Document a Day in Your Life While on Vacation

As you're spending your days lounging on the beach or exploring new cities, documenting those moments can be a fun way to capture your vacation.

If you're traveling with friends or family, include them in your video as much as possible. This will help viewers feel like they're right there with you, experiencing the sights and sounds of your destination. Try to film everything – from waking up in the morning to getting to bed at night. If there's something interesting happening that day, be sure to capture it on camera.

By filming everything from the moment you wake up to when you go to bed, you'll have an amazing compilation of footage. Plus, it's a great way to reflect on your trip once you're back home.

Share Interesting Facts About the Place You're Visiting

Traveling to new places is always an adventure. Every destination has its own unique culture, history, and landscape. There's something strangely intriguing about learning a little bit more about a destination beyond what meets the eye.

For example, making a video of Rome and highlighting the history of how it’s built on seven hills. Or Venice, Italy which is made up of 100 islands. A travel video that talks about cool facts will make it an engaging and enriching experience for the viewer.

Capture Unique and Exciting Activities you Participate in While Traveling

When most people think of traveling, they imagine sightseeing and visiting historical landmarks. But there's so much more to explore. Don't just focus on the sights and sounds of your destination; get creative and make your travel video stand out from the rest by considering incorporating unique and exciting activities you can participate.

Whether it's rafting down a treacherous river or scaling a cliff face, these clips will add an element of excitement and intrigue that will keep viewers engaged.

Film People Enjoying the Local Food and Culture

To spice up your travel videos, consider incorporating some shots of the local food and culture. Anyone who's been to a foreign country can tell you that one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the native culture is by eating the local cuisine. A very easy way to share this cultural experience with others is by creating a TikTok video or Instagram reel featuring local restaurants who serve native dishes.

To all my Anthony Bourdain fans out there, it can also be a lot of fun to explore different culinary traditions. Who knows, you might even find yourself enjoying some unusual dishes. Foodie travel has a loyal following because so many of us like to eat well on vacation. Bon appétit!

Take Drone Footage of Stunning Landscapes or Cityscapes

While there are many different ways to explore new places, nothing quite beats the view from high up in the sky. And thanks to drones, we now have a way to get amazing aerial footage of landscapes and cityscapes like never before.

Drones offer a unique perspective that can turn a mundane travel video into an inspiring work of art. Whether you're looking at snow-capped mountains or the hustle and bustle of a city skyline, drone videos offer a unique perspective on familiar landmarks. From up high, everything looks different — more beautiful, more impressive. It's no wonder that drone videography has become so popular over the last few years.

My best friend is a YouTube content creator and when we travel she packs her travel drone which is very lightweight and compact . I love incorporating her short drone clips into my own videos to make them pop!

Document the Process of Packing for a Trip

People have a fascination with watching videos on how to pack for a trip. They can see what works for others and get ideas for their own packing lists. This is a simple way to avoid packing mistakes and maximize space in your luggage.

Start by making a list of everything you will need and then sorting the items into categories. Remember to pack light — you don't want to be overloaded with bags when you're trying to enjoy your vacation.

This is also a great way to incorporate fashion outfit ideas for specific destinations. Think dresses and swimsuits for a tropical island like Hawaii or sweaters and boots for New York City in the fall .

Travel to Hidden, Under the Radar & Off the Beaten Path Destinations

The problem with popular tourist destinations is that you’ll be dealing with crowds of people and over-priced hotels. There’s a growing trend in travel where adventurers are looking to discover rarely seen places such as abandoned ghost towns , hidden hiking trails and swimming water holes . Because these are usually hard to find or difficult to access places, making videos about your visit can garner the attention of many new curious followers.

Eco-Friendly & Sustainable Tourism

With sustainability on the top of everyone’s minds, it’s no surprise that eco-friendly tourism is on the rise. Popular hotel booking sites such as Booking.com features hotels that have been awarded the status of “ Travel Sustainable Properties ”. On the left hand side of their website you can see the sustainable hotels filter option .

A fun video idea could be to feature a hotel’s sustainable products and practices, showcasing how they are doing their part to be friendlier to the environment.

10 fun tiktok trends for couples to try out when traveling.

T ikTok has opened up a whole new realm of creative possibilities, especially for destination reels and fun challenges to jump on with your partner in crime as you travel around the world. However, for new users, it sometimes becomes daunting to find these challenges, and to figure out how to execute TikTok travel trends. We’ve compiled 10 of the most popular and fun TikTok travel trends from couples all over the world for you to try out on your next trip.

Finger snap!

@nanocalderon97 🇲🇽Resumen de nuestro viaje❤️ #parati #viaje #mexico #viral #fyp #travel #couple ♬ original sound – Sisi

You’ve probably seen it, it’s all over TikTok and it’s one of those trends that just doesn’t die out. Why? Because it’s one of the easiest ones to execute without having to spend too much time on your phone when you’d rather be taking in the beauty of your surroundings… or enjoying each other’s company.

How to do it:

  • Remember to record a one-second clip of your hands finger-snapping in front of all the different places that make up your trip together.
  • Once you have all the clips you want to use, scroll through TikTok to find one of these videos. Make sure you use the search tool and use a travel-related hashtag, such as #traveltok or #travelcouple.
  • When you’ve found one, click on the audio, and make sure you save it to Favorites.
  • Now that you have the clips and the sound, all you need to do is head over to the ‘+’ sign, add the sound from your Favorites. Then add every finger-snapping clip from your library, and TikTok will do the rest with auto-sync.

Bungalow run-through

@anna.fack rate the view at the end!! would you stay here?!😍breathtaking! #borabora #funnycouplesgoals #couplesvideo #travelcouplegoals #travelcouplelife ♬ My House (Challenge Version) – Flo Rida

Heading to an amazing rental home with a pool overseeing some breathtaking views? You might love this one.

How to do it is easy enough. Hit record and grab hold of your partner’s hand and have them guide you across the bungalow and into the pool. Don’t forget to get a waterproof phone case to avoid a tech disaster.

  • Save the sound from a similar video to Favorites.
  • Have your partner take your hand as they record you running in front of them through the bungalow.
  • Jump with them in the pool, or let go of their hand as they record and jump in the pool.
  • Add clip and sound, auto-sync and publish!

Passport reel

@thattravelcouple Travel together Stay together Tag your travel buddy #thattravelcouple #travelgoals #foryoupage #foryou #fyp #tiktoktravel #travelcouple ♬ Jaymes Young – Happiest Year – 99

This is another one of those #traveltok trends that never seem to go out of fashion. All you have to do here is take a first selfie with your partner at the airport holding your passports and cover the camera with them slowly for the transition. All that’s left is making sure you’ve got some clips throughout the trip of each other wandering, eating, kissing, exploring. Smash it all together with the right audio and boom! You go viral.

  • Save sound from a similar video onto Favorites.
  • Make a selfie video at the airport of the two of you holding your passports.
  • Slowly move the passports in front of the camera until it goes black.
  • Hit on the ‘+’ sign and add the sound
  • Add the airport clip, and all the clips you want to add from your trip.
  • Auto-sync and publish!

One day, you’re gonna wake up…

@theglobewanderers Do what you have always wanted ❤️ #travel #travelbucketlist #life #motivation #wanderlust #travellife #travelcouple ♬ original sound – Jesse J. Pedigo

One of the great things about TikTok is that the sounds that can be used on your clips go way beyond a music library. There are thousands of inspirational quotes with a backdrop of calm music that are perfect for these videos.

Finding those quote-based sounds can be tricky. The most efficient way is to scroll through TikTok with the #TravelTok hashtag and save those sounds onto your Favorites. Some creators, such as Jesse J. Pedigo (@creatingwonders), specialize in making the quote sounds for other users.

There is a lot more creative freedom in quote trends because you can literally choose any and as many clips from your travels. Many creators choose to add subtitles for the quotes on the final video, but if you do this, remember you need to time the duration of each piece of text accordingly. It can be a little daunting, but in the end, it’s totally worth it.

  • Save sound to Favorites.
  • Upload the best clips from your travels together and add the sound.
  • Optional text: Add the captions to the quotes and sync the durations for the whole video.
@georginariba98 Made it #trip #couple #travel #foryou #parati #clap #2021 #fyp #plane #beach #sunset ♬ Home Cover by Lukmco – Luke

The concept for this one is the same as the finger-snapping one we first mentioned. Fist-bump your partner with different backdrops of your trips, smash it all together, add sound, and watch TikTok make magic happen.

  • Find a similar video and save the sound to Favorites.
  • During your trip, remember to record one second of your hands fist-bumping in front of all the different places that make up your trip together.
  • Head over to the ‘+’ sign, add the sound, and every fist-bump clip from your library and TikTok will do the rest with auto-sync.

“When are you having kids?”

@jessiwanders Don’t stop until you find your travel partner for life #travel #partner #goals #couplegoals #travelcouple #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #inspiration ♬ Originalton – Hi

This is one of my personal favorites, and one I’m sure many recently married couples out there will love, especially couples bombarded with that constant nagging question from everyone around them: ‘So when will you have kids?’

It’s perfectly fine to want kids, of course, but it’s also perfectly fine to not want them. And travel instead. So next time they ask, maybe having a TikTok answer just that, might do the trick.

  • First of all, make sure you have the audio for this trend saved to Favorites.
  • Then, find a clip of your wedding day, and add the text “Everyone: So when are you having kids?”
  • Add a series of clips of the two of you traveling around the world, and make sure to add the text: “Us:” for the duration of those snippets.

Clear water…Cheers!

@sydneyandavis Clear water #jamaica #bestvacations #travelingourplanet #living_destinations #travelcouple #honeymoon #beach #travel #tiktoktravel ♬ Supalonely (feat. Gus Dapperton) – BENEE

There is nothing quite like the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean. If you’re heading there together, raising a couple of champagne glasses is one of the easiest and classiest reels to up your game on TikTok.

  • Before recording, get your hands on a couple of champagne glasses.
  • Hit record as you both fill the empty glasses with that crystal-clear water, toast, and let the water fall back into the ocean.
  • Before uploading the clips, make sure you find a similar video first, and save the audio associated with it to your Favorites.
  • Add the clips and audio, and voilá.

Life is short, the world is wide…

@riotravelers Follow us if you love travel ✈️☺️ #travel #travelcouple ♬ original sound – ✨ ✨

This is another quote-sound that has recently been trending again. As we’ve already mentioned, you can pair these sounds with whatever clips you want, without having to pre-record anything specific for them.

Tip: Make sure you get some clips of your partner exploring as they hold your hand, selfies, bird’s eye views, the two of you toasting at a charming restaurant. Anything goes. The important part is to capture all those moments you don’t want to ever forget.

  • This is optional but you can also add the captions to the quotes and sync the durations for the whole video.

Traveling as a couple…wait for it

@thelucasfamily True or false? #couple #couples #couplegoals #couplecomedy #couplelove #travel #travellife #GetGrafting #holiday #vacationmode #viral #fyp #fypシ #fy ♬ Into The Thick Of It! – The Backyardigans

This is one of the more realistic TikTok trends, and it’s one that allows you to add in a personal touch. Traveling is not always daisies and sunshine, especially as a couple. What is it that best defines your travels together? Do they get annoyed because you’re asking for selfies every second step of the way? Are you the one who always gets lost unless you have your nose stuck to a map the whole time?

Find that thing that defines you as a couple, and own it!

  • Save the sound from a similar video to your Favorites.
  • Decide what defines your travels as a couple and re-enact it in a humorous way.
  • Add the text: “Traveling as a couple… wait for it” in the first few seconds of your clip.

All these years, all these countries

@kendallfuhrman being with you feels like this song I love you @alexcarvs #love #soulemate #abba #theboy #gooutside #couplestiktok #travelcouple #luca #bucketlist ♬ Chiquitita x Twilight – twibytez

One of the most defining TikToks you could take as a couple is a reel of all your travels together. This might be something you need to dig out some old clips for, but it will definitely be worth it.

  • Save the sound from a similar video into your Favorites.
  • Dig up all the clips of the two of you together from all the traveling you’ve done over the years.
  • On the first clip, you use, make sure to add the text: “-X- years and -XX- countries later.”

The Dos and Don’ts of Using TikTok for Travel Tips

Relaxing woman enjoying her vacation at the beach illustration concept shows a beautiful woman who has dark skin tone sitting on the beach chair when the sunset time for relaxing her mood.

B efore scrolling on TikTok, Caroline Berdugo, a 23-year-old program coordinator at a children’s hospital in Rhode Island, had never thought to take a trip to Thailand.

“It wasn’t a destination that was on my radar. But I’ve seen so many [TikTok] videos and posts about it that made me really curious,” Berdugo says. “I love seeing videos of people going to the food market, which is really cool and definitely something that I want to do.” Berdugo plans on visiting the country in December. And it won’t be the first time Berdugo has gotten travel ideas from the social media app. She also plans on traveling alone to Peru this September—which she’d usually find daunting—but after seeing TikTok posts about women traveling alone on the app, she decided to take the plunge.

Berdugo’s story is not uncommon among a generation that uses TikTok as a search engine for news, events, and other trends. Despite dips in international travel and spending due to the pandemic, the U.S. Travel Association says that travel is up 5.5% since last year . Travel is particularly popular among Gen Z , the most prominent demographic on TikTok. And many people are now using the app for travel tips and an eye into the travel experiences of other users.

TikTok videos tagged with #travel (and its multiple counterparts) have garnered more than 230 billion views on the app. Travel-related content ranges from displays of luxurious getaways to accounts dedicated to sharing affordable flights .

But, creators warn that while many videos on the app can serve as inspiration for travel destinations, users should always do their own research.

“With everything on the internet, but especially on TikTok, things go viral so quickly. I always like to use the word discernment…You need to have a filter for all the content that you watch,” says Jo Franco, a Netflix travel show host and CEO of her journaling company JoClub . The 31-year-old created travel-related Youtube content for more than a decade.

Here’s what influencers told TIME about the dos and don’ts of using TikTok for travel tips.

Use TikTok as an entry point of discovery

TikTok is a great way to learn more about traveling in a way that may be more comforting for anxious travelers who do have limited travel experience and do not know what to expect.

That was especially comforting for people like Berdugo, who did not have the chance to travel much before graduating from college. “Before TikTok I never really knew what hostels were,” Berdugo says. “One of my anxieties has been ‘Oh, I don’t know how it would feel like to do things by myself,’ and ‘How do you meet people if you are solo traveling,’ but like, maybe, you know, staying at a hostel, and meeting other people that are traveling by themselves. Like that was something that I would say was like, introduced to me via TikTok.”

Franco adds that TikTok is a great tool for learning about different places. For example, Italy—arguably one of the most popular summer destinations — and #italytravel on TikTok has nearly 846 million views, with videos on everything from what to wear, see and avoid while abroad. Users who are looking for a place to visit can also lookup “travel destinations” in the search bar and the app will suggest other popular searches like “affordable travel places,” “luxury places to travel,” or “best travel destination in the U.S.,” so that users can narrow down their search.

TikTok is also a great place to find suggestions for the best restaurants or tourist attractions in a particular country or city. Users can get advice from locals or other international travelers online.

“If your goal is to learn more about the world, languages and to understand people in places, [TikTok is] a great beginning place,” Franco says. “It will serve you things that you didn’t even know you wanted about places you maybe didn’t even know existed.”

Don’t fall for the viral clickbait

While much of TikTok’s popularity and greater appeal stems from the app’s short-form content and quick virality, Franco warns users that the app can create a space where posts don’t give a balanced view of a destination or experience.

“When you see a video with [a high] level of virality, you’re going to take what is being said in the video with more weight than something talking about the pros and cons of [a destination] that only has 100 likes,” Franco tells TIME. The latter video may be more well-rounded, but many people associate greater likes with accuracy or better content, which can be problematic, Franco adds.

The oversaturation of content on the app can also make it difficult for creators to build a loyal fanbase and to know which creators’ content they can trust. A Youtuber, for example, may build a loyal fanbase that follows them and trusts their advice. But TikTok users don’t always build that sort of relationship with their followers because people are inundated with a plethora of content, Franco says.

Franco specifically warns against believing TikTok videos that seem too good to be true when it comes to travel, like viral videos that say a local government will pay a young person to move to a particular isolated area or region. Videos about moving to Calabria in Italy, for instance, went viral on TikTok last year .

“I think those tips I find fascinating, because we’re able to now connect real-time news to what that means for our travel. And to the same degree, a lot of those posts could over exaggerate,” Franco says. “Like, live here for free. And actually, you need to have an investment [of a certain amount]… There’s always a loophole so all things come with the caveat of doing your own research.” That’s true in the case of moving to the Italian island of Sardinia. Applicants were guaranteed about $15,000 if they moved there, but they also had to live in a town with a population of less than 3,000 and had to put their grant towards renovating into a home, CNBC reports .

Get advice from a diverse set of TikTokers

As the most racially and ethnically diverse generation , creators advise Gen Z to be aware that traveling is a unique, personal experience. Your identity, for that matter, will always play a vital role in travel. Travel content creator Lena Sow tells TIME that it was when she recognized there was a gap in the market for a Black female travel content creator, who also traveled solo, that she decided to start her TikTok account.

She advises people to look for creators who match your race, gender or even sexuality, to get a grasp on what it would be like traveling to the places they feature.

But she also mentions that people should take all of that advice with a grain of salt. “I do post a series where I post how I felt traveling solo, but I don’t want people to use that as like the end all be all,” Sow tells TIME, emphasizing that people will have different experiences.

But overall, Franco adds that TikTok represents a diverse set of travel options.

“What I love about TikTok is that there’s something there for everyone in the travel space,” Franco says. “The availability of inspiration is abundant.”

Your best travel tip just came from TikTok

Unfiltered advice and clever sustainable hacks are what draw travelers to this viral social media app.

The most viewed TikTok video of all time shows a young man, dressed up as a Hogwarts student, flying a magic broomstick in an industrial park. The 18-second snippet has been watched some 2.2 billion times.

But TikToks about travel haven’t taken off in the same way. Some reasons are obvious: Pandemic lockdowns have clipped the wings of traveling content makers. There are other reasons: The public appetite for glossy influencers posting jet-setting content from around the world seems to be waning.

Still, some creators have found novel ways to explore places that appeal to the TikTok audience and highlight off-the-beaten-path locations. Now, as people armed with vaccines delve into trip planning, the social media platform may end up changing how people approach travel.

This is especially true for American millennials and Gen Z, who are more likely to be on TikTok than other age groups. This cohort is spending more now , especially on travel and dining, than they were pre-pandemic. Their number presents an opportunity for the massively popular platform, which launched in the U.S. in 2018, hit two billion global downloads last August, and was the most downloaded app in 2020.

Two young women dancing in a busy square

It also presents challenges: Can TikTok’s talent for showing unfiltered bursts of life be harnessed to educate travelers without saturating destinations with unwanted attention, potentially leading to overtourism—or worse, sinking into the confusing morass of paid influencers and product placements?

Samanta Rosas, a 28-year-old creator from Houston, believes there’s a way to thread the needle: to produce videos that present destinations authentically, tell engaging little stories, and model responsible tourism.

On a trip to Mexico City , where she has relatives, Rosas posted a TikTok of Grutas Tolantongo , a resort location with heated pools in a box canyon a few hours north of the capital. While most of her posts get thousands of views, this TikTok, showcasing the area’s natural beauty, struck a chord and eventually received more than 3.5 million views.

“A lot of my family has been there,” she says. “People from Mexico go there, but it’s a hidden gem for tourists.”

( Here’s how you can travel sustainably .)

Surfacing unexpected places

On TikTok, users typically spend time on the “For You” page, an algorithm-driven selection of videos based on what the user has watched in the past. Unlike YouTube or Instagram, which surface specific accounts users already follow, TikTok users interact more with new accounts, creating opportunities for creators to be found by new audiences.

For this reason, unexpected content, like Davud Akhundzada’s videos of his trip to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan , can reach global audiences. Based in Prague,   Akhundzada, 27, has run a YouTube account for years, gathering a few thousand followers. But after his TikTok video showing him at the dried-up Aral Sea went viral, he picked up 100,000 new followers in a month.

travel videos on tiktok

“Americans are really interested in this geographical area,” Akhundzada says. “And they are interested in a unique story.” While he would love to become a full-time traveler, he does not want to become an Instagram-style influencer, and would make TikToks whether or not they bring him money. “I have zero revenue from TikTok,” he says. “But it’s fun for me.”

Like other social media platforms, TikTok includes users who have made full-time careers posting content by partnering with brands or doing advertisements. Alex Ojeda , who has more than six million followers, is one of them.

Based in Austin, Ojeda, 19, has always loved traveling, but started on the platform doing dances and funny sketches. Eventually he realized that travel could be part of what he shared on his account. His TikTok of a hike up Koko Head Trail, in Oahu, Hawaii, starts with the expected beauty shots at the top, but then shows how hard the climb is to get there . He has since partnered with destinations and says he feels driven to help places bounce back after more than a year of limited business.

But there’s a difference in the feel of TikTok videos—they are looser, and less retouched and idealized. This appeals to travelers now, according to Ellie Bamford of RGA, an innovation consultancy.

“All of our crisis habits have led to permanent shifts in behavior. The perfectly manicured influencer look is suddenly not so appealing—it isn’t in tune with what we were experiencing,” she says. “When it comes to travel, it’s about the culture, what the cuisine is like, how to think about traveling sustainably.”

Celebrating hometowns

On most social platforms, travel problems, such as overtourism , can get glossed over; on TikTok they get called out. One reason for this is that the platform’s audience is generally younger and more socially engaged than on other platforms, according to Joon Park, a senior cultural strategist at Sparks & Honey, a cultural consultancy firm.

“They are concerned about ethical consumerism and travel,” Park says. “TikTok is going to drive responsible tourism, especially in light of a pandemic.”

These concerns have allowed content to flourish from people showing off their hometowns, with authenticity “considered as a status symbol on TikTok,” Park says. “They are local celebrities because of their knowledge of the cities that they inhabit.”

New Orleanian Lansa Fernandez, 24, had been posting about fashion on TikTok but started to focus on his favorite dining spots right before the lockdowns began. His first video, about snacks he ate growing up , got hundreds of thousands of views, thanks to his straight-talking charm. A typical quip: “I know y’all going to judge me, but I don’t really care!” He has since turned more of his attention to highlighting other restaurants in his city, including a quick tour of his favorite vegan spot (“although I’m not even vegan”).

“People don’t want to do the touristy stuff,” he says. “They want the real New Orleans .” Now that the city is opening up, he wants to spotlight clubs that play bounce music, a homegrown style of hip-hop, and other authentic experiences that won’t show up at the top of a YouTube search.

( New Orleans’ historic architecture is uniquely suited for pandemic living .)

One reason for the growth of travel TikToks is that they successfully impart useful advice. After being fully vaccinated, N’Taezha Davis went to Houston last month with a friend and scoured TikTok for ideas. The bars and restaurants the 25-year-old discovered on TikTok—Hungry Like the Wolf, FAO, and Present Company—were all hits. They even impressed the local friend she visited. “She hadn’t heard of any of the places we found,” Davis says.

Davis is now planning a trip to San Francisco with the help of TikTok tips. “TikTok is going to give you the hole-in-the-walls and the mom-and-pop shops that provide more of an experience,” she says. “You find some of the best-kept secrets on TikTok.”

The new travel agent

The easiest way to start travel planning with TikTok is to follow a hashtag, such as #Mexico or #rollercoasters. Not all of what comes up will be about travel, but even locals doing dances or fawning over a movie star can give travelers a sense of the place they are interested in visiting.

( Here’s why planning a trip can help your mental health .)

A whole genre of travel tips can be found under #travelhack, such as Salt Lake City -based flight attendant Kat Kamalani ’s series of hotel and airplane hacks. She offers advice on how to check into a hotel safely or what drinks to avoid on planes . (Although some viewers don’t always agree with her tips.)

Young people dancing, a large stadium in the background

Travel brands, destinations, and publishers are in on the action. While this brings a diversity of colorful coverage, users should take note of video sources and potential commercial interests. [Disclosure: TikTok helped National Geographic launch an account this year.]

As TikTok’s algorithm learns more about your preferences, the platform reveals more secrets, in the form of unexpected (and sometimes unvarnished) videos. This serendipitous approach mirrors what makes discovering a new destination so rewarding in the first place.

travel videos on tiktok

Another app? It’s one more thing to add to your social media marketing strategy for tourism . But, before you write it off, I’ll share why it’s worth your time as a tour operator to create TikTok tours.

TikTok is a short-form video app designed to ‘inspire creativity and bring joy,’ featuring personalized content tailored to individuals — meaning no two feeds are the same.. With in-app editing, digestible videos and a high-reach potential, it’s worth a second look.

Built upon sharing short-form content, TikTok videos can be divided into two segments – edu-tainment and informational.

A quick snapshot of TikTok’s statistics: the platform has 800(!) million active users with a primary demographic of 16-39-year-olds. Videos are limited to a maximum of 60 seconds . So, if you’re a travel brand in the business of attracting people from all over the world, this is a pretty amazing virtual space to be in.

Why TikTok for travel brands?

As one of the leading social sharing apps, TikTok keeps on growing. Rising to fame during quarantine, TikTok started attracting travel-hungry millennials beyond the digital-savvy Generation Z group.

Authentic, story-driven content is key on this visual platform, making it ideal for tour and activity operators. The home feed works by integrating new and popular content as you refresh.

Videos will have an increased chance of being seen by more viewers by using location-specific hashtags alongside your company name and the activities your business offers. The beauty of TikTok is its ability to reach multiple demographics on a massive scale with each post acting as an opportunity to share, connect and inspire.

Creating TikTok-friendly tours

As a tour operator, you see first hand how much people love to document their travel experiences with photo and video. Creating opportunities for guests to make use of TikTok while out adventuring is a savvy move to attract, engage with and delight your visitors.

Imagine you have guests excited about documenting the scenery or a wild animal they spot while out on tour. Building in a bit of time at each location is a thoughtful way for guests to capture fun moments as they happen, highlighting what makes your tours and activities worth booking.

You can imagine how amazing it is for guests to see a massive whale pod cruise by while you’re kayaking or exploring on paddle boards, so grant customers the opportunity to capture these moments in real-time.

If you’re focused on connecting with your audience and allowing more people to discover what you offer, these short, personality-driven clips are a fresh, fun way to share content with a broader audience.

TikTok is also an ideal platform for showcasing Sneak Peek Virtual Tours. With guests sharing 15-second video clips from their perspective, it will inspire cooped-up travelers to keep watching. Short, fun videos invite connection and help you to resonate with your guests.

Invite your guests to tag you on TikTok and Instagram with geo-tags. Encourage your guides to share a day-in-the-life from their point of view while out on tour or film while highlighting a noteworthy location.

Showing faces behind the brand helps create trust, making it easier for guests to feel like they can document their own experience in real-time. This heightens the opportunity for more people to see what your business offers.

How to train tour guides on TikTok

Learning how to make a TikTok video is a process of trial and error. Start with the back or front-facing camera. Vertical content performs best on TikTok, so the focus is on recording a steady shot with clear audio.

Fortunately, some of the most popular content on TikTok involves – and I bet you can guess – pets and travel. TikTok has plenty of videos featuring videos listing ‘top 10’ travel locations and clips of people watching their washing machine during COVID-19 while pretending to be looking out an airplane window.

With the anticipated surge of travel post-COVID, think of opportunities to inspire guests to visit by inviting them into your world through short videos. If you search travel on TikTok, you will observe people acknowledging pent-up travel demand during quarantine by showcasing beautiful views or fun activities meant to inspire wanderlust.

Transporting people visually with a quip or funny caption, especially in the world of social media, is marketing gold. Tapping into short attention spans with fun, digestible and relatable content is a way for your company to attract new guests on a global scale. Part of the reason the platform is so addictive is that the videos are entertaining and super short.

High-quality, hyper-polished content is not the goal with TikTok. Driven by people with a camera built into their phones, this is a playground for content creators, influencers and travelers alike. A bit of humour and value-based content goes a long way.

6 creative TikTok tourism ideas

  • Encourage guests to capture animals in their videos. Animals are amazing for creating waves of delight on the feed
  • Tips/tricks and life hacks are useful angles to prep guests ahead of visiting your destination
  • Allow guests to film activities in action on a big adventure day
  • If you operate walking or food tours, highlight a few viewpoints guests will see while on tour with you
  • Create a video including what to pack for a trip along with ‘must-have’ items
  • Start a TikTok travel challenge that’s specific to your destination

Steps for making TikTok travel videos

Finding yourself lost for ideas? Some videos have hundreds of thousands (and some with millions) of views and you’ll want to follow these steps :

  • Scan TikTok’s home feed to explore popular content
  • Explore different hashtags to get a sense for high-performing content
  • Off-the-cuff moments are winners in this space so focus on being helpful and laidback
  • Start filming as if you’ll be sharing with a single person, keeping your video lighthearted
  • Aim to record for 15-30 seconds at a time and save to the TikTok gallery
  • Adjust recording filters, add sound and text to your video
  • Press publish and be sure to add a caption along with geotags. Have fun!

How to make your TikTok videos better

Imagine yourself in the viewer’s shoes — you’re probably much more likely to get excited about a new adventure if you already feel connected to the company and who’s behind it. Quick tidbits like getting ready for the day or highlighting something you think people might want to know in advance are valuable.

Anything can be made entertaining with some catchy music and delightful edits. The app performs best with vertical videos. Encourage tour guides to capture guests enjoying the moment by recording for 15-60 seconds as a memento of their trip.

There are two ways for users to enjoy the social video sharing platform — either by re-editing existing content or by creating original content.

Remember, these videos are not meant to be a deep-dive. A glimpse into what your company offers with some behind-the-scenes is a great starting point on the app with a big investment of time and money. The focus is on creating quick, fun and enjoyable content — anything to inspire daydreaming or a lighthearted tip. Learn five tips to create attention-grabbing videos on TikTok.

Play around with what gets eyeballs on your TikTok tourism feed. Feel free to ask for ‘the close’ or give viewers a call-to-action for them to explore your website and maybe even book with your company simply because your videos are fun to watch.

As a platform that rewards entertaining content, TikTok contains a wealth of easy-to-create, relatable content without investing in videos with a high production cost.

Focus on encouraging guests to post TikTok videos with an amazing view or focusing on a savvy tip that you think fellow guests might appreciate. This approach makes it seem like you’re inside customer’s heads before they even step foot in your door and gives current guests a reason to share their experience online in a visually engaging way.

TikTok is designed to reward embellishment, humour and owning your brand, so have fun with recording and see what sticks. The social platform is not so much about promoting business as it is about showcasing personality.

TikTok for social media marketing

TikTok is a visually stimulating app with a user-friendly design. The in-app editing makes it easy to record separately and stitch clips together with ease. An added benefit of TikTok is in repurposing content. While the algorithm in TikTok is a bit of a mystery, videos grow organically and can see impressive reach , but views don’t necessarily mean results.

You can download the short videos to share on other platforms like Instagram Reels and Stories. Adding a series of videos to your tourism Youtube channel , especially if you want to experiment with “Shorts,” may help boost your discoverability. Cross-pollination on multiple social platforms creates more opportunities for people to find you.

TikTok is a foray into user-generated content (UGC) where savvy tour operators can benefit from encouraging guests to share what they love. It’s ideal for filming and sharing short clips, which means it’s up to you and your team to create space for guests to capture their experience.

Key takeaways

  • Allot 1-2 hours per week to familiarize yourself with the platform, scanning and watching videos on the #ForYouFeed’
  • TikTok videos are a fantastic way for guests to showcase adventurous activities where the viewer can visualize themselves in the moment, with added personality and entertainment value. These videos can get to the heart of what makes your tour company exciting and worth booking with. You know your audience best, so experiment with creating content that inspires you
  • Use TikTok as a tool for showcasing the personality of your brand and your team. Any social platform’s goal is to position your company as a friendly, inviting option to prospective guests. TikTok is much more about ‘show and tell’ with a huge emphasis on fun, digestible content

A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Viral TikTok Travel Videos

travel videos on tiktok

Small video content is one of the most viewed things on the internet these days. And people are readily taking inspiration from other people’s TikTok travel videos to make their travel plans. But the market is flooded with different kinds of travel TikTok videos. In this market which is overflowing with travel influencers, how do you make content that goes viral?

Forbes says more than 42% of marketers are now using TikTok to market their brands. Over 1.5 billion users browse TikTok monthly. Viewership is rising leaps and bounds, and going viral on this platform is easier than you think. You just need to function methodically and take the process seriously, and you will be able to crack it in no time. If you’re working from home, you can use the right tools to improve productivity.

One of the primary things you need to have is a good story for your video, but that is not all. The journey just begins there; the next steps are equally important for you to go viral. Discover with us as we give you a step-by-step guide on how to create travel videos that can go viral on TikTok. Join us and read to find out.

8 Steps to Make a Viral TikTok travel video

We have outlined the 8 essential steps that are a must-have for making viral travel videos.

1. Notice the viral travel TikTok trends

TikTok is full of trends; make sure you are constantly active and take notice of these trends the moment they happen. You can not hop on to trends after a million-odd people have already made videos on it. Like beach travel videos are trendy during summer months, snow videos are trendy during the winter.

You must be one of the first few people who pick on a trend and make a travel video on it. If you think this is too much information for you to retain, you can record the content with screen recording software and refer to it later. Follow relevant travel pages and competitors if you want to stay in touch with all the latest trends. You can never miss out on the trends if you wish to be viral.

2. Make videos in a viral-friendly format

What is a viral-friendly travel video format? “How to reach X place?”, “Did you know X fact about X place?”, “Before and After video” formats work best to make it viral. These questions or suggestions at the beginning of the video act as great hooks for the audience to wait and see the video till the end. This helps you increase your audience, and it shows up on more people’s feeds.

3. Make videos for travel brands

Forbes reports have mentioned that TikTok videos are one of the best ways to get your brand noticed. In the current market, it is one of the most trending marketing and advertising strategies. That is why when you desire to make viral travel videos, you must get hold of brands that want to market themselves. This can be a barter, paid, or any other form of collaboration.

Make sure the brand is relevant to travel. If you endorse a known brand on your video, you will get viewership from your audience and also the brand’s faithful audience base. This will easily make your travel videos go viral. But remember, just because endorsements bring you viewers and money, you can not endorse irrelevant brands. That will take away your viewers.

4. Pick your TikTok travel songs

Most TikTok songs and music options are not really traveling video-friendly. Though they might sound good, it is important you do not choose irrelevant songs/music. You cannot add food or fashion video music to a travel video. Your audience will lose faith in your content if you do this, and you will start losing followers. It is always important to stick to your niche.

5. Use proper video shooting gear/camera

When you are planning to shoot a TikTok travel video, you must use proper gear, camera, and set-up. You cannot have a hazy shot of a new place and expect it to go viral. You need crystal-clear shots, great clarity, and dynamic shooting techniques.

You can use new equipment like drone cameras, underwater GoPro cameras and more if you want to create more thrill. All your shots can not be from the same position and same camera angle.

You must constantly keep changing your shooting techniques to engage your audience. Also, understand which travel destination is best shot with which camera. If you are shooting a dome or high structure, then drone shots are great, but if it is a travel video where you visit a pub or a restaurant, drone shots are irrelevant. Pick wisely.

Creating Viral TikTok Travel Videos

6. Use a video editing software

Publishing raw video content on TikTok is a catastrophic decision for someone who wants to make viral travel videos. If the quality of the video is great, it has to go viral.

You need to start using video editing software to know to improve the quality of your video. Good editing software can help you adjust light, add filters, cut and edit video clips, add frames, improve clarity, and more.

7. Be smart when you film

Yes, we said that you need to get on top of travel video trends and make your own videos to go viral. But you also need to play smart when shooting a video. Offer something unique in every video, even if the destination is the same as others. Offer a new insight, a new fact, an innovative travel tip, or an offbeat location that others did not discover.

8. Ask others to join your TikTok trend

If you want to make your TikTok travel video go viral, you must use your video to ask others to join the trend. Ask your followers to visit the places you visit, and ask them to tell you if your video helped in their travel plans. You can also ask them to make their videos of the same location and share them with you!

Travel Inspo: Insta & TikTok Beat AI

The possible applications of generative AI are practically limitless . Tools like ChatGPT can be used to craft emails, write code and solve all kinds of problems in a professional context. But they’re also very helpful for private use, for example when planning a vacation or a weekend getaway. AI tools can help you find a nice restaurant, a flight connection or plan the itinerary for an entire trip.

Like all applications for AI tools, their use as a personal travel assistant is still in its infancy and many people probably don’t even know what AI is capable of in the travel context. According to Deloitte’s 2024 summer travel survey , just 10 percent of Americans who plan a summer vacation this year plan to use AI tools for inspiration or information regarding their upcoming trips. AI use is most common among Millennials, where 17 percent of travelers have used ChatGPT or similar tools for trip planning.

While AI tools are rarely used by travelers looking for inspiration, the same cannot be said for short-form videos commonly found on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. Especially young people tend to get inspiration from such videos, as Deloitte’s survey shows. 44 percent of GenZ travelers use social media videos for travel inspiration, which is not a huge surprise considering the popularity of TikTok in this age group.

There’s no such thing as cheating in peace — not even at 30,000 feet.

Whether up high or down low, low-down dirty adulterers simply can’t escape social media’s ever-present lens.

And the proof of that ugly truth is going viral thanks to a prying plane passenger who caught someone’s unfaithful hubby getting frisky with another woman mid-flight.

Flight taking off.

“If this man is your husband flying United Airlines, flight 2140, from Houston to New York, he’s probably going to be staying with Katy tonight,” wrote content creator Caroline Rened in the caption of her incriminating clip.

Airing out the two-timer’s dirty laundry to a staggering 24 million TikTok viewers, the brunette shared stealthily shot visuals of the married man and his mile-high mistress, known as Katy, shamelessly canoodling during the four-hour jaunt to Gotham.

And Rened is far from the only cyber-snitch to blow the whistle on a wannabe Romeo.

Maddison Liberwirth, a smoke-show influencer with over 24,000 followers, recently threatened to expose “weasels” who openly lust over her bikini pics while their significant others are none the wiser.

“I am not the one to play with,” warned the brunette. “I will tell your girlfriend that you liked my story — you’re a weasel and a you’re a bit of a loser.”

But when human tattling isn’t enough, advanced technologies like AI , Google Maps and fitness apps serve as sophisticated squealers.

A distressed woman on a cell phone.

But all Rened needed was a smartphone, keen ears and a good angle.

“Him and Katy met at the airport bar and haven’t left each other’s side since then,” she continued in the caption of her eye-popping post. “He convinced her to change her seat so she could sit next to him and they could drink.”

“I dont know his name but know hers becasue he keeps saying it,” the nark explained while sprinkling in some identifying details about the man’s personal and professional life.

“I wouldn’t have known he was married,” added Rened, “if he hadn’t been wearing his wedding ring.”

A screenshot of TikTok user Caroline Rened's viral video.

And while some online onlookers scolded the eagled-eyed fink for failing to “mind her own business,” Rened’s equally nosey supporters hailed her for outing the cheat.

“Proof that us ladies are better than damn FBI agents,” joked an impressed commenter.

“Thank you for your service,” wrote another, saluting Rened for her savvy sleuthing.

“May your hair slay every day, your manicure perfection every single time, you win free iced coffee the rest of your life, because you are doing the Lord’s work,” a doubly dazzled viewer said.

And Rened’s almighty meddling wasn’t done.

She shared an update on the womanizer’s skyway exploits in a subsequent vid, alleging he and Katy were “making out and ended up in the bathroom.”

‘Raw dogging’ is the controversial new trend men are doing on flights

‘Raw dogging’ is the controversial new trend men are doing on flights

The 'raw dogging' travel trend has been going viral on tiktok for all the wrong reasons.

Mia Williams

Men are attempting to ‘raw dog’ plane journeys after the painstaking trend went viral on TikTok, with one person even admitting it was their 'beige flag'.

When you find out men are ‘raw dogging’ it on flights, you wouldn’t be the only one to raise an eyebrow.

Despite many people becoming members of the ‘mile high club’ , and indeed ‘raw dogging’ it, the term has recently taken on a whole new meaning.

It’s the travel trend of the summer, although we’re not totally sure we would want to give it a go.

Would you 'raw dog' a flight? (Getty stock image)

Aircrafts are usually full of in-flight entertainment , especially on long-haul journeys.

You might have a little screen in front of your seat with a selection of movies to watch, or you may prefer to stick your headphones in and listen to some music .

It’s pretty hard to resist not picking out a sweet treat from the trolley selection, but ‘raw doggers’ are finding a whole new level of willpower.

That’s right - no music, no streaming, no snacking, and even more bizarrely, no sleep.

‘Raw dogging’ is now being used to describe staring into the distance, perhaps at the in-flight map or nothing at all, for the entire flight.

TikTok creator Michelle recognised people taking part in the trend and decided to whip out her phone and film the scene, writing: “I have never seen so many people raw dogging a flight in my life. Literally just staring straight ahead the entire time?

“My attention span is shot.” (Getty stock image)

“This was a 5 HOUR flight from NYC to SF??

“Aren't San Franciscans always glued to a screen or something???”

The TikTok user rounded off by asking: “Have I become an iPad kid...”

And it’s not just men that are challenging themselves with the task, one mum looking for a bit of peace and quiet also likes to ‘raw dog’ it.

Johanna Riehm, 34, said in a TikTok: “My beige flag is that I like to raw dog flights.

“I sit there in silence with my thoughts and just watch the little GPS plane.”

While we have all longed for a few moments to ourselves, that many hours with your own thoughts sounds a little too much.

Moment Brits 'become first victims of Benidorm clampdown on boozing'

  • Fines in Benidorm for drinking on a beach can be up to £635

This is the moment two stunned British men are approached by Spanish cops on a beach in Benidorm for sharing a bottle of rosé by the water as the seatown clamps down on boozing.

The two unnamed Brits were captured in a video filmed by Darren, 46, also known as Dazza, and his friend, Graham, 36, from Middlesbrough.

The men, who were sat in deck-chairs on the beach were approached by police as they sipped on some wine in the sun, are thought to be the first to have fallen victims to Benidorm's new alcohol-related laws, according to Darren.

The video, which has racked up over 2,346 likes on TikTok , shows a small foldaway table between the pair, on which a bottle of rosé and two glasses rest.

Darren can be heard saying: 'There's a couple there getting done for drinking on the beach.'

He continues videoing as the police approach other tourists.

'The two men were doing nothing wrong, just chilling out with a bottle of wine,' Darren adds.

'It's the first time I've ever seen the police move people off the beach for drinking.

'It's getting really strict over there, the police don't mess about and they're out searching people every night.

The fine for drinking on the beach in Benidorm is €750, the equivalent of around £635.

It is unclear whether the two men were fined, but they were reportedly removed from the beach.

The TikTok has also garnered hundreds of comments from users.

One user said: 'It's Benidorm, I thought everyone drank everywhere', while another added:  'The fun police.'

But there were some followers who agreed with the fines.

'If it says you can't drink on the beach that's the law,' someone commented, while another TikTok user said: ' Rules are rules end of'.

Benidorm is one of the many Spanish tourist hotspots that has clamped down on holidaymakers, and the booze ban is just one of its several newly-introduced measures to control rowdy tourists.
