Virtual Visit Options

Bryan Beaumont , DO, family medicine physician, explains what virtual care is and the types of care you can receive in a Froedtert & MCW virtual visit appointment. Dr. Beaumont also explains the difference between on-demand and scheduled virtual visits — both available via the Froedtert & MCW app .

In today's day and age, your doctor's appointment might take place from the comfort of your own home. Many doctors offer virtual care options which means you can get the care you need without going to the clinic.

What is a virtual visit?

A virtual visit is a live, interactive video chat with your doctor that takes place over an electronic device such as a phone, tablet or computer. You need to have both a camera and a microphone. These can be done within your home. This is for both new and established patients, and it's a great way to have a very convenient and secure opportunity to talk to your health professional.

Which types of appointments can be done with a virtual visit?

Anything that doesn't require a hands-on physical can be appropriate for a virtual appointment. If you have any questions, reach out to your care team, but normally what we're seeing is chronic care management, medication refills and seasonal allergies. Test follow-up is a great example, too. If you're having issues with transportation, child care or any sort of work restrictions and need to be seen, please reach out for a virtual visit.

Are there different types of virtual visits available?

Within the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network, we have two main types.

• One is the on-demand video visit that's kind of your same-day, within-the-hour appointment. Common conditions seen there would be allergies or maybe a rash or sore throat.
• We also have scheduled video visit appointments with both your primary care teams and your specialty care teams.

What's important here is that this is tied to your MyChart account, and that allows us to have the most up-to-date information on your medicines and health history. And what's great about this app is that you can launch both on-demand and scheduled visits through this. And this app can be easily found on either the Apple or Google App Stores.

My experience with Froedtert has been nothing but positive from scheduling, checking in, to the very professional care of the Physicians and supporting Medical staff. My experience pursuing a new primary healthcare physician, Dr Revolinski, has been nothing but outstanding. He was right on time, an extremely good listener, displayed great insite, was very professional, and made you feel like that he was part of your team to keep your health in check. His assistant, Nurse Cheri was extremely professional, kind, and caring. I might also sneak in the word efficient. One more thing I just have to share with you. After Dr Revolinski had left the room, his Nurse Cheri was to return and give me a vaccination. Not more than a minute after he left, he returned to my room just to let me know that Cheri was with another patient but would be right back after that. In all the many years that I’ve been in this situation, I’ve never had someone step back in and inform me of a possible delay. Usually you just wait and wonder if they’ve forgotten you. Great experience!

I LOVE FROEDTERT/MCW!

Dr. Ben George is my Oncologist and has been for 10 years. His entire staff is wonderful! My father, who was treated for Esophageal Cancer at Froedtert probably 40-50 years ago, was given 3-5 years - he lived 25 more wonderful years! I have referred many friends, friends of friends, anyone and everyone - to Froedtert, especially for Cancer Care and believe it to be THE BEST HOSPITAL EVER! From your Greeters, Cafe workers, transport teams, housekeeping staff - every single employee at Froedtert - has been caring, friendly, compassionate, funny - I could go on and on! Being diagnosed with cancer had to be the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. The past 10 years, I believe I’m in the very best hands I could ever imagine. Dr. Ben George is a hero - MY HERO - and I Thank the Lord every day for him and Froedtert!

Latest update ruined an easy to use app

Wow - DO NOT UPDATE! What was once a necessary app has now become a necessary evil. Impossible to read ANYTHING, the type is so small. And I have the largest iPhone screen Apple makes. The app used to be incredibly easy to use and simple to navigate and see at-a-glance everything you needed. Now it’s cluttered with too many tiny little icons and even tinier type, rendering it impossible to locate anything necessary. Log-in is cumbersome. I don’t want to sign in with Facebook or Google. All they do is farm my info. I VALUE MY PRIVACY. I can’t even figure out how to get into an upcoming appointment so I can pre-register. I no longer want to use the app. Sad, because it is necessary for my health. It’s an ugly, horrible, useless tool. So much for pre-checking in. Can’t read the type it’s so small. Can’t read notes or any directions for the same reason. Also - the app can now only be logged into by tapping on a link through an email from Froedtert; it cannot be logged into via tapping on the app itself. That refuses your current log-in information and instead asks you to create a new account. I am NOT going to go through that again. Ridiculous. If you’re smart, you revert to the previous format. That was a piece of cake, and fully functional.
