towards Vernon

After returning to the ship for lunch, we slip our mooring and begin our passage back upstream, retracing the river’s winding course, its huge variety of wildlife, enchanting scenery and forests, all reflected in differing colours in the sparkling waters.

Villages slip by, birds glide on thermals rising from the surrounding cliffs, it’s an ideal opportunity to join new friends for a chat. Squeeze in a spot of reading on the Sun Deck or simply recline, letting the gentle breezes lull you into a relaxing doze. By this stage of your cruise, you’ll be totally unwound, and modern life will seem very distant.

Guided tour of Honfleur.

Honfleur, France

Giverny & Vernon

Claude Monet's house & garden in Giverny

One of the great delights of river cruising is the magical sensation of waking up in a different place from where you were the night before. This morning the ship has moored in delightful Vernon, and we take the short drive to Giverny to visit Monet’s Garden and house.

The artist himself called his garden his ‘most beautiful masterpiece’, and it’s certainly one of the world’s most photographed and painted, ideally viewed in the delicate morning light. In the Japanese-inspired water garden, shaded by great weeping willows and surrounded by bamboo, rhododendrons and azaleas, is the lily pond where he painted his extraordinary Les Nymphéas (Water Lilies) series. There’s ample time to wander here, absorbing the tranquil atmosphere while marvelling at the light bouncing off foliage of every hue and the magical reflections dancing off the water.

After another leisurely lunch on board, you can explore Vernon’s quaint buildings before embarking on our cruise to Paris.  This evening is the Chef's Dinner, featuring some of their signature dishes - a truly memorable experience. As the sun sets on the shimmering Seine and the Norman countryside recedes into dusk, it’s a perfect time to reflect on your few days cruising among the creamy chalk cliffs and charming villages of this splendid river.

Visits to Claude Monet’s house and garden & Vernon.

House on the Seine - Vernon, France

We have arrived in Paris and this morning we take a sightseeing tour of this amazing capital, one of the world’s most iconic cities. The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Élysées, Sacré-Coeur – you’ll see all these and much more.

The grand Place de la Concorde, the largest square in the city, shows off 18th-century French architecture at its best, and just over the Seine on the Left Bank you’ll find the Musée d’Orsay, home of the world’s finest Impressionist art collection. Then there’s the eccentrically modern and yet stylish Pompidou Centre, famous not only for its exhibits but also for street entertainment. Notre-Dame Cathedral and the delicate spire of the sublime Saint-Chapelle dominate the Île de la Cité, while the exquisite Tuileries Gardens are perfect for a stroll.

After lunch on board, you could visit fine shops such as the Galeries Lafayette or those in the smart arcaded Rue de Rivoli, or perhaps wander around the café-lined streets of bohemian Montmartre. Paris is everything you imagine it to be – romantic, inspiring, vibrant – even outrageous – but best of all Paris is unique, and a fitting finale to a wonderful cruise.

After dinner tonight, there's the chance to enjoy more famous French melodies and songs performed by a professional accordionist.

Guided tour of Paris & accordionist performance.

In the late afternoon, we moor in the pretty town of Caudebec-en-Caux.

After dinner, enjoy the laid-back tones of a guitarist singing traditional French melodies.

Guided tour of Rouen, visit to Caudebec-en-Caux & French guitarist performance.

Rouen Cathedral

Bayeux Tapestry

Honfleur

As the sun sets on the shimmering Seine and the Norman countryside recedes into dusk, it’s a perfect time to reflect on your few days cruising among the creamy chalk cliffs and charming villages of this splendid river.

Visits to Claude Monet's house and garden & Vernon.

Vernon

We have arrived in Paris and this morning we take a sightseeing tour of this amazing capital, one of the world’s most iconic cities. We'll see many of the outstanding monuments Paris has to offer - including the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, the Trocadéro, the Musee D'Orsay and much more before returning to the ship for lunch. You are also welcome to stay in the city and frequent one of the city's many cosy cafés.

After lunch, your afternoon is free to enjoy Paris and the many attractions of this amazing city. We are moored close to a well-connected RER station which allows easy access for you to tick a few items off your bucket list. You could see the grand Place de la Concorde, the largest square in the city, which shows off 18th-century French architecture at its best, visit Galleries Lafayette - the historic high-end department store - or the Musée d’Orsay, home of the world’s finest Impressionist art collection.

Alternatively, you may wish to simply stroll along the Champs Elysees, enjoy a walk in the Tuileries Gardens or perhaps wander through the café lined streets of the city.

Passing the legendary Jumiège Abbey, we moor in the pretty village of Caudebec with time after dinner for an evening stroll in this most typical of French villages. Then to Bayeux, spared significant war damage, it retains its wealth of splendid buildings as well as the legendary and stunning tapestry for which it is so famed. We also see some of the many thought-provoking monuments and places along the Normandy coast and reflect on the remarkable story of the D-Day landings on our visit to Gold Beach and the remnants of Mulberry Harbour. Arrival in Paris

Take the Eurostar from London St Pancras International to Paris or fly to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. On arrival, transfer by coach to your cruise ship moored on the River Seine in the heart of the city. The friendly crew will welcome you on board, helping you settle into your spacious and exquisitely furnished accommodation – you’ll immediately feel at home.

This evening you enjoy your first sumptuous dinner, served in the ship’s restaurant.

Route Map

Les Andelys, France
