Wine Tours and the Little Things

Sometimes you don't know what you need inside your soul. That is, until you're yelling out lyrics to Robyn's Show Me Love circa 1997 while wine-drunk, and on your way to a pool overlooking a vineyard.

But that's the beautiful thing about summer—it's full of surprises.

My dear friend and wine expert Lisa Marie moved to the Okanagan recently after 11 years in Fernie. So we followed her. Four girls on a plane, four days in wine country, a pool, and Lisa to guide us through our sweetest wine dreams.

Jody, Anna, Chan, Jesse, and Lisa. Riesling, Chardonnay, Malbec, Rosé, Pinot Gris. Wine tours just got glorious.

After arriving at the Kelowna airport, we're informed of our first wine tour in 20 minutes.

“Liquid lunch, ladies,” Lisa says. When we arrive at Kitsch Wines, a beautiful mansion overlooking the shimmery Okanagan Lake, liquid lunch seems just fine.

Winemaker Grant introduces us to the tasting room, an open-doored garage with vineyard views. Six different wines, five glasses, and us. We talk about the grape-growing process and not long after, leave with our first of many full cases of wine. Chan, owner of Freyja Lifestyle Fashion in downtown Fernie (and my personal fashion go-to guru) proudly carries the case back to the car.

We have lunch, though it escapes me where, and then visit The Hatch. A handsome man with white-blonde hair pours us a sampling of whites and suddenly we're critics, giggling about the smell, texture, and taste with each swirl of the glass.

“This one's clean. It's just a really clean wine,” Chan says. “Punchy. Clean.”

We erupt in hysterics, the wine's gone to our heads. Laughter feels good, a deep-bellied good, an I-needed-this-desperately good. We leave with another case of wine and drive to Indigenous World Wines.

After admiring the bunches of lavender outside, we sip and savour, leaving with another case. I quickly learn it's difficult to visit a winery without buying a bottle or two, or three. As we drive along the west shore of Okanagan Lake, Robyn's Show Me Love throws us all back to the 90s, and my soul does a little dance.

Following a beer at Cannery Brewing Co. and a plate full of chicken and artichoke heart nachos, we end up poolside on the Naramata Bench, our first day of wine touring done.

In the morning, after a walk in the sun, we explore the Summerland area. First, Dirty Laundry Vineyards. Winemaker Mason leads us through a wine cellar where we compare Malbecs, then we sit for pizza on the patio. Like Italy; pizza and wine beneath green vines overlooking enchanted wine country.

“To Lisa!” we cheers, our glasses full of chilled Sauv Blanc (you can try this at Wapiti Music Festival this year—hooray!).

After lunch, we break from wine at Nomad Cider and pick fresh raspberries. Then we do a tasting beneath a stormy sky with TH Wines, large raindrops haphazardly falling around us. Then we shop for dinner and snacks; steaks, kale, potatoes, cheese buns, onion rings, and chicken burgers.

A low point, perhaps, though it all depends on how you look at it. After all, a girl needs her snacks.

That evening after dinner we gather beneath the awning by the pool and watch the Okanagan sun fall way to the night.

On our third day, we find ourselves at the Red Rooster Winery's sensory room, where mason jars filled with different dried fruits and other influences of wine align the shelves. An energetic man named Berk leads us through several different wines—we swirl, smell, pair with canapés.

Aged cheddar smothered in honey and coffee grinds with Pinot Gris; cream cheese and strawberry foam on a graham cracker crumb with Rosé; potato, capers, tomato, and lemon juice and dill with Chardonnay.

“Remember, ladies, wine-food-wine,” says Berk. Indeed.

We tackle four more wineries before the day's end and spend the rest of the afternoon poolside. As I bob up and down on my blow-up doughnut in the pool, I think about the little things; a great pair of sandals, a pink flamingo, a bug swimming in someone's wine, a photograph.

I realize then, the little things aren't so little. And wine tours aren't just about wine.

All of our tours are available to adults 19 years and over. Please bring a photo ID for the tour.

A complimentary light lunch is included on our full-day wine tour (weather permitting). Typically, your lunch will include a selection of local meats and cheeses served at an award-winning winery.

Please bring photo ID, comfortable clothing for the day, a camera (if you wish), and all the enthusiasm you can muster!

With an ever-changing panorama, the valley stretches over 250 kilometres, across sub-regions, each with distinct soil and climate conditions suited to growing a range of varietals from sun-ripened reds to lively fresh and often crisp whites.

Located in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, the Kootenay region is home to pristine rivers, lakes, waterfalls, beaches, mineral hot springs, alpine meadows and snow-capped mountains.

Wines have been produced here since 1997, predominately of cool climate varieties, which is understandable as it is one of the most northerly grapegrowing regions in North America.

Nestled amongst the natural beauty of the North and South Thompson Rivers in and around Kamloops, the rain shadow of the high coastal mountains, the semi-arid conditions and diverse microclimates provide many creative options for our winemakers to shine.

The Similkameen Valley

The Similkameen Valley is a pristine stretch of vineyards, set amongst the dramatic backdrop of rugged and awe-inspiring mountains. Considered the “organic capital of Canada”, the area is known for small farms and producers dedicated to creating quality produce, delectable foods, and award-winning wines.

• Fraser Valley

Encompassing Vancouver, Surrey, Richmond, New Westminster to Delta, Langley, Aldergrove and Abbotsford in the east, the Fraser Valley wine region is dedicated to producing high quality, handcrafted wines with diverse varieties and styles: from unique fruit wines to delicious sparkling wines to fresh, fruit-forward table wines to fortified.

One of the oldest towns in the province, Lillooet is located at the southern tip of the Cariboo Chilcotin region of British Columbia. The climate is very similar to the traditional grapegrowing regions in the Okanagan Valley with long, hot, dry summers. However, nights are cooler, making average summer temperatures slightly lower than the Okanagan, but at the same time preserving the fresh crisp acidity in the wines.

• Gulf Islands

A vibrant community of wine producing islands – Salt Spring, Pender, Saturna, Quadra, Gabriola, Hornby, Denman – offer a glimpse into an easygoing lifestyle that allows time to savour the quiet moments with a fitting variety of unpretentious wines.

On Vancouver Island, grape winemaking really began after a provincial government-funded trial – the Duncan Project – identified Pinot Gris, Auxerrois and Ortega as promising varieties for this unique seaside environment.

space, equipment, and the service of doing the procedures for you

including filtering your wine.

Come on in! We have an excellent selection of distinctive quality

RJS Craft Winemaking

 kits to choose from. We can help you choose a

wine that you will enjoy and assist you getting it started.

You leave it in our care for 4-8 weeks depending on the kit you

Bottling takes half to one hour and is your opportunity to dress and

personalize your wine with labels and shrink caps. Even more fun

when you bottle with a friend!

Your wine is ready to drink at bottling and will continue to improve

over time. Aging time varies from 2-6 months, depending on the kit

you choose. It will evolve and become more complex and flavourful.

Our full day wine tours run from 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM (6 hours).  Half day wine tours run from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM (4 hours).  Our sunset wine tours run from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM (5 hours)

Please note, guests with pick up locations outside of our normal pickup range or for those guests departing out of Kelowna on our southern tours including the Naramata Bench, Oliver and Osoyoos will have customized itineraries.  Please expect pick up to be earlier than indicated above.  Our reservations team will reach out to confirm your customized pick up time.

Great question!  If you’re ready for a fun, relaxing and informative day on our Kelowna wine tour and Okanagan wine country, we’ve got you covered.  Your wine tour guide will pick you up directly from your accommodation in a new, air-conditioned touring vehicle and tour your through some of the most gorgeous wineries in the Okanagan Valley.

Our full day wine tours include tastings / visits to 5 wineries with an un-rushed lunch reservation at a winery bistro midway through the day.  For guests with limited time, we also offer half day tours that depart in the morning and afternoon and offer tastings / visits to 4 wineries.

All winery tastings are curated by our reservations team with dedicated appointments and VIP access.  Our guests will never wait in line!

Your tour includes full concierge service from your guide including taking as many photos as you’d like, carrying all wine purchases, organizing wine purchases, securing reservations at local restaurants or entertainment venues and even shipping out your wine purchases if you’d rather not take them home with you.  Our guides are also well versed in local Kelowna and Okanagan knowledge, pointing out areas of interest and making recommendations that can help make your stay more enjoyable.

Yes! We love hosting single traveler’s and our Kelowna wine tour reservations team will be happy to help.  Online reservations are not available for single traveler’s, since we require a minimum of two people to make a reservation through our booking platform.   Please call or text us at 250-878-6701 and we can usually find a seat on a tour for you to join!

Please note, most single traveler’s that wish to join our wine tours are located in the downtown Kelowna core area.  If you are located elsewhere, you may be asked to meet us at a more convenient location or at the first winery on the tour.

Ready for a delightful experience in Kelowna? We offer the perfect wine tour experience and book all tasting and lunch appointments. This is how wine tours work: our guide will pick you up from your accommodation in an immaculate vehicle and take you to the best wineries around the Okanagan Valley. During your tour, you'll enjoy beautiful tastings of various BC wines, explore each winery, snap some fantastic pictures, shop - and even more! Our friendly guide is also on hand to help take photos, carry bottles, recommend restaurants and entertainment spots - and anything else you might need before returning safely to your vacation home.

Wine tours offer an excellent way to taste wines while touring beautiful Okanagan vineyards. Our tours typically depart at 11 AM and last 5-6 hours. Express Wine Tours are 3 hours and leave at 11 AM (10:30 AM during summer) and 3 PM. Departure times are listed on each tour page.

A wine tour is perfect for a fantastic experience with excellent value and fun. Our wine tours are available all year round, giving guests unique opportunities to experience exclusive tastings and tours. Even during the cooler months, you can get up close and personal with the winemakers, explore behind-the-scenes experiences, and enjoy an intimate understanding of what wine tours in Kelowna have to offer.

Wine tours are ideal for bachelorette parties . We are Wicked, after all! Upgrade your wine tour to our Bachelorette Bliss package ! From upgraded tastings to private transportation, we have everything you need to make your Kelowna bachelorette one that your group will never forget.

Pick-up at Sparkling Hill Resort Vernon is available for an additional $150. Pick-up at Sparkling Hill Resort is not available for Express Wine Tours.

Winery and facility tasting fees are included in tour rates. The number and variety of wines offered at wineries are subject to change and are at their discretion. Most wineries provide 4-5 samples at each stop.

Wine tours exclude the cost of lunch. Wicked Wine Tours handles the restaurant reservations, and guests pay the restaurant directly. Dining requests are welcome but not guaranteed. Wicked Wine Tours is not responsible for communicating food allergies or dietary restrictions, and guests should inform the restaurant upon arrival. Most Okanagan restaurants offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

A 20% deposit is required at the time of booking. Your Tour Guide will collect the balance of the payment after the tour. We accept cash and credit cards, including American Express, MasterCard, and Visa. Gratuities are NOT included - suggested gratuity: 15-25%. For groups of eight or more, private tours, and prepaid invoices, an 18% gratuity will be added. Split payments are available for small groups. For large groups, please organize payment in advance and present your Tour Guide with one payment method.

Plans sometimes change. We get it; it happens to us too. So we're happy to provide a hassle-free, 100% refund if you give us 48 hours' notice (24 hours' for shuttles). Within 48 hours, we've already started preparing for your tour, and we can't easily fill your slot, so we can't provide you with a refund in that case, and there is a 100% charge for the entire invoice. Very rarely, we're the ones that have to cancel. We'll try really, really hard not to, but if we do, we'll ask if you prefer to reschedule or have us refund you. Should government restrictions prevent tours from operating, reservations can be rescheduled or are 100% refundable. Private tours require seven days' notice for a 100% refund.

Wicked Wine Tours is proud to maintain a modern and immaculately maintained fleet. Our fleet includes late-model Ford Transit vans and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. With us, no bus!

Tours are available to book online all year for groups of any number. We can accommodate custom tours for group sizes up to 50: please get in touch with us for more assistance and a personalized quote. 

We are pleased to offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off at most Kelowna locations, including hotels, Airbnb, B&Bs, and residences. We aim to provide guests a safe and convenient service while ensuring adequate time is spent tasting and not riding in a vehicle!

We understand that our region offers various accommodation options outside our pick-up zone. Guests staying outside these areas may be eligible for pick-up for an additional $10-20 per person, depending on group size and requested location. These locations include:

Wine tours are fun for non-drinkers, too! We have special tour rates for adult guests who choose not to participate in wine tasting, and riders receive tasty, locally-made Motherlove Kombucha.

The consumption of alcohol in motor vehicles in British Columbia is against the law. We encourage you to have fun, but please be aware of local laws; safety is paramount.

We take great pride in maintaining an impeccable fleet. Outside food or beverages are not permitted. Complimentary bottled water is provided.

Tours are designed for guests of legal consumption age, and many appreciate the opportunity for an adult environment. Children under 19 are not permitted on public tours but may be allowed on private tours. Rotary Centre for the Arts offers summer art camps.

We love animals, too! For allergy and cleanliness reasons, pets are prohibited, no matter how well-trained or adorable.

Tours operate rain or shine. Wine tastings are usually inside tasting rooms, cellars, or under covered patios, and we offer complimentary umbrellas. Rainy days are an excellent time for wine tours: you're not missing a day on the beach or the golf course! Please dress accordingly.

Tour schedules are based on winery and restaurant availability and cannot be adjusted for public wine tours. However, private wine tours are available for custom itineraries and requests.

Reservations are available for single guests on most tours. Public tours require a minimum of two guests to operate. If the tour capacity is unmet, we will contact you to schedule an available tour or refund your deposit. Pick-up requests are not guaranteed for single guests. You may be asked to meet at a central location for pick-up/drop-off. If pick-up at your requested location is unavailable, we will contact you 24 hours before your tour to schedule an alternate location.
