Your Visa   Eligible Criteria for Visas

• A valid passport, where the expiry date is beyond the intended period of stay.
• A valid return or onward ticket to the country of origin or residence.
• A confirmed booking for accommodation – for example, a booking at a hotel. If the person travelling is being sponsored by a Mauritian citizen, they will need to produce evidence of sponsorship, stating their name, address, profession, relationship, national identity card number and telephone number.
• Sufficient funds to meet the costs of stay (US$100 per night).
• A pledge not to engage in any profit-making activities.

Application Procedure

• Duly filled and signed application forms are available at  http://passport.govmu.org  

Two recent passport-sized photographs;

A photocopy of data pages within the traveller’s passport; and a photocopy of the residence/re-Entry visa with three months validity, where applicable.

• An average of five working days is required for processing applications and for a visa to be issued, provided all relevant documents are submitted.

Citizens of most contries do not need a visa or may obtain a visa on arrival to Mauritius for tourism purpose.

Visa Requirements

A visa is an official acknowledgement issued by the Immigration Office/Embassy/Consular of Mauritius, indicating that your application to enter Mauritius has been reviewed by an Immigration Officer and that the officer has determined you are eligible to enter or transit in Mauritius for a specific purpose.

A visa, therefore, simply allows the bearer to travel to Mauritius up a port of entry and does not implicitly guarantee right of admission into Mauritius. The final decision to admit a non-citizen rests with the Immigration Officer after examination at the point of entry in Mauritius. He/she decides how long the person can stay for any particular visit.

The following are exempted from Visa Regulations:-

• Citizens of Mauritius;
• Persons who are residents of Mauritius under the Immigration Act;
• The Spouse of a citizen of Mauritius;
• The child or step child or lawfully adopted child of persons referred to at (1) and (2) above;
• Holders of Diplomatic Passports other than those issued by the Government of Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Libya, Palestine State, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Yemen;
• Crew of a vessel travelling on duty or in transit to join another vessel;
• Holders of Laissez-passer issued by the United Nations, COMESA, SADC or other internationally recognized organizations;
• Holders of passport issued by the INTERPOL who come to Mauritius on official mission;
• Holders of Laissez-passer issued by the African Reinsurance Corporation and the African Development Bank Group in Respect of their directors, officers or employees travelling to Mauritius on official mission;
• Holders of passport issued by Governments of countries belonging to the European Union; and
• Persons who intend to remain in Mauritius only during the stay of a vessel by which they arrive and depart.

Tourist Visa

• The tourist visa allows a non- citizen to visit Mauritius for a short time on vacation.
• The maximum period of (six) months may be granted in a calendar year on a case to case basis, subject to Immigration requirements.

Business visa

• The Business visa allows a non-citizen to travel to Mauritius for the purpose of establishing or conducting a business or investment.
• Businessman are entitled for a maximum of 120 days in a calendar year provided that during each trip the maximum stay does not exceed 90 days and that the non-citizen is not remunerated in Mauritius.

Social Visa

• Social visa is granted to non-citizens sponsored by socio-cultural organizations for a maximum period of 45 days to carry out social and religious activities.
• Non-citizens travelling to Mauritius for religious purposes should apply and obtain a social visa prior to travel.

Multiple Entry Visa

• Granted only to foreign business persons having business interest in Mauritius and who needs a visa prior to travel. For business facilitation, bona fide business persons may be granted multiple-entry visa subject to a maximum of 120 days in a calendar year and provided the stay during each trip does not exceed 90 days.

Transit visa

• Granted to passengers travelling to a third country within a period of 24 hours.

Medical Visa

• Medical visa is granted to foreign nationals coming to Mauritius for medical treatment to be provided in private health care institutions which are duly registered with the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life under the Private Health Institutions Act.
• Medical visa is granted on arrival for the duration of treatment, but not exceeding six (6) months.

Visa Requirement Country-wise

• Nationals of Guyana intended to travel to Mauritius should apply and obtain a visa prior to their travel.

Additional Information

• Non-citizens travelling to Mauritius without a visa (if required) may be repatriated to their country of origin or residence at the transporting carrier’s cost.
• Any person who stays in Mauritius after the expiry of the period for which he obtained a visa or entry permit as the case may be, shall commit an offence and shall be liable for prosecution by a Court of Law.
• Prospective students are advised to travel to Mauritius only after their application for study/training in Mauritius has been approved.
• Non-Citizens coming to celebrate their marriage in Mauritius should comply with the requirements of the Section 24A of the Civil Status Act .

Important information, the premium visa allows you to stay on the island for up to a year, with the chance to renew. it is open to tourists, retirees or professionals who can work remotely from the island. to qualify, you must meet the following criteria:.

• You can work remotely from the island but cannot enter the Mauritius labour market

Easy steps to get your visa

The Premium Visa aims to encourage foreign nationals to come and stay on the island of Mauritius.

It allows a non-citizen to stay in Mauritius for up to a year, with the chance to renew.

Any person from the list of countries listed below is eligible to apply for a Premium Visa.

A Premium Visa is required for those who intend to stay in Mauritius for a period exceeding 180 days in a calendar year.

Those staying for less than 180 days, a tourist visa is granted on arrival to Mauritius.

An application must be submitted online. The e-visa application may be submitted as from 16 November 2020.

In order to qualify for the Premium Visa, the applicant must have proof of his/her long stay plans and sufficient travel and health insurance for the initial period of stay. The following criteria should also be met:

• applicant should not enter the Mauritius labour market;
• the main place of business and/or source of income and profits should be outside Mauritius;
• documentary evidence to support application such as purpose of visit, accommodation etc.; and
• other basic immigration requirements.

Applying for a Premium Visa is a simple online process.

• a valid passport
• copy of air ticket (including return ticket)
• a passport size photo
• a valid email address
• Pre-accommodation bookings (for Quarantine and post-Quarantine)
• Travel and health insurance for the period of stay
• Proof of funds (bank statement or bank attestation) to meet the cost of stay in Mauritius or employment contract

Once you have finished completing the form, there is nothing left to do except to check your mailbox. The e-visa will be issued via email.

The Premium Visa application will be approved within 48 hours for applications made from Monday to Friday.

Applications submitted during the weekend will be approved on the next working day, i.e. on Monday.

Application can be made close to the intended departure date.

However, it is recommended that travellers submit an application well in advance of their intended departure date.

The Premium Visa is issued free of charge. There is no processing fee applicable.

All passengers under Premium Visa will have to go through the sanitary and health protocols established by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

A tourist visa is granted for a short period of leisure travel. Foreign nationals are granted tourist visa for a cumulative period of stay not exceeding 180 days in a calendar year.

Money spent in Mauritius through the use of foreign credit or debit cards would not be liable to tax.

A person becomes a tax resident and therefore is liable to tax in Mauritius if he spends 183 days or more in the country.

Mauritius attracts Expats from around the world. They come for natural beauty, remote areas, and a relaxed lifestyle. And it is not just nature; the island nation has a strong economy and a welcoming population. The government has viewed Mauritius’s immigration policy as a way to strengthen the economy and build the nation. As a result, those looking to immigrate have a wide range of Mauritius visas, work permits, and residency options. These allow many Expats to live and work here. We’ll explore all your options and cover each application process and fee.

Mauritius Visa and Residency options

Your options are split into six groups.

• Short-term recreational visits. This is for tourism and travel.
• Short-term business trips. This permit covers attending conferences, seminars, training, and meetings.
• Mauritius student visa. This study visa covers education, training, and internships.
• Long-term work permits. The Mauritius Occupation Permit allows you to live and work in the country.
• A long-term residence without working . These residence permits are perfect for retirees and people with an income from outside the country. This includes the new Premium Travel Visa for Long Stays.
• Permanent Residency (PR)

We’ll look at each of these in the sections below.

Short term visas

Mauritius tourist visa.

There are different entry requirements depending on your citizenship. Please see Appendix 1 to see which category your nationality is.

• The majority of nationals can visit for 90 days without a visa. This group includes the SCHENGEN area states, the European Union, South Africa, the UK, and the USA.
• Sixty nationalities are eligible for a 60-day visa on arrival at a port of entry. This is the visa for Indians visiting for tourism. Indian nationals do not have to apply for a visa from India prior to travel.
• Five nationalities are eligible for a 14-day visa on arrival.
• There are 16 nationalities that must apply for a visa required prior to traveling. You’ll need to apply to the Mauritius embassy or consulate in your home country prior to travel.

This map shows the countries eligible for each tourist visa category. We have also listed each country’s category in Appendix 1 below.

All travelers must have:

• A valid passport with at least six months validity and a blank visa page.
• A return ticket that shows you leaving while your visa is valid.
• Enough money is available to cover the cost of your stay in Mauritius.

You can only visit on repeated tourist or business visas for a maximum of 180 days in a calendar year.

There is no fee for the tourist visa or a tourist visa extension.

Mauritius Business Visa

You’ll need this visa if you are visiting for professional purposes. You can’t be working to earn money in Mauritius. Acceptable activities include:

• Conferences
• Training courses or activities

The business visa is issued on arrival for the citizens of most countries. You’ll need a letter or invitation from the organizers that explains the reason for traveling. On arrival at one of the airports in Mauritius, show this to the Mauritius immigration official. They’ll issue the business visa on the spot.

The exception is citizens from visa-restricted countries. You’ll need to apply in advance if you are from one of the restricted countries on the list. The application must be to your home country’s nearest Mauritius embassy or consulate.

The business visa has the same restrictions as the tourist visa, namely:

• A current passport with at least six months validity from your arrival date.
• Enough money is available to cover the cost of your stay.

You can only stay on repeated tourist visas or business visas for a maximum of 180 days in a calendar year.

There is no fee for the business visa or a business visa extension.

Mauritius Wedding Visa

If you are just visiting for your wedding, you can arrive with a short-term visitor visa. Please see the Tourist Visa section for details. However, you’ll need to say that you are getting married in your application or at the port of entry.

Everyone who wants to get married in Mauritius will need to get prior authorization for the wedding approved in advance. Some administration must be done before you arrive, and with local authorities in Port Louis. We’d recommend working with a local expert in this area to ensure your special day goes smoothly.

Best to get everything moving at least a month before your wedding to ensure a perfect day. But you can arrive just a day or two before the wedding as long as you have everything sorted.

Mauritius Student Visa

Mauritius has a history of investment in education. Education is free for citizens of Mauritius . As a result, the standard of a Mauritian education is very high.

There are two universities, the University of Mauritius  and the  University of Technology . In addition, there is a range of colleges and Technical and Vocational Educational and Training (TVET) institutions offering tertiary study in many areas.

Mauritius welcomes international students for a degree, diploma, and technical certification courses.

And a student visa can be a pathway to permanent residency (PR) and citizenship .

Any non-citizen can apply for a Mauritius student visa. There are two parts to the program.

Education student visa

To qualify for this residence permit, you just need a place on an approved course. Appropriate educational institutions must offer the course.

Areas of studies that qualify include:

• Courses (of at least one academic year) leading to a certificate or diploma.
• Undergraduate or postgraduate degrees (including Masters, MPhil, or Doctoral level).
• Postdoctoral research.
• An exchange program with a recognized tertiary education institution. There is a one-year limit on the student visa for exchange programs.

Experience residency student visa

For this Mauritius student visa, you must secure an unpaid position (but a stipend to offset expenses). The work must build your experience in your career or profession. Positions could include:

• Practical training.
• Industrial placements (“stage”).
• Unpaid internships.

You must already have a degree to qualify for this residency permit.

Mauritius Work Permit or Occupation Permit

The Occupation Permit (OP) is a work permit and residence permit. It allows you to live and work in Mauritius . The OP is a pathway to permanent residency (PR).

With all occupation permits, your dependents are also eligible for Mauritius residency. Dependents who are eligible include:

• Your spouse.
• Common-Law Partner of the opposite sex
• Your child or children under 24 years old.
• Your parents.

However, they’ll need their own occupation permit if they want to work. The residency permit application fee for dependents is MUR5,000 per dependent.

There are four separate categories of work permits available to you. Please see the sections below to choose the correct option. If you are unsure of the best option or want help with the application process, our Mauritius immigration partner can help.

Professional Mauritius occupation permit

This work permit is for skilled professionals with an employment contract from a Mauritian employer. You can find the job yourself or use a recruiting agent.

For most sectors, you must earn an income exceeding MUR 60,000 (or around USD$1,500) per month.

Selected industries have a lower threshold. The minimum salary is at least MUR 30,000 (or around USD$1,500) per month for these sectors:

• Information and communication technologies (ICT)
• Business process outsourcing (BPO)
• Pharmaceutical manufacturing and food processing

The professional occupation permit is for three years (or the contract length). You can renew this work permit when it expires.

The application fee for the Professional OP varies by contract length. The fee is MUR 15,000 for contracts of up to two years. For contracts of up to three years, the application is MUR 20,000.

Young professional Mauritius occupation permit

Mauritius has a Post-Study Work visa . It is called the Young Professional Occupation Permit (YPOP). This visa is for international students who have completed at least an undergraduate degree in Mauritius.

There are conditions for this work permit.

You must have a contract with a Mauritian company. Your employer of record must be in one of the following areas:

• Artificial Intelligence
• Biotechnology
• Financial Services
• Information Technology

You must also apply for a work permit within six months of completing your study in Mauritius.

The visa is valid for three years. It is not renewable, but after three years, your employer can apply for a Professional Occupation Permit on your behalf.

The visa application for the Young Professional OP varies by contract length.

• Not more than one year – MUR 5,000
• Between one and two years – MUR 7,500
• Between two and three years – MUR 10,000

Self-employed Mauritius occupation permit

To be eligible for this visa, you must work for yourself in a one-person business. Only people working in the service sector are eligible.

You’ll need to transfer the equivalent of USD$35,000 into your local bank account before you apply.

The visa is valid for ten years. It is renewable as long as you can show your business’s success. To do this, you’ll need to show you made at least MUR 800,000 (around USD$20,000) per year. The first two years are excluded, as the government recognizes that starting a business takes time.

The application fee for the Self-Employed OP is MUR 20,000.

Investor Mauritius occupation permit

If you intend to invest in a new or existing business in Mauritius, this work permit is for you.

To be eligible for the work permit, you must:

• Be a shareholder or director of a company incorporated in Mauritius under the Companies Act 2001 .

And meet one of the following four options.

• Invest the equivalent of at least USD$50,000 into the business. This amount must be transferred from a personal bank account in your home country to the company account in Mauritius.
• Be the founder of an innovative business. You’ll need to submit a plan to the EDB or be accepted into a Mauritius incubator. A significant portion of expenses must be budgeted for R&D, but there is no minimum investment amount.
• Over the last three years, you have invested at least USD$50,000 into a business. Also, the company must show an accumulated turnover of at least MUR 12,000,000 (around USD$300,000) over the previous three years.
• You inherited a share in a business in Mauritius. The company must have had an accumulated turnover of more than MUR 12,000,000 (around USD$300,000) over the previous three years.

The visa is issued for up to 10 years. You can renew the residency permit after ten years as long as you show the company has succeeded. To do this, you’ll need to show revenue of at least MUR 4,000,000 (around USD$100,000) per year. Again, the first two years are excluded, so the requirement is from the third year of the visa.

Multiple investors in the same company can apply for individual occupation permits. To do this, each must have individually met one of the investment criteria above.

The application fee for the Investor OP is MUR 20,000.

Mauritius Family Visas

The Marriage, Partner, or Spousal Visa works as a residence permit for a Mauritius spouse. The spouse of a Mauritian citizen or permanent resident is eligible for this visa.

In most cases, the visa will allow you to work. The Family Visa is also a pathway to permanent residence (PR).

Occupation permit holders can also apply for dependents, including a spouse, children, and parents, to be included on the permit.

Mauritius Premium Travel Visa for Long Stays

This exciting new visa was introduced in October 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mauritius has had an excellent response to the pandemic, with no lockdown and no local transmission since April 2020.

Four groups will benefit most from the premium travel visa for long stays.

• Long-term tourists with enough money to live on.
• Retirees with savings, a pension, or an income.
• Remote workers.
• Location-independent businesses, freelancers, and digital nomads.

You cannot work for a local company or client while on a Premium Travel visa. You’d need an Occupation Permit for that. But, you can work for an international, freelance, or location-independent business that earns money from outside the country.

The premium travel visa will be valid for one year. What’s more, your family can come with you as this visa covers them too.

You’ll need to show the immigration department several things for a successful application.

• Proof of funds to support yourself
• Where you’ll be staying
• Adequate Expat health and travel insurance
• Other standard requirements may include passports, police checks, etc.

Mauritius Retirement Visa

For many, retiring to paradise would be a dream come true. There is a residency permit that makes retiring in Mauritius possible for lots of people.

The Mauritius Residence Permit as a Retired Non-Citizen is available to anyone 50 years and older.

To be eligible, you must transfer at least the equivalent of USD$1,500 per month to support yourself. The transfer must be from your personal account in your home country to your personal account in Mauritius.

The visa is valid for ten years. You can renew indefinitely as long as you meet the financial criteria. You must show that you regularly transferred money to Mauritius. The minimum amount is USD$18,000 each year for the last ten years of your retirement in Mauritius.

The application fee for the Mauritius retirement visa is MUR 20,000.

As a retired non-citizen, the retirement visa can be a pathway to permanent residency (PR).

Mauritius Residency by Investment Visa

Mauritius has a very simple residency-by-investment scheme. The Economic Development Board manages the program. There are two options:

• You can acquire residency in Mauritius by merely buying a property. To be eligible, the property must be:
• From an approved Property Development scheme (PDS). The PDS has replaced the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS) and Residential Estate Scheme (RES).
• Have a purchase price of at least the equivalent of USD$375,000.

This Residency by Investment visa is valid as long as you own the property.

Be aware: you cannot work in Mauritius under the terms of this program. If you do want to work, you’ll need to apply for one of the Mauritius work permits detailed above.

Investing in a business gives you a 20-year Mauritius permanent resident status. The investment must be at least USD$375,000 in a qualifying business. The sectors that are eligible include:

• Agro-based industry
• Audio-visual
• Cinema and Communication
• Construction
• Environment-friendly and green energy products
• Fisheries and Marine Resources
• Infrastructure
• Manufacturing
• Marina development
• Tourism and Warehousing
• Initial Public Offerings.

For both of these Residency by Investment programs, your dependents are eligible for Mauritius residency if your application is successful.

Can I transfer my Mauritius visa, work permit, or residence permit?

Yes, but depending on your current permission and the required change, you must meet some conditions.

From a tourist visa

You must enter Mauritius on a tourist visa for many occupation and residency permits to complete the application in person. Once your residency permit is granted, you’ll transfer from the tourist visa to your new immigration status.

This process means you can come to Mauritius on a tourist visa, and then select a residency permit that suits you.

From an occupation permit

If you are transferring from an existing occupation permit, you’ll need documents showing the cancellation of your old permit.

These could include:

• A cancellation letter from the investor, self-employed person, or retiree.
• A cancellation letter from your old employer. You’ll also need a letter from them stating they have no objection to the change of occupation permit.

If one of your dependents wants to work in Mauritius, they can transfer to an appropriate work permit. You’ll need to write a cancellation letter for their dependent residency.

You can also transfer from an occupation permit or a retirement visa to Mauritius permanent residency (PR). Please see the Mauritius PR section below for more details.

Mauritius Permanent Residency permit (PR)

Existing visa and residency permit holders can apply for Mauritius permanent resident (PR) status. The permanent residence is not exactly permanent. Instead, the immigration department issues a permanent residency permit for 20 years, but you can renew it indefinitely.

You can apply for a transfer to the PR permit from these OP programs:

• Investor Occupation Permit. You must show that your investment has succeeded for at least three years. To do this, show a total turnover of at least MUR 45,000,000 for a three-year period.
• Professional Occupation Permit. Show at least three years of a salary of more than MUR 150,000 in your sponsoring job.
• Self-Employed Occupation Permit. Your occupation permit business must be successful. This requirement means showing a turnover of at least MUR 3,000,000 for three consecutive years.

You can also qualify for a permanent residence permit from a Mauritius retirement visa.

To qualify, you must have transferred at least USD$54,000 per year to Mauritius for three years.

You can also access Mauritius PR through the residency by investment program. Please see the section above for details.

Mauritius visa and residency application process

In general, you’ll apply for your visa or permit pre-approval online. At this point, you’ll upload copies of all your documents.

Once your pre-approval comes through, you’ll need to travel to Mauritius. You’ll enter Mauritius on a tourist or business visa.

Once in Mauritius, you’ll meet with the Mauritius department of immigration to present your application and documentation in person. And when your application is processed, you are legally resident in Mauritius.

There are some standard requirements for most long-term visa and residency permit applications.

• A completed application form.
• A valid passport.
• Your birth certificate.
• Medical clearance certificate issued in Mauritius and less than six months old.
• Certificate of Character /Police Clearance covering the last ten years (less than 6 months old).
• Standard security questions.
• One recent color passport-size digital photograph of 3.5 cm (413 pixels) x 4.5 cm (531 pixels) (less than six-month-old).
• Your visa or residency permit processing fee.

The permanent residency (PR) application process is a little different. The exact process and requirements will depend on your PR pathway and your circumstances.

I am debating between Mauritius or Panama. I am a Canadian born citizen, a 68 year old men in good health, divorced with no kids and no police record. The monthly government pension here is kind of low, the equivalent of around US$500, but my earnings from my 100% own Canadian company are sufficient for me to live very well for life in either Country. After some reading about Mauritius residency requirements, I found out that the minimum requirement is to live in Mauritius 170 days per year (which would be amazing) but are there other financial requirements? For the Mauritius retirement visa, you need to show in your application that you are able to support yourself once you immigrate to Mauritius. Over a million travelers visit Mauritius, with numbers growing each year for this luxurious East African island destination.

Foreign nationals from more than 110+ countries can travel to Mauritius visa-free. Depending on the purpose of travel to Mauritius, all other foreign travelers should apply for the appropriate Mauritius visa, prior to their trip to Mauritius, or, if eligible, obtain a visa-on-arrival at a Mauritius port of entry. Mauritius also offers the Mauritius Premium Travel Visa to eligible foreign citizens, wishing to stay in Mauritius long-term, for up to one year with their families, for purposes of tourism, retirement, or professional or remote work activities. The Mauritius premium travel visa can be applied for online, while all other Mauritius visas can be applied for at the nearest Mauritius embassy, consulate, or representation office abroad.

The Mauritius visa normally allows for a maximum period of 180 days within a calendar year for the Mauritius tourist visa, 120 days for the Mauritius business visa, 45 days for the Mauritius social visa, 24 hours for the Mauritius transit visa, and one year for the Mauritius premium travel visa.

If you are a foreign national required to apply for a Mauritius visa, prior to traveling to Mauritius, you should apply for the appropriate Mauritius visa, based on the purpose of your trip to Mauritius. The Mauritius visa types are:

• The Mauritius tourist visa is for foreign nationals traveling to Mauritius for short-term tourism activities, allowing a maximum stay period of 180 days within a one-year calendar period.
• The Mauritius business visa is for foreign nationals traveling to Mauritius for business or investment activities, allowing a maximum stay period of 120 days within a one-year calendar period, with each individual trip not to exceed 90 days.
• The Mauritius social visa is for foreign nationals traveling to Mauritius for social or religious purposes, allowing a maximum stay period of 45 days within a one-year calendar period.
• The Mauritius multiple entry visa is for foreign nationals traveling to Mauritius for business or investment activities, allowing multiple entry into Mauritius, with a maximum stay period of 120 days within a one-year calendar period, each individual trip not to exceed 90 days.
• The Mauritius transit visa is for foreign nationals passing through Mauritius on their way to another destination within a 24-hour period.
• The Mauritius medical visa is for foreign nationals traveling to Mauritius for medical treatment purposes in a registered private healthcare institution, allowing a stay in Mauritius for the duration of the health treatment, not to exceed 6 months within one year.
• The Mauritius Premium travel visa is for eligible foreign citizens and their families, wishing to stay in Mauritius for up to one year for tourism, retirement, or professional or remote work.

Mauritius Visa Requirements

The following are required when applying for a Mauritius visa:

Applicant should have a valid passport or travel document, with a photocopy of the passport data pages.

The applicant is required to submit 2 recent, passport-size photos.

Applicant should provide an airline ticket, exiting Mauritius for another destination.

Applicant should provide hotel reservations or proof of lodging, or a letter of invitation by a Mauritius citizen, including invitee’s ID, address, and proof of sponsorship.

Applicant should provide proof of means during stay in Mauritius, in the form of bank statements or salary slips for the past 3 months.

Applicant should fill out a Mauritius visa application form.

Certain Mauritius visas require additional information, such as business or official invitations, academic acceptance letters, medical reports, and others.

Please note that minors applying for a Mauritius visa are required to provide a parental consent letter, birth certificate, and copies of parents’ passports.

In addition to the basic requirements listed above, the following are also required when applying for a Mauritius premium travel visa:

To be eligible to apply for the Mauritius premium visa, applicants should not work in the Mauritius labor market, and the majority of their income should come from outside Mauritius.

Applicant should have travel health insurance coverage during the length of their stay in Mauritius.

Applicant should fill out a Mauritius premium travel visa application form online.

Mauritius Visa Application Steps

Foreign nationals applying for a Mauritius visa should follow these steps:

Fill out a Mauritius application form with your personal details and other requested information.

• Contact your nearest Mauritius embassy, consulate or representation office to set an appointment. • Submit the Mauritius visa application form and all required documents at your nearest Mauritius embassy, consulate, or foreign mission abroad. • Pay the Mauritius visa application fees.

• Collect approved Mauritius visa from the Mauritius embassy, consulate, or representation office where you applied. • Make sure all information on the visa is correct and matches your passport.

Foreign nationals applying online for a Mauritius premium travel visa should follow these steps:

• Fill out application and other requested information at the Mauritius Business Licensing Platform • Upload required documents

• If approved, receive your Mauritius premium travel visa to the email you provided. • Verify the visa information is correct and matches your passport.

Foreign nationals applying for a Mauritius visa should do so at their nearest Mauritius embassy, consulate, or foreign mission abroad. The Mauritius premium travel visa can be applied for online at the Mauritius Business Licensing Platform.

A. STATUTORY NUMBERS FOR PREFERENCE IMMIGRANT VISAS

This bulletin summarizes the availability of immigrant numbers during January  for: “Final Action Dates” and “Dates for Filing Applications,” indicating when immigrant visa applicants should be notified to assemble and submit required documentation to the National Visa Center.

Unless otherwise indicated on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website at  www.uscis.gov/visabulletininfo , individuals seeking to file applications for adjustment of status with USCIS must use the “Final Action Dates” charts below for determining when they can file such applications. When USCIS determines that there are more immigrant visas available for the fiscal year than there are known applicants for such visas, USCIS will state on its website that applicants may instead use the “Dates for Filing Visa Applications” charts in this Bulletin. 

1.  Procedures for determining dates. Consular officers are required to report to the Department of State documentarily qualified applicants for numerically limited visas; USCIS reports applicants for adjustment of status. Allocations in the charts below were made, to the extent possible, in chronological order of reported priority dates, for demand received by December 4th . If not all demand could be satisfied, the category or foreign state in which demand was excessive was deemed oversubscribed. The final action date for an oversubscribed category is the priority date of the first applicant who could not be reached within the numerical limits. If it becomes necessary during the monthly allocation process to retrogress a final action date, supplemental requests for numbers will be honored only if the priority date falls within the new final action date announced in this bulletin. If at any time an annual limit were reached, it would be necessary to immediately make the preference category “unavailable”, and no further requests for numbers would be honored.

2.  The fiscal year 2024 limit for family-sponsored preference immigrants determined in accordance with Section 201 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) is 226,000.  The worldwide level for annual employment-based preference immigrants is at least 140,000.  Section 202 prescribes that the per-country limit for preference immigrants is set at 7% of the total annual family-sponsored and employment-based preference limits, i.e., 25,620.  The dependent area limit is set at 2%, or 7,320.

3.  INA Section 203(e) provides that family-sponsored and employment-based preference visas be issued to eligible immigrants in the order in which a petition in behalf of each has been filed. Section 203(d) provides that spouses and children of preference immigrants are entitled to the same status, and the same order of consideration, if accompanying or following to join the principal. The visa prorating provisions of Section 202(e) apply to allocations for a foreign state or dependent area when visa issuances will exceed the per-country limit. These provisions apply at present to the following oversubscribed chargeability areas:  CHINA-mainland born, INDIA, MEXICO, and PHILIPPINES. 

4.  Section 203(a) of the INA prescribes preference classes for allotment of Family-sponsored immigrant visas as follows: 

FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCES

First : ( F1 ) Unmarried Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens:  23,400 plus any numbers not required for fourth preference.

Second : Spouses and Children, and Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Permanent Residents:  114,200, plus the number (if any) by which the worldwide family preference level exceeds 226,000, plus any unused first preference numbers:

A. ( F2A ) Spouses and Children of Permanent Residents:  77% of the overall second preference limitation, of which 75% are exempt from the per-country limit;

B. ( F2B ) Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older) of Permanent Residents:  23% of the overall second preference limitation.

Third : ( F3 ) Married Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens:  23,400, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences.

Fourth : ( F4 ) Brothers and Sisters of Adult U.S. Citizens:  65,000, plus any numbers not required by first three preferences.

A.   FINAL ACTION DATES FOR FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCE CASES

On the chart below, the listing of a date for any class indicates that the class is oversubscribed (see paragraph 1); "C" means current, i.e., numbers are authorized for issuance to all qualified applicants; and "U" means unauthorized, i.e., numbers are not authorized for issuance. (NOTE: Numbers are authorized for issuance only for applicants whose priority date is earlier than the final action date listed below.)

For January, F2A numbers  EXEMPT from per-country limit  are authorized for issuance to applicants from all countries with priority dates  earlier  than 22OCT19. F2A numbers  SUBJECT to per-country limit  are authorized for issuance to applicants chargeable to all countries EXCEPT MEXICO , with priority dates beginning 22OCT19 and earlier than 01NOV19. All F2A numbers provided for MEXICO are exempt from the per-country limit.

B.  DATES FOR FILING FAMILY-SPONSORED VISA APPLICATIONS

The chart below reflects dates for filing visa applications within a timeframe justifying immediate action in the application process. Applicants for immigrant visas who have a priority date earlier than the application date in the chart below may assemble and submit required documents to the Department of State’s National Visa Center, following receipt of notification from the National Visa Center containing detailed instructions. The application date for an oversubscribed category is the priority date of the first applicant who cannot submit documentation to the National Visa Center for an immigrant visa. If a category is designated “current,” all applicants in the relevant category may file applications, regardless of priority date.

The “C” listing indicates that the category is current, and that applications may be filed regardless of the applicant’s priority date. The listing of a date for any category indicates that only applicants with a priority date which is earlier than the listed date may file their application.

Visit www.uscis.gov/visabulletininfo for information on whether USCIS has determined that this chart can be used (in lieu of the chart in paragraph 4.A.) this month for filing applications for adjustment of status with USCIS. 

5.  Section 203(b) of the INA prescribes preference classes for allotment of Employment-based immigrant visas as follows: 

EMPLOYMENT-BASED PREFERENCES

First :  Priority Workers:  28.6% of the worldwide employment-based preference level, plus any numbers not required for fourth and fifth preferences.

Second :  Members of the Professions Holding Advanced Degrees or Persons of Exceptional Ability:  28.6% of the worldwide employment-based preference level, plus any numbers not required by first preference.

Third :  Skilled Workers, Professionals, and Other Workers:  28.6% of the worldwide level, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences, not more than 10,000 of which to "*Other Workers".

Fourth :  Certain Special Immigrants:  7.1% of the worldwide level.

Fifth :  Employment Creation:  7.1% of the worldwide level, of which 32% are reserved as follows: 20% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in a rural area; 10% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in a high unemployment area; and 2% reserved for qualified immigrants who invest in infrastructure projects. The remaining 68% are unreserved and are allotted for all other qualified immigrants.

A.  FINAL ACTION DATES FOR EMPLOYMENT-BASED PREFERENCE CASES

*Employment Third Preference Other Workers Category: Section 203(e) of the Nicaraguan and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) passed by Congress in November 1997, as amended by Section 1(e) of Pub. L. 105-139, provides that once the Employment Third Preference Other Worker (EW) cut-off date has reached the priority date of the latest EW petition approved prior to November 19, 1997, the 10,000 EW numbers available for a fiscal year are to be reduced by up to 5,000 annually beginning in the following fiscal year. This reduction is to be made for as long as necessary to offset adjustments under the NACARA program. Since the EW final action date reached November 19, 1997 during Fiscal Year 2001, the reduction in the EW annual limit to 5,000 began in Fiscal Year 2002. For Fiscal Year 2024 this reduction will be limited to approximately 150.

B.  DATES FOR FILING OF EMPLOYMENT-BASED VISA APPLICATIONS

The chart below reflects dates for filing visa applications within a timeframe justifying immediate action in the application process. Applicants for immigrant visas who have a priority date earlier than the application date in the chart may assemble and submit required documents to the Department of State’s National Visa Center, following receipt of notification from the National Visa Center containing detailed instructions. The application date for an oversubscribed category is the priority date of the first applicant who cannot submit documentation to the National Visa Center for an immigrant visa. If a category is designated “current,” all applicants in the relevant category may file, regardless of priority date.

B .   DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT (DV) CATEGORY FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY

Section 203(c) of the INA provides up to 55,000 immigrant visas each fiscal year to permit additional immigration opportunities for persons from countries with low admissions during the previous five years.  The NACARA stipulates that beginning with DV-99, and for as long as necessary, up to 5,000 of the 55,000 annually allocated diversity visas will be made available for use under the NACARA program.  This will result in reduction of the DV-2024 annual limit to approximately 54,850.  DV visas are divided among six geographic regions. No one country can receive more than seven percent of the available diversity visas in any one year.

For January , immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2024 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers  BELOW  the specified allocation cut-off number:

Entitlement to immigrant status in the DV category lasts only through the end of the fiscal (visa) year for which the applicant is selected in the lottery. The year of entitlement for all applicants registered for the DV-2024 program ends as of September 30, 2024. DV visas may not be issued to DV-2024 applicants after that date. Similarly, spouses and children accompanying or following to join DV-2024 principals are only entitled to derivative DV status until September 30, 2024. DV visa availability through the very end of FY-2024 cannot be taken for granted. Numbers could be exhausted prior to September 30.

C.   THE DIVERSITY (DV) IMMIGRANT CATEGORY RANK CUT-OFFS WHICH WILL APPLY IN FEBRUARY

For February , immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2024 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers  BELOW  the specified allocation cut-off number:

D.   EMPLOYMENT FOURTH PREFERENCE (SR) RELIGIOUS WORKERS CATEGORY EXTENDED

H.R. 6363, signed on November 16, 2023, extended the Employment Fourth Preference Certain Religious Workers (SR) category until February 2, 2024.  No SR visas may be issued overseas, or final action taken on adjustment of status cases, after midnight February 1, 2024.  Visas issued prior to that date will be valid only until February 1, 2024, and all individuals seeking admission in the non-minister special immigrant category must be admitted (repeat admitted) into the United States no later than midnight February 1, 2024. 

The SR category is subject to the same final action dates as the other Employment Fourth Preference categories per applicable foreign state of chargeability.

China Expands Visa-Waiver Program List: More Countries Added

For years, China has been the gift that kept on giving to global tourism, sending millions of its citizens to explore, shop and snap selfies worldwide. Now, it's telling global travelers, "Your turn!" And if visa hassles are a deal-breaker, the country knows that removing them can only sweeten the deal.

China is opening its doors even wider to the world. Australia is now the latest country to join China’s expanding visa waiver program.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang made the announcement on Monday during an official visit to Australia, marking a significant step in strengthening ties between the two nations.

“We agreed to provide each other with reciprocal access to five-year multiple entry visas for tourism, business, and visiting family members to better facilitate personal exchanges. China will also include Australia in its visa waiver program,” stated Premier Qiang.

Australia’s national airline Qantas announced last month it was leaving Mainland China just six months after returning to the market. Speaking to Skift, the carrier’s International CEO said “Getting out of China at that point was the right call from our perspective.”

China has yet to detail the specifics of the new visa waiver arrangement, but the announcement closely follows a similar decision concerning New Zealand passport holders.

Just last Thursday, Premier Qiang declared visa-free entry for New Zealand citizens. “China is ready to discuss with New Zealand to introduce more measures to facilitate two-way travel,” Qiang mentioned, highlighting China’s move to ease travel restrictions.

In the past year, China has incrementally broadened its visa-free access to various countries.

China’s Visa-Free Travel Initiatives

In November, China introduced a one-year trial for visa-free travel for citizens of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia. In March, China expanded this program to include Ireland, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

China initially announced the visa-free policy for a trial period until November 30 this year, but has now extended it until December 31, 2025.

With the recent additions of Australia and New Zealand, the number of nations enjoying visa-free entry to China now totals 14. Passport holders from these countries can stay in China for up to 15 days for tourism, business, family visits, or transit purposes.

China also signed a 30-day mutual visa exemption agreement with Singapore and a similar arrangement with Thailand, effective March 1, allowing visa-free visits of up to 30 days per entry. It has also eased visa requirements for U.S. citizens visiting the country on tourist visas, removing the need to provide proof of round-trip air tickets, hotel reservations, itineraries, or invitation letters.

The Chinese government has also relaxed entry regulations for tourists arriving via cruise ships. As of May 15, such visitors can stay in China visa-free for up to 15 days.

China’s Inbound Recovery Lags Behind

The initiatives are part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate China’s tourism sector, which has been struggling to regain its pre-pandemic momentum.

China’s inbound recovery has been gradual. In 2023, China welcomed 35.5 million foreign visitors, which is only about 36% of the 97.7 million recorded in 2019.

However, Chinese online travel agency Trip.com Group notes promising signs of resurgence. During the Lunar New Year in February, the group reported a tenfold increase in inbound travel bookings compared to the previous year, with significant interest from Japan, the U.S., South Korea, Malaysia, Australia, the U.K., Canada, Vietnam, Germany and Thailand.

Moreover, Trip.com Group noted that international travelers are extending their stays in China. The average duration during the Spring Festival increased to just over two days, compared to under two days the previous year. The booking window for travel to China had also expanded from six days in 2023 to 39 days in 2024.

More Inbound Boosters

To further enhance the travel experience for international tourists, China has strengthened partnerships with major payment organizations like Ant Group and Mastercard. The International Consumer Friendly Zones program in Shanghai, has been launched in collaboration with 12 overseas payment partners of Alipay+ and other major international card organizations.

It aims to make transactions smoother for global travelers.

Statistics from the first quarter of this year show a threefold increase in foreign travelers to China compared to the same period in 2023. During this time, China issued 466,000 visas and documents to foreigners, marking a 119% year-on-year increase, and nearly 1.99 million foreigners entered China visa-free, a 266% year-on-year rise.

Highlighting the economic potential of inbound tourism, Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group, stated, “China’s inbound tourism has huge potential, and if it is raised to the international median of 1.5% of GDP, it could yield a growth of over RMB 1.3 trillion ($179 billion).”
