Christmas Events 2023 – Where to see Santa / Father Christmas in Cardiff and South Wales

Christmas events became available to book as early as June in 2023. It seems that each year Christmas Events for the Family are being advertised earlier and earlier. So this is my earliest ever where to see Santa in Cardiff and South Wales guide. This covers seeing Father Christmas in Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, the Valleys and everywhere in between, but does not cover West or North Wales.

Cardiff Christmas Market – 9th November to 23rd December 2023

The dates announced are 9th November to 23rd December for Christmas 2023. Cardiff Christmas Market will once again bring local independent food and craft stalls to Cardiff city centre. For more informations and a list of exhibitors visit Cardiff Christmas Market .

Elsa and Anna’s Christmas Celebration at The Coal Exchange Hotel – 12th November & 17th December 2023

“Join us for an enchanting Christmas celebration with Elsa and Anna! This magical event is perfect for families looking to create unforgettable memories this holiday season. Cardiff Winter Wonderland 2023 – 16th November 2023 to 2th January 2024

Once again for 2023 Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland will be taking place in two locations, with Cardiff Castle hosting the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink and Ice Walk. It will have an undercover 40m x 15m ice rink and a 150m Ice Walk. Skate Aids will be available for younger ages and there are accessible sessions. At City Hall Lawn there will be a family funfair, including the traditional Giant Wheel. The Ice Bar will be returning, made out of ice, and Sur La Piste, the two story Ski Lodge Bar will also be back for festive drinks. There’ll be food and drink stalls around too. Santa’s Grotto at Queen Street, Cardiff – 16th November to 24th December 2023

For the 17th year Santa’s Grotto will be running at Queen Street, and is very cost effective at just £8.99 per child and two adults included! For more information visit Santa’s HQ on Facebook . There is no need to book for this event.

Christmas at Bute Park – 24th November 2023 to 1st January 2024

This is my favourite event and we visit on Christmas Eve every year. For 2023 Wales’ biggest ever festive light show will have some new features. It has been extended by half a mile, improved pathways, new audio and a newly decorated Christmas Village, new food and drink traders, more toilets and improved accessibility. The Royal Mint Christmas Experience at The Royal Mint, Llantrisant – 25th November 2023 to 24th December

Visit Santa at Cefn Mably Farm Park, Cardiff – Weekends from 25th November to 17th December & 22nd December 2023

The Christmas Speigeltent at Cardiff Bute Park – 1st December 2023 to 24th December 2024

Santa’s Grotto at ‘Believe’, St David’s Cardiff – 1st December until 24th December 2023

Breakfast with Santa at Harvester Restaurants (Various Locations) – 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 21st-24th December

Harvester is one again hosting Breakfast with Santa at its various locations, priced at £9.99 or £10.99 on the 24th December. Includes breakfast, fruit shoot, chocolate treat, activities book, goody bag and a visit from Santa. Visit Harvester for more information or to book.

Festive Film Screening (The Snowman and the Snowdog) at National Museum Cardiff – 2nd & 3rd December 2023

There will be a story from Father Christmas and then the family favourite movie “The Snowman and the Snowdog” in Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre at the National Museum Cardiff. Tickets are £6 and you could pair it with a visit to the rest of the museum, which is free. Visit Festive Film Screening for more information.

Carols in the Chapel at St Fagans National Museum of History – 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th December 2023

In the 18th century chapel there will be traditional tunes and contemporary Christmas classics for you to sing a long to. Tickets required at £6 per person, but entry into the museum is free. Visit Carols in the Chapel to book tickets.

Father Christmas and Friends at St Fagans National Museum of History – 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th December 2023

Meet Father Christmas and receive a gift as well as have a photograph taken. There will also be an interactive story session and craft opportunities. Visit Father Christmas and Friends to book. Tickets are £14 but entry into the museum is free.

Santa Dash at Cardiff Bay – Sunday 3rd December 2023

“Each year we love watching the Santa Dash, but maybe you’d like to take part? This is a 5k fun run (can be walked!) to raise money for Calon Heart Screening, raising money for an excellent cause. Anyone can take part, prams and dogs are welcome. People dress up in Christmas fancy dress, so if you’re watching it’s tons of fun, and you can still support the charity and cheer people on. There’ll be a Santa in attendance (probably lots, let’s be fair) and the Rock Choir will be singing as well. “ For more information visit Santa Dash 2023 .

Santa’s Grotto (including a Quiet Grotto) at Dobbies Garden Centre, Swansea – Various dates from 25th Nov to 24th December

This Santa’s Grotto comes with a crafting activity, a visit to Santa and a gift. You will need to sign up for the free Dobbies Club and get your membership number from your profile in order to see what dates/times are available and to book at Dobbies Santa’s Grotto . There is also a Quiet Grotto available on December 8th where all music and twinkling lights are switched off, you can choose to have the child’s gift wrapped, and you’ll get a photo of the grotto in advance so you can be prepared.

Luminate Wales at National Botanic Garden, Carmarthenshire – 29th November 2023 to 24th December 2023

Luminate Wales is running two trails, one at Margam Country Park and the second at the Garden of Wales, that’s the National Botanic Gardens in Carmarthenshire, not far from Swansea. This is about an hours drive from Cardiff city. I’ve no doubt this is going to be spectacular. Visit Garden of Wales to book tickets and for more information.

The Hi Tide Inn in Porthcawl are hosting a Christmas Fayre with over 50 stalls offering gifts, crafts and food treats. There will also be a Santa’s Grotto where kids can Meet Santa. Tower Christmas Grotto at Zip World, Hirwaun – 1st December to 24th December 2023

Head up the Zip World Tower for a complimentary mince pie and hot chocolate, or mulled wine. A meet and greet with Santa including photo opportunity is followed by a continental breakfast. Christmas Afternoon Tea with Santa Claus at Llanerch Vineyard Hotel – 18th to 22nd December

Llanerch Vineyard is an independent Welsh vineyard located just outside Cardiff. We had an amazing time here celebrating our anniversary ! This magical event includes a festive afternoon tea, party games and children’s disco, and a visit to Santa. You can buy tickets here .

Not South Wales but still an Easy Drive away and Christmas events that are worth travelling for!

Santa’s grotto at folly farm – weekends from 11th november to 23rd december 2023.

“Not only do we have the main man himself but you can also pay a visit to his reindeer on our zoo. And the Folly Farm elves are on hand to bring that extra little bit of sparkle to your grotto experience. Santa’s brought gifts for the little ones. Santa Special at Brecon Mountain Railway – Various dates from 25th November to 21st December 2023

“Come see Santa at our beautiful Heritage Railway! Travel by a Steam Train from Pant Station to Pontistcill to meet Santa in his Grotto where every Child and Baby will receive a lovely present.” This very popular trip often books up quickly so book as soon as possible at Brecon Mountain Railway .

Meet Santa at Cantref Adventure Farm, Brecon – 25-26th Nov, 2rd-3rd, 9th-10th, 16-17th, 21st-24th December 2023

In addition to all the animals and play opportunities at Cantref Adventure Farm, on select dates in November and December you can book a time slot to meet Santa. Cantref says, “Come and meet the elves and have fun in the workshop. The elves will take you to meet Santa who can’t wait to meet you. Santa will check his official Naughty and Nice list and if you have been very good, Santa will present you with his magical golden key which opens the Present Room where you can choose your own gift!” For more information visit Cantref Adventure Farm .

Winter Wonderland at Wookey Hole, Somerset – Various dates from 25th November to 24th December

Wookey Hole Caves is in Somerset near Wells, and is about a 1hour 45 minute drive from Cardiff. You can explore the extensive caves, as well as play adventure golf, visit the Enchanted Valley, Cave Diving Museum, Dinosaur Grove, soft play, and a 4D cinema. Whilst it is a bit of a drive, I’ve included it as it is a full day out as well as their Winter Wonderland.

Experience a magical Christmas train ride through the forest and meet Santa and his elves, with extra special Christmas Afternoon Tea or Christmas Picnic Box available as an additional purchase. Queen Street, Cardiff

Visit the man himself this Christmas at Cardiff’s official Santa’s Grotto. On Queen Street, outside Queen’s Arcade, you’ll find a magical log cabin with a singing Rudolph. No need to pre-book, just arrive and every child will be seen. Open daily from 10.30am until Christmas Eve, it’s £8.50 per child that includes a gift to take away. You can also have a photo taken and put into a snow globe or Christmas frame for a special festive keepsake.

Christmas shopping and Christmas markets in Wales

What do you want for Christmas? How about a relaxing day out to somewhere pretty, where you can tick things off your gift list and still have time for a mulled wine or two? Here are some of the places to find perfect presents in Wales. 

Hay-on-Wye, Mid Wales

Hay  straddles the Wales-England border, and the town was only half-joking when it declared independence from both countries in 1977. Hay-on-Wye isn't officially an ‘independent kingdom’, but when you stroll around the shops, it certainly has that feel. The shopping here is all about high-quality, free-thinking individualism – which makes it perfect for a Christmas shopping expedition. Each November you will also get the added bonus of the  Hay Festival Winter Weekend , which has a food festival and vintage fair alongside the usual literary events.

The Royal Welsh Winter Fair, Builth Wells, Mid Wales

A super festive event all in one place! Head to the the Royal Welsh Winter Fair at the agricultural showground in Builth Wells towards the end of November for a kick-start to your festive season. As well as all the usual competitions with cookery, crafts, livestock and hounds on display, there are reindeer visiting at certain times. There's a huge food hall full of local Welsh produce, craft stalls with beautiful handmade products, Santa's Grotto and a magnificent fireworks display at the end of it all.

Llandeilo , West Wales

The pretty hilltop town of  Llandeilo  in  Carmarthenshire  has become a popular day out for independent shoppers, who spend a leisurely day trawling the town’s many boutiques, jewellers, galleries and antiques shops. In summer, it’s obligatory to snaffle an ice cream from  Heavenly , but since it’s Christmas we may opt for a warming hot chocolate at one of the many cafes and pubs. The festive highlight is November's  Festival of Senses - surround yourself with live music, taste great food and drink, visit the craft and fashion stalls and get the Christmassy feels as Santa and his sleigh leads the way through town before a twinkly lantern parade.

Aberglasney, Carmarthenshire, West Wales

Aberglasney Winter Fair returns on 01 - 03 December 2023, with regional artisan food and drink, unique gifts, art, makers and designers.

Swansea, West Wales

Swansea’s  the main retail hub for South West Wales, with a great spread of big brands and local independents. You can find most of the big names in and around  The Quadrant  shopping centre and Oxford Street, while the vast Swansea indoor traditional market  is easily the biggest and best covered market in Wales. The best of the local independents are in the Independent Quarter, which encompasses the arcades and side-streets off the main drag. During the festive season, Swansea  Christmas Street Market  sets up dozens of stalls along Oxford Street to offer crafts, handmade gifts, fine foods and unique Christmas decorations.

Narberth, West Wales

Narberth  has described itself as ‘the Bond Street of Wales’. But we know what they mean. It’s a lovely little market town, and they are justifiably proud of having Pembrokeshire’s best selection of independent shops. It’s notably strong on food, art, footwear and clothing, and there’s usually a Christmas market  in the Queens Hall during November to get the festive season off to a flying start. 

Saundersfoot Coastal Christmas, West Wales

Running for the whole of December and into the New Year, Saundersfoot's harbour area is turning into an enchanting Christmas shopper's delight. Local craftspeople, including jewellers, leather goods makers and boutique clothing designers will take up residence in specially built cabins. In the village, there are also lots of independent shops to explore. Try out the traditional festive food and drinks on offer as you explore this beautiful village on the Pembrokeshire coast. Cardiff, South Wales

Cardiff is one of the top shopping cities in Britain. Pretty much every prestigious retail brand is packed into the compact, pedestrianised city centre. The mighty  St David’s  shopping centre is a major destination for well-known names and labels, including flagship stores like John Lewis and Apple as its cornerstones. In the warren of Victorian and Edwardian arcades , you’ll unlock the city’s strong independent streak, with dozens of home-grown boutiques, cafes and delis.

Christmas brings a big seasonal  street market  to The Hayes area, just outside the traditional  Victorian indoor market  that’s still going strong after more than 100 years. If ‘quirky’ is on your shopping list, the sprawling antiques and curios emporium of  Jacobs Antiques  is unbeatable.

Caerphilly Borough Council, South Wales

There's a series of Winter Food & Craft Markets in four of the borough’s town centres this Christmas, each taking place on a different Saurday. As well as food and drink and Christmas gifts, there will be family entertainment. They start with Ystrad Mynach Winter Food & Craft Fair on 18 November 2023, followed by  Blackwood Winter Food & Craft Fair takes place on 25 November 2023. Then there's Caerphilly Winter Food & Craft Fair on 02 December 2023 and  Bargoed Winter Food & Craft Fair takes place on 09 December 2023. 

Cowbridge  has always been at the prosperous heart of the Vale of Glamorgan and where Cardiff’s business moguls pilot their Range Rovers at the end of the working day. Accordingly, there’s an upper-echelon feel to Cowbridge’s many shops, galleries and bars, which are mostly strung along a single high street that runs the whole length of the town.

Women’s clothing is where Cowbridge really excels (around 18 boutiques the last time we counted) but it’s also great for gifts, jewellery and art. Regular Vale Makers Markets are held throughout the year, and you should be able to get some lovely gifts made by local craftspeople at the Christmas market on 3 December.

Llandudno Christmas Extravaganza takes place from 16 - 19 November, with food and drink, gifts plus entertainment including a funfair.

Conwy, North Wales

Here’s a Christmas quiz question: how many chain stores are there in Conwy? Answer: only three. All the other shops – a whopping 92.5 per cent - are proudly run by local traders. It’s an astonishing feat, which places Conwy in Britain’s top five places for independent shops. It’s also the key to why Conwy is such a great place to do your Christmas shopping.

For instance, there’s the multi-award-winning  Edwards Butchers , the  Yesteryears  toy emporium,  Vinomondo  for fine wine… and if you want a suit of armour (you never know!), look no further than  The Knight Shop . And all these treasures are wrapped neatly within the town walls of a beautifully preserved medieval town. To see it all at its festive best, head there for the  Conwy Winterfest .

A whopping 92.5 per cent of shops in Conwy are proudly run by local traders. It’s an astonishing feat, which places Conwy in Britain’s top five places for independent shops."

Many families might be feeling the pinch ahead of Christmas 2022 as the cost of living continues to rise. This means the cost of Christmas activities, like meeting Santa, might need to be carefully considered to find the best deal.

Santa's Tea Party at Celtic Manor, Newport

The luxury hotel Celtic Manor, near Newport, is hosting a Santa's Tea Party on selected dates in November and December. Prices range from £28 to £40 for adults and £18 to £33 for children, depending on which date you go.

Included in the package is festive afternoon tea, individual meeting and picture with Santa, festive activity packs and a gift from Santa. You can find out more here.

Tea with Santa at Fonmon Castle, Vale of Glamorgan

Giving customers access to Festive Lights, Santa Shows, Mrs Claus, The Magician, the owls and all the festive elves you can enjoy tea with Santa at Fonmon Castle. Customers will also have a private meet and greet with Santa and tea with Santa.

Tickets range from £30 to £40 for adults, £20 to £30 for children and £10 for children aged under three. You can book your ticket here.

Family Festive Lunch at Maes Manor, Blackwood

Mae's Manor in Blackwood is hosting a family festive lunch on Wednesday, December 7 and Wednesday, December 8. Guests will be eating a freshly cooked festive roast with all the trimmings in the ballroom.

There will also be party games, and a children's disco and each child will then be invited to meet with the man himself Santa, by his lovely warm log fire. Tickets cost £27.95 for adults and £13.95 for children and you can call 01495220011 to book.

The Ffestiniog Railway

There are two ways to meet Santa at Ffestiniog Railway in north Wales, the first is at the Welsh Highland Railway where Santa Specials will be run between Caernarfon Station to Rhyd Ddu. You will board the train at Caernarfon Station, collect your Christmas hamper, and then enjoy the treats on your train journey which will take you through the stunning Snowdonia National Park.

Santa and his elves will be aboard the train saying hello and handing out gifts during the service which runs on selected dates from Sunday, December 4, to Friday, December 23. Tickets start at £23.50 for adults and children and £4.50 for babies and you can book tickets online, here.

The second way to meet Santa is from Porthmadog Harbour Station, where you will find Santa in his Christmas Carriage Grotto. Santa will be in his grotto on selected dates from Saturday, December 10, to Friday, December 19, and Wednesday, December 23, and tickets start at £4.50.

Santa Specials at Gwili Railway

Meeting Santa is a highlight for many children at Christmas and meeting him on a steam train is even more magical. This steam ride at Gwili Railway in Carmarthenshire includes a meet with Santa, present, drink and snack for children, and mince pie and sherry for adults.

Running every weekend in December tickets start at £9.95 for children aged two and under and £22.50 for children aged three and over and for adults. You can book your tickets here.

Enchanted Forest at GreenWood Family Park

In north Wales, in Y Felinheli you will be able to enjoy wandering through the illuminated forest and meet Santa in his cosy cottage. Tickets cost £18 for adults, £22 for children and £6 for babies aged under 12 months. You can book here.

The Brecon Mountain Railway

This Santa special has been running for 33 years and starts at Pant Station in Merthyr Tydfil where you board a steam train and travel to Santa's grotto in Pontsticill. Here children will receive a present from Santa and adults will be served mulled wine and mince pies - a definite win-win!

The Santa Special train will be running on selected dates from Saturday, November 26, to Thursday, December 15. Tickets are £20.75 per adult, £17.75 per child, and babies under two are free. You can book your tickets to meet Santa here.

Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway

Travelling through mid-Wales and meeting Santa is possible thanks to the Santa Specials at Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway. Boarding the train at Llanfair Caereinion you can stay warm and cosy in the heated carriages and you will then meet Santa during the 50-minute train journey.

Every child will receive a gingerbread man and a juice carton, while adults can enjoy a hot mince pie and a non-alcoholic hot seasonal drink. Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway has not increased its prices since 2021, meaning adult and child tickets are £19.50 and infants under one go free.

This train ride will be running on the first three weekends of December and Monday, December 19. You have to book beforehand, which you can do here.

Tea with Santa at The Plough, Llandeilo

The Plough is a country hotel near Llandeilo and they have invited Santa over for tea, where children and adults get a meal, whilst children also get to meet Santa and have a present. Tickets cost £19 for children, aged under 12, and £14 for adults. You can book here.

Breakfast with Santa at Future Inns, Cardiff

You can enjoy breakfast with Santa at Future Inns in Cardiff Bay. There will be a Welsh brunch, meet and greet with Santa in his grotto and Christmas stories and games.

Tickets cost £19 per person, £9.50 for those under 12 and children aged two and under go free. You can book your tickets here.

At the Llechwedd ZipWorld site is Zipmas where you can visit Santa in his Christmas Grotto which is 500ft underground. The experience comes with a mince pie, hot chocolate and slate bauble decorating. You can book your tickets here. Prices are from £18 - if you want to add on a golf game you'll pay £30.

Rheilfford Gwili Railway

Starting and returning from Bronwydd Arms station, near Carmarthen, you can enjoy a steam train ride alongside Santa. Children under 11 will receive a present from Santa and everyone can pose for a photo with Santa while the train journey lasts around one hour and a half.

You can hop on board the Santa Special train on selected dates from Saturday, December 3, to Christmas Eve. Tickets start are £17 for adults and £4 for children and you book your tickets here.

Brunch with Santa at Llandegfedd Lake

Arriving on his own personal speedboat, you can enjoy brunch with Santa at Llandegfedd Lake, near Newport. After a brunch, children will be invited to the café balcony to witness Santa’s speedy arrival. He will then join them in the café to chat with the children individually and give them all a gift.

Tickets cost £16.95 for children and £12.95 for adults and the brunch is running every weekend from Saturday, December 3 to Sunday, December 18. You can book your tickets here.

Rhyl Miniature Railway

Rhyl Miniature Railway has been running for more than 100 years and this Christmas you can meet Santa on this sweet smaller railway on their Santa Specials. The Santa Specials are running on selected dates from Saturday, December 3, until Christmas Eve.

Tickets are £12 for adults and £4 for children and you can book your tickets here.

Gower Fresh Christmas Trees

At Gower Fresh Christmas Trees there are loads of different scenes to see inside and families are welcome to take as many photos as they want. There is a sleigh you can sit in with your family for a lovely seasonal photograph.

Tickets for Winter Wonderland and Santa's Grotto cost £7.65 for adults and £16.75 for children. A family ticket (2 adults + 2 children) costs £44.95. You can book your tickets here.

The Royal Mint Christmas Experience, Llantrisant

The Royal Mint is hosting its own Christmas experience. At The Royal Mint Christmas Experience, visitors will take a tour of the festive coin factory and all children will meet Santa and have the opportunity to have their photo taken, before leaving with a special gift to take home.

Running from Saturday, November 26 to Saturday, December 24 tickets cost £10 for adults and £15 for children. You can book here.

Christmas experience at Forage Farm, Vale of Glamorgan

Forage Farm will be running its Christmas experience on selected dates in December. There will be a Christmas show with a cheeky Christmas elf and the chance to meet Father Christmas.

Santa Experience at Principality Stadium

Santa is coming to the Principality Stadium and for the first time in the stadium’s history, Santa will be taking over the Wales team home changing room for December. After two years the Santa Experience is back at the Principality Stadium and will be running from Friday, December 2 to Christmas Eve.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £12 for those under 16s, which includes a free gift from Santa. Or family tickets are available for £40 for two adults and two children. You can book here.

Mumbles Pier

You can visit Santa himself at Mumbles Pier when the Christmas Grotto has been opened since Saturday, November 19. There are loads of festive events on for the family at Mumbles Pier this year.

You can have breakfast or a tea party with Santa and his elves, make gingerbread houses with Mrs Claus, visit Santa's workshop and enjoy a festive afternoon tea with the family.

Some events in December have already sold out so book in advance to avoid missing out on these festive events on the pier. A visit to Santa's Grotto costs £12.99 for children and £4 for adults. You can add a festive afternoon tea for £5.95 per child and £12.99 per adult. Book your tickets here.

Santa's Toy Mine at Rhondda Heritage Park

Santa and his amazing Toy Mine are returning to A Welsh Coal Mining Experience at Rhondda Heritage Park for 2022. As well as a magical tour filled with Christmas surprises, the event will also include themed activities such as writing a letter to Santa, which will take place in small log huts scattered throughout the site.

Noah’s Ark Charity’s award-winning Santa’s Grotto at IKEA Cardiff is back! No need to book, just come along and enjoy the magic and meet Santa in his cosy log cabin.

Running from Saturday, November 26 to Friday, December 23, your £10 entry fee will go directly to making sure that children at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales receive the best possible care this Christmas.

Bodafon Farm, Llandudno

Believe Christmas grotto, Cardiff

Believe, the enchanted Christmas experience is returning to St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff for 2022. The Christmas grotto launched at St David’s Cardiff for the first time in 2021 and, due to popular demand, is set to make a return this year.

Believe will open daily from Friday, November 25, right up until Christmas Eve and invites guests into a mystical cavern to meet McJingles, one of Santa’s most trusted elves, along with Norbert, his magical reindeer friend. After hearing Norbert’s story, the children will take part in a festive craft activity decorating their own bag of magical reindeer food to take home with them.

Families will then be invited into Santa’s grotto where little ones will meet Santa before receiving a gift, as well as having the opportunity to capture the memorable moment on camera. Tickets for Believe will go on sale at 10am on Friday, September 9.

Tickets cost £6 for children and £13 for adults and you can book your tickets on the St David's shopping centre website.

Visit Santa once again this Christmas in his cosy log cabin located on Queen Street, Cardiff City Centre and there is no need to pre-book. This is a great value-for-money Santa experience at only £8.50 per child - this includes a gift and up to two free accompanying adults.

We’re big fans of Christmas events in general and even before the kids came along we loved to visit Christmas markets in Europe and Christmas isn’t Christmas without a visit to a Santas Grotto.

When the kids were 7 and 8 we thought it was the perfect time to take them to Lapland to visit Father Christmas – the ultimate Santa’s Grotto – to ensure their belief in the magic of Christmas remained for a little while longer.

Finding the perfect Santa’s Grotto in the UK in 2023 is a little harder having just had that amazing experience, but there are some great 2023 Santa visits to choose from.

The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences – Located in Mayfair , this is a 5 star luxury aparthotel with a difference. We find it so useful when staying in hotels in with kids to have a kitchen. They also have a kids’ concierge service where they arrange your kid’s favourite DVDs and treats for the room. Guest can use all of the hotel facilities and they have a pool.

The Ritz – Located on Piccadilly near Hyde Park Corner . One of the most well-known hotels in London. The Ritz being the Ritz, they have a Very Important Kids programme providing anything a child could want in their hotel room. Children under 15 stay for free with their parents in a Junior Suite or above.

The Rubens at the Palace – Located near Buckingham Palace . This boutique hotel has their own Director of Fun and Adventure to organise activities for kids. Children under 12 stay and eat for free and there’s a 6pm check out on Sundays.

St Ermin’s – Located near St James’s Park . They offer a kids concierge to take care of the kids needs with fun and games inside of the hotel as well as outside. They even have their own bee hotel within the hotel. There are 2 new rooms that cater for families of 6. They also do a fabulous afternoon tea for kids .

Park Plaza County Hall – Located   near the London Eye , this is an excellent, centrally located mid-range family hotel in London. If booking the Family Getaway Package, they offer goody bags for kids at check-in and ‘Park Plaza money’ to spend in the Spectrum Bar and complimentary breakfast for children up to 12 years old. There are also interconnecting rooms for larger families.

Premier Inn Waterloo – Located by Westminster Bridge near the London Eye. Family hotels in London can be eye-wateringly expensive but the Premier Inn is a great, no-frills budget family hotel in London option if you are looking for a central location.

Great! We’ve also got loads of Christmas markets that are getting bigger each year in some beautiful historic locations. The UK is really lovely at Christmas.

Hi, is this information still accurate in view of the latest Covid restrictions? Are these still happening?

Hi, most of them are still running. I am trying to update as and when I hear of changes. Each link takes you to the website for the grotto / experience and they will also update. In terms of government guidelines and restrictions as to who can visit based on Tiers, that is something that each individual must determine themselves.

Is there anything in Scotland?

There are a few Dobbies garden centres around Scotland and it looks like they’re still running – although suject to local restrictions. A lot of places were already cancelled and didn’t make it on here.
