This article was published on January 31, 2023 and updated on February 9, 2023 – Fresh off a 53 point game against the Detroit Pistons, Luka Dončić and his Jumpman family have indirectly unveiled a Jordan Luka 1 covered in NIKE, Inc.’s iconic “Safari” and “Elephant” patterns.

Having debuted in 1987, the dotted print was designed by Tinker Hatfield in his pursuit to create a luxurious take on a performance sneaker. The Nike Air Safari has never enjoyed the same time in the spotlight as other models in Hatfield’s catalog, but it’s inspired some coveted styles over the years. Akin to an Air Max 1 by atmos from 2002, the upcoming Jordan Luka 1 features “Total Orange” hits throughout the upper and sole unit. Furthermore, the famed “Safari” print covers the majority of the left shoe’s upper; the right shoe’s lateral side favors the grey pattern that debuted on the Air Jordan 3 in 1988 (also designed by Hatfield). Altogether, the basketball sneakers’ components make for a wild makeover to Dončić’s first signature silhouette.

The Jordan Luka 1 colorways keep on coming. Along with this upcoming “Year of the Rabbit” offering, Jordan Brand is also readying a clean “Safari” outfit for Luca Doncic’s signature shoe.

For this rendition of the Dallas Maverick’s signature silhouette, the pair nods to Tinker Hatfield’s iconic Air Safari and Jordan 3 designs. The breathable Flightwire frame cables on the lateral side are detailed with the “Safari” motif while the iconic elephant print is spotlighted on the right. The pair is further elevated with contrasting “Total Orange” hits on the midsole and Jordan branding on the lateral heel and tongue tabs. Rounding out the pair is the new IsoPlate system with full-length Formula23 foam.

Following a 53-point performance against the Detroit Pistons, Luka Doni and the Jumpman family have subtly debuted a Jordan Luka 1 with the renowned “Safari” and “Elephant” motifs from NIKE, Inc. The dotted print made its debut in 1987 and was created by Tinker Hatfield in an effort to provide an opulent interpretation of a performance shoe. The Nike Air Safari has never received as much attention as other models in Hatfield’s collection, but it has been the source of numerous treasured versions over time.

The next Jordan Luka 1 boasts “Total Orange” hits all over the upper and sole unit, similar to an Air Max 1 by atmos from 2002. The bulk of the left shoe’s upper is likewise covered in the renowned “Safari” print, while the right shoe’s lateral side prefers the grey pattern that first appeared on the Air Jordan 3 in 1988. (also designed by Hatfield). The components of the basketball shoes as a whole give Doni’s first signature design a crazy overhaul.

The Jordan Luka 1 is one of the best performance basketball sneakers of 2022 (so far). There’s a lot to get excited about with this highly anticipated Luka Doncic signature sneaker.

Luka Doncic used the Air Jordan 36 and its low-top version for most of the 2021-2022 NBA Season. Once in a while, he would swap those out for the Jordan Zoom Separate . Then, at the end of the season, he broke out his first signature sneaker, the Jordan Luka 1 and Luke fans went nuts. Turns out that the Jordan Luka 1 lived up to all that hype and is currently one of the best overall basketball shoes out there . Check it out.

The traction ties all the performance features together. It is the foundation of all basketball performance sneakers. The outsole on the Jordan Luka 1 is made of translucent rubber and works well with its multi-directional pattern to cover all your movements and changes of direction. Indoors is where it performs its best, even with dust. The pattern is raised enough that it isn’t an issue after wiping. Outdoors, however, was a bit different. There was slight slipping in the forefoot area that needed wiping, and the translucent rubber can’t be depended upon to last for a long time.

Jordan Brand sells us their newest foam with the Jordan Luka 1. That new foam is called Formula 23. What you see on the exterior is the carrier foam and the real moneymaker is housed inside. There’s some space between the Formula 23 and the carrier, so when pressure is applied, it expands and contracts accordingly. However, if you’re expecting a Zoom Air-type experience, you might be disappointed.

Something to note is that there was a noticeable difference after extensive hours of play. The forefoot felt lower than the heel. This might be that the foam is molding to the foot or bottoming out. The insoles are standard Ortholite.

The materials in the Jordan Luka 1 are not premium whatsoever. They’re lightweight, consisting of textiles with fuse overlays and some synthetic leather in the heel and eye stay areas. They’re lighter than the Nike KD 15 , a lightweight shoe on foot. FlightWire wraps around the whole upper for additional support and lockdown. The ankle collar material is soft and makes it easy for you and me to get our feet in and out of the shoe. The tongue is well-padded, comfortable, and rests nicely above the foot.

The fit of the Jordan Luka 1 is adaptable. Going up half a size works fine if you wear ankle braces or other accessories. If you have regular to narrow feet, going true to size should work for you. The shoe is accommodating, especially in the midfoot and forefoot areas. We can thank the tongue that’s slightly disconnected for that. There are only five eyelets that all work together efficiently to ensure that you quickly get your preferred fit.

The IsoPlate system is unconventional yet functional, just like Luka himself. It does a few key things. First, it acts as torsional support. Second, concentrating it on the lateral side makes the shoe much more flexible than other shoes where the torsional plate is placed right in the middle. Third and most importantly, it aids lateral stability during defensive and offensive movements. You can make hard cuts without worrying if the shoe will give too much. The heel counter is also as solid as a rock in order to keep your heel locked in.

The Jordan Luka 1 provides a big bang for your buck , considering that it will fall in the $110-120 price range. Those who value traction (especially indoors), court feel, and an adaptable fit will enjoy the Luka 1 the most.

First Impressions

Rumors of him getting a signature shoe ran rampant while fans watched him lace up those Jordan models. Then, late in the season, he debuted the Jordan Luka 1.

Now, the wait for his fans is finally over: the Jordan Luka 1 has arrived. Although it doesn’t have any Zoom Air like the other shoes mentioned, it does have Jordan’s new Formula 23 foam. It’s comfortable and will more than likely perform well on the court.

I dont play basketball, I use them for weight training and they do not disappoint! Right out the box I took them through a leg workout. Lunges, Squats, Deadlifts, Hack Press, Smith machine, Calf Machine.. it didnt matter, they were as comfortable as any shoe I have ever worn at the gym. I could not recommend them enough. OKLAHOMA CITY -- Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic , quite intentionally, had no complaints Wednesday night.

Doncic entered the pivotal Game 5 against the Oklahoma City Thunder determined not to expend any energy arguing with referees. He vented frequently during a frustrating Game 4 loss, as Doncic often does. But on Wednesday, he decided that joy would be the dominant attribute of his approach to this critical contest in the hostile Paycom Center.

"Just focus on basketball," Doncic said after the 104-92 victory that moved the Mavericks within one win of the West finals. "Remember the thing I love, the thing I love to do. Just play basketball."

Doncic, who has been dealing with a sprained right knee, sore left ankle and the smothering defense of Thunder stopper Luguentz Dort while struggling by his All-NBA standards in the first four games of the series, responded with his best performance of these playoffs. He had 31 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.

The few conversations that Doncic had with the referees Wednesday night were brief and cordial. He avoided arguing and bickering during a game that the Mavericks led for the final 43 minutes, 59 seconds.

"I talked to them normal without complaining -- nothing," said Doncic, who recorded the third 30-point playoff triple-double of his career. "I think it was the whole game, nothing. So I just go out there and hoop. Have fun, have fun. It was the old Luka -- a smile on my face."

Doncic, who was held to 22.0 points per game on 39.0% shooting in the first four games of the series, altered his pregame routine by beginning his individual warmup about 15 minutes earlier than usual. Mavericks forward Derrick Jones Jr. , who was going through his warmup routine at the same time, had a good feeling as Doncic kept draining shots.

"I was just sitting back saying, 'It's going to be a long day for them,'" Jones said. "I've always been harping on, '77 is amazing.' Once he gets his rhythm and he's got it going, you can't stop him."

Doncic got in his rhythm right away, scoring the game's first points when he kissed in an off-dribble fadeaway off the glass. His next bucket was a 21-footer that he launched because he got bumped by Thunder forward Jalen Williams and expected the whistle to blow. After the ball splashed through the net, Doncic glanced at referee Kevin Scott but silently jogged back on defense.

He remained poised while dominating as a scorer and distributor. He hit a handful of shots that halted Oklahoma City's momentum, most notably a step-back 3 over Dort from Doncic's favorite spot on the left wing immediately after the Thunder trimmed the deficit to single digits in the final minute of the third quarter. His 11 assists were highlighted by feeds to teammates for five dunks, including four alley-oops. Jones was the biggest beneficiary of Doncic drawing crowds and creating, as he scored five times on Doncic dimes and finished with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

Doncic finished 12-of-22 from the floor, 5-of-11 from 3-point range and 2-of-3 from the free throw line. He laughed when asked about shooting so few free throws, saying he didn't want to discuss the matter.

"He's human. He's not a robot," Kidd said when asked about Doncic's unusually calm demeanor. "Sometimes we just pencil in that he's going to put in 30, 10 and 10. You know the playoffs are hard mentally and physically. Before the game, understand you are not going to get any calls on the road. You got to understand you got to play through it."

Mavericks co-star Kyrie Irving and Kidd have both had discussions with Doncic about not getting distracted by his frustration with not getting foul calls he believes he deserves. Irving has emphasized to Doncic that the Mavericks are at their best when the MVP finalist focuses on "the bigger picture" instead of stressing about whistles that don't go his way.

"I think he can learn from this tonight as well as all of us and just continue to affirm to himself that when he is focused on just his game and he's focused on doing the right things, then we flourish as a team," said Irving, who scored 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

"I'm not going to sit up here and complain about him when you get on the refs like the refs are perfect either. I'm not going to do that. I got to give my brother a little benefit of the doubt. Sometimes it is warranted to get on the guys that are refereeing the game, but I think he found a healthy balance tonight where he was just really focused on getting us going offensively and making the right plays and making sure that we kept our foot on the gas pedal."

Doncic also contributed to another swarming, dominant defensive effort for Dallas. Oklahoma City finished with its fewest points in any game this season, regular season or playoffs.

Doncic sealed the win by blocking Oklahoma City superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 's transition layup attempt with 55 seconds remaining. Doncic kidded postgame about his All-Defensive candidacy for next season, but he is savoring the opportunity that the Mavericks have at the moment.

"This team is special," Doncic said. "We've only been together for what, five months, and I'm having a lot of fun with this team."

End-of-Season Grades: Evaluating Luka Samanic

We’re a couple of weeks removed from Utah Jazz basketball, and it feels like a good time to go back and grade each Jazzman’s season. While nobody looks at a 51-loss season as some grand success, several players had promising individual campaigns, gave us flashes of a promising future, or some combination of both. The next man up on our list is Luka Samanic out of Croatia.

In his first full season with the Jazz, Samanic was out of Will Hardy’s rotation for much of the year. In his 43 games, he averaged 4.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Unfortunately for him, he struggled to be productive in his sporadic minutes amongst a crowded Jazz frontcourt.

Later in the season, once injuries started thinning out the Jazz rotation, Samanic put some nice games together with his extended minutes. His best game of the year came late in the season in a win against the Houston Rockets , where Samanic put up 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. He ended the night as the Jazz’s leading scorer as they finally snapped a 13-game losing streak.

He remains an intriguing option, given his size, athleticism, and flashes of shooting. He’s a capable finisher around the hoop when he can get downhill, given his length, athleticism, and soft touch. Samanic shot an impressive 73.5% at the rim this season.

While the sample size was small, Samanic hit just 13/64 shots from three-point range this season, good for just over 20%. Unfortunately, that level of inefficiency will have to be improved if Samanic is to stick in the NBA in the future. For his career, he’s just a 24.7% shooter from deep- while his shot looks good, and he’s a willing shooter, the results have not been there.

Still just 24 years old, Samanic’s best basketball is in front of him. As a 6’10 forward who can put the ball on the floor, post up, and rebound the ball well, the allure is still there. Overall, Samanic could never get into a true rhythm for the Jazz this year, and his numbers suffered because of it. He is still a talented young player with an intriguing and unique set of skills. Samanic will head for unrestricted free agency this summer. A return to the Jazz seems unlikely with roster spots already looking limited.

Raiders OC Luke Getsy reveals what it will take to pick starting QB for 2024, what team is looking for

Getsy admits this will be a 'long process'.

The Las Vegas Raiders are going to have a battle for the starting quarterback job this offseason, between Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell . While it's only May, so there's no leader in the clubhouse, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy gave insight on what it will take to win the job this summer. 

"I think [it's] the evaluation of the performance on a whole," Getsy said, via Pro Football Talk . "There's a lot of parts to it. I think it's the way that the operation [functions], making sure we're taking care of the football, and then the production part of it. 

"I think this is a long process. We're at the beginning stages of it. Everyone's trying to get a grasp of what we're trying to accomplish — not just the Qs, but everybody."

The Raiders are in no rush to find their starting quarterback, giving Minshew and O'Connell every opportunity to win the job. Minshew has more starts under his belt (37) and is coming off a season with the Indianapolis Colts in which he completed 62.2% of his passes for 3,305 yards with 15 touchdowns to nine interceptions (84.6 rating). The Colts were 7-6 in Minshew's starts when he filled in for Anthony Richardson , who was lost for the season with an injury to his throwing shoulder in Week 5. 

O'Connell replaced Jimmy Garoppolo as the Raiders starting quarterback last season, as Las Vegas went 5-5 in his starts. He completed 62.1% of his passes for 2,218 yards with 12 touchdowns to seven interceptions (83.9 rating). He became the starter after Antonio Pierce was named the interim head coach once Josh McDaniels was fired. 

With Getsy as the new offensive coordinator, it's a fair competition between Minshew and O'Connell. 

"The good thing is we've got a good group in that room. Those guys work their butt off and they're competitive, but they're great teammates too at the same time," Getsy said. "So the beginning part of this thing has been a lot of fun."

Dearest gentle readers, Penelope Featherington ( Nicola Coughlan ) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) finally get together at the end of Bridgerton season three, Part 1.

In the final moments of Part 1 (the season has a two-part release), Colin admits he has feelings for Penelope. And after the very steamy carriage scene (a favorite from the book), they’re on track to be married, with the Bridgerton sibling asking his bride-to-be, “Penelope Featherington, are you going to marry me or not?”

While there could not have been a sweeter way to begin their love story, one massive secret looms over the happy couple: Penelope is Lady Whistledown. With Colin proclaiming early in the season that he will do whatever he can to ruin the Ton’s gossip columnist if he ever finds out who she is, chances are that their beautiful bubble will soon be popped.

“I think it makes the story just so juicy that we constantly have that noise in the back of the room,” Luke Newton tells The Hollywood Reporter of Pen’s secret. “No matter how happy things are and how good things are, [it can’t last].”

Below, the stars of Bridgerton season three open up about what’s to come for the couple in part two as they shift from friends to lovers.

Season one’s romance was immediate. Season two’s was more slow-burning. And your season is a little bit of both. How did you approach Colin’s storyline differently from Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon’s (Regé-Jean Page) and Kate (Simone Ashley) and Anthony’s (Jonathan Bailey)?

LUKE NEWTON Even at the premiere the other night , I realized how much can happen in one episode. And I think, in previous seasons, we needed to introduce everyone, particularly in season one. It took a while to introduce all these different families and these lead characters, and for us, because it focuses so much on Colin and Pen’s love story, we get to hit the ground running straight away, which is so exciting. And then welcome new characters as we go on.

The famous carriage scene from the book Romancing Mr. Bridgerton takes place at the end of Part 1. Why do you think Penelope and Colin’s intimate scenes are so heightened?

COUGHLAN Fans have invested in the characters for two seasons. For anyone, it’s easy to say girls who have felt like this — guys who have felt like this, anyone who’s felt like this — anyone who has had this crush and this love for someone who doesn’t see them, and it was just written so beautifully. It had everything. I always say that scene for me has everything that makes Bridgerton magic, because it has the romance, suspense, drama, the miscommunication and then the sexiness, and then the beautiful moments of humor. But it was a scene that stuck out to me, certainly when I read the book all those years ago, and it’s that familiarity. I feel like that moment where they laugh together is really magic, because that’s true intimacy — to me, anyway.

Also at the end of Part 1, Penelope and Colin seem to be the definition of happy. They’re on cloud nine. But Pen’s Whistledown secret looms over them. How do you think Colin is going to take the news in Part 2, assuming he finds out?

NEWTON It’s interesting going into that, because, how is he going to find out? Because, realistically, he didn’t see Penelope who was essentially in love with him for three previous years. His whole life, she’s kind of been infatuated by him, and he’s never seen that. So, how is he going to discover this massive secret she’s a pro at keeping? But I think it makes the story so juicy that we constantly have that noise in the back of the room that’s constantly going, and you’re like, no matter how happy things are and how good things are… I also love the bit that Colin is just in his real giddy mood.

COUGHLAN I love episodes five and six when they’re in that giddy, giddy time, and they’re so in love because that’s the thing. Some of the best things in this show are when you see people truly in love with one another, so blissfully happy.

NEWTON That must have been a terrible bit for Pen, because you’re jumping from moments of joy to really the realization of like, “Yeah, well, I’m the ticking time clock.”

NEWTON I think it’s been a slow preparation since our very first scene. I wouldn’t say there’s a drastic difference in the spark and connection between them. We see it in the first episode of season one. It’s not like there was nothing, and it was purely friendship. There’s always been an interest from both and whether Colin’s been clouded by other things that get in the way in his pursuit for a purpose or whatever, there’s always been a connection between them. It’s been the slowest burn out of all the love stories within the show. So, it never really felt like we had to go, “Alright, let’s step it up.” We definitely tried to pace it throughout those episodes.

COUGHLAN We were very conscious of that, because we wanted each moment to feel really earned. We were reticent about the sexy dream scene. That juxtaposed with them having their first kiss and this imagined first meeting where they’re sometimes way more calm and sexy, like, “I’ve been thinking about you,” and “Oh, I’ve been thinking about you.” Then their first actual meeting under that tree is so awkward and terrible. I now love that that’s the reality.

COUGHLAN But it doesn’t. It’s hard to think of the whole run of the story when you’re in the midst of filming because, obviously, you film out of a sequence.

NEWTON That’s when it’s like, hat’s off to Jess [Brownell], she just knew exactly what she was doing.
