R egain that "like new" feeling!

Never underestimate the importance of a bearing overhaul. Over time, dirt, rust and lack of grease prevent the free movement of all your pivot bearings which leads to the loss of that plush smooth feeling. By replacing your pivot bearings with Blueseal Bike Bearings this resistance is removed and your bike suspension pivots will feel better than new.

All orders made before 12PM are despatched the same day, after this time within 24 hours weekdays (Mon - Thurs). Orders made past 12PM Friday will be despatched Monday.

About Blueseal Bike Bearings™

trek fuel ex suspension bearings

ABEC 3 Full Complement

Most non-bike specific bearings are ABEC 1 as standard. Blueseal Bike Bearings™ are all ABEC 3 Rated, this higher class of bearing runs smoother & last longer.

trek fuel ex suspension bearings

Max. Fill Premium Grease

Standard bearings contain a small amount of basic bearing grease (Approx. 20%) which offers little protection towards corrosion and rain and dirt ingress.

Blueseal Bike Bearings™ contain the maximum fill of Mobil waterproof grease possible without compromising the function of the close-contact rubber seals.

trek fuel ex suspension bearings

MAX 40% Stronger

MAX full complement bearings have no retaining cage. This extra space created allows for a maximum fill of ball bearings.

This results in greater radial and axial load capacity over standard bearings (40% stronger)

trek fuel ex suspension bearings

Close Contact 2RS LLU Seals

Blueseal Bike Bearings™ have top-quality LLU 2RS close-contact rubber seals. The tighter the seal is to the inner bearing race the harder for water and dirt to get in and the grease to get out!

12 Bearings in Total (5 different Part Numbers)

This listing is for a full set of Frame Pivot Bearings only. No other hardware such as nuts, bolts, washers will be supplied. Any pictures indicated in this listing is for reference to the year/design of frame in question. Please click into this product and read the full description for further informaton about the bearings provided.

IMPORTANT: This listing is for a full set of Frame Pivot Bearings only . No other hardware such as nuts, bolts, washers will be supplied.

Any pictures indicated in this listing is for reference to the year/design of frame in question.

Bearing Specification Configuration: MAX Complement where available (Fully loaded with ball bearings - no cage/retainer present) Material: 100CR6 Chrome Steel for balls and races Grease: Mobil XHP222 or Sinopec HTHS (High Specification Water Resistant Grease) Seal: 2RS ( 2 R ubber S eals, 1 each side) Precision: ABEC-3

Max Complement (Also known as Full Complement) At Kinetic we only supply Max Complement bearings for frame suspension pivots (where available).  Max type bearings can take a much higher load as they have 40% more balls than standard wheel bearings.  A Frame Pivot Bearing experiences only a minor degree of movement concentrated in a small area, thus strength across the axis of load is of the utmost importance. To achieve this, the races are fully loaded with balls to ensure that the load passes through actual balls and not gaps.

If a supplier selling frame pivot bearings fails to mention they supply MAX complement, it's very probable they are bearings that contain retainers and therefore cannot withstand higher loads often experienced in suspension frames.  These can fail prematurely.  Non-MAX bearings are usually cheaper too.

Note, standard wheel bearings have a metal or nylon retainer with gaps in between, which is perfect for wheels/BB's where full rotation occurs.

Grease & Seals The bearings (Kinetic's own and also Enduro) will be filled with the correct volume of high-performance water resistant marine grease to prolong the life of your bearing.  The seals are usually 2 high quality rubber seals, which is where the 2RS is derived from.

Precision Rating The precision quality of bearings are rated by the ABEC scale.  The ABEC rating for bearings commences at ABEC 1 which is seen in most bearing applications for bicycles supplied from the factory.  Higher end bearings for bikes are usually ABEC 3.  Kinetic in almost every case supplies ABEC 3 rated bearings.  Suppliers that do not mention the ABEC rating, it could be safe to assume are supplying inferior/cheap/unrated or low rated bearings.

Quality You can be rest assured that our bearings are of fantastic quality and produced specifically for bicycle application.  We supply 100's of bicycle trade customers directly as our bearings are the same as many bearings fitted to bikes at factory level (Original Equipment).  We buy from suppliers that also produce and supply to many highly regarded premium bicycle brands.

Our Kits – Points to consider The bearings supplied will usually be ALL our own 'Kinetic Bearings', although occasionally contain a mixture of our own and Enduro Bearings.  This is due to some custom bearings used on frames which only Enduro produce. There will ultimately be an option within the listing to purchase a full set of Enduro Bearings.

It costs slightly less to buy a full kit than to purchse the separate bearings.

If you do not need a full set of bearings and know what codes you need as you may only be changing main pivot bearings for instance, then you can order separate bearings as necessary.  Alternatively trade customers can consider stocking our frame pivot bearing workshop boxes which covers main part numbers.

Ordering a bearing kit in advance of working on your frame has it's advantages in that it saves time and/or hassle.  Quite often, you might need to strip the frame down to access the bearings to discover what you need. The bike remains in bits whilst waiting for your fresh new bearings.

Knowing what model year you have It's sometimes difficult selecting the correct year bearing kit.  To help in this regard, we have supplied an image where possible.  If not, you can try a Google image search by Manufacturer, Model and Year of frame. You can then consider if the matches look the same or very similar.

If you still not 100% sure, and you have made an educated guess, please be assured that as long as you return the bearings to us within 14 days in the same new condition supplied to you, then we will exchange or refund as necessary.

NOTE, ROYAL MAIL BASIC POST SERVICES (our free option) CAN BE UNRELIABLE - IF URGENT, PLEASE SELECT TRACKED OR SPECIAL DELIVERY, MANY THANKS

Fuel EX8 Suspension Bearing Maintenance

trek fuel ex suspension bearings

  • Add to quote

After 9 months with my new EX8 I decided I would pull the back end apart and take a look at the suspension bearings. Pretty easy to disassemble by the way. To my surprise the bearings were completely depleted of grease and probably would have lasted another month at the most without lubrication. They were a piece of cake to lube up but I was just surprised that were completely dry. I usually do all my lubes on an annual basis depending how much I ride but would recommend to all you EX owners to take a look at the bearings and save yourself alot of extra work. Bob

Can you give us step-by-step instructions on how to do this? Perhaps make it an instructable ? Thanks

After the nine months of riding, how many miles was that? I'm just trying to get an idea of how many miles you have. I may only ride 15-20 miles a week on my EX8 so the bushings might be fine for a year if you are riding 50-75 miles a week. Thanks, Ed

After a little research I discovered that the bearings are not lubed when assembled but come direct from the vendor pre-assembled, lubed of course but not with high quality grease. So I would highly recommend checking out your bearings. If you have ALOT of extra money you can upgrade to these, then you don't need any lube! http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.aspx?p=docs&id=7

Thanks Nick. Did you notice a big differnce in the feel of the bike after lubricating the bearings?

trek fuel ex suspension bearings

I'd say that it may not have been that the grease got depleted, but more likely the bearings didn't come packed properly with grease to start. This is a comon problem with bearings and I always will check new bearings to make sure they are packed properly, especially in suspension points that will see loads of dust, grime and water.

I haven't had a chance to ride it since I lubed it but hopefully will sometime this week. I would imagine it will ride a little smoother. I tend to agree with LyNx about the bearings, I just can't see how they possibly be dry after that short of time period and being sealed up as well as they are.

It's an old thread, but I think it's a good one to bump back up. Bought my EX8 new in Oct 08, put 567 miles in 7 months. I checked the bearings last night and this is what I found. Evo bearings were almost dry, but were still working. Regreased (right over old grease) and not really an issue. The lower pivot bearings were completely dry and the non-drive side bearing was froze, I could not spin it with my finger, after using some creeping oil I finally broke it loose and worked it for a long time with my fingers. Cleaned out both lower pivot bearings with brake fluid and let dry. Repacked with finish line teflon grease and reassembled. Used loctite on threads and torqued to spec on bolt. Easy job with the only exception being that I didn't put shock in place prior to torquing (mistake), had to loosen everything and then reinstall shock. Make sure you have the shock installed and then torque up everything together. Anyone ever pull apart the APB to check those bearings?

gasiorv said: Anyone ever pull apart the APB to check those bearings? Click to expand...

I find that the lower shock pivot on my EX8 is very tight even with the bolt taken out. The full floater chain stays are actually pinching the bottom shock spacers very tightly. To uninstall/install the rear shock I have to loosen the main pivot bolts to "unpinch" the shock spacers. Is this how it is on your EX8s also?

I put it back together the same way, based on the design (being "pinched" between two bars without bearings or a spreader bar) I believe this is correct Gained access to the ABP bearings last night and they were actually in pretty good shape, I added some additional grease and put back together.

As warmer temperatures hit the Pacific Northwest and the dirt starts to dry, I’m always eager to get out on some long rides with some big climbs. Naturally, when this Trek Fuel EX 9.9 showed up at the Freehub office, I knew it was time to put the nimble beast through its paces. I challenged myself to a 60-mile sufferfest on some of Bellingham, Washington’s toughest climbs and descents. It definitely didn’t let me down. Climbing on this bike was a joy. Trek equipped the 9.9 model with its proprietary RE:aktiv shock with a three-position damper, which I left wide open for the entire ride. The rear suspension had an overwhelmingly supportive feel while pedaling out of the saddle, yet as soon as I hit a bump it dived deeper into the travel, keeping the rear wheel firmly planted and providing excellent traction. The geometry is modern and balanced, with a long reach and a sensible 76-degree seat angle. On the descents, the bike inspired confidence, thanks to its long wheelbase and bottomless-feeling suspension. My confidence was further enhanced by the reliable stopping power of the Shimano XT brakes. As a 200-pound rider, I couldn’t have appreciated the ultra-powerful XT brakes and the 203-millimeter front rotor more—especially while bombing down some of Bellingham’s scariest double-black trails.
