How to See Stonehenge Inner Circle

There are two ways to see the Stonehenge Inner Circle: a special inner circle tour or applying for tickets through the English Heritage website. Tickets allow for special access to the inner circle, allowing you to get up close to the stones. Standard entrance tickets only allow you to view the stone circle from afar, behind a rope. Not only do Stonehenge inner circle viewings enable you to access the inner circle, but they also take place outside normal admission times. This is often at sunrise or sunset, the perfect time for viewing the magic of Stonehenge.

Please note that if you wish to purchase tickets, it’s recommended to do so well in advance as visitor numbers are limited and tickets get sold out.

How to see Stonehenge inner circle:

We offer several different tours to the Stonehenge inner circle. Stonehenge Inner Circles tours are very exclusive and offered on only a few select dates during the year.

1, The first place to look is here >>>

Our inner circle tour is available in the early morning and late evening, enabling you to view either sunrise or sunset, when the stones take you back 5000 years to the Neolithic Age. As you wander the inner circle, you get to fully appreciate their enormous scale and appreciate even more the incredible feat of their very existence. With the morning tour, you will see the inner circle first and then continue onto the elegant Georgian city of Bath. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Bath with an optional visit to the 2000-year-old Roman Baths. Finally, we drive to the small picture postcard medieval village of Lacock to enjoy breakfast at a 14th-century pub. The evening tour is reversed, starting in  Bath, followed by dinner, and ending with a visit at sunset to the Stone Circle.

The sunrise tour is available on most Mondays and Thursdays. The sunset tour is available on most Sundays and Wednesdays.

This is our evening tour and is similar to the first option. The difference is that there is no visit to Lacock and dinner is served at a restaurant in Bath. Enjoy this special access viewing away from the crowds and after Stonehenge is closed to the general public. This tour is available on most Tuesdays and Saturdays.

With this option, you will visit the inner circle in the early morning before it opens to the general public. Afterward, travel to the historic town of Windsor, where you will enjoy a guided walking tour of Windsor’s town centre. Food and drink are not included, but there are many pubs and cafes. Alternatively, visit the magnificent Windsor Castle, which is located within the town, a 900-year-old royal residence used by King Charles III, where you can view sumptuous artwork and furnishings. Within the grounds of the Castle lies St George’s Chapel, where Queen Elizabeth was laid to rest. There is also a cafe and gift shop in the Castle. This tour operates on most Mondays and Saturdays.

4. Private transfer from Central London With Early or Late Access .

Another way to see the inner circle at Stonehenge is to take a special access private tour .   You will be collected from your Central London hotel to visit Stonehenge early in the morning or later in the evening, with special access. Tickets must be purchased from the English Heritage website . We advise booking well in advance as tickets will get sold out. With this private transfer, you can combine a visit with other locations, including the stones at Avebury, the Georgian city of Bath, and Windsor Castle. Please contact us for more information.

5. Visiting Independently:

English Heritage, which is in charge of running and preserving Stonehenge, does offer a limited number of tickets to the public to see the inner circle. These tickets sell out fast, and you should apply well in advance. You can see more information about an independent visit and apply for tickets here .

6. Stonehenge Tours Without Special Access

Stonehenge has released the tickets for 2024 and up to March 2025. Tickets sell out months in advance so please contact me once you know the dates for your trip.

STONEHENGE INNER CIRCLE TOUR OVERVIEW

This is a unique Stonehenge experience! We will visit Stonehenge when it is closed to the public and go inside the stone circle - something you can not do during the normal public opening hours.

I will guide you around the stone circle, explaining its history and the latest archaeological findings. I will point out interesting features and tell you about Stonehenge's unusual stories!

Stonehenge limits the number of visitors for this special access to 30 people giving you a more intimate experience and offering great photo opportunities.

Tour duration: 3.5 - 4 hours  

Tour frequency: Tours are subject to availability and are only available on certain days of the month. Please contact me to check for availability. There are no tours in October nor November and there are no tours in the days around the solstices (16th - 30th June and 16th - 26th December) and the equinoxes (18th - 22nd March and 22nd - 25th September).  

Start time:  Tours are operated around sunrise and sunset. Please see Additional Information for more information.

Meeting point:  Your accommodation in Bath or a central location in Bath such as the railway station.

Tour price:   £270 for your private group (maximum 6 people). This does not include our inner circle tickets. After booking I will send you instructions for purchasing these. In 2024 tickets cost £61 per adult with discounts for children and for my ticket.  If you are 2 people then the total ticket price (including my ticket) will cost £169.

ADDITIONAL INFO

We will spend one hour at the stone circle. It will not be possible to visit the Stonehenge Visitor Centre during the tour as it will be closed.

You will be exposed to the weather at Stonehenge and you will be walking on grass so please dress accordingly. It can get cold!

Stonehenge offers different times for the inner circle tours depending on the hours for sunlight. The earliest time is at 5:30am in the summer months. Other times, depending on the time of year, include 6:45am and 8am; and in the afternoon/evening: 4:45pm, 6:45pm and 8pm.  Your pick-up time will be approx. 1 hour before these times.

This Stonehenge tour is based on a pick-up and drop-off in Bath but it can be customised for other locations. The tour can also be customised to  include other attractions in the area e.g. Salisbury Cathedral and the Magna Carta, a walking tour of Bath. Please contact me for further information.

A magical package combining the personal experience of an inner circle Stonehenge tour with a visit to historic Bath with its Roman and Georgian architecture.

This package is a full day out - 12 hours, from 10am to 10pm. You begin your day at the World Heritage Site of Bath, where you can enjoy a panoramic tour as well as an enjoyable guided walking tour.

In Bath you can enjoy a meal in the exceptional Bar and Brasserie, Browns where included in your ticket is a 2-course meal including main and dessert. Feeling full and relaxed, you'll be ready for your evening adventure of Special Access at the Stones.

Finally as it approaches dusk you'll head for the ancient Neolithic circle of Stonehenge where you can go behind the ropes to enjoy a very special up-close experience as the sun goes down.

Stonehenge is a "must see" for any visitor. This Stonehenge Special Access tour offers something different, giving you privileged access, behind the ropes within the Stone Circle itself, walking among the stones.

These special access sessions at Stonehenge only happen outside Stonehenge normal public opening hours, at dawn (and in the evening too between March and September).

The privileged special access at Stonehenge is for the select few! Only 30 people are allowed on Stonehenge for each special access session.

Demand far outstrips supply of tickets - Stonehenge special access tours are routinely sold out far in advance.

Tickets are allocated by Stonehenge and are released usually every November for the following year.  We aim to display the following year's ticket dates for Stonehenge Special Access as soon as possible after they are made live. If you are planning ahead for later than these dates it is necessary to keep checking back until they become live in the autumn before you visit.

Please note - Special Access visits are available most but not all months of the year. No tours run during October and November and last two weeks of June.

Our special arrangement with English Heritage allows us to invite you within the inner ring of Stonehenge as part of a unique tour experience. For 99% of people visiting the sight the stones are roped off and observed from a distance. But not you… As the sun rises and before the moument is officially open to the public, you will already been inside Stonehenge. You will be permitted beyond the fences, within the inner circle and tread the sacred ground which so few have before you. Our special access tours will allow you to contemplate the mystery of the ancient monoliths as you walk amongst them, whilst an expert tour guide brings to life their many myths, legends and fascinating history. A truly magical experience and a unique photo opportunity.
