15 Best Picnic Places to Visit Near Ahmedabad for One / Two Days Trip

Published By: Jignesh Gohel on April 21, 2024

Being a moderator at Ahmedabad’s most popular Facebook groups “Travelaholics of Ahmedabad” & “TheIndia”, we used to receive hundreds of queries about the best places to visit near Ahmedabad. I did a detailed analysis about the common questions we are receiving and which includes:

 • Which are the best picnic places near Ahmadabad?
 • Suggest the best resorts near Ahmedabad to go and relax with family for an overnight stay.
 • Which are the best places to visit near Ahmedabad for one day picnic with family, friends, or office staff?
 • Any picnic places near Ahmedabad having games & other fun activities where we can spend whole day?
 • Which is the best weekend getaway from Ahmadabad?
 • Suggest the best places near Ahmedabad for school picnics etc..

And the list is very long, but We tried to include the most common questions we received so far.

Ahmedabad being the seventh largest city in India and the biggest in Gujarat is a major base of occupation, business and trade for industrial and financial growth of the state. Being unknown from the nearby city’s wealth of picnic spots and resorts, Amdavadis complaint about finding no nearby picnic spot to spend the weekend with family and friends in complete peace and have fun all together. If you are in Pune or Mumbai, you can easily find plenty of weekend getaway but when it comes to Ahmedabad, you will have limited options to explore.

Table of Contents

Common FAQs related to one / two days picnic places near Ahmedabad

The answer to this question is very tricky as the choice will be different from person to person depending upon his / her interest. We will list down all different type of picnic spot you can choose from in this article.

As there are many places available, single article is not enough to list the places which are located near Ahmadabad and easily accessible by road which includes resorts, Amusement parks, historical monuments and public places. This is the reason, we have decided to create separate article categorized by the theme and relevancy of the places and activities.

In our series, the articles are decided in to 3 below parts:

 • Picnic Places – Public places where you can directly visit without prior booking or with due permission from the government. The current article will cover those places and detailed information.
 • Picnic / Weekend Resorts – Private places like resorts / hotels or fun parks you can directly visit or can book your trip in advance. We have created dedicated article to cover private properties and resorts located near Ahmedabad for day trip or weekend stay.
 • Places to Visit in Ahmedabad – This article / section is covering tourist places like temple, river front, picnic spots or any public places which are located in Ahmedabad.

You can visit respective article depending upon your requirement. It will save your time and can easily choose the place to plan your day trip or tour within or near by Ahmedabad.

Lets start this article with our recommended picnic places near Ahmedabad for a weekend or day trip.

List of Picnic Places Near Ahmedabad:

If you are looking for public places you can visit for a day trip, there are limited options available. In this section of the article, we tried to cover 14 most popular and easy to access public places near Ahmedabad. The most common type are historical monuments, temple, public parks, forest area or bird sanctuaries for a best experience. Please note that, the summer is very hot in Ahmedabad and I strongly recommend checking for weather as few places are only open / recommended during monsoon or winter season.

14 Most Popular Picnic Spots near Ahmedabad :

Our list will start with one of my favorite places I have explored many times from Ahmedabad.

1. Polo Forest:

Polo Forest

Polo forest is my favorite picnic place to spend quality time in nature and I strongly recommend spending one night here to reveal its natural beauty. I recommend this place to visit during monsoon season where you can also go for trekking. Popped between sanctified hills on the east and west, polo forest holds the stories from past. It sounds horrifying but there are ancient temples, several still carrying out their pujas deep inside this thick jungle. This forest itself is one big temple and the trees themselves are the gods. Polo forest is considered as one of the most popular weekend getaway near Ahmedabad where the government of Gujarat organizes Polo utsav every year.

You can easily find places to stay and food in Polo forest but you need to make prior booking, especially during weekends by considering rush. If you are planning for a day trip, you can easily conduct road trip to Polo forest where you can start early in the morning from Ahmedabad and can return by late evening. Please note that, there is no entry fees to visit Polo forest as it is open and public place.

Activities to Do:

Traveler can do trekking and photography of ancient temples and go on a forest trail at Polo forest. During polo utsav, you can also participate in cycling and enjoy the various cultural activities at Polo forest. You can hire guide from polo campsite who can help you to plan trekking activities around. Please note that, don’t go inside forest without experience guide.

Distance from Ahmadabad : 156 Km

Here is the video from my recent trip to Polo forest from Ahmedabad:

Resorts in Polo Forest:

If you really want to experience the nature, book your stay (If you are lucky to receive reply) at Polo campsite operated by forest department and the most economical place to stay in Polo forest. As explained, Polo forest is surrounded by nature and the only activity is touristy. You will find few luxury resorts in Polo forest but most of them are located bit far (1 to 5 KM) from Polo camp site and they are bit expensive too.

If you are looking for luxury stay in Polo forest, you can check Fern Sattva Resort .

Best Season:

The best season to visit Polo forest is monsoon and winter. Avoid summer as you will hardly find any water body during this season.

2. Adalaj Stepwell:

Adalaj Stepwell

Set in the noiseless village of Adalaj, Adalaj Stepwell aka Adalaj ni vav has worked as a relaxing place for hundreds of years for numerous travellers and convoys during their trade ways. There is an opening in the ceilings which permits the light and air to come in the octagonal well. Though, straight sunshine does not touch the flight of steps or quays excluding a short-term in noon. Therefore it is believed that the atmosphere inside the well is 6⁰ cooler than the outside. Another extraordinary feature of this step-well is that out of the several stepwells in Gujarat, it is the only one with three entering steps.

Clicking pictures of walls engraved for embellishment, with epic scenes with everyday extracts of women whipping buttermilk, dancers amidst musicians, women prettifying themselves and a king sitting on a stool. There is a garden outside the step-well where you can seat and relax with the friends and family.

Other Important Notes:

 • Distance from Ahmedabad – Around 19K from Kalupur Railway Station. If you are staying near S G Highway, it is well connected from highway towards Gandhinagar.
 • Entry is free or Paid? – There is small entry fees to visit this place

 • Distance from Ahmedabad – Around 25 Km. If you are staying near S G Highway, it is well connected from highway towards Gandhinagar.

4. Akshardham Temple Gandhinagar:

Akshardham temple Gujarat

It is a narrow lake enclosed by swampland’s on the verge and thin forest boarding the sides. Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary covers an area of 7 kms 2 and a paradise for bird watcher. • I Only Packed One Outfit for My Weeklong Vacation

travel india one day tripadvisor

Whenever I go anywhere, I end up bonding with one thing — that thing you wear the most on a trip — but before I go, I don’t know what that’s going to be. For our trip to St. John, I was only packing a backpack , and I knew it would need to be light or else I’d be grumpy carrying a heavy bag around. So I tried to figure out what the item I’d bond with would be before the trip and edit down based on that. About a week before the trip, I saw a shirt and I just knew that was going to be the one. Same thing with my shorts : I ordered them, and when I tried them on, I was like, Oh man, these are going to be the ones. And then I found the sandals in my closet — and I ended up bonding hard with all of them. Those three things were literally what I wore every single day.

Wythe Cotton/Linen Twill Officer's Shirt

When I last went into the Wythe store, I saw this and was like, Oh man, that’s a great khaki shirt . The fabric has the softness of cotton with a little bit of the nice texture of linen. It breaks in so awesomely: It kind of stretches out a little bit. The weave is a little loose on this thing, and it just gets looser. So it was the perfect beach shirt, and after six days in a row, this thing was soft as butter. What I like to do is I’ll take something — if it’s new — I’ll dump it in the salt water so it gets crusty, and then I rinse it out. I did that with this, and then it acted as a safety blanket. Sun protection. Headwrap. When your shoulders are sunburned, you lay this thing over yourself and put your bag over that so it doesn’t rake against your sunburn. This was like a Swiss Army Knife shirt. I felt like Magnum P.I. in this shirt.

CDLP Swim Shorts

Oh man, these are tremendous. The quality of nylon is enough to be structured but not feel heavy. And these are their shorty shorts. These are super-short — risky short — but I loved that about them. It made them that much more comfortable. They were like not-even-wearing-shorts short, but again, I wore these every single day. I would swim in them, snorkel in them, and then go to lunch in them. That was the uniform right here. I like the solid black, especially with the khaki — it feels sophisticated, but not at the expense of comfort or chillness.

Bedrock Cairn Sandals

Bedrock is just a great outdoor-sandal brand. They really care about their product and what they make. Wearing these was like not wearing anything at all. They’re made with a Vibram sole but it’s like an eighth of an inch thick. They’re so thin and feel like being barefoot since the straps are thin, too. They were my beach sandal and hiking sandal — I would do mileslong hikes in these up hills and on rocks. You definitely can feel things through the sole, but they’re awesome and super-versatile.

Alex Mill Weekday Tote

I get asked about this bag every time I use it. For the money, it’s pretty valuable. It’s not a cheap canvas tote, but it’s not luxury priced. You can dress it up; you can dress it down. At the end of our trip, I landed from St. John at 11 o’clock at night, got home, and had to be on a flight to New York the next day. This thing went from St. John to the city, and it was filled with sand at the bottom from the beach. It was pouring that day in New York, so I was like, Oh man. Three days ago I was on a beach with this thing, and now I’m trudging through pouring rain in New York.

Sweet Martha's Cookie Jar Navy Trucker Hat

My friend Jenny Olson’s mom started this cookie company Sweet Martha’s, and they sell them at the Minnesota State Fair. They started making merch for the fair, and this hat is from that. I just love it. It’s my favorite thing. It started out as navy blue and then faded to this weird sort of tie-dye-looking purple color. People love Sweet Martha’s so much, and now the hats have this weird cult following.

Note: The hat is currently sold out, but you can sign up to be notified when it’s back in stock on Sweet Martha’s website.

A first-timer's guide to exploring Bangkok: 5 handy tips

Updated : Apr 19, 2024, 21:20 IST

travel india one day tripadvisor

Bangkok is one of the most colourful cities in the world! The capital city of Thailand, Bangkok is home to some stunning temples, amazing nightclubs and warm people. This dynamic city is an excellent place for culture vultures and party lovers, alike. If you are planning a your first Bangkok trip, here we are to help you make the most of your visit with five handy tips for first-timers exploring the city:

Master the art of Tuk-Tuk negotiation

Tuk-tuks, the iconic three-wheeled motorised rickshaws, are a quintessential mode of transportation in Bangkok. While they offer a convenient and thrilling way to navigate the city's bustling streets, it's essential to negotiate the fare before hopping aboard. Tuk-tuk drivers often quote inflated prices to unsuspecting tourists, so don't hesitate to haggle and settle on a reasonable fare before embarking on your journey.

Navigate the city's waterways

Bangkok's intricate network of canals, or khlongs, provides a unique perspective of the city's bustling neighborhoods and vibrant culture. Hop aboard a long-tail boat or take a leisurely ride on the public ferries to explore hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path attractions along the Chao Phraya River and its tributaries. Don't miss the chance to visit the bustling floating markets, where vendors sell fresh produce, handicrafts, and delectable street food from their boats.

Understand the street food culture

One of the best ways to experience the authentic flavors of Bangkok is through its street food. From savory pad Thai and aromatic tom yum soup to sweet mango sticky rice and crispy fried bananas, Bangkok's street vendors offer a plethora of tantalizing dishes at budget-friendly prices. Be adventurous and sample local delicacies from the numerous food stalls lining the streets, but remember to choose vendors with high turnover and freshly prepared food to avoid stomach issues.

Experience the nightlife

Bangkok comes alive after dark, offering a diverse array of nightlife experiences to suit every taste. From rooftop bars with panoramic city views and lively night markets buzzing with activity to vibrant street-side eateries and pulsating nightclubs, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Explore the bustling nightlife districts of Sukhumvit, Silom, and Khao San Road, and immerse yourself in Bangkok's electrifying after-hours scene.

Visit the Grand Palace and temples

No visit to Bangkok is complete without exploring its magnificent temples and royal palaces. The Grand Palace, home to the revered Emerald Buddha, is a must-see attraction showcasing exquisite Thai architecture and intricate detailing. Nearby, Wat Pho houses the colossal Reclining Buddha, while Wat Arun, known as the Temple of Dawn, offers stunning views of the Chao Phraya River. Remember to dress modestly and cover your shoulders and knees when visiting these sacred sites.

Mountains You Can Climb In Just ONE Day

Rise to the top

Summiting a mountain needn’t be a multi-day wild camping adventure or even require special equipment. There are plenty of mountains, mounts and hills that you can conquer in under 24 hours, gaining a monumental sense of achievement without losing a night in your own bed. The only thing you’ll need on these hikes is a pair of good walking shoes, plenty of food and water and an infallible sense of determination.

Get the train into Edinburgh and you’ll weave around the rocky base of Arthur’s Seat – Scotland’s most Marilyn (a British hill over 500 feet/150m). Jutting almost 825 feet (251m) above the Firth of Forth, this city center climb is a beginner’s best bet: there are three different routes that will take you to the summit, taking no more than two hours uphill – and much less on the way down. You can go any time of year, so long as it’s not icy or overly windy.

Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

No matter which route you take, you’ll find something amazing to look at while you get your heart rate up. The views over Edinburgh from the steep Salisbury Crags are unparalleled, and as you ascend, they only get more spectacular. On your way down, catch your breath at the ruined St. Anthony’s Chapel or munch on a sandwich at one of Holyrood Park’s many lochs.

Mount Fuji, Japan

Fuji-san, as it is reverently known in Japanese, is integral to Japanese identity. Climbing its rocky slopes will allow you to learn more about the country’s culture. Look out for the torii gate on the mountaintop, which marks the entrance to sacred ground: Fuji, after all, is revered in the Shinto faith.

Half Dome, California, USA

Treating you to jaw-dropping panoramas over the heart of the American West, climbing Half Dome is an adventure you won’t forget. It’s not for the faint of heart, though, as the ascent is strenuous. The defining feature of this climb are the iron cables (via ferrata) towards the summit, which allow you to reach the top without rock-climbing expertise. Just remember to bring a harness or go with an experienced guide.

Jebel el Kest, Morocco

Staying in this rural part of Morocco offers you a chance to immerse yourself in Berber culture, dance and delicious food. Plus, the summit of Jebel el Kest is a local pilgrimage site, so there are a couple of shelters to rest up in. Would-be geologists will find the amethyst quartzite mountain fascinating, while nature lovers will enjoy being among the argan trees and daffodils found on the slopes.

Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland

Your guide will help you dodge the perils of slippery crevasses as you make your way to the top. From here, you can admire the icy views over Vatnajökull (which has featured in not one, but two James Bond movies), the south coast of Iceland, plus peer at the Öræfajökull volcano – the second largest active volcano in Europe.

Love this? Snowdon is a rookie mountaineer’s paradise. Low enough to avoid altitude sickness, but high enough to be breathtaking, this Welsh monolith is the perfect first climb, reaching elevation of 3,560 feet (1,085m). There are six routes to choose from, ranging from seven to nine miles (11-14.5km), around a seven-hour round trip. Clouds can blow over the summit quickly, though, so it’s best scaled from late April to early September.

Snowdon, Wales, UK

You’ll want to climb for bragging rights alone, having ascended the highest peak in England and Wales. A walk along the ridge will take you past serene mountain llyns (lakes) and the summit has a trig point that tells you how far you are from other British landmarks. Feeling tired? Ride the stunning Snowdon Mountain Railway all the way down.

Kékes, Hungary

However, when you get to the top of Kékes, you can add another 577 feet (176m) to your altitude by riding the elevator to the top of the Soviet-era TV tower. Catch your breath and stop for a snack and a glass of local wine (produced on the sunnier side of Kékes) in the bar. If you come in winter, you can even ski down the mountain.

Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa

Pass through the jungle-esque Skeleton Gorge on your way up the mountain. Or take the more challenging Kasteelspoort route along the jagged Twelve Apostles cliffs, and you’ll be rewarded with a seemingly death-defying photo opportunity at the Diving Board rock formation. Want a lift down? Take the Table Mountain Cable Car.

Check out the world's most beautiful remote mountain cabins

Want a lift down? Take the Table Mountain Cable Car.

Check out the world's most beautiful remote mountain cabins

When vacationing at Lake Lugano, you’ll be surrounded by mountains but Monte Bronzone is the one beginners should tackle. Best surmounted in springtime or fall, to avoid the worst of the heat, a looped trek up this verdant mountainside from the sleepy village of Dasio will take approximately five hours, and you’ll cover a distance of 4.7 miles (7.5km) and ascend to the peak at 4,704 feet (1,434m).

Monte Bronzone, Italy

Beginning from the village of Dasio, you’ll pass through remote farms, then dense forests of pine and birch and maybe even spot a waterfall or two. When you reach the top, the views of Lake Lugano are enough to take your breath away. On your way down to the lakefront for an evening spritz to cool off, stop in the car-free village of Castello to breathe in the quiet and fresh air.

Mulhacén, Spain

The terrain is rocky and barren all the way up, as there’s no water on the mountain after the snow melts. However, you will likely see herds of death-defying Spanish ibex, who will sniff around for a snack as you sit on the summit. You’ll also be treated to sweeping views over the Mediterranean and the Andalucían city of Granada in the valley below.

Mount Kosciuszko, New South Wales, Australia

The Thredbo route will carry you above Lake Cootapatamba, Australia’s highest lake, and you can hitch a ride in the cable car if your feet are tired. Opt for the Charlotte Pass route and your exertions will be rewarded with alpine wildflowers aplenty. Easy-breezy boardwalks and paved paths take you to the very top, where you can gaze at neighboring Mount Townsend – only 60 feet (18m) shorter than the one you’re standing on.

Pikes Peak, Colorado, USA

Hiking this 14,114-foot (4,302m) Colorado mountain makes for one very long summer day, but it’s worth it. The most popular trail, the 13-mile (21km) – one way – Barr Trail, can take between six to 10 hours, and it’s recommended to start out as early as 4am. The good news is, there’s a camp halfway up you can stop for a break and a shuttle bus to whisk you back down the mountain.

The majestic mountain pokes above dense forest and commands Colorado’s impressive natural surroundings. The Barr Trail will give you a taste of great American wilderness on the way up, so hear the sounds of twittering birds and eagles cawing above. Above the tree line, scenery becomes craggy yet particularly striking at Devil’s Playground. Enjoy floor-to-ceiling views of the Rockies from the brand new visitor center up top and treat yourself to a donut.

These are America's most beautiful mountains

Climbing this 7,641 feet (2,329m) volcano on the tropical Indonesian island of Java is an achievement you’ll want to write home about, but the trek is short and relatively easy. From the village of Cemoro Lawang, it’s only a 45-minute walk, but there are some steep steps to be reckoned with. Dry season is April to October, so ascend then to avoid the monsoon.

Mount Bromo, Indonesia

You’ll begin by traversing a plateau named the Sea of Sand, where the Hindu temple Pura Loher Poten stands out from its surroundings. Every July, indigenous Tenggerese people make a pilgrimage from this temple to the top of Mount Bromo in a ritual known as Kesodo. Once they arrive, prayers are held at the summit and offerings are thrown into the daunting crater.

Vinicunca, Peru

You’ll see a number of South American icons on your way up: look out for llamas and alpacas roaming free. When you reach the summit, you’ll want to take endless selfies with the burst of color behind you. But look up from your screen to see other mountains in the Vilcanota range, as well as a high-altitude glacier known as Cusco Ausangate.

Now take a look at the world's most beautiful mountains
