Details that Drive

Must Know Details: Located just 15 miles northeast of the Strip , the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is an amazing complex, complete with a 1.5-mile superspeedway on a 1,200-acre site with multiple tracks for racing!

Parking: Free parking is available surrounding the entire Speedway. Just check out a map to find an area closest to your seat or traveling point!

Tickets: If you’re reserving tickets online (through the official website or directly through Ticketmaster), all tickets are digitally distributed. Keep that in mind. If inclement weather happens, ticketholders can attend a rescheduled event, but there are no refunds.

What You Can Bring Inside: Keep those coolers at home, fans! Clear bags aren’t required for all events but are recommended. Guests are allowed a maximum of two bags per person, which will be inspected upon entry. Remember this when you’re packing for the main event.

Eats to Enjoy Inside: Sports fun means sports food. Concession stand classics include your favorites such as nachos, hamburgers and hot dogs. Several independent vendors including pizza and barbecue, etc., are available on event weekends.

Transportation/Lodging: If you’re looking for a fast way to the speedway, RTC Bus Line 220 might be your best option. It’s a ride that’s convenient for all festivalgoers. Taxis and rideshare are also available. If you want to stay overnight, camping sections are staffed with 24-hour security, and spots must be reserved.

Events That Inspire

NASCAR: Cheer on your favorite driver, all while enjoying the outdoors. Las Vegas hosts major NASCAR races, including the fall NASCAR weekend with the South Point 400 race and the spring NASCAR weekend with the Pennzoil 400 race. Purchase a weekend or annual ticket package and enjoy all the benefits! You can also upgrade to a Club Level package for some of the best seats in the house.

NHRA : The National Hot Rod Association, a drag-racing governing body, features races across the country with some scheduled right here in Las Vegas. One can’t-miss race weekend is the April NHRA Four-Wide Nationals when some of the top names in drag racing get behind the wheel at LVMS. NHRA returns in the Fall with another national event.

Other Racing: The Las Vegas Motor Speedway brings racing action to the destination year-round. Other events include import, street car and motorcycle racing—be sure to check out the schedule to know what’s going on at this world-class racing venue.

If you’re looking for racing events in Las Vegas, the speedway has something for you. With so many events at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, this unique Vegas attraction should make your must-do list. And, while checking out thrilling attractions , be sure to take a look at the destination’s new restaurants and things to do in Downtown Las Vegas !

LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY DESCRIPTION

If you've got a need for speed, then have we got the spot for you. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is your one-stop destination for everything that zooms on four wheels.

The professional track hosts NASCAR Race Weekends in both March and September, with ticket packages available that give buyers access for the entire weekend, preferred seating, club access, and hotel stay options at multiple resorts. Drag Strip events include Two NHRA National Drag Races, Monthly Midnight Mayhem competitions, the Dragsters Bracket Series, and more.

The Speedway also offers plenty of hands-on experiences. Both Exotics Racing and Dream Racing places you behind the wheel of some of the world's fastest supercars on a closed track so you can test your skills. Other driving options include the NASCAR Racing Experience and the Mario Andretti Experience that allow you to train with a professional driver before jumping behind the wheel of a real racecar for a timed racing session.

Not to mention that the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is also home to one of the largest Christmas light displays in the United States, Glittering Lights, which boasts millions of individual lights that you can enjoy from the comfort of your car. A portion of the proceeds go to a variety of local charities, Goodwill will be available to take donations, and refreshments will also be available courtesy of the Las Vegas Boy Scouts.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway Information

Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a 1,200 acre complex of racing tracks for motorsports racing. The venue is 15 miles northeast of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and is owned by Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Speedway was planned and developed following the closure of the Stardust International Raceway in 1971. The intent was to create a new racing facility in Las Vegas, originally called the Las Vegas Speedrome.

The Speedroome consisted of a road course and a drag strip that was opened in 1972. When Ralph Engelstad of the Imperial Palace purchased the track in 1989, it was renamed Las Vegas, Speedway Park. Englestad partnered with William Bennett of the Sahara Hotel and opened a brand new $72 million superspeedway on the site in 1996.

The first race at this new facility was an IndyCar event held on September 15 of 1996, which was won by Richie Hearn. A NASCAR Truck Series race followed in November of that same year. The new facility enjoyed success  which led to a 1998 purchase by Speedway Motorsports for $215 million.

After this purchase, some of the greatest races came to the venue, including Mike Skinner’s 2006 NASCAR victory after the venue was reopened to stock cars and Jeff Burton’s Busch Series victory in March 2007. The venue has also played host to Insomniac Events’ largest rave festival in North America, the Electric Daisy Carnival, and several others.

LVMS is considered by many the shining jewel of the desert, and one visit to the raceway track and facilities will tell you why.

National Solo Tech Inspection and Check-In will occur at the Lincoln Driver's Center unless specified elsewhere in the event details. Look for the SCCA-branded canopies set up near the white SCCA Tech trailer

TECH INSPECTION:

A Chief Technical Inspector (CTI) will be appointed as per the National Solo Rules, Section 5.6. The role of the CTI will be to oversee the process and if needed conduct additional inspections of vehicles.

A Self-Tech Inspection form will be available online before the event as well as on-site. The tech form can be found on this page in the section located on the right side of the page or below this dropdown if on mobile that also contains links to online registration, live timing, and worker descriptions. Simply download the form and print a copy to bring with you to the event – ONE FOR EACH DRIVER.

  • Each driver will complete the form by conducting a self-tech of their vehicle when parked in the paddock, warranting that their car is compliant with the SCCA Solo Rules. If there are two or more drivers using the vehicle, a completed form is needed for each driver.
  • While still in the paddock, the class designation and numbers will be placed on the vehicle. If the driver has them at this time, also place on the vehicle any SCCA-required decals and appropriate contingency decals. All SCCA-required decals and some contingency decals are available at Tech Inspection. ( NOTE: Additional information about SCCA-required decals and their placement can be found in the “Vehicle Eligibility & Information” section above)
  • The driver gives their Self-Tech Inspection form to the CTI, or their designee, and shows them their helmet to verify that helmet requirements are met. The helmet will then be given to a Check-In worker who will scan the barcode to ensure that we can get a valid scan. If a new helmet barcode is needed, one will be provided. ( NOTE: If you have a helmet barcode that is not from National Solo, please cover it during the event. The scanning system only recognizes that there is a barcode, it does not differentiate between National Solo vs Regional or other programs.)
  • The car will receive a quick review for numbers and class letters, plus any obvious mechanical issues.
  • Drivers will be asked if they need any SCCA or contingency decals AND if there are any changes to their event registration information (car, class, number, etc.).

If there are NO changes to the information that was used to register on MSR, they will be checked in for the event at Tech using the self-tech form and they can then return to the paddock.

If there ARE changes to the registration information that was used to register on MSR, they will keep their tech form and exit the Tech area with their vehicle. They must bring the tech form to the SCCA Timing Trailer at the designated time shown in the event schedule to complete any changes and be checked in for the event.

ON-SITE CHECK-IN:

Event supps will no longer be handed out when you check in but will still be available by request. Event Details (aka Supps) will be posted online on the Event page as well as on-site in the following areas: Tech/Impound/Lincoln Driver’s Center & on the Timing Trailer.

Schedules shown on the Event Page are the official schedules for the event.

Work assignments will also be posted on the Event Page. A report showing the class listing will be created and it contains information about competitors’ registrations, including work assignments. Information will be available when you tech if you ask.

If you have NO CHANGES to your registration, you can proceed through tech, turn in your tech form and you will be checked in for the event.

If you HAVE CHANGES to your registration, you can proceed through tech, but you will need to KEEP your tech form and make your way to the SCCA Timing Trailer at the designated time for registration changes (see the event schedule for times). You will be checked-in for the event at that time.

Once check-in is closed for the event, a finalized worker sheet will be posted online to the Event Page (approx 8:15am). Please check there to verify that your work assignment has not changed due to class changes, cancellations, etc. Any work assignments that have changed will be highlighted in grey.

PENALTIES FOR INCORRECT NUMBERS OR BARCODES:

  • Tech will confirm vehicle identification (Solo Rule 3.7) and helmet barcodes are compliant. The vehicle  will not  pass tech if not compliant.
  • Competitors at the start line with the wrong number on their car, 2 sets of numbers, or the incorrect class showing will receive a warning for the first offense, a cone penalty for the second offense, and may receive a DSQ for three or more offenses at the same event.
  • Competitors at the scanner with more than one (1) barcode showing on the helmet will receive a warning for the first offense, a cone penalty for the second offense and may receive a DSQ for three or more offenses at the same event.
  • National Tour & CAM/XS Challenge: A driver at the scanner or the start line without the appropriate helmet decal (Solo 2023) will be directed away from the start and lose the run.
  • ProSolo:   A driver at the scanner or the start line without the appropriate helmet decal (Solo 2023) will be directed to exit the stage lane. Go directly to the Tech/Impound area to get the helmet inspected and decal applied.

A. GENERAL RULES: This event is held under the SCCA Solo Rules plus the rules and procedures found on this event page, using all Open and Ladies National classes and National Supplemental classes, as defined by the 2023 Solo Rules. All class changes must be approved by the Chief Steward or their designee once check-in closes.

B. COURSE WALKS:  Courses will be open for walking at the following times (unless otherwise noted on Event Specific communications). See Event Specific communications for more detail or specific days if the event is a multi-event weekend.

Friday: 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm Saturday: 7:00 am – 8:25 am and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Sunday: 7:00 am – 7:35 am

C. SCALES:  Scales will be available to the competitors during the event free of charge under the supervision of Impound. You will be restricted from using the scales when they are being used by Impound. Consult with the Chief of Impound if in doubt.

D. SAFETY:

  • A speed limit of 12 MPH will be enforced at the event site including pre-grid and grid. Tire spins, rapid speed or direction changes, or other "abnormal/unusual" driving techniques are strictly prohibited throughout the event site, other than during competition. See Event Chairman for questions or problems.
  • Drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew and guests.
  • Photographers desiring to enter a course area must be approved by the course Safety Steward and be accompanied by a spotter. A minor may not serve as a spotter.
  • The operation of motorized vehicles, whether gas or electric powered, such as but not limited to, golf carts and other personal transportation vehicles, is limited to persons who can present a valid driver’s license.
  • Pylons, tape, and/or other barriers will define "No Parking" areas near the course. Cars parked in such a manner that block or restrict defined driveways or entrances to course areas will be towed away without notice, at the expense of the vehicle operator/owner.
  • Skateboards, hoverboards, Segways, scooters, bicycles, and similar conveyances may not be ridden in the Grid area.
  • All incidents involving injury and/or property damage occurring on the event site or felt associated with the event will be reported as soon as possible to the Event Chairman or Chief Safety Steward.

E. ORDER OF RUNNING:

  • Competition will be on two successive days with one course run each day. Runs will be scheduled in 2-6 heats each day depending on number of entries (heats will be assigned by car class).
  • There will be a grid 100 and grid 200. Therefore, drivers are to position their cars in grid 100 or grid 200 as assigned. If the car is not in their specified grid position when the first car of the heat is instructed to the start line, they may lose a run/or runs depending on arrival time to grid.
  • All drivers will be assigned a "home" space number for grid purposes where they may leave any necessary equipment. After each run, all drivers will return to their "home." Do not block the access lanes between spaces. Dual Drivers will have the same grid position.
  • During competition, the course will be open for walk-through prior to the 3 rd heat each day, if time permits.
  • All drivers will be offered three runs on each course, conditions permitting.
  • No competitor shall take a second run until after all drivers in their class have completed their first run. After the completion of each run, vehicles must return directly to the grid. Vehicles are not permitted to depart the grid area for service.
  • A minimum of five minutes must have elapsed between runs for any car. This includes reruns or runs for another driver of the same car. A grid marshal will be specifically assigned to handle two-driver cars and will keep a time log to assure compliance with the five-minute minimum between runs. The time shall be measured from the time the car returns to grid until the time it leaves grid for the start line.
  • Drivers must proceed from the grid to the start line when so directed by a grid official, or that run will be scored as a DSQ if a mechanical is not called before reaching the start beam.
  • Heat assignments will be posted on the event page on the SCCA website – SCCA.com –. It is your responsibility to know when your car should be in grid.

F. PENALTIES FOR INCORRECT NUMBERS OR BARCODES:

  • Tech will confirm vehicle identification (Solo Rule 3.7) and helmet barcodes are compliant. The vehicle will not pass tech if not compliant.
  • A driver at the scanner or the start line without the appropriate helmet decal (Solo 2023) will be directed away from the start and lose the run.

G. PROTEST AND APPEALS: Refer to Solo Rules Section 8 and Solo Rules Section 10

H. COURSE MARKERS: Refer to Solo Rules, Rule 7.9

I. RESULTS:  Provisional results will be posted in impound after completion of all runs for the heat. Results will be final 30 minutes after provisional results are posted. Check final results to make sure the manufacturer is correct for your car and tire brand. Official results will be available on the event page at www.scca.com .

J. TROPHIES AND AWARDS:  Trophies will be awarded on Sunday (2 nd National Tour competition day on a multi-event weekend) after the last runs of each heat in their respective Impounds. They will not be mailed. If you leave the event early, appoint someone to receive your award.

K. EVENT SCHEDULE:  Actual schedule may deviate from the published schedule due to unforeseen circumstances during the event. It is the driver’s responsibility to listen to the PA system, refer to event Sportity app communications, and pay attention to activity on course.

L. COMMUNICATIONS: Please download the Sportity app to receive communication from the event officials. Go to Google Play Store or Apple AppStore and download the Sportity app. The event password, once established, will be found in the "Location & Site Details" dropdown and in pre-event communication. Announcements will also be made over the PA system. Live timing can be found at sololive.scca.com .

A. DRIVER ELIGIBILITY: Refer to Solo Rules 4.2 and 4.1.A

B. ANNUAL SCCA WAIVERS: If you are a full SCCA member (not running the event on a Weekend Membership), it is highly recommended that you complete your annual waiver ahead of the event. Once completed, your annual waiver will show as a designation on the back of your membership card and is valid for the calendar year. This can then be shown at the waiver station instead of signing the SCCA waiver, both at regional and national level events. Instructions for completing your annual waiver can be found here . Armbands are still to be worn during the event to indicate that you have completed the waiver.

C. CHANGES TO YOUR REGISTRATION: If you have changes to any of your registration information and online registration is still open - go ahead and make changes in the MotorsportReg system. This will automatically correct the information that goes into the event file and will help shorten the lines at event check-in. If you need to make a change after online registration closes but before on-site check-in opens, email Tracy Lewis at [email protected]

D. DRIVER MEETING NOTES:  There will be a drivers’ meeting on Saturday of the event (1 st National Tour competition day on a multi-event weekend). Changes to the event details and other items of information as well as the names of all event officials will be included in the material provided on the event page at SCCA.com. IT IS A COMPETITOR’S RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THE EVENT PAGE AT SCCA.COM FOR CHANGES TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL REGULATIONS.

E. PENALTIES FOR INCORRECT NUMBERS OR BARCODES:

F. ENTRANTS AS WORKERS: Solo Rules Rule 6

Early work assignments that offset a normal work assignment must be pre-approved by the Event Chairman and/or staff. These assignments must be extremely limited to prevent loss of critical support during the event. Serving as a volunteer prior to the event is greatly appreciated and a key element in the success of this event. However, this does not automatically offset a normal work assignment.

G. WORKER MEETING NOTES:  Workers will report to the Worker Check-In person at the Lincoln Drivers' Center (Tech Trailer) before the beginning of the last run of the heat prior to their assigned work heat. First heat workers will report 15 minutes prior to the start of the event. Failure to report on time will result in an additional work assignment after the finish of the last heat on that day. Not complying with these rules will result in disqualification.

It is possible that your work assignment within your heat may have changed due to cancellations or class changes. A flag will be raised at the Lincoln Drivers' Center to let you know it is time to check in and that someone is available to get you checked in.

The worker sheet will be posted at the Lincoln Drivers' Center and on the SCCA event page online when check-in closes so competitors can verify work assignments. It is your responsibility to know when you should report for your work assignment.

A. VEHICLE ELIGIBILITY:  Competition is open to all vehicles conforming to the Open and Ladies National classes and National Supplemental classes, as defined by the 2023 Solo Rules.

B. DECALS:

  • The Tire Rack® is the title sponsor for all 2023 SCCA® National Solo® events. Participants in these events are required to run the title sponsor decal, which is a windshield decal that is to be used at the top of the windshield. Vehicles without windshields or with plastic windshields may place the decal on the front of the car in a highly visible location approved by the Chief of Compliance. Decals other than the official Tire Rack® decal, except those required by National Tour Staff, are prohibited on the windshield.
  • Additional required event decals are one SCCA® (on the front) (legacy SCCA wheel and new SCCA decals will be accepted for 2023) and 2 National Tour decals (one on each side).
  • A 2D-style barcode is used by National Solo for each competitor's helmet. This barcode should be affixed to the competitor's helmet in an accessible location for scanning at the start line. Any and all other barcodes (SCCA Regional or for other events) must be covered during the event so the National Solo barcode is the only one visible.

C. TECH PROCEDURES:

  • Safety Inspections (Solo Rules 3.3.3) should be completed at the event site and will be completed by competitors using a Self-Tech form.
  • Solo Rules 3.7 Vehicle Identification will be checked. The official Tire Rack decal and tech stickers are the only decals permitted on the windshield
  • Competition vehicles that have a required minimum weight (Street Modified, Prepared, Modified, and Kart) will inform Tech of that weight so the weight and vehicle wheelbase can be posted on the tech sticker. This is to allow other competitors to know the declared minimum weight and to reduce any delays at the scales during event impound procedures.

D. PENALTIES FOR INCORRECT NUMBERS OR BARCODES:

E. IMPOUND PROCEDURES:

  • All competition vehicles will be impounded per Solo Rules 6.10 to assure that competitors have complied with the SCCA National Solo Rules and the Supplementary Regulations for the event. Car information verification will also be conducted in Impound.
  • Vehicles will be impounded on both days of competition in your assigned grid area. After your last run each day, return to your original grid position, except as noted in section D.7 below. The driver of each vehicle or a designated representative must remain in the grid/impound area near the vehicle during the impound period. Karts will be allowed to be driven to the scales under close supervision by event officials. Impounded vehicles may be held until the results are audited.
  • Impound officials may inspect cars during impound and may require removing wheels and or components as part of the inspection procedure. Competitors are responsible for performing these procedures as required and for using proper equipment (e.g., jack stands to safely support a raised vehicle). Competitors are responsible for having appropriate rules and documentation of specifications
  • Competitors may observe but Impound inspectors must not be hindered in their assigned duties by anyone in any way.
  • Impound does not act on hearsay information regarding competitor concerns. If competitors suspect a rule violation, they should file protests in accordance with the National Solo Rules. Section 8, Protests.
  • Vehicles under protest will remain in impound. They may be escorted by a designated Impound or Protest Committee official to another location as instructed by the Protest Committee.
  • Classes that have minimum weights are required to be weighed. It is the competitors’ responsibility to know if their vehicle has a minimum weight requirement.

F. SOUND POLICY: Refer to Solo Rules Rule Appendix I. Sound requirements are strictly enforced.

G. TIMING AND SCORING: Refer to Solo Rules Rule 7

  • The total score will consist of the best-timed run from each course, combined to create one time.
  • Scores will be posted. See the Operating Steward to resolve problems. THE TIMING & SCORING TRAILER IS OFF LIMITS FOR COMPETITORS, CREW, AND SPECTATORS unless invited to enter by an event official.
  • Live timing is available at sololive.scca.com .

You must register for contingencies each year through the SCCA website, prior to competing for all Silver Gold, and Platinum contingency programs. In some cases, you'll need to register with the sponsor as well, so please read each program's registration requirements carefully. Decals will be available at tech inspection during each event. Bronze programs require registering and receiving decals directly from that sponsor, please refer to the program descriptions for more information.

GET THE DETAILS

Registration Policy (after online closes)

Online registration closes at   3:00 pm Central, Tuesday prior to the event .  After online registration closes, you can still register for the event on-site during regular registration times on the day prior to the competition.  Please note, there will be a late entry fee imposed on all on-site registrations.  If the event is already full we will follow the waitlist policy (see below).

Car Number Policy

Car numbers selection will be on a first-come, first-served basis.  Only one- or two-digit numbers will be allowed (i.e., 1 through 99). Exception: Where there are two drivers in one car, in one class, then the second driver MUST be 100 plus the first driver's number (99 and 199). The Motorsportsreg.com system does not allow drivers to reserve their co-driver's number. With that, if there is a conflict where someone signs up for a number and someone else who is not the co-driver signs up for the corresponding number, the person that signed up first for either the two or three-digit number is the owner of that combination. If you notice a discrepancy in numbers, please contact Tracy Lewis ( [email protected] ).  Motorsportreg.com provides the date/time of registrations to determine who registered first and is the rightful owner of the number combination. If desired, drivers of the same car but in different classes (open and ladies) may use the same car number. Drivers of the same car in the same class must submit separate entries. Car numbers above 199 are not allowed at National Solo events.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be made in writing. Please contact Tracy Lewis ( [email protected] )  with questions or to cancel. Please review valuable information regarding refunds below.

Partial refunds (SCCA keeps $50) for cancellations IF: Entrant cancels PRIOR to 7:00 pm Central the day of on-site check-in.

NO REFUNDS for cancellations IF:  Entrant cancels AFTER 7:00 pm Central the day of on-site check-in.

If you are sick, please stay home. We appreciate your desire to keep the Solo community healthy.

Waitlist Policy

The Tire Rack SCCA National Solo events (ProSolo, National Tour, CAM/XS Challenge) are adopting a revised waitlist policy for 2023:

  • The initial entry cap will be set 15 entrants lower than the final cap.
  • When an event hits the initial entry cap, the remaining competitors will be put on a waitlist.
  • Just like the 2022 Tire Rack National Solo season, the waitlist will be published to show the order in which each member is on the list, based on the order of entry receipt and the timestamp listed on the MSR registration. This is the order in which entries will move off the waitlist and into the event when a cancellation is processed.  This list does not automatically update in real-time but is rather a report from the registration system that will be run periodically so that those on the waitlist can understand their current position . Given that the list is not updating in real-time, there may be names at the top of the waitlist that have already moved into the event and there may be names that have registered onto the waitlist that do not yet appear.
  • When 15 entrants have registered with the region of record of the hosting region the cap will be increased to the final. If 15 hosting region members have not registered 2 weeks prior to the event the cap will be increased to its final.
  • For entrants on the waitlist, there is no guarantee the entrant will get into the event.
  • As entrants on the entry list cancel, the next person in line on the waitlist will be notified via email that there has been a cancellation and they have now been moved into the event. When that entrant is moved over, they will be required to log into MSR and pay for the event (MSR does not charge waitlisted competitors). The entrant will have 24 hours to pay for the event before that entrant is placed back on the waitlist and the next entrant is put into the event.
  • We will continue to move entrants off the waitlist as we receive cancellations up until the time online registration closes.
  • After online registration closes, we will not update the waitlist online. However, if there is a cancellation after online registration closes, entrants on the waitlist will be contacted in waitlist order to let them know a spot in the event has opened. They will be instructed to contact the on-site event Administrator to claim their spot and remit payment. The waitlist will also be printed and posted in the timing trailer on Friday morning. As cancellations come in during the registration/check-in day, we will try to contact the top person on the waitlist to see if they are available and still want to get into the event that day.
  • At the end of registration on the day prior to the competition, the waitlist will be closed, and no new entries will be allowed into the event.

Onsite Event Registration and Car/Class Changes

For any event that is not sold out, on-site registration is allowed on the day prior to competition .  All on-site registrations will be charged the event late fee (see event registration page for pricing). Car and class changes are allowed at check-in on the day prior to competition. Any car or class changes on the days of competition require the approval of the Chief Steward for the event.

Denny Hamlin holds off Larson late to win NASCAR Cup race at Dover Motor Speedway

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Denny Hamlin called his shot ahead of Dover, guaranteeing a win on his podcast, then followed through on his bold boast that would have made the Bambino proud and held off Kyle Larson down the stretch to park his Toyota in victory lane.

Hamlin wiggled past lapped traffic and never let Larson squeak by him over the final laps in a showdown between two of NASCAR's elite drivers and won the Cup race by about a quarter of a second Sunday at Dover Motor Speedway.

“You better win if you're going to open your mouth, that's for sure,” Hamlin said.

Hamlin has the victory lane celebration down pat this season. He celebrated last week at Talladega Superspeedway in his role as co-owner of 23XI Racing when Tyler Reddick took the checkered flag. Hamlin's contribution was a bit overshadowed by his fellow team owner — Michael Jordan. For the first time since he became a NASCAR Cup team owner, Jordan was at the track to savor in person a victory by one of his drivers.

Hamlin took his turn in the spotlight this week with the Monster trophy as a driver for Joe Gibbs Racing at Dover.

“It is a little bit different when you win it yourself versus as a car owner,” Hamlin said.

Hamlin knew the win was coming. Or at least, publicly he was willing to say he did, going so far as to call his shot — he even referenced Babe Ruth on the podcast — that he would master the Monster Mile.

"I'm going to call it now. We're going to win Dover," Hamlin said last week on “Actions Detrimental.” "Got it?

“Hopefully some listeners of ‘Actions Detrimental’ maybe cashed in today,” Hamlin said.

Hamlin led 136 of the 400 laps and won at Dover for the second time in his career.

Perhaps fittingly, the Babe wore No. 3 for the New York Yankees — and there was Hamlin and the rest of his No. 11 team flashing three fingers in tribute to the team's third win of the season.

Hamlin's three wins tie him with William Byron for most this season in the series. Hamlin also picked up his 54th career Cup win, all with Joe Gibbs Racing. He's tied with Lee Petty for 12th on the career Cup list.

“I couldn't hold Lee Petty's helmet," Hamlin said.

The tone for the season was set from the opener when Hamlin also won the Clash at the Coliseum exhibition race.

Larson finished second and nipped at Hamlin's bumper for most of the final 25 laps and seemed on the brink of passing the Toyota. Larson's No. 5 Chevrolet just couldn't close the deal on the mile concrete track. Hamlin took the lead off a restart with 81 laps left and never let it go, repeatedly choking off Larson's Chevy at the top of the track.

“I just couldn't really do anything,” Larson said. “Nothing could generate enough speed to get close enough to do anything.”

Hamlin was soundly booed as he grabbed the checkered flag — boos louder than usual at the track because of the surprisingly full grandstands.

After rainouts forced Monday races each of the last two years, the sun came out Sunday — and so did the fans. The grandstands were packed and the track came close to its 54,000 capacity. While NASCAR tracks do not release attendance numbers, the crowd was easily the largest at Dover since before the pandemic.

Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott completed the top five.

THE BIG ONE

There was a multi-car wreck with 71 laps left in the race that took out Christopher Bell, Bubba Wallace and William Byron.

Coming off a restart, Zane Smith appeared to get into the left rear of Wallace's Toyota which sent him into traffic and into Byron and Bell. Wallace was running 11th at the time of the wreck. Bell was 16th and Byron 18th.

A year after the Truex brothers swept Dover — Ryan Truex won the Xfinity race; Martin Truex the Cup race — they failed to repeat. Ryan Truex went back-to-back and won a second straight Xfinity race on Saturday. Martin Truex won the first stage of the race and led 69 laps before he suffered some damage to the nose of his Toyota.

“Feel like we let one get away today," Martin Truex said. “You can’t lose control of these races mid stage like that. The track changes, you get behind.”

ALL-STAR SUB

Kevin Harvick, the 2014 NASCAR champion who retired at the end of last season, will drive the No. 5 Chevrolet in place of Larson in practice and qualifying for the NASCAR All-Star race .

Larson will stay in Indianapolis on May 17 to practice for the Indianapolis 500 rather than travel to North Wilkesboro Speedway to practice and qualify for the NASCAR All-Star race. He will become the fifth driver in history to attempt to complete “ The Double ” and run 1,100 miles in one day, starting with the Indianapolis 500 in an Indy car and then flying to Charlotte to drive in the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR’s longest race of the year.

Kansas Speedway where Hamlin is the defending race winner.

“I'm not going to call my shot just yet,” Hamlin said, laughing.

2024 Wurth 400: NASCAR at Dover DFS lineups, odds, Fantasy picks, driver pool, rankings from proven expert

T he 2024 Wurth 400 takes place on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET from Dover Motor Superspeedway. Kyle Larson is the 9-2 favorite in the latest 2024 Wurth 400 odds, followed by Martin Truex Jr. (6-1). Is Larson worth the price tag he'll come with for NASCAR DFS lineups and is he worth using in other NASCAR Fantasy picks for NASCAR at Dover? William Byron, Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain follow at 15-2 odds in an elite 2024 Wurth 400 driver pool. None of these drivers with the five shortest odds finished in the top five last week, so how confident should you feel using them in 2024 Wurth 400 DFS lineups and Fantasy NASCAR picks? Before locking in your 2024 Wurth 400 DFS lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel, and Fantasy NASCAR projections, be sure to  check out the optimal NASCAR at Dover DFS strategy and advice from SportsLine's Mike McClure .

McClure has won over $2 million in his career as a daily Fantasy pro, and his NASCAR DFS driver pool, projections and advice can help you score a big win on Sunday.

McClure's model was red-hot in the 2023 season, nailing Martin Truex Jr.'s Clash win (20-1) as well as his win in New Hampshire (11-2), Joey Logano's Duel win (8-1), Kyle Busch's Fontana victory (10-1), Denny Hamlin's triumph in Kansas (6-1) and Kyle Larson's wins at Martinsville (6-1) and the NASCAR All-Star Race (13-2). The model correctly predicted winners in two playoff races as well, with Ryan Blaney scoring a 12-1 payout at Talladega and Larson winning at 9-2 in Las Vegas. It also impressively nailed five of Larson's wins during his historic season in 2021. All told, the model has nailed a whopping 18 winners since 2021 and nine last year alone. Anyone who followed its lead on those NASCAR picks saw huge returns.

It also called its first victory of the 2024 season with Larson winning again in Las Vegas for a 21-5 payout then predicted a Denny Hamlin's wins in Bristol at 5-1 and Richmond at 17-4. It impressively nailed five of Larson's wins during his historic season in 2021 too. All told, the model has nailed a whopping 18 winners since 2021 and hit nine last year alone! Anyone who followed its lead on those NASCAR picks saw huge returns.

Now, McClure has dialed in on the 2024 Wurth 400 and just locked in his sleepers, DFS projections and Fantasy NASCAR predictions. They are a must-see for any player looking for an edge. You can only see McClure's Wurth 400 2024 sleeper picks, DFS lineups and Fantasy NASCAR plays at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Wurth 400 DFS picks, lineup advice

One of McClure's top NASCAR at Dover DFS picks is Chase Elliott ($11,000 on FanDuel and $9,900 on DraftKings). Elliott has three top-five finishes over his last four races, including winning the EchoPark Automotive 400 on April 14. The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion is third in the standings this season in a bounce-back season after missing a chunk of last year after suffering a fractured left tibia in a snowboarding accident. Elliott finished 17th last year after back-to-back fourth-place results in the final NASCAR Cup Series standings.

But even in limited starts, Elliott showed his greatness and consistency. The 28-year-old had the 12th most top fives (seven) and top 10s (15) despite the missed time due to his injury. He's had recent success at NASCAR at Dover events as well, winning in 2022 with five top-five finishes over his last eight races at Dover Motor Speedway. Elliott has finished within the top 15 in eight of 10 starts this season and has led at least five laps in four straight races as a safe option for NASCAR DFS lineups.  You can see the rest of McClure's Wurth 400 DFS picks at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Wurth 400 Fantasy NASCAR rankings, projections

One sleeper McClure is targeting in his 2024 Wurth 400 Fantasy lineups is Ryan Blaney. He is a 14-1 longshot to win the Wurth 400, but the model projects him just outside the top five while making a run at the title. The 30-year-old is the defending NASCAR Cup Series champion and has finished in the top 10 in the final standings in each of the last seven seasons. Despite Blaney finishing 20th or worse in back-to-back races, he's still seventh in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series standings.

Blaney is one of six drivers with four top-five finishes over the first 10 races of the season with no driver recording five top-five results yet. Blaney finished third at NASCAR at Dover last year and has finished 12th or better in three of his last four runs at Dover Motor Speedway. He led 45 laps over that span and although some NASCAR Fantasy players may fade Blaney due to his recent poor showings, McClure has faith in a bounceback.  You can see the rest of McClure's Wurth 400 Fantasy NASCAR picks at SportsLine .

How to make Wurth 400 2024 picks, longshot bets

McClure is also targeting two drivers with odds of 14-1 or longer who will make a strong run at the checkered flag. Plus, get full NASCAR DFS picks and NASCAR Fantasy rankings.  Check out all of McClure's Wurth 400 picks and best bets at SportsLine .

Who will win the Wurth 400 2024, and which drivers should you target for your NASCAR DFS lineups, and Fantasy NASCAR plays this week at Dover Motor Speedway? Visit SportsLine now to get Mike McClure's Dover 400 2024 DFS lineups and Fantasy NASCAR plays , and find out.
