Cruise to Nowhere: Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises – Which is Better?

Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises

Having been to Cruise to Nowhere with Royal Caribbean Cruise and Cruise to Nowhere with Dream Cruises , it is now time to give the lowdown of which company actually does cruise to nowhere better! In this post, we’ll check out the dining options, activities and shows on the cruise to nowhere with both Dream Cruises (World Dream) and Royal Caribbean Cruise (Quantum of the Seas)!

Book with Klook Here: Royal Caribbean Cruises

Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises – The Applications

Royal App - Royal Caribbean Cruise App for all your cruise preparations and planning!

There are applications developed by both Royal Caribbean Cruise and Dream Cruises for their respective cruisers. However, Dream Cruises’ app can only be accessed via the wifi onboard World Dream. On the other hand, Royal Caribbean’s app can be accessed using the usual wifi. Of course, for booking of shows, both utilises the wifi onboard. The cool thing about RCC’s app is that you’ll be able to see what are the activities and packages that you have booked, all before you board the cruise ship.

Winner : Royal Caribbean Cruise

Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises – Pre-Departure Tests

Royal Caribbean Cruise Swab Test at Raffles City

Royal Caribbean Cruise utilises the PCR swab test as the pre-departure COVID test while Dream Cruises uses the ART test. This means that for cruise to nowhere with Royal Caribbean Cruise, you’ll have to make a booking for a PCR test, take a half a day off to head to Raffles City to take the PCR test before the cruise. On the other hand, for Dream Cruise, you’ll just have to head over on the day of the cruise to take the ART. Within 20 minutes, you’ll have the results to board the cruise ship. The winner here is obvious.

Winner : Dream Cruises

[Update] Royal Caribbean Cruise has changed its pre-departure test to ART, on the day of departure, from 8 November 2021 onwards . However, the ART tests from December 2021 onwards, requires testing at Raffles City – which means passengers have to travel back to Marina Bay Cruise Centre after testing negative. Hence, on site testing by Dream Cruises at Marina Bay Cruise Terminal still edges slightly ahead in this department.

Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises – Complimentary Dining

There are really pros and cons of the complimentary dining on both Royal Caribbean Cruise and Dream Cruises. Let’s dwell into the details:

Cuisine Options

Buffet rows at the Lido onboard World Dream

There are buffet options at both the Windjammer (Quantum of the Seas) and the Lido (World Dream) while the complimentary seated dining rooms of both Dream Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruise offer both Western and Asian options. Hence, we’ll consider it a draw in this department.

Multiple Dining during Each Meal

Definitely a win for Royal Caribbean Cruise. This is because during meal times onboard World Dream, you can only choose to dine at one of 3 dining venues. Once you’ve dined there, you will have to pay extra to dine at another venue. Royal Caribbean Cruise on the other hand, allows you to dine and multiple locations during the same meal time. As a caveat though, both cruises allow top up of dishes at the seated restaurants. But in this department, without the restrictions, Royal Caribbean Cruise wins hands down.

Royal Caribbean Cruise does better in the western dishes while Dream Cruises does better in the asian dishes. So it is a draw. However, overall Royal Caribbean still does aaaa little better. Hence, the over winner in the complimentary dining options department is :

Overall Winner : Royal Caribbean Cruise

Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises – Specialty Dining

16oz Prime Bone-In Ribeye Chops Grille Royal Caribbean Cruise Review

Overall, in terms of taste, quality and price, Royal Caribbean’s Specialty Dining Options win hands down. Just take a look at the size of the steak from Chops Grille. It was REALLY good by the way. Also, Wonderland on Quantum of the Seas has innovative and creative cuisine that really excites the palate. None of that on the World Dream.

However, the Hot Pot option on World Dream does give a different touch to the hot pot experience. Enjoying the cool evening sea breeze and sea views while tucking into a simmering hot pot is definitely an unique experience. However, the winner in this department is clear…

Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises – Complimentary Activities

We won’t go into the same offerings of swimming pool, gym, jacuzzi, rock wall, table tennis and basketball. Let’s look at the differences though…

Royal Caribbean Cruise

Bumper Cars at SeaPlex (aft Deck 15) of Quantum of the Seas

FlowRider and Bumper Cars are some premium activities that Royal Caribbean Cruise offers. We especially enjoyed the Bumper Cars. Bumper cars on a cruise? How great is that?! The Solarium is another sanctuary that we enjoyed as it’s an adults-only area that offer great views while soaking in the hot tub.

Dream Cruises

Rope Course - Genting World Dream Cruise to Nowhere

Dream Cruises on the other hand offers water slides and a rope course, complete with a flying fox. As for sanctuaries, Palm Court offers great views in a quiet setting. We totally enjoyed both the water slides and rope course. If we were to choose between the activities that are different, we actually prefer the rope course and water slides. However, if you’re a regular surfing dude, it is definitely a high CP-value to have it complimentary for the cruisers.

Winner : Draw

Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises – Paid Activities

Ripcord by iFLY Quantum of the Seas Royal Caribbean Cruise

As for paid activities, there is iFly onboard the Quantum of the Seas. How cool is that, again?! There’s also an observatory through the North Star, a novelty for cruise ships. As for Dream Cruises , there’s the VR experiences. The motion simulator is definitely a new concept that we have not tried before and you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg to try it. In terms of novelty and pricing, both are still neck-in-neck. Hence, we’ll call it a tie here.

Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise vs Dream Cruises – Performances

There were 4 headliner shows during our cruise to nowhere with Quantum of the Seas. This includes Gold Art Duo, The BeatleManiacs, Starwater and Sequins and Feathers…

Gold Art Duo Quantum of the Seas Headliner , Cruise to Nowhere Royal Caribbean Cruise

Around the ship, there are also other musical performances on the piano, drums, bands and our favourite – the Accolade Duo (Violinist Victoria Stryzhak and Guitarist Anna)

As for Dream Cruises , there were only 2 main shows and some singing performances…

Magic Show Vision by French Magician Vincent Vignaud on World Dream

In terms of number of shows and quality of the shows, Royal Caribbean Cruise wins hands down. We enjoyed all the shows and particularly the violin performances by Victoria Stryzhak. Simply breathtaking!

All in all, you’d notice that Royal Caribbean Cruise wins in many of the categories listed above and rightly so . This is because for an equivalent balcony stateroom, Royal Caribbean Cruise can cost almost twice the price of Dream Cruises . Many have mentioned that this is because Dream Cruises is heavily subsidised by gamblers on World Dream 🙄

So, if we’re really comparing based on the offerings of both Royal Caribbean Cruise and Dream Cruise , without price considerations. Royal Caribbean wins the challenge with better food options, quality shows and a generally nicer vibe all around the ship (everywhere you go within World Dream, you’ll definitely see a slot machine). But if price is a consideration, we’d say that Dream Cruises is not that far off . With the same price, you can “upgrade” your overall experience with the Classic Beverage Package like we did. With that, we felt that Dream Cruises is still a viable option. Of course, if price is not a consideration, Royal Caribbean Cruise with its better food, quality shows, out-of-this-cruise-world offerings such as bumper cars, flowrider and iFly definitely wins Dream Cruise hands down!

If you’re heading to your next Cruise to Nowhere with Royal Caribbean Cruise or Dream Cruises , we hope that our posts will be able to help you in decision-making and planning for your next cruise! Enjoy!

POINT-BY-POINT COMPARISON FOR ROYAL CARIBBEAN AND DREAM CRUISES

November 3, 2021, 4:46 pm

1. COVID-19 Measures

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Royal Caribbean:

While both cruises have mandatory COVID-19 testing before you embark on the ship, Royal Caribbean requires you to take 2 compulsory COVID-19 tests. The first test is a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test, which is to be taken at Raffles City Shopping Center 48-72 hours before departure. The second is an Antigen Rapid Test (ART) which will be done on the day of departure at the cruise terminal carpark. Passengers will have to arrive early, do the ART test and wait 1 hour for their negative test result before they can board the ship.

Dream Cruises:

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Unlike Royal Caribbean, Dream Cruises only requires you to take 1 ART test on the day itself before departure. Similarly, passengers will have to report early, take the test at the terminal carpark and wait 1 hour for a negative test result before they can board the ship.

2. Staterooms

Arguably one of the most important parts of booking a cruise trip: picking the room you’ll be staying in for the next couple of days. Royal Caribbean allows you the freedom to select your exact stateroom before during booking so you can choose where exactly on the ship you’ll want to spend your nights, be it near the elevators, far from entertainment venues, mid-ship for minimal walking etc.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

In general, Royal Caribbean also has larger stateroom sizes, and more wardrobe and storage spaces available for guests to store their belongings. The balconies at Royal Caribbean are also more spacious.

Unfortunately, Dream Cruises does not allow you to choose your stateroom during booking. If you want to reserve your preferred room, you’ll have to make a call to request it.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Dream Cruises’ staterooms are also slightly smaller than those at Royal Caribbean, with less wardrobe space and no drawers available. The balcony is also more cramped and narrow as compared to the balconies at Royal Caribbean.

3. Room Amenities

Royal Caribbean: Toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and separate body wash, shampoo and conditioner are not provided in Royal Caribbean. Instead, they provide 3-in-1 shampoo to use for hair and body.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

As for drinking water, Royal Caribbean only provides bottled water on the first day, leaving you to purchase your own drinking water and other beverages for the rest of the cruise.

TV programmes in Royal Caribbean are also chargeable, so if you’re looking to watch movies in your room, you’ll have to purchase them.

Unlike Royal Caribbean, Dream Cruises staterooms are furnished with toiletries like toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Dream Cruises also provides guests with bottled water daily, so you don’t have to buy your own.

Dream also has many free TV programmes available for your viewing, from English to Chinese shows and movies.

4. Activities

Complimentary activities at Royal Caribbean include the FlowRider, zipline and rock climbing and more. The FlowRider accommodates 2 guests at one time, with each surf session lasting 5-10 minutes; while the rock climbing wall allows 3 guests to scale the wall at any one time. Since reservations are not required for these activities, you can expect longer wait times for each one.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

You can pre-book slots to attend other activities at Seaplex such as dancing, yoga, table tennis, bumper cars, mini golf and more. Some of these activities are not first-come-first-serve and operate strictly by reservation basis, so make sure to secure your slot via the Cruise Planner before your sail date or on Day 1 at Seaplex if you wish to take part in certain activities onboard Royal Caribbean. You’ll have to book slots for all the activities you want to take part in for all the days of the cruise by Day 1 itself.

Dream Cruises: Dream has six slides: 5 adult slides and 1 kids slide, rock climbing, rope course, and a zipline—all of which are complimentary and do not incur any additional charges in order to enjoy them.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

You don’t have to reserve or book a slot to enjoy the activities either, simply line up and wait for your turn. Since there are multiple slides available, with each slide taking only a minute to complete, as well as a rope course that can accommodate up to 10 people at one time, guests are well-distributed across all activities, minimising the waiting time for activities.

Dream also has similar activities to Royal Caribbean, however unlike Royal Caribbean, you don’t have to pre-book your slot for these activities. All you have to do is browse the newsletter daily for activities you’re interested in joining and then proceed to the venue 10 minutes prior in order to secure your slot.

There are 3 pool sections available at Royal Caribbean: the indoor pool, outdoor pool and the Solarium (for 18 year olds and above only).

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

IG: @sk5091s

You don’t have to book a time slot to use the pools, all you have to do is line up and wait for your turn. At any point of time, about 20 guests will be allowed in the pool, and each group will only be allowed 10 minutes of pool time. Once the 10 minutes are up, the lifeguard will call all guests to leave the pool to allow the next group of guests to enter.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Unlike Royal Caribbean, Dream only has 1 outdoor pool and jacuzzi available to use. To use the pool, you’ll have to manually book a time slot. Approach the staff in order to book a slot, and they will give you a paper slip with your time slot written on it. Each time slot grants guests 1 hour of pool time.

6. Live Shows

All the shows on Royal Caribbean are free but some of them require prior reservations in order to secure a seat. You can pre-reserve tickets to live shows online via the Cruise Planner .

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Royal Caribbean is the only cruise line offering Tony Award-winning Broadway musicals onboard: from Grease, Cats, Mamma Mia! and Hairspray. Other shows available include Comedy Juggling by Steve Rawlings, Gold Art Duo, Sequins and Feathers, Starwater and Viktoria Stryzhak.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Dream Cruises also has a host of free live shows to suit all audiences such as acrobatics, magic shows, cabarets, theatre productions and more. Look forward to shows like Dream Boys (male strip show), Lumière (comedy show), Jolly Holly (seasonal Christmas show), FAITH (theatrics and acrobatics) and VISION by Vincent Vignaud (illusions and magic), just to name a few.

7. Casino & Shopping

While Royal Caribbean does have a casino, it is smaller as compared to the one onboard Dream Cruises. Betting in Royal Caribbean casinos are done in USD, so if you’re intending to visit the casino, make sure to have enough cash in US currency in order to play. Shopping options on Royal Caribbean are more bountiful, with plenty of high-end and luxury shops in their Royal Promenade shopping street such as Tiffany & Co, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, TAG Heuer and more.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Though the casino on Dream Cruises is grander and more impressive, spanning 3 decks with plenty of slot machines, table games like Roulette and Black Jack, electronic table games and more; shopping options are more limited, with only several duty-free shops available.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

8. Food & Beverages

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

In general, Royal Caribbean’s food options cater more to an international palate, with specialty fine dining and Italian restaurants such as Wonderland and Jamie’s Italian. Royal Caribbean also has complimentary dining across 4 rooms, all of which serve the same menu but with a more personal dining experience as you’ll be seated at the same area each time so your waiter will be familiar with your preferences. There is also a buffet, the Windjammer, Chops Grille steakhouse, Izumi for Japanese and Coastal Kitchen.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Food options on Dream Cruises are identical to those served on Royal Caribbean, except with a more Asian twist to cater more towards local palates. Dream Cruises has a Hot Pot restaurant and Chinese restaurant called Silk Road for those who prefer more Chinese cuisine as compared to Western. Similar to Royal Caribbean, Dream Cruises has main dining rooms, except the difference is there is no fixed timing for dining; dining times are strictly first-come-first-serve, so you probably be seated at a different table each time, with no personalised service. Identical to Royal Caribbean, Dream Cruises also has a buffet called The Lido, Prime Steakhouse and Umi Uma for Japanese.

Royal Caribbean or Dream Cruises: Which is the better cruise line?

Updated: Jun 8, 2021

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Unfortunately, leisure air travel is still out of the question for most Singaporeans. Staycations aside - the only thing close to a real holiday is going on a cruise.

Even if it’s just a cruise-to-nowhere, the trip is technically “overseas”. And I for one was all too happy to get onboard, having fallen in love with cruising after freelance writing for Cruise Passenger and Cruise & Travel Asia since 2018.

There are currently two cruises that depart from Marina Bay Cruise Terminal: Dream Cruises’ World Dream and Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas. At present, both are round-trip cruises with no port stops.

Of course, you might be wondering which one to choose for your vacation at sea. Get ready for the ultimate cruise-line showdown!

Health & safety

In a world where Covid is still a looming threat, your first priority is how safe these ships are. Thankfully, the answer is very.

Yes - there was that false positive case back on Royal Caribbean in December. But rest assured that the line and crew do take your health & safety very seriously.

Royal Caribbean bumper cars

On Royal, you’re required to go for a PCR test within 48 to 72 hours prior to boarding, and receive a negative result before being cleared for embarkation. Once I boarded, the crew were extremely vigilant about safety distancing and health protocols, firmly reminding us to keep one-metre apart and not cluster together. You’re required to wear a ‘tracelet’ at all times for contact tracing, with temperature-taking at practically every section of the ship.

Dream Cruises’ temperature-taking and hand-sanitising stations

The same pretty much goes for Dream Cruises: a ‘mice pod’ to be carried everywhere, frequent temperature-checks and sanitising dispensers at most restaurant/ theatre entrances. As my trip with World Dream was a media trip, I got to visit the medical centre as well. And trust me, it’s as well-equipped as it can be, with numerous isolation wards and upgraded medical equipment.

Dream Cruises medical centre

The only difference would probably be the pre-embarkation Covid test. In contrast to Royal, Dream does a rapid antigen test on the day of boarding. Whilst less accurate than the ‘gold standard’ PCR test, doing a test on the day itself does give you less “window” to actually catch the virus before your trip.

The winner : It’s a draw! There’s no question that both lines take health & safety seriously. So whichever you choose, rest assured that they're doing their best to ensure you don’t catch the dreaded virus.

Scoreboard: Royal Caribbean : 1 Dream Cruises: 1

Free-flow food’s a big draw for people, especially us Singaporeans! Even though I didn’t try any specialty dining restaurants on Royal Caribbean, I absolutely loved the food that was complimentary.

Royal Caribbean escargots

Over at Quantum of the Seas’ Main Dining Room, the dishes on most days were consistently good - coupled with great service from our waitstaff. The menu changes every day, and you can order a dish as many times as you want!

Royal Caribbean Steak Diane

Being a huge steak lover, my favourites were the beef tenderloin and steak Diane - both tender and well-seasoned. Other standouts were the pulled pork sandwich and cream pasta with mussels and prawn. And not to forget desserts like bananas foster and their signature apple tart with vanilla ice cream.

Royal Caribbean Windjammer

There’s also a huge selection of food at their ala-carte buffet restaurant Windjammer Marketplace. You’ll find everything from tacos, to pasta and Chinese-style noodles, Indian food and a meat station which changes daily. And if you find yourself getting hungry in the late evening, the Café Promenade is open till 3am with options like freshly-baked pizza, desserts, coffee and tea.

Dream Cruises The Lido

On Dream Cruises’ World Dream, the Lido and Dream Dining Room are where you want to be for the all-inclusive meals. I didn't get the opportunity to try the Dining Room, but I found the food selection at the Lido a little limited as compared to Royal’s Windjammer. There were staples like rice, pasta and various meats and fishes, but none really stood out for me as being particularly ‘wow’.

Dream Cruises The Palace Restaurant

Being a Palace guest (Dream’s VIP experience for suite guests), I did enjoy the food at The Palace Restaurant. Service was super efficient, and their Asian/western offerings like char kway teow and cream pasta with white truffle oil were excellent. The specialty restaurants were a hit-and-miss. Teppanyaki restaurant Umi Uma was my favourite, but I was disappointed with the tough steak at Mark Best’s Seafood and Grill.

The winner : Royal Caribbean. Overall, I’d say Royal Caribbean wins this round. Their all-inclusive options are consistently solid, as compared to Dream where I preferred the food served for suite-only guests. I’ll be back to try the food at Dream’s dining room though!

Scoreboard: Royal Caribbean : 2 Dream Cruises: 1

Both World Dream and Quantum of the Seas are mega-ships catered to multi-generational families, meaning there are loads of activities to keep you occupied.

Royal Caribbean iFly

On Quantum, I had a blast trying out iFly (chargeable at around $40 SGD), the ship’s skydiving simulator. There’s also the FloRider, their very cool surf simulator that’s free-of-charge. Other activities to check out include the North Star observation capsule (chargeable), dance classes, trivia game shows, rock-climbing and bumper cars, table tennis and Xbox video games at activity centre the Seaplex.

Pre-Covid, Quantum also organised laser tag battles and an Escape room at the Seaplex. Here’s hoping these activities will resume once restrictions are further relaxed.

Dream Cruises’ rock-climbing

Cruising with World Dream, I tried out rock-climbing, mini-golf and an ESC Experience Lab with numerous VR games. Racing down the five slides at their Waterslide Park was a blast!

Dream Cruises’ mini-golf

World Dream also comes with a high-elements obstacle course, zip line over the ocean, video game centre and a sports deck where you can play basketball or other games. Other activities on my cruise included fitness classes and health & wellness talks.

Oh, and both cruises also have kids’ clubs to keep your little ones occupied!

The winner: Tough fight, but I’m going with Dream. If you fail to book Royal’s chargeable activities (iFly and North Star) before boarding your cruise, these are quite pricey to book directly on board.

Whereas for Dream, most activities are complimentary except for the ESC Experience Lab. Activities like zip-lining and the obstacle course will also please adventure-seekers.

When Royal re-introduces the complimentary laser tag and Escape room, I’d say Dream would face a run for its money!

Scoreboard: Royal Caribbean : 2 Dream Cruises: 2

Entertainment

Royal Caribbean theatre show

Part of what makes cruises so attractive are the free shows. On Royal, you’re treated to world-class entertainment with their nightly performances. My favourite was Gold Art Duo - a pair of acrobats who appeared on Ukranian’s Got Talent. They were accompanied by the enthusiastic Royal Theatre cast, whose singing and dancing certainly impressed the audience.

Royal Caribbean comedy show

There were other great acts too, such as an Australian magician and illusionist and British comedy juggler.

 Live music on Royal Caribbean

I was also happy that live music in the bars and lounges were back again. Whilst definitely on a toned-down scale compared to pre-Covid (no alcohol being sold during performances at lounges, no pianists/ guitarists along the Royal Esplanade), musicians were still in top form.

I particularly enjoyed the tunes of guitarist Carlo Rafana, who sounded very much like Bruno Mars with his smooth and powerful vocals.

Dream Cruises shows

As for Dream Cruises, nightly entertainment at Dream’s theatre included a husband-wife duo singing evergreen hits, and their highlight ‘Very Merry Christmas’ show. The singing duo were honestly a little underwhelming, with tunes that would mostly appeal to adults in their 50s and up. I did enjoy the Christmas show though, which brought in trampoline acrobats and dancers.

Zouk Beach Club

Sadly, live music at the various lounges was still not permitted when I went on World Dream’s November sailing. They did have a wider range of movies screening at their Zouk Beach Club, as compared to Royal Caribbean’s selection at their pool deck.

The winner: Royal takes this round, with better quality acts and more entertainment options. Once Dream’s bars and lounges are back in full-swing, I’d be very interested to check out their live music.

Scoreboard : Royal Caribbean : 3 Dream Cruises: 2

Accommodation & room service

Ok - this one is hard to compare because I stayed in different room types on Quantum and World Dream.

Royal Caribbean balcony stateroom

On Royal Caribbean, I stayed in a Balcony Stateroom. It was clean and well-appointed, with all the usuals you’d expect like a comfy bed, TV, closet and safe.

Royal Caribbean stateroom bathroom

However, amenities are rather on the minimal side (only two bottles of water on the first day, no toothbrush kit, shower cap and bar soap). They included a 2-in-1 body wash and shampoo dispenser, which is serviceable but makes your hair feel rather dry and hay-like. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner if you want smooth and silky tresses.

Royal Caribbean animal towels

Room-service wise, no complaints there. Our bed was made up perfectly when we returned each day, and I loved the cute towel animals that housekeeping staff folded to greet us upon our return to the cabins.

World Dream Palace suite

I stayed at a Palace Suite on World Dream, which boasted a luxurious duvet bed, spacious quarters, 24/hour butler service and a bathroom that included both a standing shower and bathtub. The bathroom also came with amenities like premium bath toiletries (including separate shampoo and conditioner and toothbrush kits), which I greatly appreciated.

My butler Clarence was a Godsend too - super proactive with requests like helping to book shows and restaurants. Housekeeping staff were great as well, but I did feel they missed out some little details like cleaning out an empty chips container and half-eaten desserts.

The winner: Like I said, two very different room types. But based on my research, World Dream’s standard balcony staterooms are slightly larger than Quantum’s at over 20 sqm. Looking at past reviews by other netizens, the bathrooms seem to include complimentary toiletries, amenities and daily top-up of bottled water.

So accommodation-wise, Dream Cruises knocks out Royal in this round.

Scoreboard: Royal Caribbean : 3 Dream Cruises: 3

I firmly believe there’s more to picking a cruise than just looking for the cheapest option. Value is important too, so we’ll see which one is most value-for-money.

But to start, let’s look at prices. I paid around 660 SGD per person (including gratuities, port charges and tax) for a three-night sailing on Quantum of the Seas, travelling in a balcony stateroom during mid December. This fee includes the PCR Covid test that Royal conducts before embarkation.

For a 3-Night sailing, the cheapest interior stateroom would set you back about 400 SGD per person (all charges in) based on current rates found on their website. The cheapest suite costs around 700 SGD per person.

On World Dream, a balcony stateroom three-night sailing would set you back around 449 SGD per person (2 to go). However, this excludes the $60 port charge, $60 antigen test, and $21 per night gratuity charge. So all-in-all, you’re looking at around 632 SGD per person.

An interior stateroom 3-night sailing costs around 249 SGD per person, and a Palace Suite costs around 1,189 SGD per person.

Do note that pricing fluctuates based on demand and season - this is merely a guide. World Dream’s prices were quoted based on sailings for November and December last year. Both lines also have frequent sales (e.g. kids sail free offers for Royal), so do check out their website for more updates.

Verdict: For a standard balcony cabin, Dream is slightly cheaper. However, when talking value-for-money, I’d choose Royal. If you don’t fancy paying extra for pricey alcohol packages and room upgrades, Royal’s all-inclusive food and great entertainment is enough to keep you satisfied.

Whereas on Dream, the better food was found at the specialty dining restaurants and Palace restaurant (only for suite guests). Guests who don’t pay for these privileges don’t get to enjoy this. And shows at the theatre were more wow-worthy on Royal as well.

Scoreboard: Royal Caribbean : 4 Dream Cruises: 3

So the winner is……

Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas

By a very slight margin, Royal Caribbean!

Honestly I had a blast on both cruise lines. But Royal gets my overall vote for value, food and entertainment, especially if you’re on a budget and not planning to pay for add-ons or staying in a suite.

That being said, Dream is definitely a worthy contender. I love its range of activities, and the ship, rooms and specialty restaurants certainly have that premium, luxurious feel.

Whichever you decide to go on, you’ll pretty much enjoy an awesome escape at sea!

If you’ve been on both Dream Cruises and Royal Caribbean ships, let me know which you enjoyed more!

Royal caribbean (quantum of the seas) vs world dream cruise – cruise to nowhere.

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise – Cruise to Nowhere

Since the pandemic happened last year, we can no longer travel out of Singapore from early 2020 so I have been cruising a lot these 2 years. I was with World Dream twice, once in Dec 2020 (3days) and once in April 2021(4 days) this year. And my third cruising was with Royal Caribbean – Quantum of the Seas cruise to nowhere in September 2021 for 5 days.

Now I would like to do some comparison here between these 2 cruise ships. Let’s drill in and check out one by one. Then you can consider which cruise suit you more and cruise with.

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

(RC above, Dream below picture)

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

Royal Caribbean has 2 swab tests, one was conducted 3 days before departure at Raffles City shopping center and one more on the day of departure, at the terminal carpark, called the ART test. Dream only has one swab test on the day of departure at the terminal carpark (ART).  If you have not done the PCR test before, it is slightly more uncomfortable than the ART test.  The thin cotton bud goes very deep into your nostril, almost touches your eyes.  Just kidding.  Anway, the test is done in a split second, just be brave if you want to travel.

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

  • Royal Caribbean allows 2 bottles of wines per stateroom but Dream does not allow alcohol.
  • Royal Caribbean allows you to choose your stateroom, Dream does not allow it.  Choose the mid section if you don’t walk to walk too far, as it is closer to the elevator.  If you want privacy, then you may want to choose the end or the front section of the ship.
  • Internet, Dining, Beverage Packages – Royal Caribbean and Dream offer promotions for these package before departure, you should watch out these promotion and grab some of those.
  • Pricing – the pricing is different at different timing.  Sometimes you get a very good deal so I don’t think I can compare the pricing for these two cruise ships.

I stayed in a Balcony stateroom on both Royal and Dream, the difference in room size is perhaps 20-30 sq. ft. Both can fit up to 2-4 pax.  The space differences aren’t that obvious, Royal Caribbean stateroom has a lot of wardrobes and drawers for guests to unpack and put them inside.  Dream only has one hanging wardrobe and no drawers.  Big drawers are good for smaller things so I prefer RC wardrobe.

Royal Caribbean bathroom does not provide toothbrushes and toothpaste, the shampoo is 3 in 1 for body and hair.  Dream provides toothbrushes, comb, shampoo, conditioner, body soap in small bottles, and body lotion.

Royal Caribbean only provides bottle of water on day 1.  Dream provides bottle of water daily.

Many of the TV programs in RC are charges, if you want to see movies on your tv, you need to purchase them.  Dream has many free tv shows from English to Chinese choices.

Complimentary Restaurants

Food in Royal Caribbean Windjammer are more prone to western food, quite limited to Chinese and our local Singapore food. For example, you can’t find the usual nasi lemak for your breakfast. Having said that, their pastries and bakery cakes are top class in RC. Sorrento in Royal Caribbean has yummy hot pizza freshly baked out from the oven, you must grab the pizza there. Dreams complimentary restaurant at Lido provide buffet style, similar to Windjammer in RC but there are Malay, Chinese, Indian and international section so more of local choices.  You will find mee-goring, curry chicken, and sambal fish from the Malay section. Cereal prawn, prawn paste chicken wings from the Chinese section. Roti Prata from the Indian section.  Roast beef or hotdog from the international section.

The table setting for Windjammer in RC does not provide the Halal corner. In Dream, there is a section for Muslim guests. I didn’t notice if there are any Muslim guests in RC but Dream I saw quite many Muslim guests cruising with us.

Activities highlight

Dream has 6 slides, 5 adult big slides with different kinds of thrill, and one slide for children.  Rock climbing, Rope course and zipline.  All are complementary.  All you need to do is go line up for your turn, no need to book.

RC has rock climbing, flowrider (5-10min) only, ifly (charged and you need to book through Royal apps).  Rock climbing and flowrider are complimentary, all you have to do is go wait in the line for your turn.  No need to book through Royal apps.

Since Dream has 6 slides so many of the guests are being distributed so you don’t feel you wasted a lot of time in the line waiting for your turn.  Furthermore, slides happen in less than 1 min so you can do many times, each slide offers different experiences and views.   The rope course in Dream allows up to 10 guests to go up at one time so more guests are being distributed in this activity.

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

(Dream Rope course above)

RC only has the Flowrider and Rock Climbing (free activities) so many people are waiting in line since there are only 2 activities. RC rock climbing allows up to 3 guests to climb the wall at one time and Flowrider allows 2 guests to surf at one time.  The surfing is only 5-10 mins but the queue is very long and I waited for about an hour.

Other Activities such as dances, yoga, stretching, k-pop, basketball competition, both RC and Dream has similar activities, the only difference is no booking for Dream, you just walk to the venue and it is first come first serve.  While RC, all the activities are conducted in Seaplex only and strictly by booking.  You need to walk to seaplex on day 1 to book all activities in a row for your 5 days sailing, if you are late, there is no slot for you to join any of the activities.  For Dream, they conduct small groups activities in different venues, such as bar, the front of the swimming pool, zouk beach club.  You look at the newsletter daily and just walk to the venue 10 mins before to secure a place, no need to book.  It is first-come first-serve basis.

In Dream, I have attended a few classes which were conducted by the professional acrobatic and dancers from the live shows.  You get up close with the acrobatics and performers from the show.  You will be shocked at how professional and good their bodies are.  You get to see it very closely.  In RC, the professional performers did not get up close with the guests in a smaller group, they don’t mingle in the ground.

Dream only has one outdoor pool section while RC has 3 pool sections.

The booking system for pool in Dream, you go on day 1 and do booking manually for the timing you want to use the pool and jacuzzies.  Each slot is an hour.  You can do booking on the day itself and the next day, not the following day.  Do it manually with the staff and they provide you a paper slip of your timing written on it.  You get to use the pool for one whole hour.

Dream only has one outdoor pool for adults and one for children.

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

(Dream pool above)

There is no booking system in RC for pool usage, you just wait in line and each time about 20 guests can go into the pool for only 10 mins.  I waited for more than half an hour and only get to swim for 10 mins and the lifeguard will call everyone in the pool to come up.  Guests wasted a lot of time waiting in line to get in and only get to use the pool for 10 mins.  Time are wasted on waiting in line.

RC has 3 sections for pools.  The indoor pool and outdoor pool (outdoor, there is one more children pool) and one more, called the Solarium.  The Solarium is the adult pool area, no kids allowed.  Only 18 years of age can go in. Inside you find glass canopy and panoramic views.  The layout in Solarium is quite interesting, beautiful and romantic for couples to chill.  Each section has jacuzzies.

Photographers services

You will find many photographers in RC walking with their big cameras, asking guests if they need to take photos.  You can get the package before departure to enjoy the discount.  If you want some nice family photos and plan every photo session with the photographers, it is worth it.  If you don’t want to sacrifice your activities timing for the photo session, then you can pass this one.  World Dream Cruise does not have photographers’ services.

Both cruises have  3 live shows, both also have a magic show and 2 other fantastic dance musical shows.  The only difference I could think of is Dream hired their performers from Ukraine and they are skilled acrobatics and did a lot of circus stunts. Dream also another show did by Twice as Nice, an American couple coming from Las Vegas singing some oldies songs in English.  The American also sing a Chinese song from Teresa Teng.

RC performances are mostly dancers and singers, not from the acrobatic background, more like the Las Vegas-style of caberets shows.

The performers in both cruises are 5 stars.

Music appreciation in a smaller group

Dream only has the Dazzle Trio which consists of 2 girls and 1 guy who plays the piano, performed daily in a small venue.  Sometimes, there is another Ukraine lady who also performed in the Live show, she sings in a bar but not daily.  If you are lucky, you get to hear her singing in a bar.  Meanwhile, RC has many musical appreciations in smaller venues.  Different band of music groups performed every night after the big live shows.  The musicians in RC play many different types of musical instruments passionately.  You can see drummers, violinists, pianists, guitarists in different bands till midnight.

Target Audiences

Many of the activities in Dreams are conducted in both English and Chinese but RC only uses English to conduct their activities.  For example the music appreciation, RC plays a lot of oldies songs in English but Dazzle Trio from Dream plays a lot of local Chinese, Malay, Cantonese and Hokkien Songs.

The audiences are also slightly different, in Dream, only uncles and aunties go to listen to Dazzle Trio, you can hardly find any young people.  However, the audiences in RC for music appreciation are from young to old.  The audiences in RC are also more sporty and active.  Dream audiences are shyer and keep to themselves and hardly have any responses.

Captian Room

In Dream, you can walk to Deck 15 to check out the captain room, the window panel allows you to see through the captains work in action. You will see how the handsome captains maneuvering the ship and see all the engines and interesting equipment and radar system. RC does not allow guests to view the captain’s room.

The casino in Dream are bigger and have more people gambling as compared to RC.

RC has a whole street called Royal Promenade selling branded and high-end goods while Dream only has a small area selling some duty-free products.

Cruise Ambassador for social distancing

I find Dream has many friendly cruise ambassador and they works together with the Dream crew members in a harmony manner, the cruise ambassador even helped out the crew in making sure the queue lines are in order and helped to ask how many people you need for the table when you are queuing for seats in the restaurant.  There are times that I thought they are crew members for Dream.  They are smiling, very polite and friendly and mingle well with the Dream crew member.

I didn’t notice many cruise ambassadors walking around in RC but only a few, they don’t seem to work closely with RC crew members. The cruise ambassador in RC are like police trying to catch thief. You feel the tension between the 2 groups of people.  That’s how I felt when I saw the RC cruise ambassador walking around the ship.  I even heard the gym staff saying that they can’t allow me to enter because once they were being caught by the cruise ambassador, the ship will be stopped from sailing for few weeks.  It happened to RC before.  So I made the conclusion that the cruise ambassador and crew didn’t have a good working relationship.

The services in RC are more polite and greeted guests very often once they see you passing by.  You will notice the staff in the restaurants are super friendly and polite too.  They even mentioned their name before they started to serve you.  On some tables, you will see the name of the staff who serve you.

This is because their performances are being measured.  Once I was back from the cruise, there is a questionnaire asking me all the things in RC cruise and rate them.  You can mention the name of the staff who gives you excellent services in the questionnaire.

I didn’t have any feedback requests from Dream.

Other differences

  • RC has the Bionic Bar, 2 robotic bartenders who serve you the cocktails you ordered.

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

  • RC allows you to purchase the unlimited dining package before onboard, so you can enjoy your fine dining experiences in specialty restaurants.  Dream does not have an unlimited dining package.  If you could get the unlimited dining package, go get it, it is worth the money.

  • RC has the Art gallery hall selling paintings, Art appreciation talks by Park West Group, and painting auctions.  Dream does not have art gallery and no art appreciation and auction.
  • The wifi and Beverage package are cheaper in Dream

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

(RC gym above, Dream gym below)

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

  • The gym in RC is a lot more bigger than in Dream.  Also, guests in RC are more into working out as compared to Dream.
  • Running track in RC is bigger and longer than Dream, also you see many guests wake up before sunrise running on the track.  I didn’t see anyone running in Dream cruise.

  • Majong tables in Dream, no majong table in RC

  • Dream has a big chest game and mini-golf outdoor near the basketball court

Royal Caribbean (Quantum of the Seas) vs World Dream Cruise - Cruise to Nowhere

  • Dream has a Lazer show at night and it lasts for 10 mins.

Final thoughts:

If you asked me which one I prefer? Well, it is hard to choose because they are strengths and weaknesses for both cruise ships.  The booking system in RC is less organized as compared to Dream, for example, Dream allows guests to do the booking for the pool for an hour and it is a great system because guests don’t waste time waiting in line to get in the pool.  It is cold especially when you are wet and standing for half an hour just to get in the pool or jacuzzies. Furthermore, the pool time and jacuzzies time is only 10 mins for RC, once the time is up, the lifeguard will call the whole batch in the pool to come up.  Frustrating to be honest, because you have not even properly warmed up your swim.

With the booking system in place, Dream allows its guests to enjoy an hour of pool and jacuzzies. That way, guests can truly relax during the one-hour swim and jacuzzies time.  Also, guests do not waste time and can plan their activities more effectively.  I prefer Dream booking system and they are certainly more organized in this manner.  Furthermore, Dream provides you with a paper slip so you don’t forget your timing for your booking.  RC doesn’t provide a paper slip on the booking timing to their guests.  Older guest like me has forgotten the timing and have to go back to them and asked.

For activities-wise, I felt Dream has more activities conducted in a smaller group in many different venues.  Guests are all being distributed in different areas.  Unlike RC, they only conducted activities in Seaplex.  Furthermore, Seaplex is an indoor hall so the number of guests are strictly limited, especially due to covid situation.  Dream has a huge outdoor basketball court where they can conduct some smaller group activities in one corner and still allowing the guys to play basketball at the same time.  If you asked me who offers more activities, I have to say Dream offer more activities at one time, you just look at the newsletter and attend.  If you go 10 min early, you will secure a place for the activity.  In shorts, Dream wisely distributed all their guests, and you don’t feel like waiting in line at all.  Slides, you don’t need to queue too long because it doesn’t take too much time to slide down from the top.  Furthermore, Dream has up to 6 slides to play with.  In additional to that, the Rope course, about 10 guests can go up at one time.  RC flowrider only allows 2 guests at one time and the duration is about 5-10 min.

I also find there are more charged items in RC, such as ifly, North Star, movie shows on your tv in your staterooms.  Also, if you want a private session for Flowrider, you can book a private session which costs a few hundred dollars for half an hour to an hour time.  You also find photographers walking around asking if you need photos.  As for Dream, they don’t have many charged items for the activities.

The last conclusion, Dream targets Chinese-speaking background guests and many of their regular guests are the uncles and aunties.  So the songs they sing are more Chinese oldies.  The guests in RC are mostly from English-speaking backgrounds, more westernized, including the food choice.  Also, the announcement are in English only.

I hope my comparison between RC and Dream does not confuse you too much.  Enjoy your cruise holiday.

The Ultimate Cruise to Nowhere review: Royal Caribbean Cruise Vs Dream Cruises

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

If you could only pick one cruise-to-nowhere getaway, it’d be…

View from the World Dream Stateroom - Cruise to Nowhere Review

In Dec 2020 when Cruises to Nowhere had just begun, we got to experience Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas .

On that post, someone asked:

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

So this one’s for David, as well as those who can’t decide which cruise to go for — Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas ? Or Dream Cruises’ World Dream ?

In this Cruise to Nowhere review, we’re breaking down each cruise line’s accommodation, food and activities (including shows) to give you a fair comparison of both cruises.

Covid-19 tests and Pre-boarding Process

Swab Test Area - Cruise to Nowhere

Swab tests are now compulsory on both cruises with slight logistical differences. The good thing is COVID-19 tests are included in your cruise package for both cruise lines.

Royal Caribbean

On Royal Caribbean cruises, you’re required to take a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test at Raffles Convention Centre 72 hours before boarding.

We took ours two days before the cruise and received our results the next day. The process was really quick and straightforward so we were in and out within 15 minutes.

At the end of the cruise, you’ll be given one final swab — there’s no need to wait for results this time and the swab doesn’t go in as deep as the pre-boarding test.

Dream Cruises

For Dream Cruises, an Antigen Rapid Test (ART) will be administered on the day of boarding. A pre-assigned time slot will be printed on your ticket so you just need to show up. Test results will be ready after 20 minutes to an hour.

Our experience through the testing area was quick and smooth too. The whole process was very organised and the only significant waiting time we had between stations was waiting for our results.

Although not as accurate as the PCR test, the ART is a lot less invasive! Instead of the swab going all the way in, it only scrapes the walls of your nose.

Same as Royal Caribbean, you’ll be swabbed one final time upon disembarkation but there’s no need to wait for results before leaving the cruise centre.

Cruise Accommodation

The two cruises offer similar accommodation types from staterooms to grand suites.

The balcony staterooms are pretty similar and are perfect for two.

The only difference between these two rooms is the bathroom. Dream Cruises’ comes with a double sink and a wider shower area — great for families with kids.

For an elevated experience, book a suite for extra perks and access to experiences.

We personally got to experience Dream Cruises’ Palace Suite . Although it’s the cheapest class in the Palace Suite, the perks you get outside the room do give you a nice feeling of being taken care of.

Perks include butler service, a basic drink package (coffee, tea and juices) and complimentary dining at all speciality restaurants. Palace residents also get full access to all the private facilities — from a separate pool area to 24-hour dining at the Palace Restaurant!

Junior Suite Royal Caribbean - Cruise to Nowhere

A comparable room on Royal Caribbean is the Junior Suite. The interior is pretty similar — with space for the room, balcony and bathroom. However, in terms of the suite experience, the Junior Suite is more similar to a bigger balcony stateroom than a suite.

Apart from extra room, WiFi, the Deluxe drink package and access to specialty dining are excluded.

If you’re going for a low range suite experience, then Dream Cruises gives you more bang for your buck!

Dream Cruises’ Palace Suite: From S$630/pax for two nights Royal Caribbean’s Junior Suite (Large Balcony): From S$769/pax for three nights

If “go big or go home” is what you live by, here’s the ultimate experience on each ship:

Royal Caribbean’s Grand Loft Suite is the second highest class and comes with a mezzanine! The suite also fits a king-sized bed, two bathrooms, a spacious living area and an  equally  spacious balcony.

Apart from complimentary access to all  speciality dining experiences , staying at the Grand Loft Suite also includes the Deluxe drinks package which means free-flow drinks all day — alcoholic beverages included! But the best part is that you’re assigned a Royal Genie (personal butler) who will help you with bookings and customise the experience so you have a memorable one on the ship ✨

Dream Cruises’ equivalent is the Palace Penthouse. Unlike the Palace Suite, it features a separate living-cum-dining area, with a private step-out balcony. The space can hold up to six guests.

Dream Cruises’ Palace Penthouse: From ~S$786.30/pax for three nights Royal Caribbean’s Grand Loft Suite: From S$744/pax for three nights

For the ultimate experience, here’s what you can expect from the most luxurious rooms of each ship:

Dream Palace Villa - World Dream Cruise

Dream Cruises’ Palace Villa is the epitome of luxurious living with two bedrooms, a dining room, a living room, a jacuzzi and three bathrooms. This suite is so big, it can accommodate up to eight people!

Dream Palace Villa - World Dream Cruise

On top of the Palace privileges, you’ll be even more spoilt with round-the-clock butler service, and priority access to shows.

Royal Caribbean Royal Loft Suite with Balcony - Cruise to Nowhere

Royal Caribbean’s most luxurious suite is their Royal Loft Suite. It doesn’t have multiple bedrooms like Dream Cruises’ Palace Villa, but it boasts a spacious two-floor contemporary design perfect for parties of six. These suites are either located at the front or the back of the ship for utmost privacy.

Upon checking in, you’ll be welcomed with Moët and Chandon in the room. Epic room aside, you also have complimentary dining at specialty restaurants, all-day free-flow drinks and a Royal Genie at your every beck and call!

Girl Eating Breakfast - Cruise to Nowhere Review

Breakfast at Dream Cruises’ Palace Restaurant

For foodies, a cruise is the best place to be! From glorious buffet spreads to high-end speciality dining experiences, both cruises boast an array of dining experiences. Here’s how they compare.

Complimentary Dining Experiences

Royal Caribbean’s Windjammer and Dream Cruises’ Lido are where you get an all-you-can-eat buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. These buffet options are open to all guests (regardless of room class).

Windjammer Royal Caribbean Buffet - Cruise to Nowhere Review

In terms of size and variety, Windjammer takes the cake — serving a wide range from burgers to tacos and even vegetarian and gluten-free options! Lido seems quite limited in comparison, but they serve more fried foods and Asian cuisines.

The Lido Buffet Queue - Cruise to Nowhere Review

There may be fewer options on Dream Cruises’ Lido but a plus point is that the menu switches up during Themed Night Dinners. On their recent Thai-themed cruise , the buffet spread included popular Thai dishes like Pad Thai, Wok-Fried Crab in Thai Curry and Steamed Barramundi Fish with Lime Juice!

For complimentary dining options, Royal Caribbean has a much better selection. Apart from the buffet, they have four main dining rooms: Sorrento’s pizza, Dog House’s crafted hot dogs, as well as sandwiches and soups at Two70. Dream Cruises only has Lido and two other main dining rooms for complementary options.

Specialty Dining Experiences

Specialty dining requires a top-up if you’re not a suite guest.

For Dream Cruises, speciality dining works on an ala carte basis where you’ll need credits to spend on dining. Purchase these credits onboard, with up to 20% off dining credits when bought on embarkation day!

On Royal Caribbean, you just pay a one-time fee and eat as much as you want — basically paying for a reservation.

Although both cruises have a steakhouse, Dream Cruises serves more Asian cuisine with Korean BBQ, hotpot and Teppanyaki.

Umi Uma Teppanyaki

Something special on Royal Caribbean is their novel dining experiences like Jamie’s Italian ala carte buffet and Wonderland’s molecular gastronomy.

If food experience is a priority when you travel, we’d say go for Royal Caribbean’s cruise.

Places to Chill On Board

Main pool deck - Genting World Dream Cruise to Nowhere

Dream Cruises Public Pool

There are pools and jacuzzis on both cruises which you’ll have to get a timeslot for. However, the booking systems on Royal Caribbean and Dream Cruises are completely different.

On Dream Cruises, you’ll need to make a physical reservation at the pool itself to get a slot sometime in the day. Whereas Royal Caribbean works on a first-come-first-serve basis with lifeguards limiting and controlling the numbers.

*Pro-tip: Head to the pool first thing in the morning for both cruises to beat the queue.

One perk about cruising with Royal Caribbean is having a kid-free escape like The Solarium, an adult-only pool.

Dream Cruises doesn’t have this for the general public, but if you’re a Palace guest, you’ll have exclusive access to their private pool area at the top of the deck — reservations are required.

For a nice break from the busyness, take a seven-minute ride on Royal Caribbean’s North Star (top-up is ~S$15.90 or free for suite guests). This observation deck takes you 300 feet above sea level, offering mad views of the endless horizon and a birds-eye view of the cruise below.

Private Sun Deck For VIP Members - Dream Cruise Palace

Alternatively, both cruises have deck chairs all around that face the ocean. It’s still a great view nonetheless, especially during sunset.

Dream Cruises’ Faith Show

For me, a huge part of the cruise experience is late-night entertainment. If you’re looking to have your mind blown with multitalented performances, Dream Cruises’ acts are definitely where it’s at. With stunning acrobatic acts and quirky dance numbers, I was thoroughly entertained throughout.

Dream Boys Adult Show - Cruise to Nowhere Review

Dream Cruises also hosts a special show — Dream Boys (only for those 18 and above)! It’s basically their version of Magic Mike, featuring beautiful men and raunchy dance moves, with sprinkles of comedy throughout. The show costs S$50, which is a steal compared to Magic Mike Shows in London (~S$146.38).

Fun fact: These performers have multiple roles on the ship — Muay Thai instructor in the day, Dream Boy by night!

Violin two70 show - Royal Caribbean Cruise

Royal Caribbean’s Two70 Violin act

Royal Caribbean’s Two70 showcases are a great way to just unwind. Enjoy world-class music performances and mind-boggling magic shows before calling it a night.

Drink Packages for Three-Night Cruise

For some of us, drinks are a crucial part of the Cruise To Nowhere experience — yes, we get it. If that’s the case for you, Royal Caribbean is definitely where you can drink your money’s worth. The Deluxe package at S$163 for a three-night cruise includes all beverages including cocktails, beer, wines and non-alcoholic beverages (basically anything under $12).

Dream Cruises’ full drink package on the other hand only has free flow coffee, tea, juices, and soft drinks. Alcoholic beverages are only free-flow between 5–7PM.

Royal Caribbean Vs Dream Cruises — Which Cruise to Nowhere Would You Pick?

Royal Caribbean’s Solarium, an adult-only pool

Here’s our take:

Rooms — The rooms on Dream Cruises’ World Dream are generally more affordable than Royal Caribbean for a similar room size. However, if you’re going for the ultimate luxury experience, Royal Caribbean takes the win.

Entertainment — This is a tough fight. Both ships have more than enough options to keep you entertained on a three-night cruise. If you’re going for more extremes, you’ll appreciate Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas for its Flowrider and iFly.

Dream Cruises’ World Dream has its epic water slides and more options when it comes to shows and classes. Of course, the star of the show here is the Dream Boys — if that’s your thing.

Dining — If you’re a real foodie, we’d go with Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas for this one.

Cruises are basically our only chance to get away from Singapore for now. And the good thing is cruises do make you feel like you’re overseas! So whichever Cruise to Nowhere you end up with — whether it’s Dream Cruises or Royal Caribbean — you’re bound to have a good immersive break, until travel resumes once again!

We hope this Cruise Comparison was helpful — if you’ve experienced both Cruises to Nowhere, let us know which you prefer in the comment section below!

An update for you , you don’t have to make reservation for accessing the pool now.

thanks for sharing!

I recently took a cruise on Royal Caribbean and it was amazing! The service was great and the ship was very clean. Dream Cruises, on the other hand, was not as great. The service was not as good and the ship was

The ultimate comparison guide for Singapore’s Cruises To Nowhere

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

That travel itch isn’t going away anytime soon, and staycations , being literally just Netflix n’ Chill + atas amenities, barely helps to make it better. So, the idea of splurging on a cruise has probably crossed your mind.

For now, the only companies offering Cruises To Nowhere are Royal Caribbean International and Genting Cruise Lines’ Dream Cruise . But with so many factors to consider, the thought of them may be enough to off-put you from your plans.

To make things easier, we’ve done the homework for you. From prices, room amenities to even activities onboard, we’ve broken down the details into bite-sized pieces for you.

Price of Cruises to Nowhere

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

For comparison purposes, we’ll use the lowest rate offered for June. However, take note that Royal Caribbean is offering 50% off cruise fares when you make your booking from now till 3 May 2021 . Kids who are under 12 years old will get to cruise for free.

The table below shows the price per person, non-inclusive of taxes, fees and port expenses.

*Prices reflected for Royal Caribbean’s rooms are after discount.

Accommodation for Cruises to Nowhere

Finally travelling “out of the country” will be an exhilarating experience, but it fits no purpose if you’re stuck in an uncomfortable room. Here are what the rooms look like, so you’ll be able to find accommodation suited for you.

Quantum of the Seas

Interior stateroom.

Cruise to nowhere 1

For those who are leaning towards Royal Caribbean, you’ll be siked to know that you’ll be travelling on board their newest ship, the Quantum of the Seas .

Even if the basic Interior Stateroom is all you can afford, you’ll be glad to know that they come with a “Virtual Balcony” —  a high-definition 80-inch screen that’s connected to a live camera outside the ship, so you can enjoy the same sights and sounds like someone with a Balcony or Ocean View room.

There’s also an ensuite bathroom and a one-seater sofa. We reckon that this room is perfect for those who’ll be spending most of their time outside .

Cruise to nowhere 2

You’ll get to see the actual sea in the Ocean View Room. Besides getting an unobstructed view of the ocean, you’ll also have an extra sofa to laze on. The room also comes with an ensuite bathroom, toiletries and an in-built wardrobe.

Waking up to the smell of sea breeze with the wind gently caressing your face may be the stuff of dreams, but if you decide on the Balcony Room , it might just become reality.

The room features a private deck complete with a cinematic view of the ocean, and there’s a table and chairs to relax and enjoy a cuppa joe. In addition to the extra space, there’s a sofa which serves as an additional spot for snacking or playing games .

It’s go big or go home for some of us, and perhaps the Suite will be worth going big for. This luxurious two-storey room comes equipped with a living room, dining area and spacious bathroom, so you won’t have a chance to miss home. There’s also a recliner chair for those who want to bathe in the sun.

On the second level, there’s a loft enclosed with privacy curtains. A vanity table is also provided so that you can be picture perfect for the ‘gram .

World Dream

Cruise to nowhere 3

Dream Cruise’s accommodation selection may be limited, but their rooms don’t fall short. The Balcony Room holds a private deck, along with lounge chairs for you to chill out and soak in the views.

The place also comes with a queen-sized bed, sofa bed and an ensuite bathroom, so there’s ample space for everyone.

Palace Suite

Cruise to nowhere 4

This space is titled the Palace Suite and it is truly fit for a king. Over here, the bed is cleverly positioned for you to enjoy the view of the sky, sea and horizon. Coupled with Italian luxury lines and downy duvets, you’ll definitely have a good night’s sleep.

In the bathroom, you’ll find luxury bathrobes and slippers, along with premium towels and toiletries. To complete the package, there’s a personalised mini-bar with a Nespresso coffee machine and a complimentary red or white wine of your choice.

P.S, a 24-hour butler service is also available.

Activities onboard Singapore Cruises To Nowhere

Cruise to nowhere 5

The North Star is part amusement park ride, part viewing platform — think Singapore Flyer. This mechanical arm will elevate you high above the ship for an unrivalled 360-degree view, 90 metres above sea level. Currently, the Noth Star holds the Guinness World Record for the tallest viewing deck on a cruise ship.

Bumper cars

Cruise to nowhere 6

No matter your age, bumper cars will always unleash the kid in you . Besides this adrenaline-pumping activity, there are other family-friendly options such as ice-skating, rollerskating , laser tag, rock-climbing and even bungee jumping.

Skydiving simulator

Cruise to nowhere 7

Skydiving may be on some of our bucket lists, but if that dream seems too far-fetched, you can always try your hand at iFly, the skydiving simulator on board the Royal Caribbean. With no ground beneath your feet, you can float weightlessly in the air and experience freefalling.

Cruise to nowhere 8

This one’s for the alcoholics. Though there are other places to get yourself a drink, it’s a once in a lifetime experience to head to the Bionic Bar and be served by actual robots. Simply type your order into the tablet and watch the robotic arms mix your libation of choice.

16 entertainment decks

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

It’ll be an irony if we’re on the waters but never in the waters. On Quantum of the Seas, there are 16 entertainment decks , including a top deck featuring a solarium for adults, an outdoor pool, a new indoor pool with a roof system and an H2O Zone kids’ aqua park. There’s also a surf simulator, a rock-climbing wall measuring 40ft above the deck, a spa, a casino, and an outdoor movie screen.

Waterslide Park

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

For daredevils, you’ll have a whirl of a time at the Waterslide Park . The slides feature heart-racing steep inclines that will put bravehearts to the test, but if you’re more of a fraidy-cat, there are easy-going chutes as well.

Cosmic bowling

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

We still can’t go to clubs, but with Genting Dream’s Cosmic Bowling alley, you’ll be surrounded by pulsating glow pins, neon balls and ultraviolet lights. Amped up music will play classic favourites, so you’ll also get to groove to the beat.

Rock-climbing wall

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

There are gyms available on deck, but for some real action, challenge your family and friends at this energy-burning rock-climbing wall . This attraction scales 24ft, so once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with views for dayyyys .

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Golfing is usually associated with a rich man’s sport, so what better way to live the high life than putting your way through a nine-hole course, while on a cruise? Not to worry even if you’ve never golfed before, the course is beginner-friendly, so you’ll have a ball of a time.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Arcades were a great time for the people born in the 90’s. The Dance Dance Revolution and Para Para machines were always the crowd’s favourite. Over here, you’ll get to battle your friends and family and finally decide on who’s the best dancer of all.

Dining for Cruises to Nowhere

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Some of us live for food and may be apprehensive of the available food options. After all, you’re to live in a confined space for days. But on Quantum of the Seas, you’ll have 17 dining options to choose from, so you’ll be spoilt or choice.

The ones to note are Cafe Promenade , a 24-hour establishment that’ll satisfy your late-night cravings , Dog House , where you can pile your hotdog with your favourite toppings and Sorrento’s , an authentic New York-style pizzeria experience with traditional pizzas.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Onboard the World Dream, there are three all-inclusive restaurants, one 24-hour snack bar and 15 other cafes and restaurants. Incessantly looking at the ocean waves may have gotten you thinking about HaiDiLao’s boiling soup, so when you find yourself craving for hotpot when onboard the Cruises to Nowhere, you can visit Hot Pot, a buffet situated on the outdoor deck.

Included in the cruise fare are meals at the Genting and Dream dining rooms, The Lido buffet and the World Grill, with the remaining being additional charge venues.

Want to know which one is better in terms of experience and entertainment. Purpose: Honeymoon.

2. Should I book a cabin with balcony or without balcony ocean room?

Considerations are how much time will we spend in the room, Is the balcony really worth it?

' class=

Our Palace suite room is on the deck 13. There is no deck 14. Above the Palace suite room is deck 15 "Crystal Life FITNESS" which I attached the floor plan and photo.

1st night. 5am in the morning, We were bombed by loud sound above and shaken us the whole early morning to wake up. The sound and feeling is like being PUNCHED very hard in the chest as we enclosed in the metal cubical room. The next day, we talk to the butler service and he take note.

2nd night, 230am, we again were disturbed by the loud bang which I guess the weights or dumb bell drop to the floor at deck 15 in the fitness gym. I called up the receptionist, Ms Suan answer the call and told me the fitness gym is closed at 1am. Than she send housekeeping staff to my room to check.

The housekeeping staff came, I invited him to the room, the staff was in the room for about 5mins. The staff experience himself the banging noise from deck 15, which he admitted it is from the fitness gym. There might b staff using the gym as the 4000guest are deny entry after 1am.

I paid for my family to enjoy Palace suite room to have quality time togather, we have child n pregnant daughter to go thru horror night sleep.

So my advice to top Guest paying top $ to AVOID Palace suite 13002 to Palace suite 13020. Afternoon nap is as bad bcos some of 4000 guest will drop the weight/dumb bell onto the floor to wake u up in that stretch area. Good mental and good night peaceful sleep is important. Pls consider..................

The rest of other area, we have the VIP access. These are the truth of 2nights stay in Genting Dream Cruise my 7 members of the family experience.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

For entertainment...go for Royal

For food....go for Dream

Balcony rooms are great but you will only spend a short time there as most of the time you will be inside. We got the balcony, it was great but we hardly used it.

1. Management : GD should improve their management of onshore excursion. During the 1st stop to Pulau Redang, we had to wait more than 1 hour in the theatre to board the shuttle boat. Obviously there were not enough of such shuttle boats for the probably unexpected big crowd. Coming back to the ship was even worse with a long queue at the pier. Tensions were high as many of our Asian neighbours did not strictly follow a queuing etiquette. There were not enough staff to manage the crowd nor proper queue railings. Many families cut queue on the rationale of having elderly members, babies-in-tow or members with weak health. Our onshore excursion to Phuket with RC last year was much more enjoyable with cold drinks and towels prepared well in advance by the experienced crew. However, I must add that GD learn fast as the 2nd excursion to Koh Samui has no queue in comparison. Coming back was also much better managed with impromptu queue railings at the pier. However, I like the "Asian" culture on GD whereby we as customers get to appreciate and give thanks to the crew of 1830 who worked hard behind the scenes before the last evening show to serve more than 4000 demanding guests on board. Only in this session did we finally see who our ship captain was. In RC, the ship captain was determined to make himself seen, heard and sensed, similar to a rock star.

2. Food. What I like about GD was that they offer a choice of Western or Chinese set menu which changes every day. It is indeed a refreshing change from the buffet food at RC which is mostly western and not so delicious. However, the food quality on my GD cruise can be improved. For example, I regret choosing Chinese on my last dinner due to the lure of chili crab but the sauce tastes like Sin Sin chili sauce whereas the smallish crab is not fresh. My 2 sons who chose Western were more satisfied with their Sirloin beefsteaks. There is no Cappuccino, espresso, latte nor long black but just plain coffee on GD. Tea is just Lipton, no Earl Grey, English Breakfast or Jasmine. I am ok with this but I suspect other caffeine addicted passengers the Cappuccino or espresso on RC.

3. Entertainment & Activities. The swimming pool on GD is pathetic. If you don't mind legs kicking your ribs, then it's ok as it is too small. RC has a games room whereby a team of experienced crew organized many types of sports or games to keep the children engaged. There is even a teenager room where parents are not allowed whereby my teenage son Raymond likes to hang out with his new found international friends. In fact, the only time we see him was during breakfast and when he came back to sleep. GD has none of these. The rope course was challenging especially with the flying fox but after 1 go, it is enough. RC has iFly and Flowrider surf simulator, hard to beat. When I hurt my leg with a bad fall, I was surprised there was no cost for my 3 visits to see the caring doctor on RC. I read that on GD, visits to the doctor includes a "minimal charge", not sure what it means. The evening shows on RC were world class with excellent dancers whereas only the show on the last evening on GD comes close. Lastly, cost of add-ons were much cheaper on GD than on RC. For example, popcorn was S$2 per cup whereas I recall about S$4 on RC. My 10 year old son Jerry enjoyed the fresh and reasonably priced popcorn very much.

4. Rooms. For this I guess it depends on how much you are willing to pay. However, dollar by dollar, I believe you can get a better deal on GD than on RC. We had 2 balcony state rooms on level 9 on GD which were much better than the 1 cabin which all 4 of us squeezed in last year on level 3 on RC. In comparison, the cost was not much more.

All in all, my family enjoyed both cruises and were always comparing the pros and cons of each cruise company. As my 14 year old son Raymond said, it would be ideal to have the pros of both cruises combined together to provide the best possible experience for the passengers. I challenged him to come up with the company to deliver this but I know it will be very difficult. However, when there is a will, there is a way.

Jason Ng - Singaporean

* Pay more but get less (compared with RC - Royal Caribbean). My 3D/2N cruise trip costs more than RC 4D/3N trip.

* Feel DC mgmt policy is to maximize profits - so you have to pay for a lot of things.

e.g. foam party - pay. Yoga & Pilates classes - pay.

* Most eating places - you pay except for only 3-4 places that you can eat for free without extra charges. But eating places area is small (bigger areas allocated to casino & slot machines' area) - again to maximize profits that you be prepared for poor dining experiences - long queues.

* At one of the free Chinese Restaurant as well as International Buffet (on level 8), very long waiting time. At 6:30pm, went to reserve and told table available only at 8:50-9 pm. What a let-down!

* Ate lunch at one of the Chinese place after we reserved early - very few waiters serving many tables. Service is terribly slow & we had to wait awhile for plain rice when all dishes arrived. Waited a long while requesting for hot tea to be refilled. Waited very long (20+ mins) for the grass-jelly dessert - despite repeated ask.Staff trying their best but when management policy is maximum profit, you get minimal staff strength and attention.

* At Lido (free buffet place), you can only eat once and there is no late supper or afternoon tea slot. The place is very crowded, queues are long for coffee/tea; sugar sachets not replenished; can't even get a fork at cutlery station; nasi-lemak hard-boiled egg and sambal chilli empty and not replenished for a long while; very lean staff and they are very busy & working hard but simply cannot cope with the crowd.

In short, dropped the idea of their cruise ship being new as the value proposition.

The customer experience sucks despite paying more; and I won't recommend this to anyone looking for a cruise holiday. In fact, I would steer people towards RC - the customer experience is much better and you pay less!

Pls help me to choose

Anyone who travelled GD or RC recently kindly share your Feedback

' class=

Food on RC is just really good . International standard . So are the shows, Broadway production standard .

I think just eating the amount of imported food is worth the price .

Have only tried Virgo before , it’s ok . Maybe dream is more luxury, not sure .

' class=

As I knew I won't be going on cruises often, I paid extra for balcony class and felt it was worth, even if there isn't a hell lot of time spent in the room. It is nice to spend a couple of yours in the balcony hearing (& smelling) the sea, watching other ships and the islands that we pass.

Starting with checking in. A more than one hour long unorganised process with massive bulk of people, moving from waiting area to waiting area at the Genting Dream while on RC a smooth and professional process that brought us onto the boat within 15 mins. Upon checking out likewise. Flocking people to ensure long waiting queues while with RC a smooth process to just leave on your own leisure.

Cabins in both ships are nice, especially with the comparatively new Genting Dream , however, vacuum cleaning should happen regularly. The cabin service point clearly goes to RC as well.

Foodwise there is no comparison. In RC you have the open dining concept and you can move from restaurant to restaurant to try out the menus. Doing it on Genting Dream makes you pay a lot. You want to go to another restaurant during the same dining period costs you 15 SGD/person extra!!! The food quality is also far apart from each other. Genting dream is quite basic while in RC you have quality food served by quality staff.

Entertainment is also very basic apart for casino friends who find three floors of slot machines on Genting dream and only half a floor traditionally on RC ships. Shows at RC are of international standards, at Genting basic!

Guests on board of Genting Dream at my cruise were approx 70 % Indian origin with the disadvantage of these people appear in groups of ten and more people and obviously have the opinion that the ship is theirs with regards to noises made, aisles blocked, etc. The poolarea was completely occupied by them.

Summary: Taking Genting Dream is an experience of a lifetime that could also easily be missed. Once yes, twice for sure not!

Dream Cruise vs Royal Caribbean: Which Is Your Perfect Cruise?

avatar-name

Siti Ayeeshah Zaki  •  Jun 07, 2023

The 2023 school holidays are just around the corner! Excitement and family time await. While some of you might not want to go overseas for your family fun time, you can still get a taste of travel with a cruise to nowhere. HHWT has discovered two amazing cruises you’ll love: Dream Cruise’s World Dream Cruise & Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of The Seas Cruise. Now all you have to do is pick the ship that suits your family most!

Cruises to nowhere: Dream Cruise or Royal Caribbean?

Dream cruises.

Sunbathe to the view of an endless ocean from a private balcony! With interconnecting room options, get easy access to your family members ? P.S. If you’re a family of 4, opt for 2 rooms instead of one. That way you don’t have to squeeze into a single cabin - and it’s almost the same price per person!

Alternatively, The Palace Suites has panoramic views of the sky and sea. You can enjoy these gorgeous sights from your own private balcony or queen sized bed! Stay in luxury with a 24-hour butler concierge service, walk-in closet, luxury bathroom with full bathtub and more.

Royal Caribbean

While Dream Cruises’ rooms sound delightful, wait till you see Royal Caribbean’s rooms. Royal Caribbean has an Interior and Oceanview Stateroom. They’re both furnished with two twin beds that convert to a Royal King, a private bathroom and a vanity area! Their Oceanview Stateroom faces the sea so you can gaze out into the sea any time you please.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Alternatively, cruise to nowhere in style with their Balcony Rooms and Suites. They come with a full bathroom and private balcony! If you’ve got a big family, however, try the Suites. With larger private balconies, a concierge service, in-room meals and dedicated entertainment seating, you’ll be travelling in absolute comfort! So which is best for your family? Well, if you’re looking for a simple stay, perhaps the Royal Caribbean is the one for you! Choose their staterooms to rest quietly and simply. However, if you’re travelling with your entire family and need more space, Dream World’s Palace Suites might be the better option ?

2. Halal Food

World Dream is home to 2 halal dining eateries! Their Dream Dining Room is home to menus that change daily, you’ll never be bored of the food ? They also have an extensive selection of beverages for you to quench your thirst after a full day of fun.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Fill your tummies at The Lido! This halal buffet is a day-long bonanza - serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. With delicious international cuisines and dozens of sweet treats, The Lido is perfect for the ever-hungry. While the eatery is not halal-certified because they serve alcohol, the buffet uses halal ingredients and is incredibly Muslim-friendly. You can also enjoy amazing food at the designated Halal & Vegetarian Section which will provide you with a variety of dining options! ?P.S. The Halal section is prepared by Muslim staff. Want to know which one is better in terms of experience and entertainment. Purpose: Honeymoon.

2. Should I book a cabin with balcony or without balcony ocean room?

Considerations are how much time will we spend in the room, Is the balcony really worth it?

' class=

1/ Royal Caribbean

2/ Balcony room is worth every penny

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Balcony every time. Inside room is like a prison cell,

There is a dedicated cruise forum https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowForum-g1-i10703-Cruises.html

But cruisecritic is better ( also owned by Tripadvisor)

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

The balcony is nicer but whether you are spending enough time in your room to use it is dependent on you. Usually balcony classes get priority for boarding and disembarking.

' class=

In my previous trip with RC, the crowd during mealtime could be a turnoff, as well as queue for various activities onboard, and getting a nice located sun bed in common area is also an issue. I would think that it is more of a family gathering than romantic. But then again I was very impressed with the decor and meal of the main dining room on mariner of the sea, makes me think of titanic when I first enter (wow), but I'm more happy with the various activities like flight simulator, surf simulator, bumper car and rock climbing on ovation of the sea, my 5 cruising days are never bored. So, if u prefer titanic like decor with older design u can go for mariner, for new trendy with more activities go for ovation. ( only 1 sailing in Apr 2018 thou, sadly)

After I fall in love with cruising but ovation not here in sg, I was delighted to hear that dream cruise is sailing in Singapore coming nov 2017, and after my research, I would like to recommend u going for dream suite onboard dream cruise (which I have also booked myself on nov, can't wait! ) as I think that it might be suitable as honeymoon. The reason is that I was delighted to find that suite guest on dream cruise has their own private area which includes Swimming pool, lounges, restaurants etc, their 'ship within ship' concept, so u will able to get your nice cosy area in private carbana, ask your butler ( every suite guest gets their own butler!) for a nice glass of wine ( and it's complimentary!) while love birds can cuddle away watching sunset (how romantic) well, this is what I imagined it to be after i decided to book a suite room instead of just getting a balcony (which is double the price *heart bleed abit* but the thought of free flow alcohol makes up for it) there is promo now for nov sailing with free upgrade to next category room.

So basically, when I compare balcony room of both mariner of the sea and dream cruise , nov sailing seems quite comparable, suite room mariner is cheaper but no use getting junior suite on mariner of the sea, only bigger room.

Other factor u need to consider when booking cruise is:

Wifi - it cost me more than 10 bucks per day on mariner of the sea, not sure how much dream cruise (suite guest gets free)

Beverage packages - ard $8 for soda package and I think $70+ for alcoholic drink packages on mariner per day, suite guest gets free selected alcoholic drink onboard dream cruise ! (Can go wild partying in zouk onboard dream cruise !)

Specialty dining restaurant- restaurant that are less crowded because u need to pay to eat, I didn't go to any on mariner of the sea so I have to squeeze the crowd and Q Everyday, suite guest onboard dream cruise get 1 free dining on selected specialty restaurant per day

So in conclusion, if you ask me which cruise is better, I would say Genting dream suite room for honeymoon. The extra perks that was thrown in makes it very worthy, get the nov sailing 4N, if not the gastronomical one in Jan 2018, the dream suite price is cheapest for these 2 dates. Royal Caribbean is well known as family cruise and I wouldn't really think it is romantic (except when watching sunset in main dining room, that is u have to be very lucky to get a window seat too)

If u really tight on Budget, wait for promotion in royal Caribbean, the price often fluctuate and sign a membership, I board ovation with a free $200 credit voucher in USD for my second sailing which I got in special promo period, useful to offset gratuity fee.

If u really like royal Caribbean and have the Budget (which I do for ovation of the sea only), u can consider fly to Hong Kong and sail to Okinawa, my next goal is save up enough for their loft bedroom!

Hopefully this helps and have a nice honeymoon trip!

Reply please

>>3) they also have a rule saying that if u visit more than 1 inclusive restuarant during each meal session, you will be charge $15 per pax.

They also do not provide room service or allow takeaway!!! My kids had to eat biscuit because they were in the kids club and didnt join us for dinner, i cant takeaway due to their rule.<<

Have you never travelled on Star Cruises before? It has always been that you can only choose 1 inclusive restaurant per meal session. There should be 1 buffet-style inclusive restaurant (looks to be The Lido) if you find the portions at non-buffet style restaurants too little. Not allowing takeaway is to prevent people from overconsumption. Making reservations at non-buffet style restaurant is also a standard practice for this cruise operator. It seems to be the buffet-style restaurant would have suited you better. Reading your review, you seem to be expecting the operator to be exactly like the other cruise operator you've travelled with. I'm sure the other operator is more expensive.

Dream Cruises and Royal Caribbean To Start Cruising From Singapore

  • October 8, 2020

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Dream Cruises and Royal Caribbean International have been given the nod to start operations from Singapore.

The World Dream is expected back in service in early November with the Quantum of the Seas following in December, both offering short cruises.

Dream Cruises has announced it is offering a series of brand new two and three-night “Super Seacation” experience for Singapore residents during the school and year-end holidays.

“Due to the invaluable support and confidence of the Singapore authorities in Genting Cruise Lines, the inaugural homeport deployment of World Dream in Singapore marks another important milestone in the recovery process post COVID-19 for the local cruise tourism industry,” said Michael Goh, President of Dream Cruises.

“Genting Cruise Lines is proud to continue its long and productive relationship with Singapore since 1993. We are confident that the resumption of operations in Singapore will further contribute and benefit the various local supply and related network chain of the cruise tourism sector,” said Goh.

“Public health and safety are our utmost priority as we reopen various sectors of the economy in a gradual and safe manner. We are glad to work with Genting Cruise Lines on the cruise pilot with a focus on the necessary safe management measures to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. Genting has sailed from Singapore for the past 2 decades, and our longstanding partnership puts us in a good stead for the cruise pilot starting from November,” said Keith Tan, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board.

To further ensure the health and safety of our guests, a mandatory COVID-19 test will be conducted on all guests aged 13 and above before embarking on World Dream and all guests aged seven or above are also required to present their personal TraceTogether Token or registered TraceTogether App at the time of check-in.

Royal Caribbean Spectrum of the Seas coming to Singapore in October 2022: All you need to know

Aaron Wong

A new Royal Caribbean ship is coming to Singapore next year: Spectrum of the Seas. Here's what cruisegoers can expect.

Royal Caribbean has announced that Spectrum of the Seas will commence sailings from Singapore in October 2022 , marking the ship’s first return since 2019.

Unlike the incumbent Quantum of the Seas (which will wrap up its cruise to nowhere schedule in April 2022), Spectrum will offer 3/4/5/7/9-night Southeast Asia getaway cruises. This effectively means that Royal is betting on ports opening up by 3Q 2022.

Overview: Spectrum of the Seas

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Spectrum of the Seas undertook her maiden voyage in 2019, having been designed specifically for the China and Asia market. Although she’s roughly the same size as Quantum (169,379 gross tonnage versus Quantum’s 168,666), Spectrum part of a more modern class known as the Quantum Ultra.

The ship has capacity for 5,622 guests and 1,551 crew, spread across 16 decks. Here’s an infographic provided by Royal Caribbean (you can tell what market the ship was designed for, based on the comparisons they make).

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

A total of 2,137 staterooms are available, split into 142 suites and 1,995 regular cabins. Suites are divided into the following categories:

Regular cabins are split into:

  • 1,487 Balcony staterooms
  • 142 Oceanview staterooms
  • 366 Interior staterooms

Here’s what guests can look forward to, according to the press release:

Quantum veterans will spot familiar attractions like FlowRider, North Star, iFly, and venues such as SeaPlex and Two70.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

However, there are some differences to take note of. While Quantum splits the main dining room into four different venues (American Icon Grill, Chic, Silk and The Grande), Spectrum has a single large venue simply called the Main Dining Room.

Suites guests on Quantum enjoy access to the exclusive Concierge Club , but Spectrum takes that one step further by having a Suites-only area  of the ship, located at the forward end of decks 13 through 16. This has a special restaurant, lounge and outdoor space, together with a shopping outlet.

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

In other nods to its Asian audience, Boleros has been replaced by Star Moment (a karaoke joint hopefully more Teo Heng than lup sup KTV), Harp and Horn pub has been replaced by a tea room called Leaf and Bean, and new specialty restaurants like Teppanyaki and Sichuan Red join classics like Wonderland and Chops Grille.

For a detailed review of the Spectrum experience (from 2019), refer to the link. Additional reviews can be found here and here.

Sailing dates

Spectrum will be offering 3/4/5/7/9-night Southeast Asia getaway cruises, with departure dates running from 21 October 2022 to 6 April 2023.

The inaugural cruise on 21 October 2022 will be a 5-night Spice of SE Asia itinerary visiting Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Phuket.

It won’t be cheap

Spectrum of the Seas playground area

While Spectrum sounds exciting, would-be cruisers should know that it’ll cost you a fair bit more than Quantum. I’m sure some of it boils down to the fact that cruises to somewhere are more expensive to operate than cruises to nowhere, but to illustrate, a 4-night Spectrum cruise in December 2022 starts from:

  • S$1,372 for an Interior stateroom
  • S$1,364 for an Ocean View stateroom (don’t ask me why this is cheaper)
  • S$1,712 for a Balcony stateroom
  • S$2,664 for a Silver Junior suite
  • S$3,204 for a Golden Balcony suite
  • S$5,904 for a Grand suite

For comparison, I paid the following for 4-night cruises to nowhere on Quantum:

  • January 2021:  S$2,257 for a Grand Suite
  • March 2021:  S$1,274 for a Balcony stateroom
  • January 2022: S$1,655 for a Grand Suite

HSBC and AIA are offering discounts on cruises to nowhere with Quantum, but these discounts do not currently apply to Spectrum sailings. It’s possible they may add them later, but for now, what you see is what you pay.

Remember that you can enjoy US$50-250 of onboard credit if you hold a minimum of 100 Royal Caribbean shares (NYSE: RCL).

Cruise with Confidence does not apply to Spectrum sailings

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Under Royal Caribbean’s Cruise with Confidence programme, guests can cancel their sailings up to 48 hours prior and receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit valid for bookings by 30 April 2022 and sailing by 31 December 2022, or one year from the original sailing date (whichever is later).

However, Cruise with Confidence covers bookings made by 31 October 2021, with sail dates up till 30 April 2022. This means it will not apply to Spectrum sailings, which will be subject to regular cancellation policies.

These are summarised below:

royal caribbean vs dream cruise singapore

Those who have sailed on Quantum and expect a totally brand new experience on Spectrum might be disappointed, because the two ships do share many features and architectural similarities. In fact, you can argue that Spectrum would be slightly worse for non-suite guests because they lose access to the solarium, one of my favourite places onboard.

But I do believe that actually sailing somewhere adds a whole new dimension to a cruise, and provided you’re willing to forgo suite privileges, regular staterooms are at a somewhat reasonable premium to Quantum.

Wait how did you get a 4 night grand suite at QOTS for just 1600+? Is this offer still ongoing?

Aaron Wong

I know-that’s an incredible price, even if Jan is low season for RCL. But it’s long gone. I saw someone post about these fares in the Sealions group back in July, decided it was too good to pass up.

Mike

Haha crazy deal indeed…I paid more than that for my balcony stateroom

How was the SEA cruise market in Singapore? I doubt people will choose cruise over flying if borders open…

Someone actually named something Horn Pub. Good stuff 😀

Hey, Aaron, thanks for the great article. Since you are going again next year, if Mr. Francisco is your Suite Concierge, please help me say one of your reader said Hi to him and thanks him for his service, he’s really professional and helped me booked stuff and answered my question

Dan

Hey, Aaron! Thanks for the great information. How did you get the 4 Night Grand Suite for just $1.6K?! Are you going to review the 2022 experience, I went a few weeks ago and it was different. Are you going to try the Royal Up for the next cruise?

I’ve actually decided to postpone the Jan cruise and wait for spectrum to come! I know, $1.6K was a fantastic price (AIA Vitality discount plus the fact Jan is low season), but I’ve already done the ship twice and I figured it’s time to look for something new.

So I guess you just spent $5,904 on a 4 Night Cruise in a Grand Suite. Although it’s extremely overpriced, you are actually getting more exclusivity. I think you should try Royal Up, sometimes it’s a good deal.

not paying grand suite prices on spectrum, no way! and it’s actually more than $5,900, i checked.

Actually, I recommend the Silver Junior Suite. Sea Class still have access to the Suite Only Facilities like Solarium on Spectrum, unlike on Quantum. Which cabin do you intend to go on then?

even junior suite is really expensive. might just do interior stateroom and do royalup to a balcony…

Hmm… About $2,000 for 3 Nights in Silver Junior Suite, while $3,500 for Silver Junior Suite for 5 Nights. I paid S$2,640 for 3 Nights of Grand Suite on Quantum. Take note it’s going to ports and I think it’s more expensive to operate than Cruise To Nowhere. But I wish there is a crisis to nowhere option twice every month for people who don’t want to explore ports. Why do you want to book interior room? In my opinion it’s better to go book balcony, or go for ocean view if price for balcony is too high, then royal …  Read more »

Charlene

Hi may I know $1600++ for 4 night Grand suite is for how many pax in a stateroom??

Panda

Do silver suites get access to the solarium?

Augustine

Hi where did you get the info that solarium on spectrum is only for suites guests only?

removed- this only applies to sailings from china.

Cool thanks!

We just joined their first cruise from Singapore. It is a bit better than Quantum in terms of facilities and it feels brand new. If you already been on Quantum in a cruise to nowhere, you know 95% what to expect, so it doesn’t make too much sense to try this one, unless you cannot travel out of Singapore. Meanwhile I was hoping for a sea VTL, but I have seen they just made the cruise to nowhere longer, until Oct 2022. Here is our full review of Spectrum from 11th of April, its first trip from Singapore to nowhere: …  Read more »
