Taylor has a lot of awards under her belt, including being honored at the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame back in 2009. She received the award alongside Toby Keith; Taylor Swift, however, is the only of the two to still reside in Nashville. In 2009, Taylor Swift invested $2 million in a penthouse apartment in Midtown, Nashville, near Downtown Nashville. Located in the expensive Adelicia complex, the stylish apartment was featured by Katie Couric in 2012. Taylor gave the hostess a tour of the home and said that her design was inspired by Alice in Wonderland, giving off a cozy feel while also keeping it quirky and unique. • One downtown resident welcomed the return of the home tour to her condo after several years.
• Three out of the six properties were brand new. Alcove was featured before it officially opened to the public.

The Nashville Downtown Partnership's Downtown Home Tour recently celebrated its 18th year by taking Nashvillians behind the scenes at six different residential communities.

The annual self-guided tour promotes downtown living and gives people an inside look at private residences, high-rise rental apartment buildings and for-sale condos.

Three of the buildings spotlighted this year were brand new. One of them gave guests a sneak peek before officially opening.

“The Downtown Home Tour is a fun way to experience what more than 16,000 residents love about living in Nashville’s center city,” said Tamara Dickson, the partnership's vice president of economic development.

“Whether you are considering a move downtown, are interested in seeing fabulous designs and spaces, or are just looking for a fun way to see what’s new downtown, it’s truly a unique event for all ages and interests.”

Viridian resident welcomes return of home tour after 10 years

The first stop on this year's tour was a look inside three owner-occupied condos in Viridian, a 31-story condominium tower on Church Street, completed in 2006.

Laurie Sheinkopf's home was the first to welcome guests. Sheinkopf, wearing a pink blazer and matching bright pink lipstick, has lived in her condo for several years. In 2012, the real estate agent's downtown lifestyle was featured in The Tennessean. Her condo has been featured on the home tour in the past.

"If we can't walk there, we can't go," Sheinkopf told The Tennessean in 2012. She moved from a 3,600-square foot Franklin home and has lived in the Viridian condo ever since, enjoying the entertainment of downtown Nashville steps from her front door.

She has made her own improvements along the way — including combining her one-bedroom condo with a two bedroom next door. The result: a two bedroom, three bathroom condo, which is rare to see in the Viridian building, let alone downtown Nashville.

"My favorite part of the day was meeting everyone who walked in and telling them how much downtown has changed," Sheinkopf said. "I said many years ago that I never lived until I lived downtown. I still feel that way."

505 and Alcove offer new lifestyle options on Church Street

Standing on the rooftop pool deck at the Alcove, one of downtown Nashville's newest apartment buildings, it's hard to imagine the area without residents.

But, prior to 1996, it was a reality.

A zoning change allowed residents to move in, according to the Nashville Downtown Partnership, and the area has been growing ever since. When the organization first started the home tour in 2004, there were around 1,500 downtown units.

Now, there are more than 12,500 residential units, and the partnership forecasts the downtown population to reach 30,000 by the end of this decade.

Alcove is one part of that growth. Developed by Tony Giarratana, Alcove is 34 stories with 356 rental apartments ranging from studios to two-bedrooms. It complements Giarratana's 2017 project, 505 Church, and will soon be joined across the street by "Prime," a sister tower by the developer. Nearby, construction is continuing at the Downtown YMCA, which will also feature a shiny glass 60-story residential tower.

The three towers alone account for more than 1,200 luxury residential units on Church Street, solidifying a completely reimagined neighborhood.

Tour showcases The Gulch, SoBro properties

A combination of development and branding have expanded The Gulch's real estate conceptions along Division Street and across 8th Avenue. The latest examples are Hyve and Albion, both completed in 2023.

Hyve is specifically catered towards investors looking for short term rental properties. It features 83 floorplans with ample outdoor balcony space ranging from one to three bedrooms. Albion contains 415 rental units.

Josh Lansford, a real estate agent with IMPACT Properties, volunteered to help with this year's home tour. He said he has clients who are interested in investment properties, and he wanted to learn more about Hyve firsthand. He also had a lot of fun looking at the different properties featured on the home tour, he said.

"I'm glad I was able to connect with this," Lansford said. "It was a great time. I talked to a lot of different people and learned more about downtown properties for clients of mine looking to rent or buy."

The final stop on this year's tour showcased a downtown Nashville first: micro studios with a community living-model. Rutledge Flats features 174 studios under 200 square feet with community kitchens, living areas and laundry.

It's a far cry from the spacious units at Hyve or the luxurious finishes in Alcove, but the micro apartments have almost all been leased since the community opened.

A representative of the Downtown Partnership said the tour is meant to show a variety of homes.

"This year we showcased new projects that are being delivered to the market and properties that have had major renovations (Viridian) or offer unique qualities," an emailed statement read. "For example, we chose Rutledge Flats because it is downtown Nashville’s first microunit development with no parking on site and Alcove because it is downtown Nashville’s newest luxury high-rise."

When I spotted professional ice skater Scott Hamilton at a Titans Game, I looked him up and found that he and his wife Tracy live in Franklin — not too far away from Christian recording artist Michael W. Smith’s farm .

Johnny Cash Museum

Despite its small size, the Johnny Cash Museum manages to hold one of the world’s largest collections of Johnny Cash artifacts. Bill Miller, one of Cash’s closest friends, gathered and cataloged the country music superstar’s memorabilia for decades, resulting in this popular Nashville attraction and Cash-fan pilgrimage site.

Nashville Riverfront Park

Nashville’s Riverfront Park was built in the early 1980s on the site where the area’s first settlers founded the city back in 1780. Today the sprawling green enclave on the banks of the Cumberland River is home to several attractions, including Fort Nashborough, Bicentennial Park, and the Ascend Amphitheater.

No trip to Nashville is complete without a visit to Music Row. This is the home of the country music industry, with a slew of record labels, radio stations, and recording studios working side-by-side. There are also live venues on or near Music Row, to check out established artists as well as up-and-comers looking to break through.

Frist Art Museum

Lavish cream and green marble floors and wall paneling, high ceilings with and cast iron doors surround guests with the art deco charm of the Nashville’s original post office completed in 1934. The historically significant building kept its original charm through a public/private partnership-driven revamp into the non-profit Frist Art Museum in 2001. The space now holds art exhibitions, interactive art workshops as well as a gift shop and café. The Frist is a different kind of museum that does not have permanent collections. Instead, it sources a host of themed exhibits that roll through every six to eight weeks. Traveling national and international shows including classical pieces by Michelangelo and Monet have hung on Frist walls, as have collections of American folk art, modern photography, European classical works from the age of exploration and even an exhibit deconstructing Italian sports car design. The building’s 24,000 square feet of gallery space includes 30 interactive stations on the upper level for kids and families to get creative and make their own stop motion animation, printmaking, watercolor painting, etching, sculpture creation and more—some of these stations also rotate to match visiting exhibits. In the summer, Frist Fridays bring bands—also often tied to exhibit themes—to jam at the museum, and live music features year-round on Thursdays and Fridays in the Grand Lobby or café. Centennial Park

Like New York’s Central Park and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, the lush green landscape of Nashville’s Centennial Park provides welcome refuge from congestion, crowds, and bustling city life. The most notable, and possibly most out-of-place, feature of Centennial Park is its impressive Parthenon replica.

Tennessee State Capitol

The Tennessee State Capitol stands tall on Nashville’s highest hill as a symbol of its time, virtually unchanged since its construction in 1859. The structure is the masterpiece of notable architect William Strickland, who passed away during construction and was laid to rest in the building. The National Historic Landmark was built in Greek Revival style and is one of few state capitols without a dome. It was modeled after an Ionic Greek temple. Though classic in design, at the time it was considered innovative in construction. The capitol building is beautiful to see and historic to visit, with statues of many important political figures as well as the graves of President James K. Polk and his wife. Its walls are lined with beautiful murals, frescoes, and paintings, while its halls are lit by ornate chandeliers. It is still in use by the Tennessee state government today. It is the oldest operating state capitol in the country.

Bicentennial Capital Mall State Park

Opened on June 1, 1996, to mark the bicentennial of the founding of Nashville, the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park is both a popular recreational area and a scenic tribute to Tennessean history. In the shadows of the Tennessee State Capitol and stretching over 11 acres (4.5 hectares; it’s dotted with monuments, memorials, and open-air exhibits.

Tootsies Orchid Lounge

Nashville is known for its eclectic music scene, live entertainment, and commitment to country. Nowhere is this more evident than at the world-famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. An Artist's Creative Eye for Color Shapes This Nashville Home

The resulting palette is personal and harmonious with the outdoors.

First things first: light. Cypress devised a series of cased openings to bridge the private quarters at one end of the house, where the bedrooms are located, with the public areas at the other end, where Stern wanted a free-flowing space to throw parties and play pool and mah-jongg. Then the architect proposed a sunroom addition off the kitchen and living and dining rooms, connecting them with the garden and patio. “Now it’s a space that pulls you into the outdoors,” Cypress says.“Even when you aren’t physically outside, it almost feels like you are because there are so many windows and the ceiling height is so gracious.” Stern also asked to use as few recessed lights as possible. Bonesio delivered, except for a handful in the kitchen, sourcing a variety of flush-mount fixtures to spread light around. Next, color. From the beginning, she and Stern had fun with it, Bonesio says. An earthy, pink-toned terra-cotta emerged as a recurring theme, from the plaster walls of the dining room that doubles as an art salon to the reclaimed French parefeuille floors of the sunroom. It’s paired with blues—mostly Farrow & Ball Skylight , a pale blue-gray that brings out its warmth.

By the time the project was done, every detail had Stern’s personal touch—even the chickens’ roost in the barn (complete with its own chandelier). “I love when you have the opportunity to work with someone whose home really is a reflection of them,” Cypress says. “Her perspective made it so beautiful.”

Stern specified an all-wood island with no plumbing, so Cypress had one made in oak.

Across from the utility sink, cabinets painted in Benjamin Moore Sandblast (frames) and Sherwin-Williams Blustery Sky (shelves) and backed in Zak + Fox wallpaper hold Stern’s ceramics.

The “catbird seat” is what Cypress calls this idyllic corner off the kitchen for everyday meals. The blue ceiling makes the cheerful space feel even more connected to the outdoors.

Dining Room

Singer-songwriter Alan Jackson recently nabbed a new nest in Nashville, TN .

The country crooner laid out $3 million for the 6,003-square-foot, five-bedroom, 5.5-bath dwelling.

This newly built abode hit the market last spring for $3.7 million and received multiple price cuts before Jackson picked it up in January.

Previously, the musician owned a palatial property in nearby Franklin, TN . He put it on the market in 2020 for $23 million and reportedly sold it the following year for $19 million.
